That could help drive average selling prices for the data-center segment even if sequential unit growth is below consensus.

Nvidia announced that it will release its fourth-quarter, fiscal 2022 earnings report after the market closes on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Analysts expect Nvidia to post revenue of $6.02 billion, down 26.9% from the same period of the last year. Adjusted net profit is expected at $2 billion, and adjusted EPS of $0.81 for the quarter, according to Bloomberg consensus.

Prior Period Results and Q4 Outlook

NVIDIA reported revenue for the third quarter ended October 30, 2022, of $5.93 billion, down 17% from Q3, fiscal 2021. Data-center revenue jumped 31%, also beating projections, compared with a 51% drop for the company’s gaming business.

Data centers are a bright spot in a computing industry still mired in a slump. Makers of chips for laptops and desktops suffered a steep decline in orders in the year as recession-wary customers put off big-ticket electronics purchases.

The company expects fourth-quarter revenue to be about $6 billion, plus or minus 2%. That compares with an estimate of $6.02 billion. Third-quarter profit came in at 58 cents a share, excluding some items, short of the 70-cent projection.

What to Watch in Q4, Fiscal 2022 Results

Nvidia's ChatGPT Tailwind

AMD’s results suggest that data-center capital spending from hyperscale cloud vendors for accelerators and graphics processing units has been resilient, while the viral adoption of ChatGPT has raised expectations for Nvidia's sales growth. In that context, he termed ChatGPT as a game-changer and an "iPhone moment" of AI--potentially boosting Nvidia's sales growth.

The reasoning behind the potential sales boost for Nvidia is relatively simple. Nvidia holds a dominant position in the market for chips designed for intensive computing required for AI applications. As more people utilize ChatGPT, the program OpenAI will require more computing power to generate responses to the numerous queries received.

According to an estimate from Citigroup, the growth of ChatGPT usage could bring in sales of between $3 billion and $11 billion for Nvidia over the course of a year. Although it is challenging to predict growth for a new service like ChatGPT, analyst Atif Malik arrived at these figures by considering projections for the number of words generated by ChatGPT and the revenue per word for Nvidia. Similar commentary was voiced by analysts at Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

Game Faces Sales Headwinds

The gaming segment may remain pressured as the inventory correction in consumer PCs limits demand for Nvidia's graphics chips. A top-line recovery in gaming is unlikely through 1H and possibly 2H amid the chance of a broader economic slowdown.

Gaming was once Nvidia’s main breadwinner but on the back of lowered demand, it lost its leading spot to Data Center. Nevertheless, Rakesh notes the company’s leadership position in the segment, estimating Nvidia still claims more than a 70% PC share. And after the severe pullback, checking in with the supply chain, there are indications inventory digestion is “potentially normalizing” with the bottom of the cycle now most likely in the rear-view mirror.

Additionally, new releases of the RTX 40-series GPUs should “provide tailwinds” in the first half of the year. But it involves software that Elon Musk said last year was "essential" to the company's survival. And it could open the door to further questions surrounding Tesla's Autopilot systems.

There is no reason for investors to make a "sell" decision based on the headlines, but this is a situation that Tesla shareholders need to monitor closely in the quarters to come.

Autopilot hits a speed bump

In a recall notice published Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that Tesla's full self-driving software package "may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections," adding that the system "may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver's adjustment of the vehicle's speed to exceed posted speed limits."

Tesla in response is voluntarily recalling the vehicles, with plans for an over-the-air software fix. The vehicles affected include 2016-2023 Model S and Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles equipped with the Full-Self Driving beta.

Despite the name, "Full Self-Driving" does not make a Tesla autonomous, and the company has long dealt with questions about its marketing of the system and how its owners use it. The software has been a lucrative add-on for Tesla: The option currently costs $15,000 up front or $199 per month in the United States.

Tesla offered no comment on the NHTSA announcement. Tesla according to the notice has identified 18 warranty claims potentially related to the conditions described by the NHTSA, and it isn't aware of any injuries or deaths related to those situations.

The risk goes far beyond this announcement

Shares of Tesla were largely unchanged following the announcement, perhaps because of the relatively simple fix offered in the recall notice. Automakers routinely deal with recalls to fix a range of problems, and Tesla is no exception.

But that doesn't mean investors can be asleep at the wheel. The Autopilot or Full Self-Driving technology is a key part of the bull case for Tesla, and a major reason the company boasts a valuation that dwarfs the rest of the industry. Musk, in a 2022 interview, said that it is "essential" that the company solves full self-driving, saying "it's really the difference between Tesla being worth a lot of money or worth basically zero."

The NHTSA said in its statement it will continue to monitor the recall to ensure Tesla's remedies are effective, and noted that a broader investigation of Tesla's software systems remains open and active. Government officials have said they are concerned that the technology might make drivers less-attentive than what is needed to be safe.

There is also a risk that Tesla might eventually need to invest in new hardware to satisfy government concerns, which could mean either refunds or costly upgrades to hundreds of thousands of vehicles already on the roads whose owners have bought the service. And some of the conditions contained in the recall could make Autopilot less appealing to consumers, for example language requiring Autopilot to limit Tesla vehicles to the posted speed limit.

Keep your hands on the wheel

There is nothing in this news to suggest Tesla is going to zero. But it involves software that Elon Musk said last year was \"essential\" to the company's survival. And it could open the door to further questions surrounding Tesla's Autopilot systems. There is no reason for investors to make a \"sell\" decision based on the headlines, but this is a situation that Tesla shareholders need to monitor closely in the quarters to come.Autopilot hits a speed bumpIn a recall notice published Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that Tesla's full self-driving software package \"may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections,\" adding that the system \"may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver's adjustment of the vehicle's speed to exceed posted speed limits.\"Tesla in response is voluntarily recalling the vehicles, with plans for an over-the-air software fix. The vehicles affected include 2016-2023 Model S and Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles equipped with the Full-Self Driving beta.Despite the name, \"Full Self-Driving\" does not make a Tesla autonomous, and the company has long dealt with questions about its marketing of the system and how its owners use it. The software has been a lucrative add-on for Tesla: The option currently costs $15,000 up front or $199 per month in the United States.Tesla offered no comment on the NHTSA announcement. Tesla according to the notice has identified 18 warranty claims potentially related to the conditions described by the NHTSA, and it isn't aware of any injuries or deaths related to those situations. The risk goes far beyond this announcementShares of Tesla were largely unchanged following the announcement, perhaps because of the relatively simple fix offered in the recall notice. Musk, in a 2022 interview, said that it is \"essential\" that the company solves full self-driving, saying \"it's really the difference between Tesla being worth a lot of money or worth basically zero.\"The NHTSA said in its statement it will continue to monitor the recall to ensure Tesla's remedies are effective, and noted that a broader investigation of Tesla's software systems remains open and active. And some of the conditions contained in the recall could make Autopilot less appealing to consumers, for example language requiring Autopilot to limit Tesla vehicles to the posted speed limit.Keep your hands on the wheelThere is nothing in this news to suggest Tesla is going to zero. But Tesla is going to have to navigate past this period of government scrutiny for the stock to reach the potential some believe it has. Last year, Cathie Wood's Ark Invest said Tesla shares could be worth as much as $4,600 apiece -- more than 20 times the current price -- by 2026, assuming robotaxis are in service by then.Even in Ark's bear case, which puts the price of Tesla shares at $2,900, assumes about $50 billion in autonomous revenue by 2026.With the government taking action, Tesla is likely to spend more time reworking its existing systems and less time pushing the envelope further, meaning the odds decrease that the company will hit Ark's futuristic goal by that 2026 deadline. (NYSE:PLTR) is one of the few public companies that are destined to successfully deal with the ongoing geopolitical shocks that we are currently experiencing. The company has a healthy balance sheet, no major exposure to emerging markets, and a handful list of clients from the public and private sectors, who are eager to optimize their processes to improve the efficiency of their organizations and cut down costs. In addition, thanks to its close connections to the Pentagon, the company will likely benefit from the increased military spending of the U.S. and its European allies, as the latest NATO Summit in Madrid showed the willingness of member states to substantially increase their defense budgets. Also, Palantir’s space and geospatial intelligence solutions are likely going to attract new customers given its successes on the Ukrainian battlefield.

Therefore, as investors are preparing to hear Palantir’s Q2 earnings results in August, now is a good time to go through some latest developments that will positively affect the company’s performance in the long run, and discuss its intrinsic value in the current environment to solidify the bullish case for the stock.

New Global Order

In the past, I have already extensively covered Palantir’s governmental contracts, which account for the majority of the company’s revenues. However, the latest NATO summit in Madrid shows that the company will be able to increase its market share in the defense business even more all thanks to its unique AI-based defense software solutions that are built on Palantir’s Gotham platform.

The major highlight of the summit was the adoption of NATO’s new Strategic Concept document that outlines the security policy of all member states for the following years. While the document itself is long and full of different details about various aspects of a new security policy, I want to focus on several main things from the final declaration that was adopted at the end of the summit, as they’ll have direct positive implications for Palantir’s business. During the summit, NATO member states agreed on the following:

We will build on our newly enhanced posture, and significantly strengthen our deterrence and defense for the long term to ensure the security and defense of all Allies. We will do so in line with our 360-degree approach, across the land, air, maritime, cyber, and space domains, and against all threats and challenges.

Palantir has been very active in cyber and space domains. In one of my previous articles, I have already explained how the company was able to track the movement of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border prior to the invasion. What I want to add to that is that Palantir was and is able to do so thanks to its equity investment in a geospatial intelligence business BlackSky (BKSY), which is able to track important targets on the battlefield that are later destroyed by artillery and rocket strikes. Just recently, BlackSky entered into a 10-year contract with the National Reconnaissance Office that’s worth up to $1 billion. This will make it possible for the company to increase its market share in the geospatial intelligence market and help Palantir to recoup its investment as well.

In addition to this, here’s another important statement that was made by NATO member states:

We are establishing a Defense Innovation Accelerator and launching a multinational Innovation Fund to bring together governments, the private sector, and academia to bolster our technological edge.

At this stage, Palantir is one of the most popular AI-based software solution providers to governmental agencies, as the U.S. Army, Navy, Space Command, CIA, and a handful of other departments are its clients. While in the past there was pessimism about the company’s governmental business due to the lack of new contracts at the beginning of this year, the sentiment in recent months has completely changed. NATO’s commitment to improving its technological capabilities to tackle the ongoing challenges is a positive long-term sign for Palantir as well.

Just in June, Palantir won a $53.89 million contract modification from the U.S. Space Command and also was selected to develop a prototype for the U.S. Army's TITAN program that’s aimed at tracking threats with the help of AI and machine learning. Given the fact that it’s not the first nor last contract from both the U.S. Army and Space Command, it’s safe to assume that Palantir will continue to establish a stronger presence in the AI-based defense software solution market, especially as it’s also actively expanding its operations in Europe to work with more NATO members.

Finally, another important highlight from the summit is the following statement:

We will build on the progress made to ensure that increased national defense expenditures and NATO common funding will be commensurate with the challenges of a more contested security order. Investing in our defense and key capabilities is essential.

In the past, there was a reluctance to increase defense budgets, especially among European NATO states, due to internal strife. However, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has changed this. If the military spending in the U.S. was declining since 2011, started to rebound only a few years ago, and reached 2011 levels in 2020, then in the following decade, we should see an unprecedented increase in the DoD budget. The latest forecasts show that the U.S. alone will be spending nearly $1 trillion a year by 2032 on defense, which is a positive thing for Palantir, which heavily relies on governmental contracts to grow its business. Add to this an increased spending of other NATO states and you’ll see that Palantir’s growth story is more alive than ever.

Numbers Supplement Palantir's Growth Story

Palantir not only has a growth story going for it but it also has solid fundamentals and a decent upside. The upcoming Q2 earnings results will come out in August, and even though there were nine downward revisions due to the volatile macro environment, the consensus revenue growth rate for the quarter still stands at nearly 26% Y/Y. Considering that a recession is already around the corner, having a double-digit revenue growth rate is pretty impressive in the current environment.

Another positive thing is that the company is already profitable on a non-GAAP basis and is also close to profitability on a GAAP basis. In 2022, theexpectations are that earnings will continue to improve and the EPS for the year will be at $0.16, up nearly 25% Y/Y. What’s also important to note is that Palantir has been generating positive FCF at least since its direct listing in 2020, as in 2020 itsunleveredFCF was $273.8 million, while in 2021 it was $476.7 million.

When it comes to valuations, there has been a lot of speculation about Palantir’s fair value due to its excessive stock-based compensation policy that leads to a net loss on an income statement even though the business has outstanding gross margins of over 70% and generates positive FCF. That’s why I decided to create a DCF model in which I’ll try to figure out the business’s fair value and what shareholders should expect in the future.

For the revenue and EBIT estimates, I took the street consensus for the following years, which shows that advisory firms expect the company to show a positive EBIT in 2022 and onward after years of losses. The tax rate in the model stands at 21% of EBIT, which equals the basic U.S. corporate tax rate since the United States is Palantir's single biggest market. The D&A and capital expenditures in the model are at a rate similar to the previous years, while the change in NWC in the forecasted periods is positive since it’s also positive in the previous years as well.

Palantir's DCF Model(Seeking Alpha, Street Forecasts, Author's Estimates)

The WACC in the model stands at 8.5%, while the terminal growth rate stands at 3%. One of the main upsides of Palantir is that it has no long-term debt or short-term borrowings, which will make it easier for the company to navigate through the current volatile environment as it’s going to be relatively unaffected by higher interest rates.

Another major upside is the fact that Palantir also has $2.52 billion in cash reserves to weather the upcoming financial storm. Thanks to a decent amount of liquidity and no debt, the equity value in the model stands at $22.75 billion which equals to a fair value of $11.17 per share, which represents an upside of nearly 20% from the current market price.

Palantir's DCF Calculations(Author's Estimates)

My DCF price target is also similar to the consensus street target of $11.26 per share:

Palantir's Consensus Price Target(Seeking Alpha)

It made sense for the model to show a similar fair value to the street consensus since the top-line expectations were in-line with the street estimates. However, it still shows a decent upside from the current market price and there are also several things worth discussing to understand why there’s even more room for growth for Palantir’s stock in the long run.

First of all, the company itself aims to grow at an annual revenue rate of 30% or above through 2025, which is above the growth rate in my model. If it manages to do so this and next year thanks to the increased NATO defense spending discussed above, then the intrinsic value already is going to be higher than in the model.

In addition, the stock-based compensation policy is the only thing that prevents Palantir from trading at higher multiples. Let’s not forget that the company has a gross profit margin ofnearly80% due to the small cost of goods sold mostly thanks to the fact that the main thing that it provides is software solutions that don’t require a lot of expenses on Palantir’s side. The moment you decrease stock-based compensations – your EBIT starts to greatly appreciate and change the whole earnings inputs in the model.

The good news is that in recent years Palantir has been significantly decreasing its stock-based compensation expenses. If in 2020 the stock-based compensationwas$1.27 billion, then in 2021 it was only $778 million, down 38.5% Y/Y. If in Q1’21 the stock-based compensation was $193 million, then in Q1’22 it was only $149 million, down 22.8% Y/Y.

This trend of strong top-line growth and the stock-based compensation decrease is one of the main reasons why I continue to be so bullish on Palantir and plan to hold my long position for a long time. Once stock-based compensation decreases even more – my model that already shows a decent upside will become too conservative given the changes to EBIT that were discussed above. This will lead to an even greater fair value and will likely push the stock to higher levels in the future.

Risks

The only main risk to Palantir’s bullish story is a prolonged recession. Since Palantir is a growth company that generated a net loss in recent years due to the excessive stock-based compensation policy – its stock has already suffered a major depreciation. If we’ll see a "lost decade" scenario where the economy will show little to no growth for years, then there’s a risk that Palantir’s commercial side of the business will take a hit. As a result, even if the governmental business continues to grow due to the increased defense spending, Palantir’s commercial customers could terminate their contracts to cut costs, which will negatively affect the company’s performance and decrease its forecasted top-line growth forecast.

However, we shouldn’t forget that the goal of Palantir’s software is to help its clients to better optimize their business processes to cut costs and minimize the downside of supply chain disruptions. That’s why even in the current environment Palantir is able to strike major commercial deals with legacy automakers such as Stellantis (STLA) to accelerate the business’s digital transformation. Therefore, it’s likely that while a prolonged recession will hurt Palantir, it will bring only a short-term negative effect, as it’s in the best interests of its clients to minimize the downsides caused by a volatile macro environment by implementing software solutions that improve the overall efficiency of their businesses.

The Bottom Line

Palantir’s Q2 results will come out next month and even though the street revised the earnings forecasts, the company has everything going for it to continue to show outstanding results and grow at a double-digit rate. The latest NATO summit in Madrid shows that Western governments are serious about tackling the global challenges by increasing their military spending and improving their technical capabilities. As a result, it’s safe to say that Palantir will be able to benefit from the changing geopolitical landscape thanks to its unique AI-based defense software solutions. Add to this the fact that stock-based compensations decrease while the top-line continues to grow at an impressive rate and you have the company that’s worth investing in for the long haul.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Palantir: Generational Buy Opportunity
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nPalantir: Generational Buy Opportunity\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-07-15 23:29 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryPalantir will be able to mitigate the downside of various geopolitical shocks that we’re currently experiencing.Recent awards by various agencies of the DoD signal that Palantir will continue ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc."},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4523305-palantir-generational-buy-opportunity","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1135014649","content_text":"SummaryPalantir will be able to mitigate the downside of various geopolitical shocks that we’re currently experiencing.Recent awards by various agencies of the DoD signal that Palantir will continue to be one of the major software solution providers to the U.S. military-industrial complex. As revenues continue to grow while the stock-based compensation decreases, there’s no reason to be bearish on PLTR.Palantir Technologies Inc. Therefore, as investors are preparing to hear Palantir’s Q2 earnings results in August, now is a good time to go through some latest developments that will positively affect the company’s performance in the long run, and discuss its intrinsic value in the current environment to solidify the bullish case for the stock.New Global OrderIn the past, I have already extensively covered Palantir’s governmental contracts, which account for the majority of the company’s revenues. Since hitting their respective all-time highs between mid-November and the first week of January, the iconic Dow Jones Industrial Average, benchmark S&P 500, and growth-focused Nasdaq Composite, plunged by as much as 19%, 24%, and 34%. The greater than 20% declines in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq firmly placed both indexes in a bear market.

To not beat around the bush, bear markets can be scary. The velocity and unpredictability of downside moves can truly test the resolve of investors. But if history has a say, bear markets are also the perfect time to put your money to work. That's because every major stock market decline throughout history has, eventually, been erased by a bull market.

With the Nasdaq Composite getting hit harder than the other indexes, it looks like the ideal time to invest in growth stocks with unmatched innovative capacity and sustainable competitive advantages. What follows are five unsurpassable growth stocks you'll regret not buying on the Nasdaq bear market dip.

Meta Platforms

The first phenomenal growth stock you'll be kicking yourself over if you don't buy it during the Nasdaq bear market dip is social media giant Meta Platforms. Meta is the company formerly known as Facebook.

Although advertising spending has been hit hard in 2022 as historically high inflation and back-to-back quarters of U.S. gross domestic product declines suppress discretionary spending, Meta remains well-positioned to capitalize on disproportionately long periods of economic expansion. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, are consistently among the most-downloaded apps worldwide. With 3.65 billion people visiting its sites on a monthly basis (that's over half the global adult population), Meta is in prime position to command strong ad-pricing power.

The other reason to like Meta is the company's aggressive investments in the "metaverse" -- i.e., the next iteration of the internet which'll allow connected users the ability to interact with each other and their environments in a 3D virtual world. Though it'll take a few more years before the metaverse is ready to be meaningfully monetized, Meta fixes to be a key on-ramp to this multitrillion-dollar opportunity.

Shares of Meta Platforms are cheaper than they've ever been on a forward-earning basis as a publicly traded company. That makes this social-media maven a screaming buy at the moment.

PubMatic

A second stellar growth stock begging to be bought as the Nasdaq Composite plunges is cloud-based programmatic adtech company PubMatic. Although PubMatic is contending with same advertising spending weakness as Meta, it's on track to grow by a considerably faster rate.

PubMatic is what's known as a sell-side provider (SSPs) in the adtech space. This is a fancy way of saying that it specializes in selling digital display space for publishers. Because there aren't many SSPs for publishers to choose from, and ad dollars have been steadily shifting to digital formats, such as video, mobile, and over-the-top streaming, PubMatic has consistently delivered organic growth of at least twice the industry average.

Perhaps the best aspect of PubMatic is its internally designed cloud infrastructure platform. Rather than relying on a third party for its platform. PubMatic built its infrastructure. While costly in the beginning, handling its own infrastructure should result in substantially higher operating margins than its peers as revenue scales.

If you need one more solid reason to trust in PubMatic, consider this: The company ended June with $183 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, and no debt!

Palantir Technologies

The third unsurpassable growth stock worth buying on the Nasdaq bear market dip is artificial intelligence (AI)-driven data-mining company Palantir Technologies. Palantir's valuation used to be its biggest obstacle. But following a greater than 80% retracement in its share price, it's now ripe for the picking.

What makes Palantir such an intriguing investment for long-term growth investors is that there's no other company offering what it does at scale. The company's AI-based Gotham platform helps government agencies with missions and data gathering. Meanwhile, the Foundry platform is focused on helping businesses streamline their operations by making sense of large amounts of data.

For the past couple of years, Gotham has been Palantir's primary growth driver. Being awarded large government contracts that can span four or more years has helped the company grow its sales by 30% or more on a consistent basis. But looking ahead, Foundry is Palantir's golden ticket. Whereas not all governments can utilize Palantir's proprietary software, Foundry's ceiling is much higher. As of June 30, 2022, Palantir had 119 commercial customers, which was up 250% from the prior-year period.

Though recurring profitability could be a few years away, Palantir's superb topline growth and niche industry positioning can send shares significantly higher.

Lovesac

A fourth exceptional growth stock you'll be mad at yourself for not buying on the Nasdaq bear market decline is furniture company Lovesac. Yes, I really said "growth" and "furniture company" in the same sentence.

Whereas most brick-and-mortar furniture companies are slow-growing, stodgy businesses, Lovesac is turning the industry on its head in two key ways.

First off, its furniture is unique. The company's "sactionals" -- a sactional is a modular couch that can be rearranged dozens of ways to fit most living spaces -- account for nearly 88% of net sales and incorporate function, choice, and ecofriendly materials. Sactionals can be upgraded to include surround-sound systems and wireless charging stations, and they have over 200 cover choices. Further, the yarn used in these covers is made entirely from recycled plastic water bottles.

Secondly, Lovesac's omnichannel sales platform has led it to success. Despite having 162 retail locations in 40 states, the company's substantially higher margins are a reflection of its direct-to-consumer emphasis, as well as pop-up showrooms and brand-name partnerships. With less inventory needed in physical retail stores, Lovesac's overhead expenses are considerably lower than its peers.

Alphabet

The fifth and final unsurpassable growth stock you'll regret not buying during the Nasdaq bear market dip is FAANG stock Alphabet. Alphabet is the parent of internet search engine Google, streaming platform YouTube, and autonomous car company Waymo.

The no-brainer reason to pile into Alphabet is the company's absolutely dominant internet search engine, Google. According to data from GlobalStats, Google has accounted for no less than 91% of worldwide internet search share for the trailing 24 months. With an 88-percentage-point lead over its next-closest competitor, it should come as no surprise that Alphabet is able to command exceptional ad-pricing power.

But what Wall Street and investors are most-excited about is what Alphabet is doing with its available cash and operating cash flow. For instance, investments in YouTube have paid off handsomely. Easily one of the best acquisitions in history (Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006), YouTube has become the second most-visited social site in the world. As you can imagine, this has helped tremendously with ad and subscription revenue.

There's also Google Cloud, which has vaulted to the No. 3 spot in cloud-service market share. Cloud infrastructure spending is still in its early innings, which means Google Cloud could become a key driver of operating cash flow for parent company Alphabet by as soon as mid-decade.

Like Meta Platforms, Alphabet has simply never been cheaper as a publicly traded company.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Nasdaq Bear Market: 5 Unsurpassable Growth Stocks You'll Regret Not Buying on the Dip
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNasdaq Bear Market: 5 Unsurpassable Growth Stocks You'll Regret Not Buying on the Dip\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-29 23:23 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
This year has served as a kick-in-the-pants reminder that the stock market doesn't rise in a straight line -- even if 2021 gave off the impression that it did. What follows are five unsurpassable growth stocks you'll regret not buying on the Nasdaq bear market dip.Meta PlatformsThe first phenomenal growth stock you'll be kicking yourself over if you don't buy it during the Nasdaq bear market dip is social media giant Meta Platforms. Meta is the company formerly known as Facebook.Although advertising spending has been hit hard in 2022 as historically high inflation and back-to-back quarters of U.S. gross domestic product declines suppress discretionary spending, Meta remains well-positioned to capitalize on disproportionately long periods of economic expansion. The other reason to like Meta is the company's aggressive investments in the \"metaverse\" -- i.e., the next iteration of the internet which'll allow connected users the ability to interact with each other and their environments in a 3D virtual world. Though it'll take a few more years before the metaverse is ready to be meaningfully monetized, Meta fixes to be a key on-ramp to this multitrillion-dollar opportunity.Shares of Meta Platforms are cheaper than they've ever been on a forward-earning basis as a publicly traded company. That makes this social-media maven a screaming buy at the moment.PubMaticA second stellar growth stock begging to be bought as the Nasdaq Composite plunges is cloud-based programmatic adtech company PubMatic. Although PubMatic is contending with same advertising spending weakness as Meta, it's on track to grow by a considerably faster rate.PubMatic is what's known as a sell-side provider (SSPs) in the adtech space. This is a fancy way of saying that it specializes in selling digital display space for publishers. Because there aren't many SSPs for publishers to choose from, and ad dollars have been steadily shifting to digital formats, such as video, mobile, and over-the-top streaming, PubMatic has consistently delivered organic growth of at least twice the industry average.Perhaps the best aspect of PubMatic is its internally designed cloud infrastructure platform. Rather than relying on a third party for its platform. PubMatic built its infrastructure. While costly in the beginning, handling its own infrastructure should result in substantially higher operating margins than its peers as revenue scales. If you need one more solid reason to trust in PubMatic, consider this: The company ended June with $183 million in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, and no debt!Palantir TechnologiesThe third unsurpassable growth stock worth buying on the Nasdaq bear market dip is artificial intelligence (AI)-driven data-mining company Palantir Technologies. As of June 30, 2022, Palantir had 119 commercial customers, which was up 250% from the prior-year period.Though recurring profitability could be a few years away, Palantir's superb topline growth and niche industry positioning can send shares significantly higher.LovesacA fourth exceptional growth stock you'll be mad at yourself for not buying on the Nasdaq bear market decline is furniture company Lovesac. Yes, I really said \"growth\" and \"furniture company\" in the same sentence.Whereas most brick-and-mortar furniture companies are slow-growing, stodgy businesses, Lovesac is turning the industry on its head in two key ways.First off, its furniture is unique. The company's \"sactionals\" -- a sactional is a modular couch that can be rearranged dozens of ways to fit most living spaces -- account for nearly 88% of net sales and incorporate function, choice, and ecofriendly materials. Sactionals can be upgraded to include surround-sound systems and wireless charging stations, and they have over 200 cover choices. Further, the yarn used in these covers is made entirely from recycled plastic water bottles.Secondly, Lovesac's omnichannel sales platform has led it to success. Despite having 162 retail locations in 40 states, the company's substantially higher margins are a reflection of its direct-to-consumer emphasis, as well as pop-up showrooms and brand-name partnerships. With less inventory needed in physical retail stores, Lovesac's overhead expenses are considerably lower than its peers.AlphabetThe fifth and final unsurpassable growth stock you'll regret not buying during the Nasdaq bear market dip is FAANG stock Alphabet. Cloud infrastructure spending is still in its early innings, which means Google Cloud could become a key driver of operating cash flow for parent company Alphabet by as soon as mid-decade.Like Meta Platforms, Alphabet has simply never been cheaper as a publicly traded company.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":45,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9065872216,"gmtCreate":1652180170935,"gmtModify":1676535046523,"author":{"id":"3580536610076415","authorId":"3580536610076415","name":"BettyT","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6a4dfe2f455acd2af7629f83ce30e20c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Would this be effected the price?🤔","listText":"Would this be effected the price?🤔","text":"Would this be effected the price?🤔","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9065872216","repostId":"2234665417","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2234665417","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1652175546,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2234665417?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2022-05-10 17:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2234665417","media":"Reuters","summary":"Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles.","content":"

Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Many investors who are low on cash and highly exposed to stocks feel demoralized by the falling prices. To regain control, investors need to differentiate between companies that will recover in the long term and those that will not. The stocks to buy and hold are those where the company is financially sound. In addition, financially sound businesses will have manageable debt.

They are also typically companies that did not list on public markets within the last two years. Those more newly public companies likely sold their stock at unsustainable valuations.

Source: StockRover

In the table at right, you can see the strong quality scores from many of my picks for this gallery.Stock Rover definesvalue using metrics like price-to-earnings and price-to-sales.

Investors should avoid companies that sold stock to pay bills or that reward management with excess stock-based compensation. In contrast, the stocks to buy and hold are companies that have steady or improving fundamentals. Markets will reward them by sending their price higher.

Long-term investors in a bear market cannot time a stock’s recovery, which is why finding solid stocks to buy and hold is so important. But to reduce risks, investors should begin with a starter position in a stock. Increase the position every quarter if the company posts good results. Companies that posted unexpectedly weak results are not automatically stocks to avoid though. You can give them another quarter to prove themselves.

AVGO

Broadcom

$580.13

CB

Chubb

$211.29

CSCO

Cisco Systems

$45.05

CAG

Conagra Brands

$32.89

MRK

Merck

$92.03

PRU

Prudential

$106.68

QCOM

Qualcomm

$143.22

Broadcom (AVGO)

Broadcom(NASDAQ:AVGO) is resilient to a recession. The technology firm reports strong server storage connectivitydemand of $801 millionin the first quarter. Growth hit 32% year-over-year.

Broadcom will benefit from surplus enterprise IT spending. For example, if corporations need to compute services, they may buy the company’s SAN or MegaRAID storage connectivity solutions.

Video content in social media is another positive catalyst for Broadcom. Cloud customers are adopting its nearline hard disk drives to store data. Sales for storage hardware grew by over 20% compounded annually in the last five years. Strong demand for networking in server storage is increasing average selling prices, as Broadcom is passing along higher material costs related to wafer and substrate production. In 2023 and 2024, the company expects the strong demand to continue.

Some companies may be unable to pass higher costs to customers, but Broadcom and and will raise prices if needed, which is great for investors. Strong profit margins will also support AVGO stock from here.

Chubb (CB)

Chubb(NYSE:CB), an insurance and reinsurance company, posted net premium earnings of $8.75 billion inthe last quarter, up by 6.4% Y/Y. It earned $3.82 a share (non-GAAP). When interest rates rise, Chubb’s return on equity also increases.

Chubb has the flexibility to adjust its rates as competitive pressures change. For example, it adjusted its rates depending on the underwriting conditions. In addition, it reviews the adequacy of its rate and the exposure to inflation. Different sectors require different responses.

Chubb has a geographically diversified business. In Asia, it expects plenty of growth to take place in the next two decades. The company is increasing its presence to capitalize onopportunities in the region. It also has growing exposure to Latin America, though Chubb is cautious in expanding in the region due to its volatility.

The company’s loss ratio improved in the commercial segment, which is a positive development, and it benefited from a resilient portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, Chubb is in financially strong shape to consider merger and acquisition opportunities.

Cisco Systems (CSCO)

CiscoSystems(NASDAQ:CSCO) shares fell after the company posted weak quarterly results. It lost around 2% of orders from de-bookingorders from Russia. Conversely, its enterprise business grew by 37%. When it realizes revenue from its large customers, Cisco might post better results in future quarters.

Chairman and CEO Chuck Robbins said in the earnings call that Cisco has no demand issues. It lowered its outlook because of a $200 million impact from Russia. In addition, the lockdown in Shanghai, China disrupted its supply chain. When supply returns, Cisco will receive the needed components to finish its products and complete the sales.

In the last quarter, Cisco had strong pricing to offset lower sales. CFO Scott Herren said, “our pricing was up about 160 basis points in Q3.” In other words, customers are willing to pay more for Cisco’s products.

Looking ahead, the component supply constraints will ease. The company may have excluded some of the sales rebound in its guidance. It also ended the quarter with over $15 billion in the product backlog. $2 billion of the backlog is in software, a higher-margin product.

Cisco will likely post better revenue and margins in the upcoming quarter as those headwinds fade.

Conagra Brands (CAG)

Conagra Brands(NYSE:CAG) disappointed investors when it cut its profit guidance, citing inflation pressures. It posted revenue growthof 5.1% Y/Y to $2.91 billion. In the fourth quarter, it expects net sales to grow by 7% and earn 64 cents a share.

In the fiscal 2022 year, Conagra expects an operating margin of around 14.5%. It previously guided 15.5%, but the slight decline should not be big enough to worry investors. Importantly, the company hedged 80% of itsmaterials for the fourth quarterand 40% overall for fiscal 2023, reducing volatility.

Investors may wait for inflationary pressures to ease. Conagra may pass some of the higher costs to customers, and will rely on its strong brand to sustain demand strength.

For example, three of its largest brands — Healthy Choice, Birds Eye and Slim Jim — increased market share and posted double-digit growth in the past quarter, despite price increases.

Merck & Co (MRK)

In the drug manufacturing sector,Merck(NYSE:MRK) has business plan that involves seeking buyout candidates. It is looking for solid biotech companies that have a potentially strong pipeline.

And it’s not just about medicine for people. In the animal health business, Merck is also fostering its long-term value. It will grow the business beforeconsidering a spinoff.

Merck’s blockbuster drug Keytruda hasmultiple indicators. It continues to expect growth for the drug in treating renal cell carcinoma. Initially, Merck expected 50% of its growth to come from adjuvant therapy. That is 30% of the U.S. business. It now expects this will represent one-quarter of its global businessin the year 2025.

Merck’s Covid antiviral pill, molnupiravir, will also become a first-line defense in treating infected patients. Merck reported utilization by 500,000 patients around the world and had shipped 6.4 million courses at the end of the last quarter. As Covid reaches an endemic phase, the healthcare industry will rely on this pill to treat more patients.

Prudential Financial (PRU)

Prudential(NYSE:PRU) earned $3.17 per common sharein the last quarterwhich was down from $3.99 last year but still strong. Its investors withdrew $4.3 billion in the quarter due to a challenging quarter for fixed-income mutual fund demand. On the other hand, Prudential saw $300 million more in inflows into real estate and public fixed income.

Looking at a wider timeframe, Prudential added $55 billion in inflows between 2017 and 2021. The outlook is normal when the stock markets are weakening.

To get ahead of the tightening credit market, it issued$1 billion in hybrid debtbefore interest rates started rising. The added liquidity will give Prudential more room to manage its cash flow. For example, it made a capital contribution to its new reinsurance subsidiary. The extra capital will give the unit higher capital efficiency under tougher market conditions.

Prudential has a strong balance sheet and could also pursue M&A if the opportunity arises.

Qualcomm (QCOM)

Qualcomm(NASDAQ:QCOM) is the leader in smartphone chips. It recently announced the release of theSnapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform. The platform will support high-speed 5G on devices with 10 Gbps speeds. The system also offers what it calls “all-day power.” When you add in Wi-Fi 6 and 6E support, its newest chip will refresh its product portfolio and lead to higher sales.

In the last quarter, Qualcomm posted revenue growingby 41.1% to $11.2 billion, and it earned $3.21 a share on a non-GAAP measure. In the third quarter, it expects revenue of up to $11.3 billion and non-GAAP EPS in the range of $2.75 to $2.95.

Markets are both fickle and forgetful. Many investors who are low on cash and highly exposed to stocks feel demoralized by the falling prices. To regain control, investors need to differentiate between companies that will recover in the long term and those that will not. The stocks to buy and hold are those where the company is financially sound. In addition, financially sound businesses will have manageable debt. They are also typically companies that did not list on public markets within the last two years. Those more newly public companies likely sold their stock at unsustainable valuations.Source: StockRoverIn the table at right, you can see the strong quality scores from many of my picks for this gallery.Stock Rover definesvalue using metrics like price-to-earnings and price-to-sales.Investors should avoid companies that sold stock to pay bills or that reward management with excess stock-based compensation. In contrast, the stocks to buy and hold are companies that have steady or improving fundamentals. Markets will reward them by sending their price higher.Long-term investors in a bear market cannot time a stock’s recovery, which is why finding solid stocks to buy and hold is so important. But to reduce risks, investors should begin with a starter position in a stock. Increase the position every quarter if the company posts good results. Companies that posted unexpectedly weak results are not automatically stocks to avoid though. You can give them another quarter to prove themselves.AVGOBroadcom$580.13CBChubb$211.29CSCOCisco Systems$45.05CAGConagra Brands$32.89MRKMerck$92.03PRUPrudential$106.68QCOMQualcomm$143.22Broadcom (AVGO)Broadcom(NASDAQ:AVGO) is resilient to a recession. The technology firm reports strong server storage connectivitydemand of $801 millionin the first quarter. Growth hit 32% year-over-year.Broadcom will benefit from surplus enterprise IT spending. For example, if corporations need to compute services, they may buy the company’s SAN or MegaRAID storage connectivity solutions.Video content in social media is another positive catalyst for Broadcom. Strong profit margins will also support AVGO stock from here.Chubb (CB)Chubb(NYSE:CB), an insurance and reinsurance company, posted net premium earnings of $8.75 billion inthe last quarter, up by 6.4% Y/Y. It earned $3.82 a share (non-GAAP). When interest rates rise, Chubb’s return on equity also increases.Chubb has the flexibility to adjust its rates as competitive pressures change. For example, it adjusted its rates depending on the underwriting conditions. In addition, it reviews the adequacy of its rate and the exposure to inflation. Different sectors require different responses.Chubb has a geographically diversified business. With a strong balance sheet, Chubb is in financially strong shape to consider merger and acquisition opportunities.Cisco Systems (CSCO)CiscoSystems(NASDAQ:CSCO) shares fell after the company posted weak quarterly results. It lost around 2% of orders from de-bookingorders from Russia. Conversely, its enterprise business grew by 37%. When it realizes revenue from its large customers, Cisco might post better results in future quarters.Chairman and CEO Chuck Robbins said in the earnings call that Cisco has no demand issues. CFO Scott Herren said, “our pricing was up about 160 basis points in Q3.” In other words, customers are willing to pay more for Cisco’s products.Looking ahead, the component supply constraints will ease. The company may have excluded some of the sales rebound in its guidance. It also ended the quarter with over $15 billion in the product backlog. $2 billion of the backlog is in software, a higher-margin product.Cisco will likely post better revenue and margins in the upcoming quarter as those headwinds fade.Conagra Brands (CAG)Conagra Brands(NYSE:CAG) disappointed investors when it cut its profit guidance, citing inflation pressures. Importantly, the company hedged 80% of itsmaterials for the fourth quarterand 40% overall for fiscal 2023, reducing volatility.Investors may wait for inflationary pressures to ease. Conagra may pass some of the higher costs to customers, and will rely on its strong brand to sustain demand strength. For example, three of its largest brands — Healthy Choice, Birds Eye and Slim Jim — increased market share and posted double-digit growth in the past quarter, despite price increases.Merck & Co (MRK)In the drug manufacturing sector,Merck(NYSE:MRK) has business plan that involves seeking buyout candidates. It is looking for solid biotech companies that have a potentially strong pipeline. And it’s not just about medicine for people. In the animal health business, Merck is also fostering its long-term value. It will grow the business beforeconsidering a spinoff.Merck’s blockbuster drug Keytruda hasmultiple indicators. It continues to expect growth for the drug in treating renal cell carcinoma. Initially, Merck expected 50% of its growth to come from adjuvant therapy. That is 30% of the U.S. business. It now expects this will represent one-quarter of its global businessin the year 2025.Merck’s Covid antiviral pill, molnupiravir, will also become a first-line defense in treating infected patients. Merck reported utilization by 500,000 patients around the world and had shipped 6.4 million courses at the end of the last quarter. As Covid reaches an endemic phase, the healthcare industry will rely on this pill to treat more patients.Prudential Financial (PRU)Prudential(NYSE:PRU) earned $3.17 per common sharein the last quarterwhich was down from $3.99 last year but still strong. Its investors withdrew $4.3 billion in the quarter due to a challenging quarter for fixed-income mutual fund demand. On the other hand, Prudential saw $300 million more in inflows into real estate and public fixed income.Looking at a wider timeframe, Prudential added $55 billion in inflows between 2017 and 2021. The extra capital will give the unit higher capital efficiency under tougher market conditions.Prudential has a strong balance sheet and could also pursue M&A if the opportunity arises.Qualcomm (QCOM)Qualcomm(NASDAQ:QCOM) is the leader in smartphone chips. In the third quarter, it expects revenue of up to $11.3 billion and non-GAAP EPS in the range of $2.75 to $2.95.Markets are both fickle and forgetful. Qualcomm posted its guidance at the end of April, tet markets dumped the stock alongside other high-flying technology stocks. Should market sentiment turn positive, investors will snap this bargain stock in droves.Late last year, Qualcomm announced a $10 billionstock buyback.
