Combined, Arm and Nvidia could become&nbsp;a formidable rival of&nbsp;Intel(INTC).</p>\n<p>At the Six Five Summit Thursday, Arm CEO Simon Segars&nbsp;made the case&nbsp;that if it stays independent, Arm wouldn’t be able to keep up with the increasing demands of its customers for more complex chips that can perform a wider variety of functions.</p>\n<p>“As I think of in the future, the range of products our licensees want to build is growing and growing,” Segars said. “What they’re asking from us is increasing and increasing because of the complexity going up, and there is no way that we can do that on our own.”</p>\n<p>Beyond supporting Arm at a larger scale, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the acquisition is an opportunity to create a company that can generate even more new ideas, and bring more innovation to its customers in the form of intellectual property.</p>\n<p>“The benefit to the market, and to the Arm customers will be more IP, better IP, more accelerated road maps and hopefully taking Arm to the far reaches of what is becoming …the diversity of computing that is literally going in every single direction,” Huang said. “You’re covering from cloud, to edge, to [internet of things], to high performance computing, to microprocessors, to accelerated computing—everything.”</p>\n<p>Not everyone agrees that the deal is a good idea. Incoming Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has said that Arm’s ecosystem of processor technology is powerful because it is open. Arm has long been willing to license its architecture to anyone because it only makes the blueprints for the technology, and doesn’t design or fabricate chips itself.</p>\n<p>“Arm already won, and won everywhere,” Amon&nbsp;has said, referring to Arm-based chips powering almost every smartphone. “After the battle is won because of its independence, to say, ‘let’s make it better by taking that away’, doesn’t make any sense.”</p>\n<p>There&nbsp;have been reports&nbsp;of other tech companies such as Alphabet (GOOGL), and&nbsp;Microsoft(MSFT) urging regulators to intervene. Nvidia announced its&nbsp;plan to buy Arm last year, and said the deal would close in 2022. Nvidia finance chief Colette Kress has said the deal is on track.</p>\n<p>Nvidia shares rallied in Thursday trading. The stock closed up 4.8% at $746.29 after Jefferies analyst Mark Lipacis raised his target for the stock price to $854 from $740, and reiterated his Buy rating.</p>\n<p>Also Thursday, Alphabet’s Google Cloud&nbsp;said that it had selected&nbsp;Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) chips to power a new virtual-machine product it is adding to its cloud-computing offerings. Thursday, the CEOs of both companies tried again to sell the deal as positive for the industry.\nNvidia (ticker: NVDA) has a lot of people to convince. To go through, the deal needs regulatory approval from the U.S., European Union, U.K., and China. Opposition from other semiconductor companies, and elsewhere in the tech sector, has been mounting for months. Combined, Arm and Nvidia could become a formidable rival of Intel(INTC).\nAt the Six Five Summit Thursday, Arm CEO Simon Segars made the case that if it stays independent, Arm wouldn’t be able to keep up with the increasing demands of its customers for more complex chips that can perform a wider variety of functions.\n“As I think of in the future, the range of products our licensees want to build is growing and growing,” Segars said. “What they’re asking from us is increasing and increasing because of the complexity going up, and there is no way that we can do that on our own.”\nBeyond supporting Arm at a larger scale, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the acquisition is an opportunity to create a company that can generate even more new ideas, and bring more innovation to its customers in the form of intellectual property.\n“The benefit to the market, and to the Arm customers will be more IP, better IP, more accelerated road maps and hopefully taking Arm to the far reaches of what is becoming …the diversity of computing that is literally going in every single direction,” Huang said. “You’re covering from cloud, to edge, to [internet of things], to high performance computing, to microprocessors, to accelerated computing—everything.”\nNot everyone agrees that the deal is a good idea. Incoming Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has said that Arm’s ecosystem of processor technology is powerful because it is open. Arm has long been willing to license its architecture to anyone because it only makes the blueprints for the technology, and doesn’t design or fabricate chips itself.\n“Arm already won, and won everywhere,” Amon has said, referring to Arm-based chips powering almost every smartphone. “After the battle is won because of its independence, to say, ‘let’s make it better by taking that away’, doesn’t make any sense.”\nThere have been reports of other tech companies such as Alphabet (GOOGL), and Microsoft(MSFT) urging regulators to intervene. Will the FAAMG group finally rebound?</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3bce1e839677a495a20253020579c1fc\" tg-width=\"1200\" tg-height=\"675\"><span>Figure 1: The FAAMG group.</span></p>\n<p><b>Performance in 2021: sleepy</b></p>\n<p>The chart below shows how far behind Amazon has fallen compared to the S&amp;P 500, the industrials-rich Dow and, even more so, the small-cap Russell 2000 index. The 4% return in nearly six months is three to four times worse than the stock’s average performance since the 1997 IPO.</p>\n<p>To be fair, the weakness experienced this year needs to be put within the context of the past 18 months. The 2020 pandemic accelerated trends in online shopping and cloud adoption, both of which are highly bullish for Amazon. Last year, AMZN returned nearly 80%, four times as much as the S&amp;P 500. Now, shares seem to be taking a timeout.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c3fca6462af9a8940aae7f7a84a91702\" tg-width=\"994\" tg-height=\"497\"><span>Figure 2: AMZN vs. S&amp;P 500, DJIA and Russell 2000.</span></p>\n<p><b>The key is probably macroeconomics</b></p>\n<p>A CNBC panel has recently had an interesting&nbsp;conversation&nbsp;about Amazon stock. Fair points were made about business fundamentals and valuations:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Amazon’s share of US e-commerce flirted with 40% in 2020, an impressive number;</li>\n <li>Amazon should surpass Walmart as the largest US retailer next year;</li>\n <li>Only 15% of the workloads are in the cloud – a growth opportunity for Amazon Web Services;</li>\n <li>The MGM deal should attract attention, traffic and purchases to the Amazon ecosystem;</li>\n <li>On the bearish side, P/E is still high, maybe even relative to earnings growth potential.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>But in the end, probably none of the above will mater to Amazon stock and the FAAMG group in the foreseeable future. The single most important variable that will likely determine what happens to tech growth for the rest of the year, in my view, is the macroeconomic landscape.</p>\n<p>There is little doubt that the global (and the US, even more so) economies are on a path to recovery. This should be good news for companies and stocks across the board. The question is whether post-pandemic growth will push inflation and interest rates much higher than where they currently are.</p>\n<p>If so, AMZN and FAAMG in general are likely to continue underperforming. This is the case because faster-growing companies rely on long-term earnings and cash flow to support their stock prices. When inflation and yields are high, financial results that are expected to be delivered far out in the future are discounted more heavily to present value.</p>\n<p>For these reasons, pay attention to inflation data and the Federal Reserve’s decisions around monetary policy – the next chapter will play out on Wednesday, June 16. Here are topics that investors are focused on:</p>\n<p><b>TALKING ABOUT TALKING ABOUT A TAPER</b></p>\n<p>The Fed is keen to minimize the possibility of a market disruption when it begins to reduce its $120 billion per month government bond and mortgage-backed securities purchase program, and so far has only indicated it may soon start \"talking about talking\" about reducing it.</p>\n<p>Market participants will be focused on whether this has advanced in any way, with a reduction in bond purchases expected to be the first step in the Fed’s normalizing its ultra-loose monetary policies.</p>\n<p>Signs that the Fed may taper sooner than expected could spark a bond market sell-off, which could hurt risk appetite and send stocks lower.</p>\n<p>Many analysts think the Fed will hold off on any announcement on bond reductions until its Jackson Hole economic symposium in August, with the taper unlikely to occur until late this year or early next year. Some market participants, however, are worried there are dangers in waiting as inflation prints come in strong.</p>\n<p><b>IS INFLATION BECOMING ENTRENCHED?</b></p>\n<p>Inflation has been coming in well above the Fed’s 2% target as the economy reopens and investors will be watching for signs that policymakers are uncomfortable with the recent increases.</p>\n<p>Data last week showed that consumer prices in May registered the largest annual increase in 13 years, with a 5% gain.</p>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury market showed little concern about the data, however, with yields falling to three-month lows. Ten-year yields were at 1.46% on Monday and have fallen from a <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a>-year high of 1.78% in March.</p>\n<p>Fed Chair Jerome Powell said after the U.S. central bank’s April meeting that transitory increases in inflation expected this year would not meet its standard for raising interest rates.</p>\n<p><b>WILL THE DOT PLOT SHOW AN EXPECTED RATE HIKE IN 2023?</b></p>\n<p>Market participants will focus on when policymakers see an increase in rates, a section of the Fed's economic projections known as the “dot plot.”</p>\n<p>Seven of 18 officials expected to raise rates in 2023 at the Fed’s March meeting, compared with five in December. Four officials also felt rates may need to rise as soon as next year, a change from zero as of the last projections in December.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, any increase in inflation projections for 2022 and 2023 may indicate that the Fed sees inflation increases being more persistent than previously expected.</p>\n<p><b>AS REVERSE REPO VOLUMES HIT RECORDS, WILL THEY RAISE 'IOER'?</b></p>\n<p>Another key focus will be whether the Fed will address disruptions in cash markets by raising the interest it pays banks on excess reserves and the rate it pays on overnight reverse repos.</p>\n<p>Money market investors are struggling with a lack of high quality short-dated assets as the Treasury reduces bill issuance at the same time as banks are struggling with excess deposits, in large part from Fed bond purchases.</p>\n<p>The Fed’s reverse repo facility, which offers approved money managers the option to lend money to the Fed overnight in return for Treasury collateral, has seen increasing demand and set a record $584 billion on Monday. Demand is expected to continue growing as the Treasury continues paring issuance of Treasury bills and the debt ceiling nears.</p>\n<p>By raising the IOER, the Fed can ease some downward pressure on short-term rates. Some analysts say the Fed is unlikely to make any adjustments unless the fed funds rate falls below 5 basis points, a level it has so far held above. Great news,\" tweeted \"Rich Dad, Poor Dad\" author Robert Kiyosaki on Sunday , saying it provides a good buying opportunity. \"When price hits $27,000 I may start buying again. Lot will depend upon global-macro environment. Remember the problem is not gold, silver, or Bitcoin. Problem are the incompetents in government, Fed &amp; Wall Street. Remember gold was $300 in 2000.\"</p><p>In April, Kiyosaki predicted in an interview  that bitcoin's price would top $1 million in the next five years. purpose acquisition company (SPAC) - the latest in a torrent of technology businesses to list on New York exchanges through such a route in recent months.</p>\n<p>A US banking source said on Friday that the discussions between MapBox and SVF Investment Corp. 3 were at an advanced stage, but cautioned that a definitive transaction could still fall apart.</p>\n<p>Investment banks including Cantor Fitzgerald, Citi, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and UBS are all understood to be involved in the deal.</p>\n<p>Although Mapbox would be far from unusual in choosing a SPAC to launch its tenure as a publicly traded company, the transaction would be unusual in that SoftBank is already a shareholder in the company through its vast Vision Fund.</p>\n<p>Mapbox, which was founded in 2010, announced in 2017 that SoftBank had led a $164m Series C funding round without disclosing its valuation.</p>\n<p>It was unclear on Friday how much new capital the merger would involve through a component of the Here are topics that investors are focused on:</p>\n<p><b>TALKING ABOUT TALKING ABOUT A TAPER</b></p>\n<p>The Fed is keen to minimize the possibility of a market disruption when it begins to reduce its $120 billion per month government bond and mortgage-backed securities purchase program, and so far has only indicated it may soon start \"talking about talking\" about reducing it.</p>\n<p>Market participants will be focused on whether this has advanced in any way, with a reduction in bond purchases expected to be the first step in the Fed’s normalizing its ultra-loose monetary policies.</p>\n<p>Signs that the Fed may taper sooner than expected could spark a bond market sell-off, which could hurt risk appetite and send stocks lower.</p>\n<p>Many analysts think the Fed will hold off on any announcement on bond reductions until its Jackson Hole economic symposium in August, with the taper unlikely to occur until late this year or early next year. Some market participants, however, are worried there are dangers in waiting as inflation prints come in strong.</p>\n<p><b>IS INFLATION BECOMING ENTRENCHED?</b></p>\n<p>Inflation has been coming in well above the Fed’s 2% target as the economy reopens and investors will be watching for signs that policymakers are uncomfortable with the recent increases.</p>\n<p>Data last week showed that consumer prices in May registered the largest annual increase in 13 years, with a 5% gain.</p>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury market showed little concern about the data, however, with yields falling to three-month lows. Ten-year yields were at 1.46% on Monday and have fallen from a <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a>-year high of 1.78% in March.</p>\n<p>Fed Chair Jerome Powell said after the U.S. central bank’s April meeting that transitory increases in inflation expected this year would not meet its standard for raising interest rates.</p>\n<p><b>WILL THE DOT PLOT SHOW AN EXPECTED RATE HIKE IN 2023?</b></p>\n<p>Market participants will focus on when policymakers see an increase in rates, a section of the Fed's economic projections known as the “dot plot.”</p>\n<p>Seven of 18 officials expected to raise rates in 2023 at the Fed’s March meeting, compared with five in December. Four officials also felt rates may need to rise as soon as next year, a change from zero as of the last projections in December.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, any increase in inflation projections for 2022 and 2023 may indicate that the Fed sees inflation increases being more persistent than previously expected.</p>\n<p><b>AS REVERSE REPO VOLUMES HIT RECORDS, WILL THEY RAISE 'IOER'?</b></p>\n<p>Another key focus will be whether the Fed will address disruptions in cash markets by raising the interest it pays banks on excess reserves and the rate it pays on overnight reverse repos.</p>\n<p>Money market investors are struggling with a lack of high quality short-dated assets as the Treasury reduces bill issuance at the same time as banks are struggling with excess deposits, in large part from Fed bond purchases.</p>\n<p>The Fed’s reverse repo facility, which offers approved money managers the option to lend money to the Fed overnight in return for Treasury collateral, has seen increasing demand and set a record $584 billion on Monday. Demand is expected to continue growing as the Treasury continues paring issuance of Treasury bills and the debt ceiling nears.</p>\n<p>By raising the IOER, the Fed can ease some downward pressure on short-term rates. Some analysts say the Fed is unlikely to make any adjustments unless the fed funds rate falls below 5 basis points, a level it has so far held above. Last week saw Mattel stop at the 100-day moving average, but all the indicators have turned bearish.</p><p>Some may want to hang on or look to grab this falling knife, but there are better fish to fry. However, a short here is probably a good bet with 20% of downside likely to come.</p><p>Money flow is weak and moving average convergence divergence (MACD) is on a bear signal. Look to target the $15 area but put in a stop at $21.</p><p><b>Faro Technologies</b></p><p>Faro Technologies Inc.
