Let's explore the reasons I pulled the trigger on the sales.","content":"

Rising inflation and higher interest rates have crushed many high-growth tech stocks over the past few months. The reasons are simple: Inflation reduces the value of a company's future revenue and earnings, while higher interest rates boost borrowing costs for unprofitable companies.

Like many investors, I reduced my exposure to that shift by selling some of my higher-growth tech stocks and rotating toward more conservative investments. Specifically, I took profits from my investments in Snap (NYSE:SNAP) and Palantir (NYSE:PLTR), but I took a net loss on Bumble (NASDAQ:BMBL).

Investors should do their own due diligence instead of following my example, but let me explain my logic for selling these three high-growth tech stocks.

1. Snap

Snap was once my favorite social media stock. It generated robust growth in daily active users and revenue, it remained a top app for teen users, and its profitability was gradually improving.

But over the past year, several red flags appeared. It vastly underestimated the impact of Apple's privacy update on iOS, set unrealistic growth targets at its investor day last February, and failed to outshine ByteDance's TikTok with Spotlight's short videos.

Snap's third-quarter numbers and fourth-quarter guidance last October strongly suggested it couldn't achieve its investor day target for 50% annual revenue growth over the next few years. But Snap didn't withdraw that guidance -- even after directly being questioned about it during its conference call -- and said it could retool its ads to overcome Apple's iOS changes.

Over the past three months, Snap's insiders still sold 22 times as many shares as they bought -- even as the stock price dropped more than 50%. That lack of confidence indicates its iOS headaches won't end anytime soon.

Snap might seem reasonably valued now at 10 times next year's sales, especially if it meets analysts' estimates for 60% revenue growth in 2021 and 38% growth in 2022. Unfortunately, I think Snap could continue to struggle over the next few quarters and ultimately withdraw its 50% revenue growth guidance. When that happens, the stock will likely plummet to new lows.

2. Palantir

Palantir, the data analytics firm which serves the U.S. government and large enterprise customers, also has ambitious growth plans. It believes it can generate at least 30% annual revenue growth from 2021 to 2025.

At first glance, Palantir seems like a solid investment. The U.S. Army reportedly used its Gotham platform to hunt down Osama Bin Laden in 2011. That battle-hardened reputation enables it to promote its enterprise-facing Foundry platform to large companies. Its ability to gather data from disparate sources can help government agencies and companies make better data-driven decisions to streamline their operations.

But Palantir also has some glaring problems. It's deeply unprofitable but still trades at 15 times next year's sales, which leaves it highly exposed to rising inflation and higher interest rates. It's also constantly diluting its shares with big stock bonuses -- in the first nine months of 2021, its number of weighted-average shares jumped 165% year over year.

The growth of Gotham is also decelerating as the U.S. government quietly develops in-house alternatives. Enterprise customers could also gravitate toward other analytics services, such as Alteryx or Splunk, instead of its Foundry platform.

Instead of sticking with this speculative and unprofitable company, it might be smarter for investors to rotate back toward firmly profitable blue-chip tech stocks which will benefit from the same data-mining tailwinds.

3. Bumble

After defending Bumble for nearly a year, I finally realized that the online dating company's weaknesses outweighed its strengths. The growth of Bumble's namesake app, which lets women make the first move, is decelerating. Its secondary app, Badoo, continues to lose paid users.

Last quarter, Bumble's total number of paid users across both apps grew 20% year over year to 1.53 million, but that marked a deceleration from its 36% growth in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, Match Group's (NASDAQ:MTCH) total number of paying users, 64% of whom use Tinder, increased 16% year over year to 16.3 million in its latest quarter. The company actually accelerated from its 15% growth in the previous quarter.

Bumble also remains unprofitable, and it's shouldering more than twice as much debt as its total cash and equivalents. At the same time, it's pursuing scattershot strategies -- including opening a restaurant in New York City, selling branded apparel and products through an online store, and rebooting its BFF feature (for platonic friendships) as a vaguely defined metaverse platform.

Those plans probably won't widen Bumble's moat against Match's portfolio of over a dozen dating apps. After listening to its latest conference call, it became painfully clear that Bumble overestimated its own brand appeal while underestimating the competition.

Bumble expects its revenue to grow 31% to 32% this fiscal year, but that's only a bit faster than Match's projected revenue growth rate of 25%. Bumble's stock might seem reasonably valued at six times next year's sales, but it probably won't command a higher premium until it stabilizes its user growth and significantly narrows its net losses. Until that happens, Match will probably be the better overall investment.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why I Sold These 3 High-Growth Tech Stocks
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy I Sold These 3 High-Growth Tech Stocks\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-22 07:38 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Rising inflation and higher interest rates have crushed many high-growth tech stocks over the past few months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a gain of about 9 points after being up more than 100 points earlier in the session, closing at 34,292.29. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added about 0.2% for its own record of 14,528.33.\nHomebuilder stocks moved higher after S&P Case-Shiller saidhome prices rose more than 14% in Aprilcompared to the prior year. Five U.S. cities, including Seattle, saw their largest annual increase on record. Shares of PulteGroup rose 2%.\nSemiconductor stocks gained strength later in the session, with Skyworks and Advanced Micro Devices climbing 4.5% and 2.8%, respectively. General Electric boosted the industrials sector, rising over 1% afterGoldman Sachs named the stock a top idea.\nThe market has churned out a series of record highs in recent weeks, but the gains have been relatively modest and some strategists have pointed to weak market breadth, measured by the performance of the average stock and the number of individual names making new highs, as a potential area of concern.\nOn Tuesday, there were slightly more declining stocks in the S&P 500 than those that rose during the session.\nHowever, the diminished breadth and volatility could simply be a natural pause during the summer months ahead of the busy earnings season in July, said Bill McMahon, the chief investment officer for active equity strategies at Charles Schwab Investment Management.\n\"I think people are in a little bit of a wait-and-see mode, so it's not surprising to see volatility decline and breadth worsen a tad,\" McMahon said, adding that concern about the spreading Delta variant of Covid-19 could also be weighing on stocks.\nShares of Morgan Stanley jumped more than 3% after the bank said it willdouble its quarterly dividend. The bank also announced a $12 billion stock buyback program. The announcement follows last week's stress tests by the Federal Reserve, which all 23 major banks passed. However, some other bank stocks gave up early gains and weighed on the broader indexes despite increasing their own payout plans.\nThe Conference Board's consumer confidence reading for June came in higher than expected, adding to the bullish readings about the economic recovery.\nWith the market entering the final trading days of June and the second quarter, the S&P 500 is on track to register its fifth straight month of gains. The Nasdaq is pacing for its seventh positive month in the last eight. The Dow, however, is in the red for the month, and on track to snap a four-month winning streak.\nSo far in 2021, the S&P 500 has added 14%, while the Nasdaq has added more than 12% with the Dow close behind.\nJPMorgan quantitative strategist Dubravkos Lakos-Bujas said on CNBC's \"Squawk Box\" that the market appeared to have near-term upside.\n\"The growth policy backdrop in our opinion still remains supportive for risk assets in general, certainly including equities. The S&P 500 declined 0.4% to 4,192.85 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1% to 13,614.51.The benchmark S&P 500 sits about 1% from its all-time high reached earlier last month, but it has been stuck around these levels for about the last two weeks. The S&P 500 is up more than 11% this year so far.Merck and Dow Inc. were the two best performers in the 30-stock benchmark, both rising more than 2%. Consumer staples and utilities were the biggest gainers among 11 S&P 500 sectors, while consumer discretionary and tech weighed on the broader market, falling 1.2% and 0.9%, respectively.Shares of General Motors climbed nearly 6.4% after the company said it expects its results for the first half of 2021 to be “significantly better” than its prior guidance. On the data front, private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since June 2020. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.Meanwhile,first-time claims for unemployment benefitsfor the week ended May 29 totaled 385,000, versus a Dow Jones estimate of 393,000. It also marked the first time that jobless claims fell below 400,000 since the early days of the pandemic.“With ADP knocking it out of the park, and jobless claims breaking that 400k barrier—a pandemic low—all eyes will be on the larger jobs picture tomorrow,” said Mike Loewengart, a managing director at E-Trade. “With seemingly all systems go on the jobs front, the economy is flashing some very real signs that this isn’t just a comeback—expansion mode could be on the horizon.”The market may be on hold before the release of the jobs report Friday, which is likely to show an additional 671,000 nonfarm payrolls in May, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The economy added 266,000 jobs in April.Investors continued to monitor the wild action in meme stocks, particularly theater chain AMC Entertainment. The stock tumbled as much as 30% after practically doubling in the prior session, but shares cut losses after movie theater chain said it completed a stock offering launched just hours ago, raising $587 million. The stock ended the day about 18% lower.Other meme stocks also came under pressure Thursday. Bed Bath & Beyond fell more than 27%. The SoFi Social 50 ETF (SFYF), which tracks the top 50 most widely held U.S. listed stocks on SoFi’s retail brokerage platform, tumbled more than 6%.Reminiscent of what occurred earlier this year, retail traders rallying together on Reddit triggered a short squeeze in AMC earlier this week. On Wednesday, short-sellers betting against the stock lost $2.8 billion as the shares surged, according to S3 Partners. That brings their year-to-date losses to more than $5 billion, according to S3. Short sellers are forced to buy back the stock to cut their losses when it keeps rallying like this. The meme stock bubble in GameStop earlier this year weighed on the market a bit as investors worried it meant too much speculative activity was in the stock market. As losses in hedge funds betting against the stock mounted, worries increased about a pullback in risk-taking across Wall Street that could hit the overall market. AMC’s latest surge did not appear to be causing similar concerns so far. Here are company's financial statementsSlack tops Q1 expectations, ends quarter with 169,000 total paid customersLululemon first-quarter sales rise 88%, topping estimates, as store traffic reboundsCrowdStrike stock rises as earnings, outlook top Street viewDocuSign stock pops on earnings, outlook beat","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":124,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":354341656,"gmtCreate":1617147722175,"gmtModify":1704696344351,"author":{"id":"3575929769091766","authorId":"3575929769091766","name":"newtoUS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9b8dfb089132dd6830b3d50bd9ba1db2","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575929769091766","authorIdStr":"3575929769091766"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like","listText":"Comment and like","text":"Comment and like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/354341656","repostId":"1163996400","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163996400","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617094880,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1163996400?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-30 17:01","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Coursera: The Education Disruptor Goes Public","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163996400","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"SummaryThe company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic","content":"
Summary

The company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is operating in a huge addressable market that is likely to grow for the foreseeable future.

Coursera enjoys many competitive advantages, among them a large, existing user base, price-to-cost advantages, and the ability to personalize content as a result of its trove of data.

Given its scale, and competitive advantages, the company should win an outsized share of its market opportunity.

However, because the company has not turned a profit, there is a chance that its stock may be too volatile in the near term. The Mountain View, California-based company offers individuals access to over 4,000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from 200 educational institutions and corporations. The company also offers over two dozen degree programs at prices lower than what a learner would pay at a traditional, in-person institution. As the company grows its offering, it will be able to compete head-to-head with other “online program management” (OPM) providers, such as 2U(NASDAQ:TWOU), which is already publicly traded, and Noodle Partners.

Ng’sshareholder letter in the S-1articulated clearly just what the company is about:

“We believe that education is the source of human progress. In today’s economy in which the skills needed to succeed are rapidly evolving, education is becoming more important than ever. As automation and digital disruption are poised to replace unprecedented numbers of jobs worldwide, giving workers the opportunity to upskill and reskill will be crucial to raising global living standards and increasing social equity. Online education will play a critical role, enabling anyone, anywhere, to gain the valuable skills they need to earn a living in an increasingly digital economy.”

The filing lists Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as underwriters. The number of shares and the price range of the proposed offering are yet to be determined.According to PitchBook data, Coursera’s most recent valuation in the private markets was $2.5 billion. To date, the company has raised $464 million in venture capital, most recently,$130 million in a Series F roundlast July. Coursera’s biggest institutional shareholders are New Enterprise Associates (18.3% of company stock), G Squared (15.9%) and Kleiner Perkins (9.2%).

Operating Results

The company earned $293 million in revenues for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020, up 59% from 2019. Net losses widened by about $20 million year-on-year, reaching $66.8 million in 2020. Revenues shot up as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic’s effect on traditional education. In tandem with rising demand, operating costs associated with the company’s services rose, largely driven by the freemium content and marketing expenses. Coursera added over 12,000 new degree learners across the two years ended December 31, 2020 at an average acquisition cost of just below $2,000. The number of registered users rose by 65% year-on-year in 2020. Coursera’s accumulated deficit since its founding stood at $343.6 million as of December 31, 2020. The company does not expect to turn a profit in the foreseeable future.

The company’sCoursera for Campus, launched in late 2019to enable colleges to offer its library of MOOCs to their students, has been a key driver of recent revenue growth. At the start of the pandemic, Coursera made the program free to tertiary institutions until Sept. 30, 2020. Over 4,000 tertiary institutions from across the world signed up for the program, which, according to the company’s S-1 filing, makes it, “one of our fastest growing offerings”. As of December 31, 2020, over 130 tertiary institutions were paying for it.

At this point, it is hard to predict what the end of the pandemic would have on the company’s operating results.

The Strategy and Market Opportunity

Coursera is one of the most disruptive firms in the world. It has a flywheel approach to value creation, with significant price-to-cost advantages versus its competition. The company reported that about half of its new degree students in 2020 had been previously registered with Coursera and that its average student acquisition cost was less than $2,000. Its average student acquisition cost is lower than the industry standard. The edu-tech platform is able to efficiently acquire learners at scale because of the huge number of free, high-quality courses that it offers in partnership with top educational institutions and corporations; its ability to personalize content based on its wealth of data; the strength of word-of-mouth promotion by learners; the profitability of its affiliate paid marketing channel.

The platform offers a number of education tracks, for example:

Specializations: A learner can pay between $39 and $99 a month for job-specific content across over 500 categories.

MasterTrack Certificates: For a quarter to a year, a learner can earn a certificate issued by a university-issued certificate. Prices range from $2,000 to $6,000.

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degrees: Fees range from $9,000 to $45,000.

Coursera for Enterprise: Through this platform, businesses, educational institutions and governments can deploy content to their learners.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coursera partnered with over 330 government agencies across 30 U.S. states and cities and 70 countries as part of itsCoursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, which gave governments the chance to offer unemployed workers free access to thousands of business, data science, and technology courses from companies such as Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN)and Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL).

The company has 77 million registered learners, as well as over 2,000 businesses (including 25% of Fortune 500 companies) and 100 government agencies who paid for its enterprise offerings. The majority of its revenue (51%) was earned outside of the United States. Converting only a fraction of its 77 million registered users into paid users would change the economics of customer acquisition. The company’s present scale is a huge competitive advantage in the market.

A learner’s curriculum is designed to be “stackable”, which is to say that a learner can go through a domain in an incremental fashion. The company is able to leverage the huge volume of data it has accumulated from its over 220 million enrollments to personalize content. So, for example, Coursera’s Skills Graphs can suggest paths for job skills.

Coursera uses technology to drive down distribution costs, make content more affordable, extend access to less economically-endowed regions, help learners keep abreast of emerging skills, and grow its market opportunity. The Covid-19 pandemic has only accelerated secular trends towards the use of technology in education.

The size of the addressable market is massive and it’s easy to see why.An August 2020 study by the United Nationsdemonstrates the degree of disruption brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic: of the 1.6 billion students in 190 countries covered in the report, or 94% of the world’s students, were prevented from going to school because of Covid-19 pandemic related school closures.

In 2017, the World Bank indicated thatof the 200 million college students in the world, many do not have job-specific skills.

The Covid-19 pandemic and prior secular trends suggest that the future of education is in blended classrooms, job-specific education and continuous, lifelong education. Online learning platforms like Coursera will be the primary means through which educational content is delivered.

Globally, spending on higher education in 2019 was $2.2 trillion, according to HolonIQ. Spending on online degrees was $36 billion and is predicted to reach $74 billion by 2025.

With a huge, existing learner base; a strong brand; and the significant advantages detailed above, Coursera is likely to grab a significant amount of the market’s growth. Of thescenarios for the future of education, it seems that Coursera will continue to grow.

Conclusion

Coursera seems poised to meet the challenges of a changing education landscape. With its vast, existing user base, its flywheel model, its competitive advantages, and its existence in a huge and growing addressable market, the company is likely to do very well. The company’s value proposition is compelling. However, long run success does not equate to a good investment in the short run. An unprofitable company like Coursera is likely to be very volatile on the markets until it reaches profitability. It is better to wait for Coursera to turn a profit before investing in the company.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Coursera: The Education Disruptor Goes Public
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nCoursera: The Education Disruptor Goes Public\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-30 17:01 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryThe company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic. It is operating in a huge addressable market that is likely to grow for the foreseeable future.C...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7cedd6cbf23bbe97eaec389fb0773ed6","relate_stocks":{"COUR":"Coursera, Inc."},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4413745-coursera-education-disruptor-goes-public","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1163996400","content_text":"SummaryThe company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic. It is operating in a huge addressable market that is likely to grow for the foreseeable future.Coursera enjoys many competitive advantages, among them a large, existing user base, price-to-cost advantages, and the ability to personalize content as a result of its trove of data.Given its scale, and competitive advantages, the company should win an outsized share of its market opportunity. However, because the company has not turned a profit, there is a chance that its stock may be too volatile in the near term. Coursera’s biggest institutional shareholders are New Enterprise Associates (18.3% of company stock), G Squared (15.9%) and Kleiner Perkins (9.2%).Operating ResultsThe company earned $293 million in revenues for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020, up 59% from 2019. As of December 31, 2020, over 130 tertiary institutions were paying for it.At this point, it is hard to predict what the end of the pandemic would have on the company’s operating results. The Strategy and Market OpportunityCoursera is one of the most disruptive firms in the world. The platform offers a number of education tracks, for example:Specializations: A learner can pay between $39 and $99 a month for job-specific content across over 500 categories.MasterTrack Certificates: For a quarter to a year, a learner can earn a certificate issued by a university-issued certificate. Prices range from $2,000 to $6,000.Bachelor’s or Master’s Degrees: Fees range from $9,000 to $45,000.Coursera for Enterprise: Through this platform, businesses, educational institutions and governments can deploy content to their learners. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coursera partnered with over 330 government agencies across 30 U.S. states and cities and 70 countries as part of itsCoursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, which gave governments the chance to offer unemployed workers free access to thousands of business, data science, and technology courses from companies such as Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN)and Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL).The company has 77 million registered learners, as well as over 2,000 businesses (including 25% of Fortune 500 companies) and 100 government agencies who paid for its enterprise offerings. The majority of its revenue (51%) was earned outside of the United States. Converting only a fraction of its 77 million registered users into paid users would change the economics of customer acquisition. The company’s present scale is a huge competitive advantage in the market.A learner’s curriculum is designed to be “stackable”, which is to say that a learner can go through a domain in an incremental fashion. The company is able to leverage the huge volume of data it has accumulated from its over 220 million enrollments to personalize content. So, for example, Coursera’s Skills Graphs can suggest paths for job skills.Coursera uses technology to drive down distribution costs, make content more affordable, extend access to less economically-endowed regions, help learners keep abreast of emerging skills, and grow its market opportunity. Online learning platforms like Coursera will be the primary means through which educational content is delivered.Globally, spending on higher education in 2019 was $2.2 trillion, according to HolonIQ. Spending on online degrees was $36 billion and is predicted to reach $74 billion by 2025.With a huge, existing learner base; a strong brand; and the significant advantages detailed above, Coursera is likely to grab a significant amount of the market’s growth. Of thescenarios for the future of education, it seems that Coursera will continue to grow.ConclusionCoursera seems poised to meet the challenges of a changing education landscape. It is better to wait for Coursera to turn a profit before investing in the company.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":52,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":263852182847672,"gmtCreate":1705452878531,"gmtModify":1705480126763,"author":{"id":"3575929769091766","authorId":"3575929769091766","name":"newtoUS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9b8dfb089132dd6830b3d50bd9ba1db2","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575929769091766","authorIdStr":"3575929769091766"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Speechless] [Cry] [Duh] [Grin] [Spurting] [Grin] [Spurting] ","listText":"[Speechless] [Cry] [Duh] [Grin] [Spurting] [Grin] [Spurting] ","text":"[Speechless] [Cry] [Duh] [Grin] [Spurting] [Grin] [Spurting]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/263852182847672","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":45,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9090139470,"gmtCreate":1643110411869,"gmtModify":1676533774893,"author":{"id":"3575929769091766","authorId":"3575929769091766","name":"newtoUS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9b8dfb089132dd6830b3d50bd9ba1db2","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575929769091766","authorIdStr":"3575929769091766"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9090139470","repostId":"2206357958","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2206357958","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1643109407,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2206357958?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-25 19:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"4 Stocks Begging to Be Bought During the January Sell-Off","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2206357958","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"A stock market correction is the perfect opportunity to pick up these high-quality stocks at a discount.","content":"

You may not realize it, but investors have witnessed history over the past two years. They've navigated their way through the quickest 30% drawdown in the benchmark S&P 500 on record (it took less than five weeks), and have reveled in the strongest bounce back of all time. The S&P 500 doubled from its pandemic lows in under 17 months.

However, stock market crashes, corrections, and sell-offs are a normal part of the investing cycle, and what can arguably be described as the price of admission to one of the greatest wealth creators on the planet. Since the year began, a number of U.S indexes have sold off. It's been especially noticeable for the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite, which has declined by 8.3%, through Jan. 19.

While short-term market sell-offs can be unnerving, they're also a great opportunity to buy high-quality stocks at a discount. With the January sell-off well underway, the following four stocks are begging to be bought.

Zoom Video Communications

With inflation soaring and the Federal Reserve expected to hike interest rate numerous times this year, growth stocks with high premiums have been heavily sold over the past 11 months. Cloud-based Web-conferencing company Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) is one such stock that's been clobbered, but now looks like a fantastic value.

The argument against buying shares of Zoom is that it's a beneficiary of the pandemic that'll see its growth fade once the pandemic winds down. While it is true that the company's blazing sales growth of 2020 wasn't repeatable in 2021, its industry-leading conferencing solutions are now embedded in everyday workflow. If and when the traditional work environment returns, Zoom's solutions are expected to continue playing a big role in keeping projects on track and facilitating meetings.

Zoom Video Communications has done a particularly enviable job of reaching small-and-medium-sized businesses. In the company's October-ended quarter, it had more than a half-million customers with 10 or more employees, and saw the number of subscribers contributing at least $100,000 in trailing-12-month revenue nearly double to 2,507 from the prior-year period.

As a result of the aggressive retracement in its share price, Zoom can now be purchased for around 10 times sales and 36 times Wall Street's consensus earnings forecast for fiscal 2023. With the company's price-to-earnings-growth ratio (PEG ratio) back below 2, it looks like a genuine bargain for patient investors.

Western Digital

For you value stock investors, data storage solutions company Western Digital (NASDAQ:WDC) is begging to be bought during the January sell-off.

The key issue that pessimists will almost always touch on when it comes to Western Digital is the penchant for the data storage industry to oversupply the market when their pricing power improves. This fear of oversupply often places a low ceiling on forward-year price-to-earnings ratios.

However, Western Digital and its peers are highly unlikely to encounter these problems in 2022, and possibly even 2023, due to supply chain issues tied to the coronavirus pandemic. The end result for the industry should be strong pricing power and continued high demand.

The company has both short-and-long-term catalysts currently working its favor. The rollout of new gaming consoles in late 2020 has lifted demand for data storage in the short run. Meanwhile, businesses of all sizes shifting their data into the cloud represents a sustainable demand opportunity for Western Digital in data centers. By mid-decade, it wouldn't at all be surprising if the company's nimbler NAND flash solutions became commonplace in data centers.

Even taking into account the data storage industry's history of oversupplying devices when pricing power improves, a forward price-to-earnings ratio of less than 7 is too inexpensive for Western Digital.

NextEra Energy

Another no-brainer stock that's begging to be bought is leading electric utility NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE).

After watching growth stocks skyrocket for more than a decade, the idea of buying an electric utility stock probably sounds boring. The thing is, NextEra isn't like your average utility company. It's generated a positive total return for its shareholders in 19 of the past 20 years, and galloped higher by more than 1,000%, including dividends paid, since the Great Recession bottom in March 2009. That's a better return than a lot of high-growth tech stocks.

NextEra's secret sauce is its focus on renewable energy. No electric utility in the country comes close to generating as much capacity as NextEra does from solar and wind projects. And with the company spending up to an aggregate of $55 billion between 2020 and 2022 on new infrastructure projects, it's unlikely to be dethroned as America's green-energy leader anytime soon.

Even though renewable energy projects are costly, NextEra has been able to finance them at historically low lending rates. What's more, lower electricity generation costs have helped lift its compound annual earnings growth rate to the high single digits for more than a decade. This compares to a low single digit growth rate for the utility sector.

With a long history of profits in its sails, NextEra is a fantastic buy on any significant pullback.

Block

Lastly, fintech stock Block (NYSE:SQ), the company formerly known as Square, is begging to bought during the January sell-off.

Similar to Zoom, Block has been obliterated recently as Wall Street weighs the company's growth prospects and valuation premium in a rising-rate environment. But as financial services increasingly shift to digital platforms, Wall Street is going to realize that Block is worth every bit the premium it's been bestowed.

For over a decade, Block has relied on its seller ecosystem to be its foundational operating segment. This is the segment that provides everything from point-of-sale solutions to loans and analytics to businesses. In 2012, $6.5 billion in gross payment volume (GPV) was registered via the seller ecosystem. But based on the $41.7 billion in GPV recorded in the third quarter of 2021, Block is pacing an annual run-rate of closer to $167 billion in GPV.

Best of all, a lot of the company's GPV growth is now originating from larger businesses with at least $125,000 in annualized GPV. Since the seller ecosystem is predominantly dependent on merchant fees, bigger business should help Block become more profitable.

Looking ahead, it's all about digital peer-to-peer payment platform Cash App, which saw its monthly active user count more than quintuple to 36 million in the three-year period ended Dec. 31, 2020. According to Block, the average monthly transacting user on Cash App is generating $55 in gross profit, which compares to only around $5 in costs to attract each new user. Cash App is Block's golden ticket to sustainably fast growth and delectable margins.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
4 Stocks Begging to Be Bought During the January Sell-Off
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n4 Stocks Begging to Be Bought During the January Sell-Off\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-25 19:16 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
You may not realize it, but investors have witnessed history over the past two years. Though 2022 has been a year to forget for most investors, savvy investors know that bear markets present buying opportunities. So this could be a great time to put some extra money or end-of-the-year bonuses to work.

Let's take a look at three stocks that look set to bounce back in 2023.

1. A recession-proof travel stock?

Airbnb has disrupted the travel sector by making an industry out of home-sharing, and the company dominates that segment of the travel industry with an estimated 74% market share.

Airbnb, after all, is a verb and noun, and it's come to mean any type of home-share, even if it's not an Airbnb listing.

In 2022, the business has boomed as travel has recovered and Covid restrictions have come down. In its most recent quarter, revenue jumped 29% to $2.9 billion, and GAAP net income soared 46% to $1.2 billion as margins benefited from the seasonal peak of the travel season.

Despite that performance, the stock has lagged throughout the year, down 43% year to date.

Investors seem to fear a coming recession and believe that Airbnb stock may be overvalued even with its strong growth rate. However, the company is better positioned than its travel peers. In fact, Airbnb was born during the peak of the financial crisis.

The company's business model is highly flexible compared to traditional hotel chains, and its inventory shifts according to economic demand. For example, management said that single-room listings increased 31% in the third quarter as people around the world looked for a way to cope with high inflation. That growth in inventory will help the company over the long term and ensure that it will be able to offer affordable places for travelers to stay. Often, a single-room listing will beat the price of a competing hotel room, making Airbnb a good option for budget travelers.

If the company can continue to grow and gain market share through the potential recession, it will emerge even better equipped to take advantage of the opportunity in travel and experiences valued at well over $1 trillion.

2. A shaken search giant

Like Airbnb, Alphabet is another top dog that's taken a dive this year.

Shares of the Google parent have tumbled as growth has dramatically slowed following its own pandemic boom. Revenue increased just 6% in its most recent quarter as macroeconomic headwinds caught up with the advertising industry.

The company doesn't see any new competition in its industry. In fact, advertising demand seems to be shifting from social to search because of Apple's ad-targeting restrictions, and Alphabet's ad revenue outgrew rival Meta, the Facebook parent, in the third quarter.

Advertising is often one of the first expenses to get cut when businesses fear a recession as they expect consumers to cut back on spending and look to trim their own budgets. But advertising is cyclical. It will recover once the economy begins to expand again.

Alphabet has been through this cycle twice before, in the financial crisis and during the pandemic, and both times it's made a robust recovery. There's no reason to expect anything different this time around. Once the business starts to accelerate, its current price-to-earnings ratio of 19 is likely to look like a bargain.

3. A tech giant with fixable problems

Amazon is facing challenges at every turn, it seems. So far this year, its growth rate has shrunk to just single digits, the company has shuttered once-promising concepts like Amazon Care, it's canceled or closed dozens of warehouses, and it just announced plans to lay off roughly 10,000 corporate workers. Now, even Amazon's once-impeccable customer satisfaction scores are slipping.

As a result, the stock is down 45% year to date and has now given back roughly all of its pandemic-era gains when the e-commerce business was booming, and it was posting record profits.

Despite those challenges, Amazon has the means to get back on track, and its competitive advantages like Prime membership, fast delivery, its third-party marketplace, and others are just as strong as they were a year ago.

Amazon made errors, including overestimating the trajectory of e-commerce demand coming out of the pandemic. But taking steps to control costs, such as laying off employees, closing warehouses, and pulling back spending on unprofitable items like Amazon Care and Alexa, will show up on the bottom line.

Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services remains a profit machine, on track for close to $25 billion in operating income this year. Its e-commerce business should get back to profitability as it rebalances costs and benefits from a high-margin advertising business that is approaching $40 billion in annual revenue.

On a price-to-sales basis, the stock is as cheap as it's been in eight years before investors were aware of AWS's potential. While its growth rate may slow down now that annual revenue is set to top $500 billion, the company still has a lot of room to ramp up profits. With the cost-cutting moves it's making now, it should see a sharp improvement on the bottom line in 2023.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks You'll Be Thankful to Own in 2023
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks You'll Be Thankful to Own in 2023\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-25 16:01 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Turkey day is here, and that means that 2023 isn't far around the corner. While you're celebrating the holidays with friends and family, it's also a good time of year to get your financial house in ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"ABNB":"爱彼迎","GOOG":"谷歌","AMZN":"亚马逊","GOOGL":"谷歌A"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/11/24/3-stocks-youll-be-thankful-to-own-in-2023/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2285389313","content_text":"Turkey day is here, and that means that 2023 isn't far around the corner. While you're celebrating the holidays with friends and family, it's also a good time of year to get your financial house in order.
