Some also think the anomaly is the result of traders using year-end cash bonuses to purchase equities the following month.

Employment data will be in the spotlight this week. The Department of Labor’s monthly jobs report due for release on Friday will offer an updated look at the strength of hiring and labor force participation — important measures of the U.S. economy, made even more consequential in recent weeks amid a backdrop of rising COVID-19 cases as investors look to assess the impact of the the latest Omicron-driven wave.

Consensus economist estimates suggest that about 400,000 jobs were added in December, with the pace of hiring nearly doubling from the fewer-than-expected 210,000 recorded in November, when forecasts predicted a half-million new jobs to return. The unemployment rate is also expected to improve further to 4.1% from 4.3% in November when it ticked down to the lowest read since March 2020.

Although the pace of non-farm payrolls is projected to have risen in December, the downside risk to estimates may be “sizable.”

“COVID caseloads have been on the rise since November, and news that Omicron could be more infectious than previous variants circulated widely during the December survey period,” Bloomberg economists wrote in a note. “Given how often households have cited fear of COVID or care-taking needs related to COVID as the most important reasons for staying out of the job market, the emergence of the Omicron variant could continue to discourage them.”

Despite steady rehiring since the peak of the pandemic, labor force participation remains short of pre-virus levels. The civilian labor force was down by about 2.4 million participants as of November, compared to February 2020. Labor issues are also fueling surging inflation levels, as companies large and small face logistical challenges, including rising business costs and supply chain bottlenecks caused by a shortage of workers.

“This severe labor market shortage — more than any other economic factor — is accounting for a massive breakdown in the normally well-oiled global supply chain,” experts at Wilmington Trust said in their 2022 Capital Markets Outlook. “Labor participation and how firms deal with global resource disorder will likely determine the path for inflation, which is the critical consideration for investors in 2022.”

With inflation at the forefront, investors will also set their sights on the Federal Reserve as it looks to raise interest rates this year to offset swelling price levels. The pace of these hikes will determine the stock market’s path forward in the new year.

Minutes from the FOMC’s Dec. 15 policy-setting meeting, due out Wednesday, could give investors a better picture of where policymakers see interest rates going in 2022.

Fed officials indicated last month that all 18 members predict at least one 25 basis point hike next year, with the median member forecasting three rate hikes before 2022 is over. The next FOMC meeting is scheduled to take place on Jan. 25 and 26.

“What’s not changed is the focus on inflation, that’s the biggest risk,” Brigg Macadam founding partner Greg Swenson told Yahoo Finance Live, adding that the Fed changing its tone is “too little, too late.”

“They are still, by most measures, quite dovish, even with the tapering of bond purchases and the market pricing in three hikes next year, you’ll still have dramatically negative real rates,” he said. “I wouldn’t call that a hawkish Fed — maybe their tone has changed a little bit and they have definitely stopped using the word ‘transitory,’ they have all but admitted that they missed inflation and underestimated it.”

Although earnings season doesn’t fully commence until around mid-month, several notable off-cycle reports are due out this week, including ones from Jefferies, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Walgreens.

CES, the Consumer Technology Association's iconic consumer electronics show will also take place from Jan. 5-7 in Las Vegas, but will end one day earlier than initially planned due to fast-spreading cases of COVID-19. The event may also have a light crowd, with some usual, big name attendees like Apple, Alphabet and Facebook's parent Meta dropping their plans to attend in-person under the circumstances.

Economic calendar

Monday: Markit US Manufacturing PMI, December final (57.7 estimated, 57.8 prior); Construction Spending, month over month, November (0.7% estimated, 0.2% prior month)

Tuesday: ISM New Orders, December (61.5% prior month); ISM Prices Paid, December (79.3 estimated, 82.4 prior month); ISM Manufacturing, December (60.2 estimated, 61.1) prior month); ISM Employment, December (53.3 prior month); JOLTS job openings, November (11,033,000 prior month); WARDS Total Vehicle Sales, December (13,100,000 expected, 12,860,000 prior month)

Wednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended Dec. 31 (-0.6% during prior week); ADP Employment Change, December (360,000 expected, 534,000 during prior month); Markit US Composite PMI, December final (56.9 prior month); Markit US Services PMI, December final (57.5 expected, 57.5 prior month); FOMC Meeting Minutes, December 15

Thursday: Challenger Job Cuts, year over year, December (-77% prior); Trade Balance, November (-$74,000,000,000 expected, -$67,000,000,000); Initial Jobless Claims, week ended January 1 (199,000 expected, 198,000 during prior week) Continuing Claims, week ended January 1 (1,715,000 expected, 1,716,000 prior week); Langer Consumer Comfort, January 2 (47.9 prior); Factory Orders excluding transportation, November (1.6% prior); Factory Orders, November (1.5% expected, 1.0% prior) ISM Services Index, December (67.0 expected, 69.1 prior); Durable Goods Orders, November final (2.5% prior); Durable Goods Excluding Transportation, November final (0.8% prior); Capital Goods Orders Nondefense Excluding Aircrafts, November final (-0.1%); Capital Goods Shipments Nondefense Excluding Aircrafts, November final (0.3%)

Friday: Revisions – Employment Report, Household Survey; Two-Month Payroll Net Revision, December (82,000 prior); Change in Nonfarm Payrolls, December (400,000 expected, 210,000 prior month); Change in Private Payrolls, December (370,000 expected, 235,000 prior month); Change in Manufacturing Payrolls, December (33,000 expected, 31,000 prior month); Unemployment Rate, December (4.1 expected, 4.3% prior); Average Hourly Earnings, month over month, December (0.4% expected, 0.3% prior month); Average Hourly Earnings, year over year (4.2% expected, 4.8% prior month); Average Weekly Hours All Employees, December (34.8 expected, 34.8 prior month); Labor Force Participation Rate, December (61.9% expected, 61.8% prior month); Underemployment Rate, December (7.8% prior month); Consumer Credit, November (22,500,000,000 expected, 16,897,000,000 prior month)

Earnings calendar

Monday: No notable reports scheduled for release

Tuesday: Jefferies Financial Group (JEF), MillerKnoll (MLKN) after market close

Wednesday: Mullen Automotive Inc. Some also think the anomaly is the result of traders using year-end cash bonuses to purchase equities the following month.Employment data will be in the spotlight this week. The Department of Labor’s monthly jobs report due for release on Friday will offer an updated look at the strength of hiring and labor force participation — important measures of the U.S. economy, made even more consequential in recent weeks amid a backdrop of rising COVID-19 cases as investors look to assess the impact of the the latest Omicron-driven wave.Consensus economist estimates suggest that about 400,000 jobs were added in December, with the pace of hiring nearly doubling from the fewer-than-expected 210,000 recorded in November, when forecasts predicted a half-million new jobs to return. The unemployment rate is also expected to improve further to 4.1% from 4.3% in November when it ticked down to the lowest read since March 2020.Although the pace of non-farm payrolls is projected to have risen in December, the downside risk to estimates may be “sizable.”“COVID caseloads have been on the rise since November, and news that Omicron could be more infectious than previous variants circulated widely during the December survey period,” Bloomberg economists wrote in a note. “Given how often households have cited fear of COVID or care-taking needs related to COVID as the most important reasons for staying out of the job market, the emergence of the Omicron variant could continue to discourage them.”Despite steady rehiring since the peak of the pandemic, labor force participation remains short of pre-virus levels. The civilian labor force was down by about 2.4 million participants as of November, compared to February 2020. Labor issues are also fueling surging inflation levels, as companies large and small face logistical challenges, including rising business costs and supply chain bottlenecks caused by a shortage of workers.“This severe labor market shortage — more than any other economic factor — is accounting for a massive breakdown in the normally well-oiled global supply chain,” experts at Wilmington Trust said in their 2022 Capital Markets Outlook. “Labor participation and how firms deal with global resource disorder will likely determine the path for inflation, which is the critical consideration for investors in 2022.”With inflation at the forefront, investors will also set their sights on the Federal Reserve as it looks to raise interest rates this year to offset swelling price levels. The pace of these hikes will determine the stock market’s path forward in the new year.Minutes from the FOMC’s Dec. 15 policy-setting meeting, due out Wednesday, could give investors a better picture of where policymakers see interest rates going in 2022.Fed officials indicated last month that all 18 members predict at least one 25 basis point hike next year, with the median member forecasting three rate hikes before 2022 is over. The next FOMC meeting is scheduled to take place on Jan. 25 and 26.“What’s not changed is the focus on inflation, that’s the biggest risk,” Brigg Macadam founding partner Greg Swenson told Yahoo Finance Live, adding that the Fed changing its tone is “too little, too late.”“They are still, by most measures, quite dovish, even with the tapering of bond purchases and the market pricing in three hikes next year, you’ll still have dramatically negative real rates,” he said. “I wouldn’t call that a hawkish Fed — maybe their tone has changed a little bit and they have definitely stopped using the word ‘transitory,’ they have all but admitted that they missed inflation and underestimated it.”Although earnings season doesn’t fully commence until around mid-month, several notable off-cycle reports are due out this week, including ones from Jefferies, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Walgreens.CES, the Consumer Technology Association's iconic consumer electronics show will also take place from Jan. 5-7 in Las Vegas, but will end one day earlier than initially planned due to fast-spreading cases of COVID-19. The event may also have a light crowd, with some usual, big name attendees like Apple, Alphabet and Facebook's parent Meta dropping their plans to attend in-person under the circumstances.Economic calendarMonday: Markit US Manufacturing PMI, December final (57.7 estimated, 57.8 prior); Construction Spending, month over month, November (0.7% estimated, 0.2% prior month)Tuesday: ISM New Orders, December (61.5% prior month); ISM Prices Paid, December (79.3 estimated, 82.4 prior month); ISM Manufacturing, December (60.2 estimated, 61.1) prior month); ISM Employment, December (53.3 prior month); JOLTS job openings, November (11,033,000 prior month); WARDS Total Vehicle Sales, December (13,100,000 expected, 12,860,000 prior month)Wednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended Dec. 31 (-0.6% during prior week); ADP Employment Change, December (360,000 expected, 534,000 during prior month); Markit US Composite PMI, December final (56.9 prior month); Markit US Services PMI, December final (57.5 expected, 57.5 prior month); FOMC Meeting Minutes, December 15Thursday: Challenger Job Cuts, year over year, December (-77% prior); Trade Balance, November (-$74,000,000,000 expected, -$67,000,000,000); Initial Jobless Claims, week ended January 1 (199,000 expected, 198,000 during prior week) Continuing Claims, week ended January 1 (1,715,000 expected, 1,716,000 prior week); Langer Consumer Comfort, January 2 (47.9 prior); Factory Orders excluding transportation, November (1.6% prior); Factory Orders, November (1.5% expected, 1.0% prior) ISM Services Index, December (67.0 expected, 69.1 prior); Durable Goods Orders, November final (2.5% prior); Durable Goods Excluding Transportation, November final (0.8% prior); Capital Goods Orders Nondefense Excluding Aircrafts, November final (-0.1%); Capital Goods Shipments Nondefense Excluding Aircrafts, November final (0.3%)Friday: Revisions – Employment Report, Household Survey; Two-Month Payroll Net Revision, December (82,000 prior); Change in Nonfarm Payrolls, December (400,000 expected, 210,000 prior month); Change in Private Payrolls, December (370,000 expected, 235,000 prior month); Change in Manufacturing Payrolls, December (33,000 expected, 31,000 prior month); Unemployment Rate, December (4.1 expected, 4.3% prior); Average Hourly Earnings, month over month, December (0.4% expected, 0.3% prior month); Average Hourly Earnings, year over year (4.2% expected, 4.8% prior month); Average Weekly Hours All Employees, December (34.8 expected, 34.8 prior month); Labor Force Participation Rate, December (61.9% expected, 61.8% prior month); Underemployment Rate, December (7.8% prior month); Consumer Credit, November (22,500,000,000 expected, 16,897,000,000 prior month)Earnings calendarMonday: No notable reports scheduled for releaseTuesday: Jefferies Financial Group (JEF), MillerKnoll (MLKN) after market closeWednesday: Mullen Automotive Inc. were being warned that interest rates were ready to move meaningfully higher as inflation and the Federal Reserve were teaming up to end the massive low interest rate paradigm we have been stuck in for years. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, rates have dived lower, with the 10-year Treasury trading at a 1.32% yield, down from near 1.70% at the end of May. The benchmark 30-year Treasury bond is back at the 1.94% level. These are the lowest interest rate levels since last winter.
\n
For income investors, this is another setback in what has become over a ten-year problem. While rates certainly could rise again, one thing seems certain: the Federal Reserve will not raise rates until it is positive the economy is back at full strength. The only move the Fed looks poised to make in the near term is the beginning of the tapering of the $120 billion per month purchase of Treasury and mortgage debt.
\n
We screened the BofA Securities research universe looking for blue chip stocks rated Buy that paid at least a 4% dividend. We found five that are very appealing now to growth and income investors. While all are rated Buy, it is important to remember that no single analyst report should be used as a sole basis for any buying or selling decision.
\n
Altria
\n
This maker of tobacco products offers value investors a great entry point now and was hit recently as cigarette sales have slowed. Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO) is the parent company of Philip Morris USA (cigarettes), UST (smokeless), John Middleton (cigars), Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Philip Morris Capital. PMUSA enjoys a 51% share of the U.S. cigarette market, led by its top cigarette brand Marlboro.
\n
Altria also owns over 10% of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer. In March 2008, it spun off its international cigarette business to shareholders. In December 2018, the company acquired 35% of Juul Labs, and it has purchased a 45% stake in cannabis company Cronus for $1.8 billion.
\n
BofA Securities is very favorable toward the company’s plans for the future:
\n
\n Management presented at CAGNY (Consumer Analyst Group of New York) where it discussed a new corporate focus on ESG, additional details on its IQOS plans and its “Moving beyond smoking” 10-yr plan. Smokeables (cigarettes/cigars) will remain an important part of its strategy, providing funding behind its long-term growth and shareholder returns. Over the last 5-yrs, smokeable and other comprehensive income grew at a 5.5% compounded annual growth rate despite volume declines.\n
\n
Shareholders receive a 7.35% dividend. The analyst has a $58 target price on the shares, while the consensus target is lower at $53.89. Altria stock closed on Wednesday at $46.79 per share.
\n
Chevron
\n
This energy giant is a solid way for investors who are more conservative to be positioned in the sector. Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) is a U.S.-based integrated oil and gas company, with worldwide operations in exploration and production, refining and marketing, transportation and petrochemicals. The company sports a sizable dividend and has a solid place in the sector when it comes to natural gas and liquefied natural gas.
\n
With the strongest financial base of the majors, coupled with an attractive relative asset base, many on Wall Street feel that Chevron offers the most straightforwardly positive risk/reward. Although current conditions do not warrant a large focus on production growth, Chevron possesses numerous medium-term drivers (Noble integration, Permian, TCO/WPMP expansion, Gulf of Mexico exploration, Vaca Muerta, and so on) that should support production levels in the coming years.
\n
IBM
\n
This old-school tech giant still offers investors a very solid entry point. International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) is a leading provider of enterprise solutions, offering a broad portfolio of information technology (IT) hardware, business and IT services, and a full suite of software solutions.
\n
The company integrates its hardware products with its software and services offerings in order to provide high-value solutions. Analysts have cited the company’s potential in the public cloud as a reason for their positive outlook going forward.
\n
CEO Ginni Rommety, who had been in the position since 2012, stepped down in January, and the stock market greeted the news in a very positive manner. Arvind Krishna, who has led the company’s cloud computing business, became the new chief executive. Rometty will remain as executive board chair until the end of the year.
\n
Holders of IBM stock receive a 4.69% dividend. The $175 BofA Securities price target is well above the $144.14 consensus figure. The shares closed at $139.82 on Wednesday.
\n
Shareholders receive a 5.21% dividend, which analysts feel comfortable will remain at current levels. The BofA Securities price target is $125, which compares to a $122.48 consensus target and the last Chevron stock trade on Wednesday at $102.93 a share.
\n
LyondellBasell
\n
This top chemical company with a sterling balance sheet is another solid play for conservative investors. LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE: LYB) manufactures chemicals and polymers, refines crude oil, produces gasoline blending components and develops and licenses technologies for production of polymers.
\n
Over half of earnings are generated in the company’s Olefins and Polyolefins Americas segment, where costs are linked to the price of cheap natural gas in the United States, while selling prices are correlated with the price of oil. The company has pursued a strategy of low-cost, high return on invested capital debottlenecks coupled with cash returns to shareholders.
\n
Note that debottlenecking is the process of identifying specific areas or equipment in oil and gas facilities that limit the flow of product (known as bottlenecks) and optimizing them so that overall capacity in the plant can be increased.
\n
The company offers a 4.50% dividend. BofA Securities has set a $117 price target. The consensus target is $118.41, and LyondellBasell stock ended Wednesday at $100.40 a share.
","source":"lsy1620372341666","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Blue Chip Stocks to Buy With Huge Dividends as Interest Rates Plunge
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Blue Chip Stocks to Buy With Huge Dividends as Interest Rates Plunge\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-09 12:05 GMT+8 24/7 wall street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Just last month, we were being warned that interest rates were ready to move meaningfully higher as inflation and the Federal Reserve were teaming up to end the massive low interest rate paradigm we ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://247wallst.com/investing/2021/07/08/5-blue-chip-stocks-to-buy-with-huge-dividends-as-interest-rates-plunge/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1119741032","content_text":"Just last month, we were being warned that interest rates were ready to move meaningfully higher as inflation and the Federal Reserve were teaming up to end the massive low interest rate paradigm we have been stuck in for years. International benchmarkBrent cruderose 1.2%, or 93 cents, to $77.10 per barrel.\nDiscussions beganlast weekbetween OPEC and its allies, known as OPEC+, as the energy alliance sought to establish output policy for the remainder of the year. The group on Friday voted on a proposal that would have returned 400,000 barrels per day to the market each month from August through December, resulting in an additional 2 million barrels per day by the end of the year. Members also proposed extending the output cuts through the end of 2022.\nThe United Arab Emirates rejected these proposals, however, and talks stretched from Thursday to Friday as the group tried to reach a consensus. Initially, discussions were set to resume on Monday but were ultimately called off.\n“The date of the next meeting will be decided in due course,” OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said in a statement.\nOPEC+ took historic measures in April 2020 and removed nearly 10 million barrels per day of production in an effort to support prices as demand for petroleum-products plummeted. Since then, the group has been slowly returning barrels to the market, while meeting on a near monthly basis to discuss output policy.\n“For us, it wasn’t a good deal,” UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazroueitold CNBC on Sunday. He added that the country would support a short-term increase in supply, but wants better terms if the policy is to be extended through 2022.\nOil’s blistering rally this year — WTI has gained 57% during 2021 — meant that ahead of last week’s meeting many Wall Street analysts expected the group to boost production in an effort to curb the spike in prices.\n“With no increase in production, the forthcoming growth in demand should see global energy markets tighten up at an even faster pace than anticipated,” analysts at TD Securities wrote in a note to clients.\n“This impasse will lead to a temporary and significantly larger-than-anticipated deficit, which should fuel even higher prices for the time being. The summer breakout in oil prices is set to gather steam at a fast clip,” the firm added.\n— CNBC’s Sam Meredith contributed reporting.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":78,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":155525262,"gmtCreate":1625445863756,"gmtModify":1703741764085,"author":{"id":"3581499067319184","authorId":"3581499067319184","name":"cutewhale","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81c205ab77823c61fcc61515c7754ae0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Didi holder gonna hurt tonight","listText":"Didi holder gonna hurt tonight","text":"Didi holder gonna hurt tonight","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/155525262","repostId":"1169840279","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":126,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":152772871,"gmtCreate":1625361263393,"gmtModify":1703740674326,"author":{"id":"3581499067319184","authorId":"3581499067319184","name":"cutewhale","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81c205ab77823c61fcc61515c7754ae0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment thanks","listText":"Like and comment thanks","text":"Like and comment thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/152772871","repostId":"1188153141","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1188153141","pubTimestamp":1625276221,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1188153141?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-03 09:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Suze Orman worries about a market crash — here's what you should do","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1188153141","media":"MoneyWise","summary":"As stock markets continue setting records, fallout from COVID-19 continues to create problems for th","content":"
As stock markets continue setting records, fallout from COVID-19 continues to create problems for the economy.
\n
That clash has worried investing experts, including Suze Orman, who's gone so far as to say she’s now preparing for an inevitable market crash.
\n
And a famous measurement popularized by Warren Buffett — known as the Buffett Indicator — shows Orman might be onto something.
\n
Here’s an explanation of where the concern is coming from and some techniques you can use tokeep your investment portfolio growingeven if the market goes south.
\n
What does Suze Orman think?
\n
Mediapunch/Shutterstock
\n
Suze Orman has avidly watched the market for decades. She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.
\n
“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”
\n
While investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.
\n
And even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.
\n
What's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.
\n
“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.
\n
The Buffett Indicator
\n
Larry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock
\n
One metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.
\n
But the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.
\n
And those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.
\n
How to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock
\n
Orman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.
\n
1. Buy low
\n
Part of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.
\n
“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”
\n
She points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.
\n
Because you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.
\n
2. Invest on a schedule
\n
katjen / Shutterstock
\n
While she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.
\n
She wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.
\n
In fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.
\n
“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”
\n
She suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.
\n
This kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.
\n
There are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.
\n
3. Diversify with fractional shares
\n
To help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.
\n
Orman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.
\n
With the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.
\n
“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”
\n
“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”
\n
What else you can do
\n
goodluz / Shutterstock
\n
Whether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.
\n
First, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.
\n
Then, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.
\n
That will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.
\n
If you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.
\n
While everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.
","source":"lsy1621813427262","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; She knows ups and downs are to be expected, but what she’s seeing happen with investment fads like GameStop has her concerned.\n“I don’t like what I see happening in the market right now,” Orman said in a video for CNBC. “The economy has been horrible, but the stock market has been going.”\nWhile investing is as easy now asusing a smartphone app, Orman is concerned about where we can go from these record highs.\nAnd even with stimulus checks, which are still going out, and the real estate market breaking its own records last year, Orman worries about what will come with the coronavirus — especially as new variants continue to pop up.\nWhat's more, she feels it’s just been too long since the last crash to stay this high much longer.\n“This reminds me of 2000 all over again,” Orman says.\nThe Buffett Indicator\nLarry W Smith/EPA/Shutterstock\nOne metric Warren Buffett uses to assess the market so regularly that it’s been named after him has been flashing red for long enough that market watchers are starting to wonder if it’s an outdated tool.\nBut the Buffett Indicator, a measurement of the ratio of the stock market’s total value against U.S. economic output, continues to climb to previously unseen levels.\nAnd those in the know are wondering if it's a sign that we’re about to see a hard fall.\nHow to prepare for a crashFreedomz / Shutterstock\nOrman has three recommendations for setting up a simple investment strategy to help you successfully navigate any sharp turns in the market.\n1. Buy low\nPart of what upsets Orman so much about the furor over meme stocks like GameStop is it goes completely against the average investor’s interests.\n“All of you have your heads screwed on backwards,” she says. “All you want is for these markets to go up and up and up. What good is that going to do you?”\nShe points out the only extra money most people have goes towardinvesting for retirementin their 401(k) or IRA plans.\nBecause you probably don’t plan to touch that money for decades, the best long-term strategy is to buy low. That way, your dollar will go much further now, leaving plenty of room for growth over the next 20, 30 or 40 years.\n2. Invest on a schedule\nkatjen / Shutterstock\nWhile she prefers to buy low, Orman doesn’t recommend you stop investing completely when the market goes up.\nShe wants casual investors to not get caught up in the daily ups and downs of the market.\nIn fact, cheering for downturns now may be your best bet at getting a larger piece of very profitable investments — like some lucky investors were able to do back in 2007 and 2008.\n“When the market went down, down, down you could buy things at nothing,” says Orman. “And now look at them 15 years later.”\nShe suggests you set up a dollar-cost averaging strategy, which means you invest your money in equal portions at regular intervals, regardless of the market’s fluctuations.\nThis kind of approach is easy to implement with any of the many investing apps currently available to DIY investors.\nThere are even apps that willautomatically invest your spare changeby rounding up your debit and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.\n3. Diversify with fractional shares\nTo help weather dips in specific corners of the market, Orman suggests you diversify your investments — balance your portfolio with investments in many different types of assets and sectors of the economy.\nOrman particularly recommends fractional-share investing. This approach allows you to buy a slice of a share for a big-name company that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.\nWith the help of apopular stock-trading tool, anyone at any budget can afford the fractional share strategy.\n“The sooner you begin, the more money you will have,” says Orman. “Just don’t stop, and when these markets go down, you should be so happy because your dollars find more shares.”\n“And the more shares you have, the more money you’ll have 20, 40, 50 years from now.”\nWhat else you can do\ngoodluz / Shutterstock\nWhether or not a big crash is around the corner, investors who are still decades out from retirement can make that work for them, Orman said in theCNBC video.\nFirst, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Since the onset of the pandemic, Orman now recommends everyone have an emergency fund that can cover their expenses for a full year.\nThen, to set yourself up fora comfortable retirement, she suggests you opt for a Roth account, whether that’s a 401(k) or IRA.\nThat will help you avoid paying tax when you take money out of your retirement account because your contributions to a Roth account are made after tax. Traditional IRAs, on the other hand, aren’t taxed when you make contributions, so you’ll end up paying later.\nIf you find you need a little more guidance, working with aprofessional financial adviser, can help point you in the right direction so you can confidently ride out any market volatility.\nWhile everyone else is veering off course or overcorrecting, you’ll be firmly in the driver’s seat with your sunset years planned for.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":95,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":152156974,"gmtCreate":1625277592398,"gmtModify":1703739797704,"author":{"id":"3581499067319184","authorId":"3581499067319184","name":"cutewhale","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81c205ab77823c61fcc61515c7754ae0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like Average rose 14.41 points, or 0.04%, to 34,480.65, the S&P 500 gained 8.29 points, or 0.20%, to 4,247.47 and the Nasdaq Composite added 49.09 points, or 0.35%, to 14,069.42.\nAmong the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, healthcare suffered the biggest percentage drop.\nMuch of the trading volume this week was attributable to the ongoing social media-driven \"meme stock\" phenomenon, in which retail investors swarm around heavily shorted stocks.\nBut meme stock moves were more muted on Friday, with AMC Entertainment outperforming.\n(Reporting by Stephen Culp in New York Additional The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a gain of about 9 points after being up more than 100 points earlier in the session, closing at 34,292.29. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added about 0.2% for its own record of 14,528.33.\nHomebuilder stocks moved higher after S&P Case-Shiller saidhome prices rose more than 14% in Aprilcompared to the prior year. Five U.S. cities, including Seattle, saw their largest annual increase on record. Shares of PulteGroup rose 2%.\nSemiconductor stocks gained strength later in the session, with Skyworks and Advanced Micro Devices climbing 4.5% and 2.8%, respectively. General Electric boosted the industrials sector, rising over 1% afterGoldman Sachs named the stock a top idea.\nThe market has churned out a series of record highs in recent weeks, but the gains have been relatively modest and some strategists have pointed to weak market breadth, measured by the performance of the average stock and the number of individual names making new highs, as a potential area of concern.\nOn Tuesday, there were slightly more declining stocks in the S&P 500 than those that rose during the session.\nHowever, the diminished breadth and volatility could simply be a natural pause during the summer months ahead of the busy earnings season in July, said Bill McMahon, the chief investment officer for active equity strategies at Charles Schwab Investment Management.\n\"I think people are in a little bit of a wait-and-see mode, so it's not surprising to see volatility decline and breadth worsen a tad,\" McMahon said, adding that concern about the spreading Delta variant of Covid-19 could also be weighing on stocks.\nShares of Morgan Stanley jumped more than 3% after the bank said it willdouble its quarterly dividend. The bank also announced a $12 billion stock buyback program. The announcement follows last week's stress tests by the Federal Reserve, which all 23 major banks passed. However, some other bank stocks gave up early gains and weighed on the broader indexes despite increasing their own payout plans.\nThe Conference Board's consumer confidence reading for June came in higher than expected, adding to the bullish readings about the economic recovery.\nWith the market entering the final trading days of June and the second quarter, the S&P 500 is on track to register its fifth straight month of gains. The Nasdaq is pacing for its seventh positive month in the last eight. The Dow, however, is in the red for the month, and on track to snap a four-month winning streak.\nSo far in 2021, the S&P 500 has added 14%, while the Nasdaq has added more than 12% with the Dow close behind.\nJPMorgan quantitative strategist Dubravkos Lakos-Bujas said on CNBC's \"Squawk Box\" that the market appeared to have near-term upside.\n\"The growth policy backdrop in our opinion still remains supportive for risk assets in general, certainly including equities. At the same time, the positioning is not really stretched to where we are in a problematic territory. So we do think there is still a runway. ... The summer period, the next two months, is where I think the market continues to break out,\" the strategist said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":29,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":143482056,"gmtCreate":1625809363875,"gmtModify":1703749013465,"author":{"id":"3581499067319184","authorId":"3581499067319184","name":"cutewhale","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81c205ab77823c61fcc61515c7754ae0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/143482056","repostId":"1119741032","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":240,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581495146931772","authorId":"3581495146931772","name":"Ben01","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b158a0cc5a97dd1cf647bb3d21cf2c9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0},"content":"Like back please","text":"Like back please","html":"Like back please"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168536759,"gmtCreate":1623978330571,"gmtModify":1703825221778,"author":{"id":"3581499067319184","authorId":"3581499067319184","name":"cutewhale","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/81c205ab77823c61fcc61515c7754ae0","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like and comment","listText":"Please like and comment","text":"Please like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/168536759","repostId":"2144286417","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144286417","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623970062,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/2144286417?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-18 06:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Nasdaq closes up on tech stocks strength, as hawkish Fed limits S&P","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144286417","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 17 - Conviction in the strength of the economic recovery pushed investors into U.S. technology stocks on Thursday, driving the Nasdaq higher, although a post-Fed hangover left a subdued S&P nursing a very minor loss. The marginal decline was the S&P's third negative finish in a row, while the Dow - with a more pronounced drop - posted its fourth straight lower close. Many investors were still processing the Federal Reserve's unexpectedly hawkish message on monetary policy from the previous d","content":"
June 17 (Reuters) - Conviction in the strength of the economic recovery pushed investors into U.S. technology stocks on Thursday, driving the Nasdaq higher, although a post-Fed hangover left a subdued S&P nursing a very minor loss.
\n
The marginal decline was the S&P's third negative finish in a row, while the Dow - with a more pronounced drop - posted its fourth straight lower close.
\n
Many investors were still processing the Federal Reserve's unexpectedly hawkish message on monetary policy from the previous day, which projected the first post-pandemic interest rate hikes in 2023.
\n
Fed officials cited an improved economic outlook as the U.S. economy recovers quickly from the pandemic, with overall growth expected to hit 7% this year. With both stocks valued at 21 times 2025 earnings, which is a better buy today?\n
\n
At first glance, Apple (AAPL) -Get Report and Amazon (AMZN) -Get Report stocks appeal to two distinct group of investors. The former, trading at 26 times current earnings, is a blend of value and growth, what some might call a GARP play. The latter, trading at 64 times EPS, is the highest growth of FAAMG names.
\n
But the Amazon Maven has unearthed an interesting finding. Both AAPL and AMZN are worth almost the same, in P/E terms, if one were to look forward to 2025. At comparable valuations, which is a better buy-and-hold through the mid-2020s?
\n
AAPL and AMZN: same valuation?
\n
The P/E multiple is a popular valuation metric that adds context to a stock’s market price. The numerator tends to be prior-year (trailing), current-year or next-year (forward) earnings per share.
\n
Amazon commands a higher multiple, among other reasons, because of the company’s more aggressive growth profile. Wall Street expects the e-commerce giant to increase EPS by a factor of four in the next five years. Apple, on the other hand, is project to “only” double earnings in the same period.
\n
By 2025, this is what analysts expect of each company’s bottom line, and what the stock’s P/E would be if share prices remained unchanged:
\n
\n
Amazon: 2025 EPS of $172.30, for a P/E of20.4times
\n
Apple: fiscal 2025 EPS of $6.30, for a P/E of21.2times
\n
\n
Given enough time and assuming that current earnings projections are close enough to accurate, Amazon tends to become a less aggressively valued stock by the year. Maybe one day, in the not-too-distant future, shares could even start to look more appealing to value investors.
\n
Which is the best bet?
\n
If Amazon and Apple are valued at roughly the same 2025 P/E, one fair question to ask is: which stock might perform best in the next five years? I can use the earnings multiple as a guide to think through this question.
\n
From the P/E formula, one can derive the following: future stock price is determined by the company’s earnings delivered (the denominator “E”) and how much investors are willing to pay for those earnings (the valuation multiple). Therefore, in the Amazon vs. Apple race to 2025, whichever does best at delivering EPS above consensus and/or commanding a richer earnings multiple wins.
\n
Clearly, this is open for debate since the future in uncertain. But I believe that Amazon stock has a better chance of producing higher gains than Apple through 2025.
\n
First, I find it highly unlikely that AMZN’s earnings multiple will converge from the 60s of today to the low 20s in 2025. This would only be feasible if the company’s growth opportunities dried out quickly, which I am not counting on. On the other hand, Apple’s P/E is more likely to stay around 20 to 25 times, given the more mature profile of the company relative to Amazon.
\n
This is not to say that I expect Amazon’s P/E to expand from 64 times. The opposite is more likely to happen, as the company ages. But if the stock is valued at, say, 40 times EPS in 2025, Amazon would not even need to deliver results beyond expectations to see its stock price double in five years.
\n
Regarding consensus, I also think that Amazon can beat expectations by a wider margin than Apple could. The e-commerce giant has been more aggressive at investing back in the business. The green- and brown-field revenue growth opportunities in e-commerce and cloud seem better.
\n
In addition, Amazon’s margins could expand substantially (see five-year trend below), if or once the company’s online retail business gets closer to maturity. Apple could also improve its margin profile but probably much less so, given how profitable the company already is.
\n
Figure 2: AMZN gross margin vs. operating margin.
\n
Stock Rover
\n
Twitter speaks
\n
Fun fact: Amazon and Apple stock trade at roughly the same 2025 P/E (i.e. 2025 earnings in the denominator) of around 21 times, even though AMZN seems much more expensive at today’s valuations. Which do you think will produce more gains in the next five years?
\n

","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is Amazon Stock A Better Buy Than Apple Through 2025?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs Amazon Stock A Better Buy Than Apple Through 2025?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-24 19:23 GMT+8 The Street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Amazon shares may seem much pricier than Apple today, but the valuation gap should narrow over time. At comparable valuations, which is a better buy-and-hold through the mid-2020s?\nAAPL and AMZN: same valuation?\nThe P/E multiple is a popular valuation metric that adds context to a stock’s market price. The numerator tends to be prior-year (trailing), current-year or next-year (forward) earnings per share.\nAmazon commands a higher multiple, among other reasons, because of the company’s more aggressive growth profile. Wall Street expects the e-commerce giant to increase EPS by a factor of four in the next five years. Apple, on the other hand, is project to “only” double earnings in the same period.\nBy 2025, this is what analysts expect of each company’s bottom line, and what the stock’s P/E would be if share prices remained unchanged:\n\nAmazon: 2025 EPS of $172.30, for a P/E of20.4times\nApple: fiscal 2025 EPS of $6.30, for a P/E of21.2times\n\nGiven enough time and assuming that current earnings projections are close enough to accurate, Amazon tends to become a less aggressively valued stock by the year. Maybe one day, in the not-too-distant future, shares could even start to look more appealing to value investors.\nWhich is the best bet?\nIf Amazon and Apple are valued at roughly the same 2025 P/E, one fair question to ask is: which stock might perform best in the next five years? I can use the earnings multiple as a guide to think through this question.\nFrom the P/E formula, one can derive the following: future stock price is determined by the company’s earnings delivered (the denominator “E”) and how much investors are willing to pay for those earnings (the valuation multiple). Therefore, in the Amazon vs. Apple race to 2025, whichever does best at delivering EPS above consensus and/or commanding a richer earnings multiple wins.\nClearly, this is open for debate since the future in uncertain. But I believe that Amazon stock has a better chance of producing higher gains than Apple through 2025.\nFirst, I find it highly unlikely that AMZN’s earnings multiple will converge from the 60s of today to the low 20s in 2025. This would only be feasible if the company’s growth opportunities dried out quickly, which I am not counting on. On the other hand, Apple’s P/E is more likely to stay around 20 to 25 times, given the more mature profile of the company relative to Amazon.\nThis is not to say that I expect Amazon’s P/E to expand from 64 times. The opposite is more likely to happen, as the company ages. But if the stock is valued at, say, 40 times EPS in 2025, Amazon would not even need to deliver results beyond expectations to see its stock price double in five years.\nRegarding consensus, I also think that Amazon can beat expectations by a wider margin than Apple could. The e-commerce giant has been more aggressive at investing back in the business. The green- and brown-field revenue growth opportunities in e-commerce and cloud seem better.\nIn addition, Amazon’s margins could expand substantially (see five-year trend below), if or once the company’s online retail business gets closer to maturity. Apple could also improve its margin profile but probably much less so, given how profitable the company already is.\nFigure 2: AMZN gross margin vs. operating margin.\nStock Rover\nTwitter speaks\nFun fact: Amazon and Apple stock trade at roughly the same 2025 P/E (i.e. 2025 earnings in the denominator) of around 21 times, even though AMZN seems much more expensive at today’s valuations.
