corporate earnings prompted a pivot back to growth stocks.
\n
A pull-back in economically sensitive cyclicals kept the S&P 500’s and the blue-chip Dow’s gains muted, while small-caps underperformed their larger rivals.
\n
But megacap tech and tech-adjacent stocks, such as Microsoft Corp, Amazon.com, Apple Inc, Facebook Inc and Alphabet Inc, rose ahead of their quarterly results next week, putting the Nasdaq out front.
\n
All three major U.S. stock indexes ended the session within 1% of their record closing highs.
\n
Growth stocks, which outperformed throughout the health crisis, were back in favor, gaining 0.8%, while the value index slipped by 0.5%.
\n
“The market is flip-flopping between the view that economic growth has almost peaked so you need to buy stocks that manufacture their own growth like tech names, versus the view that economic growth will continue and you want to own cyclicals and value names,” said David Carter, chief investment officer at Lenox Wealth Advisors in New York.
\n
The number of U.S. workers filing first-time applications for unemployment benefits spiked unexpectedly to 419,000 last week, a two-month high, according to the Labor Department.
\n
Market participants are closely watching labor market indicators for hints as to when the Federal Reserve, expected to The stock opened at $64.50, and currently trades in the high $80s -- which gives it a market capitalization of nearly $50 billion. For Roblox to become a $1 trillion company by 2030, the stock would need to rise about 20 times.
\n
No pure-play video game company has crossed the $1 trillion mark yet. Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts, two of the world's largest video game publishers, are currently worth about $70 billion and $40 billion, respectively. Unity, which indirectly competes against Roblox in the game engine and development space, is worth roughly $30 billion.
\n
If we compare these four companies' price-to-sales ratios, we'll notice the market is paying a much higher premium for game creation engines like Roblox and Unity than traditional video game publishers.
\n
\n <colgroup></colgroup>\n
\n
\n

Company

\n

P/S Ratio (Current FY)

\n

P/S Ratio (Next FY)

\n
\n
\n

Roblox (NYSE:RBLX)

\n

20

\n

16

\n
\n
\n

Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI)

\n

8

\n

7

\n
\n
\n

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA)

\n

6

\n

5

\n
\n
\n

Unity (NYSE:U)

\n

30

\n

23

\n
\n
\n
\n
Source: Yahoo Finance, July 7. FY = fiscal year.
\n
But is Roblox a fad or a new content platform?
\n
However, there are some key differences between Roblox and Unity.
\n
Roblox is a platform that enables younger users, many of whom don't have any coding experience, to build simple block-based games and share them with other players. Unity is an advanced game development engine that powers over half of the world's mobile, PC, and console games.
\n
Roblox encourages users to monetize their games with an in-app currency called Robux within its walled garden. Unity offers developers more flexible tools for integrating in-app ads, in-app purchases, and other features into their games.
\n
The bulls claim Roblox's self-sustaining cycle of content creation, self-promotion, and monetization will fuel its long-term growth. The bears will point out that half of the platform's daily active users (DAUs) are under the age of 13, and they might eventually grow out of Roblox's simple experiences or graduate to a more advanced game development engine like Unity.
\n
The bulls will point to Roblox's growth rates. Between the first quarters of 2018 and 2021, Roblox's DAUs more than quadrupled from 10.3 million to 42.1 million, its total hours engaged surged from 2.1 billion to 9.7 billion, and its average bookings per DAU jumped from $11.62 to $15.48.
\n
Roblox's revenue rose 56% in 2019, soared 82% in 2020, and analysts expect 167% growth this year. But next year, they expect its revenue to rise just 26% after the pandemic ends and more students return to school.
\n
The bears will point out Roblox isn't profitable, and it probably can't achieve profitability without reducing its exchange rate between U.S. dollars and Robux for developers. However, doing so could alienate its developers and throttle the platform's output of new content.
\n
Why Roblox probably can't hit $1 trillion by 2030
\n
Even if Roblox maintains a premium price-to-sales ratio of 20 through 2030, it would need to generate $50 billion in annual sales to hit the $1 trillion mark. Roblox generated just $933 million in revenues in 2020, so it would need to generate a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 50% to hit $50 billion by 2030.
\n
If Roblox's valuations cool off, as they'll likely do over the years, it will need to generate an ever higher CAGR to become a $1 trillion company. By comparison, Amazon grew its revenues at a CAGR of 27.4% over the past decade -- and it currently trades at just four times this year's sales. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely Roblox will become a $1 trillion company within the next decade.
\n
But that doesn't mean Roblox won't generate multibagger gains over the next decade. It could remain popular long after the pandemic passes, attract a new generation of younger users, and launch more powerful tools for advanced users. Apple and Amazon crossed that milestone in 2018, Microsoft followed suit in 2019, and Facebook joined the club earlier this year.\nMany other tech stocks could join that elite group within the next decade -- and investors who hop on board today could reap massive multibagger gains. Could one of those stocks be Roblox, the gaming company which gained millions of new users during the pandemic?\nImage source: Roblox.\nHow much is Roblox worth today?\nRoblox went public via a direct listing this March with a reference price of $45. The stock opened at $64.50, and currently trades in the high $80s -- which gives it a market capitalization of nearly $50 billion. For Roblox to become a $1 trillion company by 2030, the stock would need to rise about 20 times.\nNo pure-play video game company has crossed the $1 trillion mark yet. Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts, two of the world's largest video game publishers, are currently worth about $70 billion and $40 billion, respectively. Unity, which indirectly competes against Roblox in the game engine and development space, is worth roughly $30 billion.\nIf we compare these four companies' price-to-sales ratios, we'll notice the market is paying a much higher premium for game creation engines like Roblox and Unity than traditional video game publishers.\n\n\n\n\nCompany\nP/S Ratio (Current FY)\nP/S Ratio (Next FY)\n\n\nRoblox (NYSE:RBLX)\n20\n16\n\n\nActivision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI)\n8\n7\n\n\nElectronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA)\n6\n5\n\n\nUnity (NYSE:U)\n30\n23\n\n\n\nSource: Yahoo Finance, July 7. FY = fiscal year.\nBut is Roblox a fad or a new content platform?\nHowever, there are some key differences between Roblox and Unity.\nRoblox is a platform that enables younger users, many of whom don't have any coding experience, to build simple block-based games and share them with other players. Unity is an advanced game development engine that powers over half of the world's mobile, PC, and console games.\nRoblox encourages users to monetize their games with an in-app currency called Robux within its walled garden. Unity offers developers more flexible tools for integrating in-app ads, in-app purchases, and other features into their games.\nThe bulls claim Roblox's self-sustaining cycle of content creation, self-promotion, and monetization will fuel its long-term growth. The bears will point out that half of the platform's daily active users (DAUs) are under the age of 13, and they might eventually grow out of Roblox's simple experiences or graduate to a more advanced game development engine like Unity.\nThe bulls will point to Roblox's growth rates. Between the first quarters of 2018 and 2021, Roblox's DAUs more than quadrupled from 10.3 million to 42.1 million, its total hours engaged surged from 2.1 billion to 9.7 billion, and its average bookings per DAU jumped from $11.62 to $15.48.\nRoblox's revenue rose 56% in 2019, soared 82% in 2020, and analysts expect 167% growth this year. But next year, they expect its revenue to rise just 26% after the pandemic ends and more students return to school.\nThe bears will point out Roblox isn't profitable, and it probably can't achieve profitability without reducing its exchange rate between U.S. dollars and Robux for developers. However, doing so could alienate its developers and throttle the platform's output of new content.\nWhy Roblox probably can't hit $1 trillion by 2030\nEven if Roblox maintains a premium price-to-sales ratio of 20 through 2030, it would need to generate $50 billion in annual sales to hit the $1 trillion mark. Roblox generated just $933 million in revenues in 2020, so it would need to generate a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 50% to hit $50 billion by 2030.\nIf Roblox's valuations cool off, as they'll likely do over the years, it will need to generate an ever higher CAGR to become a $1 trillion company. By comparison, Amazon grew its revenues at a CAGR of 27.4% over the past decade -- and it currently trades at just four times this year's sales. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely Roblox will become a $1 trillion company within the next decade.\nBut that doesn't mean Roblox won't generate multibagger gains over the next decade. It could remain popular long after the pandemic passes, attract a new generation of younger users, and launch more powerful tools for advanced users. As it continues to expand, economies of scale should kick in and strengthen its earnings growth. Therefore, Roblox could still have plenty of room to run -- just don't expect it to join the 12-zero club anytime soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":62,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":897462189,"gmtCreate":1628962617441,"gmtModify":1676529900480,"author":{"id":"3572656728096523","authorId":"3572656728096523","name":"babyshark","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572656728096523","authorIdStr":"3572656728096523"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a than a year, but history shows that stock prices don't move up in a straight line. Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.
\n
If you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.
\n
\n
1. Activision Blizzard
\n
Activision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.
\n
The Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.
\n
Making big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.
\n
It pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.
\n
Activision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.
\n
2. Electronic Arts
\n
Electronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.
\n
Most importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.
\n
EA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.
\n
In fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.
\n
3. Tencent
\n
Tencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.
\n
Gaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.
\n
Over the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.
\n
Tencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.
\n
\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"
\n
However, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. Market corrections are par for the course when investing in stocks, but that same history shows these downturns lay the foundation for great returns afterward.\nIf you've been thinking about buying shares of a video game stock, the next market pullback would be a great buying opportunity. Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA), and Tencent (OTC:TCEHY) are cash-rich leaders in the burgeoning video game industry that can deliver market-beating returns over the long term. Let's find out a bit more about these three stocks.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Activision Blizzard\nActivision Blizzard owns eight franchises that have achieved at least $1 billion in lifetime bookings. It's best known for making one of the most-played first-person shooters on the market in Call of Duty. A $1,000 investment in Activision stock in 2003, right after the first Call of Duty title was released, would be worth nearly $30,000 today.\nThe Call of Duty franchise continues to grow. It's included in the company's Activision segment, which reached a record 150 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the first quarter. With seven other major franchises under its umbrella, Activision Blizzard sees an opportunity to improve those titles to more than double its MAUs to 1 billion.\nMaking big-budget video game titles does require investing in thousands of employees and can involve significant marketing expenses, but many other aspects of production are not as capital intensive when compared to other industries. This allows top game companies that can sell millions of copies of new releases to produce robust amounts of free cash flow. Over the past four quarters, Activision Blizzard generated $2.8 billion in free cash flow on $8.5 billion in revenue.\nIt pays out less than a fifth of that free cash flow in dividends, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.52%. There's clearly potential for Activision to safely double or triple that yield by increasing the payout ratio over time.\nActivision Blizzard owns several franchises that each have a built-in base of millions of fans, including World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The company is well stocked with cash, with $9.3 billion on the balance sheet, which should provide plenty of capital to continue reinvesting for growth.\n2. Electronic Arts\nElectronic Arts is known for its EA Sports titles, most notably Madden and FIFA. EA added 42 million new players to its network during the pandemic. It has a total of 230 million players and viewers, but management is targeting 500 million over the next five years.\nMost importantly, EA has demonstrated the ability to bring out new hits. The free-to-play shooter Apex Legends launched in 2019 and recently surpassed $1 billion in bookings. EA also revealed plans earlier this year to relaunch its previous NCAA Football franchise under the new title EA Sports College Football, which should be released within the next few years.\nEA's success in growing its sports business in recent years has left it with lots of cash to reinvest. It entered fiscal 2022 with $6.3 billion of cash and investments and has already put that to work. So far this year, EA has spent a combined $4.7 billion to buy Glu Mobile, Codemasters, and Playdemic. These studios bring their own game development prowess and popular titles to accelerate EA's expansion into mobile.\nIn fiscal 2021, EA's free cash flow came to $1.8 billion on $5.6 billion of revenue. EA started paying a dividend within the last year, which signals management's confidence in its growth strategy. The quarterly dividend amounts to $0.17 per share, bringing the current dividend yield to 0.48%. The company's growing sports lineup and willingness to return capital to shareholders makes it a top video game stock to consider buying.\n3. Tencent\nTencent is the largest video game company in the world by revenue and also operates the popular WeChat social media platform in China. It owns Riot Games, the operator of one of the top esports titles in the world in League of Legends. It also has ownership stakes in several other companies, including Epic Games and Activision Blizzard.\nGaming makes up 29% of its annual revenue, with online advertising, fintech, and business services composing most of the balance. But gaming is Tencent's largest business segment. It's the diversity of revenue streams across fast-growing markets, including gaming and cloud services, that make it a stock worth keeping on your radar.\nOver the last four quarters, Tencent generated $18.5 billion in free cash flow. It has $39 billion of dry powder on the balance sheet, in addition to a portfolio of investees that was worth over $200 billion in the first quarter. That's a lot of firepower.\nTencent compares the current state of the video game industry to the movie business in the 1930s, and it's investing to maintain its leadership status. Last year, management announced a deep pipeline of 40 new titles, including internally developed and licensed games in development. It's particularly focusing on where gamers are spending more time, which is with big-budget, immersive gaming experiences.\n\"The development speed, scale, range, and depth of information technology is much greater than the last Industrial Revolution,\" said Senior Vice President Steven Ma. \"This brings unimaginable opportunities for games and the space is almost limitless.\"\nHowever, investors should note the risks of investing in Chinese companies. Tencent has come under scrutiny by regulators that have cracked down on \"inappropriate\" content in the company's games, but Tencent has been able to navigate through these obstacles and deliver market-beating returns to investors. The stock price has fallen recently, which can be chalked up to regulatory issues and near-term investments in the business that will pressure profitability this year. But I would look at the recent drop in share price as a buying opportunity.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":58,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":153540110,"gmtCreate":1625038319330,"gmtModify":1703850661100,"author":{"id":"3572656728096523","authorId":"3572656728096523","name":"babyshark","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572656728096523","authorIdStr":"3572656728096523"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Go AMD!","listText":"Go AMD!","text":"Go AMD!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/153540110","repostId":"1140918239","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1140918239","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625036743,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1140918239?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-30 15:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Can AMD Go on a Rally Like Nvidia and Hit All-Time Highs?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1140918239","media":"TheStreet","summary":"AMD is breaking out to multi-month highs and clearing range resistance. An increasing need for EVcharging technologyis set to benefit a raft of global stocks, according to the bank, including semiconductor and Big Oil companies, as well as auto suppliers.\nBank of America analysts led by Harry Wyburd flagged a rapid rise in ownership of electric vehicles, with EVs on Europe’s roads up 100% since pre-Covid.\nIn a research note published last week, they wrote: “Our updated charger forecasts see c. [circa] $80bn of potential charging infrastructure investment by 2040E [estimate].”\nThe bank estimates there are currently around nine public charging points per 100 electric vehicles in Europe and expects the number to rise as more of the cars hit the road. BofA also expects “significant” growth in home charging points, with around 60 million electric connectors by 2030.\nBofA’s stock picks include:\nSemiconductors\n“We estimate that power semiconductor demand related to charger deployments in Europe can increase from low tens of millions of US dollars per annum to c$50m per annum by 2025 and c$100m per annum by 2030,” the analysts stated, pickingInfineonandSTMicroas beneficiaries of this.\nOil majors\nBig Oil can create “significant value” from “shifting their equity story to Big Energy,” with more of a focus on decarbonization, according to BofA. Its analysts noted the shift was becoming more urgent for these companies, given shareholder pressure and the Hague District Court’sdemands for Shellto meet climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement.\nThe analysts pickedBP,ShellandTotaland said: “We believe EV charging will grow in importance in linking Big Oil’s existing Marketing footprints (including global brand recognition and backing from their commodity trading desks) with Big Oils’ expansion into electricity supply.”\nAuto suppliers\nValeomakes parts for EVs of all sizes as well as a range of charging components for the likes ofVWand Mercedes. It is buy-rated by BofA, which noted that its joint venture withSiemensnow has around a 40% market share of the high voltage charging sector.\nMetals and mining\nCopper producerAntofagastaand minerBolidenare buy-rated picks for BofA, with copper likely to be a key part of EV chargers as well as inside the vehicle. “New technologies such as renewables, energy storage and electric vehicles that are gaining traction have one thing in common: they require a set of commodities we define as MIFTs, or metals important for future technologies,” BofA’s analysts wrote.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":54,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
