She has used at least five more since to buy face cream, T-shirts and birthday gifts.
\n
Installment plans are back in style.PayPal Holdings Inc. last week said it was buying Japanese installment payment startup Paidy Inc., following Square Inc.’s $29 billion deal for Afterpay Ltd.Macy’s Inc. and Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. have added the option at checkout over the past year. Even Amazon.com Inc. is doing it.
\n
One reason: shoppers like Ms. Luedtke who don’t qualify for credit cards. Buy-now-pay-later companies say they rely less on—and in some cases bypass altogether—traditional credit scores and reports. Doing so allows them to approve more consumers. Shoppers gain the ability to buy things even without cash on hand—translating to higher sales for retailers.
\n
Afterpay said it expects the company’s U.S. merchants will see an $8.2 billion increase in sales this year because of payment plans.Affirm Holdings Inc. last year said purchases made with its payment plans were 85% larger, on average.
\n
Shoppers spend more at Macy’s when they use installment plans offered through Klarna Bank AB, Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette said on a recent earnings call. Klarna also is helping the retailer attract younger customers, he said.
\n

\n
“The value that most retailers see in buy now, pay later is customer acquisition,” said David Sykes, Klarna’s North America head.
\n
Ms. Luedtke, 26, has credit cards now but still prefers installment plans. Just last month, she used them to buy about $40 of Peter Thomas Roth skin-care products and $65 in clothing from Shein.
\n
“It definitely influences how much more I buy or would spend,” she said. “It’s easier to pay $200 over so many weeks compared to $200 right now.”
\n
Buy now, pay later is a new twist on an old idea. Big retailers have for decades offered installment plans for big-ticket items like washing machines. Today, these plans come in a variety of flavors. Afterpay offers payment plans that shoppers usually attach to their debit cards. Others, like Affirm, also facilitate new loans.
\n
Interest rates and other terms vary by payment-plan provider. Affirm interest rates range from 0% to 30%, with some 43% of its transactions during its last fiscal year not charging interest at all. The company doesn’t charge late fees. Afterpay doesn’t charge interest but does collect late fees.
\n

\n
Merchants take no credit risk with these plans, but the fees they incur can be higher than on credit-card purchases—often between 3% and 5% of the purchase price, according to people familiar with the matter.
\n
Buy-now-pay-later companies say they can approve more customers than banks, including people who have thin or no borrowing history. Some 53 million adults in the U.S. lack traditional credit scores, according to FICO score creator Fair Isaac Corp.Installment plans are safer, they say, because they are often smaller than credit-card spending limits and approved on a per-transaction basis.
\n
Affirm said that it had a net charge-off rate of 1% in the quarter ended June 30, down from 2% a year earlier. Afterpay said it wrote off 0.6% of the total dollars it processed in payments during the company’s fiscal year ended June 30, up from 0.4% the year prior.
\n
Working with a web of retailers, buy-now-pay-later companies can create self-contained payment ecosystems. They factor payment behavior into future underwriting decisions. Customers who pay late or not at all risk losing the installment option at other participating retailers.
\n
“Most merchants want a partner who has real advantage and real ability to underwrite,” said Affirm CEO Max Levchin. “These are not deeper approvals, but they are different approvals.”
\n
Affirm facilitates new loans among other payment plans.
\n
Amazon and Walmart Inc. are both working with Affirm. Both have said they want their financial partners to extend credit to more of their customers.
\n
Amazon is reviewing proposals, as it weighs whether to replace its longtime card issuer, JPMorgan Chase & Co. Amazon is looking for “commitments to underwrite competitively to widen the acquisition funnel,” the retailer said in a request for proposals reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
\n
A desire to boost loan approvals was among the reasons Walmart in 2018 decided to end its decadeslong credit-card partnership with Synchrony Financial.(Capital One Financial Corp. now issues Walmart-branded credit cards.) The retailer made Affirm loans available to most of its customers the following year.
\n
“Our goal is financial inclusion for all,” said Julia Unger, Walmart’s vice president of financial services.
\n
Some banks now offer installment options on their credit cards.Citigroup Inc. saw a sevenfold increase in the dollar amount of credit-card purchases converted to installment loans in July, compared with the same month a year prior, said Gonzalo Luchetti, head of Citigroup’s U.S. consumer bank.
\n
Synchrony, the largest U.S. store-credit-card issuer, will launch a buy-now, pay-later plan in October. She has used at least five more since to buy face cream, T-shirts and birthday gifts.\nInstallment plans are back in style.PayPal Holdings Inc. last week said it was buying Japanese installment payment startup Paidy Inc., following Square Inc.’s $29 billion deal for Afterpay Ltd.Macy’s Inc. and Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. have added the option at checkout over the past year. Even Amazon.com Inc. is doing it.\nOne reason: shoppers like Ms. Luedtke who don’t qualify for credit cards. Buy-now-pay-later companies say they rely less on—and in some cases bypass altogether—traditional credit scores and reports. Doing so allows them to approve more consumers. Shoppers gain the ability to buy things even without cash on hand—translating to higher sales for retailers.\nAfterpay said it expects the company’s U.S. merchants will see an $8.2 billion increase in sales this year because of payment plans.Affirm Holdings Inc. last year said purchases made with its payment plans were 85% larger, on average.\nShoppers spend more at Macy’s when they use installment plans offered through Klarna Bank AB, Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette said on a recent earnings call. Klarna also is helping the retailer attract younger customers, he said.\n\n“The value that most retailers see in buy now, pay later is customer acquisition,” said David Sykes, Klarna’s North America head.\nMs. Luedtke, 26, has credit cards now but still prefers installment plans. Just last month, she used them to buy about $40 of Peter Thomas Roth skin-care products and $65 in clothing from Shein.\n“It definitely influences how much more I buy or would spend,” she said. “It’s easier to pay $200 over so many weeks compared to $200 right now.”\nBuy now, pay later is a new twist on an old idea. Big retailers have for decades offered installment plans for big-ticket items like washing machines. Today, these plans come in a variety of flavors. Afterpay offers payment plans that shoppers usually attach to their debit cards. Others, like Affirm, also facilitate new loans.\nInterest rates and other terms vary by payment-plan provider. Affirm interest rates range from 0% to 30%, with some 43% of its transactions during its last fiscal year not charging interest at all. The company doesn’t charge late fees. Afterpay doesn’t charge interest but does collect late fees.\n\nMerchants take no credit risk with these plans, but the fees they incur can be higher than on credit-card purchases—often between 3% and 5% of the purchase price, according to people familiar with the matter.\nBuy-now-pay-later companies say they can approve more customers than banks, including people who have thin or no borrowing history. Some 53 million adults in the U.S. lack traditional credit scores, according to FICO score creator Fair Isaac Corp.Installment plans are safer, they say, because they are often smaller than credit-card spending limits and approved on a per-transaction basis.\nAffirm said that it had a net charge-off rate of 1% in the quarter ended June 30, down from 2% a year earlier. Afterpay said it wrote off 0.6% of the total dollars it processed in payments during the company’s fiscal year ended June 30, up from 0.4% the year prior.\nWorking with a web of retailers, buy-now-pay-later companies can create self-contained payment ecosystems. They factor payment behavior into future underwriting decisions. Customers who pay late or not at all risk losing the installment option at other participating retailers.\n“Most merchants want a partner who has real advantage and real ability to underwrite,” said Affirm CEO Max Levchin. “These are not deeper approvals, but they are different approvals.”\nAffirm facilitates new loans among other payment plans.\nAmazon and Walmart Inc. are both working with Affirm. Both have said they want their financial partners to extend credit to more of their customers.\nAmazon is reviewing proposals, as it weighs whether to replace its longtime card issuer, JPMorgan Chase & Co. Amazon is looking for “commitments to underwrite competitively to widen the acquisition funnel,” the retailer said in a request for proposals reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.\nA desire to boost loan approvals was among the reasons Walmart in 2018 decided to end its decadeslong credit-card partnership with Synchrony Financial.(Capital One Financial Corp. now issues Walmart-branded credit cards.) The retailer made Affirm loans available to most of its customers the following year.\n“Our goal is financial inclusion for all,” said Julia Unger, Walmart’s vice president of financial services.\nSome banks now offer installment options on their credit cards.Citigroup Inc. saw a sevenfold increase in the dollar amount of credit-card purchases converted to installment loans in July, compared with the same month a year prior, said Gonzalo Luchetti, head of Citigroup’s U.S. consumer bank.\nSynchrony, the largest U.S. store-credit-card issuer, will launch a buy-now, pay-later plan in October. Capital One will test out its own offering later this year, CEO Richard Fairbank said at a conference Monday.\nWells Fargo & Co. and Bank of America Corp. are exploring adding installment plans on their credit cards, according to people familiar with the matter.Visa Inc. said it has been testing out ways for shoppers to check if they qualify for installment plans when they enter their card numbers at checkout.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":427,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":832353687,"gmtCreate":1629593788149,"gmtModify":1676530074236,"author":{"id":"3581492696295317","authorId":"3581492696295317","name":"brankoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/46a9d5a048e4bdcbfd81cc71edc11a8f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581492696295317","authorIdStr":"3581492696295317"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To the moon!!","listText":"To the moon!!","text":"To the moon!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/832353687","repostId":"2161149745","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2161149745","pubTimestamp":1629498960,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2161149745?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-21 06:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Bitcoin rises 5 percent to $49,106","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2161149745","media":"StreetInsider","summary":"(Reuters) - Bitcoin rose 5.01 % to $49,106.4 at 22:04 GMT on Friday, adding $2,342.1 to its previous","content":"

\n
(Reuters) - Bitcoin rose 5.01 % to $49,106.4 at 22:04 GMT on Friday, adding $2,342.1 to its previous close.
\n
Bitcoin, the world's biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, is up 77.4% from the year's low of $27,734 on Jan. 4.
\n
Ether, the coin linked to the ethereum blockchain network, rose 3.03% to $3,281.82 on Friday, adding $96.64 to its previous close.
\n
(Reporting by Radhika Anilkumar in Bengaluru; Here Is What to Expect.","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1131068131","media":"Barrons","summary":"Despite controversy, economic damage to online ads amid Covid-19 pandemic-related economic turmoil, ","content":"
Despite controversy, economic damage to online ads amid Covid-19 pandemic-related economic turmoil, and antitrust scrutiny, Facebook is expected to report another blockbuster quarter Wednesday.
\n
As demonstrated by powerful results last week from Snapchat maker Snap (ticker: SNAP), digital advertising is coming back, fast. Facebook (FB) stands to make even more money than Snap. Analysts expect a net profit of nearly $7 billion, which amounts to $2.61 a share, when Facebook reports results after the closing bell Wednesday.
\n
Including sales of its virtual reality hardware, and other devices—which are expected contribute to the estimated $452 million to the “Other” revenue segment—Facebook revenue is expected to rise roughly 33% to $23.71 billion. The ad business will contribute revenue of $23.29 billion.
\n
Facebook is expected to grow its user base by tens of millions as well. Analysts forecast its daily member count will rise to 1.87 billion, and monthly user base will top 2.83 billion. Its monthly user base is expected to reach almost 3 billion (2.99 billion) by the end of the year.
\n
Beyond advertising, BMO Capital Markets analyst Daniel Salmon wrote in a research note that commerce and shopping are becoming more important for Facebook’s success.
\n
In March, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said there were one million Facebook Shops, and 250 million visitors. Salmon said that if the company discloses the gross merchandise volume, it could help cement the importance to investors of Facebook’s commerce initiatives. Salmon acknowledged that such as disclosure wasn’t likely.
\n
Investors have been wondering for months about the impact of a change to Apple‘s mobile operating system tech, which finally rolled out this week.
\n
On Monday, in an update to its iOS operating system,Apple changed its software to ask iPhone and iPad users to opt in to an app’s tracking—a significant departure from the opt out ability buried in the operating system’s settings previously.
\n
Zuckerberg and Apple (APPL) CEO Tim Cook have sparred over the issue for months. With just over a day’s worth of data, it seems unlikely Facebook will share details about the impact on its users. Previously developers have said it will hurt advertising targeting, and therefore damage ad revenue. It isn’t yet clear exactly what Apple users will do when presented with the choice, or the effectiveness of potential workarounds built by Facebook and others.
\n
BofA Securities analyst Justin Post wrote that he expects a “modest, low-single digit” impact on advertising spending on the platform since Facebook has had “ample time to prepare and develop workarounds.”
\n
Facebook finance chief David Wehner has discussed the potential impact on the business in past conference calls, and investors should pay close attention to any updates offered Wednesday. It’s worth noting that Zuckerberg took a less cautious tone in March, saying that he was confident the company will handle the situation. There is also the potential it could positively benefit the company, the CEO said.
\n
Of the analysts that cover Facebook, 49 rate the stock Buy, six have a Hold, and three rate it a Sell. Facebook (FB) stands to make even more money than Snap. Analysts expect a net profit of nearly $7 billion, which amounts to $2.61 a share, when Facebook reports results after the closing bell Wednesday.\nIncluding sales of its virtual reality hardware, and other devices—which are expected contribute to the estimated $452 million to the “Other” revenue segment—Facebook revenue is expected to rise roughly 33% to $23.71 billion. The ad business will contribute revenue of $23.29 billion.\nFacebook is expected to grow its user base by tens of millions as well. Analysts forecast its daily member count will rise to 1.87 billion, and monthly user base will top 2.83 billion. Its monthly user base is expected to reach almost 3 billion (2.99 billion) by the end of the year.\nBeyond advertising, BMO Capital Markets analyst Daniel Salmon wrote in a research note that commerce and shopping are becoming more important for Facebook’s success.\nIn March, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said there were one million Facebook Shops, and 250 million visitors. Salmon said that if the company discloses the gross merchandise volume, it could help cement the importance to investors of Facebook’s commerce initiatives. Salmon acknowledged that such as disclosure wasn’t likely.\nInvestors have been wondering for months about the impact of a change to Apple‘s mobile operating system tech, which finally rolled out this week.\nOn Monday, in an update to its iOS operating system,Apple changed its software to ask iPhone and iPad users to opt in to an app’s tracking—a significant departure from the opt out ability buried in the operating system’s settings previously.\nZuckerberg and Apple (APPL) CEO Tim Cook have sparred over the issue for months. With just over a day’s worth of data, it seems unlikely Facebook will share details about the impact on its users. Previously developers have said it will hurt advertising targeting, and therefore damage ad revenue. It isn’t yet clear exactly what Apple users will do when presented with the choice, or the effectiveness of potential workarounds built by Facebook and others.\nBofA Securities analyst Justin Post wrote that he expects a “modest, low-single digit” impact on advertising spending on the platform since Facebook has had “ample time to prepare and develop workarounds.”\nFacebook finance chief David Wehner has discussed the potential impact on the business in past conference calls, and investors should pay close attention to any updates offered Wednesday. It’s worth noting that Zuckerberg took a less cautious tone in March, saying that he was confident the company will handle the situation. There is also the potential it could positively benefit the company, the CEO said.\nOf the analysts that cover Facebook, 49 rate the stock Buy, six have a Hold, and three rate it a Sell. The average target price is $339, which implies an upside of 12%.\nBarron’s took a positive view of Facebook stock earlier this month. Still, Tesla bulls on Wall Street remained enthused.
\n
Tesla delivered 201,250 cars in the second quarter, but its stock was down about 0.3% in recent trading, after bobbing up and down Friday. TheS&P 500andDow Jones Industrial Averagewere up about 0.6% and 0.4% respectively.
\n
RBC analystJoseph Spakwrote deliveries were a little better than the Wall Street consensus, adding “encouragingly, production outpaced deliveries.” That shows Spak that Tesla (ticker: TSLA) is successfully managing the through semiconductor supply constraints.
\n
A globalsemiconductor shortagehas affected the entire auto industry. Benchmark analystMike Ward, for instance, believes it reduced North American auto production by about 1 million light vehicles in the first half of 2021.
\n
Spak rates Tesla shares Hold and has a $725 price target for shares. Ward covers auto stocks, but doesn’t cover Tesla.
\n
Baird analystBen Kallowrote Tesla’s results showed “operational prowess,” as the company managed to navigate the chip shortage and produce another quarterly delivery record. “We are increasingly confident in our [second half] delivery assumptions,” he writes. “We estimate that underlying demand for Tesla products remains strong with S/X, Cybertruck, and semi deliveries remaining tailwinds.”
\n
He estimates Tesla will deliver about 868,000 vehicles in 2021, above the Wall Street consensus at about 855,000 to 865,000 vehicles.
\n
Wedbush analystDan Ivesis even more optimistic and believes Tesla will deliver closer to 900,000 vehicles in 2021. He called the quarterly figure “impressive.”
\n
New Street ResearchPierre Ferragualso expects Tesla deliveries to accelerate in the second half of 2021. He points out that Tesla produced about 204,000 Model 3 and Y vehicles in the second quarter, indicating that production in Shanghai is ramping higher.
\n
Ferragu, Ives, and Kallo are all Tesla bulls, rating shares Buy. Ferragu’s target price for the stock is $900, while Ives’s target price is $1,000. Kallo’s is the lowest of the three at $736.
\n
GLJ analystGordon Johnsonis a Tesla bear. He rates shares Sell and has a Street low price target of $67, and was unimpressed by deliveries. He said Tesla critics will focus on the fact Tesla made more cars than it delivered in the quarter, unlike the first quarter quarterof 2021and the fourth quarterof 2020. Deliveries and production, of course, should closely match over time.
\n
Next up for analysts, after digesting deliveries, will be earnings, due out in late July. Wall Street expects about 95 cents in per-share earnings. Tesla reported 93 cents in per-share earnings for the first quarter of 2021.
\n
Tesla’s last record quarterly operating profit came in the third quarter of 2020 when it reported a profit of $809 million. Still, Tesla bulls on Wall Street remained enthused.\nTesla delivered 201,250 cars in the second quarter, but its stock was down about 0.3% in recent trading, after bobbing up and down Friday. TheS&P 500andDow Jones Industrial Averagewere up about 0.6% and 0.4% respectively.\nRBC analystJoseph Spakwrote deliveries were a little better than the Wall Street consensus, adding “encouragingly, production outpaced deliveries.” That shows Spak that Tesla (ticker: TSLA) is successfully managing the through semiconductor supply constraints.\nA globalsemiconductor shortagehas affected the entire auto industry. Benchmark analystMike Ward, for instance, believes it reduced North American auto production by about 1 million light vehicles in the first half of 2021.\nSpak rates Tesla shares Hold and has a $725 price target for shares. Ward covers auto stocks, but doesn’t cover Tesla.\nBaird analystBen Kallowrote Tesla’s results showed “operational prowess,” as the company managed to navigate the chip shortage and produce another quarterly delivery record. “We are increasingly confident in our [second half] delivery assumptions,” he writes. “We estimate that underlying demand for Tesla products remains strong with S/X, Cybertruck, and semi deliveries remaining tailwinds.”\nHe estimates Tesla will deliver about 868,000 vehicles in 2021, above the Wall Street consensus at about 855,000 to 865,000 vehicles.\nWedbush analystDan Ivesis even more optimistic and believes Tesla will deliver closer to 900,000 vehicles in 2021. He called the quarterly figure “impressive.”\nNew Street ResearchPierre Ferragualso expects Tesla deliveries to accelerate in the second half of 2021. He points out that Tesla produced about 204,000 Model 3 and Y vehicles in the second quarter, indicating that production in Shanghai is ramping higher.\nFerragu, Ives, and Kallo are all Tesla bulls, rating shares Buy. Ferragu’s target price for the stock is $900, while Ives’s target price is $1,000. Kallo’s is the lowest of the three at $736.\nGLJ analystGordon Johnsonis a Tesla bear. He rates shares Sell and has a Street low price target of $67, and was unimpressed by deliveries. He said Tesla critics will focus on the fact Tesla made more cars than it delivered in the quarter, unlike the first quarter quarterof 2021and the fourth quarterof 2020. Deliveries and production, of course, should closely match over time.\nNext up for analysts, after digesting deliveries, will be earnings, due out in late July. Wall Street expects about 95 cents in per-share earnings. Tesla reported 93 cents in per-share earnings for the first quarter of 2021.\nTesla’s last record quarterly operating profit came in the third quarter of 2020 when it reported a profit of $809 million. For the second quarter of 2021, analysts are looking for about $961 million–another record.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":485,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":108191805,"gmtCreate":1620003585807,"gmtModify":1704337159831,"author":{"id":"3581492696295317","authorId":"3581492696295317","name":"brankoh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/46a9d5a048e4bdcbfd81cc71edc11a8f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581492696295317","authorIdStr":"3581492696295317"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Why all the comments are not productive.. zzz","listText":"Why all the comments are not productive.. zzz","text":"Why all the comments are not productive.. zzz","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/108191805","repostId":"1135819410","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1135819410","pubTimestamp":1619999342,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1135819410?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-03 07:49","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Uber, Pfizer, PayPal, T-Mobile, ViacomCBS, General Motors, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1135819410","media":"Barrons","summary":"It’s another packed week of earnings reports, with 130 S&P 500 companies on deck to release their fi","content":"
It’s another packed week of earnings reports, with 130 S&P 500 companies on deck to release their first-quarter results.
