SoFi posted impressive revenue gains Y/Y and the FinTech is set for continual growth. The stock is a buy!
\n
Why SoFi Technologies is a buy
\n
SoFi is a rapidly growing FinTech company whose customer count has really taken off in the last two years. Members - which is SoFi’s term for its customers - have grown from 759,000 in Q2’19 to $2.56M in Q2’21, which is equal to an annual growth rate of 84%. SoFi’s growth accelerated during the pandemic as more people relied on mobile devices to bank and invest. Although the pandemic effects have started to wear off and people returned to work again in Q2’21, the FinTech continued to see strong Q/Q growth in its customer base. SoFi signed on 279,000 new members in the last quarter, which is an increase of 12% Q/Q. If SoFi continues to grow at this rate, the firm should see at least 3M members by the end of the year.
\n
(Source:SoFi)
\n
Besides offering lending and financial services products, SoFi owns a payment processing platform aimed at the enterprise market. The digital payments platform operates under the brand “Galileo” and it has also seen strong continual customer growth. Growth in Galileo accounts moderated slightly in Q2’21, but still grew 119% Y/Y. During the last quarter, Galileo gained 9M new customers and the FinTech had 79M customer on its digital payments platform at the end of the quarter.
\n
(Source: SoFi)
\n
The strength of SoFi's personal finance platform is that it provides a one-stop banking solution for customers that require more than just one product. A customer that needs student loan refinancing may also need a credit card or purchase a mortgage financing solution from SoFi Technologies. Once a customer is signed on to the platform and part of the ecosystem, SoFi can target the member with customized offers.
\n
(Source: SoFi)
\n
SoFi does a good job at that. The firm rolled out more tailored products in Q2’21, with strong growth present in the financial services category. The biggest growth opportunity for the FinTech is financial services and the firm is adding new products to improve uptake and customer monetization. Financial services products grew 243% Y/Y to 2.69M and are the driving source behind SoFi’s revenue growth.
\n
(Source: SoFi)
\n
The second-quarter is generally a strong quarter for SoFi. Revenues for the second-quarter were $237M, showing growth of 74% Y/Y. SoFi’s Q2’21 adjusted EBITDA reached $11M which means the personal finance platform has been profitable for four straight quarters. The FinTech’s total adjusted EBITDA over the last twelve months totaled $61M on revenues of $852M.
\n
(Source: SoFi)
\n
Strong liquidity, low debt
\n
As a FinTech company, SoFi’s main assets are the personal finance and payment processing platforms it owns, and the human capital behind it. SoFi carries $2.3B of financial debt and is flush in cash… with $462M directly available for the firm’s digital growth strategy.
\n
(Source:SoFi)
\n
Buy, buy, buy
\n
SoFi reiterated its outlook for the rest of the year and continues to project $980M in revenues and $27M in adjusted EBITDA for FY 2021. The personal finance platform also expects to see its first positive EBITDA margin this year. The guidance implies 58% Y/Y growth in revenues with strong momentum continuing in member acquisition.
\n
(Source: SoFi)
\n
Although SoFi reiterated its guidance and the earnings card was showing continual growth along key metrics, shares of SoFi slumped 14% last week...
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
The drop creates another buy-the-drop situation for SoFi since the company is just at the very beginning of its growth. If current growth rates prove to be sustainable, SoFi could have 10M members by FY 2025 and revenues of $3.6B. Revenue estimates imply very strong revenue growth for at least the next four years. Based on expected sales of $1.5B in FY 2022, shares of SoFi trade a P-S ratio of 7.6. In June, shares of SoFi traded at a P-S ratio of 11.0.
\n
(Source: Seeking Alpha)
\n
Risks with SoFi
\n
FinTech companies can be hard to value because they are growing fast and have small or no profits. Although SoFi is profitable regarding EBITDA, the FinTech continues to post net losses… and it will likely continue to do so for a few more years as it prioritizes member and platform growth.
\n
Personalized banking is a growth opportunity in the FinTech sector, but not only for SoFi. The pandemic accelerated FinTech adoption and other digital payment companies are making moves to expand their platforms.
\n
SoFi has no perceptible moat in its platform business which poses a challenge to long term profitability and customer retention. Other banks/FinTechs can easily enter the market and offer similar, better or more differentiated financial services products. Declining member and revenue growth rates are possibly the two most defining risks for SoFi at this point in time, with delayed profitability being only a secondary risk.
\n
Final thoughts
\n
SoFi’s second-quarter was good: Member and revenue figures kept surging and the FinTech continued to roll out new financial services products, the firm’s fastest area of growth. SoFi posted impressive revenue gains Y/Y and the FinTech is set for continual growth. The stock is a buy!\nWhy SoFi Technologies is a buy\nSoFi is a rapidly growing FinTech company whose customer count has really taken off in the last two years. If SoFi continues to grow at this rate, the firm should see at least 3M members by the end of the year.\n(Source:SoFi)\nBesides offering lending and financial services products, SoFi owns a payment processing platform aimed at the enterprise market. The digital payments platform operates under the brand “Galileo” and it has also seen strong continual customer growth. Growth in Galileo accounts moderated slightly in Q2’21, but still grew 119% Y/Y. During the last quarter, Galileo gained 9M new customers and the FinTech had 79M customer on its digital payments platform at the end of the quarter.\n(Source: SoFi)\nThe strength of SoFi's personal finance platform is that it provides a one-stop banking solution for customers that require more than just one product. A customer that needs student loan refinancing may also need a credit card or purchase a mortgage financing solution from SoFi Technologies. Once a customer is signed on to the platform and part of the ecosystem, SoFi can target the member with customized offers.\n(Source: SoFi)\nSoFi does a good job at that. The firm rolled out more tailored products in Q2’21, with strong growth present in the financial services category. The biggest growth opportunity for the FinTech is financial services and the firm is adding new products to improve uptake and customer monetization. Financial services products grew 243% Y/Y to 2.69M and are the driving source behind SoFi’s revenue growth.\n(Source: SoFi)\nThe second-quarter is generally a strong quarter for SoFi. Revenues for the second-quarter were $237M, showing growth of 74% Y/Y. SoFi’s Q2’21 adjusted EBITDA reached $11M which means the personal finance platform has been profitable for four straight quarters. The FinTech’s total adjusted EBITDA over the last twelve months totaled $61M on revenues of $852M.\n(Source: SoFi)\nStrong liquidity, low debt\nAs a FinTech company, SoFi’s main assets are the personal finance and payment processing platforms it owns, and the human capital behind it. SoFi carries $2.3B of financial debt and is flush in cash… with $462M directly available for the firm’s digital growth strategy.\n(Source:SoFi)\nBuy, buy, buy\nSoFi reiterated its outlook for the rest of the year and continues to project $980M in revenues and $27M in adjusted EBITDA for FY 2021. The personal finance platform also expects to see its first positive EBITDA margin this year. The guidance implies 58% Y/Y growth in revenues with strong momentum continuing in member acquisition.\n(Source: SoFi)\nAlthough SoFi reiterated its guidance and the earnings card was showing continual growth along key metrics, shares of SoFi slumped 14% last week...\nData by YCharts\nThe drop creates another buy-the-drop situation for SoFi since the company is just at the very beginning of its growth. In June, shares of SoFi traded at a P-S ratio of 11.0.\n(Source: Seeking Alpha)\nRisks with SoFi\nFinTech companies can be hard to value because they are growing fast and have small or no profits. Although SoFi is profitable regarding EBITDA, the FinTech continues to post net losses… and it will likely continue to do so for a few more years as it prioritizes member and platform growth.\nPersonalized banking is a growth opportunity in the FinTech sector, but not only for SoFi. The pandemic accelerated FinTech adoption and other digital payment companies are making moves to expand their platforms.\nSoFi has no perceptible moat in its platform business which poses a challenge to long term profitability and customer retention. Other banks/FinTechs can easily enter the market and offer similar, better or more differentiated financial services products. Declining member and revenue growth rates are possibly the two most defining risks for SoFi at this point in time, with delayed profitability being only a secondary risk.\nFinal thoughts\nSoFi’s second-quarter was good: Member and revenue figures kept surging and the FinTech continued to roll out new financial services products, the firm’s fastest area of growth. The full year revenue outlook was reiterated, showing that the FinTech is confident in achieving its business goals. The slump after earnings creates another buy-the-drop situation for SoFi as the FinTech gets ready to reach 3M customers by year-end. This pa","content":"
The EV-SPAC vehicle rally has turned into a rout, and things might not improve anytime soon. This past week was dreadful for electric-vehicle stocks that came to market via special-purpose acquisition vehicles, or SPACS. Nikola (NKLA) shares dropped 15.2% after former CEO Trevor Milton was charged with securities fraud.Faraday Future Intelligent Electric(FFIE) fell 18.5%.Lordstown Motors(RIDE) was down 16.5%, while Arrival (ARVL) lost 6.8%.
\n
There are company-specific reasons for stock drops, but the broader picture is clear: Investors have serious doubts about some EV start-ups.
\n
And rightfully so. All of the EV-SPACs are essentially start-ups, and have no sales yet. That makes cash, or lack of it, a problem. Lordstown Motors, for instance, has lost 53% since early June, when the company’s auditor warned investors that Lordstown needed more cash to commercialize its Endurance electric pickup truck. And this for a company with about $590 million on its balance sheet as of March 31.
\n
The EV stocks with the best balance sheets are performing better than the rest. EV-SPAC companies with less than $1 billion on the balance sheet are down about 75% from their 52-week highs. EV-SPAC companies with roughly $1 billion or more are down “just” 50%. Still, picking over the damaged stocks is hard—even dangerous. Before Nikola’s latest dip on Thursday, shares were down about 85% from all-time highs, but had rallied almost 20% over the past three months. Turns out, the rally wasn’t a buy signal.
\n
For investors, it’s probably a good idea to avoid every EV start-up without at least $1 billion in cash on the balance sheet. Of the dozen or so EV start-ups that went public via SPACs, just three meet that threshold: Fisker (FSR), Lucid (LCID), and Faraday Future. The three are expected to have a combined $26 billion in full-year sales by 2024. Tesla (TSLA) had $42 billion in sales over the past 12 months.
\n
Lucid trades for nine times its cash balance. Fisker and Faraday are trading at about five and four times their cash balances, respectively, and may be a good place to start. Both have about $1 billion in cash.
\n
Faraday just closed its SPAC merger, bringing that cash in the door. Fisker has just below $1 billion, but plans to outsource manufacturing rather than build its own plants. For investors who just have to own high-risk EV stocks, they may be the way to go, though it pays to remember that cash is just a starting point. Ample cash isn’t the only requirement for a start-up.
\n
Perhaps that’s why Tesla had such a good week, gaining 6.8%, its best since late June. Milton used to model himself after Elon Musk, choosing Nikola Tesla’s first name for his company, launching a pickup truck after Tesla launched its Cybertruck, and sparring on Twitter. But that’s the thing. There’s only one Tesla.
\n
Investors should stop looking for the next one.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
EV Stocks Might Not Rebound Anytime Soon. As the global economy has regained its footing, prices for goods and services have risen—in many casesfar fasterthan economists had anticipated. Labor shortages and supply-chain disruptions snarling the global shipping industry have added to inflationary pressures.
\n
The trend has worried many investors, since inflation can chip into companies’ profit margins, pressuring share prices. It can also eat away at the purchasing power of government bonds’ fixed returns. In the days ahead, investors will get a look at fresh economic data including factory orders, vehicle sales and the monthly employment report.
\n
Yet markets are starting to signal that investors may be growing less fearful.
\n
Take the break-even rate. Calculated by measuring the difference in yields between Treasurys and their inflation-protected counterparts, or TIPS, the break-even rate shows how much inflation traders anticipate over a period of time. Since peaking for the year in May, the break-even rates for five-, seven-, and 10-year Treasurys have all fallen—suggesting traders are pricing in a moderation in inflation in coming years.
\n
Traders expect inflation will be higher in thenext couple of years than in the longer term, adeparture from the past decade.
\n
Break-even inflation rate
\n
Source: Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis via St.Louis Fed
\n
In another twist, the five-year break-even rate, which currently trades around 2.58%, has surpassed the 10-year rate, which sits around 2.43%. In contrast, the Labor Department’s main gauge ofconsumer prices jumped 5.4% in Junefrom the 12 months prior—the biggest rise in prices recorded since August 2008.
\n
Put in other words: traders know inflation is hot now; but they are betting that price pressures will ease up significantly, not just in the next few years but over the next decade.
\n
“Markets seem to be taking it in stride,” said Jeffrey Kleintop, chief global investment strategist at Charles Schwab, noting stock indexes from the U.S. to Europe have managed to climb to records in the past month.
\n
While some of his peers continue to fear inflation will rise at levels that might force the Federal Reserve to step in and sharply rein in its easy-money policies, Mr. Kleintop isn’t as concerned. If there is anything he’s worried about these days, it is that thefast-spreading Delta variantof Covid-19 might wind up disrupting the U.S. recovery.
\n
Recent swings in stock and bond markets “seem more driven by prospects for a downturn driven by more [pandemic-related] lockdowns, rather than downturns from withdrawn support from the Fed,” Mr. Kleintop said.
\n
Economists had expected inflation numbers to be elevated this spring and summer thanks to comparisons to deeply depressed prices a year earlier. But they have far exceeded even those expectations.
\n
In April, May and June, the consumer-price index rose a non-seasonally adjusted 0.9% on average, 0.6 percentage point higher than the average over that period from 2010 through 2019.
\n
Investors, though, have hardly been rattled.
\n
CPI inflation swaps—derivatives used by traders to make precise inflation bets—indicate investors are looking for just one or two more months of eye-popping inflation, with the non-seasonally adjusted CPI index expected to rise 0.6% in July—a month in which, on average, it didn’t rise at all in the 2010-2019 period. After August, monthly inflation is expected to be only a little above average, though year-over-year readings could still exceed 5% before dropping sharply next year.
\n
Used cars and trucksplay a major partin investors’ thinking. In June, their prices rose 10.5% from the previous month, driving a third of the rise in overall CPI. Many, though, believe used-car prices could rise more slowly later in the year or even decline, as auto companies ramp up the supply of new cars and consumers start shopping more carefully.
\n
Overall, the consensus on Wall Street is that different supply shortages will, one by one, eventually be resolved; at the same time, consumer demand will normalize as the government sends less money to households with the expiration of coronavirus-relief programs.
\n
Markets are saying “yes, we might get some strong inflation, but it’s not likely to be structural inflation,” said Michael Pond, head of global inflation-linked research atBarclays.
\n
Betting on short-term inflation—whether through swaps or off-the-run Treasury-inflation protected securities—has offered unusual opportunities this year. An ICE BofA index of TIPS with remaining maturities of one to nearly five years has returned 4.4% this year, compared with negative 0.1% for non-inflation protected Treasurys of the same maturity range.
\n
Holders of TIPS are compensated with additional principal and coupon payments when CPI rises, meaning they outearn holders of nominal Treasurys if inflation exceeds expectations but earn less if prices don’t rise as much as expected.
\n
“Short-term TIPS have done incredibly well mainly because the inflation compensation component is very large,” said Gemma Wright-Casparius, senior portfolio manager at Vanguard Group, who leads the firm’s actively managed Treasury and inflation bond funds.
\n
Ms. Wright-Casparius said her team added TIPS to Vanguard’s actively managed Treasury funds last year when inflation expectations were deeply depressed but is now more neutral on inflation, seeing the market as adequately priced for what lies ahead.
\n
Some investors and analysts still think high inflation could linger longer than many expect, thanks to both strong consumer demand and continued supply disruptions.
\n
Even if used-car prices decline, othercategories such as housing could push in the other direction with household balance sheets in their strongest position in decades, said Aneta Markowska, chief economist at Jefferies LLC.
\n
Long-term inflation expectations have been also closely linked with the outlook for Federal Reserve policy, typically rising whenever it seems the Fed will take a longer time to tighten monetary policy by tapering bond purchases and raising interest rates.
\n
Just in the past few days, the 10-year break-even rate has ticked higher after Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the central bank had made no decision about when to start reducing bond purchases and would beunlikely to raise ratesuntil it was done with tapering.
\n
Still, for many investors, the overall picture looks more benign than it did a few months ago.
\n
“Our expectation is that inflation is going to settle into a two to three percent clip. And that’s not bad for the market,” said Jason Pride, chief investment officer of private wealth for Glenmede.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Inflation Is Hot Now, but Investors Are Betting That Won’t Last
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nInflation Is Hot Now, but Investors Are Betting That Won’t Last\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-02 13:25 GMT+8 The Wall Street Journal\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Investors are betting the inflationary streak that has sent prices of everything from used cars to lumber soaring will fade in the coming years, a reassuring sign for markets struggling to find ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite","SPY":"标普500ETF",".DJI":"道琼斯",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://www.wsj.com/articles/inflation-is-hot-now-but-investors-are-betting-that-wont-last-11627810380?mod=hp_lead_pos1","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1149048645","content_text":"Investors are betting the inflationary streak that has sent prices of everything from used cars to lumber soaring will fade in the coming years, a reassuring sign for markets struggling to find direction.\nFew issues have vexed money managers more this year than inflation. In contrast, the Labor Department’s main gauge ofconsumer prices jumped 5.4% in Junefrom the 12 months prior—the biggest rise in prices recorded since August 2008.\nPut in other words: traders know inflation is hot now; but they are betting that price pressures will ease up significantly, not just in the next few years but over the next decade.\n“Markets seem to be taking it in stride,” said Jeffrey Kleintop, chief global investment strategist at Charles Schwab, noting stock indexes from the U.S. to Europe have managed to climb to records in the past month.\nWhile some of his peers continue to fear inflation will rise at levels that might force the Federal Reserve to step in and sharply rein in its easy-money policies, Mr. Kleintop isn’t as concerned. If there is anything he’s worried about these days, it is that thefast-spreading Delta variantof Covid-19 might wind up disrupting the U.S. recovery.\nRecent swings in stock and bond markets “seem more driven by prospects for a downturn driven by more [pandemic-related] lockdowns, rather than downturns from withdrawn support from the Fed,” Mr. Kleintop said.\nEconomists had expected inflation numbers to be elevated this spring and summer thanks to comparisons to deeply depressed prices a year earlier. But they have far exceeded even those expectations.\nIn April, May and June, the consumer-price index rose a non-seasonally adjusted 0.9% on average, 0.6 percentage point higher than the average over that period from 2010 through 2019.\nInvestors, though, have hardly been rattled.\nCPI inflation swaps—derivatives used by traders to make precise inflation bets—indicate investors are looking for just one or two more months of eye-popping inflation, with the non-seasonally adjusted CPI index expected to rise 0.6% in July—a month in which, on average, it didn’t rise at all in the 2010-2019 period. After August, monthly inflation is expected to be only a little above average, though year-over-year readings could still exceed 5% before dropping sharply next year.\nUsed cars and trucksplay a major partin investors’ thinking. In June, their prices rose 10.5% from the previous month, driving a third of the rise in overall CPI. Many, though, believe used-car prices could rise more slowly later in the year or even decline, as auto companies ramp up the supply of new cars and consumers start shopping more carefully.\nOverall, the consensus on Wall Street is that different supply shortages will, one by one, eventually be resolved; at the same time, consumer demand will normalize as the government sends less money to households with the expiration of coronavirus-relief programs.\nMarkets are saying “yes, we might get some strong inflation, but it’s not likely to be structural inflation,” said Michael Pond, head of global inflation-linked research atBarclays.\nBetting on short-term inflation—whether through swaps or off-the-run Treasury-inflation protected securities—has offered unusual opportunities this year. An ICE BofA index of TIPS with remaining maturities of one to nearly five years has returned 4.4% this year, compared with negative 0.1% for non-inflation protected Treasurys of the same maturity range.\nHolders of TIPS are compensated with additional principal and coupon payments when CPI rises, meaning they outearn holders of nominal Treasurys if inflation exceeds expectations but earn less if prices don’t rise as much as expected.\n“Short-term TIPS have done incredibly well mainly because the inflation compensation component is very large,” said Gemma Wright-Casparius, senior portfolio manager at Vanguard Group, who leads the firm’s actively managed Treasury and inflation bond funds.\nMs. Wright-Casparius said her team added TIPS to Vanguard’s actively managed Treasury funds last year when inflation expectations were deeply depressed but is now more neutral on inflation, seeing the market as adequately priced for what lies ahead.\nSome investors and analysts still think high inflation could linger longer than many expect, thanks to both strong consumer demand and continued supply disruptions.\nEven if used-car prices decline, othercategories such as housing could push in the other direction with household balance sheets in their strongest position in decades, said Aneta Markowska, chief economist at Jefferies LLC.\nLong-term inflation expectations have been also closely linked with the outlook for Federal Reserve policy, typically rising whenever it seems the Fed will take a longer time to tighten monetary policy by tapering bond purchases and raising interest rates.\nJust in the past few days, the 10-year break-even rate has ticked higher after Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the central bank had made no decision about when to start reducing bond purchases and would beunlikely to raise ratesuntil it was done with tapering.\nStill, for many investors, the overall picture looks more benign than it did a few months ago.\n“Our expectation is that inflation is going to settle into a two to three percent clip. And that’s not bad for the market,” said Jason Pride, chief investment officer of private wealth for Glenmede.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":894615735,"gmtCreate":1628821377227,"gmtModify":1676529865635,"author":{"id":"3578612626332852","authorId":"3578612626332852","name":"KRIS0330","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c66660a5496fad25bd4bfe7c228b1cef","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578612626332852","authorIdStr":"3578612626332852"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/894615735","repostId":"1188620903","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":358,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":839672073,"gmtCreate":1629159061792,"gmtModify":1676529947342,"author":{"id":"3578612626332852","authorId":"3578612626332852","name":"KRIS0330","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c66660a5496fad25bd4bfe7c228b1cef","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578612626332852","authorIdStr":"3578612626332852"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!
