Here&#39;s a look at Berkshire&#39;s two ETFs and why they could be some of Warren Buffett&#39;s favorite investments even though they currently make up a tiny fraction of Berkshire&#39;s overall portfolio.</p><h2>Berkshire&#39;s two ETFs</h2><p>The two ETFs in Berkshire Hathaway&#39;s stock portfolio are the <b>SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust</b> and the <b>Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF</b>. And they are both very similar. Both are <b>S&amp;P 500</b> index funds, which means they are designed to deliver the same long-term performance as the S&amp;P 500 index.</p><p>The basic idea is that these funds pool investors&#39; assets to buy shares of all 500 companies in the S&amp;P 500 index, and in the same weightings as the index (more shares of larger companies). Both have low expense ratios, or investment fees, with the Vanguard fund charging just 0.03% of assets as an annualized fee, while the SPDR fund has a higher but still very low 0.09% expense ratio.</p><h2>Buffett is a big fan of index funds like these</h2><p>Buffett has referred to the S&amp;P 500 as a bet on large American business, and that has historically been a good bet. In fact, a $10,000 investment in the S&amp;P 500 would grow to more than $450,000 over 40 years at the index&#39;s historic rate of return.</p><p>Not only does Buffett believe the S&amp;P 500 is an extraordinary tool for long-term investors, but he&#39;s a big fan of investing in low-cost index funds for the majority of people. Obviously, we love researching and investing in individual stocks at The Motley Fool and Buffett does as well -- but the fact is, the majority of Americans don&#39;t have the time, knowledge, or desire to do it right. Buffett has advised investors &#34;if you like spending six to eight hours per week working on investments, do it. If you don&#39;t then dollar-cost average into index funds.&#34;</p><p>Buffett has said many times that index funds are the best way to invest for most people and claims that they&#39;ll outperform most other investors over time -- including hedge fund managers. In fact, in 2007, Buffett bet hedge fund manager Ted Seides that an S&amp;P 500 index fund would beat a basket of at least five hedge funds of Seides&#39; choosing over a 10-year period. The results weren&#39;t even close. These policy makers are eager to start the taper, in part because they and their colleagues have said they aren’t likely to consider raising interest rates from near zero until they are done tapering the asset purchases.</p>\n<p>Another camp thinks recent&nbsp;price pressures will subside&nbsp;and could leave the Fed in the same position that it faced for much of the past decade, in which global forces kept inflation below 2% even with historically low interest rates. They are worried that accelerating plans to wind down the asset purchases could raise questions among investors about the Fed’s commitment to achieving its economic goals.</p>\n<p>Because Mr. Powell has pledged&nbsp;to provide ample notice&nbsp;to financial markets before the Fed starts tapering&nbsp;to avoid catching investors by surprise, the central bank looks unlikely to start the process now or at its next meeting in September. In April, he said the Fed was “a long way from” its tapering goals, and he characterized the economy as “still a ways off” from them in June.</p>\n<p><b>Purchase pace</b></p>\n<p>Officials also must consider the pace of any reductions. Some officials have discussed concluding the purchases around October 2022 so they could lift rates soon thereafter if the recovery is stronger or inflation is higher than now anticipated.</p>\n<p>During a prior asset-purchase program that ended in 2014, the Fed shrank its purchases in modest, equal amounts over the course of 10 months. It then waited another 14 months before raising interest rates.</p>\n<p>Another tactical question centers on whether&nbsp;to reduce the pace of Treasurys and mortgage-backed securities equally. Some officials have raised concerns about rising home prices and are pressing to stop purchases of mortgage bonds sooner.</p>\n<p>But Mr. Powell and other officials have poured cold water on those concerns in recent weeks. They have said mortgage buying, by purchasing longer-dated assets, provides a way to more broadly stimulate the economy and isn’t focused squarely on housing markets.</p>\n<p>“If the housing market has you really worried, that’s an argument for just tapering everything sooner and faster,” said William English, a former senior Fed economist who is now a professor at the Yale School of Management.</p>\n<p><b>Inflation outlook</b></p>\n<p>For a third straight month in June,inflation ran hotter&nbsp;than many economists had expected. The Labor Department’s consumer-price index increased 5.4% from a year ago, the highest 12-month rate since August 2008.</p>\n<p>Mr. Powell said two weeks ago that&nbsp;many of the elevated price pressures&nbsp;can still be traced to goods and services affected by supply-chain bottlenecks and other pandemic-driven upheaval. She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.</p>\n<p>“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”</p>\n<p>While investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.</p>\n<p>And even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.</p>\n<p>What's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.</p>\n<p>“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.</p>\n<p><b>The Buffett Indicator</b></p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/44ada32ecadcc4581fed208f4f4e4d53\" tg-width=\"703\" tg-height=\"293\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Larry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock</p>\n<p>One metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.</p>\n<p>But the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.</p>\n<p>And those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.</p>\n<p>How to prepare for a crash<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1ad912a6b4611d9e39b46d2851c78c9e\" tg-width=\"703\" tg-height=\"293\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Freedomz / Shutterstock</p>\n<p>Orman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.</p>\n<p><b>1. Buy low</b></p>\n<p>Part of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.</p>\n<p>“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”</p>\n<p>She points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.</p>\n<p>Because you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.</p>\n<p><b>2. Invest on a schedule</b></p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e4102f8a6d5002090743b1cbded32ef9\" tg-width=\"703\" tg-height=\"293\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">katjen / Shutterstock</p>\n<p>While she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.</p>\n<p>She wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.</p>\n<p>In fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.</p>\n<p>“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”</p>\n<p>She suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.</p>\n<p>This kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.</p>\n<p>There are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.</p>\n<p><b>3. Diversify with fractional shares</b></p>\n<p>To help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.</p>\n<p>Orman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. It is, after all, a huge waste of our time because we would rather work on more thought-intensive, engaging work. With artificial intelligence-powered virtual bots, UiPath is turning our wishes into commands.</p><p>The company offers automation software that can emulate a human by understanding what is on a screen, extracting data, and making critical decisions. However, this software can do it much faster than humans, making 58% fewer mistakes. UiPath uses robotic process automation (RPA) in tandem with humans to make businesses more efficient. With UiPath, real workers are not fired or eliminated but rather freed to work on more critical tasks. UiPath has saved some of its customers millions of hours and dollars, which is why over 9,600 customers use UiPath and are currently spending 44% more than they did <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> year ago.</p><p>The stock has not fallen because of bad operational performance. The company has brought in $602.5 million in revenue so far this year, 50% higher than the year-ago period. Shares have taken a downturn because of the major uptick in the company&#39;s net loss. In the third quarter, the company lost almost $123 million -- more than the total net loss for the first nine months of 2020. This has been because UiPath has rapidly ramped up its spending on advertising, along with research and development.</p><p>This is not without good reason, however. The company projects that its addressable market will nearly double to $30 billion by 2024. UiPath is already the industry leader in RPA, according to <b>Gartner</b>&#39;s Magic Quadrant, but the company is ramping up spending to make sure its competitors like Automation Anywhere do not overtake them. With the RPA market growing so rapidly over the next few years, UiPath is spending now -- rather successfully -- to obtain brand recognition as the industry begins to explode.</p><p>Here&#39;s the bottom line: UiPath is the leader in a futuristic industry that is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. With so much investment going toward capturing this growth, along with a dominant product that has caught the eyes of NASA and <b>Alphabet</b>, I think that today&#39;s share prices are a gift to long-term investors.</p><h2>2. Twilio: Falling victim to the tech sell-off</h2><p>With over 250,000 businesses using Twilio, most of us have used its technology without even recognizing it. Anyone who has ever communicated with a food delivery driver or <b>Lyft</b> driver has used Twilio&#39;s services unknowingly. The company is helping other enterprises communicate within apps, allowing consumers and businesses to connect easier. These services seem to have grown even more important for Twilio&#39;s users as they are now spending 31% more today than they did one year ago with the company.</p><p>Twilio posted year-over-year revenue growth of 65% in Q3, but some of that came from its acquisitions. Although the company has consistently been able to post impressive organic growth -- something most growth-by-acquisition companies lack. In Q3, the company&#39;s revenue improved 38% year over year organically, and it has been able to organically boost its top line by 34% or more year over year for the past nine quarters.</p><p>Shares have largely been sent downward in 2021, and Twilio&#39;s major net losses haven&#39;t been helping. The company lost $224 million in Q3, with almost $170 million of that being stock-based compensation. While this might be worrisome today, it is overshadowed by the impressive top-line growth that the company is seeing, both organically and inorganically, in this lucrative market. At 17 times sales, this stock is trading at levels not seen since mid-2020, leaving an opportunistic window for investors.</p><p>The use of in-app communication will only become more prevalent as the world continues to adopt these habits, and Twilio has been and will likely continue benefiting from it. The report is due for release Tuesday morning.</p>\n<p>The headline index is likely to rise to 119.0 for June from 117.2 in May, according to Bloomberg consensus data. This would mark the highest level since February 2020's 132.6, which itself had been a near two-decade high.</p>\n<p>Like investors, consumers have begun to warm to the notion that inflationary pressures seen during the early stages of the economic recovery may prove transitory.
