The 10-year Treasury bond’s yield has fallen to 1.51% from 1.64% a month ago, even as inflation has run hotter than expected. The Nasdaq 100, an index of large capitalization and fast-growing technology companies,is up more than 5% in the past month. Growth stocks see a significant valuation booster when long-dated bond yields remain low, as growth companies expect growing profits on a particularly long-term basis. With the Nasdaq 100 hovering just below a new all-time high set on June 14—accompanied with a 10-year Treasury bond yield that’s well below its 2021 peak of 1.75%—tech stocks are vulnerable to a downward jolt if the Fed misspeaks. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the&nbsp;recently hot inflation. To be sure, most market participants see&nbsp;inflation as transitory, a result of a natural year-over-year bounce from low prices during last year’s lockdown. But the central bank has limited margin for error, and any miscues on messaging could be costly to the stock market.\nMarkets do not expect the Fed to make any sudden or drastic changes to its current easy-money policy. The 10-year Treasury bond’s yield has fallen to 1.51% from 1.64% a month ago, even as inflation has run hotter than expected. The Nasdaq 100, an index of large capitalization and fast-growing technology companies,is up more than 5% in the past month. Growth stocks see a significant valuation booster when long-dated bond yields remain low, as growth companies expect growing profits on a particularly long-term basis. But while investors expect the Fed to soon reduce the size of its bond-buying program, which would raise bond prices and lower their yields, most don’t think the Fed will do so immediately or drastically.\n“It’s pretty clear that the market expects Fed Chair Powell to strongly reiterate his stances,” writes Chris Senyek, chief investment strategist at Wolfe Research.\nNow, the Fed could stoke a harsh move downwards in tech stocks if it doesn’t choose its words wisely. With the Nasdaq 100 hovering just below a new all-time high set on June 14—accompanied with a 10-year Treasury bond yield that’s well below its 2021 peak of 1.75%—tech stocks are vulnerable to a downward jolt if the Fed misspeaks. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the recently hot inflation. To be sure, most market participants see inflation as transitory, a result of a natural year-over-year bounce from low prices during last year’s lockdown. Even so, if the Fed speaks in a way that indicates it will begin tapering before the end of the year—which is the expected timing—stocks could fall sharply.\n“With both stocks and bonds currently Bezos is set to step down as Amazon CEO on July 5 in favor of Andy Jassy.</p><p><b>2)&nbsp;U.S. Concrete(USCR) </b>– The concrete supplier agreed to be bought by construction materials makerVulcan Materials(VMC) for $74 per share in cash, or about $1.29 billion. That's a nearly 30% premium over U.S. Concrete's Friday closing price of $57.14. U.S. Concrete shares soared 27.7% in premarket action.</p><p><b>3)&nbsp;G-III Apparel(GIII) </b>– The apparel maker reported quarterly earnings of 53 cents per share, compared to a 15 cents a share consensus estimate. Revenue also came in above Wall Street forecasts. G-III issued an upbeat full-year outlook as well, noting growth in sales of its sportswear and wear-to-work attire. Its shares rallied 5.8% in premarket trading.</p><p><b>4)&nbsp;Blackstone(BX),Carlyle Group(CG) </b>– The two private-equity firms, along with Hellman &amp; Friedman, agreed to buy medical supplies company Medline Industries for about $34 billion including debt, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Wall Street Journal. That would be the largest leveraged buyout deal since the 2008 financial crisis. Investors left owning the stock after the initial promoters of the shares sell their stakes often end up with a losing investment.</p>\n<p>Small-cap fund managers, for the most part, have avoided these stocks. “Oftentimes, [meme stocks] do not meet our criteria,” says Jamie Cuellar, manager of the $1.2 billion&nbsp;Buffalo Small Capfund (BUFSX). “And we do not change our investment process if the market is rewarding meme stocks.” Chris Retzer, manager of the $228 million&nbsp;Needham Small Cap Growthfund (NESGX), says the same: “We would not chase those names based on our fundamental viewpoints.”</p>\n<p>That’s good news for investors, though a challenging stance for&nbsp;fund managers. Shares of&nbsp;AMC Entertainment&nbsp;Holdings (AMC)—the latest leader of meme stocks—surged 418% from May 21 to this past Wednesday, before falling 23% as of Friday’s close. At its peak, the stock became the largest member of the&nbsp;Russell 2000&nbsp;index—the benchmark against which many small-cap funds are measured—with a market value of $28 billion.GameStop&nbsp;was the third largest member. (Because meme stocks are generally of battered companies, they are usually found in the value index.)</p>\n<p>Fund investors, however, should be wary of attributing too much over- or underperformance to whether or not a fund owns meme stocks. Sure, it can be marginally more difficult to beat the benchmark when meme stocks are on a tear. But they don’t have as much influence as many investors think: The Russell 2000 has gained 16% so far this year; AMC and GameStop combined contributed just 1.3 percentage points to that rise. That’s still a high hurdle for active managers to beat. Similarly, when meme stocks drop, it can make benchmark-beating gains look more impressive. The company's product lineup now also includes frozen desserts and \"oatgurt,\" an alternative yogurt.</p><p>Toni Petersson has been Oatly's chief executive since 2012, and will join the board once the company is publicly-traded.</p><p>Christian Hanke, a former Nasdaq Stockholm executive, has served as Oatly's chief financial officer since March 2020.</p><p>The company is going public at a time when climate change and sustainability issues are top of mind for many consumers, particularly younger ones.</p><p>\"Generation Z and Millennials will become the dominant global generations in the coming years, bringing to the market a new set of values and expectations,\" the company said in its prospectus.</p><p>\"These combined factors are driving a clear rapid, accelerating growth and influx of new consumers to the plant-based dairy market.\"</p><p>According to the Plant Based Foods Association and Good Foods Institute, plant-based-food sales reached $7 billion in 2020.</p><p>Consumer Insights data quoted in the prospectus says the plant-based milk category will grow 20% to 25% over the next three years.</p><p>Oatly is focused on its role in helping to transform the food industry in order to be better for the environment and meet the health needs of its customers. The company points out that substituting a cup of Oatly for a cup of cow's milk reduces greenhouse gas emissions, land use and energy consumption.</p><p>Tastewise, which provides food and beverage data and intelligence, said in a December 2020 report that \"plant-based everything\" will be <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the top 10 U.S. trends for this year.</p><p>\"The number <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> reason consumers turn to plant-based food and beverage? Health,\" the report said.</p><p>\"Plant-based is no longer just an 'alternative' to meat, but rather a significantcategory in itself.\"</p><p>Oatly's key markets are Sweden, Germany and the U.K., though its products were available in 60,000 retail stores and 32,200 coffee shops around the world as of December 31, 2020. Among the places where customers can find Oatly is Starbucks <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SBUX\">$(SBUX)$</a>, where demand was so high there was a shortage soon after the coffee chain introduced beverages made with the item.</p><p>COVID-19 has impacted Oatly's business as lockdowns around the world limited access to restaurants, bars and other dining establishments.</p><p>In 2020, Oatly had revenue of $421.4 million, up from $204.0 million the year before. However, the company reported a loss of $60.4 million \"reflecting our continued investment in production, brand awareness, new markets and product development,\" the prospectus said.</p><p>Oatly is classified as an \"emerging growth company,\" which means it does not have to make the same disclosures required of bigger public companies. The company says it \"focused on targeting coffee's tastemakers, professional baristas at independent coffee shops\" as a way to enter the market.\"</p><p>By December 31, 2020, Oatly was in more than 7,500 retail shops and 10,000 coffee shops in the U.S. Revenue in 2020 totaled $100 million in the U.S.</p><p>Oatly can also be found in 11,000 coffee and tea shops in China, and at more than 6,000 retail and specialty shops across the country, including thousands of Starbucks locations.</p><p>Limited oat supply could have a financial impact. Oatly depends on five suppliers for the oats it uses, purchasing this ingredient through millers in Sweden, Denmark, the U.S. and Belgium.</p><p>\"We have in the past experienced interruptions in the supply of oats from one supplier that resulted in delays in delivery to us,\" the company said, noting that its oat supply is also vulnerable to natural disasters such as drought or floods.</p><p>\"We could experience similar delays in the future from any of these suppliers.\"</p><p>The company also depends on select suppliers for enzymes, including one supplier that provides an enzyme for some of Oatly's products, including Barista Edition oat milk.</p><p>The main components of the company's products are manufactured in four primary facilities as of March 2021, which could also be a problem if something significant happens at any one facility.</p><p>The dairy market is highly competitive. Oatly identifies conventional dairy companies, including Dean Foods Inc. (DFODQ) and Lactalis as competitors, as well as the growing array of plant-based dairy alternative companies that are entering the market, including soy, almond, hemp and cashew milk brands.</p><p>All of these companies are competing for a finite number of retail stores, coffee shops, foodservice clients and consumers.</p><p>\"In order for us to not only maintain our market position, but also to continue to grow and acquire more consumers, some of which may be switching from traditional dairy to plant-based alternatives, we must continue to provide delicious, high-quality products, and consumers must believe in our vision for a food system that is better for people and the planet,\" the company said.</p><p>Oatly's marketing and COVID-19 might be a hurdle to growth. The fund -- a FTSE 100 constituent with a market cap of more than GBP15 billion ($21 billion) -- has enjoyed remarkable gains over its history, marked by big, early bets on technology companies including online retailer Amazon <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMZN\">$(AMZN)$</a>, Chinese internet giant Tencent , and electric-car maker Tesla <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TSLA\">$(TSLA)$</a>, which the fund bought into in 2014.</p><p>Shares in Scottish Mortgage have fallen 9% so far in 2021, but the fund remains up near 60% in the past year.</p><p>In a letter to shareholders, Anderson called the world of conventional asset management \"irretrievably broken,\" and took aim at \"value investing,\" the strategy famously espoused by investors like Ben Graham and Warren Buffett.</p><p>\"The only rhyme is that in the long run the value of stocks is the long-run free cash flows they generate but we have but the barest and most nebulous clues as to what these cash flows will turn out to be,\" Anderson said. \"But woe betide those who think that a near-term price to earnings ratio defines value in an era of deep change.\"</p><p>Since the emergence of digital technologies, \"sustained growth at extreme pace and with increasing returns to scale\" has become more evident, Anderson said. He pointed to tech giant Microsoft <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSFT\">$(MSFT)$</a>, which continues to grow after 35 years as a public company.</p><p>\"Distraction through seeking minor opportunities in banal companies over short periods is the perennial temptation. It must be resisted,\" Anderson said.</p><p>He described how the classic and careful investing approach of choosing a level of risk and return along a bell curve is flawed. With the Nasdaq 100 hovering just below a new all-time high set on June 14—accompanied with a 10-year Treasury bond yield that’s well below its 2021 peak of 1.75%—tech stocks are vulnerable to a downward jolt if the Fed misspeaks. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the&nbsp;recently hot inflation. To be sure, most market participants see&nbsp;inflation as transitory, a result of a natural year-over-year bounce from low prices during last year’s lockdown. But the central bank has limited margin for error, and any miscues on messaging could be costly to the stock market.\nMarkets do not expect the Fed to make any sudden or drastic changes to its current easy-money policy. The 10-year Treasury bond’s yield has fallen to 1.51% from 1.64% a month ago, even as inflation has run hotter than expected. The Nasdaq 100, an index of large capitalization and fast-growing technology companies,is up more than 5% in the past month. Growth stocks see a significant valuation booster when long-dated bond yields remain low, as growth companies expect growing profits on a particularly long-term basis. But while investors expect the Fed to soon reduce the size of its bond-buying program, which would raise bond prices and lower their yields, most don’t think the Fed will do so immediately or drastically.\n“It’s pretty clear that the market expects Fed Chair Powell to strongly reiterate his stances,” writes Chris Senyek, chief investment strategist at Wolfe Research.\nNow, the Fed could stoke a harsh move downwards in tech stocks if it doesn’t choose its words wisely. With the Nasdaq 100 hovering just below a new all-time high set on June 14—accompanied with a 10-year Treasury bond yield that’s well below its 2021 peak of 1.75%—tech stocks are vulnerable to a downward jolt if the Fed misspeaks. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the recently hot inflation. To be sure, most market participants see inflation as transitory, a result of a natural year-over-year bounce from low prices during last year’s lockdown.
