The Fed is going to control the direction of this market over the coming months,\" Ghriskey added.According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 lost 21.73 points, or 0.57%, to end at 3,808.87 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 180.84 points, or 1.65%, to 10,790.16. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 207.61 points, or 0.65%, to 32,046.72.Third-quarter reporting season forges ahead at full speed, with 227 of the companies in the S&P 500 having reported. Of those, 74% have beaten consensus estimates.Analysts now see aggregate S&P earnings growth of 2.5%, down from 4.5% at the beginning of October.\"In general we’ve seen earnings come in at or slightly above expectations,\" Ghriskey said. \"But those expectations have been lowered throughout the quarter.\"McDonalds Corp advanced after the fast food chain beat quarterly same-store sales estimates.Southwest Airlines Co quarterly profit topped consensus estimates, sending the carrier's stock higher.Amazon.com and Apple Inc are due to report shortly.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":850,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9988475526,"gmtCreate":1666828129965,"gmtModify":1676537811547,"author":{"id":"3577612953569737","authorId":"3577612953569737","name":"rhengheng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/58bf6b16a89ff371c6c0942ad99039ea","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577612953569737","authorIdStr":"3577612953569737"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Timing the market is difficult, and short-term price movements can be random, confusing, and grounded in nothing that has to do with the fundamental business.Understanding that the market can do crazy, unpredictable things can help keep emotions in check during a stock market sell-off, as well as quell the urge to go all-in, even when it may be tempting to do so.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":238,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":184419427,"gmtCreate":1623721292869,"gmtModify":1704209517258,"author":{"id":"3577612953569737","authorId":"3577612953569737","name":"rhengheng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/58bf6b16a89ff371c6c0942ad99039ea","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577612953569737","authorIdStr":"3577612953569737"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment please","listText":"Like and comment please","text":"Like and comment please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/184419427","repostId":"1126626020","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":109,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3583410085434046","authorId":"3583410085434046","name":"LiL60","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3583410085434046","authorIdStr":"3583410085434046"},"content":"Done ,Pls reply to comment","text":"Done ,Pls reply to comment","html":"Done ,Pls reply to comment"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":839242728,"gmtCreate":1629163619664,"gmtModify":1676529949842,"author":{"id":"3577612953569737","authorId":"3577612953569737","name":"rhengheng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/58bf6b16a89ff371c6c0942ad99039ea","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3577612953569737","authorIdStr":"3577612953569737"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Really unexpected","listText":"Really unexpected","text":"Really unexpected","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/839242728","repostId":"2160278866","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2160278866","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1629153526,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2160278866?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2021-08-17 06:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500, Dow hit record highs as defensive shares shine","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2160278866","media":"Reuters","summary":"* Healthcare sector rises over 1%, utilities, staples gain\n* Cyclical areas off: Energy, materials, ","content":"
* Healthcare sector rises over 1%, utilities, staples gain
\n
* Cyclical areas off: Energy, materials, financials weak
\n
* China factory output, retail sales growth slow sharply
\n
* Tesla slumps after U.S. opens probe into Autopilot
\n
* Dow up 0.31%, S&P up 0.26%, Nasdaq down 0.2%
\n
Aug 16 (Reuters) - The benchmark S&P 500 and the Dow industrials hit record highs on Monday as investors moved into defensive sectors and stocks recovered from losses earlier in the session, shaking off glum economic data out of China.
\n
Economically sensitive groups such as energy, materials and financials were weaker after China's factory output and retail sales growth slowed sharply and missed expectations in July, as new COVID-19 outbreaks and floods disrupted business operations.
\n
But healthcare gained 1.1%, the best-performing S&P 500 sector. consumer-price index reading. Recent history may offer a clue.

"While median returns for the S&P 500 have been right around the flatline over the last two years on CPI days, more recent returns have been much weaker," wrote analysts at Bespoke Investment Group, in a Thursday note. He said that since Russia/Ukraine talks were continuing, investors were tending toward optimism.\"Regarding Russia, Ukraine, the market has been more positive on news from the diplomatic front than negative on the escalation.\"Hogan also cited calmer oil prices and relief that the highly anticipated Fed news was finally out.\"Instead of having fears and trepidation of what the Fed might do we have clear roadmap for monetary policy,\" he said.In addition to less onerous than expected Fed actions, Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers in Greenwich, Connecticut said investors were reassured that U.S. crude oil prices weren't too far above $100 on Friday after recently surpassing $130.\"At least for this week oil has found a level.
