The news was bad—and getting worse. Everyone from President Joe Biden on down was getting acrash courseonSilicon Valley Bank, the once-obscure tech lender that has now cast abig shadow over the financial markets.</p><p>At the White House and the US Department of the Treasury next door, bleary-eyed officials were racing to prevent the trouble at SVB from exploding into a full-blown banking crisis. A block west at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., regulators were arguing about what to do. Over at the Gridiron Club dinner, Washington’s annual see-and-be-seen white-tie journalism roast, a marquee guest, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, was conspicuously absent.</p><p>That Saturday, March 11, the fate of techdom’s preeminent bank—and with it, some feared, the future of the global economy—was being gamed out in Washington. Over the next 24 hours, almost everyone in the financial industry would be on tenterhooks as federal officials raced to complete a rescue before Asian markets opened Sunday night.</p><p>Almost a week later, the implications of the SVB fiasco, thesecond-biggest bank failure in US history, are still coming into focus. Questions keep piling up. How could SVB, a favorite of venture capitalists and unicorn startups, succumb to arun in the smartphone age? Why hadn’t banking regulators seen this coming?</p><p>Federal authorities want answers, too. The Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission haveopened investigationsinto the collapse. One potential focus:sales of SVB stockin the weeks before the failure by Greg Becker, chief executive officer of the bank’s parent company. Biden, meanwhile, has pledged a push totighten banking rules, which the Fed is already considering doing for midsize institutions like SVB.</p><p>This much is sure: All these years later, Washington is still haunted by the Wall Street fiascoes that triggered the Great Recession. The colossal bank bailouts of that era saved the economy, but they also rankled ordinary Americans, gave birth to the Tea Party movement on the right and Occupy Wall Street on the left, and transformed US politics. Backlash to the bailouts died down, but the resentment never really went away. It may have ultimately helped Donald Trump win the White House in 2016, some political scientists havesaid.</p><p>Which is probably why President Biden has been reluctant to even say the word “bailout.” He vowed on March 13 that “no losses will be borne by the taxpayers.” For the time being, Biden is right. This doesn’t look like aLehman momentthat could upend the whole economy. But it<i>does</i>look likea Bear Stearns one—a smaller debacle pointing to more pain to come, in this case, because of the sharp rise in interest rates that triggered SVB’s problems and are still roiling the financial system.</p><p>Federal authorities have taken the extraordinary step ofguaranteeing all deposits at SVBand opening a broaderemergency lending program. By midweek, the fix was holding. If it doesn’t, the next move might have to be a suspension of the$250,000 limit on federal deposit insurance.</p><p>Policymakers, venture capitalists, banking executives and tech entrepreneurs are all struggling to figure out the next steps. SVB’s failure has changed the conversation about banking and the regulators who oversee it. Suddenly, everyone is thinking about other risks that might be lurking. On March 14,Moody’s Investors Service cut its outlook for the entire US banking system, to negative from stable, citing the run on deposits at SVB. Two other lenders have gone bust, too: crypto playersSilvergate Capital Corp.andSignature Bank.</p><p>The death spiral at SVB began with credit ratings. In early March, Moody’s informed the bank it was considering a multilevel downgrade that would have pushed it to the brink of junk-bond status. In response, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., hired by SVB to help it raise fresh capital, jumped into action. It offloaded a chunk of SVB’s investment portfolio at a $1.8 billion loss. On Wednesday, March 8, Goldman pitched a plan to investors to help plug that hole, and then some, by raising $2.25 billion in capital fromGeneral Atlanticand other investors. Itdidn’t work.</p><p>“The Catch-22 of the situation is that, by announcing the need to raise capital, they in essence accelerated customer concern, resulting in the liquidity stress that ultimately caused their collapse,” says Olivier Sarkozy, managing partner atFurther Global, a private equity firm. “It would have been far better to announce the $2.25 billion they were seeking had been secured.”</p><p>In the bankers’ view, they were racing the clock to defuse the Moody’s threat. That didn’t leave them enough time to canvass the market, line up the funding and present a neatly put-together deal. Then CEO Becker held what turned out to be a disastrous call with VCs and limited partners. “Stay calm,” he said. It was too late. Bankers tapping away at their phones watched, aghast, as social media lit up with reports of a viral bank run.</p><p>By 3 p.m. the next day, Thursday, March 9, the news out of Santa Clarahad reached the White House. Such high-profile venture firms asUnion Square Venturesand thePeter Thiel-backedFounders Fundhad already been encouraging the companies they invested in to yank their deposits, almost all of which were uninsured because they exceeded the $250,000 limit on federal guarantees. Founders Fund haddrained its own accountsfrom the bank by midday.</p><p>The message was echoed by other VC titans.Bookface, an internal social network for founders of companies backed by the startup acceleratorY Combinator, was abuzz, as was a messenger threadof more than 1,000 founders fromAndreessen Horowitz, with many encouraging each other to pull cash from the bank. By day’s end, depositors had tried to withdraw $42 billion.</p><p>Silicon Valley bigs—many with a libertarian, get-government-off-our-backs bent—quickly looked to Washington. They implored the administration to step in and rescue depositors, or risk having banks topple like dominoes. On Friday morning, March 10, the new White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and Lael Brainard, the former Fed vice chair who’djust becomedirector of Biden’s National Economic Council, went to the Oval Office to brief the president. They told him there was potential for the bank to be shut down—as it was later that day, even before the close of financial markets—and that there was a possibility of contagion, according to a source familiar with the discussion.</p><p>From dawn to midnight the following day, Zients, Brainard and other aides working in the White House’s West Wing developed a set of options. By Saturday afternoon, it was clear that regulators would probably need to take action to prevent contagion. When Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and top aides briefed Biden on the options, he was adamant: The federal government stood ready to protect depositors, small businesses and employees. Executives and investors could take their lumps. He didn’t want taxpayers to be on the hook, and any deal had to include firing management.</p><p>In the Bay Area, Iba Masood was struggling to make sense of it all. Masood, the co-founder and CEO of a tech startup calledTara.AI, had raised $14 million from investors. And she’d parked every penny of the company’s money at SVB. Masood began firing off emails and texts—hundreds and hundreds of them, until her carpal tunnel flared up. Tara.AI, she told her investors, was facing a perilous squeeze. She hopped in her C300 Mercedes-Benz and raced through a driving rainstorm to a Bank of America branch. Drenched, she hastily opened a corporate account. She felt good, she said, confident. She’d wake up the next morning and have the money in the new account.</p><p>But there was no next morning for SVB. It was too late. The money was frozen.</p><p>Trae Stephens, a partner at Founders Fund, said the firm had had a long, fruitful relationship with SVB. But that long, fruitful relationship wasn’t going to help Thiel’s firm honor its fiduciary duty to look out for its backers and limited partners. And it wasn’t going to help all those startups make payroll.</p><p>“The most inconvenient thing about the situation last week was actually the name of the bank. It got instantly politicized,” Stephens said in aMarch 14 interview on Bloomberg Television. To him, the idea that Washington had somehow bailed out rich VCs and techies is hogwash. “The government did what it needed to protect and shore up these smaller regional banks, to ensure there weren’t any further runs. I am asking myself if META is a broken company or a broken stock? I believe META is a quintessential example of a mispriced stock in the market. </p><p>There are countless aspects that impact a company&#39;s stock price, but looking past perceptions and opinions, the numbers indicate that META is inaccurately valued. Unless financial fraud is occurring, the numbers disclosed on 10Q and 10K reports cannot be manipulated. </p><p>$1 of revenue and $1 of profit is still $1 of revenue and $1 of profit regardless of which industry a company operates in. If a company&#39;s revenue grows from $100 to $150, it doesn&#39;t matter if it&#39;s a technology company or a pharmaceutical company; the growth rate is 50%. </p><p>My feelings are that too many people are disregarding the Metaverse and using it as a narrative as to why META has lost its way, causing negative perception and uncertainty in its stock. </p><p>At the end of the day, the numbers are the numbers, and META&#39;s shares should be trading at a minimum of 80% higher.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/067d21ad0e376f86bcc4225f4d2c7c61\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"334\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><h2><b>The numbers are the numbers, and META is not being valued on what they are accomplishing</b></h2><p>The mentality of buying companies that make things and produce consumer staples during inflationary times needs to be replaced with investing in great companies with solid balance sheets that produce large amounts of profits. Unfortunately, out of all the valuation metrics, there isn&#39;t one that is looked at the same way throughout different industries. My opinion is that it&#39;s a tie between META and Alphabet (GOOGL) as to which company has the strongest balance sheet in the entire market. Some would say GOOGL as it has more assets, cash, and equity, but there are many similarities between the two. META has $0 in long-term debt, and its cash position of $40.49 billion is 92% of its total liabilities, which includes capital leases. META isn&#39;t a profitless tech company, yet its shares have plummeted more than -50% in 2022.</p><p>It is astonishing how investors can justify paying double the Price to Free Cash Flow (FCF) multiple for The Coca-Cola Company (KO) than META, when META produces more than double the amount of FCF, and profits. The Price to FCF metric is a longtime favorite of mine that has recently become popular as FCF has become important again. FCF is often looked at as one of the best measures of profitability as FCF excludes the non-cash expenses of the income statement and includes spending on equipment and assets as well as changes in working capital from the balance sheet. To some investors, FCF is more important to analyze than net income because it&#39;s harder to manipulate as it is a true indication of the company&#39;s cash. FCF is also the pool of capital that companies can utilize to repay debt, pay dividends, buy back shares, make acquisitions, or reinvest in the business. With every investment, you&#39;re paying the current value for a company&#39;s present and future cash flow. More commentators on financial networks have discussed the importance of generating FCF in the past 6 months than in the past 3 years.</p><p>I will go through META&#39;s financials, but to show how undervalued its shares are, I will compare META to 10 other companies. I am selecting companies from big tech and consumer staples to show the level of FCF produced in different industries and the price to FCF multiple for each company. This comparison will show that the methodology of investing in companies that produce things should be updated to investing in companies that produce strong cash flow, regardless of the industry they operate in. The companies I will compare META to are:</p><ul><li>Apple (AAPL)</li><li>Microsoft (MSFT)</li><li>Amazon (AMZN)</li><li>Alphabet (GOOGL)</li><li>Tesla (TSLA)</li><li>Procter &amp; Gamble (PG)</li><li>The Coca-Cola Company (KO)</li><li>Kimberly-Clark (KMB)</li><li>McDonald&#39;s (MCD)</li><li>PepsiCo (PEP)</li></ul><p>In addition to adding the disclosure at the end, I want to be clear prior to the analysis that I am a shareholder of AAPL, AMZN, GOOGL, META, TSLA, and KO. The numbers are the numbers and cannot be manipulated, and I am not cherry-picking information. I will be using the FCF over the TTM as the amount of FCF produced, not a projected Forward FCF number.</p><p>Below is a table of the price to FCF multiple Mr. Market has placed on each of these companies at the close of business on 9/15.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cf7dd587e809c33c52bf46c57ba1993c\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"204\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha, Steven Fiorillo</span></p><p>First, I will start by comparing META to the consumer staples companies I selected. The average price to FCF across PEP, MCD, KO, PG, and KMB is 27.82x. These companies have an average market cap of $208.34 billion and generate an average of $7.59 billion of FCF. PG is the largest company in this group, with a market cap of $327.86 billion, generating $13.57 billion in FCF, with a price to FCF multiple of 24.17x. KMB has the lowest FCF multiple of 22.65x and generated $1.8 billion of FCF in the TTM.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/96b576061282a7b5f2c693c23d683d0b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"125\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha, Steven Fiorillo</span></p><p>When I compare META to these companies, META&#39;s share price has fallen off a cliff while these consumer staples have a range of appreciating by 0.39% to declining by -15.63%. They have been safer investments, providing better downside risk mitigation while paying quarterly dividends to shareholders.</p><p>Here is where valuations get interesting. KMB has a market cap of $40.99 billion, generated $1.81 billion of FCF, and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 22.65x. META&#39;s market cap is 9.8x larger than KMB, yet it produces 19.8x the amount of FCF than KMB. You can purchase shares of META for a price to FCF multiple of 11.22x, which is slightly less than half the multiple Mr. Market has given KMB at 22.65x. The valuations do not make sense. If you were buying an entire company, would you rather purchase KMB for $40.99 billion when it generates $1.81 billion of FCF or META for $401.92 billion when it generates $35.83 billion in FCF? I would rather buy META at 9.8x the price tag to generate 19.8x more FCF, especially since I am paying a multiple of 11.22x for its FCF.</p><p>If I look at PG instead, PG has a similar market cap to META at $327.86 billion and produces $13.57 billion of FCF. PG is currently trading at a price to FCF multiple of 24.17x. This valuation also doesn&#39;t make sense as META is priced at a price-to-FCF ratio that is 53.58% less than PG&#39;s. META&#39;s market cap is only 22.59% larger than PG&#39;s, yet it generates 264.1% more FCF than PG. For an additional $74.06 billion (22.59% larger), you could buy the entire company of META and generate an additional $22.26 billion of annual FCF.</p><p>Looking at the most expensive staple, PEP, the valuations become even more unrealistic. PEP has generated $6.34 billion of FCF in the TTM and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 36.12x. FB has a market cap that&#39;s 75.57% larger than PEP, yet it produces 565.32% more FCF than PEP. The market has placed a multiple of more than 3x PEP&#39;s FCF on its price compared to how META trades.</p><p>These examples are to illustrate how the market values different types of companies. At the end of the day, the numbers and the numbers, and $1 of FCF is $1 of FCF, it doesn&#39;t matter if you&#39;re selling Tide laundry detergent, a can of Pepsi, or ads on Facebook. META generates tens of billions more in FCF than these consumer staples and trades at a fraction of the valuation, which in my opinion, is an indication that META is grossly misvalued in the market.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cd7b41ccbf9f032556a7dc82aaf95a28\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"334\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/67cf0fd52142b1d0c959b14d640871c3\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"126\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha, Steven Fiorillo</span></p><p>I wanted to compare META to consumer staple companies first because media commentators have been discussing allocating capital toward defensive companies, which has traditionally meant consumer staples. I believe cash is king and the combination of companies with growing revenues, large profits, large FCF, and clean balance sheets is where capital should be allocated to regardless of the economic environment.</p><p>When I look at META compared to the other large tech companies, META once again looks undervalued. The goal in business is to generate a profit, and AMZN has been operating at a negative FCF and low-profit margin in the TTM, yet its market cap vastly overshadows META&#39;s. In the TTM,AMZNhas generated $11.61 billion in net income compared to META&#39;s $33.63 billion of net income, yet its market cap is more than 3x the size. AMZN has also generated $35.57 billion of cash from operations in the TTM, placing its FCF at -$29.78 billion as they have allocated $65.36 billion toward CapEx. AMZN has a profit margin of 2.39% compared to META&#39;s 28.16%. Looking at AMZN&#39;s negative FCF, and low-profit margin, it&#39;s hard to justify META&#39;s 11.22x price to FCF.</p><p>The market has loved TSLA, and its market cap is on the verge of surpassing $1 trillion. Currently, TSLA has produced $6.94 billion in FCF and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 137.21x. Many investors would say you need to look at TSLA&#39;s growth, so I did. Since the close of 2018, TSLA has grown its revenue by $45.71 billion (212.97%) while META has grown its revenue by $63.57 billion (113.85%). While TSLA&#39;s growth rate is larger, META has grown its revenue by a significantly larger amount in the same period. Looking at net income, TSLA has grown its net income by $10.5 billion to $9.52 billion since the close of 2018, while META has grown its net income by $11.52 billion to $33.63 billion in the same period. When I look at the growth of TSLA, it&#39;s impressive, and TSLA is doing so many things well, but the valuation is broken. META has $0 in long-term debt, and its cash position of $40.49 billion is 92% of its total liabilities, which includes capital leases. META isn't a profitless tech company, yet its shares have plummeted more than -50% in 2022.It is astonishing how investors can justify paying double the Price to Free Cash Flow (FCF) multiple for The Coca-Cola Company (KO) than META, when META produces more than double the amount of FCF, and profits. The Price to FCF metric is a longtime favorite of mine that has recently become popular as FCF has become important again. FCF is often looked at as one of the best measures of profitability as FCF excludes the non-cash expenses of the income statement and includes spending on equipment and assets as well as changes in working capital from the balance sheet. To some investors, FCF is more important to analyze than net income because it's harder to manipulate as it is a true indication of the company's cash. FCF is also the pool of capital that companies can utilize to repay debt, pay dividends, buy back shares, make acquisitions, or reinvest in the business. With every investment, you're paying the current value for a company's present and future cash flow. More commentators on financial networks have discussed the importance of generating FCF in the past 6 months than in the past 3 years.I will go through META's financials, but to show how undervalued its shares are, I will compare META to 10 other companies. I am selecting companies from big tech and consumer staples to show the level of FCF produced in different industries and the price to FCF multiple for each company. This comparison will show that the methodology of investing in companies that produce things should be updated to investing in companies that produce strong cash flow, regardless of the industry they operate in. PG is the largest company in this group, with a market cap of $327.86 billion, generating $13.57 billion in FCF, with a price to FCF multiple of 24.17x. KMB has the lowest FCF multiple of 22.65x and generated $1.8 billion of FCF in the TTM.Seeking Alpha, Steven FiorilloWhen I compare META to these companies, META's share price has fallen off a cliff while these consumer staples have a range of appreciating by 0.39% to declining by -15.63%. They have been safer investments, providing better downside risk mitigation while paying quarterly dividends to shareholders.Here is where valuations get interesting. KMB has a market cap of $40.99 billion, generated $1.81 billion of FCF, and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 22.65x. META's market cap is 9.8x larger than KMB, yet it produces 19.8x the amount of FCF than KMB. You can purchase shares of META for a price to FCF multiple of 11.22x, which is slightly less than half the multiple Mr. Market has given KMB at 22.65x. The valuations do not make sense. If you were buying an entire company, would you rather purchase KMB for $40.99 billion when it generates $1.81 billion of FCF or META for $401.92 billion when it generates $35.83 billion in FCF? I would rather buy META at 9.8x the price tag to generate 19.8x more FCF, especially since I am paying a multiple of 11.22x for its FCF.If I look at PG instead, PG has a similar market cap to META at $327.86 billion and produces $13.57 billion of FCF. PG is currently trading at a price to FCF multiple of 24.17x. This valuation also doesn't make sense as META is priced at a price-to-FCF ratio that is 53.58% less than PG's. META's market cap is only 22.59% larger than PG's, yet it generates 264.1% more FCF than PG. For an additional $74.06 billion (22.59% larger), you could buy the entire company of META and generate an additional $22.26 billion of annual FCF.Looking at the most expensive staple, PEP, the valuations become even more unrealistic. PEP has generated $6.34 billion of FCF in the TTM and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 36.12x. FB has a market cap that's 75.57% larger than PEP, yet it produces 565.32% more FCF than PEP. The market has placed a multiple of more than 3x PEP's FCF on its price compared to how META trades.These examples are to illustrate how the market values different types of companies. At the end of the day, the numbers and the numbers, and $1 of FCF is $1 of FCF, it doesn't matter if you're selling Tide laundry detergent, a can of Pepsi, or ads on Facebook. Currently, TSLA has produced $6.94 billion in FCF and trades at a price to FCF multiple of 137.21x. Many investors would say you need to look at TSLA's growth, so I did. Since the close of 2018, TSLA has grown its revenue by $45.71 billion (212.97%) while META has grown its revenue by $63.57 billion (113.85%). While TSLA's growth rate is larger, META has grown its revenue by a significantly larger amount in the same period. Looking at net income, TSLA has grown its net income by $10.5 billion to $9.52 billion since the close of 2018, while META has grown its net income by $11.52 billion to $33.63 billion in the same period. When I look at the growth of TSLA, it's impressive, and TSLA is doing so many things well, but the valuation is broken. As <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the world's largest retailers, Costco was a mission-critical business during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Consumers visited stores to shop for everything from cleaning supplies to food.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The company's operations haven't changed much over time, and they likely won't anytime soon. Even e-commerce sales, which expanded rapidly over the past&nbsp;year&nbsp;and grew 41.2%&nbsp;in the most recent quarter, are slowing down. During the month of May, online revenue rose&nbsp;just&nbsp;12.1%, signaling&nbsp;that shoppers&nbsp;are able and willing to transact more in person now.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Costco is a&nbsp;recession-proof business&nbsp;that does well in good and bad economic times, which provides the safety investors want in a forever stock. Moreover, the reliance on membership fees, of which Costco generated $901&nbsp;million&nbsp;last quarter, allows the company to keep prices very low. As of March 31, Costco had 109.8&nbsp;million&nbsp;membership cardholders.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Costco has and will continue to gain from its relentless focus to pass on savings to customers. This consumer-friendly fixation makes it difficult for rivals to compete and makes the business that much more loved by its shoppers.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>2. Home Depot</h2>\n<p><b>Home Depot</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:HD) has grown to a $331 billion business because people love to spend on their homes. Again, this facet of human nature will never change, and it was on full display over the past year. Home Depot's revenue in fiscal 2020 increased 19.9%, the fastest annual gain in at least a decade. As consumers spent more time indoors and shifted spending away from travel, entertainment, and leisure, Home Depot benefited greatly.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>And even as we slowly recover from the pandemic, the&nbsp;momentum is still strong. Same-store sales (or comps) in the most recent quarter shot&nbsp;up 31%, continuing an acceleration over the past four quarters. The housing market is on fire, supported by still historically low interest rates and rising home prices, all of which support demand for Home Depot's products.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The company serves both do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional (Pro) customers. The former outperformed during 2020, but the latter is reemerging as a real growth driver as people require work on bigger projects and are more comfortable allowing contractors into their homes. Additionally, a seamless omnichannel approach allows customers to shop Home Depot in whatever manner they like. In the most recent quarter, 55%&nbsp;of online orders were actually fulfilled at a store.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Home Depot&nbsp;paid $1.8 billion in dividends in the first quarter, and also bought back $4 billion worth of shares. Focusing on returning excess cash to shareholders further boosts investor returns.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>3. Starbucks</h2>\n<p><b>Starbucks</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:SBUX), the ubiquitous coffeehouse chain with nearly 33,000&nbsp;locations worldwide, is arguably an even more important part of people's daily lives than the previous two&nbsp;companies. Americans (and the rest of the world) need their caffeine fix, and Starbucks is there to deliver.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The business is&nbsp;back to registering growth in the U.S. following a huge slowdown last year. With 22.9 million&nbsp;active rewards members, Starbucks' top-notch loyalty program encourages repeat business. In the most recent quarter, a whopping 52% of sales at U.S. company-operated stores were from these rewards-program customers.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>You may think there isn't much growth left for this powerful brand that already has stores basically everywhere, but think again. During the investor day presentation last December, CFO Patrick Grismer claimed that by 2030, Starbucks plans to have 55,000 outlets in 100 markets globally. This 67% increase would make it the largest restaurant chain in the world. With revenue of $23.8 billion over the past 12 months, this ambitious goal should certainly boost that number significantly.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Expect China, where comps soared 91%&nbsp;in the most recent quarter, to be a major growth driver going forward. Starbucks plans to open&nbsp;600&nbsp;net new stores in the country just in this fiscal year.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>Boring is beautiful&nbsp;</h2>\n<p>All three of these companies are absolutely essential in their customers' lives. Without Costco, Home Depot, or Starbucks, people wouldn't be able to get the things they desperately need. Furthermore, they all benefit from strong competitive advantages that protect them from rival firms.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>In the future, we know with a high level of confidence that the products that these businesses sell will still be in high demand. Costco Wholesale\nCostco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST), with its 809 warehouses around the world, generated sales of $44.4 billion in the most recent quarter, a 21.7% jump from the prior-year period. As one of the world's largest retailers, Costco was a mission-critical business during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Consumers visited stores to shop for everything from cleaning supplies to food. \nThe company's operations haven't changed much over time, and they likely won't anytime soon. Even e-commerce sales, which expanded rapidly over the past year and grew 41.2% in the most recent quarter, are slowing down. During the month of May, online revenue rose just 12.1%, signaling that shoppers are able and willing to transact more in person now. \nCostco is a recession-proof business that does well in good and bad economic times, which provides the safety investors want in a forever stock. Moreover, the reliance on membership fees, of which Costco generated $901 million last quarter, allows the company to keep prices very low. As of March 31, Costco had 109.8 million membership cardholders. \nCostco has and will continue to gain from its relentless focus to pass on savings to customers. This consumer-friendly fixation makes it difficult for rivals to compete and makes the business that much more loved by its shoppers. \n2. Home Depot\nHome Depot (NYSE:HD) has grown to a $331 billion business because people love to spend on their homes. Again, this facet of human nature will never change, and it was on full display over the past year. Home Depot's revenue in fiscal 2020 increased 19.9%, the fastest annual gain in at least a decade. As consumers spent more time indoors and shifted spending away from travel, entertainment, and leisure, Home Depot benefited greatly. \nAnd even as we slowly recover from the pandemic, the momentum is still strong. Same-store sales (or comps) in the most recent quarter shot up 31%, continuing an acceleration over the past four quarters. The housing market is on fire, supported by still historically low interest rates and rising home prices, all of which support demand for Home Depot's products. \nThe company serves both do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional (Pro) customers. The former outperformed during 2020, but the latter is reemerging as a real growth driver as people require work on bigger projects and are more comfortable allowing contractors into their homes. Additionally, a seamless omnichannel approach allows customers to shop Home Depot in whatever manner they like. In the most recent quarter, 55% of online orders were actually fulfilled at a store. \nHome Depot paid $1.8 billion in dividends in the first quarter, and also bought back $4 billion worth of shares. Starbucks\nStarbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), the ubiquitous coffeehouse chain with nearly 33,000 locations worldwide, is arguably an even more important part of people's daily lives than the previous two companies. Americans (and the rest of the world) need their caffeine fix, and Starbucks is there to deliver. \nThe business is back to registering growth in the U.S. following a huge slowdown last year. With 22.9 million active rewards members, Starbucks' top-notch loyalty program encourages repeat business. In the most recent quarter, a whopping 52% of sales at U.S. company-operated stores were from these rewards-program customers. \nYou may think there isn't much growth left for this powerful brand that already has stores basically everywhere, but think again. During the investor day presentation last December, CFO Patrick Grismer claimed that by 2030, Starbucks plans to have 55,000 outlets in 100 markets globally. The favourable unit (rhyolite) is similar and parallel to the structures hosting the “Williams 1” and “Williams 2” Gold Zones with selected drill results of <b>11.2 g/t over 2.8m, 2.1 g/t Au over 9.0m, and 1.0 g/t over 23m</b>.</p>\n<p>These trends are interpreted to be related to a major rifting in the New Brunswick Geological events and could represent a low sulphidation epithermal gold system. Along the OGT, the width of the altered horizon varies from 5 to 250 meters with an average apparent thickness of 150 meters.</p>\n<p>Numerous quartz veins, quartz veinlets, stockworks and breccias were observed mostly perpendicular to the major trend and contain the gold mineralization. The geophysical signature of the OGT is expressed over 7km. The favourable unit (rhyolite) is similar and parallel to the structures hosting the “Williams 1” and “Williams 2” Gold Zones with selected drill results of 11.2 g/t over 2.8m, 2.1 g/t Au over 9.0m, and 1.0 g/t over 23m.\nThese trends are interpreted to be related to a major rifting in the New Brunswick Geological events and could represent a low sulphidation epithermal gold system. Costco Wholesale</h2>\n<p><b>Costco Wholesale</b> (NASDAQ:COST), with its&nbsp;809 warehouses around the world, generated sales of $44.4 billion in the most recent quarter, a 21.7% jump from the prior-year period. As <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the world's largest retailers, Costco was a mission-critical business during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Consumers visited stores to shop for everything from cleaning supplies to food.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The company's operations haven't changed much over time, and they likely won't anytime soon. Even e-commerce sales, which expanded rapidly over the past&nbsp;year&nbsp;and grew 41.2%&nbsp;in the most recent quarter, are slowing down. During the month of May, online revenue rose&nbsp;just&nbsp;12.1%, signaling&nbsp;that shoppers&nbsp;are able and willing to transact more in person now.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Costco is a&nbsp;recession-proof business&nbsp;that does well in good and bad economic times, which provides the safety investors want in a forever stock. Moreover, the reliance on membership fees, of which Costco generated $901&nbsp;million&nbsp;last quarter, allows the company to keep prices very low. As of March 31, Costco had 109.8&nbsp;million&nbsp;membership cardholders.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Costco has and will continue to gain from its relentless focus to pass on savings to customers. This consumer-friendly fixation makes it difficult for rivals to compete and makes the business that much more loved by its shoppers.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>2. Home Depot</h2>\n<p><b>Home Depot</b>&nbsp;(NYSE:HD) has grown to a $331 billion business because people love to spend on their homes. Again, this facet of human nature will never change, and it was on full display over the past year. Home Depot's revenue in fiscal 2020 increased 19.9%, the fastest annual gain in at least a decade. As consumers spent more time indoors and shifted spending away from travel, entertainment, and leisure, Home Depot benefited greatly.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>And even as we slowly recover from the pandemic, the&nbsp;momentum is still strong. Same-store sales (or comps) in the most recent quarter shot&nbsp;up 31%, continuing an acceleration over the past four quarters. The housing market is on fire, supported by still historically low interest rates and rising home prices, all of which support demand for Home Depot's products.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>The company serves both do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional (Pro) customers. The former outperformed during 2020, but the latter is reemerging as a real growth driver as people require work on bigger projects and are more comfortable allowing contractors into their homes. Additionally, a seamless omnichannel approach allows customers to shop Home Depot in whatever manner they like. In the most recent quarter, 55%&nbsp;of online orders were actually fulfilled at a store.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Home Depot&nbsp;paid $1.8 billion in dividends in the first quarter, and also bought back $4 billion worth of shares. Focusing on returning excess cash to shareholders further boosts investor returns.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2>3. Costco Wholesale\nCostco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST), with its 809 warehouses around the world, generated sales of $44.4 billion in the most recent quarter, a 21.7% jump from the prior-year period. As one of the world's largest retailers, Costco was a mission-critical business during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Consumers visited stores to shop for everything from cleaning supplies to food. \nThe company's operations haven't changed much over time, and they likely won't anytime soon. Even e-commerce sales, which expanded rapidly over the past year and grew 41.2% in the most recent quarter, are slowing down. During the month of May, online revenue rose just 12.1%, signaling that shoppers are able and willing to transact more in person now. \nCostco is a recession-proof business that does well in good and bad economic times, which provides the safety investors want in a forever stock. Moreover, the reliance on membership fees, of which Costco generated $901 million last quarter, allows the company to keep prices very low. As of March 31, Costco had 109.8 million membership cardholders. \nCostco has and will continue to gain from its relentless focus to pass on savings to customers. This consumer-friendly fixation makes it difficult for rivals to compete and makes the business that much more loved by its shoppers. \n2. Home Depot\nHome Depot (NYSE:HD) has grown to a $331 billion business because people love to spend on their homes. Again, this facet of human nature will never change, and it was on full display over the past year. Home Depot's revenue in fiscal 2020 increased 19.9%, the fastest annual gain in at least a decade. As consumers spent more time indoors and shifted spending away from travel, entertainment, and leisure, Home Depot benefited greatly. \nAnd even as we slowly recover from the pandemic, the momentum is still strong. Same-store sales (or comps) in the most recent quarter shot up 31%, continuing an acceleration over the past four quarters. The housing market is on fire, supported by still historically low interest rates and rising home prices, all of which support demand for Home Depot's products. \nThe company serves both do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional (Pro) customers. The former outperformed during 2020, but the latter is reemerging as a real growth driver as people require work on bigger projects and are more comfortable allowing contractors into their homes. Additionally, a seamless omnichannel approach allows customers to shop Home Depot in whatever manner they like. In the most recent quarter, 55% of online orders were actually fulfilled at a store. \nHome Depot paid $1.8 billion in dividends in the first quarter, and also bought back $4 billion worth of shares.
