<strong>Nasdaq-100</strong>. Yet all anyone seems to be able to talk about is how toxic EV stocks are heading into 2024.</p><p>The reason for the negativity involves the slowing demand for EVs.</p><p>“We’re taking immediate steps to enhance the profitability of our EV portfolio and adjust to slowing near-term growth,” Reuters reported GM CEO Mary Barra’s comments to analysts.</p><p>Elon Musk suggested on his company’s conference call that higher interest rates make it harder to find buyers willing to part with their hard-earned capital. All across the industry, car company executives have sounded the alarm bells. </p><p>However, the data suggests things aren’t so bleak. </p><p>“EV sales are growing, however. They topped 300,000 units in the United States for the first time in the third quarter, according to a <strong>Cox Automotive</strong> report. They rose 14.3% in September in the European Union and 22% in China, the world’s largest EV market,” Reuters reported. </p><p>Investors look at significant acquisitions by <strong>Exxon Mobil </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>XOM</u></strong>) and <strong>Chevron </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>CVX</u></strong>) and believe it is a sign that oil executives know what’s reality and what’s not. </p><p>That’s pure poppycock. They just want to be the last ones selling oil through the transition to electric. They know it’s coming.</p><p>Here are three EV stocks to buy to profit over the next decade. </p><h2 id=\"id_1601477486\">BYD (BYDDY)</h2><p><strong>Berkshire Hathaway </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>BRK-A</u></strong>, NYSE: <strong><u>BRK-B</u></strong>) owns $2.7 billion in <strong>BYD </strong>(OTCMKTS: <strong><u>BYDDY</u></strong>) stock. Warren Buffett’s holding company only owns $606 million in <strong>General Motors </strong>(NYSE: <strong><u>GM</u></strong>), a sign that he believes the Chinese automotive company will be a leader in the globalization of EVs. </p><p>Bloomberg reported at the beginning of November that BYD delivered another record month in October of selling both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). As a result, it will soon pass Tesla for quarterly pure-EV sales.</p><p>BYD sold 301,095 electric and hybrid vehicles in October, nearly 40% higher than a year earlier. According to Bloomberg, BYD sells one-third of all the new-energy vehicles in China. It passed <strong>Volkswagen </strong>(OTCMKTS: <strong><u>VWAGY</u></strong>) as the number-one seller of autos in China for the first time in history. </p><p>BYD has a goal to sell 3.0 million new energy vehicles in 2023. With two months to go, BYD needs to sell quite a bit over the final two months of the year. It’s going to be close. </p><p>In the long term, BYD will run circles around America’s biggest car companies. </p><h2 id=\"id_3924943269\">Tesla (TSLA)</h2><p>One alarming data point about Tesla is that the company’s biggest fan — portfolio manager Cathie Wood — has been reducing her position in the world’s largest pure-play EV company. </p><p>Tesla accounts for 8.68% of Wood’s <strong><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ARKK\">ARK Innovation ETF</a> </strong>(NYSEARCA: <strong><u>ARKK</u></strong>), her firm’s largest ETF by net assets. It is no longer the fund’s largest position but rather the third-largest. In June, it accounted for 12.5% of ARKK and was the largest. </p><p>Now, that doesn’t mean investors should read into the change. </p><p>“We will sell some and redeploy into stocks that have either been hit by some very short-term concern or have underperformed significantly relative to Tesla for some other reason,” Wood recently told Bloomberg<em>. </em></p><p>It makes sense. </p><p>In the past year, TSLA stock has experienced extreme volatility, both up and down. In January, it was under $110. By mid-February, it had nearly doubled. That’s one possible time to trim. Another would come in July. In late April, it traded around $154. By mid-July, it had nearly doubled once more. Trim some more. A third big move between mid-August and mid-September brought another opportunity to take profits. </p><p>When you consider Wood’s not bringing in new assets like she once did, one of the only ways to deploy capital in the short-term is by reallocating assets until Tesla falls again, rebuying the decline. </p><p>The biggest issue for Elon Musk and Tesla in the near term might be avoiding total embarrassment with the launch of the much-anticipated Cybertruck. A pre-production version was seen in California recently, and the comments posted about its looks were not encouraging. </p><p>Ultimately, Musk will figure it out. In the meantime, they’ll just have to sell lots of the updated Model 3. </p><h2 id=\"id_835023118\">Volkswagen (VWAGY)</h2><p>I recently saw a Volkswagen ID.4 driving on the streets of Halifax, where I live. It looked good live and in person. Of course, the ID Buzz earned all kinds of rave reviews from automotive critics. </p><p>“While most minivans struggle to be anything but appliances, there is a coolness and quirkiness, a charming mix of style and practicality to the ID Buzz that’s hugely appealing,” MotorTrend’s<em> </em>review concluded. </p><p>What more could you ask for?</p><p>The company’s third EV is the ID.7, a nice-looking sedan that approximates the size of the Passat, which VW retired in 2022. InsideEVs rated it 9 out of 10 when it reviewed the vehicle in April. Most importantly, its range is estimated to be 300 miles, which is good — if not great. </p><p>Investors were panicked by Chairman Oliver Blume’s comments on Nov. 1 about delaying its decision to build a fourth battery plant in Europe due to slower EV sales. </p><p>“Based on market conditions, including the sluggish ramp up of the BEV (battery electric vehicle) market in Europe…there is for the time being no business rationale for deciding on further sites,” Blume said.</p><p>As far as I’m concerned, VW has already done much more in the EV space than GM and <strong>Stellantis </strong>(NYSE:<strong><u>STLA</u></strong>). It’s going to be close. In the long term, BYD will run circles around America’s biggest car companies. Tesla (TSLA)One alarming data point about Tesla is that the company’s biggest fan — portfolio manager Cathie Wood — has been reducing her position in the world’s largest pure-play EV company. Tesla accounts for 8.68% of Wood’s ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEARCA: ARKK), her firm’s largest ETF by net assets. It is no longer the fund’s largest position but rather the third-largest. In June, it accounted for 12.5% of ARKK and was the largest. Now, that doesn’t mean investors should read into the change. “We will sell some and redeploy into stocks that have either been hit by some very short-term concern or have underperformed significantly relative to Tesla for some other reason,” Wood recently told Bloomberg. It makes sense. In the past year, TSLA stock has experienced extreme volatility, both up and down. In January, it was under $110. By mid-February, it had nearly doubled. That’s one possible time to trim. Another would come in July. In late April, it traded around $154. By mid-July, it had nearly doubled once more. Trim some more. A third big move between mid-August and mid-September brought another opportunity to take profits. When you consider Wood’s not bringing in new assets like she once did, one of the only ways to deploy capital in the short-term is by reallocating assets until Tesla falls again, rebuying the decline. The biggest issue for Elon Musk and Tesla in the near term might be avoiding total embarrassment with the launch of the much-anticipated Cybertruck. A pre-production version was seen in California recently, and the comments posted about its looks were not encouraging. Ultimately, Musk will figure it out. In the meantime, they’ll just have to sell lots of the updated Model 3. Volkswagen (VWAGY)I recently saw a Volkswagen ID.4 driving on the streets of Halifax, where I live. It looked good live and in person. Of course, the ID Buzz earned all kinds of rave reviews from automotive critics. “While most minivans struggle to be anything but appliances, there is a coolness and quirkiness, a charming mix of style and practicality to the ID Buzz that’s hugely appealing,” MotorTrend’s review concluded. What more could you ask for?The company’s third EV is the ID.7, a nice-looking sedan that approximates the size of the Passat, which VW retired in 2022. InsideEVs rated it 9 out of 10 when it reviewed the vehicle in April. Most importantly, its range is estimated to be 300 miles, which is good — if not great. Investors were panicked by Chairman Oliver Blume’s comments on Nov. 1 about delaying its decision to build a fourth battery plant in Europe due to slower EV sales. “Based on market conditions, including the sluggish ramp up of the BEV (battery electric vehicle) market in Europe…there is for the time being no business rationale for deciding on further sites,” Blume said.As far as I’m concerned, VW has already done much more in the EV space than GM and Stellantis (NYSE:STLA). Scaling is difficult. It doesn’t get easier, for cars anyway, after the initial scaling.</p><p>The electric vehicle posse has been after Tesla for years, and they’re closing in. Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) and Rivian (NASDAQ:RIVN) are delivering electric cars that look very Tesla-like. Ford Motor (NYSE:F) has begun doing the same. Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) is ramping up production. Chinese companies are now strong enough to get by on reduced government help.</p><p>To justify its current price, Tesla needs to become bigger than General Motors (NYSE:GM) or Ford within just a few years. Opening its German plant will help. But you’re still assuming last year’s growth of 83% in car deliveries can be replicated. You’re still assuming Tesla can produce, and sell, hundreds of thousands of its butt-ugly Cybertrucks in Texas against Ford, GM, and Toyota (NYSE:TM).</p><h2>Stock Market Exuberance</h2><p>Tesla stock has been falling even while pension funds like Canada’s have been piling in. The assumption is that Tesla is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), that its software, electricity, insurance and services will multiply the value of each Tesla sale. But almost 90% of Tesla revenue still comes from cars. Tesla is not a solar panel company either. Battery storage revenues fell 38% in 2021.</p><p>That’s not to say Tesla hasn’t performed well. It has.</p><p>But its stock price assumes it can keep growing near its present rate, even as electric car production elsewhere ramps up.</p><p>We saw this last year with cloud stocks. There’s a limit to what people will pay for growth. Tesla seems to have gone through that limit, at ludicrous speed.</p><p>Meanwhile the Musks have taken their eyes off the ball. Buying Bitcoin while pretending to be unaware of its environmental damage is just stupid. Going into the video game industry is also stupid.</p><h2>The Bottom Line on TSLA Stock</h2><p>There are limits to what investors should pay for growth.</p><p>I think Tesla has exceeded those limits.</p><p>This doesn’t mean Tesla is a bad company. I think it can easily grow its top line by 50% this year, profitably. But then that growth is going to slow. Big numbers are harder to shift. The diversity of income Tesla once promised isn’t happening. It’s still a car company, and Elon Musk is growing bored with it.</p><p>If you assume TSLA stock is worth 10 times current revenue, or that its profit can double and it’s worth 30 times that, you’re still looking at a big drop in its stock price. There have been 23 S&amp;P 500 bull markets since 1928. The average bull market has lasted 1,121 days, or just over three years. However, the past five bull markets have lasted at least 1,826 days.</p>\n<p>The bull market from March 2009 to February 2020 that ended when the pandemic hit lasted 3,999 days. The bull market from December 1987 to the bursting of the dot-com bubble in March 2000 lasted 4,494 days, or about 12.3 years.</p>\n<p>By duration, the current bull market is relatively young compared to most bull markets of the past. But it has certainly come a long way fast. In fact, in just 477 days, the current bull market’s 100% return off of trough lows is just 22% shy of the average bull market return since 1928.</p>\n<p>And just because a bear market was less than two years ago doesn’t mean investors are in the clear of a major market correction (a decline of at least 10% from the bull market peak) or another bear market (a decline of at least 20%). There have been 32 corrections and 21 bear markets since 1928, or roughly one every 21 months.</p>\n<p><b>Benzinga’s Take:</b>These historical numbers are a great way for investors to keep some perspective on where the S&amp;P 500 is and where it might be going. There have been 23 S&P 500 bull markets since 1928. The average bull market has lasted 1,121 days, or just over three years. However, the past five bull markets have lasted at least 1,826 days.\nThe bull market from March 2009 to February 2020 that ended when the pandemic hit lasted 3,999 days. The bull market from December 1987 to the bursting of the dot-com bubble in March 2000 lasted 4,494 days, or about 12.3 years.\nBy duration, the current bull market is relatively young compared to most bull markets of the past. But it has certainly come a long way fast. In fact, in just 477 days, the current bull market’s 100% return off of trough lows is just 22% shy of the average bull market return since 1928.\nAnd just because a bear market was less than two years ago doesn’t mean investors are in the clear of a major market correction (a decline of at least 10% from the bull market peak) or another bear market (a decline of at least 20%). Although the switch leaves you with more bills in your hand, the total value of your money adds up to the same amount. That&#39;s how a stock split works. You won&#39;t have more money in your account after the stock split, just more shares. If Tesla&#39;s stock is trading at $900 before the stock split, each share will be worth $300 after a 3-for-1 stock split. It all adds up to $900 worth of Tesla stock.</p><h2>How many shares of Tesla will you own after the stock split?</h2><p>You don&#39;t have to wait until the day of Tesla&#39;s stock split to figure out how many shares of stock you will own. Array Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRY) provides solar tracking solutions and services for utility-scale projects. Its products include DuraTrack HZ v3, a single-axis solar tracking system, and SmarTrack, a machine learning software that automatically adjusts module angles in response to weather and site conditions.</p><p>This stock had a red-hot initial public offering in 2020. Shares charged out of the gate, as the first trade was 34% above where the upsized IPO was priced. A total of 47.5 million shares were sold in the offering, as the maker of ground-mounting systems used in solar energy projects sold 7 million shares to raise $154 million and a selling shareholder sold 40.5 million shares.</p><p>Since then, Array Technologies stock has crashed and is offering investors an incredible entry point.</p><p>Goldman Sachs has a $21 price target on the shares, and the consensus target is $20.40. The stock closed trading on Thursday at $8.74. Hitting the Goldman Sachs target would be more than a 125% gain.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/GENI\">Genius Sports</a></p><p>This sports-betting-related stock has been hammered and holds massive upside potential, and it could even be a takeover target. Genius Sports Ltd. (NYSE: GENI) develops and sells technology-led products and services to the sports, sports betting and sports media industries.</p><p>The company offers technology infrastructure for the collection, integration and distribution of live data of sports leagues; streaming solutions, comprising of technology, automatic production and distribution for sports to commercialize video footage of their games; and end-to-end integrity services to sports leagues, such as full-time active monitoring technology, which uses mathematical algorithms to identify and flag suspicious betting activity in global betting markets, as well as full suite of online and offline educational and consultancy services.</p><p>Genius Sports also provides live sports data collection; pre-game and in-game odds feeds; risk management services, including customer profiling, monitoring of incoming bets, automated acceptance and rejection of bets, and limit setting; live streaming services; creation, delivery and measurement services for personalized online marketing campaigns; and fan engagement widgets for digital publishers that offer live game statistics and betting-related content.</p><p>The Goldman Sachs price objective of $10 compares with an $11.28 consensus target. With Genius Sports stock closing Thursday at $ 3.93, hitting the target would be a staggering 150% or more gain.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/KRON\">Kronos Bio</a></p><p>This microcap biotech may be the biggest winner of all the Goldman Sachs Buy-rated stocks under $10. Kronos Bio Inc. (NASDAQ: KRON) a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel cancer therapeutics.</p><p>The company’s product engine focuses on dysregulated transcription factors and the transcriptional regulatory networks that drive oncogenic activity. Its lead product candidate is entospletinib, an orally administered, selective spleen tyrosine kinase inhibitor for acute myeloid leukemia patients.</p><p>The company has planned a registrational Phase 3 clinical trial of entospletinib in combination with induction chemotherapy in acute myeloid leukemia patients with NPM1 mutations. It is also developing KB-0742, an orally bioavailable inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase 9 for the treatment of MYC-amplified solid tumors, which is in Phase 1/2 clinical trial.</p><p>The $37 Goldman Sachs price target is higher than the $31.25 consensus target. From Thursday’s closing share price of $5.89, the target represents well over a 500% gain.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/LVLU\">Lulu’s Fashion Lounge</a></p><p>This small-cap retailer blew out earnings expectations recently and looks ready to run much higher. Lulu’s Fashion Lounge Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLU) is an online fashion retailer of women’s apparel targeting millennial and Gen Z customers. It specializes in occasion dresses but also offers broader categories, including formal, bridal, lounge, vacation and basics. Lulus sells products on its website in the United States.</p><p>Its fiscal fourth-quarter adjusted diluted loss was smaller than analysts polled by Capital IQ had expected and much smaller than the loss in the year-ago period. Revenue was up year over year and also topped consensus estimates. Its projected net revenue for fiscal 2022 is greater than the analysts’ forecast as well, so an outstanding quarter for the company.</p><p>Goldman Sachs has set a $15 target price, but the consensus target is higher at $17.29 The stock last traded on Thursday at $9.74.  Hitting the Goldman Sachs target would be a 75% or so gain.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/RENT\">Rent the Runway</a></p><p>This may be an off-the-radar idea, but the upside potential is huge. Rent the Runway Inc. (NASDAQ: RENT) rents designer dresses, clothing and accessories for women through its stores and online platform. The company offers ready-to-wear, workwear, denim, casual, maternity, outerwear, blouses, knitwear, loungewear, activewear, ski wear, evening wear and kids wear products. It also offers jewelry, handbags and other accessories.</p><p>The stock has been absolutely mauled since it went public last October, and insiders have continued to buy shares during the freefall. The good news for investors considering shares now is the company has increased its subscribers substantially to 150,000 and has over 2.5 million lifetime customers.</p><p>The Goldman Sachs price target is $25. The $21.56 consensus target is also well above the final share price Thursday of $5.72. The Goldman Sachs target represents about a 330% gain.</p><p>These are five stocks for aggressive investors looking to get share count leverage on companies that have sizable upside potential. Both are generally unhealthy for economies and other living things.</p><p>Ultimately, Tesla isn’t falling because of Musk’s Twitter, a Justice Department probe of shorts or relations with the Biden administration.</p><p>It’s falling on fundamentals. Scaling is difficult. It doesn’t get easier, for cars anyway, after the initial scaling.</p><p>The electric vehicle posse has been after Tesla for years, and they’re closing in. Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) and Rivian (NASDAQ:RIVN) are delivering electric cars that look very Tesla-like. Ford Motor (NYSE:F) has begun doing the same. Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) is ramping up production. Chinese companies are now strong enough to get by on reduced government help.</p><p>To justify its current price, Tesla needs to become bigger than General Motors (NYSE:GM) or Ford within just a few years. Opening its German plant will help. But you’re still assuming last year’s growth of 83% in car deliveries can be replicated. You’re still assuming Tesla can produce, and sell, hundreds of thousands of its butt-ugly Cybertrucks in Texas against Ford, GM, and Toyota (NYSE:TM).</p><h2>Stock Market Exuberance</h2><p>Tesla stock has been falling even while pension funds like Canada’s have been piling in. The assumption is that Tesla is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), that its software, electricity, insurance and services will multiply the value of each Tesla sale. But almost 90% of Tesla revenue still comes from cars. Tesla is not a solar panel company either. Battery storage revenues fell 38% in 2021.</p><p>That’s not to say Tesla hasn’t performed well. It has.</p><p>But its stock price assumes it can keep growing near its present rate, even as electric car production elsewhere ramps up.</p><p>We saw this last year with cloud stocks. There’s a limit to what people will pay for growth. Tesla seems to have gone through that limit, at ludicrous speed.</p><p>Meanwhile the Musks have taken their eyes off the ball. Buying Bitcoin while pretending to be unaware of its environmental damage is just stupid. Going into the video game industry is also stupid.</p><h2>The Bottom Line on TSLA Stock</h2><p>There are limits to what investors should pay for growth.</p><p>I think Tesla has exceeded those limits.</p><p>This doesn’t mean Tesla is a bad company. I think it can easily grow its top line by 50% this year, profitably. But then that growth is going to slow. Big numbers are harder to shift. The diversity of income Tesla once promised isn’t happening. It’s still a car company, and Elon Musk is growing bored with it.</p><p>If you assume TSLA stock is worth 10 times current revenue, or that its profit can double and it’s worth 30 times that, you’re still looking at a big drop in its stock price.
