Should I Buy GOOG on Monday After Its Big Split?AlphabetWe’ve talked about how some great stocks are on sale right now. Here’s one for you: What if a stock went from $2,260 per share to $113… in one day… and nothing about this dominant business changed? You will see that Monday morning with shares of Alphabet(NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL).But don’t get too excited. In this case, $113 = $2,260.That’s impossible, of course. So what’s going on?GOOG shares are splitting 20:1. After Friday’s close, every single GOOG share gets divided into 20 shares. There will now be 20X more shares on the market, but the price per share be 1/20th of what it used to be.This is not some once-in-a-lifetime bargain to jump on.However, interesting things can and do happen around stock splits. So in today’s Market3

Global X SuperDividend ETF (SDIV) $Global X SuperDividend ETF(SDIV)$ is offering a very attractive dividend yield of 10.18% that is paid out monthly! Even after a 30% dividend tax, the yield is still good at around 7%.Upon further digging, I noticed that the ETF has only generated 0.93% per year for the last 10 years. This means that the ETF price has been falling and ate up the dividend gains over the years.I can think of two reasons. One is that such high yield stocks tend to be trashy and hence the underlying stock performance are bad. Second is that the ETF might be partly distributing capital, on top of the dividends, to improve the yield, causing the value of the ETF and the price to go down. After considering the 30% div tax, a foreign investor in SDIV will actually lose money even a

Meta Platforms: Betting on Its Innovative DNAMeta Platforms, Inc.+0.17%META stock experienced a decline in value due to high inflation and regulatory headwinds. However, the market’s expectations are so low that a few improvements in its business should boost the stock price. Meta’s growth prospects and value are too important to ignore.Meta Platforms (META), the tech giant formerly known as Facebook, made a surprising recovery after releasing its earnings report in April, sending its shares up 13%. Unfortunately, the stock has plummeted by more than 55% from last year’s trillion-dollar peak. Despite this, I am bullish on META stock. Its first-quarter earnings showed a recovery in daily active users for Facebook, comfortably beating analyst estimates. Considering the company’s positive quar

Microsoft’s Turn Is Coming in Stock Battle of Titans Software maker’s shares are underperforming Apple’s this year Analysts see Microsoft growth more durable than iPhone maker’s Signage outside the Microsoft campus in Mountain View, California.Photographer: David Paul Morris/Bloomberg In the stock market contest this year between the two biggest US companies, Microsoft Corp. has been no match for Apple Inc. With consumer spending under threat from a possible recession, some analysts are betting that performance is about to turn around. Their valuations might be similar, but their business models are quite distinct. Much of Microsoft’s almost $200 billion of annual revenue comes from providing essential software and services to businesses. Meanwhile, Apple is more at the mercy of consumer

Disney Stock: More Upside Potential Ahead after Magical Q3Disney stock is fresh off a great third quarter led higher by Parks and its streaming platform Disney+. As the firm’s segments fire on all cylinders again, count me as unsurprised if the firm can surge into a recession.Shares of media kingpin and video-streamer Disney (DIS) have been on quite a tear of late, soaring off their June lows. Undoubtedly, the stock was oversold and was long overdue for a relief bounce on the back of numerous catalysts I pointed out in prior pieces. Theme parks are flexing their muscles again, and recentDisney+ numbers were far better than feared. Indeed, there’s hope that the company’s third quarter is just a hint of what’s to come for the House of Mouse going into year’s end.

Apple Stock Offers a Good Hiding Place in a Rocky Stock Market. As earnings day gets closer, investors are having some early jitters. Since the start of the month, Apple stock is down 5% -- but not to worry, says Deutsche Bank analyst Sidney Ho. "While concerns about the China smartphone market and manufacturing shutdowns in China have increased recently," Apple stocks remains "a good hiding place in this volatile market." And next week's earnings are probably going to turn out just fine.Sure, on the one hand, the rapid spread of Omicron coronavirus in China has caused city-wide shutdowns and shuttered key factories, which could snarl supply chains and delay delivery of certain Apple products to market. iPhone supply chains in particular, however, which account for the majority of Apple's p

Will Meta Platforms Rebound Anytime Soon?Meta Platforms, Inc.Meta Platforms (FB 1.83%) surely hasn't had the ideal start to 2022. In early February, the social media giant delivered a weak fourth-quarter 2021 earnings report after experiencing its first-ever decline in daily active users on the Facebook platform. All around, growth to wrap up 2021 was patchy -- Apple's iOS privacy update, coupled with the company's transition to short-form video (Reels), continued to place pressure on its top line.To add fuel to the fire, Snap warned investors earlier this week that the macroeconomic environment has worsened more than anticipated. As a result, the social media company is now likely to report revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) metri
