But around the consensus price target of $150 per share, estimates vary widely: from $83 at the bearish end to $175 at the bullish end of the spectrum.
\n
What might justify Apple stock rising nearly 40% to reach the most optimistic of price targets? On the flip side, what are the key risks to Apple stock tanking about 30% towards the bottom of the well? These are questions that the Apple Maven will explore today.
\n
iPhone super cycle
\n
The Wall Street bulls in question are two: Wedbush’s Dan Ives and Evercore ISI’s Amit Daryanani. Although both see the same upside to investing in Apple shares today, the analysts approach the bullish case from different angles.
\n
Wedbushplacesthe iPhone at the center of the investment thesis. The analyst believes fervently in the 5G super cycle, arguing that just about 40% of Apple’s smartphone installed base is currently overdue for an upgrade. Greater China,a struggling geographic segmentfor the past five years, represents a sizable rebounding opportunity.
\n
The research shop offers numbers to support the argument. Dan Ives sees Apple shipping as many as 250 million iPhone units in the current year, which is roughly 15% more than consensus. Holding all other variables constant, including average prices and margins, I estimate that 2021 iPhone sales at these levels could account for up to one-fourth of the stock price upside.
\n
Wedbush looks beyond the current year, andsees in the upcoming iPhone 13an important follow up to the “5G party”. Demand for the new device should be boosted by product features, including a 1 terabyte storage model, and the buildout of 5G networks across the globe.
\n
Apple Car, services and wearables opportunities
\n
Wedbush’s Dan Ives shares at least one thing in common with Evercore ISI’s Amit Daryanani: a belief that the long-awaited Apple Car could be a catalyst for further stock price appreciation.
\n
Dan offers some figures to explain his bullishness. According to him, the EV (electric vehicle) market could reach $5 trillion over the next decade. Should Apple announce a production partner by the summer, as Wedbush believes will be the case, the Cupertino company could begin to capitalize on the opportunity soon.
\n
Amit, on the other hand, dives deeper into another couple of high-growth businesses for Apple: services and wearables. The analyst sees“a clear path to $100 billion in services revenue by fiscal 2025 and $70 billion for wearables. The growth should help drive margin expansion and help smooth out the cyclical nature of the hardware business”.
\n
Should these two segments expand as Evercore ISI believes they will, both combined would more than double in size in five years, with margin expansion potential. It is not a stretch to see Apple stock rising 40% in 12 months if the rest of the market begins to see these growth opportunities the same way.
\n
This ship is going down!
\n
Despite plenty of Wall Street love, Apple stock also has its bears. None is more pessimistic about investing in the Cupertino company’s shares than Goldman Sachs’ Rod Hall, whobelieves that the stock has over 30% downside risk.
\n
At the core of the analyst’s bearish thesis is the services segment. Rod argues that a post-pandemic world could be highly disruptive to service revenues, as consumers choose offscreen entertainment after nearly 18 months of being confined at home.
\n
Still within services, Goldman believes that Apple TV+ could see users flock as the one-year free trial period ends, in July 2021. This would be a blow to a company that is still trying to become a more relevant player in the ultra-competitive streaming video space.
\n
Lastly, the analyst believes that the iPhone 12 resembles a “redesign cycle” rather than a more meaningful “5G super cycle”. As a result, iPhone replacement rates should be low in 2021, and average selling prices could drop as well.
\n
Twitter speaks
\n
Not long ago, I asked users on Twitter if they wereconcerned about the downside risk in Apple stock. Now, I turn the question around: what key driver could send shares towards the $175 bullish price target? Below are the answers.
\n

","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock At $175 or $83? But ARK Innovation ishaving a rough 2021: After rising another 26% by mid-February, the $22 billion ETF has tumbled over the past six weeks, and is now down 9% year to date. Investors need to understand the dramatic portfolio changes that have occurred in the past year to see what they own and determine the fund’s role in their portfolios.

For starters: A year ago, ARK Innovation was a small-company fund. Today, it’s solidly mid-cap, with 51% of its assets in large-company stocks. The average market cap of its holdings has increased from $5 billion last March to $39 billion by the end of February. That, in large part, is due to how much many holdings have run up. Notably, top holdingTesla(TSLA) has returned 500% in the past year even after the recent pullback.

Many active funds have limitations on the size of companies they can buy and continue to own. ARK Innovation doesn’t have such constraints. It’s open to stocks up and down the capitalization spectrum—from the $594 billion Tesla to the $1 billionCerus(CERS). “We don’t really look at market caps. We are pretty agnostic to that,” says Ren Leggi, ARK’s client portfolio manager. “We’re looking at where innovation takes us.”

The growth of its existing holdings only partially explains the fund’s tilt toward larger stocks. Over the past few months, ARK Innovation has also been selling shares in smaller-cap firms, many in biotech, includingOrganovo Holdings(ONVO),Seres Therapeutics(MCRB), Compugen(CGEN), andEditas Medicine(EDIT).

Meanwhile, the fund has added a significant amount of large-cap internet stocks likePayPal Holdings(PYPL), Shopify(SHOP),Zoom Video Communications(ZM); and foreign firms such as Tencent Holdings(TCEHY), Baidu(BIDU),Sea(SE), and Nintendo(NTDOY). The ETF owned none of those names last July.

The recent trading has shifted ARK Innovation’s sector composition as well. In March 2020, biotech and diagnostics were the largest industries in the fund, making up 22% and 15% of the portfolio, respectively. By the end of February, biotech only made up 14%, and diagnostics, 8%.

Meanwhile, ARK Innovation has increased assets in internet and software stocks—from 6% of each in March 2020, to 15% and 9% as of February. Shopify, which wasn’t in ARK Innovation as of last October, is now the eighth-largest stock in the fund with a 3.1% weight.

Still, compared to its peers in the mid-cap growth category, ARK Innovation is relatively heavy on healthcare and light on technology, says Amy Arnott, portfolio strategist at Morningstar.

Some suspect the shift toward bigger companies is the result of ARK Innovation’s unprecedented growth. The fund attracted $16 billion in new assets in the past year. If that money was invested in smaller companies, it couldquickly bump up ARK’s stakein them to perilous levels. From that perspective, putting that money in more liquid large-cap stocks seems a safer option. “The bigger they get, the more difficult it is for them to establish meaningful positions in smaller-cap stocks,” Arnott says.

ARK denies that recent trading decisions have anything to do with capacity, saying those moves are driven by conviction, valuation, and tactical considerations. For example, ARK Innovation exited DNA sequencing firmIllumina(ILMN)—once its second-largest holding behind Tesla—and added rivalPacific Biosciences of California(PACB), because it sees a shift of disruption from short-read to long-read genomic sequencing, says Leggi. It sold other names because they’d become too expensive compared to peers.

The firm has also been preparing for a market correction since last year, says Leggi, and large-cap additions were meant to offer downside protection and cash-like reserves to buy high-conviction names at low prices during a downturn.

A shift in portfolio characteristics—from small-cap to mid-cap, more healthcare to more internet—means ARK Innovation will likely have less volatility down the road. Many biotechs lack cash flow or revenue until they get a product approved, while internet companies usually have some products or services on the market.

This could mean ARK’s performance this year will look a lot more like 2019 than 2020. “It’s still a very aggressive growth fund,” says Arnott, “But it can be more difficult for a fund to sustain its performance edge as it gains assets.”

Leggi says larger companies don’t necessarily mean less growth: ARK just released its updatedprice target for Tesla at $3,000 by 2025, 385% higher than today’s price. In fact, in certain industries where earlier and larger disruptors have already established themselves, it would be hard for small rivals to compete, says Leggi.

“There have been a number of smaller EV [electric vehicle] manufacturers going public through SPACs,” he says, referring to special purpose acquisition companies, essentially shell companies used to bring private companies public. “We don’t invest in them, because we don’t think they’re well-positioned to be the new leader because of how capital-intensive it is. Tesla is far ahead. It’s unlikely to see as much small-cap exposure in our portfolios as you had a few years back.”
","source":"lsy1610680873436","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
ARK Innovation Fund Has Reshuffled Its Holdings. Skyworks is witnessingtremendous growthin its mobile business, while Micron is about to join the party as well. These factors have contributed to a strong start on the market this year. These chipmakers are unlikely to lose their impressive stock market momentum in the coming months, as 5G smartphone sales are expected to switch into a higher gear in 2021.Gartnerforecasts that global 5G smartphone shipments could jump to nearly 539 million units this year and account for 35% of the overall market. This would be a huge jump over last year's 5G smartphone shipments of 213 million units, and pave the way for stronger growth in Skyworks and Micron's mobile businesses in 2021.

1. Skyworks Solutions' mobile business is on a roll

Skyworks' mobile business is its biggest source of revenue, accounting for 78% of its top line last quarter. Skyworks' mobile revenue shot up 81% year-over-year in the first quarter of fiscal 2021, which ended on Jan. 1, 2021, to $1.18 billion.Apple(NASDAQ: AAPL)-- Skyworks' largest customer, generating 56% of total revenue --hit goldwith its latest flagship devices, and that sent the chipmaker's mobile business soaring.

The Apple catalyst is here to stay for Skyworks for the remainder of the year, for a couple of reasons. First, Apple is expected to remain atop 5G smartphone supplierin 2021 thanks to a large base of users in an upgrade window. Apple's well-priced iPhone 12 lineup and the possibility ofan entry-level devicesupporting the latest wireless standard could help the smartphone giant record strong shipment gains in 2021.

Second, Skyworks is a key Apple supplier. It reportedly supplies as many as eight radio-frequency (RF) modules for the iPhone 12, so Skyworks could see a nice spike in volumes and gain more revenue per iPhone, especially as 5G chips are more expensive than their 4G predecessors.

Throw in the fact that Skyworks has started ramping up shipments of its 5G chips to other smartphone OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as Vivo, Oppo,Samsung, andXiaomi, and it becomes easier to see why its mobile business could continue clocking high growth rates. And Skyworks' non-mobile business (better known as the broad markets portfolio) is also benefiting from the 5G rollout.

The company's broad markets revenue shot up 35% year-over-year during the quarter as demand for its connectivity solutions supporting 5G infrastructure remained strong. Skyworks recently pointed out that it has shipped more than a million of its 5G small-cell power amplifiers, which help telecom carriers boost network speed.

The company also says that the 5G small-cell market still has a lot of room to grow. It could be worth $8.3 billion by 2027, clocking a compound annual growth rate of 43% in the coming years.

Thanks to such impressive catalysts, it isn't surprising to see that Skyworks' top and bottom lines are expected to take off this fiscal year. And it isn't too late for investors to jump onto this bandwagon, as thistop 5G stocktrades at an attractive 21 times forward earnings.

2. Micron Technology's mobile business is about to step on the gas

Micron Technology's mobile business unit delivered $1.5 billion in revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2021, which ended on Dec. 3, 2020. The segment's revenue increased 3% year-over-year, accounting for nearly 26% of total revenue. Though Micron's mobile growth wasn't as spectacular as Skyworks', management pointed out that mobile \"demand remains strong as 5G momentum increases and the mobile market recovers from the impact of the pandemic.\"

Mobile accounts for 40% of the overall DRAM market, according to a third-party estimate, and manufacturers such as Micron are reportedly allocating more capacity toward the production of mobile DRAM to meet the recent surge in demand. In fact, demand seems to be so strong that mobile DRAM orders placed in the fourth quarter of 2020 are expected to be fulfilled only in the current quarter.

This tight supply of DRAM should ideally result in improved pricing. Industry data supports that: The spot price of the 8 GB DDR4 DRAM jumped to $3.93 earlier in February, a sharp jump over the spot price of $2.54 seen in August 2020.

More importantly, mobile DRAM demand should remain strong, as 5G smartphones are beingequipped with more memorythan their 4G predecessors. This bodes well for Micron, as it reportedly controls 20% of the mobile DRAM market. What's more, the company is trying to grab even more of this space withspecialized 5G memory chipsthat help reduce space and power consumption while delivering faster performance.

So a mix of higher pricing and improved shipment volumes will be a tailwind for Micron's mobile business this year. More importantly, the mobile DRAM market presents a long-term growth opportunity for Micron given its solid market share in this space. The global mobile DRAM market's revenue is expected to jump from an estimated $19.5 billion last year to $35.6 billion in 2027, according to a third-party estimate.

Thrownother catalystssuch as data centers, consoles, and personal computers into the mix, and it isn't too difficult to see why Micron's earnings are expected to grow at a fast clip over the next couple of years.MU EPS Estimates for Next Fiscal Yeardata byYCharts

That's why investors looking to buy a diversified company to take advantage of the growing adoption of 5G smartphones might want to consider Micron Technology, as it has multiple businesses driving its growth. IDC estimates that smartphone shipments jumped 4.3% year-over-year last quarter to 385.9 million units, paving the way for a strong recovery in 2021 after a 5.9% decline in shipments last year.Skyworks Solutions(NASDAQ: $(SWKS)$)andMicron Technology(NASDAQ: $(MU)$)are two stocks that are already taking advantage of this turnaround, as they manufacture chips that go into 5G (fifth-generation) smartphones. This would be a huge jump over last year's 5G smartphone shipments of 213 million units, and pave the way for stronger growth in Skyworks and Micron's mobile businesses in 2021.1. Skyworks Solutions' mobile business is on a rollSkyworks' mobile business is its biggest source of revenue, accounting for 78% of its top line last quarter. Apple's well-priced iPhone 12 lineup and the possibility ofan entry-level devicesupporting the latest wireless standard could help the smartphone giant record strong shipment gains in 2021.Second, Skyworks is a key Apple supplier. It reportedly supplies as many as eight radio-frequency (RF) modules for the iPhone 12, so Skyworks could see a nice spike in volumes and gain more revenue per iPhone, especially as 5G chips are more expensive than their 4G predecessors.Throw in the fact that Skyworks has started ramping up shipments of its 5G chips to other smartphone OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as Vivo, Oppo,Samsung, andXiaomi, and it becomes easier to see why its mobile business could continue clocking high growth rates. And it isn't too late for investors to jump onto this bandwagon, as thistop 5G stocktrades at an attractive 21 times forward earnings.2. trillionCovidstimulus plan and the outlook for the American economy.\nAmong those who met with Biden and Treasury SecretaryJanet YellenwereJPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon,Walmart’s Doug McMillon,Gap’s Sonia Syngal,Lowe’sMarvin Ellison and Tom Donohue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.\nThe discussion began with a 15-minute speech from Biden, who stressed the need to combat virus and help economy at same time, a meeting attendee told CNBC’s Kayla Tausche.\nThe president also hammered home his focus on jobs and his commitment to work on a bipartisan basis, signaling he wasn’t just going to push a stimulus plan through that wasn’t supported.\nEach CEO had a chance to speak.\nGap’s Syngal said that since retail is 60% to 70% women, 60% to 70% minority, she sees up close those proportionally being hurt most. Walmart’s McMillon talked about how wage growth is good for America, and how Walmart is working on that.\nLowe’s CEO Ellison also spoke about the importance of jobs with JPMorgan chief Dimon talked about good policy that brings about healthy economic growth.\nBiden, shortly before the meeting, said that the group would talk about “the state of the economy, our recovery package. We’re going to talk a little bit — God willing — about infrastructure down the road and also about the minimum wage.”\nStill, the star-studded cast of American industry is likely to press the White House on its plans for making more Covid-19 vaccines available for workers, the size, scope and importance of another round of stimulus checks, and how a $15 minimum wage would impact payrolls.\nYellen, a former chair of the Federal Reserve, has stressed the importance of acting quickly to flush the U.S. economy with more fiscal support even after the $900 billion bill Congress passed in December. Without it, the labor market recovery could take years instead of a complete rebound by next year, she said over the weekend.\nThough the U.S. economy rebounded sharply in summer 2020, that progress has plateaued if not partially reversed this winter as the hospitality, travel and food service industries continue to struggle under the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.\nTheJanuary 2021 jobs report, published Friday, showed that employers added only 49,000 jobs last month. The drop in the unemployment rate, which fell to 6.3% from 6.7%, came as more people gave up on their job searches.\nIt’s statistics like those which have hastened efforts by congressional Democrats to pass Biden’s American Rescue Plan using a budget tool known as reconciliation that would allow the party to muscle the big-ticket plan through Capitol Hill without support from the GOP.\nThough the Biden administration for weeks voiced optimism that his plan could pass on a bipartisan basis with the 60 votes required without reconciliation, Republican pushback over the size of the bill appears to have ended prospects for an agreeable solution.\n“The president – his first priority is getting relief to the American people,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday. “Again, I don’t think the American people are particularly worried about how the direct relief gets into their hands. If [reconciliation] is the process it moves forward through, which seems likely at this point, the president would certainly support that.”\nWhile the sit-down in the Oval Office provides a chance for the CEOs to learn more about the administration’s goals, it also grants the White House a chance to receive feedback directly from some of the nation’s top executives, who may favor some parts of Biden’s bill and dislike others.\nJosh Bolten, president and CEO of the influential Business Roundtable, told CNBC last weekthat business leaders generally do not support conservative efforts to “whittle down” the size of the Biden plan.\n“What our members are saying is they are supporting what the Biden administration is saying about the urgency of providing the rescue that’s needed. First get the pandemic under control and second, support the most vulnerable through tough economic times,” Bolten said Wednesday. “We are for whittling up on those elements of it.”\nBut Bolten stressed that the BRT — whose members include Dimon, McMillon and Syngal — isconcerned about some components of the original planthat could reduce the odds of seeing legislation passed, including the boost to the minimum wage.\nThree days after Bolten’s comments, Biden told CBS that it isunlikely the $15 federal minimum wage will “survive”into the next Covid-19 relief package, but pledged to pursue the campaign promise at a later date.\nMore recently, senior House Democrats on Monday evening proposed sending the $1,400 stimulus payments to individual Americans with up to $75,000 in annual income. That move rejected an earlier appeal to tailor the benefits to those with lower earnings, which conservative Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia supported.\nBiden on Tuesday said that he supported the full benefit cutoff point at $75,000 in annual income for individual filers.\nSen. Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont, told CNN over the weekend thathe supports a “strong cliff” for paymentsso that checks are not allocated to high-income households, but cautioned against cutting out too many families.\n“But to say to a worker in Vermont or California or any place else, that if you’re making, you know, $52,000 a year, you are too rich to get this help, the full benefit, I think that that’s absurd,” he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":383259511,"gmtCreate":1612882224133,"gmtModify":1704875398022,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$Nice","listText":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$Nice","text":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$Nice","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7219603875d401940e1b759b901f43af","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/383259511","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":519,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":389619699,"gmtCreate":1612763287211,"gmtModify":1704873895962,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/389619699","repostId":"2109725367","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2109725367","pubTimestamp":1612753595,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2109725367?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-08 11:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Disney earnings preview: Can Disney+ maintain its torrid pace to sustain the Magic Kingdom?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2109725367","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Propelled by its streaming service, the Magic Kingdom should post respectable fiscal first-quarter r","content":"
Propelled by its streaming service, the Magic Kingdom should post respectable fiscal first-quarter results on Thursday
\n
Walt Disney Co. has managed to adroitly navigate the pandemic despite being hamstrung by shuttered amusement parks and an indefinite pause in live-action productions.
\n
Propelled by its streaming service, the Magic KingdomDIS,+0.52%should post respectable fiscal first-quarter results on Thursday.
\n
Still, how does Disney fend off the likes of Apple Inc.’s Apple TV+, Netflix Inc.,Comcast Corp.’s Peacock, Amazon.com Inc.’s Prime Video, AT&T Inc.’s HBO Max, and others while Disney operates at less than full strength?
\n
It offered plenty of answers in Decemberduring a marathon investor day briefing. Speculators are also getting in on the action, increasing bets in the options market that oil will reach the vaunted level by December 2022.
\n

\n
The views are ultra bullish, but they highlight increased confidence in the oil market after Brent rallied more than 200% after hitting an 18-year low during the pandemic. Demand has bounced back in key Asian markets, while OPEC+ is withholding barrels and a lack of investment is keeping shale supplies at bay. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. this week lifted its third-quarter forecast by $10 to $75 a barrel.
\n
Option bets on oil prices rising above $100 for the December 2022 Brent contract have jumped in recent days, with open interest on the calls rising from 500 to 3,950 in the past week.
\n
The $100 mark occupies a special place in the mind of many traders, as oil hovered around that level for several years in the early part of last decade as strong demand from emerging markets enticed drillers into ever more expensive locales, from deep ocean beds to Canada’s remote tar sands.
\n
That era ended in 2014, when U.S. shale firms proved they could pump massive amounts at far lower costs. But while the vaunted price level has been out of the market’s reach since then, it hasn’t been out of traders’ minds. Speculators are also getting in on the action, increasing bets in the options market that oil will reach the vaunted level by December 2022.\n\nThe views are ultra bullish, but they highlight increased confidence in the oil market after Brent rallied more than 200% after hitting an 18-year low during the pandemic. Demand has bounced back in key Asian markets, while OPEC+ is withholding barrels and a lack of investment is keeping shale supplies at bay. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. this week lifted its third-quarter forecast by $10 to $75 a barrel.\nOption bets on oil prices rising above $100 for the December 2022 Brent contract have jumped in recent days, with open interest on the calls rising from 500 to 3,950 in the past week.\nThe $100 mark occupies a special place in the mind of many traders, as oil hovered around that level for several years in the early part of last decade as strong demand from emerging markets enticed drillers into ever more expensive locales, from deep ocean beds to Canada’s remote tar sands.\nThat era ended in 2014, when U.S. shale firms proved they could pump massive amounts at far lower costs. But while the vaunted price level has been out of the market’s reach since then, it hasn’t been out of traders’ minds. It was just a little more than two years ago that major trading houses made $100 projections that ended up falling far short.\nForecasts for $100 are far from the current consensus. The median analyst forecast compiled by Bloomberg has Brent staying below $65 a barrel through 2025. And there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of such a resurgence. It fell 23% to $173 in pre-market U.S. trade.
\n
Spot silver prices fell more than 4% to $27.66 an ounce to sit some 8% beneath the eight-year high made on Monday, when retail traders bought coins and piled into silver funds to set prices spiking.
\n
Analysts said the silver pullback may show the limits of small investors’ impact in a large market, while posts on the popular Reddit forum WallStreetBets expressed concern that silver buying could cost traders their grip on some stocks.
\n
The social media-driven trading frenzy “could be slowly ending”, said OANDA market analyst Edward Moya. “Like all good rollercoaster rides, they all come to an end.”
\n
Retail buyers’ darling GameStop Corp dropped 30.8% on Monday, though it remains about 1,000% higher than a couple of weeks ago, before an organised band of small buyers piled in and forced a “squeeze” which required big funds to close short positions by buying shares at very high prices.
\n
Other shares caught up in a frenzy that has battered short-sellers extended their advance, including BlackBerry Ltd.
\n
Online broker Robinhood, on whose platform much of the buying and selling has taken place, also raised another $2.4 billion from shareholders just days after investors pumped in $1 billion.
\n
“It certainly feels like there’s some evidence of peak retail stall, but hard to gauge since they’re still sitting on decent profits,” said Mirabaud’s London-based equity sales trader Mark Taylor.
\n
“With volumes in all the hot stocks collapsing, silver attack met by margin, Robinhood having to seek fresh collateral at a rampant speed, the signals that the retail mania could unravel rapidly are aligning.”
\n
Small traders’ involvement in financial markets has grown sharply over the past year as lockdowns, volatility and stimulus cheques have combined to drive an investment surge that has turbocharged a huge rally in global equities since last March.
\n
Day-trading mania has boosted the price of assets ranging from cryptocurrencies to new stock market listings. In London a sign of still-strong demand came from online greeting-card retailer Moonpig, which leapt 25% on debut on Tuesday.
\n
The showdown between short-selling hedge funds and the small-time day traders also has also drawn scrutiny from financial regulators, lawmakers and the White House, concerned about possible market manipulation.
\n
Robinhood continued to roll back trading curbs on Monday, raising trading limits on GameStop to 20 shares from four.
\n
Weak prices in pre-market trade may serve as a guide to where the phenomenon is headed next, although broader markets appeared to be moving on from jitters the frenzied buying had triggered and equities in Asia rose broadly on stimulus hopes. [MKTS/GLOB]
\n
The number of shorted GameStop shares has fallen by more than half in a week, analytics firm S3 Partners said on Monday, although the videogame retailer remained the sixth-biggest short by value.
\n
“Short-squeeze mania has calmed a bit for this week,” said Chris Brankin, chief executive of broker TD Ameritrade in Singapore.
\n
QUICKSILVER
\n
Silver’s slumping spot price on Tuesday came even as dealers reported brisk trade in Asia, albeit below Monday’s massive volumes, suggesting a further squeeze higher might be unlikely.
\n
A lot of people who were anticipating a GameStop-like rally in silver “now realize there is not as much buying pressure pushing it up” as some had thought, said Michael Matousek, head trader at U.S. Global Investors.
\n
An additional drag on prices was an overnight margin hike by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which makes speculative trade using derivatives products more expensive.
\n
“Silver is much more liquid compared to stocks, and there are costs to holding the metal,” said Benjamin Yeo, head of dealing at Phillip Futures in Singapore, where on Monday silver futures volumes had been surging.
\n
“In the short term, we can expect more volatility from the retail buying interest, but do not think it is sustainable.”
\n
The unit price of Australia’s ETF Securities’ Physical Silver fund fell 1% in Sydney after drawing a record A$76 million ($58 million) in inflows on Monday. Small silver miners, which had leapt, also retraced some of their gains.
\n
“It is slowing down a bit,” said Gregor Gregersen, founder of Silver Bullion, a dealer in Singapore, after a wild 24 hours where he said sales exceeded average monthly levels from 2018 and orders above S$35,000 ($26,300) arrived every three minutes.
\n
Reddit moderators had on Tuesday removed one of the most popular posts suggesting buying silver and many WallStreetBets posts focused on riding out the volatility.
\n
“WHO IS HOLDING GME WITH ME?” read one top post. “I’M HOLDING EVEN IF MY PORTFOLIO GOES DOWN TO ZERO,” read another.
\n
($1 = 0.8280 euros)
\n
($1 = 1.3108 Australian dollars)
","source":"lsy1601381805984","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It fell 23% to $173 in pre-market U.S. trade.\nSpot silver prices fell more than 4% to $27.66 an ounce to sit some 8% beneath the eight-year high made on Monday, when retail traders bought coins and piled into silver funds to set prices spiking.\nAnalysts said the silver pullback may show the limits of small investors’ impact in a large market, while posts on the popular Reddit forum WallStreetBets expressed concern that silver buying could cost traders their grip on some stocks.\nThe social media-driven trading frenzy “could be slowly ending”, said OANDA market analyst Edward Moya. “Like all good rollercoaster rides, they all come to an end.”\nRetail buyers’ darling GameStop Corp dropped 30.8% on Monday, though it remains about 1,000% higher than a couple of weeks ago, before an organised band of small buyers piled in and forced a “squeeze” which required big funds to close short positions by buying shares at very high prices.\nOther shares caught up in a frenzy that has battered short-sellers extended their advance, including BlackBerry Ltd.\nOnline broker Robinhood, on whose platform much of the buying and selling has taken place, also raised another $2.4 billion from shareholders just days after investors pumped in $1 billion.\n“It certainly feels like there’s some evidence of peak retail stall, but hard to gauge since they’re still sitting on decent profits,” said Mirabaud’s London-based equity sales trader Mark Taylor.\n“With volumes in all the hot stocks collapsing, silver attack met by margin, Robinhood having to seek fresh collateral at a rampant speed, the signals that the retail mania could unravel rapidly are aligning.”\nSmall traders’ involvement in financial markets has grown sharply over the past year as lockdowns, volatility and stimulus cheques have combined to drive an investment surge that has turbocharged a huge rally in global equities since last March.\nDay-trading mania has boosted the price of assets ranging from cryptocurrencies to new stock market listings. In London a sign of still-strong demand came from online greeting-card retailer Moonpig, which leapt 25% on debut on Tuesday.\nThe showdown between short-selling hedge funds and the small-time day traders also has also drawn scrutiny from financial regulators, lawmakers and the White House, concerned about possible market manipulation.\nRobinhood continued to roll back trading curbs on Monday, raising trading limits on GameStop to 20 shares from four.\nWeak prices in pre-market trade may serve as a guide to where the phenomenon is headed next, although broader markets appeared to be moving on from jitters the frenzied buying had triggered and equities in Asia rose broadly on stimulus hopes. [MKTS/GLOB]\nThe number of shorted GameStop shares has fallen by more than half in a week, analytics firm S3 Partners said on Monday, although the videogame retailer remained the sixth-biggest short by value.\n“Short-squeeze mania has calmed a bit for this week,” said Chris Brankin, chief executive of broker TD Ameritrade in Singapore.\nQUICKSILVER\nSilver’s slumping spot price on Tuesday came even as dealers reported brisk trade in Asia, albeit below Monday’s massive volumes, suggesting a further squeeze higher might be unlikely.\nA lot of people who were anticipating a GameStop-like rally in silver “now realize there is not as much buying pressure pushing it up” as some had thought, said Michael Matousek, head trader at U.S. Global Investors.\nAn additional drag on prices was an overnight margin hike by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which makes speculative trade using derivatives products more expensive.\n“Silver is much more liquid compared to stocks, and there are costs to holding the metal,” said Benjamin Yeo, head of dealing at Phillip Futures in Singapore, where on Monday silver futures volumes had been surging.\n“In the short term, we can expect more volatility from the retail buying interest, but do not think it is sustainable.”\nThe unit price of Australia’s ETF Securities’ Physical Silver fund fell 1% in Sydney after drawing a record A$76 million ($58 million) in inflows on Monday. Small silver miners, which had leapt, also retraced some of their gains.\n“It is slowing down a bit,” said Gregor Gregersen, founder of Silver Bullion, a dealer in Singapore, after a wild 24 hours where he said sales exceeded average monthly levels from 2018 and orders above S$35,000 ($26,300) arrived every three minutes.\nReddit moderators had on Tuesday removed one of the most popular posts suggesting buying silver and many WallStreetBets posts focused on riding out the volatility.\n“WHO IS HOLDING GME WITH ME?” read one top post. “I’M HOLDING EVEN IF MY PORTFOLIO GOES DOWN TO ZERO,” read another.\n($1 = 0.8280 euros)\n($1 = 1.3108 Australian dollars)","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":316560176,"gmtCreate":1611937613895,"gmtModify":1704866369454,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$??","listText":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$??","text":"$BioRestorative Therapies, Inc.(BRTX)$??","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/93db14596a43f561e98b429a173be049","width":"1284","height":"2223"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/316560176","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":316,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":316622245,"gmtCreate":1611931512087,"gmtModify":1704866138601,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Kidu pwoli mess","listText":"Kidu pwoli mess","text":"Kidu pwoli mess","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/077dd996ce7ee24a44fe7dc1be7644d5","width":"1125","height":"2121"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/316622245","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":110,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":319372681,"gmtCreate":1611543595843,"gmtModify":1704860578180,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes looking positive ","listText":"Yes looking positive ","text":"Yes looking positive","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/319372681","repostId":"2106419376","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":29,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":341561670,"gmtCreate":1617841202090,"gmtModify":1704703748254,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Going to explode","listText":"Going to explode","text":"Going to explode","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ca2ef53d4d76ec60c0e53aa2c582014","width":"1125","height":"2554"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/341561670","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":349,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":341584868,"gmtCreate":1617841016354,"gmtModify":1704703742113,"author":{"id":"3572989459139407","authorId":"3572989459139407","name":"Sachinpnyr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ec1478fc6ed7f7f4c6aed0ee012469e7","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572989459139407","authorIdStr":"3572989459139407"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/341584868","repostId":"1172555990","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":469,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
