It’s a time when following the daily market news can drive you crazy. First, good news is bad news, then good news is good news. That’s not just true of the meme stocks; it’s true of many long-term growth stocks.

Being a buy-and-hold investor is easy with some dividend stocks, but it’s not always the case with growth stocks. You need money in long-term growth stocks if you have a long-term outlook. But which ones?

Some time-honored advice is that when in doubt, take a wider view. Sometimes, that means looking at the chart; sometimes, taking a wider perspective is remembering why you bought the stock. Or, if you don’t own the stock, why are you considering it? Has anything changed that makes you doubt the case for its long-term growth?

The end of the year is a good time to take a critical look at your portfolio. If you want to take a long position in a new name or two, here are three long-term growth stocks for your consideration.

Nvidia (NVDA)

Source: Evolf / Shutterstock.com

If artificial intelligence (AI) is the story of the year, then Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is the signature stock of that story. Everybody knew Nvidia was one of the leading names in the chip sector. However, knowing how valuable that leadership would be regarding AI applications was nearly impossible.

NVDA stock is up over 239% in 2023, fueled mainly by its unquestioned leadership in delivering the essential chips for generative AI applications. But even that fantastic performance has come with some sharp pullbacks.

However, in terms of long-term growth stocks, it doesn’t look much better than NVDA. Forty-four analysts have issued a one-year price forecast for Nvidia, and every single one has a price target higher than the $495.56 closing price on November 14, 2023. That’s rare.

Analysts and many investors are convinced Nvidia can continue generating revenue and earnings to justify its premium valuation (currently 51x forward earnings). However, even with that growth, the company may consider increasing its dividend, which only costs about $400 million annually. That compares favorably to the $10.3 billion in trailing twelve-month free cash flow.

In the past, the company has prioritized share buybacks. That may continue, but long-term investors may benefit from a juicier dividend down the road.

Block (SQ)

Source: Sergei Elagin / Shutterstock.com

Block (NYSE:SQ), formerly Square, is next on this list of long-term growth stocks. The case for making Block a long-term buy is its evolution. The company has expanded beyond being a point-of-sale (POS) and e-commerce payment processor. That’s why the company changed its name.

Today, Block includes a Bitcoin and blockchain business and the company has recently entered the buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) space.

It’s too early to call Block a sum-of-its-parts stock. Source: ShutterstockMany investors are experiencing the impact of high inflation and high interest rates for the first time. It’s a time when following the daily market news can drive you crazy. First, good news is bad news, then good news is good news. That’s not just true of the meme stocks; it’s true of many long-term growth stocks.Being a buy-and-hold investor is easy with some dividend stocks, but it’s not always the case with growth stocks. Nvidia (NVDA) Source: Evolf / Shutterstock.comIf artificial intelligence (AI) is the story of the year, then Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is the signature stock of that story. That’s rare.Analysts and many investors are convinced Nvidia can continue generating revenue and earnings to justify its premium valuation (currently 51x forward earnings). However, even with that growth, the company may consider increasing its dividend, which only costs about $400 million annually. That compares favorably to the $10.3 billion in trailing twelve-month free cash flow.In the past, the company has prioritized share buybacks. That may continue, but long-term investors may benefit from a juicier dividend down the road.Block (SQ) Source: Sergei Elagin / Shutterstock.comBlock (NYSE:SQ), formerly Square, is next on this list of long-term growth stocks. But there’s clearly a roadmap for customers who become familiar with the company through Cash App to get more immersed in the other areas of its business. At least, that’s the plan. Forty analysts have offered a one-year price target on SQ stock. The consensus price target is $71.68, a 30% increase in the share price. The company recently authorized up to $1 billion in share buybacks to help offset some dilution that long-term investors have experienced.Editas Medicine (EDIT) Source: vxhal/ShutterStock.comGene editing is one of the most compelling growth sectors from now through 2030. Editas Medicine (NASDAQ:EDIT) is in a race to commercialize a first-of-its-kind treatment for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia. EDIT-301 is in late-stage clinical trials. In October 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Editas a Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation to EDIT-301 for treating sickle cell disease. If $1,000 is that mark for you, these two Warren Buffett-backed stocks could provide the foundation you want for your long-term investment strategy.

AbbVie ( ABBV 0.66% ) and Verizon Communications ( VZ 0.55% ) offer innovative products in growing markets, combined with a strategy that withstands market volatility, to reward investors with long-term gains. They also carry a special characteristic that is shared by 63% of the stocks owned by Buffett in his Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A 1.92% ) ( BRK.B 1.81% ) portfolio.

AbbVie: Building a pipeline to keep revenue flowing

AbbVie is one of the smallest holdings in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio, at only 0.1% of the portfolio's total holdings. But that's the only thing small about this leading innovator in biopharmaceuticals that has seen its stock price grow 53% over the past year -- crushing the S&P 500's 14.7% one-year return.

AbbVie has experienced strong growth of its best-selling drug, Humira, which helped the company realize a 22.7% increase in net revenue in 2021. That growth is expected to continue with an 8% increase in sales for Humira during 2022, but could come to a screeching slowdown in 2023. The company estimates a 45% erosion in sales as a result of biosimilar competition entering the U.S. market on the heels of an expiring patent, with a rebound not expected to happen until 2024.

To offset those losses, the company is depending on a spike in sales of two potential successors to Humira, Rinvoq and Skyrizi. Together these two medications brought in a combined $4.5 billion in 2021 and are expected to reach $15 billion in 2025. AbbVie is also seeing positive results from its Allergan acquisition in 2020, which netted the company Botox, contributing nearly $5 billion to total sales in 2021.

Going forward, the company has high expectations for a post-COVID rebound in sales of two leading cancer treatment drugs, as well as a pipeline of late-stage programs in cancer treatment. In total, the company has 13 drugs in phase 3 trials across immunology, neuroscience, eye care, oncology, and gastroenterology. Some of these drugs are already approved for certain indications, which could lead to a smoother path toward approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

AbbVie also offers a quarterly dividend that can help keep investors engaged during times of trouble. If you include the time before AbbVie was spun off from Abbott Laboratories, the company has been increasing its annual dividend for 50 years, placing it among the elite class of Dividend Kings. At the current share price, the stock's annual payout of $5.64 per share results in yield of 3.5%. Over the long term, this can be quite a hefty sum due to compounding gains.

A robust pipeline of drugs combined with a hefty dividend yield of 3.5% that leads most of its big-cap pharma peers makes AbbVie a Buffett-backed stock I'd see no problem investing $1,000 in.

Verizon: Checking off boxes to keep investors satisfied

Verizon ranks ninth in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio of 47 stocks in terms of portfolio holding and total value. But the company's investors have not been exempt from the broader market volatility that has impacted tech stocks, as Verizon's stock price has seen a 15% decline since May of last year.

Fortunately, CEO Hans Vestberg, who came on board in 2018 after a stint as chief technology officer, has a clear plan in place that could trigger a rebound. It includes reducing the company's capital intensity to under 12%, growing dividends, paying down debt, and speeding up a timeline for share repurchases.

Boxes are already being checked off for that plan. Verizon's Q4 report highlighted a 6.5% year-over-year growth in wireless services revenue, driven by higher revenue per account, meaning existing customers are spending more. Growth is also coming from an increase in subscriptions for wireless and broadband. FiOS (its bundled service for internet, cable, and telephone) finished Q4 of last year with a 5.7% year-over-year spike in revenue, allowing the company to post its best full-year performance for FiOS since 2014.

The company expects to check off a few more boxes during 2022, starting with a continued quarterly dividend payout of $0.64 per share, to be paid on May 2 to investors of record on April 8. This represents a 5% dividend yield, topping the telecom sector average of 4.36%.

By year-end, the company is looking to complete an accelerated plan to bring 5G ultra wideband service to an additional 30 major markets serving over 175 million people -- a full year ahead of schedule. And while doing so, Vestberg has his eyes on reducing capital expenditures 9% to $16.5 billion.

If 2022 goes according to plan, the company is projecting full-year earnings per share that just slightly tops Wall Street estimates. Management is also looking for 9% to 10% growth in services revenue. Ultimately, Verizon's technological advancements should lead to new revenue, supported by acquisitions in the telecom space and collaborations with companies such as Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) as the two work toward building out the immersive digital world referred to as the metaverse.

Verizon investors should stand to gain from continued dividends and a wireless market that is projected to grow at a 15.4% compound annual rate through 2027. The company's shares currently trade at a P/E ratio of 9.6, far below the wireless telecom industry average of 30. They also carry a special characteristic that is shared by 63% of the stocks owned by Buffett in his Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A 1.92% ) ( BRK.B 1.81% ) portfolio.Image source: Getty Images.AbbVie: Building a pipeline to keep revenue flowingAbbVie is one of the smallest holdings in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio, at only 0.1% of the portfolio's total holdings. But that's the only thing small about this leading innovator in biopharmaceuticals that has seen its stock price grow 53% over the past year -- crushing the S&P 500's 14.7% one-year return.AbbVie has experienced strong growth of its best-selling drug, Humira, which helped the company realize a 22.7% increase in net revenue in 2021. That growth is expected to continue with an 8% increase in sales for Humira during 2022, but could come to a screeching slowdown in 2023. The company estimates a 45% erosion in sales as a result of biosimilar competition entering the U.S. market on the heels of an expiring patent, with a rebound not expected to happen until 2024.To offset those losses, the company is depending on a spike in sales of two potential successors to Humira, Rinvoq and Skyrizi. Together these two medications brought in a combined $4.5 billion in 2021 and are expected to reach $15 billion in 2025. AbbVie is also seeing positive results from its Allergan acquisition in 2020, which netted the company Botox, contributing nearly $5 billion to total sales in 2021.Going forward, the company has high expectations for a post-COVID rebound in sales of two leading cancer treatment drugs, as well as a pipeline of late-stage programs in cancer treatment. In total, the company has 13 drugs in phase 3 trials across immunology, neuroscience, eye care, oncology, and gastroenterology. Some of these drugs are already approved for certain indications, which could lead to a smoother path toward approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.AbbVie also offers a quarterly dividend that can help keep investors engaged during times of trouble. If you include the time before AbbVie was spun off from Abbott Laboratories, the company has been increasing its annual dividend for 50 years, placing it among the elite class of Dividend Kings. At the current share price, the stock's annual payout of $5.64 per share results in yield of 3.5%. Over the long term, this can be quite a hefty sum due to compounding gains.A robust pipeline of drugs combined with a hefty dividend yield of 3.5% that leads most of its big-cap pharma peers makes AbbVie a Buffett-backed stock I'd see no problem investing $1,000 in.Verizon: Checking off boxes to keep investors satisfiedVerizon ranks ninth in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio of 47 stocks in terms of portfolio holding and total value. But the company's investors have not been exempt from the broader market volatility that has impacted tech stocks, as Verizon's stock price has seen a 15% decline since May of last year.Fortunately, CEO Hans Vestberg, who came on board in 2018 after a stint as chief technology officer, has a clear plan in place that could trigger a rebound. It includes reducing the company's capital intensity to under 12%, growing dividends, paying down debt, and speeding up a timeline for share repurchases.Boxes are already being checked off for that plan. Verizon's Q4 report highlighted a 6.5% year-over-year growth in wireless services revenue, driven by higher revenue per account, meaning existing customers are spending more. Growth is also coming from an increase in subscriptions for wireless and broadband. FiOS (its bundled service for internet, cable, and telephone) finished Q4 of last year with a 5.7% year-over-year spike in revenue, allowing the company to post its best full-year performance for FiOS since 2014.The company expects to check off a few more boxes during 2022, starting with a continued quarterly dividend payout of $0.64 per share, to be paid on May 2 to investors of record on April 8. This represents a 5% dividend yield, topping the telecom sector average of 4.36%.By year-end, the company is looking to complete an accelerated plan to bring 5G ultra wideband service to an additional 30 major markets serving over 175 million people -- a full year ahead of schedule. Ultimately, Verizon's technological advancements should lead to new revenue, supported by acquisitions in the telecom space and collaborations with companies such as Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) as the two work toward building out the immersive digital world referred to as the metaverse.Verizon investors should stand to gain from continued dividends and a wireless market that is projected to grow at a 15.4% compound annual rate through 2027. The company's shares currently trade at a P/E ratio of 9.6, far below the wireless telecom industry average of 30. All in all, Verizon is an excellent opportunity for long-term investors who are looking for somewhere to invest $1,000.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":292,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9035276907,"gmtCreate":1647618557222,"gmtModify":1676534251686,"author":{"id":"3576269770454358","authorId":"3576269770454358","name":"Fattwong56","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fbd323d16c92e97cfde30bf618a9c01f","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576269770454358","authorIdStr":"3576269770454358"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9035276907","repostId":"1155080326","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1155080326","pubTimestamp":1647593750,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1155080326?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-18 16:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"FedEx, GameStop, CNFinance and United States Steel: What to Watch in the Stock Market Today","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1155080326","media":"benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:FedEx Corporation FDX reported weaker-than","content":"

Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:

FedEx Corporation FDX reported weaker-than-expected earnings for its third quarter, while sales exceeded estimates.
