And for Baidu, it marks a further effort to diversify its business well beyond advertising.\nBaidu’s Nasdaq-traded shares jumped more than 3.5% after hours. They climbed 6.67% on Tuesday.\nBaidu’s chip company would be a subsidiary, with the search giant likely to be the majority shareholder, the person said. Venture capital firms GGV and IDG Capital are involved in early stage discussions to invest in Baidu’s chip firm, the source added. Both firms have extensive investments in China.\nBaidu declined to comment when contacted by CNBC. Ad-related revenue, which the company refers to in its earnings statements as online marketing services, accounted for around 80% of total revenue in 2018. These are the lessons you must know before you ever get involved in the stock or options market (or if you are holding a winning stock or option):</p>\n<p><b>1. Don’t sell stocks or options on products you don’t own:</b>The traders who lost the most money in GameStop and AMC were those who sold “naked” calls and puts (i.e. they sold options on stocks they didn’t own), or those who sold shares short (again, they sold shares on a stock they didn’t own). When using this extremely risky strategy, you can make a fortune if you’re right. If you’re wrong, the losses can be incalculable. In reality, some unwary traders lost tens of thousands of dollars last week on positions that cost a few thousand dollars. Once again, don’t sell anything naked unless you’re a professional, and in this case even the pros lost big on that risky bet.</p>\n<p><b>2. Sell at the “zero point.”</b>&nbsp; Here’s a rule I created: If you have huge gains that disappear and you are at the zero point (i.e. break-even), sell before you have real losses. It’s better to walk away at zero than with losses.</p>\n<p><b>3. Don’t be a stubborn seller:</b>Why is it so hard for most traders to walk away at the zero point? Stubbornness. Many traders made huge gains last week only to watch those profits disappear. They refused to sell because they hoped to make their money back. If holding options, that’s not going to happen. (If you bought at or near the high, your money is gone. If you hold a stock, plan to wait months or even years to recover. Stubborn stockholders often end up as “stuckholders.”</p>\n<p><b>4. Take the money and run:</b>When you are holding a stock or option position that brings outsized profits, either sell half of your holding or all of it — but get out. I call this “selling at extremes.” Sell something when the profits are beyond your wildest expectations. We all know the story of the gambler who wins big at the casino, but doesn’t leave the table until all his money is gone. Know when to walk away from the computer. Profits are fleeting, especially when volatility skyrockets.</p>\n<p><b>5.Trade small when making longshot trades (i.e. gambling):</b>GameStop and AMC were both big gambles, and for a time the trade worked if you were long. But if you bet wrong? I spoke to a few of these traders. One lost $8,000 on a single option contract. If he had traded his normal size (30 contracts), he told me, his losses would have been more than $240,000.</p>\n<p><b>6. Don’t expect this trading frenzy to keep happening:</b>It’s possible that a group of traders on the Reddit forum will band together for more bear- or bull raids. Except Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Fed Chair Jerome Powell are most likely creating new rules to prevent this from repeating. The Fed hates volatility and will do everything in its power to keep the markets calm. So once again, when you make big money on a trade, take the money as fast as you can — because you may not get the chance again.</p>\n<p><b>7. Stop bragging about how much money you made</b>: Many traders who won big immediately bragged on social media (and to their jealous friends) about how much money they made on this trade. Yet the euphoric feeling they had was temporary. It usually goes away after all the money is gone. The smart (and polite) traders took their gains and kept the win to themselves</p>\n<p><b>8. Use a time stop:</b>Time stops are not well-known or popular, but with fast-moving stocks (or when trading options), they are invaluable. In an extremely fast market, the traditional stop-limit order won’t get filled, as many of those meme-stock traders found out the hard way. Instead, after making a huge profit, set a day or time to sell. For example, you may sell the position by Friday no matter what (although selling at extremes is better — see Rule #4).</p>\n<p><b>9. Sell half or all of the position:</b>It’s never an easy decision to know when to sell. If you sell too early, it’s annoying to watch the stock go higher. Sell too late and you lose money. She says other shareholders are asking for a racial equity audit and for a worker representative on the board of directors, “which I think would be helpful.”</p>\n<p><b>Climate inroads</b></p>\n<p>When it comes to its climate pledge, Amazon is making some inroads. BloombergNEF said Amazon was the leading corporate buyer of clean energy in 2020, signing 35 separate clean energy power-purchasing agreements, totaling 5.1 gigawatts of power. BNEF says Amazon has now purchased over 7.5GW of clean energy to date, pushing it ahead of Alphabet GOOGL at 6.6GW and Facebook FB at 5.9GW as the world’s largest clean-energy buyer.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f08942b5eaf8d39eb7fe60ce0ba75c91\" tg-width=\"620\" tg-height=\"432\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>Garvin Jabush, chief investment officer at Green Alpha Advisors, says Amazon’s investments in renewable energy and its $440 million&nbsp;investment&nbsp;in electric-truck start up Rivian are all impressive starts, but the company has a long way to go.</p>\n<p>Green Alpha Advisors doesn’t own Amazon because Jabush says it is still a large contributor to climate risk; he noted the company saw a 15% increase in carbon dioxide&nbsp;emissions&nbsp;in 2019. It also supplies advanced computing data to the oil and gas industry to help fossil-fuel companies locate new deposits.</p>\n<p>Both Jabush and Behar says Amazon faces material risk as it deals with electronic waste and plastic waste. Behar says it is trying to work with the e-commerce giant to reduce waste, noting the company could emulate Best Buy’s&nbsp;take-back program to recycle electronic waste. This could become a sustainable money maker by recouping the copper, gold and silver in used electronic parts, he says.</p>\n<p>Reducing plastic waste is also critical since Amazon is a big user of packaging. Amazon has reduced Styrofoam usage, but “they could commit to zero plastic in two to three years from now and it would make a big difference,” he says.</p>\n<p>Jabush says it’s always a debate at his firm each year about whether to buy Amazon because it is “a phenomenal business,” but he says until it reduces its climate impact, he won’t buy it. Because of that, only a handle of ESG exchange-traded funds and mutual funds own the company.\nOutgoing CEO Jeff Bezos, the founder of the e-commerce giant, has “actually done the hard stuff, the hardest stuff being operations,” says Andrew Behar, CEO of As You Sow, a nonprofit shareholder advocacy group. “On other issues, though, he’s completely not even thinking about them.”\nBezos will retain an influential position in the company as executive chairman and one of its largest shareholders. Jassy, the new CEO, is now the head of Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud-computing business.\nInhis letter to Amazon’s workforce, Bezos tried to burnish his ESG credentials:\n“As Amazon became large, we decided to use our scale and scope to lead on important social issues. But don’t call her company a behemoth.</p>\n<p>“The word ‘behemoth.’ We are like a startup still and we still have that feel, and I never want to lose it,” she told Yahoo Finance Presents.</p>\n<p>Wood doesn’t think Ark’s soaring assets under management have impacted her drive or Ark’s culture. But the pandemic certainly has changed her typical day and the way her firm does business.</p>\n<p>“When the Coronavirus started,” she recalled, “I brought the team, everyone in the firm together, at the beginning of every day. And we're still doing that.”</p>\n<p><b>Morning Meetings</b></p>\n<p>Wood says she gets to sleep in a little longer these days since her commute is “a few feet.” She’s up at about 7:00am and begins reading research.</p>\n<p>“8:45, we bring the entire firm together and I think this has helped our cohesion as a firm, which I didn't think was possible, because I thought we were really close before,” she said. “We have an open office. Everybody can hear everything going on. So I didn't think it was possible. But I think what happened is the parts of the firm that were not involved with the investment process, were fascinated by the kinds of discussions we had. And so the whole firm has coalesced.”</p>\n<p>Eventually some of the team, moves on to other tasks.</p>\n<p>“Most people who are not in research will drop off at about 9:15am,” Wood says. “We continue til about 10:30am. And then every day, we will have between stock meetings where we do a deep dive into our portfolio tracker, which has our scoring system. That was Monday. That is always Monday.”</p>\n<p><b>Getting Outside</b></p>\n<p>After over five hours of virtual meetings, Wood tries to get some air.</p>\n<p>“I need to go out and walk,” she says. “I'll sometimes do them on video, if they want to watch me walking around. But for the afternoon. And those will be business. They will be company management, they will be analysts, they will be business opportunities.”</p>\n<p>Even as the firm has grown, she is trying to keep her time laser focused on the investing side of Ark.</p>\n<p>“I would say 80% is on investing,” she says. “And because I am our Chief Investment Officer, it is my core competency. And I've delegated the management of the firm to other very capable people.”</p>\n<p>“We're growing right now, including people to go out and represent me,” she added. “So I've gotten used to this. I think my productivity has skyrocketed here. And I think our investing has gotten better because we can pounce on every opportunity, in real time, as we’re Zooming with each other.”</p>\n<p><b>Earnings Season</b></p>\n<p>While Ark has a team of analysts, Cathie Wood still loves to dig into earnings season.</p>\n<p>“Sometimes we'll have 10, 20, sometimes 30 companies reporting. And what I will do is I'll say, ‘Okay’ to the aftermarket team. ‘Which are getting hurt the most, that's where I'll spend my time.’ And I will go on too and I'll toggle among the conference calls, and listen, particularly to the Q&amp;A. Listen to what's bothering other analysts out there. Remember, I told you we like to see the other side of the story. Listen to what's bothering to them. And think, ‘Have we integrated that risk? Or does that matter to us?’ And usually it doesn't.”</p>\n<p>If you couldn’t tell from her 2018 call on Tesla(TSLA)to go to $4,000 in five years, Wood likes being on the opposite side of many in the analyst community.</p>\n<p>“They're worried about the 30 basis points and operating margin miss,” she says. “We don't care about that, because that's this quarter.</p>\n<p>“We've got our eyes on the prize. It's a five year time horizon. And actually a margin miss is actually for us a good thing. Because what does it usually mean? It means a company has decided to invest aggressively now to capitalize on this opportunity. And we think that's the right thing to do. With tens of billions of dollars flowing into her thematic ETFs and returns that easily surpassed 100% last year, Cathie Wood has gone from being a relatively unknown investor to one of the world’s best known money managers.Ark even took the mantle for largest active ETF from JP Morgan last year. But don’t call her company a behemoth.\n“The word ‘behemoth.’ We are like a startup still and we still have that feel, and I never want to lose it,” she told Yahoo Finance Presents.\nWood doesn’t think Ark’s soaring assets under management have impacted her drive or Ark’s culture. But the pandemic certainly has changed her typical day and the way her firm does business.\n“When the Coronavirus started,” she recalled, “I brought the team, everyone in the firm together, at the beginning of every day. And we're still doing that.”\nMorning Meetings\nWood says she gets to sleep in a little longer these days since her commute is “a few feet.” She’s up at about 7:00am and begins reading research.\n“8:45, we bring the entire firm together and I think this has helped our cohesion as a firm, which I didn't think was possible, because I thought we were really close before,” she said. “We have an open office. Everybody can hear everything going on. So I didn't think it was possible. But I think what happened is the parts of the firm that were not involved with the investment process, were fascinated by the kinds of discussions we had. And so the whole firm has coalesced.”\nEventually some of the team, moves on to other tasks.\n“Most people who are not in research will drop off at about 9:15am,” Wood says. “We continue til about 10:30am. And then every day, we will have between stock meetings where we do a deep dive into our portfolio tracker, which has our scoring system. That was Monday. That is always Monday.”\nGetting Outside\nAfter over five hours of virtual meetings, Wood tries to get some air.\n“I need to go out and walk,” she says. “I'll sometimes do them on video, if they want to watch me walking around. But for the afternoon. And those will be business. They will be company management, they will be analysts, they will be business opportunities.”\nEven as the firm has grown, she is trying to keep her time laser focused on the investing side of Ark.\n“I would say 80% is on investing,” she says. “And because I am our Chief Investment Officer, it is my core competency. And I've delegated the management of the firm to other very capable people.”\n“We're growing right now, including people to go out and represent me,” she added. “So I've gotten used to this. I think my productivity has skyrocketed here. And I think our investing has gotten better because we can pounce on every opportunity, in real time, as we’re Zooming with each other.”\nEarnings Season\nWhile Ark has a team of analysts, Cathie Wood still loves to dig into earnings season.\n“Sometimes we'll have 10, 20, sometimes 30 companies reporting. And what I will do is I'll say, ‘Okay’ to the aftermarket team. ‘Which are getting hurt the most, that's where I'll spend my time.’ And I will go on too and I'll toggle among the conference calls, and listen, particularly to the Q&A. Listen to what's bothering other analysts out there. Remember, I told you we like to see the other side of the story. Listen to what's bothering to them. And think, ‘Have we integrated that risk? Or does that matter to us?’ And usually it doesn't.”\nIf you couldn’t tell from her 2018 call on Tesla(TSLA)to go to $4,000 in five years, Wood likes being on the opposite side of many in the analyst community.\n“They're worried about the 30 basis points and operating margin miss,” she says. “We don't care about that, because that's this quarter.\n“We've got our eyes on the prize. It's a five year time horizon. And actually a margin miss is actually for us a good thing. Because what does it usually mean? It means a company has decided to invest aggressively now to capitalize on this opportunity. And we think that's the right thing to do.
