The partnership allows users to build and deploy AI-infused applications with IBM’s Watson, the company’s artificial intelligence computing platform. For Palantir, this is a way to get its hooks into more traditional government customers for retrofit business. The hope is that over time, Palantir incorporates its AI solutions into new business.</p>\n<p>Expect IBM to comment on this partnership, as it supports IBM’s growth strategy of digitizing its legacy government business.</p>\n<p><b>Why it matters:</b>PLTR stock has rocketed 126% over the past 12 months. It will also get an improved balance sheet, with IBM offloading some of its excessive debt stemming from the Red Hat acquisition to Kendryl. The hope is that this leaner IBM can return to top-line growth.</p>\n<p>A skinner version is expected to see revenue in the mid single-digit range in 2022 and beyond. While this may sound like a lot, Apple is the fund's 24th-largest holding, and comprises less than 2% of its total value. ARK is a firm believer in mobile technology's increasing role in commerce, repeatedly noting the success of China's mobile payment system, so Apple's fintech developments like the Apple Card and Apple Pay make it a natural fit in ARK's Fintech ETF.</p>\n<p>Augmented Reality (AR) is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of ARK's most closely followed trends. In its Big Ideas 2021 presentation, ARK called out <b>Snapchat,</b> <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FB\">Facebook</a></b>, and Apple for increasing their investments in AR (all three companies are held in the Fintech Innovation ETF).&nbsp;ARK also supports Apple's decision to transition Macs to ARM processors. ARK believes ARM could become the new processor standard by 2030, displacing<b> Intel</b> and leading to further domination by <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMD\">AMD</a> </b>and <b>NVIDIA</b>.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0f3a8df66a1f0c1662ee5f9d7f7a866c\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"410\"><span>AAPL Total Return Level data by YCharts</span></p>\n<h2>2. Caterpillar: $75.6 million</h2>\n<p>Earth moving equipment manufacturer Caterpillar is the 15th-largest holding in the <b>ARK Autonomous Technology &amp; Robotics ETF </b>(NYSEMKT:ARKQ).&nbsp;After a strong market-beating year in 2020, shares of Caterpillar are currently right around their all-time high. In fact, Caterpillar is up over 25% so far in 2021, making it <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of the best-performing stocks in the DJIA.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://g.foolcdn.com/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fg.foolcdn.com%2Feditorial%2Fimages%2F621487%2F1-download.jpeg&amp;w=700&amp;op=resize\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"465\"><span>Image source: Caterpillar.</span></p>\n<p>Caterpillar is an international company that generates over half its sales from outside the U.S. Global competition in the construction, mining, and energy industries is fierce, especially in China -- which is Caterpillar's hottest market. To stay ahead, Caterpillar is implementing machine learning and big data to help its customers better manage their fleets. Caterpillar has developed tools like Cat Connect and Cat Digital, which can be used for both existing and new equipment.</p>\n<h2>3. Boeing: $22.5 million</h2>\n<p>Boeing is the 11th-largest holding in the newly launched <b>ARK Space Exploration &amp; Innovation</b> <b>ETF</b> (NYSEMKT:ARKX). As the world's second-largest maker of commercial airplanes and a leading aerospace company, Boeing has a clear role to play in the burgeoning space industry. Boeing's Defense, Space, and Security segment is a prime contractor for NASA's Space Launch System, a heavy-lift rocket for human space exploration. Boeing also builds satellites and software systems for commercial, military, and scientific exploration.</p>\n<h2>4. Honeywell: $7.4 million</h2>\n<p>Honeywell is a minor holding, ranking 28th in ARK's Space ETF. Honeywell manufactures and designs components for the commercial airline industry and the defense industry. However, its strides in the industrial internet of things (IIOT), which involves developing operational technology (OT) for industrial equipment, are right up ARK's alley. Honeywell would fit nicely into the <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ARKK\">ARK Innovation ETF</a></b> (NYSEMKT:ARKK), the largest of its actively managed ETFs. But it doesn't. The <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ARKW\">ARK Next Generation Internet ETF</a></b> (NYSEMKT:ARKW) holds 53 securities, but not <b>Verizon</b>. And while five out of the DJIA's 30 components are financial companies, Ark's fintech fund holds none of them. Finally, the <b>ARK Genomic Revolution Multi Sector ETF</b> (NYSEMKT:ARKG) is focused heavily on healthcare, yet holds none of the DJIA's five healthcare stocks.</p>\n<h2>Takeaways</h2>\n<p>Industrial stocks aren't often thought of as the most exciting sector on Wall Street. However, leading dividend-paying industrial stocks with growth potential have been handsomely rewarding investors for decades. But ARK believes that these companies, and others like them, will lead to a doubling of U.S. GDP to $40 trillion by 2035.\nBy contrast, The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) will celebrate its 125th anniversary on May 26. But while it's meant to reflect the entire U.S. economy, it doesn't exactly conjure an image of growth. In fact, the Nasdaq has given investors twice the return of the DJIA over the last five years.\nSurprisingly, the four DJIA components that ARK owns -- Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT), Boeing (NYSE:BA), and Honeywell (NYSE:HON)-- are all relatively stable companies with histories of earnings growth, rather than up-and-coming rising stars. Apple: $79.6 million\nThe ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKF) owns 606,427 shares of Apple, which is worth nearly $80 million as of Apple's closing price on April 12. While this may sound like a lot, Apple is the fund's 24th-largest holding, and comprises less than 2% of its total value. ARK is a firm believer in mobile technology's increasing role in commerce, repeatedly noting the success of China's mobile payment system, so Apple's fintech developments like the Apple Card and Apple Pay make it a natural fit in ARK's Fintech ETF.\nAugmented Reality (AR) is one of ARK's most closely followed trends. In its Big Ideas 2021 presentation, ARK called out Snapchat, Facebook, and Apple for increasing their investments in AR (all three companies are held in the Fintech Innovation ETF). ARK also supports Apple's decision to transition Macs to ARM processors. ARK believes ARM could become the new processor standard by 2030, displacing Intel and leading to further domination by AMD and NVIDIA.\nAAPL Total Return Level data by YCharts\n2. Caterpillar: $75.6 million\nEarth moving equipment manufacturer Caterpillar is the 15th-largest holding in the ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKQ). After a strong market-beating year in 2020, shares of Caterpillar are currently right around their all-time high. In fact, Caterpillar is up over 25% so far in 2021, making it one of the best-performing stocks in the DJIA.\nImage source: Caterpillar.\nCaterpillar is an international company that generates over half its sales from outside the U.S. Global competition in the construction, mining, and energy industries is fierce, especially in China -- which is Caterpillar's hottest market. To stay ahead, Caterpillar is implementing machine learning and big data to help its customers better manage their fleets. Caterpillar has developed tools like Cat Connect and Cat Digital, which can be used for both existing and new equipment.\n3. Boeing: $22.5 million\nBoeing is the 11th-largest holding in the newly launched ARK Space Exploration & Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKX). As the world's second-largest maker of commercial airplanes and a leading aerospace company, Boeing has a clear role to play in the burgeoning space industry. Boeing's Defense, Space, and Security segment is a prime contractor for NASA's Space Launch System, a heavy-lift rocket for human space exploration. Boeing also builds satellites and software systems for commercial, military, and scientific exploration.\n4. Honeywell: $7.4 million\nHoneywell is a minor holding, ranking 28th in ARK's Space ETF. Honeywell manufactures and designs components for the commercial airline industry and the defense industry. However, its strides in the industrial internet of things (IIOT), which involves developing operational technology (OT) for industrial equipment, are right up ARK's alley. Honeywell would fit nicely into the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKK), the largest of its actively managed ETFs. But it doesn't. The ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKW) holds 53 securities, but not Verizon. And while five out of the DJIA's 30 components are financial companies, Ark's fintech fund holds none of them. Here’s a cheat sheet on what to expect, and why it matters.</p>\n<p>When IBM reports earnings tonight, investors can expect CEO Arvind Krishna to provide evidence that the company’s turnaround is gaining steam. Krishna hopes to be the next Lou Gerstner, guiding the company through its third major tectonic shift: hybrid multi-cloud. Heralded as the architect of IBM’s transformative&nbsp;$34 billion acquisition of open-source provider Red Hat, Krisha has been at the helm for two years now.</p>\n<p>He’s done a decent job. But IBM is still woefully behind.</p>\n<p>The shift to cloud caught the company off guard. Because IBM’s business had been based on selling a “stack” of hardware, software, services and consulting, Cloud effectively imploded the company’s value proposition. By reducing the need for on-site equipment, cloud has struck a massive blow to computing hardware sales and margins. The result? A 10-year revenue slump.</p>\n<p><b>Cloud: Probably Boring But a Good Barometer</b></p>\n<p><b>What to listen for:</b>IBM has a lot of explaining to do. With IBM stock having rallied from about $115 back in January to around $132, the market is taking a cautious attitude with today’s earnings results. Krishna promises to return value to shareholders via its cloud ambitions. But IBM hasn’t earned a higher multiple, despite the Red Hat acquisition, which was expected to modernize the cloud business.</p>\n<p>Expect IBM to talk up its Cloud business, with (hopefully) some anecdotal comments on the general tone of business.</p>\n<p><b>Why it matters:</b>IBM should have good stuff to say about its “hybrid” cloud strategy, which allows some information to be stored on rival cloud networks&nbsp;<b>Amazon</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>),<b>Alphabet</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<b><u>GOOG</u></b>, NASDAQ:<b><u>GOOGL</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Microsoft</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<b><u>MSFT</u></b>). Unfortunately, whatever we hear is still going to sound like a lone tree falling in the forest. Microsoft also changed the conversation entirely in a $20 billion bid for AI and voice provider&nbsp;<b>Nuance Communications</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<b><u>NUAN</u></b>).</p>\n<p>IBM can’t hold a candle to MSFT right now, but even lip service serves to reinforce Microsoft’s leadership.</p>\n<p><b>Palantir Alert: Expect Some Good “AI” Data Points</b></p>\n<p><b>What to listen for:</b>IBM’s earnings commentary will give insight into Palantir’s government business (56% of 2020 sales). In March, the two companies rolled out&nbsp;Palantir for IBM Cloud Pak for Data. The package combines IBM’s hybrid cloud data platform with Palantir’s Foundry analytics software. The partnership allows users to build and deploy AI-infused applications with IBM’s Watson, the company’s artificial intelligence computing platform. For Palantir, this is a way to get its hooks into more traditional government customers for retrofit business. The hope is that over time, Palantir incorporates its AI solutions into new business.</p>\n<p>Expect IBM to comment on this partnership, as it supports IBM’s growth strategy of digitizing its legacy government business.</p>\n<p><b>Why it matters:</b>PLTR stock has rocketed 126% over the past 12 months. But, it has been in relative limbo lately (flat year-to-date). Bears are starting to build a case for over-extended valuation and narrowing growth drivers. The company relies heavily on its existing government business, most of which consists of U.S. Army contracts won two years ago. For the stock to work, Palantir will have to start seeing more success in its commercial business. While this segment still grew 20% last year, it’s well below government growth at 77%.</p>\n<p>Ultimately, Palantir’s consolidated revenue growth target of 30% could prove aggressive if the entire business isn’t firing on all cylinders.</p>\n<p><b>The Skinnier IBM Stock Is a No-Risk Buy</b></p>\n<p><b>What to listen for:</b>IBM is spinning-off its managed cloud services business, to be named Kyndryl, (“kyn” for “kinship,” and “dryl” for “ tendril”). By spinning off its largest and worst-performing segment,&nbsp; the “new” IBM (60% of the pre-spin consolidated company) will see improved top- and bottom-line performance. It will also get an improved balance sheet, with IBM offloading some of its excessive debt stemming from the Red Hat acquisition to Kendryl. The hope is that this leaner IBM can return to top-line growth.</p>\n<p>A skinner version is expected to see revenue in the mid single-digit range in 2022 and beyond. While this view will probably prove out, things will move slowly.</p>\n<p><b>Why it matters:</b>Despite the perception of IBM stock as a classic value trap, there could be some upside. If you want to park money somewhere safely, IBM stock, which is supported by a 4.9% dividend yield, is a buy. But I’d only put a small amount of money to work here. While this may sound like a lot, Apple is the fund's 24th-largest holding, and comprises less than 2% of its total value. ARK is a firm believer in mobile technology's increasing role in commerce, repeatedly noting the success of China's mobile payment system, so Apple's fintech developments like the Apple Card and Apple Pay make it a natural fit in ARK's Fintech ETF.</p>\n<p>Augmented Reality (AR) is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of ARK's most closely followed trends. In its Big Ideas 2021 presentation, ARK called out <b>Snapchat,</b> <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FB\">Facebook</a></b>, and Apple for increasing their investments in AR (all three companies are held in the Fintech Innovation ETF).&nbsp;ARK also supports Apple's decision to transition Macs to ARM processors. Caterpillar: $75.6 million</h2>\n<p>Earth moving equipment manufacturer Caterpillar is the 15th-largest holding in the <b>ARK Autonomous Technology &amp; Robotics ETF </b>(NYSEMKT:ARKQ).&nbsp;After a strong market-beating year in 2020, shares of Caterpillar are currently right around their all-time high.
