billion.\nInvestment bank China Renaissance led the round with participation from other high-profile investors including New York-based Tiger Global Management. Existing investors, which includes Coinbase's venture arm, were involved.\nThe latest funding round continues a flurry of funding activity in the cryptocurrency industry.\nIn the second quarter of 2021, venture capital investment into cryptocurrency and blockchain start-ups totaled $14 billion, according to data from PitchBook provided to CNBC. That compares to just $600 million in the same period last year.\nInterest in cryptocurrencies, particularly in bitcoin, rose this year asinstitutional investorsand large corporations jumped in. Payments processorSquareand electric vehicle makerTeslaare among the companies that havepurchased bitcoin.\nBut after touching a record high of $64,829.14 in April, bitcoin has plunged by nearly half.\nBusiness model\nAmber Group has typically sold products to institutional investors and wealthy individuals including algorithmic trading and lending products.\nRather than being a cryptocurrency exchange that allows users to trade individual digital coins, Amber Group CEO Michael Wu said the company is bringing a \"private banking experience to every day customer.\"\nWu says the company offers investors a number of different cryptocurrency products to invest in.\nAmber Group said it is on track to book revenue of $500 million by the end of this year and has been profitable \"since inception.\"\nAccording to Wu, between 70% and 80% of the company's revenue comes from so-called net interest margin — a measure of lending profitability. Amber Group takes on customers' deposits and offers them an interest rate. However, these names are typically riskier and more volatile than the average stock.\nAdam Parker, former Morgan Stanley chief U.S. equity strategist and founder of Trivariate Research, said the time is right to buy growth shares, but investors should be cautious of a few.\n“We think that portfolio managers should be buying growth stocks again, focusing on positive free cash flow and margin expansion, not earnings-based valuation,” Parker said in a note released Wednesday.\nTrivariate Research used a number of criteria to identify risky stocks, including low or negative correlation to inflation, high correlation to the economic reopening and high levels of company insiders selling their shares. While it may be tempting, it is too soon to add Federal Reserve policymakers to that list.</p>\n<p>Much will be made next week out of some potentially \"hawkish\" sounds from the U.S. central bank's policy meeting, economists said, while they stressed that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and the majority of the voting members of the interest rate setting committee remain \"doves\" and fundamentally will be sticking to their \"patient\" stance on monetary policy.</p>\n<p>\"They are going to be a little bit less dovish than last time,\" said Jim O'Sullivan, chief U.S. macro strategist for TD Securities.</p>\n<p>U.S. inflation has been sizzling in recent months.</p>\n<p>But the recent decline in long-term Treasury yields allows the Fed to lean into the hawkish message, O'Sullivan said.</p>\n<p>While inflation has been surprisingly hot, the Fed \"is willing to wait\" until the fall to see how the labor market responds to the inflation spike, said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. Wage pressures play a key role in determining the inflation outlook.</p>\n<p>\"We don't know how many people will come back into the labor market, how participation will rise, and will it be enough to dampen inflationary pressures,\" Shepherdson said.</p>\n<p>\"In the olden days, the Fed would have raised interest rates first and worried about what was going to happen afterwards. Since December, Powell has managed to hold off such talk.</p>\n<p>But this is only the most preliminary of steps.</p>\n<p>Instead \"officials will talk in general straw-poll terms on what principles ought to apply,\" said Lou Crandall, chief economist at Wrightson ICAP.</p>\n<p>It won't be the Fed having a structured debate on a set of options game-planned by the staff. That might happen in July, but not now.</p>\n<p>To downplay the significance, the Fed won't say anything about the \"talks about tapering\" in its formal statement, next Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan said.</p>\n<p>Secondly, the Fed's dot-plot, or interest rate forecast chart, may show a shift forward for the first rate hike to come during 2023. At the moment, the Fed shows no rate hikes until 2024 at the earliest.</p>\n<p>At its March meeting, seven out of 18 Fed officials saw a hike before the end of 2023, and it could be nine or ten officials at the June meeting next week.</p>\n<p>Thirdly, the Fed will have to raise its forecast for inflation for this year. In March, the Fed penciled in a 2.2% core rate for the personal consumption expenditure index. While that may rise, the Fed won't move the core rate for 2022 much higher, a signal that it still believes the price gains seen in the last few months reflects \"largely transitory\" factors.</p>\n<p>During press conferences, Powell has said the economy is \"a long way\" from the Fed's goals and it would take \"some time\" for substantial further progress to be achieved.</p>\n<p>\"I wouldn't pound the table and say exactly what Powell is going to say but it is time to start getting away from that language,\" O'Sullivan of TD Securities said.</p>\n<p>At the same time, the Fed has got to say that while the economy has made progress, they still need to see a lot more,\" he added.</p>\n<p>When the Fed added the \"substantial further progress\" guideline, the economy was 9.8 million jobs short of its level in February 2020. Amber Group takes on customers' deposits and offers them an interest rate. While it may be tempting, it is too soon to add Federal Reserve policymakers to that list.</p>\n<p>Much will be made next week out of some potentially \"hawkish\" sounds from the U.S. central bank's policy meeting, economists said, while they stressed that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and the majority of the voting members of the interest rate setting committee remain \"doves\" and fundamentally will be sticking to their \"patient\" stance on monetary policy.</p>\n<p>\"They are going to be a little bit less dovish than last time,\" said Jim O'Sullivan, chief U.S. macro strategist for TD Securities.</p>\n<p>U.S. inflation has been sizzling in recent months.</p>\n<p>But the recent decline in long-term Treasury yields allows the Fed to lean into the hawkish message, O'Sullivan said.</p>\n<p>While inflation has been surprisingly hot, the Fed \"is willing to wait\" until the fall to see how the labor market responds to the inflation spike, said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. Wage pressures play a key role in determining the inflation outlook.</p>\n<p>\"We don't know how many people will come back into the labor market, how participation will rise, and will it be enough to dampen inflationary pressures,\" Shepherdson said.</p>\n<p>\"In the olden days, the Fed would have raised interest rates first and worried about what was going to happen afterwards. But this is a different Fed with a different strategy and a different approach,\" he said.</p>\n<p>The Fed is buying $80 billion of Treasurys and $40 billion of mortgage backed securities each month, along with keeping its benchmark interest rate close to zero, to support the economy.</p>\n<p>The central bank put itself in a bit of a box in December by guiding markets that it wouldn't slow down the pace of purchases until there had been \"substantial further progress\" in its goals of full employment and stable inflation.</p>\n<p><b>What will be the hawkish sounds?</b></p>\n<p>First, the Fed will give in to the reality that talking about tapering the size of its asset purchases makes sense. This is an important shift. Since December, Powell has managed to hold off such talk.</p>\n<p>But this is only the most preliminary of steps.</p>\n<p>Instead \"officials will talk in general straw-poll terms on what principles ought to apply,\" said Lou Crandall, chief economist at Wrightson ICAP.</p>\n<p>It won't be the Fed having a structured debate on a set of options game-planned by the staff. That might happen in July, but not now.</p>\n<p>To downplay the significance, the Fed won't say anything about the \"talks about tapering\" in its formal statement, next Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan said.</p>\n<p>Secondly, the Fed's dot-plot, or interest rate forecast chart, may show a shift forward for the first rate hike to come during 2023. At the moment, the Fed shows no rate hikes until 2024 at the earliest.</p>\n<p>At its March meeting, seven out of 18 Fed officials saw a hike before the end of 2023, and it could be nine or ten officials at the June meeting next week.</p>\n<p>Thirdly, the Fed will have to raise its forecast for inflation for this year. In March, the Fed penciled in a 2.2% core rate for the personal consumption expenditure index. While that may rise, the Fed won't move the core rate for 2022 much higher, a signal that it still believes the price gains seen in the last few months reflects \"largely transitory\" factors.</p>\n<p>During press conferences, Powell has said the economy is \"a long way\" from the Fed's goals and it would take \"some time\" for substantial further progress to be achieved.</p>\n<p>\"I wouldn't pound the table and say exactly what Powell is going to say but it is time to start getting away from that language,\" O'Sullivan of TD Securities said.</p>\n<p>At the same time, the Fed has got to say that while the economy has made progress, they still need to see a lot more,\" he added.</p>\n<p>When the Fed added the \"substantial further progress\" guideline, the economy was 9.8 million jobs short of its level in February 2020. Wage pressures play a key role in determining the inflation outlook.</p>\n<p>\"We don't know how many people will come back into the labor market, how participation will rise, and will it be enough to dampen inflationary pressures,\" Shepherdson said.</p>\n<p>\"In the olden days, the Fed would have raised interest rates first and worried about what was going to happen afterwards. But this is a different Fed with a different strategy and a different approach,\" he said.</p>\n<p>The Fed is buying $80 billion of Treasurys and $40 billion of mortgage backed securities each month, along with keeping its benchmark interest rate close to zero, to support the economy.</p>\n<p>The central bank put itself in a bit of a box in December by guiding markets that it wouldn't slow down the pace of purchases until there had been \"substantial further progress\" in its goals of full employment and stable inflation.</p>\n<p><b>What will be the hawkish sounds?</b></p>\n<p>First, the Fed will give in to the reality that talking about tapering the size of its asset purchases makes sense. This is an important shift. Since December, Powell has managed to hold off such talk.</p>\n<p>But this is only the most preliminary of steps.</p>\n<p>Instead \"officials will talk in general straw-poll terms on what principles ought to apply,\" said Lou Crandall, chief economist at Wrightson ICAP.</p>\n<p>It won't be the Fed having a structured debate on a set of options game-planned by the staff. That might happen in July, but not now.</p>\n<p>To downplay the significance, the Fed won't say anything about the \"talks about tapering\" in its formal statement, next Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan said.</p>\n<p>Secondly, the Fed's dot-plot, or interest rate forecast chart, may show a shift forward for the first rate hike to come during 2023. At the moment, the Fed shows no rate hikes until 2024 at the earliest.</p>\n<p>At its March meeting, seven out of 18 Fed officials saw a hike before the end of 2023, and it could be nine or ten officials at the June meeting next week.</p>\n<p>Thirdly, the Fed will have to raise its forecast for inflation for this year. In March, the Fed penciled in a 2.2% core rate for the personal consumption expenditure index. While that may rise, the Fed won't move the core rate for 2022 much higher, a signal that it still believes the price gains seen in the last few months reflects \"largely transitory\" factors.</p>\n<p>During press conferences, Powell has said the economy is \"a long way\" from the Fed's goals and it would take \"some time\" for substantial further progress to be achieved.</p>\n<p>\"I wouldn't pound the table and say exactly what Powell is going to say but it is time to start getting away from that language,\" O'Sullivan of TD Securities said.</p>\n<p>At the same time, the Fed has got to say that while the economy has made progress, they still need to see a lot more,\" he added.</p>\n<p>When the Fed added the \"substantial further progress\" guideline, the economy was 9.8 million jobs short of its level in February 2020. Meanwhile, early reactions to the updated Model S and Model X interior are also encouraging. The interior refresh is the most meaningful update to the more expensive vehicles to date, although some aspects such as having the cars predict which gear the driver wants to be in are controversial.</p>\n<p>Wedbush was particularly impressed with the results, suggesting that Tesla could be a long-term beneficiary of what Ives dubs a \"Green Tidal Wave\" thesis. There are high expectations that the Biden administration will enact policies that are supportive of EVs and the broader fight against climate change, including the possibility of reinstating the EV federal tax credit for Tesla and <b>General Motors</b>.</p>\n<p>\"In our opinion the 1Q delivery numbers released on Friday was a paradigm changer and shows that the pent-up demand globally for Tesla's Model 3/Y is hitting its next stage of growth as part of a global green tidal wave under way,\" the analyst wrote in a research note to investors. \"We now believe Tesla could exceed 850k deliveries for the year with 900k a stretch goal, despite the chip shortage and various supply chain issues lingering across the auto sector.\"</p>\n<p>Topping 850,000 in 2021 deliveries would represent significant growth from the roughly 500,000 cars that Tesla delivered in 2020.
