afte","content":"
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The S&P 500 ended slightly down on Thursday, paring losses in late trading after unexpectedly strong retail sales data underscored the strength of the U.S. economic recovery.
\n
The three major indexes spent much of the day in negative territory as rising U.S. Treasury yields pressured market-leading tech stocks, and the rising dollar weighed on exporters.
\n
Amazon.com Inc, buoyed by solid online sales in the Commerce Department’s report, helped push the Nasdaq into positive territory.
\n
“Looking at today, clearly we had positive news from retail sales and it looks as if the massive slowdown in the economy is not materializing as a lot of people expected,” said Ryan Detrick, senior market strategist at LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina.
\n
“It’s a nice reminder that the economy is still taking two steps forward for each step back even amid the COVID concerns,” Detrick added.
\n
Economically sensitive transports and microchips were among the outperformers.
\n
Data released before the opening bell showed an unexpected bump in retail sales as shoppers weathered Hurricane Ida and the COVID Delta variant, evidence of resilience in the consumer, who contributes about 70% to U.S. economic growth.
\n
“Once again, it shows the U.S. consumer continues to spend and continues to help this economy grow,” Detrick said.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 63.07 points, or 0.18%, to 34,751.32; the S&P 500 lost 6.95 points, or 0.16%, at 4,473.75; and the Nasdaq Composite added 20.40 points, or 0.13%, at 15,181.92.
\n
Eight of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500 ended lower, with materials suffering the largest percentage drop.
\n
The consumer discretionary spending sector posted the biggest gain, with Amazon.com doing the heavy lifting.
\n
Apparel company Gap Inc gained 1.6%. Online marketplace Etsy Inc and luxury accessory company Tapestry Inc rose 3.1% and 1.9%, respectively.
\n
Ford Motor Co rose 1.4% after it announced plans to boost production of its F-150 electric pickup model.
\n
Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.27-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.06-to-1 ratio favored advancers.
\n
The S&P 500 posted nine new 52-week highs and one new low; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 82 new highs and 94 new lows.
\n
Volume on U.S. exchanges was 9.37 billion shares, compared with the 9.44 billion average over the last 20 trading days.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; the S&P 500 lost 6.95 points, or 0.16%, at 4,473.75; and the Nasdaq Composite added 20.40 points, or 0.13%, at 15,181.92.\nEight of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500 ended lower, with materials suffering the largest percentage drop.\nThe consumer discretionary spending sector posted the biggest gain, with Amazon.com doing the heavy lifting.\nApparel company Gap Inc gained 1.6%. Online marketplace Etsy Inc and luxury accessory company Tapestry Inc rose 3.1% and 1.9%, respectively.\nFord Motor Co rose 1.4% after it announced plans to boost production of its F-150 electric pickup model.\nDeclining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.27-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.06-to-1 ratio favored advancers.\nThe S&P 500 posted nine new 52-week highs and one new low; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 82 new highs and 94 new lows.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 9.37 billion shares, compared with the 9.44 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":170,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":883591170,"gmtCreate":1631251630290,"gmtModify":1676530509401,"author":{"id":"3575972498783941","authorId":"3575972498783941","name":"hyper","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e6bab3e9033bc89f0e2b103c8f4236e1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575972498783941","authorIdStr":"3575972498783941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Airbnb, Inc.(ABNB)$hold","listText":"$Airbnb, Inc.(ABNB)$hold","text":"$Airbnb, Inc.(ABNB)$hold","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/05ae14c05708dc4a73c49d084a93c647","width":"1440","height":"2560"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/883591170","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":162,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":325620130,"gmtCreate":1615895872120,"gmtModify":1704788080178,"author":{"id":"3575972498783941","authorId":"3575972498783941","name":"hyper","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e6bab3e9033bc89f0e2b103c8f4236e1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575972498783941","authorIdStr":"3575972498783941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Flyyyy","listText":"Flyyyy","text":"Flyyyy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/325620130","repostId":"1197868540","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197868540","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1615895068,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1197868540?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-16 19:44","market":"us","language":"en","title":"DraftKings prices upsized $1.1B convertible senior notes offering","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197868540","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"DraftKings Inc. trades 1.1% higher premarket after pricing its upsized private offering of $1.1B pr","content":"
DraftKings Inc. trades 1.1% higher premarket after pricing its upsized private offering of $1.1B principal amount of 0% Convertible Senior Notes due 2028.
\n
Initial purchasers granted 13-day option to purchase up to an additional $165M principal amount of Notes.
\n
Sale is expected to close on Mar.18 while notes will mature on Mar.15, 2028.
\n
Notes will be redeemable, in whole or in part, for cash at DraftKings' option at any time on or after Mar. 15, 2025.
\n
Net proceeds of ~$1,084M to be used for general corporate purposes, which may include mergers and acquisitions and products or technology investments that DraftKings may identify in the future.
\n
The company plans to use ~$108M of the net proceeds for paying the cost of capped call transactions.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Let's take a closer look at some highly anticipated announcements from this list, by Costco (NASDAQ:COST), Nike (NYSE:NKE), and Stitch Fix (NASDAQ:SFIX).
\n
\n
Costco's renewal rate
\n
Thanks to its monthly sales updates, investors already know that Costco had a great fiscal fourth quarter. Comparable-store sales jumped 9% in August, the warehouse giant reported in early September, which telegraphs good news in the upcoming earnings report on Thursday.
\n
That announcement will add context around it fiscal 2021 performance, including an update on its profitability, which has been edging higher lately. But the big number to watch this week is Costco's renewal rate. Roughly 91% of its members have been renewing their subscriptions lately, reflecting solid engagement and industry-leading customer satisfaction.
\n
Those wins support sales growth over time, but they also lay the foundation for rising membership fees. Costco hasn't raised its subscription prices in a few years, and Wall Street is hopeful that the next boost might come in fiscal 2022.
\n
Nike's inventory
\n
Rival Lululemon Athletica recently set the stage for what could be a strong earnings report out of Nike on Thursday. The athleisure specialist said it was enjoying accelerating sales growth and booming earnings as customers flocked toward innovative new product releases in the early summer.
\n
Nike had a busy quarter for product launches, too, which is one reason most investors are looking for sales to rise in the low double-digit range this fiscal year, to roughly $50 billion, following last year's 19% spike.
\n
Wall Street is even more excited about management's prediction of a new financial model that's more profitable thanks to direct-to-consumer sales. But the next portion of that race involves having Nike successfully raise prices to offset higher costs. Look for executives to discuss any supply chain challenges that might affect the holiday shopping season this week, too.
\n
Stitch Fix's shipping update
\n
It has been a wild ride for Stitch Fix shareholders this past year, and that volatility is likely to continue around its Tuesday earnings release.
\n
On the downside, the apparel specialist might have been hit by a clogged supply chain and spiking transportation costs. Several industry peers have noted these challenges, and Stitch Fix's delivery model makes it more sensitive to shipping bottlenecks than its rivals are. Yet the business showed impressive resilience in the previous quarterly outing as CEO Elizabeth Spaulding took over for founder Katrina Lake.
\n
Spaulding should spent some time highlighting Stitch Fix's new direct-buy offering that gives it a chance to play in a much bigger retailing space. That service went live nationally in August and has the potential to accelerate sales growth. But its more immediate concern is keeping inventory flowing smoothly through its system, at affordable prices, through a holiday shopping period that's likely to stress the freight delivery network over the next few months.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Things to Watch in the Stock Market This Week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Things to Watch in the Stock Market This Week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-20 09:28 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Stocks dropped for a second straight week last week, as both the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) and the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) shed less than 1%. Costco hasn't raised its subscription prices in a few years, and Wall Street is hopeful that the next boost might come in fiscal 2022.\nNike's inventory\nRival Lululemon Athletica recently set the stage for what could be a strong earnings report out of Nike on Thursday. The athleisure specialist said it was enjoying accelerating sales growth and booming earnings as customers flocked toward innovative new product releases in the early summer.\nNike had a busy quarter for product launches, too, which is one reason most investors are looking for sales to rise in the low double-digit range this fiscal year, to roughly $50 billion, following last year's 19% spike.\nWall Street is even more excited about management's prediction of a new financial model that's more profitable thanks to direct-to-consumer sales. But the next portion of that race involves having Nike successfully raise prices to offset higher costs. Look for executives to discuss any supply chain challenges that might affect the holiday shopping season this week, too.\nStitch Fix's shipping update\nIt has been a wild ride for Stitch Fix shareholders this past year, and that volatility is likely to continue around its Tuesday earnings release.\nOn the downside, the apparel specialist might have been hit by a clogged supply chain and spiking transportation costs. Several industry peers have noted these challenges, and Stitch Fix's delivery model makes it more sensitive to shipping bottlenecks than its rivals are. Yet the business showed impressive resilience in the previous quarterly outing as CEO Elizabeth Spaulding took over for founder Katrina Lake.\nSpaulding should spent some time highlighting Stitch Fix's new direct-buy offering that gives it a chance to play in a much bigger retailing space. That service went live nationally in August and has the potential to accelerate sales growth. But its more immediate concern is keeping inventory flowing smoothly through its system, at affordable prices, through a holiday shopping period that's likely to stress the freight delivery network over the next few months.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":227,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":321045823,"gmtCreate":1615387250862,"gmtModify":1704782049956,"author":{"id":"3575972498783941","authorId":"3575972498783941","name":"hyper","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e6bab3e9033bc89f0e2b103c8f4236e1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575972498783941","authorIdStr":"3575972498783941"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Flyyy","listText":"Flyyy","text":"Flyyy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/321045823","repostId":"1115102821","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1115102821","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1615386561,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1115102821?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-10 22:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Futures Rise, Dollar Erases Gain on Inflation Data: Markets Wrap","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1115102821","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Nasdaq contracts outperform as prices rose less than expected\nTreasury yields fluctuate after data; ","content":"
\n
Nasdaq contracts outperform as prices rose less than expected
\n
Treasury yields fluctuate after data; crude oil edges higher
\n
\n
U.S. equity futures turned higher and the dollar erased a gain after a key measure of American consumer prices rose less than expected in February. The S&P 500 added 0.7%.The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.2%, following a 3.7% rally in the previous session.Data out Wednesday morning showed Februaryconsumer prices increased 0.4%, matching expectations from economists polled by Dow Jones. The Consumer Price Index gained 1.7% on a year-over-year basis, also in line with estimates.\"The biggest concern that markets have had over the last month or so has been inflation running hotter than we estimate, clearly CPI puts that to rest, at least for today,\" said Art Hogan of National Securities. \"The yield on the 10-year has ceased going parabolic.\"Investors will also be watching Wednesday's 10-year Treasury auction of $38 billion in notes at 1 p.m. ET for clues into the next direction for rates.House Democrats are on track to pass the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill Wednesday morning. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the bill this weekend and checks of up to $1,400 should start going out this month. The anticipated stimulus and rise in rates has divided the market recently, largely favoring stocks leveraged to a recovering economy over the tech and growth stocks that led during the pandemic. On Tuesday however, tech stocks snapped back. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 3.7% to post its best day since November as investors poured back into popular growth names.Tesla surged 19.6% for its biggest one-day pop since February 2020. Apple and Facebook popped more than 4% each, while Amazon rallied 3.8%. Before the snapback, the tech-heavy benchmark had fallen into correction territory on Monday, or down more than 10% from its recent high.Tech stocks continued their comeback Wednesday morning following the tame inflation data.
