Get ready for a very complicated report.
\n
The EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday, July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla (ticker: TSLA) to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. Thatâs true for Tesla as well.
\n
There will be a lot of moving parts, however, even more than usual for the worldâs most valuable car company and its iconoclast CEO Elon Musk.
\n
Factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings include the global semiconductor shortage, vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Teslaâs battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profitsâno matter how it happens. Thatâs what could break shares out of their recent range.
\n

\n
Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.
\n
The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.
\n
After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory creditsâwhich it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the ânormalâ amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.
\n
There is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrencyâs prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyoneâs guess, but donât expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.
\n
Investors will also want to know when Teslaâs new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Teslaâs Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Teslaâs driver-assistance functionsâthe company recently started selling its driver-assistance software as a subscriptionâand how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its charging network to other EVs down the road.
\n
Those topics and more should be discussed on the earnings conference call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday. Year to date, Tesla stock is down roughly 9%, trailing behind comparable 17% and 15% respective gains of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average.Still, Tesla shares have had a strong run, up about 112% over the past 12 months.
\n

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Reports Earnings Today. Year to date, Tesla stock is down roughly 9%, trailing behind comparable 17% and 15% respective gains of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average.Still, Tesla shares have had a strong run, up about 112% over the past 12 months.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1688,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":171758415,"gmtCreate":1626767755937,"gmtModify":1703764803949,"author":{"id":"3576662504844996","authorId":"3576662504844996","name":"Ice1234","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576662504844996","authorIdStr":"3576662504844996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/171758415","repostId":"1186538600","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1014,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173580551,"gmtCreate":1626669879273,"gmtModify":1703763059631,"author":{"id":"3576662504844996","authorId":"3576662504844996","name":"Ice1234","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576662504844996","authorIdStr":"3576662504844996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please ","listText":"Like please ","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/173580551","repostId":"1111084715","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1259,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":179880920,"gmtCreate":1626502405560,"gmtModify":1703761240275,"author":{"id":"3576662504844996","authorId":"3576662504844996","name":"Ice1234","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576662504844996","authorIdStr":"3576662504844996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like and comments. That compares to shockingly large estimated increases in industrial sector profits of more than 570%, and energy industry profits, up 220%. Earnings for the financial and materials sectors are expected to be up more than 100% each.\nThose huge gains and expected earnings beats should be a positive for some cyclical stocks this quarter. Earnings season kicks off Tuesday with reports fromJPMorgan Chase,Goldman Sachs,andPepsiCo.\nThis earnings season will be the period where the tug of war thatâs been a factor in the stock market, between cyclical and growth trades, is due to play out very clearly in the earnings numbers. Inflationary pressures, negative for tech stock performance, are expected to help boost cyclical earnings growth in the rebound, as companies face rising input costs but also up their prices.\nâI think what youâre going to see is a very unusual kind of contradiction between the data and the narrative,â said Jonathan Golub, chief U.S. equity strategist at Credit Suisse. âWhat companies are going to say is they are facing shortages and rising input costs and other things which are constraints to their success. And then what youâre going to see is massive beats and the biggest portions coming from higher margins. Theyâre not going to try to reconcile it.â\nGolub expects companies to provide detail on rising costs and supply shortages but not as much information on how much they are raising prices or how broadly.\nâIf you listen to what the CFOs are going to say, youâre going to think the earnings are terrible, but if you look at the results, theyâre going to be magnificent,â he said.\nBut ultimately, itâs tech and growth that will prove to be the best performers profit-wise over the long haul. âTheir own earnings revisions for themselves are still good. Theyâre not deteriorating. Theyâre solid. Theyâre not getting worse. Theyâre not accelerating in this ridiculous way. Theyâre on the same solid trajectory theyâve been on,â said Brian Rauscher, Fundstrat head of global portfolio strategy.\nRauscher expects the trend to revert back to tech as the better earnings performer in two quarters from now, when cyclical airline stocks or industrial stocks like Caterpillar will see earnings growth back in the single digits. âTech will keep growing at 25%,â he said.\nHe says economic growth will have slowed to a more normalized and sustained pace. By then it will be more apparent whether inflation is temporary or not.\nâIf they are unable to pass along price increases, it will hit the earnings,â he said.\nGolub points out that tech profits in last yearâs second quarter actually increased by 3.3% from 2019, as cyclical earnings plunged 85% in the same period. The 2021 second quarter earnings growth estimate for tech is 34.2%, while some cyclical earnings will rebound by more than 570% just to get back to even with 2019.\nâIt says one of these is a near term trade, and one of them is a long term trade,â said Golub. âOnce the supply chain issues are gone, [cyclicals] are going to be unimpressive.â\nEven with the push pull of tech and growth versus cyclical trades, strategists say the earning season should be good for the stock market.\nâI think the numbers will be very good, and itâll be supportive for markets,â said Rauscher. He said some investors may be concerned that a peak period of earnings this quarter will lead to a market decline but he doesnât expect that to be the case.\nâObviously, the numbers are going to be outsized because we have that weird comparison from last year. I think the important thing is going to be the return of guidance,â Rauscher said. Both he and Golub say they expect earnings to beat to the upside.\nâI think the analysts have underestimated the improvement in operating leverage,â Rauscher said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":573,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":800652563,"gmtCreate":1627300658252,"gmtModify":1703487082972,"author":{"id":"3576662504844996","authorId":"3576662504844996","name":"Ice1234","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576662504844996","authorIdStr":"3576662504844996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please ","listText":"Like please ","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/800652563","repostId":"1151724613","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151724613","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627292512,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1151724613?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-26 17:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Reports Earnings Today.

Both he and Golub say they expect earnings to beat to the upside.\nâI think the analysts have underestimated the improvement in operating leverage,â Rauscher said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":573,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":899162901,"gmtCreate":1628169949703,"gmtModify":1703502465286,"author":{"id":"3576662504844996","authorId":"3576662504844996","name":"Ice1234","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576662504844996","authorIdStr":"3576662504844996"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/899162901","repostId":"1174241374","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1174241374","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1628168340,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1174241374?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-05 20:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Blackstone, Other Private-Equity Stocks Catch Fire","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1174241374","media":"The Wall Street Journal","summary":"The firms and their long-languishing shares are benefiting from current market dynamics such as low ","content":"

\n The firms and their long-languishing shares are benefiting from current market dynamics such as low interest rates.\n
\n
After years of lackluster performance, shares of private-equity firms have hit their stride.
\n
In the decade or more sinceBlackstone GroupInc.,BX1.38%KKRKKR1.90%& Co.,Apollo Global ManagementInc.APO0.38%andCarlyle GroupInc.CG1.00%went public, their assets under management have exploded as they branched out beyond leveraged buyouts into areas such as real estate, lending and insurance.
\n
But their stocks languished, leading executives such asBlackstoneBX1.38%chief Stephen Schwarzman to publicly gripe that the market was undervaluing them.
\n
That has changed in a big way since the U.S. economy began to emerge from the coronavirus-driven downturn.
\n
Including dividends, shares of Blackstone have tripled since April 1, 2020, roughly when the recovery began, pushing its market capitalization to around $140 billion. some positive commentary from Wall Street as Citigroup reiterated its buy rating on the semiconductor company, noting that dynamic random access memory pricing could be higher in the second half of the year.In a note to clients, analyst Christopher Danely reiterated the firm's buy rating and $120 price target on Micron, noting that DRAM pricing is likely to decline \"in the mid-single digits\" quarter-over-quarter in the first-quarter, but with the spot price 16% above the contract price, this bodes well for second-quarter pricing and beyond. Our channel checks indicate continued pricing improvements in DRAM and we expect DRAM ASP to be down low-to-mid single digit QoQ in 1Q22 and flat to up QoQ in 2Q22,\" Danely wrote in the note. \"Also, we expect DRAM shortages in 2H22 given DRAM makers are constricting supply growth.\"Micron shares were down nearly 4% to $84.10in premarket trading as stocks tumbled on Russia's attack on Ukraine.Danely added that PC demand remains \"solid,\" though some data center customers have held off on ordering DRAM due to \"healthy levels\" of inventory. On Wednesday, Micron entered into a multi-year deal with Xperi(NASDAQ:XPER)to give Micronaccess to XPER's IP licensing business Adeiaâs hybrid bonding IP to enhance next generation memory expect.\n
\n
While Tesla stock has continued to sell-off, the stock has averaged positive returns the week before the earnings call. Letâs take a look at what we can expect this week in the Macro, Tesla, and Technical world.
\n
Macro Outlook:
\n
The Nasdaq 100 ($NDX) underperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index ($DJI) last week. This movement coincided with an increase in the 10-year bond yield indicating inflation fears for investors. Supporting fears for inflation, the Consumer Price Indexdataannounced on Tuesday, July 13thwas thelargestyear-over-year jump since August 2008. Chinaâs COVID-19 Delta variant outbreak is also a concern. The strain appeared to be isolated to the Guangdong Province which resulted inlockdowns but, has since spread. Expansion of lockdowns into Shanghai may result in the closure of factories.
\n
Tesla Catalysts:
\n
Teslaâs Q2 earnings call is exactly one week away. Historically, Tesla stock has traded positively the week before the earnings call. However, the same cannot be said about the week following despite beating analysts' expectations in six of the last 8 quarters.
\n
Note: The day before/after reporting data only included intraday price action. The week before/after reporting only included intra-week price action.
\n
The current Wall St.estimate for Tesla's second-quarter is $0.93 EPS and has been revised downward from Aprilâs estimate of $0.97.
\n
Tesla has also released a subscription service for their Full Self-Driving software. The feature starts at $199 per month compared to the up-front purchase of $10,000.
\n
For More information on the FSD SubscriptionCLICK HERE
\n
Technical Outlook:
\n
Fridayâs price action resulted in Teslaâs stock price closing at $644.22. Tesla stock remains ~$12 above the 200-day moving. Despite two weeks of downward price action, a reversal toward the upside before earnings would not be a surprise. One would expect upward resistance at last weekâs high of $693 and support at the 200-day moving average.
\n
Monday Pre-Market
\n
Tesla stock, along with the majorindicesand bond yields are negative before Monday's open. This lower start appears to be driven by the COVID-19 Delta variant news. Overall, COVID-19 cases haverisen70% week-over-week to 26,000 cases in the United States.
\n
Currently, Tesla stock is trading below the 200-day moving average near $629.
