For context, Uber (UBER) had a market cap of $60-$100 billion at the time based on its ridesharing network. Even combining rental cars and the $200 billion heavy truck market, the combined total addressable market, or TAM, is dwarfed by Tesla&#39;s peak $1 trillion valuation.</p><p>This helps explain Tesla&#39;s 50%+ pullback from over $1 trillion to around $400 billion, as the upside from autonomous driving, rental cars, trucks, etc. could not sustain such an elevated valuation. The upper limit of Tesla&#39;s immediately addressable markets remains well below its recent valuation highs.</p><h2 id=\"id_907007327\">Energy Business Potential</h2><p>In our previous article, we discussed how Tesla&#39;s energy business, specifically its Megapack product, could be the primary driver of future valuation growth.</p><blockquote><p>According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) 2019 World Energy Balances, the global primary energy supply is 165 PWh/ year, and total fossil fuel supply is 134PWh/year. 37% (61PWh) is consumed before making it to the end consumer. This includes the fossil fuel industries&#39; self-consumption during extraction/refining, and transformation losses during electricity generation. Another 27% (44PWh) is lost by inefficient end-uses such as internal combustion engine vehicles and natural gas furnaces. In total, only 36% (59PWh) of the primary energy supply produces useful work or heat for the economy. Analysis from Lawrence Livermore National Lab shows similar levels of inefficiency for the global and US energy supply2,3.</p></blockquote><p>Our $4.2 trillion total addressable market estimate for Tesla Energy is based on simple assumptions around global energy storage needs. According to Tesla, the global energy market is 165,000 terawatt-hours (TWh) per year. If we assume only 5% of this capacity will need storage long-term, that equates to 8,250 TWh of storage required.</p><p>Tesla&#39;s Megapacks have a capacity of 3.9 megawatt-hours (MWh). So to store 8,250 TWh would require around 2.1 million Megapacks at $2 million each - resulting in a $4.2 trillion market opportunity. With the massive $42 trillion addressable market for energy storage, this segment offers far more upside potential than Tesla&#39;s car business or even full self-driving capabilities.</p><h2 id=\"id_2444217762\">Huawei&#39;s Insight: The projected energy storage needs for data centers</h2><p>While the 5% energy storage assumption is subjective, the math illustrates the sheer magnitude of storage investments needed to support grid reliability and renewables growth. Energy storage may potentially be in higher demand, for example, in data centers as AI develops.</p><p>According to Huawei&#39;s report, energy storage is becoming essential for data centers to reduce costs through peak shaving and valley filling. Electricity is 60-70% of data center operating costs, so facilities utilize storage to arbitrage cheaper off-peak power.</p><p>Operators are also connecting edge data centers to provide low latency, localized computing at the network edge. Per Huawei, over 10,000 mobile edge computing nodes will be deployed by 2030. This brings content closer to users, reduces latency, and enables localized data processing.</p><p>Additionally, clean energy usage will rise as data centers target 100% green power by 2030. Wind, solar and other renewables will displace fossil fuels.</p><h2 id=\"id_2618813558\">Megapack&#39;s Recent Progress</h2><p>As the Megapack is key to realizing the energy storage opportunity, we wanted to check in on recent progress as a potential indicator ahead of Tesla&#39;s Q3 earnings. We uncovered data points around Megapack pricing and delivery timelines that are worth monitoring as possible signs of slowing demand, though they could alternatively reflect supply ramping up.</p><p>On August 18, 2023, Electrek reported the earliest Megapack delivery date available on Tesla&#39;s website was Q2 2025, with pricing set at $12 million for a 5-megapack system. When we checked the website on October 2, 2023, the earliest delivery date had moved up to Q3 2024, while pricing had dropped to $10 million.</p><p></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0f52f39be203dea525528762bda2146d\" alt=\"Tesla, Electrek\" title=\"Tesla, Electrek\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"653\"/><span>Tesla, Electrek</span></p><p>Lower pricing and faster delivery could point to weaker demand. However, Tesla has a history of cutting prices as production scales, so this could also stem from the manufacturing ramp allowing cost reductions and shorter lead times.</p><p>In Tesla&#39;s Q2 shareholder letter, the company noted its dedicated Megapack factory in Lathrop, CA had successfully scaled production, though still with room to reach full capacity. Energy storage deployments grew 222% annually but did see some sequential slowing &#34;due to project timing.&#34;</p><blockquote><p>Energy storage deployments increased by 222% YoY in Q2 to 3.7 GWh, another strong quarter due to the ongoing ramp of our first dedicated Megapack factory (Megafactory) in Lathrop, CA. The ramp of this 40 GWh Megafactory – the first of many - has been successful with still more room to reach full capacity. And in June and July 2023, Tesla continued landing major Megapack orders like a $500 million Belgium project and $413 million deal in Massachusetts.</p><h2 id=\"id_1984286967\">Conclusion</h2><p>As Tesla gets set to report Q3 results, progress on the Megapack rollout remains an important catalyst for investors to watch. Strong continued growth in deployments and orders would reinforce Tesla&#39;s long-term energy storage upside. Even combining rental cars and the $200 billion heavy truck market, the combined total addressable market, or TAM, is dwarfed by Tesla's peak $1 trillion valuation.This helps explain Tesla's 50%+ pullback from over $1 trillion to around $400 billion, as the upside from autonomous driving, rental cars, trucks, etc. could not sustain such an elevated valuation. The upper limit of Tesla's immediately addressable markets remains well below its recent valuation highs.Energy Business PotentialIn our previous article, we discussed how Tesla's energy business, specifically its Megapack product, could be the primary driver of future valuation growth.According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) 2019 World Energy Balances, the global primary energy supply is 165 PWh/ year, and total fossil fuel supply is 134PWh/year. 37% (61PWh) is consumed before making it to the end consumer. This includes the fossil fuel industries' self-consumption during extraction/refining, and transformation losses during electricity generation. Another 27% (44PWh) is lost by inefficient end-uses such as internal combustion engine vehicles and natural gas furnaces. In total, only 36% (59PWh) of the primary energy supply produces useful work or heat for the economy. Analysis from Lawrence Livermore National Lab shows similar levels of inefficiency for the global and US energy supply2,3.Our $4.2 trillion total addressable market estimate for Tesla Energy is based on simple assumptions around global energy storage needs. According to Tesla, the global energy market is 165,000 terawatt-hours (TWh) per year. If we assume only 5% of this capacity will need storage long-term, that equates to 8,250 TWh of storage required.Tesla's Megapacks have a capacity of 3.9 megawatt-hours (MWh). So to store 8,250 TWh would require around 2.1 million Megapacks at $2 million each - resulting in a $4.2 trillion market opportunity. With the massive $42 trillion addressable market for energy storage, this segment offers far more upside potential than Tesla's car business or even full self-driving capabilities.Huawei's Insight: The projected energy storage needs for data centersWhile the 5% energy storage assumption is subjective, the math illustrates the sheer magnitude of storage investments needed to support grid reliability and renewables growth. Energy storage may potentially be in higher demand, for example, in data centers as AI develops.According to Huawei's report, energy storage is becoming essential for data centers to reduce costs through peak shaving and valley filling. Electricity is 60-70% of data center operating costs, so facilities utilize storage to arbitrage cheaper off-peak power.Operators are also connecting edge data centers to provide low latency, localized computing at the network edge. Per Huawei, over 10,000 mobile edge computing nodes will be deployed by 2030. This brings content closer to users, reduces latency, and enables localized data processing.Additionally, clean energy usage will rise as data centers target 100% green power by 2030. Wind, solar and other renewables will displace fossil fuels.Megapack's Recent ProgressAs the Megapack is key to realizing the energy storage opportunity, we wanted to check in on recent progress as a potential indicator ahead of Tesla's Q3 earnings. We uncovered data points around Megapack pricing and delivery timelines that are worth monitoring as possible signs of slowing demand, though they could alternatively reflect supply ramping up.On August 18, 2023, Electrek reported the earliest Megapack delivery date available on Tesla's website was Q2 2025, with pricing set at $12 million for a 5-megapack system. When we checked the website on October 2, 2023, the earliest delivery date had moved up to Q3 2024, while pricing had dropped to $10 million.Tesla, ElectrekLower pricing and faster delivery could point to weaker demand. However, Tesla has a history of cutting prices as production scales, so this could also stem from the manufacturing ramp allowing cost reductions and shorter lead times.In Tesla's Q2 shareholder letter, the company noted its dedicated Megapack factory in Lathrop, CA had successfully scaled production, though still with room to reach full capacity. Energy storage deployments grew 222% annually but did see some sequential slowing \"due to project timing.\"Energy storage deployments increased by 222% YoY in Q2 to 3.7 GWh, another strong quarter due to the ongoing ramp of our first dedicated Megapack factory (Megafactory) in Lathrop, CA. The ramp of this 40 GWh Megafactory – the first of many - has been successful with still more room to reach full capacity. While the energy storage deployment rate can be volatile due to project timing, the production rate improved further sequentially in Q2.TSLAThis ramp-up seemed to support the case that accelerated delivery timelines and lower costs reflect expanding supply rather than weakening demand. And in June and July 2023, Tesla continued landing major Megapack orders like a $500 million Belgium project and $413 million deal in Massachusetts.ConclusionAs Tesla gets set to report Q3 results, progress on the Megapack rollout remains an important catalyst for investors to watch. Strong continued growth in deployments and orders would reinforce Tesla's long-term energy storage upside. But any signs of slowing traction could raise concerns about realizing its immense potential in this critical market. We will be closely monitoring energy segment metrics this earnings season for the latest Megapack demand signals. Let’s take a closer look at what experts are saying and assess what investors should be watching for.</p><h2 id=\"id_1407124494\" style=\"text-align: start;\">What’s Happening With TSLA Stock</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Despite some progress last week, TSLA stock slid 2.02% on Tuesday, likely due to the Q3 deliveries report, and trading has been volatile. This suggests that shares will continue to fall even further even when markets closed. As the recent deliveries suggest that the earnings report won’t be positive, this is not surprising.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">TSLA stock is declining, but Wall Street sentiment toward it may be falling even faster. Before that, two analysts issued bearish takes on it. Ryan Brickman of JPMorgan reiterated a “sell” rating and a price target of $135. While that’s an improvement over his recent per-share forecast of $120, it still represents a downside potential of more than 45%. Goldman Sachs’ Mark Delaney lowered his price target to $252 and rated the stock as a “hold.”</p><p>William Stein of Truist Financial, who lowered his own TSLA stock price target to $243, also maintains a “hold” rating. An even harsher take came from Toni Sacconaghi of Bernstein two days ago, who maintained a “sell” rating and a price target of $150. Four analysts maintain sell ratings.</p><h2 id=\"id_4198744867\" style=\"text-align: start;\">Tesla’s Next Earnings Report</h2><p style=\"text-align: start;\">As <em>TipRanks</em> notes, Sacconaghi believes that Tesla will need to demonstrate a strong Q4 and may require further price cuts to achieve its FY 23 delivery forecast. Meeting that goal would set the company up nicely to enter 2024, though the forecast has been adjusted. However, the recent deliveries miss doesn’t suggest that Tesla is making the type of progress that Wall Street wants to see. Price targets are being lowered ahead of earnings for a reason.</p><p>Deutsche Bank even predicted that Tesla would miss on Q3 deliveries. Now that this forecast has proven correct, analysts have even less reason to be optimistic about TSLA stock. Likewise, meme stock drama continues as moviemakers dilute shares and Trump-driven SPACs announce new deal developments.</p><p>Controversial stocks always make the news, and for good reason. When investors and analysts feel strongly (one way or the other) about a company, it’s bound to generate controversy.</p><p>But not all controversial stocks are worth investing in and, even if you’re bullish, they’re usually worth a closer look. Knee-jerk investing doesn’t usually pan out. These are seven of the most controversial stocks in September, alongside my perspective – <em>buy or bail?</em></p><h2 id=\"id_4166157287\">Nintendo (NTDOY, NTDOF)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ebe6f1dfafa6efc2dbf6ceef3475544\" title=\"Source: ESOlex / Shutterstock.com\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: ESOlex / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p><strong>Nintendo </strong>(OTCMKTYS:<strong>NTDOY</strong>, OTCMKTS:<strong>NTDOF</strong>) is having a wild month, but the broader market hasn’t yet caught up with the news.</p><p>First, a leaked rumor alleged that Nintendo and <strong>Google</strong> (NASDAQ:<strong>GOOG</strong>, NASDAQ:<strong>GOOGL</strong>) are working together to develop a virtual reality (<strong>VR</strong>) gaming headset. While nothing is confirmed, a prospective Nintendo/Google collaboration would be massive. </p><p>More news dropped this week as leaked <strong>Microsoft</strong> (NASDAQ:<strong>MSFT</strong>) revealed that the tech giant <em>also</em> considered a Nintendo partnership. In the note, Microsoft Gaming exec Phil Spencer wrote of a potential partnership, “if any US company would have a chance with Nintendo we are probably in the best position.” In the same email, he alluded to activist shareholders building larger positions to “[push] for more from Nintendo stock which could create opportunities for us.” The email is from 2020 but still points to a high-level, ongoing commercial interest in Nintendo.</p><p>Even if neither partnership nor collaboration pans out, Nintendo is a stock to watch. If you want to build a position, note that you can trade two tickers on US exchanges: NTDOY and NTDOF. The differences are minor, but ensure your pick best aligns with your investment strategy and goals.  </p><h2 id=\"id_1668929744\">AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b17708a404e58e40c1283fafe8db8263\" title=\"Source: rblfmr / Shutterstock.com\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: rblfmr / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p>Somehow, <strong>AMC Entertainment Holdings </strong>(NYSE:<strong>AMC</strong>) bulls (or apes, or whatever) are still hanging their hat on this controversial stock.</p><p>For now, the ailing movie theater firm narrowly avoided bankruptcy at the cost of massively diluting shareholders. Last week, a Delaware judge approved AMC’s reverse-split scheme, which will drop one billion preferred shares onto the market.</p><p>That move will dilute the stock by over 90%, punishing the retail traders who kept the stock limping along thus far even further. </p><p>AMC fell sharply on the news, declining nearly 80% since August 10th. While those hoping for a short squeeze rely on the stock’s high failure-to-deliver rate to reinforce their anti-short thesis, it likely won’t be the stock’s saving grace.</p><p>While shorts closing positions might provide a temporary boost, it’ll likely be another dead cat bounce. If you haven’t yet bailed on this controversial stock, the time is rapidly approaching. </p><h2 id=\"id_2973256787\"><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/DWAC\">Digital World Acquisition Corp</a> (DWAC)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2ec3dba16f5b1c6547c557c52f0157c3\" title=\"Source: rafapress / Shutterstock\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: rafapress / Shutterstock</span></p><p>Embattled SPAC <strong>Digital World Acquisition Corp </strong>(NASDAQ:<strong>DWAC</strong>) remains a controversial stock, but its future isn’t reassuring.</p><p>The holding company has been engaged in a two-year legal battle to merge with Donald Trump’s <strong>Truth Social</strong> platform. Since then, Trump’s return to <strong>X</strong> further dropped Truth Social’s leverage and made the deal even less attractive.</p><p>As of 2022, Truth Social saw just 500,000 daily active users. That’s a paltry customer base on its own but pales compared to X’s whopping 540 million users post-conversion from Twitter. </p><p>Even if, for whatever reason, the deal closes soon, advertiser interest likely won’t be enough to keep the social media platform afloat.</p><p>SPAC-mania is long over, and conditions are far different today than when the merger began two years ago. This controversial stock is dead, but still overvalued, so jump ship while you can. </p><h2 id=\"id_2753707244\">General Motors (GM)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/19937bc1c40e26bd4e22314bd657f3be\" title=\"Source: Katherine Welles / Shutterstock.com\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: Katherine Welles / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p><strong>General Motors </strong>(NYSE:<strong>GM</strong>) is struggling in the face of ongoing United Auto Worker strikes, but the company’s long-term position hasn’t changed.</p><p>That makes this controversial stock a definite <em>buy</em> at today’s prices. While the strikes could slow GM’s ambitious electric vehicle delivery goals, it’s a blessing in disguise. GM, after announcing a plan to produce Silverado, Blazer, Equinox, and more EVs en-masse by year’s end, supply chain struggles slowed down their plans.</p><p>The ongoing strikes could be just what GM needs to tighten up its back-end operations and streamline supply chains before beginning production in earnest once the strike ends. </p><p>Alongside GM’s EV endeavors, its continued foray into in-vehicle software sales promises to juice revenue down the road.</p><p>By 2030, GM expects an additional $25 billion from software sales annually, improving its profitability even if workers get a (well-deserved) raise. With Morningstar calling GM 56% undervalued even amid worker strikes, this controversial stock is an easy call – <em>buy.</em> </p><h2 id=\"id_2375524656\">Nikola (NKLA)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f868f85351f4ffcce21a43c39c3ea1b2\" title=\"Source: Stephanie L Sanchez / Shutterstock.com\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: Stephanie L Sanchez / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p><strong>Nikola </strong>(NASDAQ:<strong>NKLA</strong>) announced a new chief operating officer this week, sending shares of the controversial stock soaring. But new blood in the c-suite won’t be enough to save this EV company, even if new hire Mary Chan has experience working in the car industry. </p><p>Overcoming the founder’s fraud conviction was never an appealing prospect, and the Nikola name is forever (deservedly) tainted, but recent moves point to a dire financial position at Nikola.</p><p>The company is burning cash far faster than it brings in sales (which aren’t great either). Last quarter, Nikola posted just $15.36 million in revenue against massive costs, putting profitability at a resounding $845 million loss over the preceding 12 months. </p><p>In a last-ditch effort, Nikola issued convertible notes paying 5% annually. That’s a high cost of debt for a cash-hungry company and represents a genuinely desperate play to stay afloat.</p><p>Investors should also note that debt holders are usually paid first in bankruptcy liquidation, and there may not be enough assets to reimburse shareholders. If you haven’t yet bailed on this controversial stock, do it before it’s too late. </p><h2 id=\"id_61763156\">Instacart (CART)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c67f85ed6189611a24cf2d54cf3333d0\" title=\"Source: T. Schneider / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p><strong>Instacart </strong>(NASDAQ:<strong>CART</strong>) hit the markets hard this week, IPO pricing peaking at $42 per share before settling to around $33.</p><p>That makes Instacart worth about $11 billion, a tough pill for late-stage private investors who bought in at a $39 billion valuation. Still, for the retail set, this controversial stock is one to buy even if its post-IPO slump temporarily puts your portfolio in the red. </p><p>The company holds 70% of the home grocery delivery market in the United States. That market was weak pre-pandemic but exploded as more Americans stayed home. Today, the trend remains and is accelerating.</p><p>Half the country already uses at-home grocery delivery services, with further growth forecast. That’s reflected in Instacart’s initial filing, as transaction volume grew by $4 billion between 2021 and 2022.</p><p>Ultimately, Instacart has legs and room to grow – even at a reduced valuation.</p><h2 id=\"id_1497507758\">Arm Holdings (ARM)</h2><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f6906fdc659cad9fb16e9246389115ae\" title=\"Source: Tada Images / Shutterstock.com\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\"/><span>Source: Tada Images / Shutterstock.com</span></p><p><strong>Arm Holdings </strong>(NASDAQ:<strong>ARM</strong>), like Instacart, debuted on the market this month. Unlike Instacart, Arm’s revenue is shrinking. Over the past year, the chip maker’s annual revenue fell 1%.</p><p>That may not seem bad in light of a tight economy but don’t overlook the fact that this controversial tech stock is riding the same wave that made <strong>Nvidia’s</strong> (NASDAQ:<strong>NVDA</strong>) sales explode. Falling revenue in light of artificial intelligence and semiconductor exuberance doesn’t bode well for this stock.</p><p>Even if Arm has viable long-term prospects, which it arguably does, it isn’t priced to buy at these levels. The stock trades at 153x earnings. That makes Nvidia, which is also overpriced, a value play by comparison as it trades at “only” 106x earnings.</p><p>This controversial stock might have room in your portfolio to diversify your semiconductor stocks. While nothing is confirmed, a prospective Nintendo/Google collaboration would be massive. More news dropped this week as leaked Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) revealed that the tech giant also considered a Nintendo partnership. In the note, Microsoft Gaming exec Phil Spencer wrote of a potential partnership, “if any US company would have a chance with Nintendo we are probably in the best position.” In the same email, he alluded to activist shareholders building larger positions to “[push] for more from Nintendo stock which could create opportunities for us.” The email is from 2020 but still points to a high-level, ongoing commercial interest in Nintendo.Even if neither partnership nor collaboration pans out, Nintendo is a stock to watch. Last week, a Delaware judge approved AMC’s reverse-split scheme, which will drop one billion preferred shares onto the market.That move will dilute the stock by over 90%, punishing the retail traders who kept the stock limping along thus far even further. AMC fell sharply on the news, declining nearly 80% since August 10th. While those hoping for a short squeeze rely on the stock’s high failure-to-deliver rate to reinforce their anti-short thesis, it likely won’t be the stock’s saving grace.While shorts closing positions might provide a temporary boost, it’ll likely be another dead cat bounce. Since then, Trump’s return to X further dropped Truth Social’s leverage and made the deal even less attractive.As of 2022, Truth Social saw just 500,000 daily active users. That’s a paltry customer base on its own but pales compared to X’s whopping 540 million users post-conversion from Twitter. Even if, for whatever reason, the deal closes soon, advertiser interest likely won’t be enough to keep the social media platform afloat.SPAC-mania is long over, and conditions are far different today than when the merger began two years ago. While the strikes could slow GM’s ambitious electric vehicle delivery goals, it’s a blessing in disguise. GM, after announcing a plan to produce Silverado, Blazer, Equinox, and more EVs en-masse by year’s end, supply chain struggles slowed down their plans.The ongoing strikes could be just what GM needs to tighten up its back-end operations and streamline supply chains before beginning production in earnest once the strike ends. Alongside GM’s EV endeavors, its continued foray into in-vehicle software sales promises to juice revenue down the road.By 2030, GM expects an additional $25 billion from software sales annually, improving its profitability even if workers get a (well-deserved) raise. With Morningstar calling GM 56% undervalued even amid worker strikes, this controversial stock is an easy call – buy. Nikola (NKLA)Source: Stephanie L Sanchez / Shutterstock.comNikola (NASDAQ:NKLA) announced a new chief operating officer this week, sending shares of the controversial stock soaring. But new blood in the c-suite won’t be enough to save this EV company, even if new hire Mary Chan has experience working in the car industry. Overcoming the founder’s fraud conviction was never an appealing prospect, and the Nikola name is forever (deservedly) tainted, but recent moves point to a dire financial position at Nikola.The company is burning cash far faster than it brings in sales (which aren’t great either). Last quarter, Nikola posted just $15.36 million in revenue against massive costs, putting profitability at a resounding $845 million loss over the preceding 12 months. In a last-ditch effort, Nikola issued convertible notes paying 5% annually. That’s a high cost of debt for a cash-hungry company and represents a genuinely desperate play to stay afloat.Investors should also note that debt holders are usually paid first in bankruptcy liquidation, and there may not be enough assets to reimburse shareholders. If you haven’t yet bailed on this controversial stock, do it before it’s too late. Instacart (CART)Source: T. Schneider / Shutterstock.comInstacart (NASDAQ:CART) hit the markets hard this week, IPO pricing peaking at $42 per share before settling to around $33.That makes Instacart worth about $11 billion, a tough pill for late-stage private investors who bought in at a $39 billion valuation. Still, for the retail set, this controversial stock is one to buy even if its post-IPO slump temporarily puts your portfolio in the red. The company holds 70% of the home grocery delivery market in the United States. That market was weak pre-pandemic but exploded as more Americans stayed home. Today, the trend remains and is accelerating.Half the country already uses at-home grocery delivery services, with further growth forecast. That’s reflected in Instacart’s initial filing, as transaction volume grew by $4 billion between 2021 and 2022.Ultimately, Instacart has legs and room to grow – even at a reduced valuation.Arm Holdings (ARM)Source: Tada Images / Shutterstock.comArm Holdings (NASDAQ:ARM), like Instacart, debuted on the market this month. Unlike Instacart, Arm’s revenue is shrinking. Over the past year, the chip maker’s annual revenue fell 1%.That may not seem bad in light of a tight economy but don’t overlook the fact that this controversial tech stock is riding the same wave that made Nvidia’s (NASDAQ:NVDA) sales explode. Falling revenue in light of artificial intelligence and semiconductor exuberance doesn’t bode well for this stock.Even if Arm has viable long-term prospects, which it arguably does, it isn’t priced to buy at these levels. The stock trades at 153x earnings. That makes Nvidia, which is also overpriced, a value play by comparison as it trades at “only” 106x earnings.This controversial stock might have room in your portfolio to diversify your semiconductor stocks. Tesla has been repeatedly cutting the prices of its vehicles to boost sales demand in the face of growing electric vehicle competition from established automakers.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">The company once again reported thinner profit margins, even if it is still more profitable than traditional automakers. Its gross margin fell to 17.9%, down 7 percentage points from a year earlier. He said the rise in rates is part of the reason for the price cuts by Tesla this year.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“I am worried about the high interest rate environment that we’re in,’ he said. “I just can’t emphasize this enough that for the vast majority of people, buying a car is about the monthly payment.”</p><p>He said high interest rates are causing a delay with Tesla’s next factory, planned for Mexico.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“We want to just get a sense for [what]<strong><em> </em></strong>the global economy is like before we go full tilt on the Mexico factory,” he said. “If interest rates start coming down, we will accelerate.”</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">He said unspecified wars are also a headwind for car sales.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">“If people are reading about wars all over the world, buying a car isn’t front of mind,” he said.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">But it said it is still on track to deliver 1.8 million vehicles for the year. That target would require its fourth quarter sales to be up 17% from what it achieved in the last three months of 2022.</p><p style=\"text-align: start;\">Tesla also said it still expects to begin delivery of the long-delayed Cybertruck pickup by the end of this year. Tesla (ticker: TSLA) reported earnings per share of 91 cents on sales of $24.9 billion in the second quarter. Tesla reported earnings per share of $1.05 on sales of $21.5 billion in the third quarter of 2022.One reason for the falling sales between the second and third quarters is lower car sales. Tesla delivered some 435,000 units in the third quarter, compared with Wall Street projections for about 455,000, and down from about 466,000 in the second quarter of 2023. Investors had known a weaker number was coming because of planned factory downtime to upgrade equipment and launch refreshed versions of the Model 3 sedan. Tesla delivered 343,830 units in the third quarter of 2022.The delivery number hasn't hurt the stock much. Coming into Tuesday trading, since Tesla reported third-quarter deliveries, shares are up 1.5%, while the Nasdaq Composite had gained 2.6%.Guidance should be a focus point. Tesla expects to deliver about 1.8 million units in 2023, leaving roughly 475,000 to deliver in the fourth quarter.
