That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.
\n
However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.
\n
AMC Entertainment
\n
AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.
\n
The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.
\n
But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.
\n
However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Clover Health Investments
\n
Only a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.
\n
Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.
\n
Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.
\n
Sundial Growers
\n
At one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.
\n
Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.
\n
There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.
\n
Sundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.
\n
However, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. The company can't afford any additional dilution without having to resort to desperate measures to keep its listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-19 09:13 GMT+8 fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year. The market expects that its revenue and profit will continue to grow. Investors are concerned about the execution quality and profit margin elasticity of power transmission and distribution, commercial and industrial projects.
Market Forecast
The consensus market expectation is that MYR Group will have revenue of $996 million in the quarter, up 19.08% year-over-year; Expected adjusted EPS of $2.56, up 68.77% year-over-year; EBIT is expected to be $56.06 million, up 56.46% year-over-year. In terms of main business structure, in the last quarter, the income of transmission and distribution business was USD 541 million, accounting for 54.08%, and the income of commercial and industrial business was USD 459 million, accounting for 45.92%. The company's orders and projects in hand cover the North American power grid upgrading and public utility capital expenditure cycle. Among the company's existing businesses, the transmission and distribution segment is driven by the demand of North American power grid investment and renewable energy grid connection, with large scale and higher demand certainty, and is the existing business with the biggest development prospect.
Last Quarter Review
In the last quarter, MYR Group achieved revenue of US$1.00 billion, up 20.00% year-on-year; Gross profit margin 13.44%; The net profit attributable to the parent was US$46.80 million, with a net profit margin of 4.68%; Adjusted earnings of $2.99 per share increased by 106.21% year over year. The company's profit in the last quarter exceeded market expectations, project execution and cost control drove the increase of profit margin, and the order structure tilted to high gross profit projects. In terms of business, the transmission and distribution revenue was USD 541 million, a year-on-year increase, and the commercial and industrial revenue was USD 459 million, a year-on-year increase. The transmission and distribution sector was driven by the hardening of power grid, renewable access and the acceleration of capital expenditure of public utilities, and its contribution was higher.
OUTLOOK FOR THE QUARTER

Transmission and distribution construction and power grid upgrading
The expansion of North American power grid, the transformation of aging assets and the connection of renewable energy to the grid are the most compatible long-term logic of the company. It is expected that the kinetic energy of transmission and distribution projects will continue in this quarter, and the release of volume and the optimization of project portfolio are expected to consolidate the double-rise performance of revenue and profit. The market's forecast growth rate of the company's revenue this quarter has reached 19.08%. If the proportion of power grid upgrading projects continues to rise, the gross profit margin is expected to remain in a healthy range. The risk lies in the execution rhythm of large-scale projects and the fluctuation of material costs. However, the gross profit margin of 13.44% and the net profit margin of 4.68% in last quarter show that the company has cost management and bargaining power. If the orders are sufficient, the profit margin elasticity is still supported.

Business & Industrial (C&I) Programs
Commercial and industrial businesses have sustained opportunities in data centres, transportation infrastructure renovations and large building power system upgrades, and this quarter is expected to benefit from the recovery of corporate capital expenditure and the continuation of government infrastructure investment. The market expects EBIT to increase by 56.46% year-on-year in this quarter. If the turnover efficiency of C&I projects improves and the change orders are confirmed smoothly, it will contribute positively to the profit margin. It is necessary to pay attention to the impact of tight labor services and subcontracting resources on production scheduling and cost. Once the implementation efficiency is stable and the structural optimization of project pricing is superimposed, the sector's pull on the company's overall EPS will be more obvious.

Profit Margin and Cash Flow Quality
The company's adjusted earnings per share last quarter were $2.99 and significantly higher than market estimates, indicating improved earnings quality. If the revenue end is realized in this quarter, combined with the project cost curve and the improvement of capacity utilization rate, the net profit margin will have the foundation to maintain resilience. If the peak start of large projects drives the phased occupation of working capital to increase, it is necessary to pay attention to the pace of cash conversion; However, judging from the match between the net profit margin of 4.68% and the gross profit margin of 13.44% in the last quarter, there is no sign of imbalance on the expense side. If the prudent order-taking strategy and strict change management are maintained, the matching degree of cash flow quality and profit margin is expected to remain at a reasonable level.

Analyst Opinion
Based on the recent combing of the views of institutions and sellers, the proportion of optimistic voices is higher. Many analysts believe that MYR Group benefits from the long-term trend of grid hardening and renewable energy grid connection in North America. In the short term, sufficient projects in hand and improved execution efficiency support the continued growth of this quarter's performance; Some institutions emphasized that the optimization of order structure will promote the elastic release of EPS. The bearish view mainly focuses on the cyclical risk and cost fluctuation of the project, but the proportion is relatively low. On the whole, institutions generally expect both revenue and profit to increase this quarter, focusing on the impact of changes in the proportion of power transmission and distribution and C&I projects on gross profit margin and the robustness of the annual guidance.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Earnings Preview | MYR Group's revenue is expected to grow by 19.08% in the current quarter, and institutional views are optimistic
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nEarnings Preview | MYR Group's revenue is expected to grow by 19.08% in the current quarter, and institutional views are optimistic\n
\n
\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
财报Agent
\n
2026-07-22 13:08
\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n

Abstract
MYR Group will release its financial report on July 29, 2026 (after the U.S. stock market).

\n
\n
\n
\n
,"news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MYRG":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3483,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":111182007,"gmtCreate":1622662325309,"gmtModify":1704188387229,"author":{"id":"3575961933723946","authorId":"3575961933723946","name":"Jeremyekh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f282e7493caf9b66c35f33ff5e06c263","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575961933723946","idStr":"3575961933723946"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Yes","listText":"Yes","text":"Yes","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/111182007","repostId":"1148792219","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1148792219","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1622617655,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1148792219?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-02 15:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Li Auto Inc. delivered 4,323 Li ONEs in May, increasing by 101.3% YOY","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1148792219","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Li Auto Inc. today announced that the Company delivered 4,323 Li ONEs in May 2021, representing a 101.3% year-over-year increase.“We are pleased to see our 2021 Li ONE, released on May 25, receive very positive feedback and strong recognition from our users demonstrated by the robust order inflow that took the total orders in May to a record high. It’s more ambiguous. If the numbers say anything, maybe it’s that “sell in May and go away” is only half right. Since 1900, someone who sold in May actually could have retired earlier and with more money—but only if they hung around and waited to buy their stocks back during the usual summer panic.

Obvious note: If you want an easy life, ignore all trading advice from the Wall Street crowd. Set some basic rules—asset allocation, clearly established sell signals and so on—and stick to them.

On the other hand, there’s no point leaving money on the table if you’re willing to take a more active role.

The Wall Street phrase “sell in May” dates back at least to the 1930s. Originally it seems to have started in Great Britain, where the rhyme went “sell in May, go away, and don’t come back till St Leger’s Day”—meaning a famous horse race that takes place in mid-September. The theory was that the stock market’s returns over the summer months are usually so dismal that there’s really no point being in the market.

The updated version of this adage calls it “the Hallowe’en Effect,” and stretches the hiatus from May 1 to October 31: A full six months.

It sounds like superstitious nonsense, but there is some remarkable evidence for it.One exhaustive academic studylooked at all the available stock market data from around the world going as far back as 1693 (coincidentally, the time of the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts—make of this what you will).

“In none of the 65 countries for which we have total returns and short term interest rates available—with the exception of Mauritius — can we reject a Sell in May effect,” report researchers Cherry Zhang and Ben Jacobsen. “Summer risk premiums are not only not significantly positive, they are in most cases not even marginally positive. In 45 countries the excess returns during summer have been negative, and in seven significantly so,” they write. In other words: Historically, all the stock market’s returns have come during the winter months. During the summer months, typically, the stock market’s returns haven’t been any better than the returns on keeping your money in the bank.

(Oh, unless you’re living in Mauritius.)

Smart money mavens have a number of pushbacks to all this. They’ll point out that this is somewhat random, and makes no logical sense. They’ll warn that likely gains don’t really compensate for the trading costs, the potential taxes (in a taxable account). And they’ll add that you risk missing out if the market rises.

Furthermore, they’ll say, once you and I get in the habit of getting into the market and then out of it again, most of us will simply mess it up. We’ll get back in too early, or too late, or not at all.

All reasonable points.

So the advice, “leave it alone,” is not wrong.

But…the mathematical criticism of “sell in May” is partly off-beam. That’s because critics assume we sell on May 1 and go away, and don’t come back until October 31.

I’ve looked through the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.70% going back to 1900 and something amazing leaps out.

Ignore where the market ends up on October 31. The real opportunity occurs at some point during the six month period.

There hasalmost alwaysbeen a “summer selloff.” In 105 out of 120 years, or 88% of the time, the stock market has posted a decline at some stage in the six months after May 1.

So in almost 9 years out of 10, someone who sold their stock funds at the start of May was able to buy them back more cheaply during the next six months.

The average decline is 8%. That’s measured from May through the bottom of the slump.

In more than half of all years, the Dow Jones has fallen at least 5% during the summer lull, and in nearly one year out of three it has fallen by double digits.

These, of course, included such greatest hits as 2008 (a crash of 37%), 2002 (28%), 1987 (24%), 1907 (32%), and, of course, our old friend the catastrophe of 1929-32. Nearly all the terrible carnage of 1929-1932 took place during the summer months.

Weird, but true.

An average selloff of 8% is not small potatoes. It’s more ambiguous. If the numbers say anything, maybe it’s that “sell in May and go away” is only half right. Since 1900, someone who sold in May actually could have retired earlier and with more money—but only if they hung around and waited to buy their stocks back during the usual summer panic.Obvious note: If you want an easy life, ignore all trading advice from the Wall Street crowd. Set some basic rules—asset allocation, clearly established sell signals and so on—and stick to them.On the other hand, there’s no point leaving money on the table if you’re willing to take a more active role. It sounds like superstitious nonsense, but there is some remarkable evidence for it.One exhaustive academic studylooked at all the available stock market data from around the world going as far back as 1693 (coincidentally, the time of the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts—make of this what you will).“In none of the 65 countries for which we have total returns and short term interest rates available—with the exception of Mauritius — can we reject a Sell in May effect,” report researchers Cherry Zhang and Ben Jacobsen. “Summer risk premiums are not only not significantly positive, they are in most cases not even marginally positive. In 45 countries the excess returns during summer have been negative, and in seven significantly so,” they write. In other words: Historically, all the stock market’s returns have come during the winter months. During the summer months, typically, the stock market’s returns haven’t been any better than the returns on keeping your money in the bank.(Oh, unless you’re living in Mauritius.)Smart money mavens have a number of pushbacks to all this. They’ll point out that this is somewhat random, and makes no logical sense. They’ll warn that likely gains don’t really compensate for the trading costs, the potential taxes (in a taxable account). And they’ll add that you risk missing out if the market rises.Furthermore, they’ll say, once you and I get in the habit of getting into the market and then out of it again, most of us will simply mess it up. We’ll get back in too early, or too late, or not at all.All reasonable points. So the advice, “leave it alone,” is not wrong. But…the mathematical criticism of “sell in May” is partly off-beam. That’s because critics assume we sell on May 1 and go away, and don’t come back until October 31.I’ve looked through the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.70% going back to 1900 and something amazing leaps out.Ignore where the market ends up on October 31. The real opportunity occurs at some point during the six month period. There hasalmost alwaysbeen a “summer selloff.” In 105 out of 120 years, or 88% of the time, the stock market has posted a decline at some stage in the six months after May 1.So in almost 9 years out of 10, someone who sold their stock funds at the start of May was able to buy them back more cheaply during the next six months. Nearly all the terrible carnage of 1929-1932 took place during the summer months.Weird, but true.An average selloff of 8% is not small potatoes. Over 20 years, someone who timed such a move perfectly every time would earn a remarkable 400% return. If the stock market’s past is any guide to the future, the really clever move would be for us to sell our SPDR S&P 500 ETFSPY,+0.22%,Vanguard Total Stock Market Index FundVTSMX,+0.20%or similar this Monday…and then hang around for the sale. We’d buy back our stock fund back either on Hallowe’en, or when the market has fallen, say, 5%—whichever comes first. All the years we got a bargain would more than compensate for the few years when there wasn’t one.On the other hand, if the stock market’s past isn’t any guide to the future, then pretty much everything our financial adviser tells us is nonsense anyway.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1333,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":101754375,"gmtCreate":1619949256397,"gmtModify":1704336706629,"author":{"id":"3575961933723946","authorId":"3575961933723946","name":"Jeremyekh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f282e7493caf9b66c35f33ff5e06c263","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575961933723946","idStr":"3575961933723946"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Yes","listText":"Yes","text":"Yes","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/101754375","repostId":"1142070002","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1142070002","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1619792975,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1142070002?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-30 22:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"NIO rose more than 5%, after falling nearly 4% before","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1142070002","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"NIO Earnings Looked a Lot Like Ford’s. Here’s What to Expect.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1121126533","media":"Barrons","summary":"The core debate on Netflix stock is whether the streaming video giant can maintain its subscriber gr","content":"
The core debate on Netflix stock is whether the streaming video giant can maintain its subscriber growth amid growing competition from new streaming services and from other forms of entertainment as the economy begins to emerge from the Covid-19 shutdown.
\n
Investors will get some new clues on that question on Tuesday, when Netflix (ticker: NFLX) reports first-quarter financial results.
\n
In reporting fourth-quarter results, Netflix projected March quarter revenue of $7.1 billion, with earnings of $2.97 a share, and 6 million net new subscribers. The net-add forecast for the March quarter is down from the 15.8 million spike in subscribers driven by Covid-19 in the year-ago first quarter.
\n
The company expects operating margin in the March quarter to jump to 25%, from 16.6% a year ago and 14.4% in the fourth quarter.
\n
Last quarter,Netflix surprised Wall Street with the news that it now expects to be cash flow break-even or better moving forward—and that it has begun considering stock buybacks. Netflix had $1.9 billion in positive free cash flow in 2020, thanks to lower production costs as a result of the pandemic, compared with a $3.3 billion cash flow loss in 2019. For 2021, Netflix expects to break even on a cash flow basis. Fourth-quarter cash flow was negative $138 million.
\n
Netflix also said that with $8.2 billion in cash and an untouched $750 million credit facility, “we believe we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” In addition, the streaming giant said it had about $16 billion in debt overall and expects to maintain $10 billion to $15 billion in gross debt over time. Netflix said it would “explore returning cash to shareholders through ongoing stock buybacks,” something it hasn’t done since 2011.
\n
The stock shot higher on that news, but has since eased back, as attention turns to the potential for slowing near-term subscriber growth. Analyst sentiment heading into earnings is mixed.
\n
Piper Sandler analyst Thomas Champion, who has an Overweight rating and $605 target price on Netflix, is bullish on the stock heading into the report. While noting that the company was a beneficiary of the pandemic, he thinks Netflix will benefit from a combination of “a strong consumer” as the economy reopens, a clamp-down on password sharing, and “a pandemic tailwind that may remain in Europe.” Champion notes that a recent Piper survey of teens found that they allocate 32% of video consumption to Netflix, versus 8% for Hulu, the second-most popular subscription video service.
\n
UBS analyst John Hodulik notes that investors have become increasingly focused on how summer seasonality might manifest this year, given a reopening economy and the potential for added churn from higher subscription prices in some markets. The stock could remain volatile in the short-to-medium term, he warns. The net-add forecast for the March quarter is down from the 15.8 million spike in subscribers driven by Covid-19 in the year-ago first quarter.\nThe company expects operating margin in the March quarter to jump to 25%, from 16.6% a year ago and 14.4% in the fourth quarter.\nLast quarter,Netflix surprised Wall Street with the news that it now expects to be cash flow break-even or better moving forward—and that it has begun considering stock buybacks. Netflix had $1.9 billion in positive free cash flow in 2020, thanks to lower production costs as a result of the pandemic, compared with a $3.3 billion cash flow loss in 2019. For 2021, Netflix expects to break even on a cash flow basis. Fourth-quarter cash flow was negative $138 million.\nNetflix also said that with $8.2 billion in cash and an untouched $750 million credit facility, “we believe we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” In addition, the streaming giant said it had about $16 billion in debt overall and expects to maintain $10 billion to $15 billion in gross debt over time. Netflix said it would “explore returning cash to shareholders through ongoing stock buybacks,” something it hasn’t done since 2011.\nThe stock shot higher on that news, but has since eased back, as attention turns to the potential for slowing near-term subscriber growth. Analyst sentiment heading into earnings is mixed.\nPiper Sandler analyst Thomas Champion, who has an Overweight rating and $605 target price on Netflix, is bullish on the stock heading into the report. While noting that the company was a beneficiary of the pandemic, he thinks Netflix will benefit from a combination of “a strong consumer” as the economy reopens, a clamp-down on password sharing, and “a pandemic tailwind that may remain in Europe.” Champion notes that a recent Piper survey of teens found that they allocate 32% of video consumption to Netflix, versus 8% for Hulu, the second-most popular subscription video service.\nUBS analyst John Hodulik notes that investors have become increasingly focused on how summer seasonality might manifest this year, given a reopening economy and the potential for added churn from higher subscription prices in some markets. The stock could remain volatile in the short-to-medium term, he warns. But the analyst “continues to view Netflix as the long-term winner within streaming media and remains constructive on the fundamentals.” He keeps a Buy rating and $650 target price on Netflix shares.\nRaymond James analyst Andrew Marok, who has a Market Perform rating on Netflix shares, remains cautious on the stock for now. Marok continues to view Netflix as a “long-term winner in the video-on-demand space,” he writes. He does see some near-terms risks, however: the pace of subscriber additions post-pandemic, the impact of the pandemic on 2021 content releases, and scaling competition from cheaper competitive subscription services.\nFor Netflix’s June quarter, Wall Street consensus calls for revenue of $7.4 billion, earnings of $2.69 a share, and 4.4 million net subscriber additions.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NFLX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1464,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3577415105079753","authorId":"3577415105079753","name":"股惑仔79","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2521bf7235578dd93b9e7d10c59d5058","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3577415105079753","idStr":"3577415105079753"},"content":"Comment back thks","text":"Comment back thks","html":"Comment back thks"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165742100,"gmtCreate":1624159271100,"gmtModify":1703829771365,"author":{"id":"3575961933723946","authorId":"3575961933723946","name":"Jeremyekh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f282e7493caf9b66c35f33ff5e06c263","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575961933723946","idStr":"3575961933723946"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"$Torchlight Energy Resources(TRCH)$good","listText":"$Torchlight Energy Resources(TRCH)$good","text":"$Torchlight Energy Resources(TRCH)$good","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a515f59ae9c53816f941bb2dc9ab9239","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/165742100","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3114,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":164055201,"gmtCreate":1624162443303,"gmtModify":1703829901074,"author":{"id":"3575961933723946","authorId":"3575961933723946","name":"Jeremyekh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f282e7493caf9b66c35f33ff5e06c263","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575961933723946","idStr":"3575961933723946"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/164055201","repostId":"1166679093","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1166679093","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624065234,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1166679093?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-19 09:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1166679093","media":"fool","summary":"Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year.

Can you imagine when we get the all-clear and start moving back toward normalcy?\"
\n
But three months into the year, Andersen is glum. In an interview last week, he talked about the way big segments of the market seem to be in favor one day, out the next. \"We toggle between value and growth, stay-at-home and re-opening, almost daily,\" he said. \"I don't know who is driving this, but it must be following some kind of algorithm.\"
\n
Andersen is trying to be patient, recognizing that the economy is at a once-in-a-generation inflection point and that everyone is operating in unprecedented conditions. Still, he said, the financial markets sometimes feel like a house of cards.
\n
\"It's confounding,\" he said. \"The market is fragile, and surprisingly so. This whole year for me has been really challenging to try to figure out is there any momentum, what direction is it going in and what's responsible for it.\"
\n
As if the horrors of the global coronavirus pandemic weren't enough of a curveball, the past 12 months have thrown up a slew of other headwinds against smooth market sailing. There's the surge of retail traders bent on using the stock market as a gambling casino , and a national politics so bitter that the presidential election turned bloody.
\n
And that's not even counting the more existential questions: what's the right level for a stock market that plunged 33% in about two weeks just a year ago? How much of that gain comes down to policy stimulus and how much is real? How much of the expected economic rebound is already priced in? What happens if the vaccine promise falls short? What if this is as good as it gets?
\n
Taken together, it leaves people who manage money, their clients, and the companies that advise them, just as befuddled as Andersen, with almost as many perceived red flags as there are theories as to what's causing it all.
\n
\"The most common observation we get from clients is that markets don't \"feel right\", and we absolutely get that,\" wrote Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research, in a recent note. \"For us, a big piece of this unease comes from the novelty of seeing capital markets go from distress to euphoria in such a short period of time.\"
\n
Market observers point to all manner of weird quirks that seem to confirm something is askew. Among other things, trading volumes have plunged to start 2021.
\n

\n
To be sure, the elevated volumes in 2020 were just that -- an outlier. But by some estimates, inexperienced amateur traders now make up as much as 20% of all volume in the markets. And even if all of them aren't out gunning for short-sellers, they still have very different priorities and incentives than much of the rest of the market.
\n
Also unsettling was the spike U.S. Treasury yields in only a few weeks in the first quarter this year, spooking stock-market investors, followed by several weeks of Federal Reserve policymakers reassuring markets that any interest rate rises wouldn't start until 2023 and would be telegraphed well in advance. Strangely then, rosy economic data seemingly caused bond yields to plunge in mid-April.
\n
\"Other weird stuff is going on,\" mused Evercore ISI's Dennis DeBusschere, in a note attempting to explain the government-bond rally. \"SPAC's and Solar are getting hit hard on a relative basis, which is odd given the move lower in 10 year yields. Some are citing that the retail investor-sponsored names are getting hit in general as they move away from the market. And why are homebuilders underperforming with 10 year yields collapsing?\"
\n
Dave Nadig is a long-time student of market structure, including as one of the first developers of exchange-traded funds to help markets avoid another blow-up like 1987's Black Monday.
\n
Nadig thinks markets are healthy -- that is, working efficiently and staying resilient, even through hiccups like the meme-stock rampage in the past couple of months and the Archegos family office blow-up. What's become \"very fragile,\" in his words, is price discovery.
\n
\"There are some fundamental underpinnings of how markets work that are dissolving,\" he said in an interview. \"What we're realizing is that there's a lot more noise and randomness in the market than people are willing to admit. Mostly what's changed is information flow and data moving faster and faster. Any model you build today by definition fails to take into account an acceleration tomorrow.\"
\n
Take the Gamestop Corp. $(GME)$frenzy that erupted in January . After a group of disgruntled traders spent several weeks targeting short sellers by driving the price of that stock higher, \"It's no longer a normal stock -- it's an externality in the market that has ripple effects some investors may not even be aware of,\" Nadig said.
\n
Older investing models -- and algorithms -- are bumping up against new ones that take into account new conditions, a process Nadig calls \"an arms race,\" and one that's accelerated because of the modern speed of information flow and reaction functions.
\n
\"We're starting to see cracks in the traditional ways we've always analyzed markets,\" he said. \"We're no longer processing reality, we're processing information, and it gets priced in instantaneously. We've given up on analyzing.\"
\n
That means that a headline, say, about a pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine shares trade lower, Nadig said. It means that for that day, the entire \"re-opening\" trade -- and by extension, some cyclical trades and some value plays -- suffers.
\n
For Peter Andersen, who's managed money for nearly three decades and returned more than 40% for his clients in each of the the past two years, the market's fragility is frustrating. Andersen prides himself on \"fierce independence\" in stock selection that results in a macro-agnostic portfolio. Some of his recent investments have been in cybersecurity, data storage, and pet care.
\n
In the year to date, however, one of Andersen's top picks, Trupanion Inc. (TRUP), is down 33%, for no logical reason, he noted. \"It's as if someone thinks everyone is going to euthanize their pets!\"
\n
Stocks looked past the Johnson & Johnson news to close higher for the week with both the Dow and S&P500 index at new records. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.2%, the S&P 500 was up 1.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.1%.
\n
The coming week will bring U.S. economic data on the housing market, including existing- and new- home sales, and a raft of corporate earnings reports.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Stocks are at all-time highs and the U.S. economy is booming. Can you imagine when we get the all-clear and start moving back toward normalcy?\"\nBut three months into the year, Andersen is glum. In an interview last week, he talked about the way big segments of the market seem to be in favor one day, out the next. \"We toggle between value and growth, stay-at-home and re-opening, almost daily,\" he said. \"I don't know who is driving this, but it must be following some kind of algorithm.\"\nAndersen is trying to be patient, recognizing that the economy is at a once-in-a-generation inflection point and that everyone is operating in unprecedented conditions. Still, he said, the financial markets sometimes feel like a house of cards.\n\"It's confounding,\" he said. \"The market is fragile, and surprisingly so. This whole year for me has been really challenging to try to figure out is there any momentum, what direction is it going in and what's responsible for it.\"\nAs if the horrors of the global coronavirus pandemic weren't enough of a curveball, the past 12 months have thrown up a slew of other headwinds against smooth market sailing. There's the surge of retail traders bent on using the stock market as a gambling casino , and a national politics so bitter that the presidential election turned bloody.\nAnd that's not even counting the more existential questions: what's the right level for a stock market that plunged 33% in about two weeks just a year ago? How much of that gain comes down to policy stimulus and how much is real? How much of the expected economic rebound is already priced in? What happens if the vaccine promise falls short? What if this is as good as it gets?\nTaken together, it leaves people who manage money, their clients, and the companies that advise them, just as befuddled as Andersen, with almost as many perceived red flags as there are theories as to what's causing it all.\n\"The most common observation we get from clients is that markets don't \"feel right\", and we absolutely get that,\" wrote Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research, in a recent note. \"For us, a big piece of this unease comes from the novelty of seeing capital markets go from distress to euphoria in such a short period of time.\"\nMarket observers point to all manner of weird quirks that seem to confirm something is askew. Among other things, trading volumes have plunged to start 2021.\n\nTo be sure, the elevated volumes in 2020 were just that -- an outlier. But by some estimates, inexperienced amateur traders now make up as much as 20% of all volume in the markets. And even if all of them aren't out gunning for short-sellers, they still have very different priorities and incentives than much of the rest of the market.\nAlso unsettling was the spike U.S. Treasury yields in only a few weeks in the first quarter this year, spooking stock-market investors, followed by several weeks of Federal Reserve policymakers reassuring markets that any interest rate rises wouldn't start until 2023 and would be telegraphed well in advance. Strangely then, rosy economic data seemingly caused bond yields to plunge in mid-April.\n\"Other weird stuff is going on,\" mused Evercore ISI's Dennis DeBusschere, in a note attempting to explain the government-bond rally. \"SPAC's and Solar are getting hit hard on a relative basis, which is odd given the move lower in 10 year yields. Some are citing that the retail investor-sponsored names are getting hit in general as they move away from the market. And why are homebuilders underperforming with 10 year yields collapsing?\"\nDave Nadig is a long-time student of market structure, including as one of the first developers of exchange-traded funds to help markets avoid another blow-up like 1987's Black Monday.\nNadig thinks markets are healthy -- that is, working efficiently and staying resilient, even through hiccups like the meme-stock rampage in the past couple of months and the Archegos family office blow-up. What's become \"very fragile,\" in his words, is price discovery.\n\"There are some fundamental underpinnings of how markets work that are dissolving,\" he said in an interview. \"What we're realizing is that there's a lot more noise and randomness in the market than people are willing to admit. Mostly what's changed is information flow and data moving faster and faster. Any model you build today by definition fails to take into account an acceleration tomorrow.\"\nTake the Gamestop Corp. $(GME)$frenzy that erupted in January . After a group of disgruntled traders spent several weeks targeting short sellers by driving the price of that stock higher, \"It's no longer a normal stock -- it's an externality in the market that has ripple effects some investors may not even be aware of,\" Nadig said.\nOlder investing models -- and algorithms -- are bumping up against new ones that take into account new conditions, a process Nadig calls \"an arms race,\" and one that's accelerated because of the modern speed of information flow and reaction functions.\n\"We're starting to see cracks in the traditional ways we've always analyzed markets,\" he said. \"We're no longer processing reality, we're processing information, and it gets priced in instantaneously. We've given up on analyzing.\"\nThat means that a headline, say, about a pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine shares trade lower, Nadig said. It means that for that day, the entire \"re-opening\" trade -- and by extension, some cyclical trades and some value plays -- suffers.\nFor Peter Andersen, who's managed money for nearly three decades and returned more than 40% for his clients in each of the the past two years, the market's fragility is frustrating.
