J.P. Morgan’sAlex Yao has an idea. The analyst believes “sentiment-driven fund flow is the current key share price driver and revenue recovery is the key determinant of market sentiment.”That is a bit of problem, then. Because Yao expects weak China consumption in the September quarter (F2Q23) to impact the revenue outlook.Since late August, Covid has once again been a disruptive force in a host of cities across China, and as such, Yao expects “limited improvement” in Alibaba’s core-core CMR (customer-management revenue) compared to the June quarter. The analyst sees the September quarter’s CMR falling by 4% from the same period last year, hardly any better than the June quarter’s 5% drop. On account of “low visibility of consumer sentiment improvement” or any relaxion of the Covid policies, the decline will continue in the December quarter, albeit at a slower pace (Yao expects a 2% year-over-year decline vs. anticipation of a positive turn previously). In contrast, given Alibaba’s firm commitment to cost-cutting and efficiency-improving measures, Yao sees “potential upside to consensus bottom-line projections.”However, that might not have enough of a positive effect right now. “Alibaba’s weakening revenue outlook in the near term could continue to weigh on the share price despite an unchanged, or even potentially better, profit outlook,” the analyst said, before summing up, “Nonetheless, we believe Alibaba’s share price is attractive on a 12-month view on 1) profit growth recovery to 20%+ in FY2024, 2) current consensus FY2024 PE of only 9x.”To this end, Yao rates BABA shares an Overweight (i.e., Buy) along with a $135 price target. This figure leaves room for 12-month share appreciation of ~69%. Yao’s rating stays an Overweight (i.e., Buy).Overall, Wall Street takes a bullish stance on Alibaba shares. 17 Buys and 1 Sell issued over the previous three months, making the stock a Strong Buy. Meanwhile, the $149.06 average price target suggests ~86% upside from current levels.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":15,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9913143179,"gmtCreate":1663944125491,"gmtModify":1676537368145,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm","listText":"Hmm","text":"Hmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9913143179","repostId":"1188811179","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1188811179","pubTimestamp":1663946362,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1188811179?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-09-23 23:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Downbeat Forecast Paints a Dismal Picture for PLTR Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1188811179","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"The CEO of Palantir Technologies(PLTR) acknowledged that its government-awarded contracts can be unp","content":"

The CEO of Palantir Technologies(PLTR) acknowledged that its government-awarded contracts can be unpredictable.

Moreover, Palantir's downbeat forward guidance will be off-putting to many financial market traders.

Investors should take a highly cautious, hands-off stance when it comes to PLTR stock.

When a company’s CEO is frustrated, that’s probably not a good sign for investors. They become bored and restless and want to do something even when conditions are not favorable. This inclination leads to the most common advice in a bear market: to build positions by averaging into them.

In theory, this is a great idea. No one can time the market with great precision, so a good way to build a position is to make smaller buys over a more extended period of time and hopefully end up with a pretty good average entry price.

There is no disputing the wisdom of entering positions incrementally, especially in a poor market, but executing this strategy can be challenging. The most common mistake is to average into a position too big and fast. When positions are too large in a poor market, there is an increased risk of panic selling.

The problem is that market participants tend to have a very strong tendency toward premature action. They want to act, and they also want to try to time the exact lows, and the combination of the two tendencies is that they act too early.

Buying Later Rather Than Early Is Better

In previous columns, I have discussed my view that buying later rather than early is better. If you buy after a low has occurred, there are precise support levels, and there is more likely to be sustained upside momentum. When you buy into the teeth of a decline, you have to hope that the downside momentum is about to stop and reverse. When the market is oversold, there can be some good countertrend bounces, but it is extremely hard to predict market lows prospectively.

Averaging into positions in a bear market probably causes more significant damage to accounts than anything else. The big danger is that the timing is wrong, and the position becomes uncomfortably large and refuses to bounce. This evokes strong emotions and causes panic reactions.

It is also essential to recognize that there is a risk that maybe you are betting on the wrong stock. Not every stock that sinks in a bear market will rebound when conditions improve. If you keep adding as it goes lower, you are setting yourself up for a major loss. This is another reason why it is important to look for some strength before you add to a position.

I am a big fan of an incremental approach to trading and investing, but far too many people do it wrong. They are too focused on buying weakness and trying to time the bottom. You have to be willing to add into strength and not just on weakness. People tend to want to buy weakness because there is the illusion that they are getting a bargain, but in investing, you make the big money not by buying the low but by buying a sustained uptrend.

This is a critical point that most market participants overlook. Just because a stock has found a low doesn't mean it will go up very much. Buying low isn't a great strategy if there isn't any significant high to sell in a reasonably short time frame.

I highly recommend using the 'average in' strategy, but I would amend it in two ways. First, use short-term volatility to trade the position. If you catch a bounce, then reduce the position and look to rebuy as conditions improve. Second, look to build the core position on strength rather than weakness. Don't just endlessly buy as the price goes lower. They become bored and restless and want to do something even when conditions are not favorable. This inclination leads to the most common advice in a bear market: to build positions by averaging into them.In theory, this is a great idea. They want to act, and they also want to try to time the exact lows, and the combination of the two tendencies is that they act too early.Buying Later Rather Than Early Is BetterIn previous columns, I have discussed my view that buying later rather than early is better. If you buy after a low has occurred, there are precise support levels, and there is more likely to be sustained upside momentum. When you buy into the teeth of a decline, you have to hope that the downside momentum is about to stop and reverse. When the market is oversold, there can be some good countertrend bounces, but it is extremely hard to predict market lows prospectively.Averaging into positions in a bear market probably causes more significant damage to accounts than anything else. This is another reason why it is important to look for some strength before you add to a position.I am a big fan of an incremental approach to trading and investing, but far too many people do it wrong. Buying low isn't a great strategy if there isn't any significant high to sell in a reasonably short time frame.I highly recommend using the 'average in' strategy, but I would amend it in two ways. First, use short-term volatility to trade the position. If you catch a bounce, then reduce the position and look to rebuy as conditions improve. Second, look to build the core position on strength rather than weakness. Don't just endlessly buy as the price goes lower. Make the stock prove that it has some relative strength before you trust it.Averaging into a position is standard bear market advice, but it has to be done right to be effective.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":10,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9051986208,"gmtCreate":1654637976804,"gmtModify":1676535480679,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$TAL Education Group(TAL)$lets go","listText":"$TAL Education Group(TAL)$lets go","text":"$TAL Education Group(TAL)$lets go","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/75de0f8169a188f973705ad280e39be7","width":"1080","height":"2191"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9051986208","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":78,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":863334570,"gmtCreate":1632357770290,"gmtModify":1676530760905,"author":{"id":"3575499385722971","authorId":"3575499385722971","name":"bobbylim","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1d9753dcafa04623c0e98c0bcaa291ae","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/863334570","repostId":"2169650271","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2169650271","pubTimestamp":1632343898,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2169650271?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-09-23 04:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall St ends higher as Fed signals bond-buying taper soon","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2169650271","media":"Reuters","summary":"NEW YORK, Sept 22 (Reuters) - The three major U.S. stock indexes rose 1% on Wednesday as investors m","content":"
NEW YORK, Sept 22 (Reuters) - The three major U.S. stock indexes rose 1% on Wednesday as investors mostly took in stride the latest signals from the Federal Reserve, including clearing the way for the central bank to reduce its monthly bond purchases soon.
\n
The S&P 500 registered its biggest daily percentage gain since July 23.
\n
While trading was choppy following the Fed's latest policy statement and comments by Fed Chair Jerome Powell, stocks finished close to where they were before the central bank news.
\n
In its statement, the central bank also suggested interest rate increases may follow more quickly than expected and said overall indicators in the economy \"have continued to strengthen.\"
\n
Bank shares rose following the Fed news, with the S&P banks index ending up 2.1% on the day, and S&P 500 financials up 1.6% and among the biggest gainers among sectors.
\n
Some strategists viewed the Fed's comments as mixed.
\n
\"So they said we're going to probably start to taper, but they haven't said when and haven't said how much, so we're kind of back where we were a day ago,\" said Paul Nolte, portfolio manager at Kingsview Investment Management in Chicago.
\n
\"Those remain open questions,\" he said. \"Also, financial conditions remain very easy, and that's part of the reason why markets aren't going crazy at this point.\"
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 338.48 points, or 1%, to 34,258.32, the S&P 500 gained 41.45 points, or 0.95%, to 4,395.64 and the Nasdaq Composite added 150.45 points, or 1.02%, to 14,896.85.
\n
Apple and other big technology-related names gave the S&P 500 its biggest boost.
\n
On the downside, FedEx Corp tumbled 9.1% after posting a lower quarterly profit and as the delivery firm cut its full-year earnings forecast.
\n
Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 3.88-to-1 ratio; However, his decision to sell most bank stocks while adding Citigroup (C) to Berkshire Hathaway’s (BRK) portfolio is puzzling Wall Street.

Here’s why this contradiction has caught so much attention.

Buffett loves banks

Buffett is deeply familiar with banking and financial services. He believes the business is relatively straightforward and can be extremely lucrative if managed well.

“If you can just stay away from following the fads, and really making a lot of bad loans, banking has been a remarkably good business in this country,” he told Berkshire Hathaway investors in 2003.

What about the 2008 Global Financial Crisis? Buffett went on a shopping spree during that time, picking up stakes in JP Morgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS).

For several years, major banks have been the biggest holdings in the Berkshire portfolio. In 2009, he even said Wells Fargo (WFC) was his highest-conviction investment.

“If I had to put all my net worth in one stock, that would’ve been the stock,” he told Berkshire shareholders.

Catching Buffett on the rebound

This year, Buffett has completely exited all these investments. Only a few banks remain in the portfolio.

That doesn’t mean the love affair with financial services is over.

In fact, Buffett added a new bank to his collection this year: Citigroup. However, his decision to sell most bank stocks while adding Citigroup (C) to Berkshire Hathaway’s (BRK) portfolio is puzzling Wall Street. Here’s why this contradiction has caught so much attention.Buffett loves banksBuffett is deeply familiar with banking and financial services. He believes the business is relatively straightforward and can be extremely lucrative if managed well.“If you can just stay away from following the fads, and really making a lot of bad loans, banking has been a remarkably good business in this country,” he told Berkshire Hathaway investors in 2003.What about the 2008 Global Financial Crisis? Buffett went on a shopping spree during that time, picking up stakes in JP Morgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS).For several years, major banks have been the biggest holdings in the Berkshire portfolio. In 2009, he even said Wells Fargo (WFC) was his highest-conviction investment.“If I had to put all my net worth in one stock, that would’ve been the stock,” he told Berkshire shareholders.Catching Buffett on the reboundThis year, Buffett has completely exited all these investments. Only a few banks remain in the portfolio. That doesn’t mean the love affair with financial services is over.In fact, Buffett added a new bank to his collection this year: Citigroup. During the first quarter of 2022, he added 55 million shares of Citigroup to the Berkshire portfolio. The stake is now worth $2.5 billion, making it the 16th largest holding in the basket. The bet seems to be predicated on a turnaround story.Citigroup’s transformationCitigroup has lagged behind its peers.
