This implies the analysts working for those institutions have looked at the stock and they like it. But just like anyone else, they could be wrong. When multiple institutions own a stock, there's always a risk that they are in a 'crowded trade'. When such a trade goes wrong, multiple parties may compete to sell stock fast. This risk is higher in a company without a history of growth. You can see Singapore Airlines' historic earnings and revenue below, but keep in mind there's always more to the story.
\n
We note that hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in Singapore Airlines. Our data shows that Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited is the largest shareholder with 55% of shares outstanding. BlackRock, Inc. is the second largest shareholder owning 1.5% of common stock, and The Vanguard Group, Inc. holds about 1.4% of the company stock.
\n
Researching institutional ownership is a good way to gauge and filter a stock's expected performance. However, on some occasions too much power is concentrated within this group.
\n
Our information suggests that Singapore Airlines Limited insiders own under 1% of the company. Today, I'd like to expand on this analysis, offering three more reasons why you should consider adding SE to your portfolio if you haven't yet. One relates to the core business potential, another looks at shifts in market dynamics, and the last one is an upcoming catalyst that could easily send the stock up in the next few weeks.
\n
Sea: The undisputed King of eSports
\n
First and foremost, I'd like to talk about Garena, which constitutes the \"Digital Entertainment\" segment of the company. As I pointed out already, Garena and Free Fire are the crown jewels of SE. Its revenues are growing fast and it is the main source of cash flow for the company. The question I posed before was; what if the company can't replicate the success of Free Fire? This is certainly a risk, but today I'd like to look at the opportunities by instead asking: What if SE can leverage its audience and further grow and monetize Garena?
\n
In this regard, we saw some very encouraging news last week atGarena World's first virtual edition, which drew in over 1.2 million attendees and 40 million viewers. The event showcased the kind of fanaticism that Garena creates, and it was an opportunity for the company to cement its leadership position as an eSports organizer, and showcase two of its upcoming games, \"Undawn\" and \"Fantasy Town\".
\n
I am trying to point out here that SE is, by some measures, the most successful eSports company in the world (Free Fire was the most downloaded game of 2020). The eSports segment is growing fast, and SE is set to ride this wave:
\n

\n
Source:Statista
\n
According to data from Statista, the eSports market could achieve close to $1.61 billion in revenues by 2024. This implies a CAGR of over 14% from 2021 to 2024. Furthermore, we have to understand that eSports has a lot of potential due to its target demographic.
\n

\n
Source:Newzoo
\n
Gaming and eSports are especially popular with the younger generations, specifically people in their teens, twenties and early thirties. In 5-10 years though, this demographic will be the main revenue creators and spenders in the economy, which bodes very well for SE. It might seem ludicrous now, but a world where top eSports competition garners the same levels of viewership and revenue as the NFL is in the cards.
\n
So, while Garena's Free Fire success could be hard to replicate, the more important thing to focus on is the fact that Sea is one of the most relevant companies in one of the fastest-growing market segments right now. SE is often compared to Amazon.com (AMZN) or Alibaba Group Holdings (BABA), but it also has all the makings of a future Tencent Holdings Limited(OTCPK:TCEHY).
\n
Momentum is shifting
\n
Moving on to another segment of the business, digital commerce, we have seen some very encouraging results coming from companies in this sector, which makes me more bullish than ever on Shopee's prospects. Shopify Inc. (SHOP), whichI wrote about herehas had an outstanding quarter, beating on revenue and non-GAAP EPS. Granted, Shopify and Shopee are not the same, but it is still encouraging to see that, in what is known to be the weakest quarter of the year, Shopify doubled its GMV.
\n
But this trend is not limited to Shopify. Amazon, which I think is a better comparison to SE,saw revenues increase by 44%. What we are seeing is clear evidence that COVID has brought about a real and long-lasting shift in consumer spending, accelerating the move to online.According to Statista, worldwide eCommerce GMV could reach $6388 billion by 2024, and SE stands to gain massively from that, given its presence in South East Asia and now Latin America.
\n
Shopee is the go-to marketplace for consumers in these areas and has grown GMV by 113% in the last year. While profitability is still an issue, companies like Amazon are proof that margins in this sector, while thin, are possible. For now, Shopee has to focus on growing its size, which it can do thanks to all the free cash flow generated by Garena.
\n
MSCI Inclusion
\n
Lastly, as I mentioned in the introduction, I would like to mention one significant catalyst that SE could experience in the next weeks or months. Starting in May, the stock is now eligible for inclusion in the MSCI Singapore Index, which tracks the performance of large- and mid-cap companies in the Singapore market. The inclusion of SE in the index could lead to significant inflows of capital into the stock.
\n
\n With Sea assumed to hold the largest weight in the index post-rebalancing at about 20 per cent, its stock would take over the current top position of DBS. This could potentially translate into US$2.5 billion in passive inflow, said CGS-CIMB based on its estimates.\n
\n
Source:BusineesTimes.com
\n
With that said, CGS-CIMB proposes a price target of $315 for the stock based on this inclusion as well as higher gaming multiples and higher monetization at Shopee.
\n
We have known about the possible inclusion for a while, and SE stock did jump over 8% when this possibility was first announced back in November, but now it is becoming reality, and demand for the stock will literally and automatically increase once the stock is included in the MSCI.
\n
Takeaway
\n
It's clear, in my opinion, that Sea Limited has a bright future ahead of it. As Ialready mentioned before, SE is still growing fast, and I am especially encouraged by the investment prospects brought about by Sea Capital. On top of that, we have secular trends underpinning growth in eCommerce and eSports, and the imminent catalyst of the MSCI inclusion. I suggest you act now before it's too late.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Sea Limited: 3 Reasons You Should Own This Monster Growth Stock
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSea Limited: 3 Reasons You Should Own This Monster Growth Stock\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-04 15:55 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nSea's Garena still holds a lot of potential for further growth and profitability.\nThe company's business is supported by secular growth trends.\nThe MSCI inclusion should act as a near-term ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SE":"Sea Ltd"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4423746-sea-limited-3-reasons-you-should-own-this-monster-growth-stock","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1178591935","content_text":"Summary\n\nSea's Garena still holds a lot of potential for further growth and profitability.\nThe company's business is supported by secular growth trends.\nThe MSCI inclusion should act as a near-term catalyst.\n\nThesis Summary\nIn mylatest article onSea Limited (SE), I discussed the overall business opportunities of the company, and why I am bullish on this Southeast Asian growth story. The thing is, the tech giant just might be able to pull it off.
\n
The buzz around Apple last year was off the charts, even for what is the buzziest of technology companies. Anticipation of the fall launch of the company’s first 5G phones, surging demand for both Macs and iPads as the pandemic rolled on, and strength in both wearables and services fed off each other. The pieces all came together in the December quarter, when Apple (ticker: AAPL) posted its biggest quarter ever. Sales soared 21% to $111.4 billion, more than $8 billion over the Street consensus. Every product category—iPhone, iPad, Macs, wearables, and services—notched double-digit growth. Apple stock finished the year up 81%, adding nearly $1 trillion to its market cap.
\n
That’s a tough act to follow, particularly with the March quarter, which always slows from the holiday-boosted December quarter. But Apple could pull off the quintuple double again when its results come out after the bell Wednesday. The Street certainly thinks so, even if the market, which has pushed Apple shares up less than 2% in 2021, has been more cautious. Consensus estimates call for double-digit increases from last year across the board: iPhones sales up 43%, to $41.4 billion; iPad sales up 29%, to $5.6 billion; Mac sales of $6.8 billion, up 27%; wearables sales (mostly Apple Watch and AirPods) of $7.4 billion, up 18%; and a 16% bump in services, to $15.5 billion.
\n
Overall, the Street consensus expects sales of $77 billion, up 32% from a year ago, with profits of 98 cents a share. That would be the fastest top-line growth rate for any Apple quarter since March 2012, when revenues were about half what they are now. And most bullish Apple analysts seem to think their own estimates are too low—a print at $77 billion would likely trigger a selloff in the stock.
\n
Apple is also expected to provide an update on its capital-allocation strategy. A year ago,the company announced a 6% dividend increase, and boosted its stock repurchase plan by $50 billion. Apple has said repeatedly that it is pushing to get to a cash neutral position, but its remarkably big cash flow has slowed progress toward that goal.
\n
As always, the quarter is about more than just earnings.
\n
For one, the Street will be looking for signs that the sales surge for Macs and iPads is sustainable—and that the company is keeping up with demand despite widespread chip and display shortages. Some investors worry that the spike in PC demand could ebb as more people return to schools and offices. They’ll be looking for company guidance on that point.
\n
Another is the sustainability of the resurgence in iPhone growth. There were high hopes among bulls that the iPhone 12 would drive a “supercycle” with an accelerated replacement cycle. Several analysts have noted that a clear consumer preference for the high end of the iPhone 12 line is driving up average selling prices, which should support a strong revenue quarter for the segment.
\n
“Given the later-than-seasonal launch of new iPhones in the fall of 2020, we believe iPhone demand will experience more favorable year-over-year comparisons this March quarter compared to past years,” writes Monness Crespi Hardt’s Brian White, who sees 47% iPhone revenue growth during the quarter.
\n
And if Apple pulls it all together? Apple could crush Street estimates, writes Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, who has an Overweight rating and a $158 price target on the stock, up 17% from Monday’s close of $134.72. She sees the top line above $80 billion, with all segments growing at least 19% year over year. She is especially bullish on Mac and iPad sales, with estimates far above consensus—53% for Macs and 52% for iPads. She also expects Apple to increase its dividend by 10% and expand its stock repurchase program by $60 billion.
\n
That would certainly qualify as a job well done.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Could Blow the Top Off Earnings—Again. There’s no way to fit you in.”
\n
After a moment, the prospector asked to say just four words to the present occupants. That seemed harmless to St. Peter, so the prospector yelled, “Oil discovered in hell!” Immediately, most of the oil prospectors stampeded out for the nether regions. Impressed, St. Peter invited the prospector to move in and get comfortable. The prospector paused, saying “No, I think I’ll go along with the rest of them. There might be some truth to that rumor after all.”
\n
Let that be a warning to CEOs and shareholders. Steering clear of rumors and self-delusion has been one of Warren Buffett’s key rules, ingrained into Berkshire Hathaway for years. We all need to hear such lessons repeatedly because reality’s temptations are always at war with our ideals.
\n
The serial frenzies in meme stocks like GameStop and cryptocurrencies like dogecoin make this a good time to contrast what investors should do from what many seem to do. Comparing Berkshire’s and crypto’s faithful is apt given their outsized followings: an estimated 30 million Americanshave traded cryptocurrencies and 30 million are expected to stream this year’s Berkshire virtual annual meeting on May 1.
\n
Buffett defines Berkshire as a corporation with a partnership attitude. The value of each investor’s stake will rise (or fall) in lock step. This contrasts with how many seem to view companies with meme stocks or most of the crypto space. There, the culture is casino-like, where a small few stand to reap unimaginable riches while the overwhelming majority lose their shirts.
\n
Moreover, Berkshire’s culture emphasizes patience and permanence. The company ideally holds investments and businesses forever and encourages its shareholders to hold indefinitely, through thick and thin. In the world of meme stocks and cryptocurrency trading, a strong norm favors immediate payday profits to be taken off the board.
\n
Relatedly, the Berkshire ideal accepts that it requires decades to build capital and that accumulating wealth entails skill and time — as well as a bit of luck. In contrast are those who strive to get rich quickly — and effortlessly. Today, some investment market players even seem to believe that everyone should be rich, as a matter of entitlement.
\n
The ideal Berkshire investor focuses on business, operating strategies, products or services and competitive advantages. For many in the meme-crypto world, what counts is hype and adrenaline, not whether there’s a business plan, let alone operations or customers. The Berkshire model is skeptical of fads, fashions and trends, while dogecoin and other cryptos thrive on these.
\n
This leads to the Berkshire canon’s cardinal principle: the circle of competence. It prescribes to invest only in what you can understand with a moderate amount of effort. This excludes at least some meme stocks and many currently faddish “blank-check” IPO-mergers. For most people, cryptocurrencies are outside of their circle of competence. Indeed, large numbers of investors nowadays appear to be way out of their circle of competence.
\n
For investments within one’s circle of competence, Berkshire adherents appreciate that prices fluctuate widely and no one can predict such volatility. “Mr. Market” is a moody manic, always willing to trade with you at the going price, sometimes elevated, sometimes depressed.
\n
Following from both the limits of personal competence and the whims of markets, the Berkshire playbook demands a wide margin between the price paid and the value received. In Berkshire’s value-investing lexicon, this is the “margin of safety,” and Buffett has long said that these are the three most important words in investing.
\n
Finally, besides avoiding rumor-mongering and self-delusion, the Berkshire playbook says to beware the delusions of others. Berkshire’s Vice Chairman, Charlie Munger, tells a story about fishing for muskies at Leech Lake in Minnesota. A visiting angler asked the local guide, “Are any muskies caught in this lake?”
\n
“More muskies are caught in this lake than in any other lake in Minnesota,” the guide replied. “This lake is famous for muskies.”
\n
“How long have you been fishing here?”
\n
“Nineteen years,” the guide said.
\n
“And how many muskies have you caught?”
\n
“None.”
\n
So the next time someone tells you of the untold riches being made in day trading, ask them, “How much cash have you banked?”
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; There’s no way to fit you in.”\nAfter a moment, the prospector asked to say just four words to the present occupants. There might be some truth to that rumor after all.”\nLet that be a warning to CEOs and shareholders. Steering clear of rumors and self-delusion has been one of Warren Buffett’s key rules, ingrained into Berkshire Hathaway for years. We all need to hear such lessons repeatedly because reality’s temptations are always at war with our ideals.\nThe serial frenzies in meme stocks like GameStop and cryptocurrencies like dogecoin make this a good time to contrast what investors should do from what many seem to do. Comparing Berkshire’s and crypto’s faithful is apt given their outsized followings: an estimated 30 million Americanshave traded cryptocurrencies and 30 million are expected to stream this year’s Berkshire virtual annual meeting on May 1.\nBuffett defines Berkshire as a corporation with a partnership attitude. The value of each investor’s stake will rise (or fall) in lock step. This contrasts with how many seem to view companies with meme stocks or most of the crypto space. There, the culture is casino-like, where a small few stand to reap unimaginable riches while the overwhelming majority lose their shirts. \nMoreover, Berkshire’s culture emphasizes patience and permanence. The company ideally holds investments and businesses forever and encourages its shareholders to hold indefinitely, through thick and thin. In the world of meme stocks and cryptocurrency trading, a strong norm favors immediate payday profits to be taken off the board. \nRelatedly, the Berkshire ideal accepts that it requires decades to build capital and that accumulating wealth entails skill and time — as well as a bit of luck. In contrast are those who strive to get rich quickly — and effortlessly. Today, some investment market players even seem to believe that everyone should be rich, as a matter of entitlement.\nThe ideal Berkshire investor focuses on business, operating strategies, products or services and competitive advantages. For many in the meme-crypto world, what counts is hype and adrenaline, not whether there’s a business plan, let alone operations or customers. The Berkshire model is skeptical of fads, fashions and trends, while dogecoin and other cryptos thrive on these.\nThis leads to the Berkshire canon’s cardinal principle: the circle of competence. It prescribes to invest only in what you can understand with a moderate amount of effort. This excludes at least some meme stocks and many currently faddish “blank-check” IPO-mergers. For most people, cryptocurrencies are outside of their circle of competence. Indeed, large numbers of investors nowadays appear to be way out of their circle of competence.\nFor investments within one’s circle of competence, Berkshire adherents appreciate that prices fluctuate widely and no one can predict such volatility. “Mr. Market” is a moody manic, always willing to trade with you at the going price, sometimes elevated, sometimes depressed.\nFollowing from both the limits of personal competence and the whims of markets, the Berkshire playbook demands a wide margin between the price paid and the value received. In Berkshire’s value-investing lexicon, this is the “margin of safety,” and Buffett has long said that these are the three most important words in investing.\nFinally, besides avoiding rumor-mongering and self-delusion, the Berkshire playbook says to beware the delusions of others. Berkshire’s Vice Chairman, Charlie Munger, tells a story about fishing for muskies at Leech Lake in Minnesota. A visiting angler asked the local guide, “Are any muskies caught in this lake?”\n“More muskies are caught in this lake than in any other lake in Minnesota,” the guide replied. “This lake is famous for muskies.”\n“How long have you been fishing here?”\n“Nineteen years,” the guide said.\n“And how many muskies have you caught?”\n“None.”\nSo the next time someone tells you of the untold riches being made in day trading, ask them, “How much cash have you banked?”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":38,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":378716067,"gmtCreate":1619060803359,"gmtModify":1704719033096,"author":{"id":"3581907333057475","authorId":"3581907333057475","name":"Asakuragary","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d4cc895c48346ff9fb21a6fc8d4bae6a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581907333057475","authorIdStr":"3581907333057475"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Looks fine today","listText":"Looks fine today","text":"Looks fine today","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/52bec7c00ef2d0b90553c615eac6b25b","width":"1080","height":"2650"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/378716067","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":110,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":378711576,"gmtCreate":1619060695195,"gmtModify":1704719031477,"author":{"id":"3581907333057475","authorId":"3581907333057475","name":"Asakuragary","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d4cc895c48346ff9fb21a6fc8d4bae6a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581907333057475","authorIdStr":"3581907333057475"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$first purchase!","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$first purchase!","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$first purchase!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/374b92954e8bb34e0637436c8723810e","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/378711576","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":802,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3578954923651343","authorId":"3578954923651343","name":"OPL","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d8ad5f16df678ffd72c002b6f23c9ad","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3578954923651343","authorIdStr":"3578954923651343"},"content":"Welcome aboard SQC6L!

This is certainly a risk, but today I'd like to look at the opportunities by instead asking: What if SE can leverage its audience and further grow and monetize Garena?\nIn this regard, we saw some very encouraging news last week atGarena World's first virtual edition, which drew in over 1.2 million attendees and 40 million viewers. The event showcased the kind of fanaticism that Garena creates, and it was an opportunity for the company to cement its leadership position as an eSports organizer, and showcase two of its upcoming games, \"Undawn\" and \"Fantasy Town\".\nI am trying to point out here that SE is, by some measures, the most successful eSports company in the world (Free Fire was the most downloaded game of 2020). The eSports segment is growing fast, and SE is set to ride this wave:\n\nSource:Statista\nAccording to data from Statista, the eSports market could achieve close to $1.61 billion in revenues by 2024. This implies a CAGR of over 14% from 2021 to 2024. Furthermore, we have to understand that eSports has a lot of potential due to its target demographic.\n\nSource:Newzoo\nGaming and eSports are especially popular with the younger generations, specifically people in their teens, twenties and early thirties. In 5-10 years though, this demographic will be the main revenue creators and spenders in the economy, which bodes very well for SE. It might seem ludicrous now, but a world where top eSports competition garners the same levels of viewership and revenue as the NFL is in the cards.\nSo, while Garena's Free Fire success could be hard to replicate, the more important thing to focus on is the fact that Sea is one of the most relevant companies in one of the fastest-growing market segments right now. SE is often compared to Amazon.com (AMZN) or Alibaba Group Holdings (BABA), but it also has all the makings of a future Tencent Holdings Limited(OTCPK:TCEHY).\nMomentum is shifting\nMoving on to another segment of the business, digital commerce, we have seen some very encouraging results coming from companies in this sector, which makes me more bullish than ever on Shopee's prospects. Shopify Inc. (SHOP), whichI wrote about herehas had an outstanding quarter, beating on revenue and non-GAAP EPS. Granted, Shopify and Shopee are not the same, but it is still encouraging to see that, in what is known to be the weakest quarter of the year, Shopify doubled its GMV.\nBut this trend is not limited to Shopify. Amazon, which I think is a better comparison to SE,saw revenues increase by 44%. What we are seeing is clear evidence that COVID has brought about a real and long-lasting shift in consumer spending, accelerating the move to online.According to Statista, worldwide eCommerce GMV could reach $6388 billion by 2024, and SE stands to gain massively from that, given its presence in South East Asia and now Latin America.\nShopee is the go-to marketplace for consumers in these areas and has grown GMV by 113% in the last year. While profitability is still an issue, companies like Amazon are proof that margins in this sector, while thin, are possible. For now, Shopee has to focus on growing its size, which it can do thanks to all the free cash flow generated by Garena.\nMSCI Inclusion\nLastly, as I mentioned in the introduction, I would like to mention one significant catalyst that SE could experience in the next weeks or months. Starting in May, the stock is now eligible for inclusion in the MSCI Singapore Index, which tracks the performance of large- and mid-cap companies in the Singapore market. The inclusion of SE in the index could lead to significant inflows of capital into the stock.\n\n With Sea assumed to hold the largest weight in the index post-rebalancing at about 20 per cent, its stock would take over the current top position of DBS. This could potentially translate into US$2.5 billion in passive inflow, said CGS-CIMB based on its estimates.\n\nSource:BusineesTimes.com\nWith that said, CGS-CIMB proposes a price target of $315 for the stock based on this inclusion as well as higher gaming multiples and higher monetization at Shopee.\nWe have known about the possible inclusion for a while, and SE stock did jump over 8% when this possibility was first announced back in November, but now it is becoming reality, and demand for the stock will literally and automatically increase once the stock is included in the MSCI.\nTakeaway\nIt's clear, in my opinion, that Sea Limited has a bright future ahead of it. As Ialready mentioned before, SE is still growing fast, and I am especially encouraged by the investment prospects brought about by Sea Capital. On top of that, we have secular trends underpinning growth in eCommerce and eSports, and the imminent catalyst of the MSCI inclusion. I suggest you act now before it's too late.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":239,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":100149549,"gmtCreate":1619593508981,"gmtModify":1704726490172,"author":{"id":"3581907333057475","authorId":"3581907333057475","name":"Asakuragary","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d4cc895c48346ff9fb21a6fc8d4bae6a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581907333057475","authorIdStr":"3581907333057475"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Let's see if it's true!","listText":"Let's see if it's true!","text":"Let's see if it's true!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/100149549","repostId":"1179396069","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179396069","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619573853,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1179396069?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-28 09:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Could Blow the Top Off Earnings—Again.
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; There’s no way to fit you in.”\nAfter a moment, the prospector asked to say just four words to the present occupants. That seemed harmless to St. Peter, so the prospector yelled, “Oil discovered in hell!” Immediately, most of the oil prospectors stampeded out for the nether regions. Impressed, St. Peter invited the prospector to move in and get comfortable. The prospector paused, saying “No, I think I’ll go along with the rest of them. There might be some truth to that rumor after all.”\nLet that be a warning to CEOs and shareholders. Steering clear of rumors and self-delusion has been one of Warren Buffett’s key rules, ingrained into Berkshire Hathaway for years. We all need to hear such lessons repeatedly because reality’s temptations are always at war with our ideals.\nThe serial frenzies in meme stocks like GameStop and cryptocurrencies like dogecoin make this a good time to contrast what investors should do from what many seem to do. Comparing Berkshire’s and crypto’s faithful is apt given their outsized followings: an estimated 30 million Americanshave traded cryptocurrencies and 30 million are expected to stream this year’s Berkshire virtual annual meeting on May 1.\nBuffett defines Berkshire as a corporation with a partnership attitude. The value of each investor’s stake will rise (or fall) in lock step. This contrasts with how many seem to view companies with meme stocks or most of the crypto space. There, the culture is casino-like, where a small few stand to reap unimaginable riches while the overwhelming majority lose their shirts. \nMoreover, Berkshire’s culture emphasizes patience and permanence. The company ideally holds investments and businesses forever and encourages its shareholders to hold indefinitely, through thick and thin. In the world of meme stocks and cryptocurrency trading, a strong norm favors immediate payday profits to be taken off the board. \nRelatedly, the Berkshire ideal accepts that it requires decades to build capital and that accumulating wealth entails skill and time — as well as a bit of luck. In contrast are those who strive to get rich quickly — and effortlessly. Today, some investment market players even seem to believe that everyone should be rich, as a matter of entitlement.\nThe ideal Berkshire investor focuses on business, operating strategies, products or services and competitive advantages. For many in the meme-crypto world, what counts is hype and adrenaline, not whether there’s a business plan, let alone operations or customers. The Berkshire model is skeptical of fads, fashions and trends, while dogecoin and other cryptos thrive on these.\nThis leads to the Berkshire canon’s cardinal principle: the circle of competence. It prescribes to invest only in what you can understand with a moderate amount of effort. This excludes at least some meme stocks and many currently faddish “blank-check” IPO-mergers. For most people, cryptocurrencies are outside of their circle of competence. Indeed, large numbers of investors nowadays appear to be way out of their circle of competence.\nFor investments within one’s circle of competence, Berkshire adherents appreciate that prices fluctuate widely and no one can predict such volatility. “Mr. Market” is a moody manic, always willing to trade with you at the going price, sometimes elevated, sometimes depressed.\nFollowing from both the limits of personal competence and the whims of markets, the Berkshire playbook demands a wide margin between the price paid and the value received. In Berkshire’s value-investing lexicon, this is the “margin of safety,” and Buffett has long said that these are the three most important words in investing.\nFinally, besides avoiding rumor-mongering and self-delusion, the Berkshire playbook says to beware the delusions of others. Berkshire’s Vice Chairman, Charlie Munger, tells a story about fishing for muskies at Leech Lake in Minnesota. A visiting angler asked the local guide, “Are any muskies caught in this lake?”\n“More muskies are caught in this lake than in any other lake in Minnesota,” the guide replied. “This lake is famous for muskies.”\n“How long have you been fishing here?”\n“Nineteen years,” the guide said.\n“And how many muskies have you caught?”\n“None.”\nSo the next time someone tells you of the untold riches being made in day trading, ask them, “How much cash have you banked?”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":38,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":378716067,"gmtCreate":1619060803359,"gmtModify":1704719033096,"author":{"id":"3581907333057475","authorId":"3581907333057475","name":"Asakuragary","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d4cc895c48346ff9fb21a6fc8d4bae6a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581907333057475","authorIdStr":"3581907333057475"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Looks fine today","listText":"Looks fine today","text":"Looks fine today","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/52bec7c00ef2d0b90553c615eac6b25b","width":"1080","height":"2650"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/378716067","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":110,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":378040698,"gmtCreate":1618983988414,"gmtModify":1704717873062,"author":{"id":"3581907333057475","authorId":"3581907333057475","name":"Asakuragary","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d4cc895c48346ff9fb21a6fc8d4bae6a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581907333057475","authorIdStr":"3581907333057475"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmm, is this a good time to buy in?","listText":"Hmm, is this a good time to buy in?","text":"Hmm, is this a good time to buy in?","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/318267b7877aa2f4b762f9f9c721abf6","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/378040698","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":184,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
