They can squirrel away money in their savings account, buy real estate, or purchase physical gold. But the method proven to deliver the highest average annual returns over the long run is putting your capital to work in the stock market.
\n
For example, despite navigating its way through the Black Monday crash in 1987, the dot-com bubble, the Great Recession, and the coronavirus crash, the benchmark S&P 500 has averaged an annual total return, including dividends paid, of 11% since the beginning of 1980. At this return rate, folks reinvesting their dividends are doubling their money about every 6.5 years.
\n
But you don't have to settle for simply matching the performance of the market. If you buy stakes in game-changing businesses, you have the opportunity to take a large sum of money and turn it into a life-altering amount of cash. The following four game-changing stocks all have the tools necessary to turn a $200,000 investment into $1 million (or more) over the next decade.
\n
\n
Redfin
\n
Whereas real estate is traditionally a slow-growing, if not boring, sector, technology-driven real estate company Redfin (NASDAQ:RDFN) is showing Wall Street that it has the ability to completely change how properties are purchased, sold, and viewed.
\n
One of the core attributes of the Redfin operating model is saving its users money. Traditional real estate companies charge up to a 3% commission/listing fee when a home is bought or sold. Depending on how much previous business was completed with the company, Redfin only charges a fee ranging from 1% to 1.5%. A difference of 1.5% to 2% might not sound like much, but it's quite impactful with home prices soaring. According to Realtor.com, the median home price for active listings in June 2021 was $385,000, meaning Redfin could save the median seller up to $7,700 in costs.
\n
But it's not just a more cost-efficient operation that's driving buyers and sellers to Redfin. It's the company's adaptation to a changing real estate landscape and the unparalleled personalization it provides. For instance, RedfinNow is a service that purchases homes for cash, which removes the hassles of putting a home on the market and haggling with prospective buyers over price. There's also Redfin Concierge, which works with homeowners on improvements and staging to maximize the value of their home.
\n
With Redfin's share of existing home sales nearly tripling from 0.44% at the end of 2015 to 1.14% by March 2021, it's pretty evident that Redfin's operating model is resonating with consumers.
\n
\n
Square
\n
Just because a high-growth stock has a market cap in excess of $100 billion doesn't mean it can't quintuple (or more) over the next decade. Between 2012 and 2019, the gross payment volume (GPV) on Square's network surged by an average of 49% annually, with GPV on track to easily top $130 billion in 2021.
\n
As I've previously noted, the seller ecosystem was really designed to be a tool for smaller merchants. Over time, however, the percentage of medium-and-large-sized businesses utilizing the platform has grown. As of the end of March, 61% of GPV came from businesses with $125,000 or more in annualized GPV, up from 52% in Q1 2019. Since this is a fee-driven operating segment, it implies steady profit growth for the seller ecosystem.
\n
However, the real lure here is digital peer-to-peer platform Cash App, which has seen its monthly active user count more than quintuple in three years to 36 million (as of Dec. 31, 2020). The company's dollar-based net expansion rate has tallied 147% (Q3 2020), 143% (Q4 2020), and 139% (Q1 2021) in each of the past three quarters. In simple terms, this means existing clients spent 47%, 43%, and 39% more than they did in each respective year-ago quarter. We've also seen total customer count, enterprise customer count, and average enterprise customer spend, climb on a quarterly basis.
\n
What's perhaps most impressive about Fastly has been the company's ability to overcome ByteDance (the parent of TikTok) pulling traffic from its network in Q3 2020 due to a stateside spat with the Trump administration. ByteDance was Fastly's biggest customer by sales in the first-half of 2020. Despite this loss, Fastly still produced sales growth of better than 40% in the third quarter.
Fintech stock Square (NYSE:SQ) has two operating segments that should allow it to handily outperform the broader market in the coming 10 years.
\n
Square's bread and butter has long been its seller ecosystem, which provides point-of-sale devices, analytics, and other tools that help merchants succeed.
They can squirrel away money in their savings account, buy real estate, or purchase physical gold. But the method proven to deliver the highest average annual returns over the long run is putting your capital to work in the stock market.\nFor example, despite navigating its way through the Black Monday crash in 1987, the dot-com bubble, the Great Recession, and the coronavirus crash, the benchmark S&P 500 has averaged an annual total return, including dividends paid, of 11% since the beginning of 1980. At this return rate, folks reinvesting their dividends are doubling their money about every 6.5 years.\nBut you don't have to settle for simply matching the performance of the market. If you buy stakes in game-changing businesses, you have the opportunity to take a large sum of money and turn it into a life-altering amount of cash. The following four game-changing stocks all have the tools necessary to turn a $200,000 investment into $1 million (or more) over the next decade.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nRedfin\nWhereas real estate is traditionally a slow-growing, if not boring, sector, technology-driven real estate company Redfin (NASDAQ:RDFN) is showing Wall Street that it has the ability to completely change how properties are purchased, sold, and viewed.\nOne of the core attributes of the Redfin operating model is saving its users money. According to Realtor.com, the median home price for active listings in June 2021 was $385,000, meaning Redfin could save the median seller up to $7,700 in costs.\nBut it's not just a more cost-efficient operation that's driving buyers and sellers to Redfin. It's the company's adaptation to a changing real estate landscape and the unparalleled personalization it provides. For instance, RedfinNow is a service that purchases homes for cash, which removes the hassles of putting a home on the market and haggling with prospective buyers over price. There's also Redfin Concierge, which works with homeowners on improvements and staging to maximize the value of their home.\nWith Redfin's share of existing home sales nearly tripling from 0.44% at the end of 2015 to 1.14% by March 2021, it's pretty evident that Redfin's operating model is resonating with consumers.\nImage source: Square.\nSquare\nJust because a high-growth stock has a market cap in excess of $100 billion doesn't mean it can't quintuple (or more) over the next decade. Fintech stock Square (NYSE:SQ) has two operating segments that should allow it to handily outperform the broader market in the coming 10 years.\nSquare's bread and butter has long been its seller ecosystem, which provides point-of-sale devices, analytics, and other tools that help merchants succeed. Between 2012 and 2019, the gross payment volume (GPV) on Square's network surged by an average of 49% annually, with GPV on track to easily top $130 billion in 2021.\nAs I've previously noted, the seller ecosystem was really designed to be a tool for smaller merchants. Over time, however, the percentage of medium-and-large-sized businesses utilizing the platform has grown. As of the end of March, 61% of GPV came from businesses with $125,000 or more in annualized GPV, up from 52% in Q1 2019. Since this is a fee-driven operating segment, it implies steady profit growth for the seller ecosystem.\nHowever, the real lure here is digital peer-to-peer platform Cash App, which has seen its monthly active user count more than quintuple in three years to 36 million (as of Dec. 31, 2020). Cash App allows Square to monetize consumer purchases, bank transfers, investments, and even Bitcoin exchange. With gross profit per user of $41, compared to less than $5 in expenses to bring in each new user, Cash App is a burgeoning cash cow for Square.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nFastly\nYet another high-growth game-changer that could turn a $200,000 investment into $1 million or more over the next decade is edge cloud solutions provider Fastly (NYSE:FSLY).\nFastly's primary task is to expedite the delivery of content to end users as quickly and securely as possible. Fastly is quickly becoming a popular content delivery solution, and the company's rapid sales growth proves it.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nSalesforce\nA final game-changing stock that has the ability to make its shareholder a whole lot richer over the next decade is cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) software provider Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM).\nPut simply, CRM software is what customer-facing businesses use to log and access client information in real-time, handle service and product issues, manage online marketing campaigns, and run predictive analysis with regard to which clients might purchase a new product or service. That's just a small snippet of what CRM can help with. The EV maker plans to host a conference call at 5:30 p.m. Eastern that day to discuss results with investors and others.
\n
Notably absent will be Jerome Guillen, the long-time Tesla executive who left in early June. Guillen, who spent more than a decade at the company, led Tesla's efforts to get the Tesla Semi, the company's commercial electric truck, off the factory floor.
\n
Tesla said in April that sales of the Tesla Semi were on track to begin this year, and investors will want to know if that's still on the table given Guillen's departure, which merited an after-the-fact, two-sentence notice.
\n
The company plans to build the Semi and the Cybertruck pickup at its newest plant being built in the Austin, Texas, area. Investors will wait for updates on these timelines as well as building progress for Texas plant and the one being built in Germany.
\n
\"Tesla shares have significantly underperformed the major OEMs such as (Ford Motor Co. $(F)$) and (General Motors Co. $(GM)$) so far this year, which we think reflects the fact that 2021 has largely been a transition year for the company as investors await the startup of those two new factories, which should drive more material revenue and earnings growth starting next year,\" CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson said.
\n
Gene Munster of Loup Ventures said Wall Street is likely to zero in Tesla's auto gross margins trends and the impact of component shortages.
\n
\"Investors will likely give the company a pass on margins given the component environment is tight,\" he said.
\n
Here's what else to expect:
\n
Earnings: The consensus estimate from 39 analysts polled by FactSet calls for Tesla to report adjusted earnings of 94 cents a share, which would compare with adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share in the year-ago period. GAAP earnings are seen at 55 cents a share.
\n
Estimize, a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts, as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others, is expecting an adjusted profit of $1.02 a share.
\n
Revenue: The analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of $11.53 billion for Tesla, up from $5.18 billion a year ago. Estimize sees revenue of $11.64 billion for the company.
\n
Stock movement: Tesla shares have underperformed the broader market, down around 8% versus gains of more than 14% for the S&P 500 index. In the past 12 months, however, the stock has nearly doubled, compared with an advance of around 33% for the S&P.
\n
Tesla's stock performance this year also compares with gains of 34% and 57% for Ford and GM shares.
\n
What else to expect: Tesla angered some customers recently when it announced a change in the way it goes about some of its autonomous-driving products, calling for subscription plans rather than upfront fees for its Full Self Driving package, which is currently being tested. The subscription prices were higher than expected, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said.
\n
FSD subscription \"will be a focus, and getting a sense on how to think about the uptake. Its an important part of increasing Tesla's margins long term,\" said Munster. The way that Tesla markets FSD \"has come under fire, and will likely be a topic.\"
\n
Tesla has weathered the chips and parts shortages well, getting praise for it has handled the shortages so far.
\n
Tesla earlier this month reported second-quarter sales and production numbers that heartened investors. Tesla has shied away from specific sales and production guidance, but investors will be keen on parsing out any indication that sales remain healthy.
\n
Hand in hand with that is Tesla's business in China, where demand concerns have mounted amid a recent recall, consumer criticism, and a growing number of domestic EVs as competition with Teslas.
\n
Analysts at Goldman Sachs recently zeroed in on downloads of the Tesla app in China as an indicator of demand.
\n
That data suggests \"overall demand remains solid in China and is up meaningfully (year-on-year,)\" the analysts, led by Mark Delaney, said in the recent note.
\n
Tesla has used its Shanghai factory for exports, not just to supply the Chinese domestic market, which could help explain an 11% quarter-on-quarter drop in second-quarter sales in China, the Goldman Sachs analysts said.
\n
\"Tesla sold essentially every car it made in (the first half of 2021) globally ... illustrating in our opinion that the company is supply not demand constrained.\"
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The EV maker plans to host a conference call at 5:30 p.m. Eastern that day to discuss results with investors and others.\nNotably absent will be Jerome Guillen, the long-time Tesla executive who left in early June. Guillen, who spent more than a decade at the company, led Tesla's efforts to get the Tesla Semi, the company's commercial electric truck, off the factory floor.\nTesla said in April that sales of the Tesla Semi were on track to begin this year, and investors will want to know if that's still on the table given Guillen's departure, which merited an after-the-fact, two-sentence notice.\nThe company plans to build the Semi and the Cybertruck pickup at its newest plant being built in the Austin, Texas, area. Investors will wait for updates on these timelines as well as building progress for Texas plant and the one being built in Germany.\n\"Tesla shares have significantly underperformed the major OEMs such as (Ford Motor Co. $(F)$) and (General Motors Co. $(GM)$) so far this year, which we think reflects the fact that 2021 has largely been a transition year for the company as investors await the startup of those two new factories, which should drive more material revenue and earnings growth starting next year,\" CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson said.\nGene Munster of Loup Ventures said Wall Street is likely to zero in Tesla's auto gross margins trends and the impact of component shortages.\n\"Investors will likely give the company a pass on margins given the component environment is tight,\" he said.\nHere's what else to expect:\nEarnings: The consensus estimate from 39 analysts polled by FactSet calls for Tesla to report adjusted earnings of 94 cents a share, which would compare with adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share in the year-ago period. GAAP earnings are seen at 55 cents a share.\nEstimize, a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts, as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others, is expecting an adjusted profit of $1.02 a share.\nRevenue: The analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of $11.53 billion for Tesla, up from $5.18 billion a year ago. Estimize sees revenue of $11.64 billion for the company.\nStock movement: Tesla shares have underperformed the broader market, down around 8% versus gains of more than 14% for the S&P 500 index. In the past 12 months, however, the stock has nearly doubled, compared with an advance of around 33% for the S&P.\nTesla's stock performance this year also compares with gains of 34% and 57% for Ford and GM shares.\nWhat else to expect: Tesla angered some customers recently when it announced a change in the way it goes about some of its autonomous-driving products, calling for subscription plans rather than upfront fees for its Full Self Driving package, which is currently being tested. The subscription prices were higher than expected, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said.\nFSD subscription \"will be a focus, and getting a sense on how to think about the uptake. Its an important part of increasing Tesla's margins long term,\" said Munster. The way that Tesla markets FSD \"has come under fire, and will likely be a topic.\"\nTesla has weathered the chips and parts shortages well, getting praise for it has handled the shortages so far.\nTesla earlier this month reported second-quarter sales and production numbers that heartened investors. Tesla has shied away from specific sales and production guidance, but investors will be keen on parsing out any indication that sales remain healthy.\nHand in hand with that is Tesla's business in China, where demand concerns have mounted amid a recent recall, consumer criticism, and a growing number of domestic EVs as competition with Teslas.\nAnalysts at Goldman Sachs recently zeroed in on downloads of the Tesla app in China as an indicator of demand.\nThat data suggests \"overall demand remains solid in China and is up meaningfully (year-on-year,)\" the analysts, led by Mark Delaney, said in the recent note.\nTesla has used its Shanghai factory for exports, not just to supply the Chinese domestic market, which could help explain an 11% quarter-on-quarter drop in second-quarter sales in China, the Goldman Sachs analysts said.\n\"Tesla sold essentially every car it made in (the first half of 2021) globally ... illustrating in our opinion that the company is supply not demand constrained.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":134,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
