From that first trading session though Monday, shares are down about 22%. The Nasdaq Composite was off about 12%.</p><p>Nothing seems to be fundamentally wrong. Rising rates simply hurt fast-growing stocks more. Growth companies generate most of their earnings and cash flow far in the future—and that future cash flow becomes worth less in today’s dollars when discounted back at a higher rate.</p><p>With fundamentals apparently not the problem, Tesla stock is in the hands of the traders who—oftentimes—look at charts and patterns to determine when a stock has fallen too deep.</p><p>Tesla looked in trouble after shares fell below both their 50-day and 100-day moving averages last week. Moving averages are one of the important metrics used by traders. A stock can find support at one moving average but also can have trouble breaking through another one when shares are rising.</p><p>With Tesla at $930 a share, the next significant benchmark on the downside is the auto maker’s 200-day moving average of about $810 a share. There are many other technical indicators to watch, but that moving average is key for investors to watch in coming days. It should be the worse-case scenario for shares if the selling hasn’t stopped.</p><p>Tesla stock’s 100-day moving average is about $960. If shares can punch through that, then they could head back above $1,000. The stock’s 50-day moving average is about $1,050. The most obvious answer is \"income,\" but what may be more important is that the dividend increases over time. That's how you stay ahead of inflation. Even when official inflation figures are low, your personal inflation can be considerable, depending on your circumstances. Or you may need investment income to replace part of your working income when you retire.</p>\n<p>Here's a recent list of the 30 stocks in the S&amp;P 500 index whose dividends increased the most over the past five years . Their dividend yields may not have been very high to begin with, but if you had held them for five years, the yields on your five-year-old shares would have grown significantly.</p>\n<p>For this new screen, we took a different approach to focus more on higher current dividend yields. Beginning with the S&amp;P Composite 1500 Index (made up of the S&amp;P 500 , the S&amp;P Mid Cap 400 Index <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MID\">$(MID)$</a> and the S&amp;P Small Cap 600 Index ), we started with stocks with dividend yields of at least 4.26% -- three times the 1.42% yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes on July 13.</p>\n<p>Then we looked at free cash flow yields. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)</p>\n<p>Financial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. So there is a separate screen for that group below.</p>\n<p>Starting with the S&amp;P Composite 1500, here are the eight stocks that made the cut, with dividend yields of at least 4.26%, positive forward and trailing FCF \"headroom\" and no dividend cuts over the past three years, according to data provided by FactSet. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.</p>\n<p>A trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. A company's free cash flow is its remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures. It can be used to increase dividends, buy back stock, pay down debt, business expansion or fund acquisitions. A free cash flow yield that is higher than the dividend yield can provide investors with some comfort that a company is unlikely to cut its dividend and maybe be in a position to increase it.\nA trailing free cash flow yield can be calculated by dividing the past four quarters' free cash flow per share by the current share price. If available, consensus estimates for the next 12 months can be used to calculate a forward FCF yield. If the FCF yield is above the current dividend yield, there is free cash flow \"headroom.\" (The screen below only includes companies for which forward FCF estimates were available from FactSet.)\nFinancial companies were excluded from the screen, as FCF yield analysis isn't appropriate for the group. Companies with fewer than five analysts polled for FactSet's estimates were also excluded. For real estate investment trusts, funds from operations (FFO) is the industry standard for gauging dividend-paying ability. This is especially important with inflation rising 7.5% in January over the year-ago period, which is the highest reading since February 1982.</p><p><b>Johnson &amp; Johnson</b> is a Dividend King that should be able to offset the decrease in purchasing power that inflation creates. Let&#39;s dig into why that&#39;s the case and what makes J&amp;J a buy for income investors.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/43242d47b860375c9e70c6eaabc0f2cc\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><p><b>A great 2021 and promising future</b></p><p>J&amp;J generated impressive revenue and non-GAAP (adjusted) diluted earnings per share growth in 2021. The company reported $93.78 billion in sales, which represented 13.6% growth over 2020. For context, this managed to beat the company&#39;s initial revenue guidance of $90.5 billion to $91.7 billion.</p><p>How did J&amp;J produce robust sales growth last year? Well, all three of its business segments grew revenue. The slower-growing consumer health segment that will be spun off in the next year or two grew revenue by mid-single digits, and the medical devices and pharmaceutical segments grew revenue by percentages in the teens.</p><p>But the bulk of the company&#39;s sales growth (58.2%) came from the pharmaceutical segment, which grew revenue 14.3% over 2020 to $52.08 billion last year. The largest source of growth within the segment was the company&#39;s COVID-19 vaccine, which brought in $2.39 billion during the year. Since J&amp;J&#39;s COVID-19 vaccine wasn&#39;t granted Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration until last February, all of the revenue from the product was pure growth over 2020.</p><p>J&amp;J&#39;s multiple myeloma (blood cancer) drug Darzalex was the second-largest sales growth catalyst for the company last year. The drug posted $6.02 billion in revenue, which was a blistering 43.8% growth rate compared to 2020. The third-largest sales growth catalyst for J&amp;J was its immunology drug Stelara. The blockbuster drug&#39;s revenue surged 18.3% higher year over year to $9.13 billion in 2021.</p><p>J&amp;J&#39;s higher revenue base and a 200-basis point expansion in non-GAAPnet marginto 27.9% helped catapult its profitability higher. J&amp;J&#39;s non-GAAP diluted earnings per share soared 22% higher to $9.80 in 2021.</p><p>Thanks to its solid, existing drug portfolio and pipeline of drugs in clinical trials, analysts are expecting J&amp;J will deliver 6%-plus annual earnings growth in the next five years.</p><p><b>Inflation-topping dividend growth</b></p><p>J&amp;J appears positioned to continue its steady earnings growth in the years ahead. This bodes well for the company&#39;s ability to build on its 59 consecutive years of dividend increases, which is the longest streak in all of healthcare.</p><p>J&amp;J&#39;s modest 42.8% dividend payout ratio in 2021 should give it the flexibility to grow its dividend slightly ahead of the 6.4% annual earnings growth potential for the medium term. Even with inflation at its current high, J&amp;J should be able to narrowly beat it with its upcoming dividend raise in April. Given J&amp;J&#39;s 2.5% dividend yield, this is an attractive combo of yield and dividend growth prospects.</p><p><b>A fortress-like balance sheet</b></p><p>J&amp;J also boasts a AAA credit rating, which sets it apart from all other healthcare companies in the U.S. Aside from its consistent earnings growth and sustainable dividend, why is J&amp;J&#39;s credit rating unblemished? Here&#39;s why.</p><p>J&amp;J&#39;s interest coverage ratio in 2021 was 176.2 ($22.91 billion in earnings before interest and taxes/$130 million in interest costs). J&amp;J&#39;s EBIT would have to crash to virtually zero before the company wouldn&#39;t be able to cover its interest expenses. While this isn&#39;t impossible, it&#39;s extremely unlikely when considering how well J&amp;J has held up through numerous recessions, wars, inflationary periods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p><b>A world-class business at a discount</b></p><p>As is evidenced by its track record and fundamentals, J&amp;J is one of the best businesses in the world. However, the valuation of J&amp;J&#39;s stock doesn&#39;t reflect that quality.</p><p>That&#39;s because at the current $167 share price, J&amp;J is trading at a price-to-earnings ratio of 15.9. This is especially important with inflation rising 7.5% in January over the year-ago period, which is the highest reading since February 1982.Johnson & Johnson is a Dividend King that should be able to offset the decrease in purchasing power that inflation creates. Let's dig into why that's the case and what makes J&J a buy for income investors.Image source: Getty Images.A great 2021 and promising futureJ&J generated impressive revenue and non-GAAP (adjusted) diluted earnings per share growth in 2021. The company reported $93.78 billion in sales, which represented 13.6% growth over 2020. For context, this managed to beat the company's initial revenue guidance of $90.5 billion to $91.7 billion.How did J&J produce robust sales growth last year? Well, all three of its business segments grew revenue. The slower-growing consumer health segment that will be spun off in the next year or two grew revenue by mid-single digits, and the medical devices and pharmaceutical segments grew revenue by percentages in the teens.But the bulk of the company's sales growth (58.2%) came from the pharmaceutical segment, which grew revenue 14.3% over 2020 to $52.08 billion last year. The largest source of growth within the segment was the company's COVID-19 vaccine, which brought in $2.39 billion during the year. Since J&J's COVID-19 vaccine wasn't granted Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration until last February, all of the revenue from the product was pure growth over 2020.J&J's multiple myeloma (blood cancer) drug Darzalex was the second-largest sales growth catalyst for the company last year. The drug posted $6.02 billion in revenue, which was a blistering 43.8% growth rate compared to 2020. The third-largest sales growth catalyst for J&J was its immunology drug Stelara. The blockbuster drug's revenue surged 18.3% higher year over year to $9.13 billion in 2021.J&J's higher revenue base and a 200-basis point expansion in non-GAAPnet marginto 27.9% helped catapult its profitability higher. J&J's non-GAAP diluted earnings per share soared 22% higher to $9.80 in 2021.Thanks to its solid, existing drug portfolio and pipeline of drugs in clinical trials, analysts are expecting J&J will deliver 6%-plus annual earnings growth in the next five years.Inflation-topping dividend growthJ&J appears positioned to continue its steady earnings growth in the years ahead. This bodes well for the company's ability to build on its 59 consecutive years of dividend increases, which is the longest streak in all of healthcare.J&J's modest 42.8% dividend payout ratio in 2021 should give it the flexibility to grow its dividend slightly ahead of the 6.4% annual earnings growth potential for the medium term. Even with inflation at its current high, J&J should be able to narrowly beat it with its upcoming dividend raise in April. Given J&J's 2.5% dividend yield, this is an attractive combo of yield and dividend growth prospects.A fortress-like balance sheetJ&J also boasts a AAA credit rating, which sets it apart from all other healthcare companies in the U.S. Aside from its consistent earnings growth and sustainable dividend, why is J&J's credit rating unblemished? Here's why.J&J's interest coverage ratio in 2021 was 176.2 ($22.91 billion in earnings before interest and taxes/$130 million in interest costs). J&J's EBIT would have to crash to virtually zero before the company wouldn't be able to cover its interest expenses. While this isn't impossible, it's extremely unlikely when considering how well J&J has held up through numerous recessions, wars, inflationary periods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.A world-class business at a discountAs is evidenced by its track record and fundamentals, J&J is one of the best businesses in the world. However, the valuation of J&J's stock doesn't reflect that quality.That's because at the current $167 share price, J&J is trading at a price-to-earnings ratio of 15.9. If you look at the EV leader as a “pure car company,” then yes, says Morgan Stanley’s Adam Jonas, Tesla is overvalued.“However,” the 5-star analyst went on to say, “the company may be substantially undervalued as a renewable energy on-shore infrastructure company.” In fact, Jonas views Tesla as the “ultimate battery capex play.”What recent events have shown us is that the world needs to “transition off of the fossil fuel economy (aka the molecular energy economy)” and into the renewable economy. More crudely, the combined effect of war + inflation will result in “energy innovation.”And here investors must ponder the new energy supply chain and supporting infrastructure. In the year ahead, Jonas expects Tesla, and fellow auto industry luminaries to show investors how important they are for this transformation to take place. With Tesla leading the way, Jonas expects “many other auto companies to play a critical role in re-architecting the renewable energy/transport industry.”What this will involve is no less than the MOACC – the Mother of All Capex Cycles. Over the next 20 years, to move off of fossil fuels, Jonas reckons that as much as $20 to $40 trillion will need to be spent in “accumulated capex and R&D.” So far, only 1% of this amount has gone toward this endeavor while to-date, not even 3% has even been allocated.“While many investors are still focused on whether GM can outperform Ford by 5 or 10% this year (or vice versa),” Jonas summed up, “the global renewable energy/battery capex cycle is where the real alpha is, in our opinion.”All in all, there’s no change to Jonas’ rating on TSLA, which remains an Overweight (i.e., Buy).
