reported very good news June 9, and the stock tanked.</p>\n<p>An adjusted net loss of 45 cents per share was offset by a sales gain of 25%, to $1.28 billion. This came despite&nbsp;closing 12% of the company’s stores..</p>\n<p>As of May 1 there was still $770.8 million of cash on the books, as the company sold new shares to engineer a turn toward e-commerce, led by former executives of&nbsp;<b>Amazon.Com</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>).</p>\n<p>Why, then, did the shares collapse? Because the numbers don’t matter. What matters is how small traders at WallStreetBets feel, and they’re feeling ripped off. Outgoing CEO George Sherman left with stock vested at&nbsp;$179 million. Other executives also made out&nbsp;big. The new guys could also net millions,without performing,from the stock’s gains.</p>\n<p>So far these are the game’s big winners.</p>\n<p><b>GME Stock: Is the Squeeze Still On?</b></p>\n<p>The price of Gamestop stock is not based on fundamentals. It’s based on a short squeeze, or the perception of one. With Gamestop adding a new shelf registration to issue new shares (which shorts can buy to cover their bets), that perception is diminishing.</p>\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<b>Twitter</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TWTR</u></b>) account of Wallstreetbets,the most popular tickers&nbsp;on June 11&nbsp;are&nbsp;<b>AMC Entertainment Holdings</b>(NYSE:<b><u>AMC</u></b>),<b>Blackberry</b>(NYSE:<b><u>BB</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Clover Health</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CLOV</u></b>). Gamestop is missing. This despite&nbsp;Igor Dusaniwsky of S3 Partners&nbsp;giving the stock a “short squeeze score” of 100 out of 100. (He used to measure it as 10 out of 10, but 100 sounds bigger.)</p>\n<p>Not all the juice has been squeezed. After falling 27% on June 10, shares bounced back in the thin pre-market trade June 11, recovering a small portion of the loss. What’s most scary to traders is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)&nbsp;investigation of past trading activity.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>What’s keeping the shares afloat, besides money inspired by the memes, is bearish commentary, like Baird calling Gamestop&nbsp;worthless.&nbsp;Such comments encourage shorts, and shorts encourage the squeeze.</p>\n<p><b>Ryan Cohen’s Play</b></p>\n<p>The practical result of the Gamestop squeeze has been to install&nbsp;<b>Chewy</b>(NYSE:<b><u>CHWY</u></b>) co-founder Ryan Cohen as chairman and, now, Amazon veteran Mike Furlong as CEO. Furlong wasn’t with the Amazon Web Services cloud unit. He was&nbsp;head of Australia operations.The new Chief Financial Officer is&nbsp;Mike Recupero, who had been running numbers for Amazon Prime Video.</p>\n<p>Together, these three men are supposed to create a great, grand new business model for Gamestop, based on the Internet. So far, this has meant&nbsp;fixing up a warehouse in Pennsylvania&nbsp;to sell games and systems online.</p>\n<p>But that’s not going to justify a market cap of $15.8 billion, which is 3 times sales at the first quarter run rate. If Gamestop could use the gamers’ cash hoard to help Amazon spin-out Twitch, its video game entertainment unit, that might be tempting. If it could use that hoard to help take Gabe Newell’s Valve public, that might also be interesting.</p>\n<p>Trouble is, that last paragraph is pure speculation. So far as I know, no move toward cloud gaming is contemplated.</p>\n<p><b>GME Stock: The Bottom Line</b></p>\n<p>I never recommend shorting stocks. Even when you’re right you can be wrong.</p>\n<p>When you short a stock you’re borrowing it, promising to buy it back. That means a hedge fund, or just a mean online gang, can bid up shares and squeeze you, without regard to fundamentals.</p>\n<p>The game is 150 years old, but the modern model is the&nbsp;<b>Herbalife</b>(NYSE:<b><u>HLF</u></b>) squeeze of the last decade.I covered the story for<i>TheStreet</i>.&nbsp;Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman publicly bet against Herbalife in late 2012. Other hedge funds then supported the stock. Ackman lost his bet.</p>\n<p>Since the height of the squeeze, at the end of 2013, Herbalife is up 56%. If Gamestop could use the gamers’ cash hoard to help Amazon spin-out Twitch, its video game entertainment unit, that might be tempting. include:Audacy,Booking Holdings,Warner Music Group,MatchandSimon.Match GroupThe online dating app company is poised to break out as mobility improves, according to Susquehanna analyst Shyam Patil.“Lots of upside potential still left ahead,” Patil wrote in a recent note.Match, which owns Tinder and several other dating websites, reported a robust earnings report in early may where it beat on revenue.“Tinder is continuing its momentum, and non-Tinder brands are crushing expectations, reaching a new record of 30% y/y growth in 1Q,” he said.Even as shares are down about 8.7% this year and have struggled under the weight of the pandemic, Patil said investors should stick with the stock.“We see MTCH as one of the strongest business franchises in the Internet sector, believe a likely second-half recovery should be a strong tail wind and would recommend taking advantage of the recent dip in the shares,” he wrote.It should be no surprise then, Patil added, that Match revenue continues to accelerate, especially as consumers reenter society.“MTCH noted that momentum is continuing across the portfolio, partially driven by the vaccine rollouts, particularly in the U.S.,” the firm wrote.Simon Property GroupA strong recovery is finally in sight for the beleaguered real estate investment trust and owner of malls and outlet centers, Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Goldfarb wrote in a recent note.The firm raised its price target on Simon to a Street high price target of $150 per share from $130 after the company reported strong first-quarter earnings in May.“All in all, the strong 1Q21 beat and guidance increase, from a team known to be conservative, bodes well for the balance of this year into next,” he said.Additionally, March sales were back to 2019 levels and that should give investors confidence that more foot traffic is just around corner, Goldfarb said.“As the return to normalcy accelerates, we expect the retail landscape to continue its robust rebound, especially into a mask-free 2021 holiday season,” he said.Goldfarb also predicted that consumers may see a familiar face return to Simon malls as it gets closer to December.“This even opens the door for a return of Santa in-person for the holidays, which further showcases the importance of the mall within the consumer landscape,” Goldfarb said.Shares of Simon are up about 55% this year.AudacyInvestors should buy the dip in shares of the broadcast and website radio platform company, Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall said in a note to clients.The company, formerly known as said.“There are early signs of pent-up demand in impacted verticals, such as restaurants, retail, and sporting events — and we believe the combination of small- and mid-sized businesses returning, local events coming back and digital revenue growth will drive a strong top line acceleration in 2H21,” he said.The stock is also cheap, according to Cahall, who has Street high price target of $7 per People steered clear of packed indoor movie screenings with the coronavirus pandemic still going strong, but that's less of a risk as more of the U.S. population has been vaccinated.</p><p>Hence, investors are betting that AMC's revenue and earnings will experience a massive rebound starting in the second quarter. In 2019, the company generated $5.42 billion from ticket, concessions (food and beverage), and entertainment sales and posted a free cash flow of $84 million.</p><p>But there's more. The pandemic also led to extended production delays, as social distancing can be difficult on a movie set. Many producers also did not want to release completed films in a purely digital format and miss out on lucrative box office revenue.&nbsp;</p><p>There is now a massive backlog of new films from blockbuster franchise properties such as <i>Avatar</i>,&nbsp;<i>Dungeons &amp; Dragons, Ghostbusters, Halloween, Kingsman, The Matrix, Minecraft, Mission: Impossible, </i>and<i> Tomb Raider, </i>as well as several new offerings from the comic book universes of DC and Marvel. They are all scheduled to be released by the end of 2022.</p><p>The schedule is so packed that prominent films like&nbsp;<i>Black Widow</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i>Cinderella&nbsp;</i>are set to hit theaters within two weeks of <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> another in July. Given its sheer size, AMC might even see its box office revenue hit record highs in 2022.</p><h2>Can you count on AMC?</h2><p>Generally speaking, most investors tend to buy on emotion and justify with reason. Now is probably time to look at the latter. When the stock was trading for just $12 last month, it looked pretty undervalued.</p><p>However, things have changed as AMC's market cap has surged to nearly $25 billion. To put things into perspective, the company's market cap was less than <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a>-fifth of that amount in 2016, before streaming services like <b>Netflix</b>&nbsp;gained momentum and took away some of its market share.&nbsp;</p><p>What's more, AMC has $5.4 billion in long-term debt and owes $4.9 billion per year in theater rent. Even in its heyday, the company operated at razor-thin margins. Now its balance sheet looks even worse as liabilities outpace its assets by over $2 billion. For these reasons, it's probably a good time to take profits on the stock and consolidate gains.</p><h2>But watch for its next move</h2><p>Based on the poor fundamentals (and experience with market bubbles), it can be very tempting to see the recent rally as nothing more than a pump-and-dump scheme or a total scam. But there is something that even prudent investors are missing.&nbsp;</p><p>With a $25 billion market cap, AMC only has to issue 22% more shares to raise cash to pay off its entire debt balance. That's right: The company has the potential to do a \"soft reset\" and start afresh. The returns would be immediate, as after closing, it would no longer have to pay $151.5 million per quarter in interest. In the first quarter of 2021, the company's interest expense outweighed its total revenue.</p><p>Not only would its profit margins increase, but it could also use new cash to increase its theater count, upgrade its recliner seats and big screens, introduce dine-in restaurants at its locations, and more. Since there is still a lot of demand from retail investors at these levels, I don't think it would have trouble finding buyers for the offering, either.</p><p>In fact, the company did just that on June 3. AMC sold 11.5 million shares of stock hours after announcing the offering, raising $587.4 million in much-needed cash. The stock fell by more than 30% from the previous day's close before recovering. Investors should continue to expect further dilutions ahead, as the new capital is still not enough for a soft reset of its liabilities.</p><p>Overall, AMC stock is very overvalued at these levels. But thanks to the help of 10.3 million traders/followers/influencers of WallStreetBets, the company now has the option to refinance or eliminate its crippling liabilities. If the share price comes down to something more reasonable (say, $20), I'd definitely give the new AMC a chance. The annual percentage rate (interest) for an Upstart loan is in the 8.27% to 35.99% range, depending on the product.</p>\n<p>Total non-housing consumer debt in the U.S. stood at more than $4.1 trillion in Q1, including about $745 billion in ''revolving credit'' (credit cards and other loans consumers can pay down, reuse, and carry balances on). Upstart has a substantial market opportunity that it has only just begun to tap.</p>\n<p>Potential borrowers can submit a loan application through a bank that uses Upstart's application programming interface (API). Behind the scenes, the company's artificial intelligence is assessing the proposed loan, looking at more than 1,000 data points to provide a decision instantly (in most cases).</p>\n<p>Upstart's algorithm has the ability to assess a borrower based on nontraditional metrics. For example, it accounts for a borrower's education and where they went to school, in addition to their job history, rather than just on income and assets. The company claims its decision process can reduce default rates by 75%. In fact, it boasts 173% <i>more</i> approvals for the same overall loan loss rate.</p>\n<h2>Priced for perfection</h2>\n<p>Banks are usually valued methodically, using metrics like tangible book value and earnings per share. Investors have decades' worth of historical earnings and valuations to work with when assessing financial institutions. The company beat that total in this year's first quarter, with a net income of $10.1 million, so you can see how fast it's growing. However, it will likely need to earn significantly more for its current valuation to remain at these lofty levels.</p>\n<p>The company expects to earn $500 million in revenue in 2021 -- which would represent 114% in yearly revenue growth -- and based on the Q1 result, this could translate to over $40 million in net income.</p>\n<p>For the company to keep up this pace, it will most likely need new catalysts, and it likely has them.&nbsp;Upstart is now offering its platform technology to auto financiers, to capture a piece of the single largest lending segment after housing. Total auto loans in the U.S. grew to $1.37 trillion in 2020, and car shortages have led to higher prices and pent up demand across the board.</p>\n<p>The company has trailing 12-month revenue of $290 million, so the stock currently trades at a revenue multiple of roughly 38 times. That's higher than <b>Tesla</b>'s! With the growth opportunities Upstart is expecting, the company has the opportunity to grow its way into a less intimidating multiple over the next few years.&nbsp;But if you're buying it today, Upstart <i>must</i> deliver.</p>\n<h2>Looking forward</h2>\n<p>Upstart is showing promising growth in originations, with $1.73 billion in Q1, up 102% year over year on 169,750 total loans. This is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the best metrics to measure the company's performance, as it translates directly to revenue. Since the company's algorithm instantly and automatically approved 71% of those loans, the scalability of this business is potentially enormous.</p>\n<p>If the company continues to deliver growth in net income, its stock will likely remain buoyant -- although the risk to the valuation <i>might </i>be to the downside, depending how fast that growth is. The question for investors is whether there is enough upside potential from here to warrant that risk. Upstart is guiding for a similar amount of net income in the second quarter as it delivered in Q1, putting the company on track to generate less than $50 million this year. Banks typically want to see a steady income, responsible spending habits, and an item of security -- like a house or a car -- before writing loans. Technology has improved the process significantly, and it continues to evolve to provide more information to lenders and more options for consumers.\nUpstart Holdings (NASDAQ:UPST) is all-digital lending platform with an artificial intelligence model that measures alternative metrics when assessing a potential borrower. The company uses the technology to help originate loans for lenders, and its business model is already delivering profits. Its valuation, though, has ballooned as enthusiastic investors bet heavily on the stock -- and it could take years for profits to catch up. Some of its offerings include personal loans, wedding loans, credit card consolidation, and car loans. The annual percentage rate (interest) for an Upstart loan is in the 8.27% to 35.99% range, depending on the product.\nTotal non-housing consumer debt in the U.S. stood at more than $4.1 trillion in Q1, including about $745 billion in ''revolving credit'' (credit cards and other loans consumers can pay down, reuse, and carry balances on). Upstart has a substantial market opportunity that it has only just begun to tap.\nPotential borrowers can submit a loan application through a bank that uses Upstart's application programming interface (API). Behind the scenes, the company's artificial intelligence is assessing the proposed loan, looking at more than 1,000 data points to provide a decision instantly (in most cases).\nUpstart's algorithm has the ability to assess a borrower based on nontraditional metrics. For example, it accounts for a borrower's education and where they went to school, in addition to their job history, rather than just on income and assets. The company claims its decision process can reduce default rates by 75%. In fact, it boasts 173% more approvals for the same overall loan loss rate.\nPriced for perfection\nBanks are usually valued methodically, using metrics like tangible book value and earnings per share. Investors have decades' worth of historical earnings and valuations to work with when assessing financial institutions. The company beat that total in this year's first quarter, with a net income of $10.1 million, so you can see how fast it's growing. However, it will likely need to earn significantly more for its current valuation to remain at these lofty levels.\nThe company expects to earn $500 million in revenue in 2021 -- which would represent 114% in yearly revenue growth -- and based on the Q1 result, this could translate to over $40 million in net income.\nFor the company to keep up this pace, it will most likely need new catalysts, and it likely has them. Upstart is now offering its platform technology to auto financiers, to capture a piece of the single largest lending segment after housing. Total auto loans in the U.S. grew to $1.37 trillion in 2020, and car shortages have led to higher prices and pent up demand across the board.\nThe company has trailing 12-month revenue of $290 million, so the stock currently trades at a revenue multiple of roughly 38 times. That's higher than Tesla's! With the growth opportunities Upstart is expecting, the company has the opportunity to grow its way into a less intimidating multiple over the next few years. But if you're buying it today, Upstart must deliver.\nLooking forward\nUpstart is showing promising growth in originations, with $1.73 billion in Q1, up 102% year over year on 169,750 total loans. This is one of the best metrics to measure the company's performance, as it translates directly to revenue. Since the company's algorithm instantly and automatically approved 71% of those loans, the scalability of this business is potentially enormous.\nIf the company continues to deliver growth in net income, its stock will likely remain buoyant -- although the risk to the valuation might be to the downside, depending how fast that growth is. The question for investors is whether there is enough upside potential from here to warrant that risk. Upstart is guiding for a similar amount of net income in the second quarter as it delivered in Q1, putting the company on track to generate less than $50 million this year. In fact, numerous companies have drilled in this area for decades prior to Amex; but no <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> could seem to find the prize.</p><p>The attraction to this area came from the past-producing Normetal Mine from which ~10.1 Million tonnes of 2.15% Copper, 5.12% Zinc, 0.549g/t Gold and 45.25 g/t Silver were historically produced.</p><p>This massive mine was a huge attraction. As the old saying goes in the mining game, “mother nature doesn’t like orphans. Where there is a discovery there may be brothers nearby!”</p><p>Amex decided to focus on their Perron Property, which lies due West of this huge past producing mine.</p><p>Fast forward a bit, and voila! Amex hit a massive discovery so big that they were the best performing stock on the TSX Exchange in 2019 and among the top 50 best companies on the OTCQX in 2020. (By the way, if you haven’t heard of it, then you missed the up to&nbsp; 7,000% return on that one.)</p><p>As that discovery was busy stunning investors, the team at <b>Starr Peak Mining Ltd. (TSX:STE.V; OTC:STRPF)</b> jumped at the chance to get into this area. They managed to strategically acquire all the land adjacent to Amex’s big discovery and also went one step further and acquired the past producing Normetal mine. We think this was a huge feat for a newly formed exploration company.</p><p><img src=\"https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/cbbp8ZBey.d8gNQOpxpJ9g--/cT03NTthcHBpZD15dmlkZW9mZWVkczs-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/oilprice.com/4f3c1ca4f87446e1bc63adc6065840df\" tg-width=\"450\" tg-height=\"348\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p><p>And the timing may be perfect.</p><p>They then commenced what’s reported as a fully funded 20,000-meter drill campaign in early February of this year.</p><p>They announced that after three weeks of drilling, the drilling was going so well that they brought on a second drill rig a month later – a prime indication of success – and they are reported to have now ordered a 3rd drill rig to the property.</p><p>On May 3rd, the maiden drill results were released, and they have grabbed the attention of the industry.</p><p>While Starr Peak always knew that their drill targets might be very good, what they probably didn’t expect to hit was something better than just gold.&nbsp; What they discovered is evidence of a VMS deposit with rock containing multiple base metals, including zinc, copper, silver and gold.</p><p>And it looks like it’s everywhere.&nbsp; In fact, the company has reported on 12 drill holes to date, and apparently they have not missed on any one of them (a good sign in this industry).</p><p>Some VMS deposits are included in the richest in the world. VMS stands for Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide, and these deposits are rich in base metals such as copper, zinc, silver, gold and other minerals.&nbsp; They are considered by some to be the holy grail of the mineral world.</p><p>There have been very few new VMS-style deposits discovered over the past decade …</p><p>Until Starr Peak (TSX:STE.V; OTC:STRPF) came along.</p><p>The first batch of drill results that Starr Peak just showed off this past week had highlights of 20.94% Zinc, 0.43% Copper, 39,58 g/t Silver and 0.21 g/t Gold over an intercept of over 12.1 meters.&nbsp; And this might just be the start.</p><p><img src=\"https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/SD.REVjZfc51WhRICaFyOA--/cT03NTthcHBpZD15dmlkZW9mZWVkczs-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/oilprice.com/e6c6d4a926c69fed524ec535e5efb08e\" tg-width=\"450\" tg-height=\"335\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p><p>They also highlighted a new discovery zone at depth with additional massive sulphides. These results should be back from the lab in the coming days and will be press released no doubt when in hand. No question we think this should be more excitement to come for the company.</p><p><img src=\"https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/_IsxJwy.XUy.vKC4omSzWg--/cT03NTthcHBpZD15dmlkZW9mZWVkczs-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/oilprice.com/205163fc3ad4983b2394071b9c695dc0\" tg-width=\"450\" tg-height=\"344\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p><p>Nothing seems to attract the big miners to a junior discovery like a VMS deposit in these current markets because the rock can be so rich and valuable, also making it a play not dependent solely on gold.</p><p>Prices of some of these base metals have skyrocketed and are set to hit even new highs as the demand for these metals seems to keep climbing.</p><p>With the world on the edge of a copper shortage as demand soars, combined with a global economic reopening, Bank of America sees prices for the metal jumping to $13,000 a metric ton in the coming months, from just over $9,000 today.</p><p>Zinc has also reached a multi-year high this month, feeding off this extremely bullish sentiment….</p><p>Silver prices are also breaking out….and they may be about to take gold with them.</p><p>That puts Starr Peak (TSX:STE.V; OTC:STRPF) in the middle of what could be a potential metals bonanza when at the start, all they were looking for was gold.&nbsp; In fact, a simple gold discovery might have been headlining news in itself for this ambitious junior but this VMS discovery they have made instead may already be getting the attention of some major players.</p><p>There was also one more major reason for confidence for the Starr Peak shareholders. One week before the discovery was announced, the Chairman and Founder of Amex Exploration was appointed as Starr Peak’s Chief Technical Advisor, making him the head geologist for this exciting junior.&nbsp; With his world-class reputation on the line and a significant Amex discovery already under his belt, we don’t think he would risk his title on anything less than a pretty sure thing.</p><p>Over the past three years, Amex has grown from a small junior gold company to now a major gold name with a market cap of approximately $300 million.&nbsp; Investors have seen monstrous returns of up to 7,000%.</p><p>Amex also appears to have a never-ending drill program going on and about $30 million in the bank to get them there.&nbsp; Analysts are calling for this market cap to potentially push $1 billion as they continue to drill.</p><p>Just next door, we think Starr Peak has progressed well over the past year.&nbsp; It also started with a small market cap and attracted a couple of directors from Amex in its infancy.</p><p>Additionally, there have been several early-stage investors in Starr Peak that were early-stage investors in Amex as well.&nbsp; This VMS discovery has now catapulted&nbsp; Starr Peak from the junior ranks to a serious contender with a market cap of approx. US$75 million.&nbsp; It has just attracted the founder and Chairman of Amex to give his expertise, and the three drills that are currently drilling aren’t likely to be stopping anytime soon.</p><p>The upside potential of a VMS deposit is significant, and our belief is that Starr Peak may have found what people have been searching for the past 80 years.&nbsp; This could make it another Amex and then some--very quickly.</p><p>Other companies looking to capitalize on a looming gold rush:</p><p>The world's third-richest person, and one of the most well known investors who has been against investing in gold for years, has changed his stance. In a recent announcement from Berkshire Hathaway to buy $564 million worth of Barrick Gold (NYSE:GOLD, TSX:ABX) shares at a time when gold was soaring, is a strong indication that he may be changing his mind about the precious metal.&nbsp; This change in attitude towards gold by Buffett could affect how many other investors view it as an investment opportunity. Buffett’s investment in Barrick and change in tune on the gold front shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, however. As the future of the economy looks more-and-more uncertain, and the Federal Reserve continues to print money at a record rate, solid gold miners like Barrick have drawn a lot of attention for investors, especially considering the healthy 0.96% dividend per share that comes with the purchase</p><p>Barrick Gold has had a particularly tough start to the year, seeing its share price fall from August highs of $29 to its current price of $23.89. That doesn’t mean the company isn’t still a good buy, however. Barrick Gold still has a healthy balance sheet, with debt down and enough cash on hand to remain well positioned and relatively risk-adverse.</p><p>Despite its excellent and higher-than-expected earnings, Barrick’s stock price has closely followed gold’s trajectory, with the price of the precious metal falling due to more positive economic news and a flourishing tech sector. But according to many analysts, this may not last much longer, and it is likely investors will pile back into gold again.</p><p><b>Newmont</b>&nbsp;(<b>NYSE:NEM, TSX:NGT</b>) is the single biggest gold company in the world, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still have some room to run. The company has a solid balance sheet with little debt and it’s still growing.&nbsp; It operates in 11 countries, including its flagship mine at Carlin, Nevada; and mines in Colorado, Ontario, Quebec, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Ghana and Argentina.&nbsp; As far as management goes Newmont doesn't have any weak spots. Its board includes veteran mining executives like Bob McAdam of Barrick Gold Corp., Tom Albanese of Rio Tinto plc (NYSE:RIO), Joe Jimenez of Dow Chemical Company (DOW) and John Wiebe of Kinross Gold Corporation (KGC).</p><p>The big news for the company in 2019 was its acquisition of Goldcorp. Though it was controversial at the time, the $10 billion acquisition has paid off in a big way. As gold climbed to record highs thanks to investors piling into gold due to the COVID pandemic, Newmont has seen a boom in its share price. Last year, gold soared from $1282 to over $2000 at one point, and Newmont’s stock rose with it, earning investors as much as 90% returns on their original purchase.</p><p>Like Barrick, Newmont has struggled in 2021, however, seeing its share price fall slightly from its November highs of $68 to its current price of $67. This path has been very closely related to the price of gold which has also tumbled in the same amount of time. That said, the company still has a lot of upside potential, and with Biden preparing to unleash a new infrastructure bill that will add more debt to America’s $28 trillion bill, investors will likely look into gold again this year.</p><p><b>Yamana Gold (NYSE:AUY, TSX:YRI),</b> one of the world's top gold companies, has seen its share price hit especially hard this year. The company fell to a low of $3.99 in March before rebounding to its current price of $5.08, which is still far cry from January highs at $6.68 per share, according to Yahoo Finance data .&nbsp; Yamana had been on an upward trend until February when it announced that three mines were closing and more than 1 billion dollars would be cut from their budgets as part of ongoing austerity measures due to slumping prices for precious metals and weak demand for mining equipment across the industry.</p><p>Earlier in 2021, Yamana signed an agreement with industry giants Glencore and Goldcorp to develop and operate another Argentinian project, the Agua Rica.&nbsp; Initial analysis suggests the potential for a mine life in excess of 25 years at average annual production of approximately 236,000 tonnes (520 million pounds) of copper-equivalent metal, including the contributions of gold, molybdenum, and silver, for the first 10 years of operation. The agreement is a major step forward for the Agua Rica region, and all of the miners working on it.</p><p>In its fourth-quarter earnings call, President and CEO of Yamana provided investors with a glimpse of what’s to come, “In 2022, we are forecasting 870,000 ounces of gold and 9.4 million ounces of silver and in 2023, 889,000 ounces of gold and 8 million ounces of silver.”</p><p><b>Kinross Gold Corp. (NYSE:KGC; TSE:K)</b>, one of the world’s largest gold producers, is constantly looking to expand its operations and has found success in many regions. The company mines for gold across six continents, with operations in Brazil, Ghana, Mauritania, Russia and the United States.&nbsp; It also operates a joint venture with AngloGold Ashanti Limited that provides mining services at two sites in West Africa—one of which was recently awarded an environmental permit from the government of Guinea.&nbsp; This year alone Kinross plans to invest $1 billion into expansion projects throughout their global footprint as they continue to grow their business worldwide.</p><p>Since 2015, Kinross has seen its share price rise by as much as 400%. In fact, this year alone, it’s already up by as much as 85%. And Kinross is showing no signs of slowing. In fact, numerous companies have drilled in this area for decades prior to Amex; but no one could seem to find the prize.The attraction to this area came from the past-producing Normetal Mine from which ~10.1 Million tonnes of 2.15% Copper, 5.12% Zinc, 0.549g/t Gold and 45.25 g/t Silver were historically produced.This massive mine was a huge attraction. They managed to strategically acquire all the land adjacent to Amex’s big discovery and also went one step further and acquired the past producing Normetal mine. No question we think this should be more excitement to come for the company.Nothing seems to attract the big miners to a junior discovery like a VMS deposit in these current markets because the rock can be so rich and valuable, also making it a play not dependent solely on gold.Prices of some of these base metals have skyrocketed and are set to hit even new highs as the demand for these metals seems to keep climbing.With the world on the edge of a copper shortage as demand soars, combined with a global economic reopening, Bank of America sees prices for the metal jumping to $13,000 a metric ton in the coming months, from just over $9,000 today.Zinc has also reached a multi-year high this month, feeding off this extremely bullish sentiment….Silver prices are also breaking out….and they may be about to take gold with them.That puts Starr Peak (TSX:STE.V; OTC:STRPF) in the middle of what could be a potential metals bonanza when at the start, all they were looking for was gold.  In fact, a simple gold discovery might have been headlining news in itself for this ambitious junior but this VMS discovery they have made instead may already be getting the attention of some major players.There was also one more major reason for confidence for the Starr Peak shareholders. In a recent announcement from Berkshire Hathaway to buy $564 million worth of Barrick Gold (NYSE:GOLD, TSX:ABX) shares at a time when gold was soaring, is a strong indication that he may be changing his mind about the precious metal.  This change in attitude towards gold by Buffett could affect how many other investors view it as an investment opportunity. Buffett’s investment in Barrick and change in tune on the gold front shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, however. The company has a solid balance sheet with little debt and it’s still growing.  It operates in 11 countries, including its flagship mine at Carlin, Nevada; and mines in Colorado, Ontario, Quebec, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Ghana and Argentina.  As far as management goes Newmont doesn't have any weak spots. Its board includes veteran mining executives like Bob McAdam of Barrick Gold Corp., Tom Albanese of Rio Tinto plc (NYSE:RIO), Joe Jimenez of Dow Chemical Company (DOW) and John Wiebe of Kinross Gold Corporation (KGC).The big news for the company in 2019 was its acquisition of Goldcorp. Though it was controversial at the time, the $10 billion acquisition has paid off in a big way. As gold climbed to record highs thanks to investors piling into gold due to the COVID pandemic, Newmont has seen a boom in its share price. Last year, gold soared from $1282 to over $2000 at one point, and Newmont’s stock rose with it, earning investors as much as 90% returns on their original purchase.Like Barrick, Newmont has struggled in 2021, however, seeing its share price fall slightly from its November highs of $68 to its current price of $67. This path has been very closely related to the price of gold which has also tumbled in the same amount of time. That said, the company still has a lot of upside potential, and with Biden preparing to unleash a new infrastructure bill that will add more debt to America’s $28 trillion bill, investors will likely look into gold again this year.Yamana Gold (NYSE:AUY, TSX:YRI), one of the world's top gold companies, has seen its share price hit especially hard this year. The company fell to a low of $3.99 in March before rebounding to its current price of $5.08, which is still far cry from January highs at $6.68 per share, according to Yahoo Finance data .  Yamana had been on an upward trend until February when it announced that three mines were closing and more than 1 billion dollars would be cut from their budgets as part of ongoing austerity measures due to slumping prices for precious metals and weak demand for mining equipment across the industry.Earlier in 2021, Yamana signed an agreement with industry giants Glencore and Goldcorp to develop and operate another Argentinian project, the Agua Rica.  Initial analysis suggests the potential for a mine life in excess of 25 years at average annual production of approximately 236,000 tonnes (520 million pounds) of copper-equivalent metal, including the contributions of gold, molybdenum, and silver, for the first 10 years of operation. The agreement is a major step forward for the Agua Rica region, and all of the miners working on it.In its fourth-quarter earnings call, President and CEO of Yamana provided investors with a glimpse of what’s to come, “In 2022, we are forecasting 870,000 ounces of gold and 9.4 million ounces of silver and in 2023, 889,000 ounces of gold and 8 million ounces of silver.”Kinross Gold Corp. (NYSE:KGC; TSE:K), one of the world’s largest gold producers, is constantly looking to expand its operations and has found success in many regions. The company mines for gold across six continents, with operations in Brazil, Ghana, Mauritania, Russia and the United States.  It also operates a joint venture with AngloGold Ashanti Limited that provides mining services at two sites in West Africa—one of which was recently awarded an environmental permit from the government of Guinea.  This year alone Kinross plans to invest $1 billion into expansion projects throughout their global footprint as they continue to grow their business worldwide.Since 2015, Kinross has seen its share price rise by as much as 400%.
