Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
\n
Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.
\n
As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.
\n
This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.
\n
Both the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.
\n
Clearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”
\n
As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.
\n
What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.
\n
The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.
\n
This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.
\n
However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.
\n
Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential
\n
I’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.
\n
The company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.
\n
The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.
\n
Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.\nInstead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.\nAs a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.\nThis “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.\nBoth the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.\nClearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”\nAs someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.\nWhat Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.\nThe good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.\nThis is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.\nHowever, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.\nTaking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential\nI’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio back in February.\nThe company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.\nThe company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.\nNow, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.\nWith the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.\nThat means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.\nShares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”\nInterestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. Strong demand in China even inspired a Citigroup analyst to upgrade NIO to a buy rating, as he expects demand to accelerate in the coming months.\nIn other words, NIO represents thecrème de la crèmeof EV stocks right now.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":571,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":164438475,"gmtCreate":1624232819397,"gmtModify":1703830921592,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"The future of Saas","listText":"The future of Saas","text":"The future of Saas","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3553ebf25a11237da37ccf346f6e0eaa","width":"750","height":"1570"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/164438475","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":98,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165542244,"gmtCreate":1624153369788,"gmtModify":1703829493423,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"??","listText":"??","text":"??","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/165542244","repostId":"1199331995","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":42,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581829959470650","authorId":"3581829959470650","name":"ccwee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/652d99331e3c23c682d7e58cfc9f6544","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3581829959470650","authorIdStr":"3581829959470650"},"content":"liked n comment tks","text":"liked n comment tks","html":"liked n comment tks"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166465968,"gmtCreate":1624023186754,"gmtModify":1703826813067,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"???","listText":"???","text":"???","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8efc62bc5877e24f995d8921c1b50924","width":"750","height":"1670"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/166465968","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":21,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":187995980,"gmtCreate":1623733557140,"gmtModify":1704209914515,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Shares of Companies that constantly innovate and improve themselves will always go up in the long run :) ","listText":"Shares of Companies that constantly innovate and improve themselves will always go up in the long run :) ","text":"Shares of Companies that constantly innovate and improve themselves will always go up in the long run :)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/187995980","repostId":"1109511555","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1109511555","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623727571,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1109511555?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-15 11:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Plans Faster Watch, Future Temperature and Glucose Sensors","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109511555","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Updated screens and performance this year, new functions later. Photographer: Nina Riggio/Bloomberg
\n
Apple Inc. is working on new Apple Watch models and health features, spanning display and speed upgrades, an extreme sports edition and body temperature and blood sugar sensors.
\n
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant is planning to refresh the line this year -- with a model likely dubbed the Apple Watch Series 7 -- by adding a faster processor, improved wireless connectivity and an updated screen, according to people with knowledge of the plans. Next year the company plans to update the main Apple Watch alongside a successor for the lower-end Apple Watch SE and a new version targeting extreme sports athletes.
\n
Apple had previously aimed to put a body temperature sensor in this year’s model, but that is now more likely to be included in the 2022 update. The blood-sugar sensor, which would help diabetics monitor their glucose levels, is unlikely to be ready for commercial launch for several more years.
\n
For this year’s model, Apple has tested thinner display borders and a new lamination technique that brings the display closer to the front cover. The new Watch is likely to be slightly thicker overall, but not in a way that’s noticeable to the user.
\n
The model will include updated ultra-wideband functionality, the same underlying technology in the Apple AirTag item finder. At its developer conference in early June, Apple previewed the upcoming watchOS 8 software update that will let the device unlock door and hotel rooms.
\n
The extreme sports model, described by some inside Apple as either an “explorer” or “adventure” edition, was in development for release as early as this year, but it is now more likely to launch in 2022. That new model would help Apple compete with rugged offerings from players like Garmin Ltd. and Casio Computer Co.
\n
An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment. The company’s plans remain fluid and could change, the people said.
\n
Luxshare Precision Industry Co. is the primary assembler for the main Apple Watch, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., or Foxconn, shares some of those orders in addition to splitting assembly of the Apple Watch SE with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics Inc.
\n
Measuring body temperature became an essential part of Covid-19 detection, prompting a surge in demand for gadgets such as the Withings Thermo. Some companies offer small digital thermometers that plug into a smartphone’s charging port. Adding the functionality into its watch would help Apple match other smartwatches and fitness bands, including products from Alphabet Inc.-owned Fitbit.
\n
Blood sugar monitoring has been long in the works at Apple and would be a feature thus far unrivaled by competitors. Apple and others currently rely on apps that let users input their glucose levels manually, while medical device companies like Dexcom Inc. offer blood sugar monitors that share data with the Apple Watch. Users typically need to prick their finger to draw blood for an accurate glucose test, but Apple is aiming for a non-invasive solution that can analyze blood through the skin.
\n
Since going on sale in 2015, the Apple Watch has grown into a key part of Apple’s product portfolio. Along with the iPhone and iPad, it fills out the company’s hardware ecosystem and helped Apple’s broader wearables, home and accessories category generate more than $30 billion last fiscal year.
","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Plans Faster Watch, Future Temperature and Glucose Sensors
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nApple Plans Faster Watch, Future Temperature and Glucose Sensors\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-15 11:26 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Updated screens and performance this year, new functions later\nNew entry-level and extreme sports models planned for 2022\n\nA customer tries on an Apple watch at a store in Palo Alto, California. ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-14/apple-plans-faster-watch-future-temperature-and-glucose-sensors","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1109511555","content_text":"Updated screens and performance this year, new functions later\nNew entry-level and extreme sports models planned for 2022\n\nA customer tries on an Apple watch at a store in Palo Alto, California. At its developer conference in early June, Apple previewed the upcoming watchOS 8 software update that will let the device unlock door and hotel rooms.\nThe extreme sports model, described by some inside Apple as either an “explorer” or “adventure” edition, was in development for release as early as this year, but it is now more likely to launch in 2022. That new model would help Apple compete with rugged offerings from players like Garmin Ltd. and Casio Computer Co.\nAn Apple spokeswoman declined to comment. The company’s plans remain fluid and could change, the people said.\nLuxshare Precision Industry Co. is the primary assembler for the main Apple Watch, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., or Foxconn, shares some of those orders in addition to splitting assembly of the Apple Watch SE with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics Inc.\nMeasuring body temperature became an essential part of Covid-19 detection, prompting a surge in demand for gadgets such as the Withings Thermo. Some companies offer small digital thermometers that plug into a smartphone’s charging port. Adding the functionality into its watch would help Apple match other smartwatches and fitness bands, including products from Alphabet Inc.-owned Fitbit.\nBlood sugar monitoring has been long in the works at Apple and would be a feature thus far unrivaled by competitors. Apple and others currently rely on apps that let users input their glucose levels manually, while medical device companies like Dexcom Inc. offer blood sugar monitors that share data with the Apple Watch. Users typically need to prick their finger to draw blood for an accurate glucose test, but Apple is aiming for a non-invasive solution that can analyze blood through the skin.\nSince going on sale in 2015, the Apple Watch has grown into a key part of Apple’s product portfolio. Along with the iPhone and iPad, it fills out the company’s hardware ecosystem and helped Apple’s broader wearables, home and accessories category generate more than $30 billion last fiscal year.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":149,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186187206,"gmtCreate":1623478625005,"gmtModify":1704204792871,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Advanced Semiconductor Engineering(ASX)$Seems like stock keeps trading on the side line despite good fundamentals… ","listText":"$Advanced Semiconductor Engineering(ASX)$Seems like stock keeps trading on the side line despite good fundamentals… ","text":"$Advanced Semiconductor Engineering(ASX)$Seems like stock keeps trading on the side line despite good fundamentals…","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/186187206","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":122,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186186499,"gmtCreate":1623478439711,"gmtModify":1704204788168,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like pls:) ","listText":"Comment and like pls:) ","text":"Comment and like pls:)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/186186499","repostId":"1135185071","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1135185071","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623425954,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1135185071?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-11 23:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Taiwan Semiconductor Is the World’s Most Important Chip Maker. The company is a critical supplier to U.S. technology giants likeApple(AAPL) andQualcomm(QCOM) and Chinese companies like Huawei Technologies. TSMC’s stock is widely held across the globe, and for good reason. It has returned an annualized 29% over the past decade.
\n
But TSMC shares are now caught up in a rare correction. The stock is down 15% since mid-February. Investors should avoid the temptation to buy on the dip, at least for now. A confluence of factors could make the next couple of quarters bumpy enough to give long-term investors a chance to scoop up shares of the tech juggernaut at an even cheaper price.
\n
To be sure, the long-term opportunity hasn’t changed. If oil was the crucial commodity of the past, semiconductors are the critical commodity of the future—and TSMC is a leader in making the advanced chips needed for 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and electric vehicles.
\n
Founded in 1987, the Taiwanese company accounts for roughly 60% of outsourced chip manufacturing and 90% of the profits. TSMC has made significant investment in its foundries, helping it manufacture ever-denser chips that generate more power while using less energy. RivalIntel(INTC) has struggled to match that success.
\n
Even the lone analyst with a Sell rating on TSMC stock sings the company’s praises: “This is an A-plus company with solid management,” says Mehdi Hosseini, senior equity analyst at Susquehanna Financial Group, who has covered TSMC for more than 20 years. But Hosseini says he can’t ignore the near-term challenges and the pricey stock.
\n
Despite the recent selloff, TSMC shares are still up 110% over the past 12 months, and they trade at 27 times earnings estimates for the next 12 months, well above the stock’s five-year average of 19.
\n
That elevated multiple doesn’t offer much cushion if and when challenges arise. Some money managers caution that near-term demand may not live up to analysts’ rosy forecasts for the next couple of quarters. Also, increased spending by TSMC and its rivals to meet a surge in demand could dent profit margins.
\n
Meanwhile, escalating geopolitical tensions put Taiwan, a self-ruled democracy that China considers a province, and its most important company in a fraught position.
\n
Daiwa Capital Markets analyst Rick Hsu is concerned that the chip shortage—which has hobbled automotive plants and sent gamers scrambling to find new consoles—could create inventory-related issues in the first half of 2022.
\n
Hsu toldBarron’sin an email that TSMC’s stock needs to shed another 15%, to about $100, to adequately reflect the current risk profile. The stock recently closed at $118.
\n
Lackluster demand related to smartphones, which accounts for 45% of revenue, could also lead to disappointment. With TSMC profit margins already near a peak, future growth will require a boost in sales. That could be challenging in the near term. Apple’s iPhone 13 is unlikely to offer a major catalyst, while Chinese smartphone vendors don’t currently have the killer app needed to drive upgrades, Hosseini says.
\n
“You can’t just give it multiple expansion because it’s a great company. You need earnings power,” Hosseini says, noting that the company trades at a significant premium to theS&P 500 index. He has a price target of $85, putting him far outside the consensus. Wall Street’s average price target on TSMC is $141.
\n
Analysts, on average, expect TSMC’s earnings to increase 14% to $4.06 a share this year, and 16% to $4.69 a share next year, with revenue growing 16% to $55.8 billion this year, and another 16% next year.
\n
Chips on the Table
\n
Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing have returned an annual average of 25% over the last decade.
\n

\n
In April, TSMC CEO C.C. When Gelsinger unveiled the company’s plans for the future in late March,Intel (ticker: INTC) said it expected full-year earnings of $4 a share from revenue of $76.5 billion. Including various adjustments, such as those related to Intel’s sale of its flash-memory business in 2020, EPS is likely to be $4.55, while revenue is expected to be $72 billion, the company said.
\n
As part of the plan, Intel said it would once again license its x86 chip designs to other companies, and create a foundry services unit that would produce chips for third parties interested in paying Intel to fabricate semiconductors.
\n
Intel didn’t issue precise new financial guidance for the first quarter, but said it expected results better than its prior forecast. Previously, Intel said it expected adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.10 a share and revenue of $17.5 billion. The consensus forecast is for adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share from revenue of $17.74 billion.
\n
Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland, who called the company’s full-year guidance “underwhelming,” said he is expecting investors to focus on Gelsinger’s long-term plans for the company, and to look for more details about Intel’s next generation chip-making technology. According to the analyst’s data sources, notebook sales were strong in the first quarter, but it is less clear what’s coming through the rest of the year.
\n
Analysts predict that Intel’s client computing segment, which includes notebook sales, will report first-quarter revenue of $10.02 billion. That is the company’s largest segment, followed by the data center operation, which is expected to report revenue of $5.84 billion.
\n
Despite Intel’s decision to double down on its manufacturing capabilities, BMO Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava wrote in a client note Monday that he isn’t expecting executives to offer details about its goals, and their effect on Intel’s financial performance.
\n
Still, Srivastava said, investors should watch closely for commentary about the impact to the company’s capital spending, profit, and free cash flow, among other things.
\n
Intel’s report arrives amid a global shortage of semiconductors that is hurting production of goods ranging from appliances to cars and videogame consoles. Gelsinger has previously told Barron’s that he expects the chip shortage to last two years.
\n
Of the analysts that cover Intel, 43% rate shares at Buy, 34% have Hold ratings, and 23% rate the stock at Sell. The average target for the stock price is $68.71, which implies a return of 8.6%.
\n
Intel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. Shares in the chip maker have gained 12% in the past year, while the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, has doubled.
\n
Rolland pointed out that since Intel’s most recent quarterly report, its stock has gained 14%, while the Sox rose 5.8%. The analyst said that outperformance may indicate that expectations for the earnings are high, a potential negative for the stock.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Intel Reports Earnings Thursday. Including various adjustments, such as those related to Intel’s sale of its flash-memory business in 2020, EPS is likely to be $4.55, while revenue is expected to be $72 billion, the company said.\nAs part of the plan, Intel said it would once again license its x86 chip designs to other companies, and create a foundry services unit that would produce chips for third parties interested in paying Intel to fabricate semiconductors.\nIntel didn’t issue precise new financial guidance for the first quarter, but said it expected results better than its prior forecast. Previously, Intel said it expected adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.10 a share and revenue of $17.5 billion. The consensus forecast is for adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share from revenue of $17.74 billion.\nSusquehanna Financial Group analyst Christopher Rolland, who called the company’s full-year guidance “underwhelming,” said he is expecting investors to focus on Gelsinger’s long-term plans for the company, and to look for more details about Intel’s next generation chip-making technology. According to the analyst’s data sources, notebook sales were strong in the first quarter, but it is less clear what’s coming through the rest of the year.\nAnalysts predict that Intel’s client computing segment, which includes notebook sales, will report first-quarter revenue of $10.02 billion. That is the company’s largest segment, followed by the data center operation, which is expected to report revenue of $5.84 billion.\nDespite Intel’s decision to double down on its manufacturing capabilities, BMO Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava wrote in a client note Monday that he isn’t expecting executives to offer details about its goals, and their effect on Intel’s financial performance.\nStill, Srivastava said, investors should watch closely for commentary about the impact to the company’s capital spending, profit, and free cash flow, among other things.\nIntel’s report arrives amid a global shortage of semiconductors that is hurting production of goods ranging from appliances to cars and videogame consoles. Gelsinger has previously told Barron’s that he expects the chip shortage to last two years.\nOf the analysts that cover Intel, 43% rate shares at Buy, 34% have Hold ratings, and 23% rate the stock at Sell. The average target for the stock price is $68.71, which implies a return of 8.6%.\nIntel stock advanced 1.6% to $63.70 in Wednesday trading. Shares in the chip maker have gained 12% in the past year, while the PHLX Semiconductor index, or Sox, has doubled.\nRolland pointed out that since Intel’s most recent quarterly report, its stock has gained 14%, while the Sox rose 5.8%. The analyst said that outperformance may indicate that expectations for the earnings are high, a potential negative for the stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":156,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186186499,"gmtCreate":1623478439711,"gmtModify":1704204788168,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like pls:) ","listText":"Comment and like pls:) ","text":"Comment and like pls:)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/186186499","repostId":"1135185071","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":70,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":108537842,"gmtCreate":1620039902186,"gmtModify":1704337712669,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like and comment ","listText":"Pls like and comment ","text":"Pls like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/108537842","repostId":"1135819410","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1135819410","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619999342,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1135819410?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-03 07:49","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Uber, Pfizer, PayPal, T-Mobile, ViacomCBS, General Motors, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1135819410","media":"Barrons","summary":"It’s another packed week of earnings reports, with 130 S&P 500 companies on deck to release their fi","content":"
It’s another packed week of earnings reports, with 130 S&P 500 companies on deck to release their first-quarter results. High-growth stocks are facing steeper hurdles from rising bond yields. Investors appear to be rotating from growth to value and into sectors with more exposure to a cyclical economic recovery.

Quite simply, fatigue may be setting into overcrowded trades and investment themes—whether those are alternative-meat producers, a travel recovery, green energy, or the continued domination of Big Tech.

Against that backdrop, investors may want to tread cautiously. One way to do so: Avoid stocks with low earnings quality and high short interest—meaning there are short positions, or bearish bets, on a large percentage of a company’s shares outstanding. (A short position is when investors borrow and then sell shares, betting that a stock’s price will fall so they can buy shares back at a cheaper price.) Stocks with that combination of attributes may be most at risk of underperforming or blowing up, according to Wolfe Research.

The firm ranks stocks on a relative basis within sectors by scoring earnings quality on seven financial measures, while also looking at valuation and sentiment indicators, based on fourth-quarter financials.

Wolfe calls stocks scoring in the bottom 10% of earnings quality, while also seeing high short interest, “our highest conviction cohort of stocks to avoid.”

One caveat: Low-quality stocks have been a popular trade—fueled by ample market liquidity and demand for riskier assets. High short interest also primes a stock for a short-squeeze, whereby traders who are short buy the stock to cover their positions, exerting upward pressure on the price. Nothing illustrates that dynamic more than the frenzied trading around GameStop (ticker: GME) this year.

Beauty products maker Coty (COTY), for example, shows up on Wolfe’s screen. But it may have already had its blowup, falling 15% the day it released its earnings report in February. Barron’s was bullish on the stock in the aftermath, and it has been moving up since then.

Nonetheless, plenty of other stocks on Wolfe’s watch list do seem vulnerable. Many have surged in a reopening trade or company-specific dynamics, and all trade at steep valuations. Here are 10 stocks from Wolfe’s list:

Carvana (CVNA), for instance, has been a blockbuster, gaining 535% over the last 52 weeks. Investors appear to have decided that it is a disruptive force in car buying and that a pandemic-fueled shift to online sales has accelerated its momentum. However, Carvana isn’t close to reporting a profit, and is expected to lose $1.96 a share this year and 97 cents in 2022.

The stock is up around 11% this year, but it has been wobbling lately and is down from its 52-week high around $315, trading recently at $287. Short interest is high at 22% of the shares outstanding, according to FactSet.

Expedia Group (EXPE) has surged 32% this year. Investors expect online bookings volume to soar as consumers head for vacations this summer and fall. Wall Street doesn’t see Expedia Group earning a profit this year but expects big gains in 2022 with earnings per share of $6.04. At recent prices around $175, shares trade at 28 times 2022 earnings, a 40% premium to the S&P 500 ‘s multiple of 20 times.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) is also trading on hopes for a travel rebound in 2022. Wall Street expects revenues of $1.6 billion this year, up from $1.3 billion in 2020. But the stock is riding on expectations of a surge to $6 billion in revenue in 2022. Analysts are looking for earnings of 62 cents a share in 2022, up from an expected loss of $5.87 a share this year. The stock has climbed 218% in the last 52 weeks, and it is powering ahead this year, up 21% so far.

It’s hardly cheap, though, at 50 times estimated 2022 profits. About 13% of the shares are held short, according to FactSet.

Lyft (LYFT) also fits into the reopening theme; shares are up 178% in the last 52 weeks, including a 35% gain this year. Ride-sharing could pick up as more people head to work, meetings, and evenings out.

However, Lyft and its chief rival Uber Technologies (UBER) face rising labor costs and regulatory hurdles in Europe and other regions. Wall Street sees Lyft losing $1.08 a share this year and turning a modest profit of 17 cents in 2022. That gives it a multiple of 379 times 2022 earnings. Short interest is around 9%.

Restoration Hardware parent Restoration Hardware (RH) has been a stay-at-home winner. The stock soared 338% over the last year and it’s ahead 5% this year. The company is profitable, expected to earn $19.17 a share this year, up from an estimated $17.05 in 2020. But the stock hit a rough patch in early March as high-growth, high-multiple stocks sold off.

RH trades at 22 times 2022 earnings, which doesn’t look excessive. But It is now vulnerable to a blowup, according to Wolfe, with short-interest at 11% of the float.

Beyond Meat (BYND) has long been a battleground between alt-meat bulls and bears. The stock has surged 93% over the last 52 weeks, defying the bears, but at recent prices around $142, it’s off 36% from its 52-week high of $221.

The alt-meat trend is going strong, and Beyond is working its way into more restaurants and supermarkets, while expanding its product line. But alt-meat rivals are gaining traction. Beyond’s profits aren’t expected to roll in until 2022, when the firm is anticipated to earn 23 cents a share. At that level of profit, the stock trades at 621 times earnings.

Stocks like Beyond trade on underlying business momentum, making earnings less of a share-price driver. Still, it isn’t encouraging that Wall Street sees the losses piling up. Per-share estimates for 2021 have been lowered 12% in the last week, according to FactSet, and 2021 estimates are down 190% in the past three months.

Meanwhile, First Solar (FSLR) is riding a wave of investor demand for green stocks from ESG funds and others looking for exposure to clean energy. The company, which makes solar power systems and modules, has gained 124% over the last 52 weeks. The company has reported strong sales and bookings, but the stock is also baking in friendly climate policies from the Biden administration.

The stock has been wavering, however, after its big run. It has slumped 17% this year and it’s off more than 20% from 52-week highs around $112, recently trading around $82. Despite a favorable backdrop for green energy, First Solar’s sales and earnings are expected to fall slightly from 2021 to 2022. High-growth stocks are facing steeper hurdles from rising bond yields. Investors appear to be rotating from growth to value and into sectors with more exposure to a cyclical economic recovery.Quite simply, fatigue may be setting into overcrowded trades and investment themes—whether those are alternative-meat producers, a travel recovery, green energy, or the continued domination of Big Tech.Against that backdrop, investors may want to tread cautiously. The firm ranks stocks on a relative basis within sectors by scoring earnings quality on seven financial measures, while also looking at valuation and sentiment indicators, based on fourth-quarter financials.Wolfe calls stocks scoring in the bottom 10% of earnings quality, while also seeing high short interest, “our highest conviction cohort of stocks to avoid.”One caveat: Low-quality stocks have been a popular trade—fueled by ample market liquidity and demand for riskier assets. High short interest also primes a stock for a short-squeeze, whereby traders who are short buy the stock to cover their positions, exerting upward pressure on the price. Nothing illustrates that dynamic more than the frenzied trading around GameStop (ticker: GME) this year.Beauty products maker Coty (COTY), for example, shows up on Wolfe’s screen. But it may have already had its blowup, falling 15% the day it released its earnings report in February. Barron’s was bullish on the stock in the aftermath, and it has been moving up since then.Nonetheless, plenty of other stocks on Wolfe’s watch list do seem vulnerable. Many have surged in a reopening trade or company-specific dynamics, and all trade at steep valuations. Here are 10 stocks from Wolfe’s list:Carvana (CVNA), for instance, has been a blockbuster, gaining 535% over the last 52 weeks. Investors appear to have decided that it is a disruptive force in car buying and that a pandemic-fueled shift to online sales has accelerated its momentum. However, Carvana isn’t close to reporting a profit, and is expected to lose $1.96 a share this year and 97 cents in 2022.The stock is up around 11% this year, but it has been wobbling lately and is down from its 52-week high around $315, trading recently at $287. Short interest is high at 22% of the shares outstanding, according to FactSet.Expedia Group (EXPE) has surged 32% this year. Investors expect online bookings volume to soar as consumers head for vacations this summer and fall. Wall Street doesn’t see Expedia Group earning a profit this year but expects big gains in 2022 with earnings per share of $6.04. At recent prices around $175, shares trade at 28 times 2022 earnings, a 40% premium to the S&P 500 ‘s multiple of 20 times.Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) is also trading on hopes for a travel rebound in 2022. About 13% of the shares are held short, according to FactSet.Lyft (LYFT) also fits into the reopening theme; shares are up 178% in the last 52 weeks, including a 35% gain this year. Short interest is around 9%.Restoration Hardware parent Restoration Hardware (RH) has been a stay-at-home winner. The stock soared 338% over the last year and it’s ahead 5% this year. The company is profitable, expected to earn $19.17 a share this year, up from an estimated $17.05 in 2020. But the stock hit a rough patch in early March as high-growth, high-multiple stocks sold off.RH trades at 22 times 2022 earnings, which doesn’t look excessive. But It is now vulnerable to a blowup, according to Wolfe, with short-interest at 11% of the float.Beyond Meat (BYND) has long been a battleground between alt-meat bulls and bears. The stock has surged 93% over the last 52 weeks, defying the bears, but at recent prices around $142, it’s off 36% from its 52-week high of $221.The alt-meat trend is going strong, and Beyond is working its way into more restaurants and supermarkets, while expanding its product line. But alt-meat rivals are gaining traction. Beyond’s profits aren’t expected to roll in until 2022, when the firm is anticipated to earn 23 cents a share. At that level of profit, the stock trades at 621 times earnings.Stocks like Beyond trade on underlying business momentum, making earnings less of a share-price driver. Still, it isn’t encouraging that Wall Street sees the losses piling up. Per-share estimates for 2021 have been lowered 12% in the last week, according to FactSet, and 2021 estimates are down 190% in the past three months.Meanwhile, First Solar (FSLR) is riding a wave of investor demand for green stocks from ESG funds and others looking for exposure to clean energy. The stock trades at 24 times 2022 earnings, a premium to the market.Other large-cap stocks that make Wolfe’s blowup watch list include BioMarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN), Zendesk (ZEN), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Zendesk and AMD are each up more than 100% over the last year, while BioMarin has been flat. All trade at steep valuations, with Zendesk topping the list at 130 times 2022 earnings estimates.A blowup may not be imminent in any of these names, but stocks without a significant profit in sight may fall sharply if market jitters resurface and investors start to appreciate higher earnings quality.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":9,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":138999995,"gmtCreate":1621903783317,"gmtModify":1704364100145,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Perhaps it would have a first mover advantage! The company issued shares at $17 each, which was at the top of the $15-to-$17 range, and raised $1.4 billion. (See IPO Calendar on TipRanks)The underwriters on the deal included Morgan Stanley (MS), J.P. Morgan (JPM), Credit Suisse (CS), Barclays (BCS), Jefferies, BNP Paribas, BofA Securities (BAC), Piper Sandler, and RBC Capital Markets. On the first day of trading, the shares shot up 19% to $20.20 and the market capitalization came to roughly $12 billion. The company, which was founded in 1990, is a leader in oat milk.Last July, Oatly raised $200 million in funding that was led by the Blackstone Group (BX). The other investors included Natalie Portman, Oprah Winfrey, and Howard Schultz, who is the co-founder of Starbucks (SUBX). The valuation at the time was $2 billion, so the company has seen a major surge in valuation in a relatively short period of time. (See Oatly stock chart on TipRanks)Background on OatlyThe cofounders of Oatly include Rickard Öste, a food scientist, and his brother Bjorn. They were based in Malmö, Sweden, and bootstrapped their business. The brothers saw oat milk as a much better alternative to traditional milk or other milk substitutes. For one, many people believe that it mixes better with coffee than other milk alternatives. It also has environmental advantages: it uses less water than other alternatives and saves about 80% in greenhouse gas emissions.According to the shareholder letter in the S-1 filing, CEO Toni Petersson noted: “We list all the ingredients that go into our products and where they come from so people know exactly what they are putting into their bodies. We work with dairy farmers in Sweden and the United States to explore the sustainability and economic benefits of a shift to oat crops. We were the first company in Europe to use a fleet of electric trucks for heavy-duty commercial shipping.”In terms of the strategy, the initial focus was on northern Europe. But in 2016, Oatly invested heavily in the U.S. market. Initially, the company focused on baristas, which helped to spark growth. Oatly has also formed partnerships with Starbucks and Target (TGT). Currently, Oatly’s products are sold in more than 20 countries.High Growth and Massive PotentialThe growth ramp has definitely been impressive. Last year, revenues soared 107% to $421.4 million. And while the company has continued to lose money, with the net losses coming to $60.4 million in 2020, losses have been necessary for the global expansion efforts. The market is also massive. The global dairy alternatives market size was estimated at $20.5 billion in 2020. In 2021, the market is expected to reach $23.2 billion, according to a report by Grand View Research. No doubt, major trends are propelling the adoption of oat milk. After all, more people are looking for healthier offerings and younger generations like Millennials and Gen Z consumers want food that is sensitive to environmental concerns.Bottom Line On OatlyOatly does have some downside. First of all, when it comes to food items, there is always the possibility that they will become a passing fad. There is also the nagging issue of copycats edging in on Oatly's business.Yet perhaps the biggest problem with Oatly stock is its valuation. Even if there is a small deceleration in its growth, this could put considerable pressure on the shares. As a result, it’s probably best to hold off and wait for the hype to subside before making a purchase on this one.Disclosure: Tom Taulli does not have a position in Oatly stock.Disclaimer: The information contained herein is for informational purposes only.
The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.
\n
With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.
\n
That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.
\n
Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”
\n
Interestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. Semiconductors -- the basic yet incredibly sophisticated components in most every modern device -- took centerstage in a 250-page White House report, which highlighted Beijing’s “ultimate goal of cyber sovereignty and establishing first-mover advantage.”
\n
The U.S. Senate expressed bipartisan support by passing a bill offering $52 billion to bolster domestic chip manufacturing the same day. That’s aimed at reassuring industry leaders like Intel Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. as they consider expanding investments in production capacity in the country. It’s a hefty pledge, but the money will go fast in an era where a single advanced wafer fab runs more than $10 billion.
\n
China has made technology advances a major plank of its 14th five-year plan, with President Xi Jinping pledging $1.4 trillion over six years to secure a lead in sectors like chips, artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. South Korean companies like Samsung and SK Hynix Inc. are committing $450 billion over a decade on chip research and expansion, while TSMC alone has earmarked $100 billion over the next three years.
\n
“$50 billion is a great start but this is an expensive industry with heavy levels of subsidies being proposed across multiple geographies,” said Anne Hoecker, a partner at Bain Capital. The investment “provides more assurance for semi manufacturers to make large, multi-year investments.”
\n
Biden is demonstrating a willingness to break with the laissez-faire traditions of the U.S., calculating the semiconductor industry merits a different approach given the deep government involvement in other countries. He has powerful allies in his corner, in nations that command leads in different sectors of the giant global chipmaking apparatus.
\n
Among the goals outlined in Tuesday’s report is an effort to entice more private investment from abroad and leverage U.S. diplomatic muscle. TSMC and Samsung are currently in talks to secure vital incentives to build advanced chip plants in the U.S., which would instantly elevate both U.S. semiconductor know-how and capacity.
\n
The White House also called for effective multilateral export controls that would “protect U.S. national security interests by limiting advanced semiconductor capabilities in countries of concern.”
\n
The Netherlands is home to ASML Holding NV, which enjoys a virtual monopoly over the market for advanced extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment -- essential in making the most advanced 5-nanometer chips and beyond. It’s been unable to ship any EUV systems to China as the Dutch government hasn’t renewed its export licenses for Chinese customers. Meanwhile, Japan’s Tokyo Electron Ltd. and Nikon Corp. supply sophisticated gear to first-tier chipmakers such as Intel and also Chinese companies.
\n
Biden’s plan is in part a reflection of a growing concern globally. The world’s heavy dependence on a handful of crucial Asian-based chip suppliers like TSMC was exposed this year after a global supply crisis idled factories at several U.S. automakers, threatening to cut $110 billion in sales.
\n
China’s rising threat is the other long-term danger. The country remains at least several generations behind Taiwan and the U.S. in chip design sophistication. But China’s track record of being the world’s factory floor and vast reams of data could give it a leg up in certain pivotal segments, such as the labor-intensive but vital work of assembling and packaging semiconductors, or the younger field of AI-enabled chips.
\n
In a sign of the urgency of that effort, the nation’s top semiconductor executives and senior policy makers converged on Nanjing this week for the three-day World Semiconductor Conference to brainstorm future approaches and cement alliances.
\n
Advanced chip packaging offers China a chance to push performance by combining a number of chips in one package, but it’s ultimately not a replacement for fundamental semiconductor development, Bain’s Hoecker said.
\n
“China has been chasing the rest of the world over the past decade. But as the performance of chips increases significantly slower today than in previous years, it’s for sure that China will be able to close the gap with the leaders,” said Wu Hanming, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a state-backed research institute that houses elite scientists.
\n
In the short term, Biden’s blueprint promises a shot in the arm. A $50 billion federal program to incentivize domestic semiconductor manufacturing would add $24.6 billion annually to the U.S. economy, the Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics estimate. It would generate 280,000 permanent jobs, of which 42,000 would be employed in the semiconductor industry directly.
\n
“The U.S. semiconductor goal is simpler than China’s. It only needs to reshore chip manufacturing, and is already well on the path to doing so,” said Dan Wang, technology analyst at Gavekal Dragonomics. “China’s challenge is to master not only the manufacturing of chips, but also invent the equipment -- which are some of the most complex instruments in the world -- to produce them.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Biden Will Need More Than $52 Billion to Counter China in Chips
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBiden Will Need More Than $52 Billion to Counter China in Chips\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-09 21:24 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- President Joe Biden’s blueprint for the U.S. semiconductor industry marks an ambitious effort to set industrial policy for a critical sector of the economy, but the strategy will need ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"INTC":"英特尔","TSM":"台积电","ASML":"阿斯麦","CAAS":"中汽系统"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/biden-more-52-billion-counter-110311725.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2142069216","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- President Joe Biden’s blueprint for the U.S. semiconductor industry marks an ambitious effort to set industrial policy for a critical sector of the economy, but the strategy will need more money and global support to take back chip supremacy and preempt a rival effort from China.\nThe White House on Tuesday outlined a sweeping plan to secure the conduits for critical products from medicines to chips, responding in part to the growing economic and political sway of its Asian rival. He has powerful allies in his corner, in nations that command leads in different sectors of the giant global chipmaking apparatus.\nAmong the goals outlined in Tuesday’s report is an effort to entice more private investment from abroad and leverage U.S. diplomatic muscle. TSMC and Samsung are currently in talks to secure vital incentives to build advanced chip plants in the U.S., which would instantly elevate both U.S. semiconductor know-how and capacity.\nThe White House also called for effective multilateral export controls that would “protect U.S. national security interests by limiting advanced semiconductor capabilities in countries of concern.”\nThe Netherlands is home to ASML Holding NV, which enjoys a virtual monopoly over the market for advanced extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment -- essential in making the most advanced 5-nanometer chips and beyond. It’s been unable to ship any EUV systems to China as the Dutch government hasn’t renewed its export licenses for Chinese customers. Meanwhile, Japan’s Tokyo Electron Ltd. and Nikon Corp. supply sophisticated gear to first-tier chipmakers such as Intel and also Chinese companies.\nBiden’s plan is in part a reflection of a growing concern globally. The world’s heavy dependence on a handful of crucial Asian-based chip suppliers like TSMC was exposed this year after a global supply crisis idled factories at several U.S. automakers, threatening to cut $110 billion in sales.\nChina’s rising threat is the other long-term danger. The country remains at least several generations behind Taiwan and the U.S. in chip design sophistication. But China’s track record of being the world’s factory floor and vast reams of data could give it a leg up in certain pivotal segments, such as the labor-intensive but vital work of assembling and packaging semiconductors, or the younger field of AI-enabled chips.\nIn a sign of the urgency of that effort, the nation’s top semiconductor executives and senior policy makers converged on Nanjing this week for the three-day World Semiconductor Conference to brainstorm future approaches and cement alliances.\nAdvanced chip packaging offers China a chance to push performance by combining a number of chips in one package, but it’s ultimately not a replacement for fundamental semiconductor development, Bain’s Hoecker said.\n“China has been chasing the rest of the world over the past decade. But as the performance of chips increases significantly slower today than in previous years, it’s for sure that China will be able to close the gap with the leaders,” said Wu Hanming, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a state-backed research institute that houses elite scientists.\nIn the short term, Biden’s blueprint promises a shot in the arm. A $50 billion federal program to incentivize domestic semiconductor manufacturing would add $24.6 billion annually to the U.S. economy, the Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics estimate. It would generate 280,000 permanent jobs, of which 42,000 would be employed in the semiconductor industry directly.\n“The U.S. semiconductor goal is simpler than China’s. It only needs to reshore chip manufacturing, and is already well on the path to doing so,” said Dan Wang, technology analyst at Gavekal Dragonomics. “China’s challenge is to master not only the manufacturing of chips, but also invent the equipment -- which are some of the most complex instruments in the world -- to produce them.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":52,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":109239367,"gmtCreate":1619698217559,"gmtModify":1704728176827,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What are your price target for Nio? :) ","listText":"What are your price target for Nio? :) ","text":"What are your price target for Nio? :)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/109239367","repostId":"1183966356","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1183966356","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619665696,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1183966356?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-29 11:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"NIO Q1 2021 Earnings Report Preview: What to Look For","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1183966356","media":"InvestoPedia","summary":"Analysts estimate earnings per ADS of -0.72 yuan vs. -1.66 yuan in Q1 FY 2020.Revenue is expected to soar on expanding vehicle sales.NIO Inc. , like many other automakers, was forced to halt production this year due to the global semiconductor shortage. The rest of the FAANG stocks —Apple,Amazon,NetflixandGoogle parent Alphabet— have not broken through to their own since at least April.\nMichael Binger, president of Gradient Investments, says Facebook’s win streak is not over.\n“Facebook is continuing to be a buy for us. We own it I would add more if you don’t own it here. It’s the best consumer-driven internet play out there in my opinion. They’ve got a great advertising platform, 18 to 20% growth for the next several years. You’re getting that at a reasonable price,” Binger told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Tuesday.\nFacebook is the second-best FAANG performer this year, behind Alphabet, rising 22%.\nBut, that’s not the only stock in the bunch that Binger likes. He highlights Alphabet as one of his other top picks. On Alphabet, he says the company is a “leader of the pack” with its Google search and YouTube video platform.\nApple, too, is a buy for Binger after its sharp pullback. That stock has fallen 13% from a January peak.\n“I see Apple as a core holding, we own it, we love it and I think you could buy it right here on this pullback. The PE multiple has actually come down to the low-20s right now. So, I like Apple here,” he said.\nIn the same interview, Gina Sanchez, CEO of Chantico Global and chief market strategist at Lido Advisors, said Amazon looks to be one of the better picks of the bunch.\n“This is where that fine nuance between growth and price leads you to growth-at-a-reasonable price,” Sanchez said. “Amazon, even though it’s probably one of the most highly priced of all of the FAANGs, has a more interesting road ahead because they had strong growth during the pandemic. They’re probably going to lock in those consumers, their cloud business is still growing dramatically, and so the roadmap for them is very good.”\nAmazon trades at 51.5 times forward earnings. Facebook, the cheapest of the bunch, trades with a multiple of less than 24 times.\n“When you look at these interesting stocks, Amazon seems fairly priced given that it has still significant growth to come,” she said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":52,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":108512529,"gmtCreate":1620040433661,"gmtModify":1704337723545,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hold ","listText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hold ","text":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$hold","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/907495b499ee9abf12ca5faf2cc9308c","width":"828","height":"1434"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/108512529","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":221,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":157874984,"gmtCreate":1625579254848,"gmtModify":1703744218055,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"? up u go ","listText":"? up u go ","text":"? up u go","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/23e03bc2bef3b41d53bcf636eca77e8e","width":"750","height":"1507"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/157874984","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":360,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":155386017,"gmtCreate":1625376009339,"gmtModify":1703741022976,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"???","listText":"???","text":"???","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b797bbc4c66abba2e6c811a067bd9832","width":"750","height":"1570"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/155386017","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":630,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":158106644,"gmtCreate":1625133621188,"gmtModify":1703736814493,"author":{"id":"3576406572026158","authorId":"3576406572026158","name":"简约虎猫","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7e7ddaa1b09a9a40b325bb459058257e","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576406572026158","authorIdStr":"3576406572026158"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"At least got something haha ","listText":"At least got something haha ","text":"At least got something haha","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8a9597acddc4a77316ad4e4cc6765ba7","width":"750","height":"1238"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/158106644","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":604,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
