If $1,000 is that mark for you, these two Warren Buffett-backed stocks could provide the foundation you want for your long-term investment strategy.

AbbVie ( ABBV 0.66% ) and Verizon Communications ( VZ 0.55% ) offer innovative products in growing markets, combined with a strategy that withstands market volatility, to reward investors with long-term gains. They also carry a special characteristic that is shared by 63% of the stocks owned by Buffett in his Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A 1.92% ) ( BRK.B 1.81% ) portfolio.

AbbVie: Building a pipeline to keep revenue flowing

AbbVie is one of the smallest holdings in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio, at only 0.1% of the portfolio's total holdings. But that's the only thing small about this leading innovator in biopharmaceuticals that has seen its stock price grow 53% over the past year -- crushing the S&P 500's 14.7% one-year return.

AbbVie has experienced strong growth of its best-selling drug, Humira, which helped the company realize a 22.7% increase in net revenue in 2021. That growth is expected to continue with an 8% increase in sales for Humira during 2022, but could come to a screeching slowdown in 2023. The company estimates a 45% erosion in sales as a result of biosimilar competition entering the U.S. market on the heels of an expiring patent, with a rebound not expected to happen until 2024.

To offset those losses, the company is depending on a spike in sales of two potential successors to Humira, Rinvoq and Skyrizi. Together these two medications brought in a combined $4.5 billion in 2021 and are expected to reach $15 billion in 2025. AbbVie is also seeing positive results from its Allergan acquisition in 2020, which netted the company Botox, contributing nearly $5 billion to total sales in 2021.

Going forward, the company has high expectations for a post-COVID rebound in sales of two leading cancer treatment drugs, as well as a pipeline of late-stage programs in cancer treatment. In total, the company has 13 drugs in phase 3 trials across immunology, neuroscience, eye care, oncology, and gastroenterology. Some of these drugs are already approved for certain indications, which could lead to a smoother path toward approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

AbbVie also offers a quarterly dividend that can help keep investors engaged during times of trouble. If you include the time before AbbVie was spun off from Abbott Laboratories, the company has been increasing its annual dividend for 50 years, placing it among the elite class of Dividend Kings. At the current share price, the stock's annual payout of $5.64 per share results in yield of 3.5%. Over the long term, this can be quite a hefty sum due to compounding gains.

A robust pipeline of drugs combined with a hefty dividend yield of 3.5% that leads most of its big-cap pharma peers makes AbbVie a Buffett-backed stock I'd see no problem investing $1,000 in.

Verizon: Checking off boxes to keep investors satisfied

Verizon ranks ninth in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio of 47 stocks in terms of portfolio holding and total value. But the company's investors have not been exempt from the broader market volatility that has impacted tech stocks, as Verizon's stock price has seen a 15% decline since May of last year.

Fortunately, CEO Hans Vestberg, who came on board in 2018 after a stint as chief technology officer, has a clear plan in place that could trigger a rebound. It includes reducing the company's capital intensity to under 12%, growing dividends, paying down debt, and speeding up a timeline for share repurchases.

Boxes are already being checked off for that plan. Verizon's Q4 report highlighted a 6.5% year-over-year growth in wireless services revenue, driven by higher revenue per account, meaning existing customers are spending more. Growth is also coming from an increase in subscriptions for wireless and broadband. FiOS (its bundled service for internet, cable, and telephone) finished Q4 of last year with a 5.7% year-over-year spike in revenue, allowing the company to post its best full-year performance for FiOS since 2014.

The company expects to check off a few more boxes during 2022, starting with a continued quarterly dividend payout of $0.64 per share, to be paid on May 2 to investors of record on April 8. This represents a 5% dividend yield, topping the telecom sector average of 4.36%.

By year-end, the company is looking to complete an accelerated plan to bring 5G ultra wideband service to an additional 30 major markets serving over 175 million people -- a full year ahead of schedule. And while doing so, Vestberg has his eyes on reducing capital expenditures 9% to $16.5 billion.

If 2022 goes according to plan, the company is projecting full-year earnings per share that just slightly tops Wall Street estimates. Management is also looking for 9% to 10% growth in services revenue. Ultimately, Verizon's technological advancements should lead to new revenue, supported by acquisitions in the telecom space and collaborations with companies such as Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) as the two work toward building out the immersive digital world referred to as the metaverse.

Verizon investors should stand to gain from continued dividends and a wireless market that is projected to grow at a 15.4% compound annual rate through 2027. The company's shares currently trade at a P/E ratio of 9.6, far below the wireless telecom industry average of 30. If $1,000 is that mark for you, these two Warren Buffett-backed stocks could provide the foundation you want for your long-term investment strategy.AbbVie ( ABBV 0.66% ) and Verizon Communications ( VZ 0.55% ) offer innovative products in growing markets, combined with a strategy that withstands market volatility, to reward investors with long-term gains. They also carry a special characteristic that is shared by 63% of the stocks owned by Buffett in his Berkshire Hathaway ( BRK.A 1.92% ) ( BRK.B 1.81% ) portfolio.Image source: Getty Images.AbbVie: Building a pipeline to keep revenue flowingAbbVie is one of the smallest holdings in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio, at only 0.1% of the portfolio's total holdings. But that's the only thing small about this leading innovator in biopharmaceuticals that has seen its stock price grow 53% over the past year -- crushing the S&P 500's 14.7% one-year return.AbbVie has experienced strong growth of its best-selling drug, Humira, which helped the company realize a 22.7% increase in net revenue in 2021. That growth is expected to continue with an 8% increase in sales for Humira during 2022, but could come to a screeching slowdown in 2023. The company estimates a 45% erosion in sales as a result of biosimilar competition entering the U.S. market on the heels of an expiring patent, with a rebound not expected to happen until 2024.To offset those losses, the company is depending on a spike in sales of two potential successors to Humira, Rinvoq and Skyrizi. Together these two medications brought in a combined $4.5 billion in 2021 and are expected to reach $15 billion in 2025. AbbVie is also seeing positive results from its Allergan acquisition in 2020, which netted the company Botox, contributing nearly $5 billion to total sales in 2021.Going forward, the company has high expectations for a post-COVID rebound in sales of two leading cancer treatment drugs, as well as a pipeline of late-stage programs in cancer treatment. In total, the company has 13 drugs in phase 3 trials across immunology, neuroscience, eye care, oncology, and gastroenterology. Some of these drugs are already approved for certain indications, which could lead to a smoother path toward approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.AbbVie also offers a quarterly dividend that can help keep investors engaged during times of trouble. If you include the time before AbbVie was spun off from Abbott Laboratories, the company has been increasing its annual dividend for 50 years, placing it among the elite class of Dividend Kings. At the current share price, the stock's annual payout of $5.64 per share results in yield of 3.5%. Over the long term, this can be quite a hefty sum due to compounding gains.A robust pipeline of drugs combined with a hefty dividend yield of 3.5% that leads most of its big-cap pharma peers makes AbbVie a Buffett-backed stock I'd see no problem investing $1,000 in.Verizon: Checking off boxes to keep investors satisfiedVerizon ranks ninth in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio of 47 stocks in terms of portfolio holding and total value. But the company's investors have not been exempt from the broader market volatility that has impacted tech stocks, as Verizon's stock price has seen a 15% decline since May of last year.Fortunately, CEO Hans Vestberg, who came on board in 2018 after a stint as chief technology officer, has a clear plan in place that could trigger a rebound. It includes reducing the company's capital intensity to under 12%, growing dividends, paying down debt, and speeding up a timeline for share repurchases.Boxes are already being checked off for that plan. Verizon's Q4 report highlighted a 6.5% year-over-year growth in wireless services revenue, driven by higher revenue per account, meaning existing customers are spending more. Growth is also coming from an increase in subscriptions for wireless and broadband. FiOS (its bundled service for internet, cable, and telephone) finished Q4 of last year with a 5.7% year-over-year spike in revenue, allowing the company to post its best full-year performance for FiOS since 2014.The company expects to check off a few more boxes during 2022, starting with a continued quarterly dividend payout of $0.64 per share, to be paid on May 2 to investors of record on April 8. This represents a 5% dividend yield, topping the telecom sector average of 4.36%.By year-end, the company is looking to complete an accelerated plan to bring 5G ultra wideband service to an additional 30 major markets serving over 175 million people -- a full year ahead of schedule. Ultimately, Verizon's technological advancements should lead to new revenue, supported by acquisitions in the telecom space and collaborations with companies such as Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) as the two work toward building out the immersive digital world referred to as the metaverse.Verizon investors should stand to gain from continued dividends and a wireless market that is projected to grow at a 15.4% compound annual rate through 2027. The company's shares currently trade at a P/E ratio of 9.6, far below the wireless telecom industry average of 30. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk followed through on his promise to dance as he did when Tesla opened its Shanghai factory two years ago.

The 5 billion-euro ($5.5 billion) facility -- first announced in late 2019 -- will boost Tesla’s capacity to make electric sport utility vehicles as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drives up fuel costs and adds momentum to already-soaring EV demand. The question for Musk, 50, is how quickly the company can ramp up output in the midst of industrywide supply chain challenges, including shortages of semiconductors and battery metals.

“The start of production is nice, but volume production is the hard part,” Musk said during a visit to the plant construction site in October. He said then that Tesla would target making 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles a week by the end of this year.

Tesla’s plant in Gruenheide is essential to Musk capturing more of Europe’s expanding EV market. He tweeted last week that he was working on a new “master plan” for the carmaker and wrote Monday that “scaling to extreme size” would be a main subject.

The start of Model Y deliveries at the factory is the culmination of a surprise announcement Musk made while accepting an award more than two years ago at an event attended by the heads of BMW AG, Volkswagen AG and Audi. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk followed through on his promise to dance as he did when Tesla opened its Shanghai factory two years ago.The 5 billion-euro ($5.5 billion) facility -- first announced in late 2019 -- will boost Tesla’s capacity to make electric sport utility vehicles as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drives up fuel costs and adds momentum to already-soaring EV demand. The question for Musk, 50, is how quickly the company can ramp up output in the midst of industrywide supply chain challenges, including shortages of semiconductors and battery metals.“The start of production is nice, but volume production is the hard part,” Musk said during a visit to the plant construction site in October. He said then that Tesla would target making 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles a week by the end of this year.Tesla’s plant in Gruenheide is essential to Musk capturing more of Europe’s expanding EV market. Vehicles are now rolling off the production line in Germany’s automotive heartland, where Tesla has hired more than 3,000 workers. That number is set to grow by a few thousand over the coming months, Tesla said in an emailed statement. The company expects to eventually employ 12,000 people once full vehicle production is underway alongside a 50 gigawatt-hour battery-making operation.“We have to get behind progress that’s driving new technologies, because that’s how we’ll get new jobs,” Scholz said in remarks prepared for a speech at the facility.Although Tesla moved quickly to construct the facility, it was beset by months-long permitting delays that at times exasperated the world’s richest person.Concerns at the site centered around its environmental impact, with activists opposing the tree-clearing that preceded construction and the effects the facility will have on wildlife and the water supply. Revenue hit 7.21 billion, beating the forecasts by $480 million. EPS of $11.29 came in ahead of the consensus estimate by $1.68.In further good news, the company raised its outlook for the sales of its Covid-19 vaccine in 2022. Moderna now anticipates sales of at least $19 billion, $2 billion above its prior estimate. But investors had more to be pleased about. The company also announced a $3 billion share buyback program.Morgan Stanley’s Matthew Harrison counts this development along with the strong guidance as the reasons behind investors’ positive response. That said, the analyst sees the Covid opportunity as having mostly played out already and believes the pipeline’s development is key here.“While we believe there is long-term upside for Moderna, we believe the significant valuation increase associated with the success of the COVID-19 vaccine limits the near-term upside,” the 5-star analyst said. “We continue to see flu, rare diseases and cancer vaccines as the key data events for 2022.”A Phase 3 study has already been launched for a vaccine targeting respiratory syncytial virus while a Phase 2 study of a flu vaccine is now fully enrolled. A Phase 3 study for a flu vaccine is also expected to kick off this year. For now, Harrison remains on the sidelines, sticking with an Equalweight (i.e., Hold) rating. But Harrison might as well have said “buy” — because his price target, currently at $213, could deliver 33% profits to new investors. It’s a similar story amongst Harrison’s colleagues. The stock boasts a Hold consensus rating based on 9 Holds, 4 Buys and 1 Sell. However, the forecast calls for 12-month returns of 64%, given the average price target clocks in at $248.3. It’s been a year where ‘ESG’ and ‘Quant’ remain key structural trends in the investment community. And it’s been a year that has seen an almost constant, running debate over the outlook for growth and inflation. Commodities, it just so happens, find themselves at the center of all these stories.
\n
Let’s start with the challenging year. The casual observer could be forgiven for thinking that 2021 has been a walk in the park, with global equities returning 16% through September 1, with historically low volatility.
\n
But under the surface, it’s been hard. It’s been hard in a ‘good’ market like US equities, where major rotations have led to sharp swings in relative performance (US small caps rose +20% through mid-March, and are lower since). And it’s been hard in global equities, where MSCI China has fallen 26% since February 14, while MSCI Europe is up 14% over the same period. Many active managers are lagging their benchmarks.
\n
Yet quantitatively, it may be an even harder year in rates and FX. We run a Cross-Asset Systematic Trading tool, or CAST, which aims to identify what factors matter for cross-asset performance, and systematically invest based on how those factors look at a given moment. CAST asks “if I do what has historically worked in the market, given current information, what should I do?”.
\n
Year-to-date, following these historical patterns has led to poorer outcomes in interest rates and FX compared with all other asset classes. Where have historical patterns done better? Commodities. A lot better.
\n
Investing systematically based on attractive factors (carry, momentum, valuation, supportive fundamentals) has been working better in commodities than any other asset class (credit is second). Why? We have a few theories:
\n
\n

Natural inefficiencies in the commodity market create risk premium.

\n

The tendency of commodities to move in longer cycles means that momentum is more effective.

\n

Central banks aren’t intervening in these markets (and investor flows have been more muted), allowing more ‘normal’ dynamics to play out.

\n
\n
Given the prominence of quant and systematic investing as themes in investment management, this is pretty important. To the extent one can, go where these types of strategies are working.
\n
Commodities also tie into a second big investment theme, ESG. The underlying reality and seriousness of climate change remains constant, and indeed, looks even more pressing following the release from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Yet while ESG-linked equities have seen pronounced swings in 2021, commodity markets have delivered a far more consistent message.
\n
The price for EU Carbon emissions, for example (MO1 Comdty), has risen 88% year-to-date. My colleague Robert Pulleyn has been bullish on the belief that a higher price on emissions is essential to meet the EU’s climate goals. Near term, he sees the risk of a decline given recent gains, before prices resume their upward trend toward €102/ton by 2027 (see Utilities: Carbon: Softness Risk Ahead? Before Upwards March Resumes, August 9, 2021).
\n
Wait, you might say. If commodity markets are so focused on the realities of climate change, why are oil prices higher this year, not lower? Again, we think the market is actually pretty rational. Shareholder pressure and the threat of future EV adoption is causing oil producers to dramatically reduce their capex plans, a development that my colleague Martijn Rats believes will help limit supply and keep prices elevated (see Podcast | Thoughts on the Market: The Curious Case of Norway, EVs and Oil, September 2, 2021).
\n
ESG and systematic investing are major industry themes. 2021 being harder than the headline indices suggest is something we’re all aware of. But the biggest story of the year is the debate around growth and inflation. It’s been a year where ‘ESG’ and ‘Quant’ remain key structural trends in the investment community. And it’s been a year that has seen an almost constant, running debate over the outlook for growth and inflation. Commodities, it just so happens, find themselves at the center of all these stories.\nLet’s start with the challenging year. The casual observer could be forgiven for thinking that 2021 has been a walk in the park, with global equities returning 16% through September 1, with historically low volatility.\nBut under the surface, it’s been hard. Many active managers are lagging their benchmarks.\nYet quantitatively, it may be an even harder year in rates and FX. We run a Cross-Asset Systematic Trading tool, or CAST, which aims to identify what factors matter for cross-asset performance, and systematically invest based on how those factors look at a given moment. CAST asks “if I do what has historically worked in the market, given current information, what should I do?”.\nYear-to-date, following these historical patterns has led to poorer outcomes in interest rates and FX compared with all other asset classes. Where have historical patterns done better? Commodities. A lot better.\nInvesting systematically based on attractive factors (carry, momentum, valuation, supportive fundamentals) has been working better in commodities than any other asset class (credit is second). Why? We have a few theories:\n\nNatural inefficiencies in the commodity market create risk premium.\nThe tendency of commodities to move in longer cycles means that momentum is more effective.\nCentral banks aren’t intervening in these markets (and investor flows have been more muted), allowing more ‘normal’ dynamics to play out.\n\nGiven the prominence of quant and systematic investing as themes in investment management, this is pretty important. To the extent one can, go where these types of strategies are working.\nCommodities also tie into a second big investment theme, ESG. The underlying reality and seriousness of climate change remains constant, and indeed, looks even more pressing following the release from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Yet while ESG-linked equities have seen pronounced swings in 2021, commodity markets have delivered a far more consistent message.\nThe price for EU Carbon emissions, for example (MO1 Comdty), has risen 88% year-to-date. Before Upwards March Resumes, August 9, 2021).\nWait, you might say. If commodity markets are so focused on the realities of climate change, why are oil prices higher this year, not lower? Again, we think the market is actually pretty rational. Shareholder pressure and the threat of future EV adoption is causing oil producers to dramatically reduce their capex plans, a development that my colleague Martijn Rats believes will help limit supply and keep prices elevated (see Podcast | Thoughts on the Market: The Curious Case of Norway, EVs and Oil, September 2, 2021).\nESG and systematic investing are major industry themes. 2021 being harder than the headline indices suggest is something we’re all aware of. But the biggest story of the year is the debate around growth and inflation. What, it seems fair to say, do commodities have to say about that?\nWhile commodity prices are often synonymous with inflation, our forecasts suggest they’ll now play a smaller role. The biggest downside risk to prices is likely to come from core goods (where demand has been well-above trend), while the biggest risk to the upside is likely to come from rental growth (which is a large share of the basket, and strong). Nonetheless, recent stabilization in commodity prices should reinforce the transitory nature of headline inflation, which our economists expect to moderate into mid-2022.\nOn the growth debate, however, commodities are front and center. Our economists see a 3Q slowdown in both the US and China(but not Europe, which is a story for another time). Copper prices and the CRB RIND index, two key harbingers of cyclical strength, remain high, consistent with a view that this economic weakness will be temporary.\n\nWe’ll be watching the resilience of these indicators as August data, reported in September, may look poor, and test the market's resolve.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9030476193,"gmtCreate":1645799951597,"gmtModify":1676534065491,"author":{"id":"3581742924827239","authorId":"3581742924827239","name":"JiaocyTi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c16d760078e396b46033bc97afede0c8","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581742924827239","authorIdStr":"3581742924827239"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"123","listText":"123","text":"123","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9030476193","repostId":"1168492331","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1168492331","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1645799536,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1168492331?lang=&edition=full_marsco","pubTime":"2022-02-25 22:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Etsy Stock Soared 11% in Morning Trading after Posting Holiday Quarter Results Ahead of Expectations","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1168492331","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Etsy Stock Soared 11% in Morning Trading after Posting Holiday Quarter Results Ahead of Expectations","content":"

Etsy Stock Soared 11% in Morning Trading after Posting Holiday Quarter Results Ahead of Expectations.Etsy pops after cruising past consensus marks with its Q4 earnings report.

Consolidated gross merchandise sales were up 16.5% to $4.2B against the tough pandemic comparable, while Etsy marketplace GMS was up 11.8% to $2.8B.

GMS per active buyer on a trailing twelve-month basis was up 16% Y/Y to $136.

The online retailer said the Etsy marketplace acquired approximately 10M new buyers in the quarter to mark the highest level of new buyer acquisition since Q4 of 2020.

Looking ahead, Etsy (ETSY) guided for Q1 revenue of $565M to $590M vs. $630M consensus.

The 52-week trading range for Etsy (ETSY) is $109.38 to $307.75.
