Yes, the world is shifting toward cleaner alternatives. But oil and natural gas are not expected to go away anytime soon.

That means investors can keep collecting dividend checks from this vital part of the global energy landscape. Two attractive, though very different, options are ExxonMobil and Devon Energy .

Big and boring

When it comes to the energy sector, you won't find many companies larger than Exxon and its huge $440 billion market value. Its business spans the entire energy landscape, from drilling for oil and natural gas all the way to refining it. That provides an inherent balance within the highly cyclical industry as downstream operations (refining) tend to benefit from the low oil prices that hurt the upstream (drilling) business. But there's more to the story here.

Exxon has long focused on supporting its business with a rock-solid balance sheet. This allows management to take on debt during the inevitable industry downturns so it can continue to invest in the business and support the dividend. To highlight this, the company's debt-to-equity ratio was around 0.2 in 2019, a reasonable level for any company.

When energy prices plunged in 2020, thanks to the economic closures used to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the debt-to-equity ratio roughly doubled. As energy markets recovered in 2022 the company paid down debt, bringing the debt-to-equity ratio back into the 0.2 range. The dividend survived what can only be described as a very difficult time for the world, let alone oil companies.

XOM Debt to Equity Ratio data by YCharts

This is basically the playbook that's allowed Exxon to increase its dividend annually for four decades and counting. Moreover, given its size and scale, when the time is right it will likely move more aggressively toward clean energy. Until that point, however, it will happily be serving the world's still huge demand for oil and natural gas and shareholders will keep collecting the checks it pays along the way.

Another approach

Exxon has specifically built its business to provide regular dividend checks. But there's another approach that some investors might find interesting -- and that's Devon Energy's variable dividend. The company, which is focused on onshore U.S. drilling, pays investors a modest regular dividend that is, in good periods, augmented by a dividend tied to the company's financial performance. So the dividend has a floor under it, but will go up and down along with energy prices.

Why might an investor want this? Basically, the dividends you collect will rise at the same time that the price of a vital energy commodity is rising. This can help to offset the hit from increasing gasoline prices and heating oil prices, among other things. You will have to be willing to accept that the dividend will be reduced at times, but if that's something you can wrap your head around, Devon Energy's variable dividend policy could actually be a powerful budgeting tool.

XOM Dividend data by YCharts

The quarterly dividend started 2020 at $0.11 per share, rose to a peak of $1.55 per share in the third quarter of 2022, and, as of the first quarter of 2023, is at $0.89 per share. That's a wild ride over a very short period of time, which highlights that this is not a dividend stock for everyone. However, it is important to remember that inflation spiked during this period and that the fast-rising dividend payment would have offered a notable offset.

The variable policy is also worth considering from a different perspective. Yes, the world is shifting toward cleaner alternatives. But oil and natural gas are not expected to go away anytime soon. That means investors can keep collecting dividend checks from this vital part of the global energy landscape. Two attractive, though very different, options are ExxonMobil and Devon Energy .Big and boringWhen it comes to the energy sector, you won't find many companies larger than Exxon and its huge $440 billion market value. Its business spans the entire energy landscape, from drilling for oil and natural gas all the way to refining it. That provides an inherent balance within the highly cyclical industry as downstream operations (refining) tend to benefit from the low oil prices that hurt the upstream (drilling) business. But there's more to the story here.Exxon has long focused on supporting its business with a rock-solid balance sheet. The dividend survived what can only be described as a very difficult time for the world, let alone oil companies.XOM Debt to Equity Ratio data by YChartsThis is basically the playbook that's allowed Exxon to increase its dividend annually for four decades and counting. Moreover, given its size and scale, when the time is right it will likely move more aggressively toward clean energy. Until that point, however, it will happily be serving the world's still huge demand for oil and natural gas and shareholders will keep collecting the checks it pays along the way.Another approachExxon has specifically built its business to provide regular dividend checks. You will have to be willing to accept that the dividend will be reduced at times, but if that's something you can wrap your head around, Devon Energy's variable dividend policy could actually be a powerful budgeting tool.XOM Dividend data by YChartsThe quarterly dividend started 2020 at $0.11 per share, rose to a peak of $1.55 per share in the third quarter of 2022, and, as of the first quarter of 2023, is at $0.89 per share. That's a wild ride over a very short period of time, which highlights that this is not a dividend stock for everyone. However, it is important to remember that inflation spiked during this period and that the fast-rising dividend payment would have offered a notable offset. The variable policy is also worth considering from a different perspective. While it will go up and down over time, that should also make the payment more resilient as it will be lower when the energy sector is in the dumps. While that's not exactly a win for dividend investors, per se, it does suggest that you can count on the dividend being there over the long term. Two ways to playFor investors who need dividend consistency, Exxon is the clear winner of this pair. And given its size and scale, there's no reason to believe that the company will fail to pivot toward cleaner alternatives at some point when it makes financial sense to do so.Devon Energy is more of a direct play on energy and energy prices, but for investors who want to hedge their exposure to real-world energy costs (gasoline and heating oil, for example), its variable dividend policy could be a great fit.Exxon's dividend yield is 3.3% today while Devon's chimes in at 10%, though that needs to be taken with a grain of variable dividend salt.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":52,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9946515330,"gmtCreate":1680999642021,"gmtModify":1680999645289,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Alrighty","listText":"Alrighty","text":"Alrighty","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":28,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9946515330","repostId":"1108890125","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1108890125","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1680933081,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1108890125?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2023-04-08 13:51","market":"nz","language":"en","title":"Reminder: Holiday Trading Hours during Easter","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1108890125","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Easter is around the corner.Stock Markets in the Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia wil","content":"

Easter is around the corner.

Stock Markets in the Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia will be closed on April 10, 2023.

Please take note of the trading arrangements during the holiday period and make the necessary preparations in advance.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That's understandable, with several of them del","content":"
Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.
\n
However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.
\n
AMC Entertainment
\n
AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.
\n
The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.
\n
But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.
\n
However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Clover Health Investments
\n
Only a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.
\n
Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.
\n
Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.
\n
Sundial Growers
\n
At one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.
\n
Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.
\n
There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.\nHowever, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.\nAMC Entertainment\nAMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.\nThe consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.\nBut isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.\nHowever, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.\nClover Health Investments\nOnly a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.\nSince the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.\nClover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.\nStill, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.\nSundial Growers\nAt one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.\nAnalysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.\nThere certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.\nSundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.\nHowever, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. The company can't afford any additional dilution without having to resort to desperate measures to keep its listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581627618988110","authorId":"3581627618988110","name":"Lhokie","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e3d8a0704ae0a1eec1efa1f9d3c28e13","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1},"content":"Money Money Money, It’s so funny funny","text":"Money Money Money, It’s so funny funny","html":"Money Money Money, It’s so funny funny"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":811303378,"gmtCreate":1630287260594,"gmtModify":1676530257202,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks","listText":"Comment and like thanks","text":"Comment and like thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":8,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/811303378","repostId":"2163776380","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":113058168,"gmtCreate":1622588048954,"gmtModify":1704186670819,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks!","listText":"Comment and like thanks!","text":"Comment and like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":9,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/113058168","repostId":"2140626460","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2140626460","pubTimestamp":1622561601,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2140626460?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-01 23:33","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Stocks to Avoid This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2140626460","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These investments seem pretty vulnerable right now.","content":"
In my three stocks to avoid article last week, I predicted that Zuora (NYSE:ZUO), Riot Blockchain (NASDAQ:RIOT), and Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund (OTC:GDLC) would have a rough few days.

Zuora shares climbed 3% for the week. AMC Entertainment

It was a big weekend at the movies, and that may give the rally in AMC shares a lift early in the holiday-abridged trading week. It's not likely to last.

Before you figure this is more of the same from a multiplex permabear, keep in mind that I have had plenty of kind things to say about AMC in recent months. I argued that investors shouldn't bury AMC when it was trading for three bucks and change in late January, just two days before it became a meme stock. I went on to make the seemingly unfashionable move of arguing a bullish case for owning AMC and even making a case for the country's leading exhibitor to be a buyout candidate in the months to follow.

Finally, seven weeks ago I singled out AMC as a stock that can double again. It did go on to double, and it's on the verge of tripling from that starting line.

However, with the stock a multi-bagger -- and its share count nearly quadrupling over the past year -- we can no longer assess AMC as a turnaround story. I don't think AMC is going under like so many bears out there, but it's hard for someone who has seen the good in the multiplex operator in the past to continue arguing that it's a fair value here. When the frenzy is done and the bulls and bears move on to fresh playthings this will be less than a $23 billion business.

2. Riot Blockchain

Riot Blockchain may have been bailed out by a bullish analyst initiation last week, but it can't escape gravity forever. I see it giving back a good chunk of the gains it scored last week.

3. Oatly

Oat milk is booming in popularity, making it an opportune time for Oatly to go public. The Oatly IPO was a success, but perhaps it's been too successful. Oatly commands a market cap of $14 billion. Who would pay 30 times trailing sales for a distributor of oat milk-based products?

It's certainly true that Oatly is growing quickly. Revenue more than doubled last year. However, Oatly had to pay up for that growth. Gross margin contracted last year, and its net loss nearly doubled. There's market share for the taking, but ultimately this is just a commodity.

Oalty may be spending a lot of money on savvy marketing and scoring distribution deals, but is there really a difference between Oatly's product and the competition? No one holds a patent to plant-based milk products. It's just a matter of time before the market either demands profits -- and growth will slow dramatically -- or realizes that you don't pay 30 times deficit-saddled revenue for a commodity distributor.

If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in AMC Entertainment, Riot Blockchain, and Oatly this week.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Avoid This Week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Avoid This Week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-01 23:33 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
In my three stocks to avoid article last week, I predicted that Zuora (NYSE:ZUO), Riot Blockchain (NASDAQ:RIOT), and Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund (OTC:GDLC) would have a rough few days.Zuora ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMC":"AMC院线","RIOT":"Riot Platforms","ZUO":"祖睿","GDLC":"Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund LLC","OTLY":"Oatly Group AB"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/06/01/3-stocks-to-avoid-this-week/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2140626460","content_text":"In my three stocks to avoid article last week, I predicted that Zuora (NYSE:ZUO), Riot Blockchain (NASDAQ:RIOT), and Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund (OTC:GDLC) would have a rough few days.Zuora shares climbed 3% for the week. Goldman also noted that Schwab has outperformedInteractive Brokersover the past quarter as the meme stock retail trading boom lost some steam.\nGoldman kept its price target at $76 per share, which is less than 10% above where the stock closed on Wednesday.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":141,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":101958918,"gmtCreate":1619839050734,"gmtModify":1704335611296,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks!","listText":"Comment and like thanks!","text":"Comment and like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":9,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/101958918","repostId":"1142063705","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":218,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3559879461000945","authorId":"3559879461000945","name":"ZYMing","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08d00471a2b4a297a190c72e7dea2a2e","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"please reply","text":"please reply","html":"please reply"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":143857636,"gmtCreate":1625789153925,"gmtModify":1703748476401,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment N like thanks!","listText":"Comment N like thanks!","text":"Comment N like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/143857636","repostId":"1195657546","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1195657546","pubTimestamp":1625785913,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1195657546?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-09 07:11","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Stocks making the biggest moves after hours: Levi Strauss, General Motors, Accolade and more","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195657546","media":"CNBC","summary":"Check out the companies making headlines after the bell Thursday:\nLevi Strauss— Shares of Levi Strau","content":"
\n
Check out the companies making headlines after the bell Thursday:\nLevi Strauss— Shares of Levi Strauss added 3.2% after the retailer crushed Wall Street expectations in itsfiscal second-quarter ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The president addresses a joint session of Congress Wednesday evening. It’s a huge week for earnings with about a third of the S&P 500 reporting, including Big Tech names, such as Apple,Microsoft,Alphabet and Amazon. As many have already done, firms like Boeing, Ford,Caterpillar and McDonald’s, are likely to detail cost pressures they are facing from rising materials and transportation costs and supply chain disruptions. At the same time, the Fed is expected to defend its policy of letting inflation run hot, while assuring markets it sees the pick-up in prices as only temporary. The central bank meets on Tuesday and Wednesday. The central bank takes the main stage“I think the Fed would like not to be a feature next week, but the Fed will be forced from the background because of concerns about inflation,” said Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton. The central bank is not expected to make any policy moves, but Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s press briefing following the meeting Wednesday will be closely watched. So far, the barrage of earnings news has been positive, with 86% of companies reporting earnings beats. Corporate profits are expected to be up about 33.9% for the first quarter, based on estimates and actual reports, according to Refinitiv. Revenues are about 9.9% higher. There is important inflation data Friday when the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge is reported. The personal consumption expenditure report is expected to show a 1.8% rise in core inflation, still below the Fed’s target of 2%. Other data releases include the first-quarter gross domestic product on Thursday, which is expected to have grown by 6.5%, according to Dow Jones.“I think the Fed has no urgency to shift monetary policy at this point,” said Ian Lyngen, head of U.S. rates strategy at BMO. “The Fed needs to acknowledge that the data is improving. We had a strong first quarter.”“The Fed needs to acknowledge that but at the same time they’re keeping extremely accommodative policy in place, so they’ll have to make a note to the fact that the easy policy is warranted,” he said.Lyngen said the Fed will likely point to continued concerns about the pandemic globally as a potential risk to the economic recovery.Powell is also expected to once more explain that the Fed will let inflation rise above its 2% target for a period of time before it raises rates so that the economy can have more time to heal. “It’s going to be a challenge for the Fed,” said Swonk. The base effects for the next several months will make inflation appear to have jumped sharply because of the comparison to a weak period last year. The consumer price index for April could be above 3%, compared to 2.6% last month, Swonk added.“The Fed is trying to let a lot more people get out onto the dance floor before it calls ‘last call,’” she said. “Really what Powell has been saying since day one is if we take care of people on the margins and bring them back into the labor force, the rest will take care of itself.”Stocks were slightly lower in the past week, and Treasury yields held at lower levels. The 10-year yield, which moves opposite price, was at 1.55% Friday. The S&P 500was down 0.1%, ending the week at 4,180, while Nasdaq Composite was down nearly 0.3% at 14,016. The Dow was off just shy of 0.5% at 34,043.Tax hike prospectsStocks were hit hard on Thursday when after a news report said that Biden is expected to propose a capital gains tax rate of 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million a year.Combined with the 3.8% net investment income tax, the new levy would more than double the long term capital gains rate of 20% or the richest Americans.Strategists said Biden is expected to propose raising the income tax rate for those earning more than $400,000.“I think a lot of people are starting to price in the risk there going to be a significant increase in both corporate and capital gains taxes,” said Lyngen. So far, companies have not provided much in the way of commentary on the proposed hike in corporate taxes to 28% from 21% but they have been talking about other costs.David Bianco, chief investment strategist for the Americas at DWS, said he expects larger companies will do better dealing with supply chain constraints than smaller ones. Big Tech is also likely to fare better during the semiconductor shortage than auto makers, which have already announced production shutdowns, he said.“Next week is tech week. I think we’re going to get down on our knees and just be in awe of their business models and their ability to grow at a behemoth scale,” Bianco said.He said he’s not in favor of Wall Street’s popular trade into cyclicals and out of growth. He still favors growth.“We’re overweight equities really because we’re concerned about rising interest rates,” Bianco said. “I’m not bullish in that I expect the market to rise that much from here.”“We stuck with growth and dug deeper into bond substitutes, utilities, staples, real estate,” he said, adding he is underweight industrials, energy and materials. “Energy is doomed. It’s being nationalized via regulation. I do like industrials, they are well-run companies, but I do think infrastructure spending expectations for classic infrastructure are too high.”He also said industrials are good businesses, but the stocks have become overvalued.Bianco said he likes big box stores, but smaller retailers are facing big challenges that were already impacting them prior to Covid. He also finds small biotech firms attractive.“I like healthcare stocks. Those valuations are reasonable. People have been paranoid about politicians beating on them since 1992. They manage through it and lately they’ve been delivering,” he said.Week ahead calendarMondayEarnings:Tesla,Canadian National Railway, Canon,Check Point Software,Otis Worldwide, Vale,Ameriprise,NXP Semiconductor,Albertsons, Royal Phillips8:30 a.m. Durable goodsTuesdayFOMC begins two day meetingEarnings:Microsoft,Alphabet,Visa,Amgen,Advanced Micro Devices,3M,General Electric,Eli Lilly, Hasbro,United Parcel Service,BP,Novartis,JetBlue,Pultegroup,Archer Daniels Midland,Waste Management,Starbucks,Texas Instrument,Chubb,Mondelez,FireEye,Corning,Raytheon9:00 a.m. S&P/Case-Shiller9:00 a.m. FHFA home prices10:00 a.m. Consumer confidence10:00 a.m. Housing vacanciesWednesdayEarnings:Apple, Boeing,Facebook,Qualcomm,Ford,MGM Resorts,Humana,Norfolk Southern,General Dynamics,Boston Scientific, eBay, Samsung Electronics, GlaxoSmithKline,Yum Brands, SiriusXM, Aflac,Cheesecake Factory,Community Health System,CIT Group,Entergy,CME Group,Hess,Ryder System8:30 a.m. Advance economic indicators2:00 p.m. Fed statement2:30 p.m. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell briefingThursdayEarnings:Amazon,Caterpillar,McDonald’s,Twitter,Bristol-Myers Squibb,Comcast,Merck,Northrop Grumman, Airbus,Kraft Heinz,Intercontinental Exchange,Mastercard,Gilead Sciences,U.S. Steel, Cirrus Logic,Texas Roadhouse, Cabot Oil, PG&E,Royal Dutch Shell,Church & Dwight, Carlyle Group,Southern Co.8:30 a.m. Initial jobless claims8:30 a.m. Real GDP Q110:00 a.m. Pending home salesFridayEarnings:ExxonMobil,Chevron,Colgate-Palmolive,AstraZeneca,Clorox,Barclays, AbbVie, BNP Paribas,Weyerhaeuser,Illinois Tool Works, CBOE Global Markets, Lazard,Newell Brands,Aon,LyondellBasell,Pitney Bowes,Phillips 66,Charter Communications8:30 a.m. Personal income and spending8:30 a.m. Employment cost index Q19:45 a.m. Chicago PMI10:00 a.m. Consumer sentimentSaturdayEarnings:Berkshire Hathaway","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":77,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3575200115109066","authorId":"3575200115109066","name":"SiniS","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6c54fb65b275549d9e3c4b80c5117022","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"Done, pls help to like and reply this too. thx","text":"Done, pls help to like and reply this too. thx","html":"Done, pls help to like and reply this too. thx"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":804699068,"gmtCreate":1627952498554,"gmtModify":1703498408593,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks","listText":"Comment and like thanks","text":"Comment and like thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/804699068","repostId":"2155915751","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":191350080,"gmtCreate":1620858713840,"gmtModify":1704349315194,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks!","listText":"Comment and like thanks!","text":"Comment and like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/191350080","repostId":"1170539751","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1170539751","pubTimestamp":1620833723,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1170539751?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-05-12 23:35","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here Is The Heatmap From Today's \"Eye-Popping\" CPI Report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1170539751","media":"zerohedge","summary":"As BOfA economist Alexander Lin writes, the \"eye-popping\" April CPI report was a \"massive surprise\" ","content":"
As BOfA economist Alexander Lin writes, the \"eye-popping\" April CPI report was a \"massive surprise\" as core CPI strongly rose 0.9% (0.92% unrounded) sequentially, which was the largest gain since 1981 and blew away consensus forecasts of 0.3% (for a full range of shocked reactions from traders and strategistssee this).

However, in some potentially mitigating details, BofA reveals that near-term inflation pressures were driven bygoods shortages and the reopening \"and that was certainly the case this month as these two themes accounted for at least 70bp of the rise in core.\"

First on shortages, auto prices jumped 4.3% mom with particular strength in used cars, which posted a record increase of 10.0% mom. Between 1965 and 2020, Berkshire's stock has posted an annual average return of about 20%, while the Dow has an average annual return of roughly 7.75% between 1921 and 2019.

A big part of this is due to Buffett and Berkshire's more than $350 billion stock portfolio. While some stocks like Apple and Bank of America make up a huge percentage of the portfolio and are likely ones that Buffett and Berkshire consider to be safer, there are other smaller picks in the portfolio that Buffett and Berkshire may deem to be riskier but that also have much more potential upside. Here are three riskier Buffett stocks that can beat the Dow on a long-term basis.

1. Citigroup

As a shareholder, I was thrilled to see Buffett and Berkshire snag shares of Citigroup in the first quarter of this year. The bank has struggled for years to generate the same kind of returns as its large bank peers, leading many to believe it's a value trap. Citigroup has on numerous occasions traded below its tangible book value (TBV), or net worth, over the last decade. But this is the first time Berkshire has purchased the stock since 2001, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

In my view, it looks like this time may indeed be different with CEO Jane Fraser, who only took the reins of the bank about a year ago, planning major strategic changes including selling most of the bank's international consumer banking divisions, doubling down on areas of strength, and finally investing what is needed to fix regulatory issues.

The big risk here is that the transformation could still be a multi-year journey and investors are running out of patience, so there is very little margin for error and this is a stock that could continue to be a value trap. But trading at just 67% to its TBV, the stock has about 47% upside just to get back to TBV, which would still not even be considered a good valuation in today's banking industry.

Citigroup's investment banking unit, large U.S. deposit market share, and extremely global presence are certain attributes that would be difficult to replicate. The bank also has a dividend yield of roughly 3.8%, which will compensate investors nicely while they wait for the transformation plan to play out.

2. Ally Financial

The large digital bank and auto lender Ally Financial is another stock that Berkshire scooped up at the beginning of this year that has a lot of the attributes of a classic Buffett stock. Not only does Ally trade at a cheap valuation, but it also returns a good amount of capital to shareholders. Despite generating strong returns in 2021 and guiding for smaller but still impressive returns going forward, Ally only trades at about 116% to its TBV and 5.6 times forward earnings.

Ally faces a few big risks. There could be a recession sometime in the near future that makes consumers default on their loans at higher rates than management is currently anticipating. There are also concerns over what will happen to used-car prices, which have been elevated, although Ally's management team is anticipating prices to eventually come down. Higher interest rates could also raise Ally's deposit costs and cut into margins, although the bank has significantly increased its retail deposit base in recent years.

Still, if Ally can overcome some of these near-term headwinds and still generate good returns, the stock will likely get rerated. Ally also returns a lot of capital to shareholders and is planning to execute a $2 billion stock buyback plan this year alone.

3. Nu Holdings

Berkshire has clearly taken an interest in Latin America's growing financial sector, and with good reason given the massive potential. Last year, Berkshire invested in the Brazilian challenger bank Nu Holdings, which has made massive progress with its frictionless, low-fee banking experience. Nu has acquired close to 60 million customers with a low, industry-leading customer acquisition cost. Nu currently banks 33% of the adult Brazilian population and has provided millions of its customers with their first bank account or credit card. Nu is also growing in Mexico and Colombia.

The risk here is that the Latin American market can be difficult, given high levels of inflation and volatile economic conditions. Furthermore, Nu is not yet profitable and will likely face lots of competition. But the company is growing revenue significantly and after the huge sell-off of growth stocks this year, investors have the rare opportunity to buy Nu stock at a much cheaper valuation than when Buffett or Berkshire got in. Nu is a leading digital disruptor in one of the world's fastest-growing regions for banking.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Riskier Warren Buffett Stocks That Could Beat the Dow
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Riskier Warren Buffett Stocks That Could Beat the Dow\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-06-03 11:45 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Warren Buffett and his company Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A -0.73%)(BRK.B -0.63%) have a long track record of beating the broader market indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Between 1965 and 2020, Berkshire's stock has posted an annual average return of about 20%, while the Dow has an average annual return of roughly 7.75% between 1921 and 2019.A big part of this is due to Buffett and Berkshire's more than $350 billion stock portfolio. While some stocks like Apple and Bank of America make up a huge percentage of the portfolio and are likely ones that Buffett and Berkshire consider to be safer, there are other smaller picks in the portfolio that Buffett and Berkshire may deem to be riskier but that also have much more potential upside. Here are three riskier Buffett stocks that can beat the Dow on a long-term basis.1. CitigroupAs a shareholder, I was thrilled to see Buffett and Berkshire snag shares of Citigroup in the first quarter of this year. The bank has struggled for years to generate the same kind of returns as its large bank peers, leading many to believe it's a value trap. Right now, the Fed is probably in a position to show they are thinking about tapering, but they’re still a long way from actually doing it.”\nThe Fed is likely to announce in August or September a strategy for reducing its massive bond buying program, but will not start cutting monthly purchases until early next year, a Reuters poll of economists found.\nThe benchmark S&P 500, the blue-chip Dow Jones and the tech-focused Nasdaq have risen 13%, 12.1% and 9.2% respectively so far this year, largely driven by optimism about an economic reopening.\nHowever, the S&P 500 has been broadly stuck within a range, despite recording its 29th record-high finish of 2021 on Monday, versus 33 for all of last year.\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 94.42 points, or 0.27%, to 34,299.33, the S&P 500 lost 8.56 points, or 0.20%, to 4,246.59 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 101.29 points, or 0.71%, to 14,072.86.\nSeven of the 11 major S&P sectors slipped. Among them was communication services, which ended 0.5% lower, having hit a record intraday high earlier in the session.\nThe largest gainer was the energy index, which rose 2.1% on oil prices hitting multi-year highs on a positive demand outlook. Exxon Mobil Corp had its best day since Mar. 5, jumping 3.6%. [O/R]\nIn corporate news, Boeing Co gained 0.6% after the United States and the European Union agreed on a truce in their 17-year conflict over aircraft subsidies involving the planemaker and its rival Airbus.\nHaving slumped 19% on Monday, Lordstown Motors Corp shares rebounded 11.3% after comments from the electric truck manufacturer’s president on orders.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 9.98 billion shares, compared with the 10.58 billion average over the last 20 trading days.\nThe S&P 500 posted 36 new 52-week highs and 1 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 87 new highs and 21 new lows.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":85,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3572761324363640","authorId":"3572761324363640","name":"SamuelNg","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/758b132d63959927e156935f0c64d8e9","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"pls reply back thanks","text":"pls reply back thanks","html":"pls reply back thanks"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":140967104,"gmtCreate":1625624387108,"gmtModify":1703745147871,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks!","listText":"Comment and like thanks!","text":"Comment and like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/140967104","repostId":"1171645479","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":188,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":117971362,"gmtCreate":1623115205056,"gmtModify":1704196340329,"author":{"id":"3579776933147795","authorId":"3579776933147795","name":"moneymaker1","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/41f8d20b96172e32c5470b98d70479a4","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like thanks!","listText":"Comment and like thanks!","text":"Comment and like thanks!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/117971362","repostId":"2141342255","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2141342255","pubTimestamp":1623098661,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2141342255?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-08 04:44","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P closes nominally lower as investors wait for a catalyst","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2141342255","media":"REUTERS","summary":"NEW YORK (REUTERS) - The S&P 500 ended a languid session slightly in the red on Monday (June 7), wit","content":"
\n
NEW YORK (REUTERS) - The S&P 500 ended a languid session slightly in the red on Monday (June 7), with investors standing by on news of a global minimum corporate tax rate, lingering inflation fears, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"straits_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Still, the S&P and the Dow remained inside one percentage point of their record closing highs.\"Thematically, we're done with earnings, so you have this lull in between earnings when what drives the market is economic data points,\" said Joseph Sroka, chief investment officer at NovaPoint in Atlanta. \"There's not a lot of impetus for investors to take action today.\"\"There's been this flip-flop between whether inflation will be transitory or persistent, and the next card that gets flipped over for that is the CPI report on Thursday,\" Sroka added.Small-caps outperformed as the ongoing retail frenzy boosted stocks whose recent explosive trading volumes have been attributed to social media buzz.AMC Entertainment Holdings jumped 14.8%, extending the previous week's 85% gain.Other so-called \"meme stocks,\" including GameStop and US-listed shares of Blackberry advanced between 7% and 14%.\"You've seen a decades-long, technology-enabled democratisation of the market and there's certainly groups of individual investors that flock to these ideas,\" Sroka said. \"We're seeing speculative trading in an age of multiple outlets and social media amplifies the news.\"The Group of Seven (G-7) advanced economies agreed on Saturday to back a minimum global corporate tax rate of at least 15%, a move Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called a \"significant, unprecedented commitment\" to bring what she called a race to the bottom on global taxation.Lawmakers in Washington are doubling down on efforts to craft a bipartisan infrastructure spending package, with House Democrats expected to bring a bill to vote as early as Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 126.15 points, or 0.36%, to 34,630.24; the S&P 500 lost 3.37 points, or 0.08%, at 4,226.52; and the Nasdaq Composite added 67.23 points, or 0.49%, at 13,881.72.Of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, seven lost ground, with materials suffering the largest percentage drop.Real estate led the gainers.Shares of Biogen Inc surged 38.3% following news that the US Food and Drug Administration approved its Alzheimer's disease drug aducanumab.Data centre operator QTS Realty Trust jumped 21.2% on reports of a takeover deal by investment firm Blackstone Group worth $6.7 billion. Having decided not to bring a movie studio under the fold, Ives thinks Apple is keen to add more live sports to its roster of services. The company has already bought the rights for MLB Friday Night baseball package games for the next few years and along with Amazon, Ives says it is “widely viewed” in the industry the pair were in the final bidding for the NFL Sunday Ticket. This should be a multi-billion-dollar annual deal ($2.5 billion+) and a “landmark” for the company, with the package seen as the “crown jewel” for streaming live sports content. Should Apple win it, it will further strengthen its position in the streaming arms race,” one which has already been boosted by the Oscar win of CODA and success of other recent offerings (Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Severance). To this end, Ives reiterated an Outperform (i.e., Buy) rating backed by a $200 price target. The implication for investors? Upside of 32%.Turning now to the rest of the Street, where the average target clocks in at $186.45 and factors in 12-month gains of 28%.
