The holiday-shortened week then feat","content":"
U.S. stock and bond markets are closed on Monday for Labor Day. The holiday-shortened week then features several notable company updates and economic data releases.
\n
GameStop and Lululemon Athletica release quarterly results on Wednesday, followed by International Paper on Thursday and Kroger on Friday. Analog Devices—fresh off of its $21 billion acquisition of Maxim Integrated Products—will host an investor day on Wednesday. Moderna, Danaher, and Home Depot managements will also speak with investors on Thursday. Finally, Albemarle hosts an investor day on Friday.
\n
The economic data highlight of the week will be Friday’s August producer price index from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists’ consensus estimate is for a 0.6% monthly rise in the headline index, and a 0.5% increase for the core PPI—which leaves out more volatile food and energy prices. Both the core and headline indexes rose 1% in July. The August consumer price index will be out the following week, on Sept. 14.
\n
On Tuesday, the Federal Reserve will release its latest beige book, full of updates on economic, hiring, and business conditions in each of the dozen central bank districts. The European Central Bank also announces a monetary-policy decision on Thursday, but is widely expected to hold its target interest rate at its current level of negative 0.5%.
\n
Monday 9/6
\n
Stock and fixed-income markets are closed in observance of Labor Day.
\n
Tuesday 9/7
\n
Casey’s General Stores and Coupa Software announce earnings.
\n
Wednesday 9/8
\n
Copart, GameStop, and Lululemon Athletica release quarterly results.
\n
Analog Devices hosts a conference call to discuss its capital-allocation plans and update its outlook for fiscal 2021. The company recently closed its $21 billion acquisition of Maxim Integrated Products.
\n
Global Payments, Johnson Controls International, and ResMed hold virtual investor days.
\n
The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. Consensus estimate is for 10 million job openings on the last business day of July. In June, there were 10.1 million openings, the fourth consecutive monthly record.
\n
The Federal Reserve reports consumer credit data for July. Total outstanding consumer debt increased by $37.7 billion to a record $4.32 trillion in June. For the second quarter, consumer credit rose at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 8.8%, reflecting pent-up demand.
\n
The Federal Reserve releases the beige book for the sixth of eight times this year. The report summarizes current economic conditions among the 12 Federal Reserve districts.
\n
Thursday 9/9
\n
Home Depot hosts a conference call to discuss its ESG strategy, led by Ron Jarvis, the company’s chief sustainability officer.
\n
Moderna hosts its fifth annual R&D day to discuss vaccines in the company’s pipeline. CEO Stéphane Bancel will be among the presenters.
\n
Danaher holds an investor and analyst meeting, hosted by its CEO Rainer Blair.
\n
International Paper, Synchrony Financial, and Willis Towers Watson hold investor days.
\n
The European Central Bank announces its monetary-policy decision. The ECB is expected to keep its key interest rate unchanged at minus 0.5%.
\n
The Department of Labor reports initial jobless claims for the week ending on Sept. 4. In August, claims averaged 355,000 a week, the lowest since the pandemic’s onset. This will also be the last week that the extra $300 from federal enhanced unemployment benefits is available. They are set to expire by Sept. 6.
\n
Friday 9/10
\n
The BLS reports the producer price index for August. Total outstanding consumer debt increased by $37.7 billion to a record $4.32 trillion in June. For the second quarter, consumer credit rose at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 8.8%, reflecting pent-up demand.\nThe Federal Reserve releases the beige book for the sixth of eight times this year. The report summarizes current economic conditions among the 12 Federal Reserve districts.\nThursday 9/9\nHome Depot hosts a conference call to discuss its ESG strategy, led by Ron Jarvis, the company’s chief sustainability officer.\nModerna hosts its fifth annual R&D day to discuss vaccines in the company’s pipeline. Shares of Wynn were up 20% at the beginning of June, but they have quickly lost ground in the past two months -- the stock is now down about 13% year to date.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":458,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":809079580,"gmtCreate":1627342251740,"gmtModify":1703487819207,"author":{"id":"3581033946066262","authorId":"3581033946066262","name":"Spooky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ac58495ae01df7c2321580f16e3e7a94","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581033946066262","authorIdStr":"3581033946066262"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Will affect tonight market?","listText":"Will affect tonight market?","text":"Will affect tonight market?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/809079580","repostId":"2154642359","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2154642359","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1627341946,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2154642359?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-27 07:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. SEC charges 27 firms for failing to file key disclosure forms","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2154642359","media":"Reuters","summary":"WASHINGTON, July 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission $(SEC.UK)$ on Monday sai","content":"
WASHINGTON, July 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission $(SEC.UK)$ on Monday said more than two dozen investment advisers and broker-dealers agreed to settle charges that they failed to file a key form designed to inform retail investors.
\n
The SEC said it had settled charges against 21 investment advisers and 6 broker-dealers for failing to file or deliver customer relationship summaries to their retail investors. (NIO) is one of China's leading EV players, and has, through an attractive brand and its unique BaaS offering, attracted a lot of interest from consumers and investors. Today, however, the company is still way smaller than Tesla (TSLA), which is currently leading the global EV market. NIO is focused on its home market right now, which was true when Tesla was a smaller company as well, but NIO will try to grab market share in overseas markets as well. Shares are pricing in a lot of growth already, but if NIO can replicate Tesla's success, that could be more than justified.
\n
NIO And TSLA Stock Prices
\n
Both companies have benefitted from growing interest in EVs during 2020, a trend that saw share prices of most EV pureplays rise rapidly. The combination of growing market share for EVs, accommodating policies such as subsidies for EV purchases, and massive monetary stimulus let shares of NIO and TSLA rise rapidly. NIO is up 245% over the last year, while TSLA is up 101% over the same time. Both companies are currently trading below their all-time highs, however, which were hit in early 2021 before market sentiment for EV pureplays cooled to some degree.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Taking a quick look at analyst price targets, we see that Tesla is trading almost perfectly in line with the consensus, whereas NIO trades about 30% below the analyst target. If the analyst community is right, then NIO is a substantially better investment right here, as Tesla is not expected to see its shares rise meaningfully over the next year, whereas NIO has significant upside to the analyst price target.
\n
Is NIO Similar To Tesla?
\n
The answer to that question depends on what you focus on. There are similarities between the two companies, but there are also differences. One could thus say that, in some ways, the two are similar, but in others, they are not. Let's look at a couple of things:
\n
Business Model
\n
Both companies are focused on the EV space, although Tesla has, over the years, been building out a couple of other businesses as well, such as energy storage. Most of Tesla's revenues are generated through selling electric vehicles, which is also how NIO operates. Both companies are focused on the premium segment of EVs, selling higher-priced vehicles that compete with brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. Both companies offer a small range of different vehicles, in Tesla's case those are the well-known S, X, 3, and Y, whereas NIO offers a sedan (ET7), and three SUVs (EC6, ES6, ES8). Despite the fact that NIO is a way smaller company today, the model lineups of the two companies do thus not differ too much.
\n
Both companies offer some type of charging infrastructure to their customers, in Tesla's case, that's the Supercharger network, where Tesla owners can charge their cars with up to 250kW, depending on what version of Supercharger is installed. NIO is following a different approach, offering a battery-as-a-service solution to its customers. NIO owners can get their battery switched out to a fully-charged battery at NIO's stations, a process that takes a couple of minutes and is thus significantly quicker compared to the regular EV charging offered by Tesla and other EV players. BaaS thus has advantages when it comes to the time it takes for a charge/swap, but it should be noted that Tesla's Superchargers are way more common around the world compared to NIO's battery-swapping stations. Rolling out that feature in additional markets will require large capital expenditures, but NIO's offering is a unique selling point compared to what all other EV players, including Tesla, are offering. It remains to be seen whether that will ultimately pay off, but this could become a major advantage for NIO as competition in the EV space is heating up.
\n
Size, growth, and valuation
\n
The two companies differ significantly in size, both when it comes to revenues and vehicle sales, as well as when it comes to the market value of the two companies. NIO has delivered22,000 vehicles in Q2, up 112% year over year, for an annual pace of around 90,000 vehicles. Tesla, meanwhile, has delivered 201,000 vehicles during Q2, up from 103,000 vehicles delivered during Q2 2020. This is strong growth on a year-over-year basis, although slightly below 100%, and thus below the growth rate that NIO is generating for now.
\n
Tesla delivers around 9x as many vehicles compared to NIO per quarter, when we look at the market capitalizations of the two companies, we see that the ratio is almost exactly the same, as Tesla's market cap of $640 billion is ~9x as high as that of NIO, at $72 billion. At similar growth rates, that would make perfect sense, but it looks like NIO might be the better deal for now, as it trades at a comparable valuation while generating better growth. This will be especially true in the coming quarters, where Tesla's growth is expected to slow down:
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
Tesla is forecasted to grow its revenue from $49 billion in 2021 to $83 billion in 2023, for an annual growth rate of 30%. NIO, meanwhile, is expected to see its revenue explode upwards from $5.4 billion to $12.8 billion between 2021 and 2023, for an annual growth rate of 54%. NIO is thus expected to grow way faster than Tesla over the next two years, on a relative basis. This shouldn't be a surprise, to be honest, as the law of large numbers dictates that maintaining massive growth rates becomes increasingly hard for a company the bigger it gets, and Tesla seems to have hit that point by now -- adding 50%+ a year to its top line will not be possible forever. This isn't even necessarily Tesla's fault, in fact, many high-quality growth companies have experienced the same. But investors should still consider this important fact -- Tesla's growth in coming years will be less exciting compared to what we have seen in the past, and peers, such as NIO, are growing faster.
\n
The same holds true when we take a longer-term view. Revenue estimates for 2025 rest at$22.6 billionfor NIO, up another 80% from the 2023 estimate, and up 320% from what analysts are forecasting for 2021. Tesla, meanwhile, is forecasted to generate revenues of $122.5 billion in 2025 -- a large number, but up by a comparatively weak 48% from 2023, and up by a total of 150% versus 2021. Between 2021 and 2025, NIO will thus 4x its revenue, while Tesla will 2.5x its revenue in the same time span -- a meaningful difference that should, all else equal, allow for a premium valuation for NIO, in the same way Tesla deserves a premium valuation versus legacy players such as Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY).
\n
Looking at revenue estimates for 2025 relative to how the two companies are valued today, we see that NIO trades at 3.2x 2025 sales, while the 2025 sales multiple for Tesla is 5.2. For a long-term oriented investor, NIO thus seems like the better value today, thanks to the fact that it is trading at a significantly lower sales multiple when we take a look into the future. This does not necessarily mean that NIO is cheap, however, as even a 3.2x 2025 sales multiple is relatively high compared to how legacy auto companies are valued. NIO is looking less expensive than Tesla, however, even if its shares are not cheap on an absolute basis.
\n
Can NIO Be Worth As Much As Tesla?
\n
The answer to that depends on what time frame you are looking at. Today, NIO is significantly smaller than Tesla and thus rightfully trades at a way smaller market cap. It should also be noted that there is no guarantee that Tesla's shares are a great example of how an EV company should be valued -- it is, at least, possible that its shares are significantly overpriced today, I personally believe that as well (Note that some will argue that shares are underpriced, which is also among the possibilities, although I do not hold that belief personally).
\n
When we do, for a moment, assume that Tesla is correctly valued today and that EV companies do deserve a market cap in the $600 billion range when they sell about 800,000 vehicles a year, then NIO could eventually hit that as well, although not in the near term. NIO will sell about 90,000 vehicles this year, and that amount should grow to about 400,000 in 2025. If NIO were to grow its sales by 15% a year beyond that point, it could sell around 800,000 cars in 2030, or 9 years from now. If one wants to assume faster growth, the 800,000 vehicles a year line could also be crossed before 2030, e.g. in 2028 or 2029. If we do go with 2030 for now, then NIO could, at a similar deliveries-to-market capitalization ratio to Tesla, be valued at $600+ billion in 2030. In other words, NIO could be worth as much as Tesla (today) in nine years, when we assume that current growth projections are realistic and that a Tesla-like valuation is appropriate. Those are two major ifs, of course, and especially the second point is far from certain, I believe. I personally would not be too surprised to see Tesla's valuation compress, and thus NIO could trade well below the $600 billion market cap level in 2030, even if it continues to grow meaningfully. It is also possible that NIO's growth disappoints and that current projections are too bullish, although I think that NIO is well-positioned for growth thanks to its unique BaaS model and its strong brand that is especially well-recognized in its home market.
\n
It should also be noted that Tesla's market cap in 2030 could be very different from $600 billion, thus even in case NIO hits that level, it is not at all guaranteed that the two companies will have a similar market cap. Tesla might be valued at a way higher valuation by then, e.g. if the ARK model is right (something I personally think is unlikely). To answer the above question, one could thus say that NIO might be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, like Tesla, in 8-10 years, but that is not at all guaranteed. And even if that were to happen, Tesla might be worth significantly more by then.
\n
Is NIO A Good Stock To Buy Or Sell Now?
\n
When considering NIO as an investment, it doesn't really matter all that much whether it will become as large or highly valued as Tesla eventually. Instead, investors should ask themselves what total returns they can expect over the next couple of years, and whether those expected returns are high enough relative to the risks in NIO's business model. Regarding those risks, one should mention the fact that the company isn't profitable yet, which means that NIO is dependent on cash on its balance sheet for growth investments. On top of that, competition in the EV space is growing, and market share battles could pressure margins in coming years, although NIO seems relatively well-positioned thanks to its battery-swapping, which is, I believe, a strong USP. Last but not least, the company's dependence on its home market China is a potential risk that should be kept in mind, although it should also be noted that, for now, it seems like the Chinese government is very accommodating to Chinese EV companies.
\n
One could argue that valuations across the whole EV industry are too high, relative to how legacy auto companies are valued. Even those legacy players with attractive EV offerings such as Volkswagen or Ford trade at huge discounts compared to EV pureplays. But if one wants to invest in an EV pureplay, NIO doesn't seem like a bad choice. The company combines a strong brand, a unique BaaS offering, high growth rates, and shares trade at a discount compared to how the EV king Tesla is valued. At a little above 3x 2025 revenue, NIO does not seem overly expensive relative to other EV pureplays, although this still represents a premium versus legacy players, of course. If NIO manages to execute well and continues to roll out new models that are well-received by consumers, its shares could have significant upside potential in the long run. Investors should also consider NIO's valuation versus legacy car companies.\n\nipopba/iStock via Getty Images\nArticle Thesis\nNIO, Inc. Shares are pricing in a lot of growth already, but if NIO can replicate Tesla's success, that could be more than justified.\nNIO And TSLA Stock Prices\nBoth companies have benefitted from growing interest in EVs during 2020, a trend that saw share prices of most EV pureplays rise rapidly. The combination of growing market share for EVs, accommodating policies such as subsidies for EV purchases, and massive monetary stimulus let shares of NIO and TSLA rise rapidly. NIO is up 245% over the last year, while TSLA is up 101% over the same time. Both companies are currently trading below their all-time highs, however, which were hit in early 2021 before market sentiment for EV pureplays cooled to some degree.\nData by YCharts\nTaking a quick look at analyst price targets, we see that Tesla is trading almost perfectly in line with the consensus, whereas NIO trades about 30% below the analyst target. If the analyst community is right, then NIO is a substantially better investment right here, as Tesla is not expected to see its shares rise meaningfully over the next year, whereas NIO has significant upside to the analyst price target.\nIs NIO Similar To Tesla?\nThe answer to that question depends on what you focus on. There are similarities between the two companies, but there are also differences. One could thus say that, in some ways, the two are similar, but in others, they are not. Let's look at a couple of things:\nBusiness Model\nBoth companies are focused on the EV space, although Tesla has, over the years, been building out a couple of other businesses as well, such as energy storage. Despite the fact that NIO is a way smaller company today, the model lineups of the two companies do thus not differ too much.\nBoth companies offer some type of charging infrastructure to their customers, in Tesla's case, that's the Supercharger network, where Tesla owners can charge their cars with up to 250kW, depending on what version of Supercharger is installed. It remains to be seen whether that will ultimately pay off, but this could become a major advantage for NIO as competition in the EV space is heating up.\nSize, growth, and valuation\nThe two companies differ significantly in size, both when it comes to revenues and vehicle sales, as well as when it comes to the market value of the two companies. NIO has delivered22,000 vehicles in Q2, up 112% year over year, for an annual pace of around 90,000 vehicles. Tesla, meanwhile, has delivered 201,000 vehicles during Q2, up from 103,000 vehicles delivered during Q2 2020. This is strong growth on a year-over-year basis, although slightly below 100%, and thus below the growth rate that NIO is generating for now.\nTesla delivers around 9x as many vehicles compared to NIO per quarter, when we look at the market capitalizations of the two companies, we see that the ratio is almost exactly the same, as Tesla's market cap of $640 billion is ~9x as high as that of NIO, at $72 billion. At similar growth rates, that would make perfect sense, but it looks like NIO might be the better deal for now, as it trades at a comparable valuation while generating better growth. This will be especially true in the coming quarters, where Tesla's growth is expected to slow down:\nData by YCharts\nTesla is forecasted to grow its revenue from $49 billion in 2021 to $83 billion in 2023, for an annual growth rate of 30%. But investors should still consider this important fact -- Tesla's growth in coming years will be less exciting compared to what we have seen in the past, and peers, such as NIO, are growing faster.\nThe same holds true when we take a longer-term view. Between 2021 and 2025, NIO will thus 4x its revenue, while Tesla will 2.5x its revenue in the same time span -- a meaningful difference that should, all else equal, allow for a premium valuation for NIO, in the same way Tesla deserves a premium valuation versus legacy players such as Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY).\nLooking at revenue estimates for 2025 relative to how the two companies are valued today, we see that NIO trades at 3.2x 2025 sales, while the 2025 sales multiple for Tesla is 5.2. NIO is looking less expensive than Tesla, however, even if its shares are not cheap on an absolute basis.\nCan NIO Be Worth As Much As Tesla?\nThe answer to that depends on what time frame you are looking at. Today, NIO is significantly smaller than Tesla and thus rightfully trades at a way smaller market cap. It should also be noted that there is no guarantee that Tesla's shares are a great example of how an EV company should be valued -- it is, at least, possible that its shares are significantly overpriced today, I personally believe that as well (Note that some will argue that shares are underpriced, which is also among the possibilities, although I do not hold that belief personally).\nWhen we do, for a moment, assume that Tesla is correctly valued today and that EV companies do deserve a market cap in the $600 billion range when they sell about 800,000 vehicles a year, then NIO could eventually hit that as well, although not in the near term. It is also possible that NIO's growth disappoints and that current projections are too bullish, although I think that NIO is well-positioned for growth thanks to its unique BaaS model and its strong brand that is especially well-recognized in its home market.\nIt should also be noted that Tesla's market cap in 2030 could be very different from $600 billion, thus even in case NIO hits that level, it is not at all guaranteed that the two companies will have a similar market cap. And even if that were to happen, Tesla might be worth significantly more by then.\nIs NIO A Good Stock To Buy Or Sell Now?\nWhen considering NIO as an investment, it doesn't really matter all that much whether it will become as large or highly valued as Tesla eventually. Last but not least, the company's dependence on its home market China is a potential risk that should be kept in mind, although it should also be noted that, for now, it seems like the Chinese government is very accommodating to Chinese EV companies.\nOne could argue that valuations across the whole EV industry are too high, relative to how legacy auto companies are valued. If EV stocks ever become an out-of-favor investment, NIO stock also could have considerable downside, however, this thus is not a low-risk pick. Depending on your risk tolerance, NIO could still be of value if you want a high-growth EV pureplay.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":869964570,"gmtCreate":1632236437490,"gmtModify":1676530731920,"author":{"id":"3581033946066262","authorId":"3581033946066262","name":"Spooky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ac58495ae01df7c2321580f16e3e7a94","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581033946066262","authorIdStr":"3581033946066262"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":13,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/869964570","repostId":"1184803643","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184803643","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1632235583,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1184803643?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-21 22:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Upstart jumped nearly 7% and reached record high","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184803643","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(Sept 21) Upstart Holdings, Inc. jumped nearly 7% and reached record high. Things were already bleak for those long from the old SPRT ticker, but since GREE took over things have gone from bad to worse. GREE fell another 22% on Monday to close just over $30. GREE peaked at $60 last week and so had lost half of its value in just four trading sessions. What investors and traders must be wondering is how much more pain is to come?
\n
GREE stock news
\n
Just as a back story, GREE was formed as Greenidge Generation Holdings took over Support.com. Support.com had traded under the ticker SPRT and was a meme stock favourite with a large retail following enthusiastically discussing the stock on social media. SPRT stock had exhibited huge price swings just as with a lot of other retail or meme names. Back in March of this year is when things started to get interesting and when retail traders started to really notice the stock. The deal with Greenidge was announced in March. Support.com was a good fit for retail traders as it was a facilitator of remote working solutions, which grew in popularity during the pandemic. However, Support.com is a much smaller entity despite having a public listing.
\n
After the merger, Support.com became a small part or subsidiary of Greenidge. SPRT shares spiked on the announcement of this deal back in March but went quiet again until retail interest appeared to pick up in August. SPRT stock was circulating around various social media chat sites as the short interest was high, meaning the retail traders decided to try and instigate a short squeeze. This has obviously worked well in other meme names such as GME and AMC, but SPRT was not exactly in the same situation. SPRTstockwas to become a much smaller piece of the overall GREE company. There have also been valuation concerns that the SPRT spike had put a much too high valuation on the combined GREE company. Investors sold as a result. Usually in a merger or takeover, positions in the old ticker are rolled into the new one.
\n
GREE stock forecast
\n
As we can see from the chart below, the point of control since GREE launched is at $47.56 with the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) just below at $43. This is a volume resistance then as most of the volume has been here. There is not much historical data to look through for the chart otherwise, and thevolatilitymakes anyanalysisrather difficult. The rally came despite concerns about the spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus and unease about the timetable for an eventual rollback of easy-money policies implemented by the Federal Reserve at the onset of the pandemic last year.
\n
On Monday, U.S. stock exchanges, including the Intercontinental Exchange Inc. -owned New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Inc.,will be closed, so don’t look for any action in individual stocks or indexes including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 or Nasdaq Composite indexes.
\n
The S&P 500 has already notched 54 record closing highs in 2021 and was looking for its 55th on Friday, while the Nasdaq Composite was on track to book its 35th all-time high of the year. The Dow stood less than a percentage point from its Aug. 16 record, mid-afternoon Friday.
\n
Sifma, the securities-industry trade group for fixed-income, also has recommended the bond market close on Labor Day, including trading in the 10-year Treasury note, which was yielding around 1.33% after the U.S. August jobs report came in weaker than expected.
\n
However, the Labor Department’s employment report, which showed that 235,000 jobs were created in August, far below expectations for more than 700,000, failed to dull expectations among sovereign debt investors for a near-term announcement of tapering of the Fed’s $120 billion in monthly purchases in Treasurys and mortgage-backed securities.
\n
Trading in most commodity futures, including Nymex crude-oil and Comex gold,on U.S. exchanges will also be halted Monday.
\n
Is there any significance to the holiday for average investors, besides the time off in the U.S. and the barbecues?
\n
Probably not.
\n
But the May Memorial Day to September Labor Day period in recent years has proven a bullish stretch one for investors, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The rally came despite concerns about the spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus and unease about the timetable for an eventual rollback of easy-money policies implemented by the Federal Reserve at the onset of the pandemic last year.\nOn Monday, U.S. stock exchanges, including the Intercontinental Exchange Inc. -owned New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Inc.,will be closed, so don’t look for any action in individual stocks or indexes including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 or Nasdaq Composite indexes.\nThe S&P 500 has already notched 54 record closing highs in 2021 and was looking for its 55th on Friday, while the Nasdaq Composite was on track to book its 35th all-time high of the year. The Dow stood less than a percentage point from its Aug. 16 record, mid-afternoon Friday.\nSifma, the securities-industry trade group for fixed-income, also has recommended the bond market close on Labor Day, including trading in the 10-year Treasury note, which was yielding around 1.33% after the U.S. August jobs report came in weaker than expected.\nHowever, the Labor Department’s employment report, which showed that 235,000 jobs were created in August, far below expectations for more than 700,000, failed to dull expectations among sovereign debt investors for a near-term announcement of tapering of the Fed’s $120 billion in monthly purchases in Treasurys and mortgage-backed securities.\nTrading in most commodity futures, including Nymex crude-oil and Comex gold,on U.S. exchanges will also be halted Monday.\nIs there any significance to the holiday for average investors, besides the time off in the U.S. and the barbecues?\nProbably not.\nBut the May Memorial Day to September Labor Day period in recent years has proven a bullish stretch one for investors, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Dow, for example, is up by about 2% over that period and averages a gain of 1.3%, producing a winning record 65% of the time. The Dow is currently enjoying a win streak, over the past six Memorial Day/Labor Day periods, representing the longest win streak since 1989. It has risen more than 70% over that period in past years and averages a 1.7% gain. The broad-market index rose 16% during that time in 2020.\nDOW JONES MARKET DATA\nBut if there is a bona fide trend in the Labor Day trading it may be this one that MarketWatch’s Steve Goldstein reports, quoting Raymond James strategist Tavis McCourt, who says that in the last two years, there was a big value and cyclical bias in stock markets after the holiday, and in 2018, markets basically collapsed after the summer drew to a close.\nIt is impossible to know if the stock market rally will peter out similarly this time around but there is a growing sense on Wall Street that valuations are too lofty and equity indexes are due for a pullback of at least 5% or better from current heights.\nMarkets will be back to business as usual on Tuesday and, of course, European bourses, including London’s FTSE 100 index and the pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 will be open on Monday, as well as Asian markets, the Nikkei 225,Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite Index.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":169,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":817321141,"gmtCreate":1630910336283,"gmtModify":1676530418418,"author":{"id":"3581033946066262","authorId":"3581033946066262","name":"Spooky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ac58495ae01df7c2321580f16e3e7a94","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581033946066262","authorIdStr":"3581033946066262"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/817321141","repostId":"1143325200","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1143325200","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1630882610,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1143325200?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-06 06:56","market":"us","language":"en","title":"GameStop, Moderna, Home Depot, Kroger, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1143325200","media":"Barrons","summary":"U.S. stock and bond markets are closed on Monday for Labor Day.
But investors should still consider this important fact -- Tesla's growth in coming years will be less exciting compared to what we have seen in the past, and peers, such as NIO, are growing faster.\nThe same holds true when we take a longer-term view. And even if that were to happen, Tesla might be worth significantly more by then.\nIs NIO A Good Stock To Buy Or Sell Now?\nWhen considering NIO as an investment, it doesn't really matter all that much whether it will become as large or highly valued as Tesla eventually. If EV stocks ever become an out-of-favor investment, NIO stock also could have considerable downside, however, this thus is not a low-risk pick. Depending on your risk tolerance, NIO could still be of value if you want a high-growth EV pureplay.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":897377366,"gmtCreate":1628896715955,"gmtModify":1676529885702,"author":{"id":"3581033946066262","authorId":"3581033946066262","name":"Spooky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ac58495ae01df7c2321580f16e3e7a94","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581033946066262","authorIdStr":"3581033946066262"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/897377366","repostId":"1136144260","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":425,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":805600102,"gmtCreate":1627873091306,"gmtModify":1703496942820,"author":{"id":"3581033946066262","authorId":"3581033946066262","name":"Spooky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ac58495ae01df7c2321580f16e3e7a94","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581033946066262","authorIdStr":"3581033946066262"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks for the detail information","listText":"Thanks for the detail information","text":"Thanks for the detail information","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/805600102","repostId":"1138178272","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1138178272","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627869986,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1138178272?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-02 10:06","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Stocks to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1138178272","media":"The Motley Fool","summary":"The first week of August could make or break these companies in the near term.\nKey Points\n\nFighting ","content":"
The first week of August could make or break these companies in the near term.
\n
Key Points
\n
\n
Fighting off the lazy days of summer could be difficult for these three stocks.
\n
Two of the companies face strong headwinds.
\n
\n

\n
As the calendar flips to August, the summer doldrums are ready to hit the market in what is typically the worst month for stocks. Let's see why these are the stocks to watch this week.
\n
\n
EverQuote
\n
Online insurance marketplace Everquote Inc. kicks off earnings among this group by reporting its second-quarter results after the market closes Monday. Management is guiding for revenue to jump 30% year over year -- or almost twice the 16% rate the company expects industry-wide spending on online insurance advertising to grow each year through 2024.
\n
That ad spending is how EverQuote generates revenue: It has over 100 carriers in its marketplace, especially in auto insurance, where most of thetop insurersparticipate. It also has a network of over 85,000 agents.
\n
The auto market is currently EverQuote's biggest vertical, because its platform is eminently scalable. But it is increasinglyexpanding into new markets, including home, life, and health insurance. It acquired specialized health insurer Crosspointe last September to facilitate its entry into that category.
\n
All five analysts who cover EverQuote rate it a buy, and the consensus price target of $52.75 per share points to nearly 75% upside potential.
\n
\n
Nikola
\n
There is good reason investors have been down on Nikola Corporation, a maker of electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks. And the challenges were summed up when the company's founder and former CEO Trevor Milton wascharged with three counts of fraudby federal prosecutors last week for allegedly making false and misleading statements to investors.
\n
The word \"former\" is key here, though, as Milton stepped down from the company last year (the alleged criminal acts were committed between 2019 and 2020). So when the company reports second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, it will arguably have the most heavy lifting to do to convince investors it's still not some smoke-and-mirrors operation.
\n
That shouldn't be too hard. In May, it signed agreements with Total Transportation Services for 100 semi trucks, and in mid-July, it added 51 more dealerships in nine states, bringing total sales and service locations up to 116 sites.
\n
The stock of thisalternative-fuel truck makeris in the tank, however, down 85% since last June. A surge in COVID-19 cases across the U.S. also has many investors on edge, renewing worries around a stalled economic recovery.\nEverquote Inc., Nikola Corporation, and Wynn all report earnings in the first week of August. Let's see why these are the stocks to watch this week.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nEverQuote\nOnline insurance marketplace Everquote Inc. kicks off earnings among this group by reporting its second-quarter results after the market closes Monday. Management is guiding for revenue to jump 30% year over year -- or almost twice the 16% rate the company expects industry-wide spending on online insurance advertising to grow each year through 2024.\nThat ad spending is how EverQuote generates revenue: It has over 100 carriers in its marketplace, especially in auto insurance, where most of thetop insurersparticipate. It also has a network of over 85,000 agents.\nThe auto market is currently EverQuote's biggest vertical, because its platform is eminently scalable. But it is increasinglyexpanding into new markets, including home, life, and health insurance. It acquired specialized health insurer Crosspointe last September to facilitate its entry into that category.\nAll five analysts who cover EverQuote rate it a buy, and the consensus price target of $52.75 per share points to nearly 75% upside potential.\nIMAGE SOURCE: NIKOLA.\nNikola\nThere is good reason investors have been down on Nikola Corporation, a maker of electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks. And the challenges were summed up when the company's founder and former CEO Trevor Milton wascharged with three counts of fraudby federal prosecutors last week for allegedly making false and misleading statements to investors.\nThe word \"former\" is key here, though, as Milton stepped down from the company last year (the alleged criminal acts were committed between 2019 and 2020). So when the company reports second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, it will arguably have the most heavy lifting to do to convince investors it's still not some smoke-and-mirrors operation.\nThat shouldn't be too hard. In May, it signed agreements with Total Transportation Services for 100 semi trucks, and in mid-July, it added 51 more dealerships in nine states, bringing total sales and service locations up to 116 sites.\nThe stock of thisalternative-fuel truck makeris in the tank, however, down 85% since last June. Pessimism might be so bad for this company, not to mention the shadow of its founder still hanging over it, that Nikola could give investors a big surprise.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nWynn Resorts\nCasino operator Wynn is third to report with earnings coming on Wednesday, and there is a lot of doubt around how it will fare.
