Not only the company will struggle to return to the pre-pandemic levels anytime soon, but there’s also a risk that Airbnb could face a reputational crisis, which will negatively affect its share price in the future. Considering this and the fact that Airbnb already trades at nearly 17 times its sales, we believe that it’s better to avoid it at the current stage.
\n
Lots of Challenges Ahead
\n
Founded in 2008 by students B. Chesky, J. Gebbia, and N. Blecharczyk, Airbnb has grown from couch-surfing service to one of the biggest hospitality companies in the world with 5.6 million listings and a market value of ~$90 billion. The company’s stock has appreciated by over 100% since it went public in December 2020 but in recent months Airbnb’s shares have declined by almost 40% since their peak and currently trade around ~$150 per share. Despite this, Airbnb’s stock still had a better performance than the S&P 500 Index in the last few quarters, and at the current market capitalization the company is valued higher than Marriott International (MAR), Hilton Worldwide (HLT), and Hyatt Hotels (H) combined.
\n
Chart: Seeking Alpha
\n
While the stock had performed relatively well for those who managed to purchase Airbnb right after its IPO, the company’s financials show that its business is still far away from recovering to the pre-pandemic levels. While Airbnb’s management tried to minimize its losses to weather the pandemic by decreasing costs of revenues and optimizing the headcount last year, its R&D expenses were still significantly up Y/Y.
\n
In addition, in Q1 alone Airbnb reported $1.17 billion in losses, as its major markets haven’t fully opened during the three months, while some countries even tightened movement restrictions, which led to the poor performance of the bottom line. On top of that, Airbnb also spent $377 million on debt repayment, $292 million in connection with the load agreement warrants, $113 million on operating lease assets and office space improvements, and $229 million on its stock-based compensation program.
\n
On top of that, Airbnb has also reported a negative EBITDA of -$59 million in Q1, while its net operating margin fell to an unprecedented negative value. With such poor results, it’s safe to assume that it will take at least a couple of years for Airbnb’s business to return to its pre-COVID-19 levels.
\n
Another downside of Airbnb is that it seems that it’s not gaining any market share in a post-pandemic world. As travel restrictions are lifted, Americans are looking to travel again and are already preparing for summer vacations. However, according to Statista’s survey, the most popular option of booking accommodations in 2021 is through the accommodation's own website rather than through Airbnb or Booking (BKNG). On top of that, with such a variety of choices and services, it will be significantly harder for Airbnb to outperform its more popular peers due to the lack of a pricing advantage.
\n
Source: Statista
\n
What’s worse about Airbnb is that according to Bloomberg, the company is paying its clients, who are becoming victims of various crimes inside the booked apartments, millions of dollars for their silence. Bloomberg even found out that the company has a secret department with a budget of over $50 million, whose employees always try to resolve all incidents before they enter a public domain and before the press is involved, in order to keep its reputation intact.
\n
As a result, hundreds of stories remain unreported, as the company pays to offended clients in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement. By doing so, Airbnb tries to hide facts about unsafe stays in rented apartments and various cases of violence. While so far, this helped Airbnb to avoid a major reputational crisis, it shows that the company’s business model has some major flaws, as it rests on the idea that strangers can trust one another.
\n
As the company grows further and the number of available listings increases every day, there’s a risk that there might be a situation where Airbnb won’t be able to silence some of its offended clients and as a result, it will face a reputational crisis, which will negatively affect its stock.
\n
Considering all of this, we believe that Airbnb is a risky stock to own, especially since it trades at nearly 17 times its sales. Not only the company will struggle to return to the pre-pandemic levels anytime soon, but there’s also a risk that Airbnb could face a reputational crisis, which will negatively affect its share price in the future. Considering this and the fact that Airbnb already trades at nearly 17 times its sales, we believe that it’s better to avoid it at the current stage.\nLots of Challenges Ahead\nFounded in 2008 by students B. Despite this, Airbnb’s stock still had a better performance than the S&P 500 Index in the last few quarters, and at the current market capitalization the company is valued higher than Marriott International (MAR), Hilton Worldwide (HLT), and Hyatt Hotels (H) combined.\nChart: Seeking Alpha\nWhile the stock had performed relatively well for those who managed to purchase Airbnb right after its IPO, the company’s financials show that its business is still far away from recovering to the pre-pandemic levels. While Airbnb’s management tried to minimize its losses to weather the pandemic by decreasing costs of revenues and optimizing the headcount last year, its R&D expenses were still significantly up Y/Y.\nIn addition, in Q1 alone Airbnb reported $1.17 billion in losses, as its major markets haven’t fully opened during the three months, while some countries even tightened movement restrictions, which led to the poor performance of the bottom line. On top of that, Airbnb also spent $377 million on debt repayment, $292 million in connection with the load agreement warrants, $113 million on operating lease assets and office space improvements, and $229 million on its stock-based compensation program.\nOn top of that, Airbnb has also reported a negative EBITDA of -$59 million in Q1, while its net operating margin fell to an unprecedented negative value. With such poor results, it’s safe to assume that it will take at least a couple of years for Airbnb’s business to return to its pre-COVID-19 levels.\nAnother downside of Airbnb is that it seems that it’s not gaining any market share in a post-pandemic world. As travel restrictions are lifted, Americans are looking to travel again and are already preparing for summer vacations. However, according to Statista’s survey, the most popular option of booking accommodations in 2021 is through the accommodation's own website rather than through Airbnb or Booking (BKNG). On top of that, with such a variety of choices and services, it will be significantly harder for Airbnb to outperform its more popular peers due to the lack of a pricing advantage.\nSource: Statista\nWhat’s worse about Airbnb is that according to Bloomberg, the company is paying its clients, who are becoming victims of various crimes inside the booked apartments, millions of dollars for their silence. Bloomberg even found out that the company has a secret department with a budget of over $50 million, whose employees always try to resolve all incidents before they enter a public domain and before the press is involved, in order to keep its reputation intact.\nAs a result, hundreds of stories remain unreported, as the company pays to offended clients in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement. By doing so, Airbnb tries to hide facts about unsafe stays in rented apartments and various cases of violence. While so far, this helped Airbnb to avoid a major reputational crisis, it shows that the company’s business model has some major flaws, as it rests on the idea that strangers can trust one another.\nAs the company grows further and the number of available listings increases every day, there’s a risk that there might be a situation where Airbnb won’t be able to silence some of its offended clients and as a result, it will face a reputational crisis, which will negatively affect its stock.\nConsidering all of this, we believe that Airbnb is a risky stock to own, especially since it trades at nearly 17 times its sales. The decline in its shares from the peak a couple of months ago shows that the momentum is slowly fading away and we don’t see a potential for a stock to trade higher from the current levels in the long run anytime soon. In addition, the possible reputational crisis along with the risk of further lockdowns in Europe due to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 also outweighs the opportunities of owning the company. For that reason, we believe that it’s better to avoid Airbnb at the current levels, as the company faces numerous challenges that will make it even harder for it to recover to its pre-pandemic levels anytime soon.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":411,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":159693065,"gmtCreate":1624960079957,"gmtModify":1703848861258,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a These companies do, however, differ quite a lot from each other in a range of metrics, including growth, valuation, and there are also differences when it comes to each company's specific risks and moat. Apple is the largest company of these in terms of profits and market capitalization, but that does not necessarily make it the best investment. In this report, we will take a look at how Apple compares versus the other FAANG members.
\n
Are FAANG Stocks A Good Investment?
\n
Looking back a couple of years, the answer is pretty clear that FAANG stocks at leastwerea good investment in the recent past:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
With gains of 200% to 460%, these five companies easily trounced the broad market's returns over the same time, and all led to hefty gains, at least tripling an investor's money in just five years. The factors that led to these strong gains do, at least partially, still exist today. Notably, these five companies are generating compelling earnings growth, have leadership positions in the markets they address, possess strong brands that are well-received by consumers, and seem to have strong, long-term-oriented leadership teams.
\n
These factors are still in place today, which indicates that FAANG stocks could also be good investments in coming years, although investors should, even with high-quality companies, also consider a stock's valuation. Today, these companies do not look extremely cheap in most cases:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
At 26-64x this year's expected net profits, FAANG stocks can't really be called bargains, although the above-average valuations are, at least to some degree, justified due to the above-average earnings growth that these companies do generate. In any case, I doubt that investors owning FAANG stocks today will see 200%-400%+ returns over the next five years, as this seems unlikely for each of these five stocks due to the combination of current valuations and expected earnings growth. This does, however, not mean that FAANG stocks must be bad investments or underperform the market. In fact, in recent articles, I showcased that solid or even quite attractive returns can be expected from Facebook,Amazon, and Apple, even though the 30%-50% annual returns are likely a thing of the past - that's just mathematics, as no stock can grow at that rate forever.
\n
What Investors Can Expect From Apple
\n
Apple Inc. is not the highest-growth FAANG stock at all. Its growth has been solid but not spectacular in the recent past. This isn't a large surprise, as there is only a certain number of consumers that want to buy an iPhone or an iPad, and that amount can't grow by 50% a year for a very long time. Nevertheless, due to some market growth, some price increases, and growth from its services business, Apple should still be able to deliver sizeable revenue growth in the long run. New products such as the car project are a potential wildcard, but at least for the foreseeable future, this will not be a major profit center for the company. Apple also has a very ambitious shareholder return program, and its buybacks are an important factor for its future earnings per share growth. I believe that, overall, a high-single-digit earnings per share growth rate will be very much achievable for Apple in the long run. Combined with some multiple depression that I expect in coming years, as Apple will likely not trade at a high-20s earnings multiple forever, this gets me to a total return estimate in the 7% range. This is significantly less compared to what investors saw over the last couple of years, but on the other hand, 7% annual returns stemming from a strong, stable blue-chip stock such as Apple are not unattractive. I believe that some of the FAANG stocks could deliver stronger returns, primarily Alphabet and Facebook.
\n
Apple Versus Facebook
\n
Both Apple Inc. and Facebook have a great market position, but Facebook is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple. Apple has, in the smartphone industry, a market share of around 20%, although more in the higher-end segments. Facebook, for comparison, owns four out of the top five social media networks, with Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Clearly, FB absolutely dominates its industry. Facebook's industry is also growing quicker than the hardware IT markets that Apple serves, which is why Facebook's growth was significantly higher than Apple's growth in the recent past:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Facebook grew its revenue by well above 300% over the last five years, while Apple's revenue grew by a little less than 50%. When we look back at the total return chart at the beginning of this article and compare it to this revenue chart, we see that Apple's returns stemmed from multiple expansion to a large degree, whereas Facebook's stock actually got less expensive over the last five years. Facebook's business growth clearly outpaced its share price gains, which has made its shares less expensive. This also explains why Facebook, today, trades below the long-term median earnings multiple, whereas Apple's valuation is at the higher end of the historic range:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
The fact that Facebook trades at a historic discount points to a solid entry price, whereas the same can't be said about Apple. On top of that, Facebook will also grow much faster in the future - at least if the analyst community is correct:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
While Apple is expected to see revenue growth of around 10% over the next two years, Facebook is expected to grow by 40% over the same time. Facebook's earnings per share growth estimate is also materially higher than that of Apple.
\n
To sum things up, we can say that Facebook is growing much faster, is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple, and its shares are trading at a discount compared to the historic average, whereas Apple's shares are historically expensive. This combination makes me believe that the total return outlook for Facebook is better compared to that of Apple.
\n
Apple Versus Alphabet
\n
When we compare Apple to Alphabet, the comparison is relatively similar to what we just saw when comparing Applet to Facebook. Alphabet is a company that is growing quicker than Apple, and that can, to a large degree, be explained by its great market position and the higher market growth rate. Online advertising is a market that has been growing quicker than the tablet or smartphone market in recent years, and the same will, I believe, be true in the foreseeable future as well.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Alphabet is forecasted to grow its revenue by more than 30% over the next two years, versus Apple's 10% growth. On top of that, at close to 20%, Alphabet is also expected to grow its earnings per share at a higher rate.
\n
Nevertheless, despite its significantly better growth forecast, Alphabet isn't a lot more expensive compared to Apple. GOOG trades at 29x forward earnings, versus AAPL's 26x forward earnings multiple. Does it make sense for GOOG to trade at a premium of just 10%, while its expected growth is one and a half times as high as that of AAPL? You be the judge, but to me, it seems like the valuation looks better at Alphabet as long as we account for the stronger growth expectations. On top of that, with a net cash position of around $120 billion, Alphabet also has one of the best balance sheets in the world. Apple, for comparison, has a somewhatsmallernet cash position of $80 billion, although that still makes for a very strong balance sheet, of course.
\n
All in all, we can summarize that Alphabet is growing faster today, is expected to grow significantly faster in the next two years and in the long run, has an even better balance sheet and a more dominant market position, and yet it trades at an earnings multiple that is only 10% higher than that of Apple. To me, Alphabet thus looks like the more attractive pick among these two at current prices.
\n
Apple Versus Netflix And Amazon
\n
Looking at the last two remaining companies in the FAANG group, we see that, once again, AAPL is growing at a slower pace. However, valuations are significantly higher than they were historically.\nI believe that some of the other FAANG stocks are better, while others are worse. AAPL seems like a solid, but not a spectacular investment at today's valuation.\n\nMagioreStock/iStock Editorial via Getty Images\nArticle Thesis\nGoing with FAANG stocks, i.e. Facebook (FB), Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Netflix (NFLX), and Alphabet (GOOG)(GOOGL), has been a winning trade in recent years, as those companies delivered strong gains for their owners. These companies do, however, differ quite a lot from each other in a range of metrics, including growth, valuation, and there are also differences when it comes to each company's specific risks and moat. Apple is the largest company of these in terms of profits and market capitalization, but that does not necessarily make it the best investment. In this report, we will take a look at how Apple compares versus the other FAANG members.\nAre FAANG Stocks A Good Investment?\nLooking back a couple of years, the answer is pretty clear that FAANG stocks at leastwerea good investment in the recent past:\nData by YCharts\nWith gains of 200% to 460%, these five companies easily trounced the broad market's returns over the same time, and all led to hefty gains, at least tripling an investor's money in just five years. The factors that led to these strong gains do, at least partially, still exist today. Notably, these five companies are generating compelling earnings growth, have leadership positions in the markets they address, possess strong brands that are well-received by consumers, and seem to have strong, long-term-oriented leadership teams.\nThese factors are still in place today, which indicates that FAANG stocks could also be good investments in coming years, although investors should, even with high-quality companies, also consider a stock's valuation. Today, these companies do not look extremely cheap in most cases:\nData by YCharts\nAt 26-64x this year's expected net profits, FAANG stocks can't really be called bargains, although the above-average valuations are, at least to some degree, justified due to the above-average earnings growth that these companies do generate. In fact, in recent articles, I showcased that solid or even quite attractive returns can be expected from Facebook,Amazon, and Apple, even though the 30%-50% annual returns are likely a thing of the past - that's just mathematics, as no stock can grow at that rate forever.\nWhat Investors Can Expect From Apple\nApple Inc. is not the highest-growth FAANG stock at all. I believe that some of the FAANG stocks could deliver stronger returns, primarily Alphabet and Facebook.\nApple Versus Facebook\nBoth Apple Inc. and Facebook have a great market position, but Facebook is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple. Facebook's industry is also growing quicker than the hardware IT markets that Apple serves, which is why Facebook's growth was significantly higher than Apple's growth in the recent past:\nData by YCharts\nFacebook grew its revenue by well above 300% over the last five years, while Apple's revenue grew by a little less than 50%. This also explains why Facebook, today, trades below the long-term median earnings multiple, whereas Apple's valuation is at the higher end of the historic range:\nData by YCharts\nThe fact that Facebook trades at a historic discount points to a solid entry price, whereas the same can't be said about Apple. On top of that, Facebook will also grow much faster in the future - at least if the analyst community is correct:\nData by YCharts\nWhile Apple is expected to see revenue growth of around 10% over the next two years, Facebook is expected to grow by 40% over the same time. Facebook's earnings per share growth estimate is also materially higher than that of Apple.\nTo sum things up, we can say that Facebook is growing much faster, is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple, and its shares are trading at a discount compared to the historic average, whereas Apple's shares are historically expensive. This combination makes me believe that the total return outlook for Facebook is better compared to that of Apple.\nApple Versus Alphabet\nWhen we compare Apple to Alphabet, the comparison is relatively similar to what we just saw when comparing Applet to Facebook. Alphabet is a company that is growing quicker than Apple, and that can, to a large degree, be explained by its great market position and the higher market growth rate. Online advertising is a market that has been growing quicker than the tablet or smartphone market in recent years, and the same will, I believe, be true in the foreseeable future as well.\nData by YCharts\nAlphabet is forecasted to grow its revenue by more than 30% over the next two years, versus Apple's 10% growth. On top of that, at close to 20%, Alphabet is also expected to grow its earnings per share at a higher rate.\nNevertheless, despite its significantly better growth forecast, Alphabet isn't a lot more expensive compared to Apple. Apple, for comparison, has a somewhatsmallernet cash position of $80 billion, although that still makes for a very strong balance sheet, of course.\nAll in all, we can summarize that Alphabet is growing faster today, is expected to grow significantly faster in the next two years and in the long run, has an even better balance sheet and a more dominant market position, and yet it trades at an earnings multiple that is only 10% higher than that of Apple. To me, Alphabet thus looks like the more attractive pick among these two at current prices.\nApple Versus Netflix And Amazon\nLooking at the last two remaining companies in the FAANG group, we see that, once again, AAPL is growing at a slower pace. Unless Facebook and Alphabet, however, both Netflix and Amazon are way more expensive than Apple.\nThis huge valuation premium offsets, at least to some degree, the higher expected growth, which is why I believe that Netflix and Amazon do not really seem like much better picks compared to Apple:\nData by YCharts\nAMZN and NFLX trade at PEG ratios of 1.8 and 1.9, which does not represent a clear discount compared to AAPL's valuation. On top of that, these two companies do not possess balance sheets that are as strong as that of Apple.\nNetflix, especially, looks significantly worse compared to the other FAANG members in terms of balance sheet strength and cash generation:\nData by YCharts\nNetflix is the only FAANG member with a meaningful net debt position, and its free cash flows are equal to just 1% of its market capitalization. Netflix grows fast, but to me, it seems doubtful whether the current valuation is justified. Considering that more and more companies are pushing into the streaming market, including Disney (DIS), Amazon, and AT&T(NYSE:T), more competition might hurt Netflix's margins in the future. NFLX thus seems like the worst pick among the five FAANG stocks to me, as it combines a high valuation, weak cash flows, and a somewhat uncertain competitive picture, and I think that is not fully negated by its strong growth alone.\nAmazon has a better market position than Netflix, a better balance sheet, and its valuation, relative to its growth, is a little lower than that of Netflix. I would rate Amazon as more or less equally attractive to Apple, although the two companies are quite different from each other in terms of growth, valuation, and shareholder returns.\nWhich Is The Best FAANG Stock To Buy?\nNot every investor has the same goals, thus the answer may be different depending on what you are looking for in a stock. To me, Apple seems like a solid, but outstanding pick at current prices - the business undoubtedly is strong, the balance sheet is great, shareholder returns are hefty, but the valuation seems stretched, especially when we consider how cheap shares were in the past.\nAlphabet and Facebook do seem like the best FAANG picks to me today, as they combine strong growth with valuations that are only marginally higher than that of Apple. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
\n
Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.
\n
As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.
\n
This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.
\n
Both the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.
\n
Clearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”
\n
As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.
\n
What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.
\n
The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.
\n
This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.
\n
However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.
\n
Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential
\n
I’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.
\n
The company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.
\n
The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.
\n
Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.
\n
With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.
\n
That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.
\n
Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.\nInstead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.\nAs a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.\nThis “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.\nBoth the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.\nClearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”\nAs someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.\nWhat Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.\nThe good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.\nThis is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.\nHowever, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.\nTaking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential\nI’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.\nThe company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.\nThe company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.\nNow, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.\nWith the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.\nThat means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.\nShares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”\nInterestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. Strong demand in China even inspired a Citigroup analyst to upgrade NIO to a buy rating, as he expects demand to accelerate in the coming months.\nIn other words, NIO represents thecrème de la crèmeof EV stocks right now.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":66,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":129536786,"gmtCreate":1624376906745,"gmtModify":1703834994046,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","listText":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","text":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a83d847f1333e5e6896747fc63a558c6","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/129536786","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":129536909,"gmtCreate":1624376868001,"gmtModify":1703834993392,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gogogo","listText":"gogogo","text":"gogogo","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/129536909","repostId":"1118580429","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1118580429","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1624376537,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1118580429?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-22 23:42","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Krispy Kreme eyes near $4 bln valuation in U.S. IPO","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1118580429","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 22 (Reuters) - Krispy Kreme Inc is looking to raise as much as $640 million through a U.S. init","content":"
June 22 (Reuters) - Krispy Kreme Inc is looking to raise as much as $640 million through a U.S. initial public offering, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday, valuing the donut chain at nearly $4 billion. The connection is simple: Government spending is going up – as exemplified by the $1.9 trillion COVID stimulus bill passed this month, stimulative cash infusions into the economy are likely to boost consumer spending, and there are worries that the Biden Administration has no plans to pay for its increased spending.Several tax proposals made into the Democratic Party discourse in last year’s election, and President Biden was elected on at least an implicit promise to raise taxes on wealthier taxpayers.Should the progressive Democrats push these proposals into law, it will make an immediate, and likely negative, impact on the stock markets. And that brings us to dividend stocks. These traditionally defensive investments offer investors a ready income stream through the dividend payments, no matter how the market moves. The key factor is the yield, or the return rate of the dividend.Wall Street’s analysts have been doing some of the footwork for us, pinpointing dividend-paying stocks that have kept up high yields, at least 8% to be exact. Opening up the TipRanks database, we examine the details behind those payments to find out what else makes these stocks compelling buys.Arbor Realty Trust (ABR)The first dividend stock we’ll look at is Arbor Realty Trust, a direct lender in the apartment complex segment. Arbor funds small loans for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; in the fourth quarter last year, ending on December 31, the company originated over $2.7 billion in loans.Arbor's business is growing, and that is visible in both the company’s stock value and the quarterly results. ABR reported year-over-year revenue increases in each quarter of 2020 – even in the first quarter, during which EPS came in negative due to the corona crisis. In the most recent quarter, 4Q20, the company showed $125.6 million in total revenues, up 54% from the year ago quarter. EPS came in at 80 cents per share, compared to 72 cents in Q3 and 34 cents in 4Q19. Turning to the share value, ABR is up 211% in the last 12 months, far outpacing the broader markets. The company also provides investors with a strong dividend. Arbor has a 2-year history of keeping the payment reliable, and the current payment, sent out earlier this month for 33 cents per common share, marked the seventh dividend increase in the last 9 quarters. At $1.32 annualized, the dividend yields 8.57%, far higher than the 1.78% average found among peer companies.5-star analyst Stephen DeLaney, of JMP, is impressed with Arbor’s overall position, especially regarding the company's ability to produce strong agency volumes.\"Agency originations in the fourth quarter were $2.75B, an impressive increase of 88% from $1.47B in the third quarter. The pipeline for new originations is showing no signs of a slowdown yet and the company expects the agency lending momentum to continue into the first half of 2021. The agency servicing portfolio now sits at $24.6B and produces ~ $110M of recurring annual revenue, which is largely prepayment protected,\" DeLaney wrote.DeLaney points out that agency credit quality remains solid, noting: \"Loans in payment forbearance remain manageable with just 0.5% in Arbor’s $18.3B Fannie portfolio, while loans in forbearance in the company’s $4.9B Freddie Mac portfolio totaled 5.2%.\"To this end, DeLaney rates ABR shares an Outperform (i.e. Buy), and his $18 price target implies a 16% upside for the coming year.Overall, there are 4 recent reviews on file for Arbor Realty, and they are all Buys – making the analyst consensus view here a Strong Buy. The average price target currently stands at $16.75, which indicates room for 8% growth from current levels. (See ABR stock analysis on TipRanks)Mobile Telesystems (MBT)Next up, we’ll switch lanes and look at Russia’s largest mobile network operator. Mobile and wireless networks are big business, and Mobile Telesystems (MTS) operates in Russia, Belarus, and Armenia. The company offers a range of services, including cellular networks; local telephone service; and broadband.MTS doesn’t put its eggs in one basket. The company announced last week a $10 million stake in the AI chip developing Kneron, an investment that it hopes will pay for itself through chip distribution rights in Russia and the development of an exclusive line of AI-enabled smart devices. In its recent Q4/full year 2020 report, MTS showed positive growth on a number of key metrics. The company’s total group revenue for 2020 grew 5.2% year-over-year, to reach 494.9 billion rubles (US$6.5 billion). This was driven in part by a 6.4% increase in mobile service revenue in Russia during the fourth quarter. MTS showed a sequential quarterly gain of 230,000 active mobile subscribers in Q4. Pay-TV subscriptions grew 44% in 2020, and broadband subscriptions grew more than 10% yoy in the fourth quarter.MTS has an active dividend policy, regularly paying out twice per year, and adjusting the payment in to keep it in line with earnings. The most recent dividend went out in October of last year, at 19 cents per common share. This gives a 9.79% yield, a highly favorable comparison to the average yield found in the tech sector, of less than 1%. Also of note for return-minded investors, the company’s board approved a 15 billion ruble stock buyback in 2021. This comes to $198 million in US currency.J.P. Morgan analyst Alexei Gogolev takes a bullish stance on Mobile Telesystems, noting: “We are encouraged with MTS strong start of 2021 with continued mobile service growth as well as commitment for higher than expected shareholder remuneration despite elevated capex.\"The analyst added, \"We highlight strong fundamentals in the MTS story, supported by the healthy state of the Russian wireless market and no signs of incremental worsening of competitive positioning. We like MTS’ total shareholder returns (which are boosted by both dividends and share buybacks) and view the name as the best way to play the Russian telecom space.”To this end, Gogolev puts an Overweight (i.e. Buy) rating on MBT shares, and his $11 price target suggest a 33% one-year upside potential. So far, MBT has slipped under the radar of Wall Street’s analyst corps; the dearth of recent reviews leaves the stock with a Moderate Buy consensus rating. The shares are selling for $8.25, with an average price target, $11.10, matching Gogolev’s. (See MBT stock analysis on TipRanks)Two Harbors Investment (TWO)We’ll wrap up our high-yield dividend list with Two Harbors Investment, a real estate investment trust (REIT) with a portfolio focus on residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) mortgage servicing rights (MSR). The company states that ‘other financial assets’ make up between 5% and 10% of the portfolio.Looking back at recent performance, Two Harbors shows some mixed results from the end of 2020. In the fourth quarter, the company reported comprehensive income of $113.5 million, compared to $219 million in the previous quarter. Core earnings, however, rose quarter-over-quarter, from $75.5 billion to $82 million. Book value also came in strong at $7.63, up 3.5% from the prior quarter.Like most REITs, Two Harbors pays out a reliable dividend. The company reduced the payment early in 2020, at the height of the COVID pandemic crisis, but has raised it twice since then. The current payment is 17 cents per common share, declared on March 18 for payment on April 29. At this rate, which annualizes to 68 cents, the dividend yields a strong 9.3%.Covering Two Harbors for JMP Securities, analyst Trevor Cranston expects \"attractive dividend to persist,\" and believes \"the company should trade at a higher premium due to generally lower spread risk and low interest rate sensitivity.\"However, Cranston points out that investing in TWO stock is not without risk.\"We view the greatest risk to shares at these levels to be the outstanding lawsuit with the company’s former external manager. While the company has not established a contingent liability and we do not have a reasonable basis for estimating one, we acknowledge the risk that the lawsuit may result in a charge in the future that would lower the company’s book value and, therefore, also likely impact the stock price. While we believe a premium valuation for TWO is justified given fundamentals, we believe investors should also remain aware of this legal situation when investing in the company’s shares,\" Cranston opined. In line with these comments, the analyst rates TWO an Outperform (i.e. Buy), along with an $8 price target to imply a 10% upside.Overall, Two Harbors has 5 recent reviews, and they break down to 3 Buys and 2 Holds, for a Moderate Buy analyst consensus rating. The shares are selling for $7.25, and their $7.75 average target suggests a modest upside of 7%. These companies do, however, differ quite a lot from each other in a range of metrics, including growth, valuation, and there are also differences when it comes to each company's specific risks and moat. Apple is the largest company of these in terms of profits and market capitalization, but that does not necessarily make it the best investment.
I believe that some of the FAANG stocks could deliver stronger returns, primarily Alphabet and Facebook.\nApple Versus Facebook\nBoth Apple Inc. and Facebook have a great market position, but Facebook is even more dominant in its industry compared to Apple. The company is a critical supplier to U.S. technology giants likeApple(AAPL) andQualcomm(QCOM) and Chinese companies like Huawei Technologies. TSMC’s stock is widely held across the globe, and for good reason. It has returned an annualized 29% over the past decade.
\n
But TSMC shares are now caught up in a rare correction. The stock is down 15% since mid-February. Investors should avoid the temptation to buy on the dip, at least for now. A confluence of factors could make the next couple of quarters bumpy enough to give long-term investors a chance to scoop up shares of the tech juggernaut at an even cheaper price.
\n
To be sure, the long-term opportunity hasn’t changed. If oil was the crucial commodity of the past, semiconductors are the critical commodity of the future—and TSMC is a leader in making the advanced chips needed for 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and electric vehicles.
\n
Founded in 1987, the Taiwanese company accounts for roughly 60% of outsourced chip manufacturing and 90% of the profits. TSMC has made significant investment in its foundries, helping it manufacture ever-denser chips that generate more power while using less energy. RivalIntel(INTC) has struggled to match that success.
\n
Even the lone analyst with a Sell rating on TSMC stock sings the company’s praises: “This is an A-plus company with solid management,” says Mehdi Hosseini, senior equity analyst at Susquehanna Financial Group, who has covered TSMC for more than 20 years. But Hosseini says he can’t ignore the near-term challenges and the pricey stock.
\n
Despite the recent selloff, TSMC shares are still up 110% over the past 12 months, and they trade at 27 times earnings estimates for the next 12 months, well above the stock’s five-year average of 19.
\n
That elevated multiple doesn’t offer much cushion if and when challenges arise. Some money managers caution that near-term demand may not live up to analysts’ rosy forecasts for the next couple of quarters. Also, increased spending by TSMC and its rivals to meet a surge in demand could dent profit margins.
\n
Meanwhile, escalating geopolitical tensions put Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy that China considers a province, and its most important company in a fraught position.
\n
Daiwa Capital Markets analyst Rick Hsu is concerned that the chip shortage—which has hobbled automotive plants and sent gamers scrambling to find new consoles—could create inventory-related issues in the first half of 2022.
\n
Hsu toldBarron’sin an email that TSMC’s stock needs to shed another 15%, to about $100, to adequately reflect the current risk profile. The stock recently closed at $118.
\n
Lackluster demand related to smartphones, which accounts for 45% of revenue, could also lead to disappointment. With TSMC profit margins already near a peak, future growth will require a boost in sales. That could be challenging in the near term. Apple’s iPhone 13 is unlikely to offer a major catalyst, while Chinese smartphone vendors don’t currently have the killer app needed to drive upgrades, Hosseini says.
\n
“You can’t just give it multiple expansion because it’s a great company. You need earnings power,” Hosseini says, noting that the company trades at a significant premium to theS&P 500 index. He has a price target of $85, putting him far outside the consensus. Wall Street’s average price target on TSMC is $141.
\n
Analysts, on average, expect TSMC’s earnings to increase 14% to $4.06 a share this year, and 16% to $4.69 a share next year, with revenue growing 16% to $55.8 billion this year, and another 16% next year.
\n
Chips on the Table
\n
Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing have returned an annual average of 25% over the last decade.
\n

\n
In April, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei told investors of a structural increase in demand, with megatrends around 5G and high-performance computing applications fueling strong demand for several years to come.
\n
Even so, Wall Street’s estimates may be too optimistic, says Laura Geritz, CEO of Rondure Global Advisors, which owns TSMC shares. She notes that growth at the company was boosted last year as quarantined families loaded up on PCs, gadgets, gaming consoles, and home appliances, all of which require more and more chips.
\n
Those buying patterns could quickly change as the pandemic eases and central banks begin to taper their support of the economy.
\n
“I think you will get a better shot,” Geritz says of buying TSMC stock. “It’s expensive when you strip away what could be fiscal and stay-at-home economics.”
\n
One of the reasons that investors are drawn to TSMC is its deep and impressive list of customers. But that advantage is becoming increasingly costly to maintain as companies—and governments—push for more geographically diverse supply chains.
\n
In the U.S., the Senate just passed a sweeping $250 billion China package that includes funding and incentives for producing more chips closer to home, along with calls for increased funding of research and development more broadly to help the U.S. maintain its technological edge against China.
\n
The Biden administration just completed a supply-chain review of critical materials—such as chips—and is pushing to spur more production at home and make the U.S. less vulnerable to global supply-chain disruptions.
\n
The industry is already reacting. Intel recently unveiled plans to spend $20 billion on two new manufacturing plants in Arizona, whileSamsung Electronics(005930.Korea) plans to invest $116 billion over the next decade, which includes a new chip factory in the U.S. Meanwhile, TSMC has said it plans to invest $100 billion over the next three years—including building two new factories of its own in Arizona.
\n
The companies’ increased spending is probably required to maintain a competitive edge, and the expenditure could address some of the Biden administration concerns by moving some production back to the U.S.
\n
In the near term, though, the spending creates financial risk. Longtime TSMC investor Andrew Foster earlier this year sold the TSMC stake he held in his $2.1 billionSeafarer Overseas Growth and Incomefund (SFGIX). He cites concerns about the company’s increased capital expenditure and its potential impact on free cash flow and the dividend, which has a yield of 1.8%.
\n
Current valuations don’t account for those risks, according to Foster, who says he may reconsider if the stock gets cheaper.
\n
In an email, TSMC representative Nina Kao said the company’s investment in Arizona is intended to support customers’ long-term capacity needs and isn’t related to political pressure. The company, Kao added, is confident that the Arizona factory will be profitable.
\n
The biggest risk to TSMC shares is China. The country is intent on unification, and tensions have escalated with China increasing military activity in the South China Sea region. The company is a critical supplier to U.S. technology giants likeApple(AAPL) andQualcomm(QCOM) and Chinese companies like Huawei Technologies. TSMC’s stock is widely held across the globe, and for good reason. It has returned an annualized 29% over the past decade.\nBut TSMC shares are now caught up in a rare correction. The stock is down 15% since mid-February. Investors should avoid the temptation to buy on the dip, at least for now. A confluence of factors could make the next couple of quarters bumpy enough to give long-term investors a chance to scoop up shares of the tech juggernaut at an even cheaper price.\nTo be sure, the long-term opportunity hasn’t changed. If oil was the crucial commodity of the past, semiconductors are the critical commodity of the future—and TSMC is a leader in making the advanced chips needed for 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and electric vehicles.\nFounded in 1987, the Taiwanese company accounts for roughly 60% of outsourced chip manufacturing and 90% of the profits. TSMC has made significant investment in its foundries, helping it manufacture ever-denser chips that generate more power while using less energy. RivalIntel(INTC) has struggled to match that success.\nEven the lone analyst with a Sell rating on TSMC stock sings the company’s praises: “This is an A-plus company with solid management,” says Mehdi Hosseini, senior equity analyst at Susquehanna Financial Group, who has covered TSMC for more than 20 years. But Hosseini says he can’t ignore the near-term challenges and the pricey stock.\nDespite the recent selloff, TSMC shares are still up 110% over the past 12 months, and they trade at 27 times earnings estimates for the next 12 months, well above the stock’s five-year average of 19.\nThat elevated multiple doesn’t offer much cushion if and when challenges arise. Some money managers caution that near-term demand may not live up to analysts’ rosy forecasts for the next couple of quarters. Also, increased spending by TSMC and its rivals to meet a surge in demand could dent profit margins.\nMeanwhile, escalating geopolitical tensions put Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy that China considers a province, and its most important company in a fraught position.\nDaiwa Capital Markets analyst Rick Hsu is concerned that the chip shortage—which has hobbled automotive plants and sent gamers scrambling to find new consoles—could create inventory-related issues in the first half of 2022.\nHsu toldBarron’sin an email that TSMC’s stock needs to shed another 15%, to about $100, to adequately reflect the current risk profile. The stock recently closed at $118.\nLackluster demand related to smartphones, which accounts for 45% of revenue, could also lead to disappointment. With TSMC profit margins already near a peak, future growth will require a boost in sales. That could be challenging in the near term. Apple’s iPhone 13 is unlikely to offer a major catalyst, while Chinese smartphone vendors don’t currently have the killer app needed to drive upgrades, Hosseini says.\n“You can’t just give it multiple expansion because it’s a great company. You need earnings power,” Hosseini says, noting that the company trades at a significant premium to theS&P 500 index. He has a price target of $85, putting him far outside the consensus. Wall Street’s average price target on TSMC is $141.\nAnalysts, on average, expect TSMC’s earnings to increase 14% to $4.06 a share this year, and 16% to $4.69 a share next year, with revenue growing 16% to $55.8 billion this year, and another 16% next year.\nChips on the Table\nShares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing have returned an annual average of 25% over the last decade.\n\nIn April, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei told investors of a structural increase in demand, with megatrends around 5G and high-performance computing applications fueling strong demand for several years to come.\nEven so, Wall Street’s estimates may be too optimistic, says Laura Geritz, CEO of Rondure Global Advisors, which owns TSMC shares. She notes that growth at the company was boosted last year as quarantined families loaded up on PCs, gadgets, gaming consoles, and home appliances, all of which require more and more chips.\nThose buying patterns could quickly change as the pandemic eases and central banks begin to taper their support of the economy.\n“I think you will get a better shot,” Geritz says of buying TSMC stock. “It’s expensive when you strip away what could be fiscal and stay-at-home economics.”\nOne of the reasons that investors are drawn to TSMC is its deep and impressive list of customers. But that advantage is becoming increasingly costly to maintain as companies—and governments—push for more geographically diverse supply chains.\nIn the U.S., the Senate just passed a sweeping $250 billion China package that includes funding and incentives for producing more chips closer to home, along with calls for increased funding of research and development more broadly to help the U.S. maintain its technological edge against China.\nThe Biden administration just completed a supply-chain review of critical materials—such as chips—and is pushing to spur more production at home and make the U.S. less vulnerable to global supply-chain disruptions.\nThe industry is already reacting. Intel recently unveiled plans to spend $20 billion on two new manufacturing plants in Arizona, whileSamsung Electronics(005930.Korea) plans to invest $116 billion over the next decade, which includes a new chip factory in the U.S. Meanwhile, TSMC has said it plans to invest $100 billion over the next three years—including building two new factories of its own in Arizona.\nThe companies’ increased spending is probably required to maintain a competitive edge, and the expenditure could address some of the Biden administration concerns by moving some production back to the U.S.\nIn the near term, though, the spending creates financial risk. Longtime TSMC investor Andrew Foster earlier this year sold the TSMC stake he held in his $2.1 billionSeafarer Overseas Growth and Incomefund (SFGIX). He cites concerns about the company’s increased capital expenditure and its potential impact on free cash flow and the dividend, which has a yield of 1.8%.\nCurrent valuations don’t account for those risks, according to Foster, who says he may reconsider if the stock gets cheaper.\nIn an email, TSMC representative Nina Kao said the company’s investment in Arizona is intended to support customers’ long-term capacity needs and isn’t related to political pressure. The company, Kao added, is confident that the Arizona factory will be profitable.\nThe biggest risk to TSMC shares is China. The country is intent on unification, and tensions have escalated with China increasing military activity in the South China Sea region. Friction is likely to intensify: The U.S. has said it willsoon hold investment and trade talks with Taiwan,as the administration looks to strengthen Taipei.\nWhile policy watchers don’t see an armed conflict on the horizon, therisk of an accident is rising as military activity mounts. How to quantify TSMC’s China risk keeps money managers up at night. They say that a military conflict between China and Taiwan is an all-bets-are-off event that would rattle entire markets, not just TSMC stock.\nTSMC declined to comment on politics beyond stating that it was a “law-abiding company” focused on serving its customers.\nThe risks don’t change the fact that semiconductors have never been more important.\n“Valuations in quality growth names such as TSMC have clearly gone up, in part because demand for semiconductors is elevated, while at the same time there is quite a serious shortage of them,” says Martin Lau, managing partner at $37 billion FSSA Investment Managers, which is focused on Asia-Pacific and emerging market strategies.\nAnd yet, “cyclically, this is not the best time to buy TSMC, and the near-term margin of safety has fallen,” he adds. “We remain positive in the longer term.”\nInvestors just have to pick the right entry point.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":166,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":102565026,"gmtCreate":1620224703365,"gmtModify":1704340461246,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"good siah","listText":"good siah","text":"good siah","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102565026","repostId":"1179033774","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179033774","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620222760,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1179033774?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-05 21:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Boeing-backed start-up Wisk inks first deal to operate air taxis in the U.S.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179033774","media":"CNBC","summary":"Wisk, a start-up backed by Boeing and Kitty Hawk, has finalized its first deal to operate autonomous","content":"
\n
Wisk, a start-up backed by Boeing and Kitty Hawk, has finalized its first deal to operate autonomous air taxis in the U.S..The company will own, operate and maintain up to 30 eVTOL aircraft that will ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The country’s capital city Beijing recently handed out $1.5 million as part of a digital currency test during the Lunar New Year, following similar experiments in Shenzhen and Suzhou.\nChorzempa said one of the main reasons spurring the push for the digital yuan was the desire for a state backed and controlled alternative to incumbent giants such as the Alibaba-affiliated Alipay app and Tencent’sWechat Pay, which currently process about 95% of digital payments in China.\nUnlike most other major economies globally, mobile payments — largely through the Alipay app and Wechat Pay — has displaced cash in the last few years as the predominant form of consumer payment in China.\n″(The digital yuan) is something that’s really unprecedented among the major economies,” Chorzempa said. “China is ... by far the most advanced of any in digital currency and it’s exciting to watch.”\n‘Nothing like bitcoin or ethereum’\nTo be sure, Chorzempa said China’s digital yuan has very little in common with cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, known for its high price volatility.\n“I would say the safety levels (of the digital yuan are) very high and the risk is low,” he said. “It’s designed to have the same value as any regular renminbi, so there should be no price fluctuations to worry about.”\nIntermediaries that sell the digital currency in China are also expected to be “quite safe and carefully regulated” so long as they are sanctioned by the government, Chorzempa said.\n“I wouldn’t be too worried about the safety of a digital renminbi in a central bank regulated wallet,” he added.\nBeyond China, Sweden is expected to be among the first advanced economies to launch a digital currency, according to the PIIE researcher.\nSince Facebook first proposed launching the Libra cryptocurrency, now rebranded Diem, there has been a “huge wave of interest” among central banks that are concerned that a private tech company “might take over their currency” in a similar manner to how Alipay and WeChat pay dominate payments in China, he said.\n“I expect central bank digital currencies to continue to expand around the world,” Chorzempa said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":4,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":129536786,"gmtCreate":1624376906745,"gmtModify":1703834994046,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","listText":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","text":"$ContextLogic Inc.(WISH)$come on wish to the wishy moon","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a83d847f1333e5e6896747fc63a558c6","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/129536786","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":129536909,"gmtCreate":1624376868001,"gmtModify":1703834993392,"author":{"id":"3573364802612586","authorId":"3573364802612586","name":"Sakelee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4bb124d89183e5bf76f301af83325276","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3573364802612586","authorIdStr":"3573364802612586"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"gogogo","listText":"gogogo","text":"gogogo","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/129536909","repostId":"1118580429","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1118580429","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1624376537,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1118580429?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-22 23:42","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Krispy Kreme eyes near $4 bln valuation in U.S.
