latest news and","content":"

Welcome to this week’s edition of top stock market highlights where we bring you the latest news and corporate events.

Bank home loan rates

The trio of local banks, namely DBS Group(SGX: D05), United Overseas Bank Ltd(SGX: U11), or UOB, and OCBC Ltd(SGX: O39), have once again raised the rates on their mortgage loan offerings.

The latest increase is in line withrising interest ratesas the US Federal Reserve hikes its benchmark policy rate to deal withsurging inflation.

Singapore’s largest bank, DBS, is raising its fixed-rate housing loan interest rate to 3.5% from the earlier 2.75%.

This new rate now applies to all four of the lender’s packages with tenors of between two to five years.

Meanwhile, UOB announced that its two-year and three-year fixed-rate home loans bear interest rates of 3.75% and 3.85%, respectively.

Not to be outdone, OCBC has revised its two-year fixed rate to 3.5%, up from 2.98% just a fortnight ago.

The bank is also re-launching its one-year fixed rate package at 3.35%.

With higher rates across the board, homeowners should be prepared to fork out more in interest payments when they refinance their housing loans.

Singapore retail sales

Retail sales continued to rise in Singapore in August, continuing the trend seen in July.

Sales increased 13% year on year in August, slightly lower than the 13.9% year on year chalked up in the previous month.

The latest increase did fall below the 15.4% that analysts had expected.

The estimated total retail sales value for August came in at S$3.8 billion, of which online sales took up a 12.5% share.

Despite the slightly weaker numbers, August’s retail sales still represented a fifth consecutive month of double-digit year on year growth.

At the same time, elevated core inflation could dampen consumer demand in the months to come.

Along with higher interest rates, more households may tighten their belts and cut back on spending to service higher mortgage payments.

SATS Ltd (SGX: S58)

SATS has seen its share price lose a fifth of its value since it announced theacquisition of Worldwide Flight Servicesfor almost S$1.64 billion.

Investors were concerned that the ground handler will finance the deal with a potential rights issue to raise the required S$1.7 billion to finance the purchase.

CEO Kerry Mok has come out to assure investors that the group is looking out for their interests and that a rights issue is one of four funding sources for the mega-deal.

He also acknowledged that SATS will have to scale down the size of the rights issue as in his own words: “the market does not like rights issues”.

In its original announcement for the acquisition, SATS had presented a funding plan that will involve the issuance of 609 million new shares at S$2.79 apiece.

The rights issue price was a steep discount of 28% to the food caterer’s then-closing price of S$3.87.

Other funding sources put forward include an acquisition bridge facility of €1.2 billion (around S$1.7 billion), internal cash resources, and new strategic investors.

The group may also tap into a mixture of the four sources to come up with an optimal plan to fund the acquisition.

Mok reiterated that investors should take a medium to long-term view of this deal as it will bring about tremendous benefits to to this week’s edition of top stock market highlights where we bring you the latest news and corporate events.Bank home loan ratesThe trio of local banks, namely DBS Group(SGX: D05), United Overseas Bank Ltd(SGX: U11), or UOB, and OCBC Ltd(SGX: O39), have once again raised the rates on their mortgage loan offerings. The latest increase is in line withrising interest ratesas the US Federal Reserve hikes its benchmark policy rate to deal withsurging inflation.Singapore’s largest bank, DBS, is raising its fixed-rate housing loan interest rate to 3.5% from the earlier 2.75%.This new rate now applies to all four of the lender’s packages with tenors of between two to five years.Meanwhile, UOB announced that its two-year and three-year fixed-rate home loans bear interest rates of 3.75% and 3.85%, respectively. Not to be outdone, OCBC has revised its two-year fixed rate to 3.5%, up from 2.98% just a fortnight ago.The bank is also re-launching its one-year fixed rate package at 3.35%.With higher rates across the board, homeowners should be prepared to fork out more in interest payments when they refinance their housing loans.Singapore retail salesRetail sales continued to rise in Singapore in August, continuing the trend seen in July.Sales increased 13% year on year in August, slightly lower than the 13.9% year on year chalked up in the previous month. The latest increase did fall below the 15.4% that analysts had expected. The estimated total retail sales value for August came in at S$3.8 billion, of which online sales took up a 12.5% share.Despite the slightly weaker numbers, August’s retail sales still represented a fifth consecutive month of double-digit year on year growth. At the same time, elevated core inflation could dampen consumer demand in the months to come.Along with higher interest rates, more households may tighten their belts and cut back on spending to service higher mortgage payments.SATS Ltd (SGX: S58)SATS has seen its share price lose a fifth of its value since it announced theacquisition of Worldwide Flight Servicesfor almost S$1.64 billion.Investors were concerned that the ground handler will finance the deal with a potential rights issue to raise the required S$1.7 billion to finance the purchase.CEO Kerry Mok has come out to assure investors that the group is looking out for their interests and that a rights issue is one of four funding sources for the mega-deal.He also acknowledged that SATS will have to scale down the size of the rights issue as in his own words: “the market does not like rights issues”.In its original announcement for the acquisition, SATS had presented a funding plan that will involve the issuance of 609 million new shares at S$2.79 apiece. The rights issue price was a steep discount of 28% to the food caterer’s then-closing price of S$3.87.Other funding sources put forward include an acquisition bridge facility of €1.2 billion (around S$1.7 billion), internal cash resources, and new strategic investors. The group may also tap into a mixture of the four sources to come up with an optimal plan to fund the acquisition.Mok reiterated that investors should take a medium to long-term view of this deal as it will bring about tremendous benefits to SATS.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"S58.SI":0.9,"STI.SI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1456,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9915454862,"gmtCreate":1665102101956,"gmtModify":1676537556930,"author":{"id":"3578998994389578","authorId":"3578998994389578","name":"ShandyTan","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3578998994389578","idStr":"3578998994389578"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a However, the decline of growth and technology stocks over the past year has hit her funds just as hard. The ARK Innovation ETF has now retreated to near its pre-COVID levels, wiping away most of the gains seen over the past two years. Despite the negative price action of the fund, there are stocks within it that have strong shots at outperforming the overall market moving forward. Here are three of those stocks to consider for your growth portfolio.1. A metaverse platformRoblox(RBLX7.05%)is a digital platform where users (typically 18 and under) can participate in games and experiences. It's an early example of the metaverse, where the online and physical worlds interact. The Roblox platform currently has 49.5 million daily active users. The company's growth picked up during the height of the pandemic when people were at home more often and had more time to spend gaming. The company's revenue growth peaked at 140% year over year in the first quarter of 2021, and it has slowed in every quarter since then.Revenue was still up 83% in the fourth quarter. However, bookings, which are sales on the platform that haven't yet been recognized as revenue (and which serve as a signal for how revenue growth is trending), grew just 20% year over year. This implies Roblox's revenue growth is quickly slowing. The stock price has fallen to reflect this development with shares down roughly 50% since the beginning of the year. COVID-19 likely \"pulled forward\" growth from future quarters, but the long-term story of Roblox looks bright. The stock's decline could be an opportunity for patient investors who believe that growth will rebound over time.2. A SaaS stock bargainTwilio(TWLO6.24%)is a software platform that lets companies build custom applications to engage their customers. Have you ever visited a website and seen a little chat box pop up in the corner of the page? Twilio probably powers that feature. The business model is software as a service (SaaS), generating recurring revenue like a high-tech \"utility\" for investors. The company has expanded at a steady rate -- revenue growth has averaged 59% annually since 2016. The top line was up 61% in 2021 to $2.8 billion, showing the business has maintained its trajectory despite having to grow from a larger base each year.Twilio's customers tend to increase their spending with the company over time, and the business boasts an impressive net revenue retention rate (NRR) of 130%. Existing customers are also helping to drive Twilio's growth. The stock, however, has been swept up in the broad-market tech and growth correction. Its price-to-sales ratio has fallen to just under 10, close to its lowest level since going public in 2016. If the company can keep up its track record of growing revenue between 40% and 60% per year, the stock's compressed valuation should set investors up for great long-term returns.3. The king of audio contentSpotify Technologies(SPOT4.36%)is one of the leading audio platforms with roughly 406 million monthly active users (MAU) worldwide. Users can listen to millions of songs from virtually any artist as well as podcasts. Some famous figures, such as Joe Rogan, have exclusive deals with Spotify. The company generates revenue from premium subscriptions and running ads to non-premium members. Spotify's 2021 revenue grew 23% year over year to 9.6 billion euros, an uptick after growing 16% in 2020.The stock has succumbed to the market's sell-off despite this growth -- shares are down roughly 50% over the past year. The stock's P/S ratio has rebounded slightly to 2.5 after hitting an all-time low earlier this month. However, the company isn't profitable yet with a net loss of 34 million euros in 2021.Spotify isfree-cash-flowpositive, though, generating 104 million euros in the fourth quarter, and it has roughly 3.6 billion euros in cash and short-term investments.
