Investing is very much about understanding the fundamentals and the technical trends. But the element that is lost most times is emotion, and it is the emotion of how people respond to news or events that seem to endure, shaping history.

Similarities in today's stock market and S&P 500 (SP500) echo the great bear markets of the past. The 2022 S&P 500 path has followed the paths of 1936, 2000, and 2008 cycles. It isn't to say that future is on a predetermined course; it is not. But it can give us a glimpse into what may happen next based on how bear markets and emotions have steered past performance.

1937

After rallying from March 1935 to March 1937, the S&P 500 dropped sharply until the summer of 1937, by nearly 19%. That was when the index saw a solid summer rally, which lifted the S&P 500 more than 14% off its lows, peaking around August 20, 1937. Following that summer rally, the market fell sharply, nearly 70% between September 1937 and April 1938.

Using a 31,065-day offset to overlay the S&P 500 of today versus that bear market, we can see the S&P 500 of today has plotted a very similar course to that of 1937. It would suggest that the S&P 500 of today is likely to be hitting an inflection point in the next couple of weeks. It could result in the recent 2022 rally continuing, the comparison with 1937 no longer working, or the S&P 500 of 2022 turning sharply lower as the market did in 1937.

Bloomberg

2000

The bear market that started in the year 2000 also shares many of the same properties as the S&P 500 of today. In this case, using a 7874-day offset, the two charts will line up. Following the 1998 sell-off, the S&P 500 rallied sharply until 2000. The S&P 500 of 2000 was more resilient at first, retesting its March 2000 highs again in September 2000. After that, the index saw a pronounced sell-off, followed by a January 2001 rally. That January 2001 rally marked the final rebound, followed by a nearly 20% decline into April 2001.

Again, the market of today is at the same point in time. Therefore, if the S&P 500 is going to turn lower and follow the path of 2000, that sharp decline could happen over the next couple of weeks.

Bloomberg

2008

Finally, the bear market of 2008 seems to match the S&P 500 of 2022 the most closely. A 5,218-day offset lines the double bottom in the fall of 2020 up with the double bottom in the spring of 2006. Like the two previous bear market examples, after peaking in October 2007, the S&P 500 went lower on a slow and steady decline of nearly 19%. That was followed by a rally in the spring of 2008, which led to a gain of almost 12%. Of course, after that rally, the S&P 500 again found itself turning lower, erasing the spring gains.

Bloomberg

Similarities

The declines may differ in each of these cases, but it isn't the reason that matters. Beating the S&P 500’s performance is no easy task, but these five companies have managed to do so, above and beyond.

Of course, past performance does not indicate or influence future performance. Stocks are valued based on expected future performance. In fact, asset management firms are required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to let clients know that historical returns are not correlated with future returns when bringing up historical returns.

However, impressive historical returns do tell investors a few things. For starters, it indicates that a company’s management has a history of executing well in favor of its shareholders. Whether that be in the form of innovative products, buybacks or a profitable business model, historical returns are evidence of a company’s past actions.

Stocks to Buy: Enphase EnergySource: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.com

ENPH stock has increased 15,000% in the past five years. The company operates in the solar industry and provides micro inverter solutions, home energy solutions and solar storage. Enphase had its initial public offering (IPO) in 2012 and was priced at$6 a share. Today, the company trades at over $185 per share.

However, the path to positive returns wasn’t easy. From 2012 to 2018, ENPH stock returned -34%. During 2017, the stock traded for as low as65 cents. Despite six years of poor returns, the start of 2019 marked a major trend change. Since then, Enphase has returned over 3,500%.

This was helped in part by the acceptance of solar power as an energy source. Furthermore, solar energy tax creditsfrom the federal government have incentivized customers to install solar home energy solutions. Today, the Department of Energy (DOE) classifies solar power as “thefastest growingand most affordable source of new electricity in America.”

Digital TurbineSource: weedezign via Shutterstock

Digital Turbine has returned over 4,000% in the past five years. The company utilizes an end-to-end platform for original equipment manufacturers, application developers and other parties. Through its platform, Digital Turbine provides mobile advertisements services.

For example, the company announced amulti-year partnership with Google (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) last year. Through the partnership, Digital Turbine will power “app discovery for nearly a billion Android devices globally while simultaneously expanding our footprint across the Android ecosystem including mobile, TV and connected devices.”

At the time of writing, APPS stock has a market capitalization of $3.9 billion, making it the smallest on this list. A low market cap does not necessarily indicate greater expected future performance. However, it does indicate that APPS stock should be a good bet as long as the company’s management is able to execute and partner with other reputable companies. In addition, Digital Turbine operates in a fast-growing market. In 2015, mobile devices accounted for 31.16% of all global website traffic. By Q4 of 2021, that figure had skyrocketed to 54.4%.

SolarEdge TechnologiesSource: rafapress / Shutterstock.com

Like Enphase, SolarEdge operates in the solar energy industry. The company describes itself as a“world leader in smart energy”and provides services for businesses and homeowners.

SEDG stock’s historic rally in 2020 was aided by Congress after it passed an extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC). The ITC stated that homeowners are eligible for a tax credit “for apercentage of the costof a solar photovoltaic (PV) system.” APV systemis comprised of solar panels, an inverter and other hardware to generate sun power into electricity. As part of ITC, consumers are eligible for a 26% tax credit for PV systems installed between 2020 and 2022. Meanwhile, these five companies have returned an average of 4,720% in the same time, outperforming the index by more than 50X. Beating the S&P 500’s performance is no easy task, but these five companies have managed to do so, above and beyond.Of course, past performance does not indicate or influence future performance. Whether that be in the form of innovative products, buybacks or a profitable business model, historical returns are evidence of a company’s past actions.Stocks to Buy: Enphase EnergySource: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.comENPH stock has increased 15,000% in the past five years. Since then, Enphase has returned over 3,500%.This was helped in part by the acceptance of solar power as an energy source. Furthermore, solar energy tax creditsfrom the federal government have incentivized customers to install solar home energy solutions. Today, the Department of Energy (DOE) classifies solar power as “thefastest growingand most affordable source of new electricity in America.”Digital TurbineSource: weedezign via ShutterstockDigital Turbine has returned over 4,000% in the past five years. Through the partnership, Digital Turbine will power “app discovery for nearly a billion Android devices globally while simultaneously expanding our footprint across the Android ecosystem including mobile, TV and connected devices.”At the time of writing, APPS stock has a market capitalization of $3.9 billion, making it the smallest on this list. By Q4 of 2021, that figure had skyrocketed to 54.4%.SolarEdge TechnologiesSource: rafapress / Shutterstock.comLike Enphase, SolarEdge operates in the solar energy industry. The company describes itself as a“world leader in smart energy”and provides services for businesses and homeowners.SEDG stock’s historic rally in 2020 was aided by Congress after it passed an extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC). In 2023, the tax credit will fall to 22%.Since 2020, SolarEdge has appreciated by over 190%. From its IPO in 2015 to 2020, the stock increased by over 340%. However, the solar energy tax credit from the ITC is set to expire in 2024, unless Congress decides to renew it. A failure to renew the provision could have detrimental effects for SolarEdge.TeslaSource: ShutterstockTesla is undoubtedly the most popular company on this list, boasting a five-year return of over 1,500%. The historic rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and Tesla’s outspoken CEO Elon Musk have helped power profound returns.Last year, global EV sales reached6.75 million units, up more than 108% YOY. Meanwhile, the share of EVs in global light vehicle sales tallied in at 8.3%, almost doubling 2020’s figure of 4.2%. What’s even more impressive is that Tesla is leading the way in EV sales. Last year, Tesla came in first place for most plug-in EV sales globally, selling936,172 vehicles.TSLA stock should continue to be a viable investment as long as it can continue growing its market share and brand power. Tesla is currently the fifth-largest company in the U.S. with a market cap of just over $1 trillion.CelsiusSource: ShutterstockTake a stroll in your local grocery and you’ll likely see cans of Celsius in the energy drinks aisle. Celsius produces calorie-burning energy drinks for athletes in a variety of flavors. CELH stock has appreciated over 1,300% in the past five years.Investors in Celsius aspire for the company to become the next Monster Beverage. Why? MNST stock is recognized as one of the greatest investments of all time. Since 2000, the stock has returned over 90,000%. Today, Monster has a5.9% shareof the global sports/energy drink market and is sold in over100 countries.Celsius is now expanding into new countries too, like Finland and Sweden. For the nine months ended Sept. 31, the company reported international revenue of$32.9 million, up 18% year-over-year (YOY). Meanwhile, total revenue grew to $210 million, up 121% YOY.Triple-digit revenue growth is wildly impressive, and investors have their full focus on Celsius as it works to increase its market share.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":460,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9919192257,"gmtCreate":1663746111279,"gmtModify":1676537328351,"author":{"id":"3575360126422468","authorId":"3575360126422468","name":"jerromey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b0415887ed05fd6a21d2db00ec617f04","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575360126422468","authorIdStr":"3575360126422468"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$Fb","listText":"$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$Fb","text":"$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$Fb","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4ce676b88d9697ad415e7f20755dae7","width":"1125","height":"3207"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9919192257","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":374,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9995747369,"gmtCreate":1661524508253,"gmtModify":1676536535045,"author":{"id":"3575360126422468","authorId":"3575360126422468","name":"jerromey","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b0415887ed05fd6a21d2db00ec617f04","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575360126422468","authorIdStr":"3575360126422468"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9995747369","repostId":"2262922590","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2262922590","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1661520796,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2262922590?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-26 21:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-S&P 500, Nasdaq slip at open ahead of Powell's speech","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2262922590","media":"Reuters","summary":"Aug 26 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq opened lower on Friday as investors worried about hawk","content":"

Aug 26 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq opened lower on Friday as investors worried about hawkish signals from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the annual Jackson Hole symposium.

The S&P 500 opened lower by 0.38 points, or 0.01%, at 4,198.74, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 8.69 points, or 0.07%, to 12,630.58 at the opening bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.65 points at the open to 33,293.43.

(Reporting by Bansari Mayur Kamdar in Bengaluru; Investing is very much about understanding the fundamentals and the technical trends.

Investing is very much about understanding the fundamentals and the technical trends. But the element that is lost most times is emotion, and it is the emotion of how people respond to news or events that seem to endure, shaping history.Similarities in today's stock market and S&P 500 (SP500) echo the great bear markets of the past. The 2022 S&P 500 path has followed the paths of 1936, 2000, and 2008 cycles. It isn't to say that future is on a predetermined course; it is not. But it can give us a glimpse into what may happen next based on how bear markets and emotions have steered past performance.1937After rallying from March 1935 to March 1937, the S&P 500 dropped sharply until the summer of 1937, by nearly 19%. That was when the index saw a solid summer rally, which lifted the S&P 500 more than 14% off its lows, peaking around August 20, 1937. Following that summer rally, the market fell sharply, nearly 70% between September 1937 and April 1938.Using a 31,065-day offset to overlay the S&P 500 of today versus that bear market, we can see the S&P 500 of today has plotted a very similar course to that of 1937. It would suggest that the S&P 500 of today is likely to be hitting an inflection point in the next couple of weeks. It could result in the recent 2022 rally continuing, the comparison with 1937 no longer working, or the S&P 500 of 2022 turning sharply lower as the market did in 1937.Bloomberg2000The bear market that started in the year 2000 also shares many of the same properties as the S&P 500 of today. That January 2001 rally marked the final rebound, followed by a nearly 20% decline into April 2001.Again, the market of today is at the same point in time. Therefore, if the S&P 500 is going to turn lower and follow the path of 2000, that sharp decline could happen over the next couple of weeks.Bloomberg2008Finally, the bear market of 2008 seems to match the S&P 500 of 2022 the most closely. Of course, after that rally, the S&P 500 again found itself turning lower, erasing the spring gains.BloombergSimilaritiesThe declines may differ in each of these cases, but it isn't the reason that matters. It is the patterns the market followed that matter. When overlaying 1937, 2000, and 2008 all together on one chart, they show that the bull rally phases had nearly the same duration, with all peaking within a 6-month time frame, followed by a sharp decline, a very sharp countertrend rally followed by a significantly steeper decline.BloombergDoes this mean the market of 2022 has to follow the same path? After all, most investors expected to see a more hawkish tone coming from these minutes. And as most investors know, rising interest rates are generally bad news for tech stocks.
