Kinahan, chief market strategist at TD Ameritrade, told MarketWatch in emailed comments on Sunday.
\n
\"As far as the markets go, we'll have to wait and see on the longer-term implications,\" he said.
\n
Futures, however, were tilting lower, with those for the S&P 500 , the Dow and the Nasdaq-100 all showing modest declines, but hardly indicating that the market's bull run amid COVID-19 was in jeopardy.
\n
The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield was at 1.27% late Sunday in New York, attracting some haven bids, with prices of government debt rising and yields moving in the opposite direction.
\n
Taliban fighters took over Kabul , fearing retaliation in the new regime.
\n
President Joe Biden has rushed 5,000 troops to Kabul .
\n
The U.S. presence in Afghanistan, spanning the tenures of Presidents George W. Cohen also owns 9.8% of Bed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY).

Cohen recently gained three seats on Bed Bath & Beyond’s board. As a result, he is now fighting a war on two fronts. History tells us that most times, when an aggressor tries to fight two opponents at the same time rather than one, the outcome is generally unfavorable.

BBBY reported a fourth-quarter loss of 92 cents versus the analyst estimate of a four-cent profit. BBBY stock is down more than 9% on the news.

If Cohen is smart, he’ll stop the war on two fronts and focus on GameStop. If you’re an investor, I would caution against buying either stock. If Cohen’s not careful, he’ll hold the bag for both GameStop and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Here’s why.

Ryan Cohen Is No Warren Buffett

The idea for my commentary today is not original. Yahoo Finance editor-at-large Brian Sozzi recently reported some of the comments of Loop Capital Markets analyst Anthony Chukumba regarding Ryan Cohen’s large investments in both companies.

Here’s what Chukumba had to say about GameStop:

“He bought a big stake in GameStop. He became the chairman. He brought in all these executives and board members. The stock went up a ton. But have the fundamentals of the business gotten any better? Any better at all? The answer is no. And by the way, the stock peaked at $483. It’s now down to about $150,” Sozzi reported on April 12.

In February, I pointed out that savior Cohen sold Chewy (NYSE:CHWY) long before it proved it could consistently make money. I also said that his claim Chewy would have been successful no matter what products it sold fails to recognize that the pet care industry is one of the most stable in North America. So he hardly picked a tough one.

GME stock has rebounded nicely in recent weeks — it’s up 64% over the past month — as the meme stock investors piled back into Cohen’s original turnaround target.

In March, GameStop reported decent Q4 2021 sales — up 6.2% over Q4 2020 to $2.25 billion — with an adjusted loss of $1.86 a share, well off the analyst estimate of an 85-cent profit.

The company had nothing but good things to say about its strategy to transform GameStop’s business. If nothing else, Cohen is a good promoter.

GME Stock + BBBY = Potential Bloodbath

As I said in the intro, Bed Bath & Beyond reported a 92-cent loss in the fourth quarter, 96 cents worse than the consensus estimate. BBBY stock jumped 34% on March 7 after Cohen revealed his stake in the retailer. Its share price is now down 18% from its March 7 close.

So, Cohen now has two money-losing businesses to turn around. It’s tough enough to achieve success once. But he wants to do it twice. At this point, the smart investor would realize the probabilities of Cohen being successful on both are slim.

Chukumba is equally unimpressed by Cohen’s BBBY play:

“It’s the same thing with Bed Bath & Beyond. He bought a stake in Bed Bath & Beyond, but he said you can easily take this thing private. No you can’t. He also said the market cap of buybuy BABY is more than the entire market cap of the company. Wrong once again,” Sozzi reported. “Let’s rid ourselves of the notion he is the next Warren Buffett, the emperor has no clothes.”

He’s 100% on the mark.

The man has done little to alter either business, yet he’s ready to fight a war on two fronts. Unfortunately, this scenario has only one end — a bad one from where I sit.

Chewy’s Not Looking So Hot

Before ignoring my warning about betting on Cohen, remember that Chewy’s most recent quarterly report was a stinker. The company lost 15 cents a share in Q4 2021, seven cents worse than analyst expectations, while revenues were $2.39 billion, $30-million shy of the consensus.

For all of 2021, Chewy finished with a net loss of $73.8 million. It did make money on a non-GAAP adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) basis, but $6.6 million less than a year ago and with an adjusted EBITDA margin of less than 1%.

The smart thing Ryan Cohen’s done up to this point in his business career was to sell Chewy when the getting was good. That makes me think of Mark Cuban and the sale of Broadcast.com for $5.7 billion at the height of the dot-com bubble in 1999. Only Cuban took those winnings and built an empire, including the Dallas Mavericks.

Cohen’s proven he’s no Warren Buffett or Mark Cuban. For this reason, I wouldn’t buy either.

","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The Smart Investor Will Avoid GameStop and Bed Bath & Beyond
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Smart Investor Will Avoid GameStop and Bed Bath & Beyond\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-04-16 07:55 GMT+8 investorplace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) just got three seats on its board.GameStop (GME) savior Ryan Cohen ought to pick one or the other. The smart move for investors is not to own either. Most investors following ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"GME":"游戏驿站","BBBY":"3B家居"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2022/04/the-smart-investor-will-avoid-gamestop-gme-stock-and-bed-bath-beyond/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1175785386","content_text":"Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) just got three seats on its board.GameStop (GME) savior Ryan Cohen ought to pick one or the other. The smart move for investors is not to own either. Most investors following GameStop (NYSE:GME) know that Ryan Cohen, the so-called savior of the video game retailer, owns 11.9% of GME stock through RC Ventures, his holding company. BBBY stock jumped 34% on March 7 after Cohen revealed his stake in the retailer. Its share price is now down 18% from its March 7 close. So, Cohen now has two money-losing businesses to turn around. It’s tough enough to achieve success once. But he wants to do it twice. At this point, the smart investor would realize the probabilities of Cohen being successful on both are slim.Chukumba is equally unimpressed by Cohen’s BBBY play:“It’s the same thing with Bed Bath & Beyond. He bought a stake in Bed Bath & Beyond, but he said you can easily take this thing private. No you can’t. He also said the market cap of buybuy BABY is more than the entire market cap of the company. Wrong once again,” Sozzi reported. “Let’s rid ourselves of the notion he is the next Warren Buffett, the emperor has no clothes.”He’s 100% on the mark. The man has done little to alter either business, yet he’s ready to fight a war on two fronts. Unfortunately, this scenario has only one end — a bad one from where I sit.Chewy’s Not Looking So HotBefore ignoring my warning about betting on Cohen, remember that Chewy’s most recent quarterly report was a stinker. The company lost 15 cents a share in Q4 2021, seven cents worse than analyst expectations, while revenues were $2.39 billion, $30-million shy of the consensus. For all of 2021, Chewy finished with a net loss of $73.8 million. It did make money on a non-GAAP adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) basis, but $6.6 million less than a year ago and with an adjusted EBITDA margin of less than 1%.The smart thing Ryan Cohen’s done up to this point in his business career was to sell Chewy when the getting was good. That makes me think of Mark Cuban and the sale of Broadcast.com for $5.7 billion at the height of the dot-com bubble in 1999. Only Cuban took those winnings and built an empire, including the Dallas Mavericks.Cohen’s proven he’s no Warren Buffett or Mark Cuban. For this reason, I wouldn’t buy either.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":206,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":831126811,"gmtCreate":1629295921433,"gmtModify":1676529995511,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Rollercoaster","listText":"Rollercoaster","text":"Rollercoaster","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/831126811","repostId":"1136381881","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1136381881","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1629294828,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1136381881?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-18 21:53","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Blockchain stocks fell in morning trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1136381881","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(Aug 18) Blockchain stocks fell in morning trading.\n\nCryptos rebounded from a late Tuesday selloff.","content":"
(Aug 18) Blockchain stocks fell in morning trading.
\n

\n
Cryptos rebounded from a late Tuesday selloff.
\n

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The update, known as iOS 14.5, allows iPhone and iPad users to limit companies from tracking their device’s activity. This makes it difficult for companies like Facebook to target users with personalized ads.\nNo company complained more about the impact of iOS 14.5 than Facebook, which warned that the change to the Apple software would impact small businesses’ ability to market to their customers. For a while now, Facebook has warned investors to brace for “ad targeting headwinds” related to Apple’s changes, as well as others in the internet landscape.\nThe social media giant is scheduled to release earnings Wednesday, July 28 after the bell.\nFacebook’s revenue for the second quarter, their guidance for the rest of the year and any commentary from the company’s executives during its earnings call will be telling. This quarter’s results could provide insight as to how many users opted to restrict Facebook’s tracking and whether the social media company has been able to navigate those restrictions.\n“The changes went into effect during the quarter, and we’re still seeing the rollout of the 14.5 update,” said Debra Aho Williamson, principal analyst at eMarketer. “I’m going to be very curious.”\nAlready, Facebook’s peers have navigated the challenge’s of iOS 14.5 with few setbacks. Snap, for example, was not affected by the Apple update as it had anticipated, telling analysts on its earnings call on Thursday that it had observed “higher opt-in rates than we are seeing reported generally across the industry.”Twitterechoed the sentiment, telling shareholders that the effect of Apple’s changes was lower than expected. Both companies did warn that the long-term impacts of iOS 14.5 remain to be seen, but so far, the early returns have been promising.\nHere are three Facebook storylines to follow when the company announces its second-quarter earnings:\n1. Facebook’s commerce business\nIn an effort to combat the restrictions of Apple’s iOS 14.5 update, Facebook has been ramping up its efforts to bring more commerce directly into its own apps.\nIt did this last year by introducing Facebook Shops and Instagram Shops, and more recently, the company announced plans to introduce more ways for creators to promote shoppable products through their Instagram accounts. Further,Facebook in June announced its plans to bring shops to WhatsApp, a messaging service.\nBy having users make purchases from advertisers directly on its own apps, Facebook is able to directly measure the effectiveness of its ads and provide those stats to advertisers.\nAlready, Facebook claims more than 300 million monthly Shops visitors and 1.2 million monthly active Shops across its apps. Any updates from Facebook regarding its commerce efforts will be worthwhile for investors.\n“While Q2 is not historically a big commerce quarter, social commerce is clearly coming into its own,” said Ron Josey, JMP Securities managing director.\n2. Covid’s impact on app usage\nInvestors will want to know whether the economic reopening and the expansion of Covid-19 vaccines have affected the amount of time users spend on Facebook and its various apps.\nA year ago when people worldwide were forced indoors, Facebook and other consumer apps saw their usage skyrocket as people sought to stay connected. Now, investors will want to know if that usage has taken a hit or will it continue growing.\n“Now that people are out and getting around, are they posting more or are they living in the real world? What are they doing?” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer of Bokeh Capital.\nAdding a twist to this, however, is the growing spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus. As cases start to rise again in the U.S., investors will want to know what kind of effect, if any, the delta variant could have on Facebook usage.\n3. The regulatory outlook\nFacebook has been under the microscope of lawmakers and regulators worldwide since the company’s March 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which it was reported that a political consulting firm had improperly accessed the data of 87 million Facebook profiles in a bid to influence the 2016 presidential election.\nThis quarter included some major news regarding all of that regulatory pressure.\nMost notably,Facebook scored a major win in late June when a federal court dismissed an antitrust complaint from the Federal Trade Commission against the company as well as a parallel case brought by 48 state attorneys general. Those fights aren’t quite over just yet, but they certainly relieved some of Facebook’s headaches.\nFurther, the company came under more scrutiny in July when the Biden administration scolded the social media company for not doing enough to combat misinformation on its services that discourage people from taking Covid-19 vaccines. Not long ago, the talk on Wall Street was all about the tech giant’s uncharacteristically underperforming stock, especially when compared to some of the other mega-caps’ displays in 2021.\nWith shares hitting an all-time high this week and the gap in performance narrowing over the past month, that conversation can now be put to rest.\nThe uptick has coincided with reports Apple has boosted the production rate of its iPhones, instructing manufacturers to build 90 million iPhones this year, a 20% increase on the 75 million units it produced last year.\nThe renewed optimism in all things Apple is not surprising to J.P. Morgan’s Samik Chatterjee. The analyst recently told investors Apple is well set up to outperform in 2H21. In fact, the growing confidence means Chatterjee has added Apple to the firm’s Analyst Focus List as “a Growth idea.”\n“The recent momentum led by better market share, drives us to also estimate higher sustainable volumes in future quarters, leading us to see a path to Apple outperforming investor expectations over a longer time horizon rather than just the upcoming earnings print,” the 5-star analyst said, confirming Apple is also a Top Pick.\nTo reflect the increase in build rates, Chatterjee has “modestly” increased iPhone volume expectations, but of more importance to the analyst is the “path to upside” for the shares in the medium-term.\nThis is because of the potential for better iPhone 12 sales but also due to what Chatterjee considers are low expectations from the iPhone 13’s fall launch, which could create “another leg to the upside opportunity.”\nIt’s a potent mix which is given additional allure with the launch of the iPhone SE3 next year and means Apple can “not only pleasantly surprise with a more robust iPhone 13 cycle, but also has the opportunity to drive material upside to consensus expectations for FY22.”\nTo this end, Chatterjee rates Apple shares an Overweight (i.e. Buy), while slightly lifting the price target from $170 to $175. The revised figure implying shares will add 19.5% from current levels.\nSo, that’s J.P. Morgan’s view, what does the rest of the Street have in mind for Apple? Based on 20 Buys, 5 Holds and 2 Sells, the stock currently has a Moderate Buy consensus rating. The forecast is for shares to appreciate by 8% over the coming months, given the average price target clocks in at $158.62.\nTo find good ideas for tech stocks trading at attractive valuations, visit TipRanks’ Best Stocks to Buy, a newly launched tool that unites all of TipRanks’ equity insights.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":122,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9928653296,"gmtCreate":1671271613215,"gmtModify":1676538518270,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$ value","listText":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$ value","text":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$ value","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fb7888e2cc7d404c645d231c693c42cd","width":"720","height":"1295"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9928653296","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":105,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9901912775,"gmtCreate":1659111074397,"gmtModify":1676536259479,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$PayPal(PYPL)$bad","listText":"$PayPal(PYPL)$bad","text":"$PayPal(PYPL)$bad","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/f440d41c0d6c3b9a0950637a7a07a3a6","width":"720","height":"1280"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9901912775","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":118,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9081020770,"gmtCreate":1650170287556,"gmtModify":1676534662574,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nope","listText":"Nope","text":"Nope","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9081020770","repostId":"2227986989","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2227986989","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1650153593,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2227986989?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-17 07:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Charts That Show Why It's Time to Buy the Dip in Meta Platforms' Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2227986989","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Trading at merely 16 times free cash flow, this tech giant is a bargain buy.","content":"

Meta Platforms ( FB -2.24% ), formerly known as Facebook, has been treated harshly by the stock market lately. Because of this, Meta Platforms stock is trading at an all-time low when valued from a price-to-free cash flow standpoint.

While these concerns are real, a ratio of 16 times free cash flow is far too low for a high-quality business like this. However, he is committed to bringing about this change through the company's Reality Labs division, which provides "augmented and virtual reality related consumer hardware, software, and content." Meta broke out this division for the first time in the fourth quarter, and the results weren't pretty. In 2021, the division lost $10.2 billion on revenue of $2.3 billion. It's also not slowing down on expenses. In 2021, Meta spent $71 billion on operating expenses, but management is guiding for $90 billion to $95 billion in 2022.

Revenue is expected to be negatively affected by recent iOS privacy changes from Apple. This has caused Meta customers to see a lower return on investment (ROI) for their ad campaigns. Meta claimed in the Q4 conference call that the changes disproportionately affect smaller businesses. With less successful advertisements, companies reduce their budgets and focus on other areas.

Meta is also worried about ByteDance's TikTok social media app. While Facebook announced Reels to offer a similar product and effectively compete, TikTok is still capturing a large chunk of the social media market share. For the first time ever as a public company, Facebook's daily active users fell from the previous quarter.

With rising costs, revenue growth pressures, and a strong competitor, the future looks grim for Meta Platforms.

Valuations suggest this stock is a bargain

Are these concerns truly valid? After all, Meta Platforms is still the most dominant social media company and is highly profitable. Management also expects revenue growth of 3% to 11% for Q1, and investors will find out on April 27 if Meta hit that guidance.

If Meta can reach the top end of the revenue guidance and continue with 30% expense growth, the company will still be cheaply valued. In 2021, Meta Platforms produced $38.4 billion in free cash flow (FCF) on revenue of $118 billion, an impressive 33% margin. If sales grow 10% for the year and its FCF margin is affected by the $21.5 billion in increased operating costs, the company could generate $35.2 billion in free cash flow.

With no stock price appreciation, this would value the stock at 17.2 times 2022 free cash flow. This valuation is still lower than it's been at any time Meta's been a public company and is cheap compared to other companies in the market.

FB Price to Free Cash Flow data by YCharts

To add another factor to Meta's value proposition, it has been aggressively repurchasing shares. Doing this, it is making each share more valuable by retiring old shares. This catalyst will further decrease its valuation by reducing the number of shares outstanding. With Meta repurchasing more than $44 billion in stock last year, the company could repeat that program in 2022 and lower shares outstanding by about 7%.

When is the best time to buy?

Meta Platforms may be facing some headwinds, but the company is one of the most financially powerful in the world, with solid cash flow generation and more than $44 billion in cash with no debt on the balance sheet. The market doesn't leave bargains around like this very often, and investors should act accordingly. Alternatively, you could also wait until Q1 earnings are reported on April 27, but any positive news will likely send this stock soaring, as it has only experienced negative headlines recently.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Charts That Show Why It's Time to Buy the Dip in Meta Platforms' Stock
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Charts That Show Why It's Time to Buy the Dip in Meta Platforms' Stock\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-04-17 07:59 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Meta Platforms ( FB -2.24% ), formerly known as Facebook, has been treated harshly by the stock market lately. In 2021, the division lost $10.2 billion on revenue of $2.3 billion. It's also not slowing down on expenses. In 2021, Meta spent $71 billion on operating expenses, but management is guiding for $90 billion to $95 billion in 2022.Revenue is expected to be negatively affected by recent iOS privacy changes from Apple. This has caused Meta customers to see a lower return on investment (ROI) for their ad campaigns. Meta claimed in the Q4 conference call that the changes disproportionately affect smaller businesses. With less successful advertisements, companies reduce their budgets and focus on other areas.Image source: Getty Images.Meta is also worried about ByteDance's TikTok social media app. While Facebook announced Reels to offer a similar product and effectively compete, TikTok is still capturing a large chunk of the social media market share. For the first time ever as a public company, Facebook's daily active users fell from the previous quarter. With rising costs, revenue growth pressures, and a strong competitor, the future looks grim for Meta Platforms.Valuations suggest this stock is a bargainAre these concerns truly valid? This valuation is still lower than it's been at any time Meta's been a public company and is cheap compared to other companies in the market.FB Price to Free Cash Flow data by YChartsTo add another factor to Meta's value proposition, it has been aggressively repurchasing shares. Doing this, it is making each share more valuable by retiring old shares. This catalyst will further decrease its valuation by reducing the number of shares outstanding. With Meta repurchasing more than $44 billion in stock last year, the company could repeat that program in 2022 and lower shares outstanding by about 7%.When is the best time to buy?Meta Platforms may be facing some headwinds, but the company is one of the most financially powerful in the world, with solid cash flow generation and more than $44 billion in cash with no debt on the balance sheet. The market doesn't leave bargains around like this very often, and investors should act accordingly. Alternatively, you could also wait until Q1 earnings are reported on April 27, but any positive news will likely send this stock soaring, as it has only experienced negative headlines recently.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":139,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":863099486,"gmtCreate":1632326873345,"gmtModify":1676530754897,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Crazy","listText":"Crazy","text":"Crazy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/863099486","repostId":"1185018388","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185018388","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1632325664,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185018388?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-22 23:47","market":"other","language":"en","title":"Toast opens for trading at $62.6, up about 56% from IPO price","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185018388","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"(Sept 22) Restaurant-focused tech company stands to be valued at $30 billion based on recent trading","content":"
(Sept 22) Restaurant-focused tech company stands to be valued at $30 billion based on recent trading.
\n
Toast, Inc.shares popped 56% in their trading debut Wednesday, marking a warm Wall Street welcome for the maker of restaurant-focused software and payment technology.
\n

\n
Shares of Toast opened at $65.26, above their initial-public-offering price of $40, which itself came in above a raised expected range of $34 to $36. The ultimate goal is to find the elusive “10 bagger”—a stock that returns 10 times what you paid for it.
\n
Wall Street analyst notes and client letters from investment pros are replete with compounder references. Many of the next generation of value managers, identified in a Barron’s cover story in May, are seeking such shares, rather than the traditional value fare of cheap stocks.
\n
Their search has become more challenging, because buyers are paying lofty prices for high-growth stories. But the shares, around $185, are off nearly 30% after the company recently cut 2021 financial guidance, citing Covid-related staffing and cost issues, mostly in acquired hospice operations. The 2021 earnings estimate is now $6.13 a share, down from nearly $7. The stock trades for 30 times projected 2021 profits. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.
\n
Amyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.
\n
Using genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.
\n
Barron’s wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.
\n
“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.
\n
Booz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.
\n
“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons fund. He sees Booz Allen as capable of generating 9% to 10% annual growth in revenue and yearly gains of 15% to 16% in earnings, in line with its historical performance. The stock is off 20% from its peak of $100, amid concerns about more restrained military spending. Hunt Transport Services(JBHT) is a leader in intermodal freight, which involves the fuel-efficient movement of trucks over rail lines. It has been one of the most successful trucking companies. Its stock has risen 30-fold over the past 20 years, to a recent $173. “It has an incredible franchise,” says Henry Ellenbogen, chief investment officer at Durable Capital Partners and a member of the Barron’s Roundtable.
\n
J.B. Hunt’s relationship with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad gives it a strong position in intermodal freight, he notes. J.B. Hunt also has a growing business taking over the trucking operations of smaller companies. And it is involved in digital freight brokerage—matching truckers with shipping customers.
\n
Ellenbogen says the stock is reasonable at 22 times estimated 2022 profits, given a mid-teens annual growth outlook for earnings.
\n
Marriott Vacations Worldwide(VAC) is one of the top companies in the timeshare industry. It has 700,000 owners, a resilient business model with significant revenue from fees, and more exposure than its peers to luxury properties in places including Hawaii and Orlando, Fla.
\n
“It has the best customer base, with the highest spending and an impeccable balance sheet,” says David Baron, a manager of the Baron Focused Growth fund. Marriott Vacations, whose shares recently were trading around $145, should reinstate its dividend later this year, he adds.
\n
The shares, Baron argues, are cheap at a 11% free-cash-flow yield, based on 2022 estimates. He says that the stock, little changed since 2018, could produce 20% annual returns for shareholders in the coming years.
\n
SiteOne Landscape Supply(SITE) is the country’s top supplier of landscaping products, with ample opportunity to expand, given that it has just a 13% market share in a highly fragmented industry.
\n

\n
“It’s growing organically and has lots of acquisition opportunities,” says Columbia’s Cole, who considers the company to be capable of 10% to 15% annual revenue growth.
\n
The stock, around $197, has a rich valuation, trading for 43 times projected 2022 earnings of $4.54 a share.
\n
Staar Surgical(STAA) has developed an implantable lens to correct myopia (nearsightedness). That addresses a potentially huge market, given the rising global incidence of that vision problem. The company expects the lens, which has been available in Europe and Asia for at least five years, to be on the U.S. market in the fourth quarter, pending Food and Drug Administration approval.
\n
“It could do substantial volumes,’’ says Doug Brodie, a global manager at Baillie Gifford. “It’s early in a journey and is largely devoid of competition.”
\n
Lenses for both eyes can be implanted in less than an hour, and they don’t involve the removal of the natural lenses. But the market opportunity is enormous: Some five billion people worldwide could have myopia by 2050.
\n
Stitch Fix(SFIX) has developed a subscription service for clothing, shoes, and other accessories and boasts over four million customers.
\n
“This could be the Nordstrom of the future,” says Mario Cibelli, chief investment officer at Marathon Partners Equity Management, a Stitch Fix holder. “This a potentially huge market and nobody is addressing it in the same way.” Using a staff of 6,000 personal stylists and lots of data, Stitch Fix seeks to identify subscriber tastes to generate high satisfaction and limit returns on packages sent at intervals and determined by subscribers.
\n
Its shares, around $44, are down 60% from their level earlier in the year, on investors’ worries about potential churn and the business’s ultimate profitability.
\n
Yet Cibelli sees revenue growth of 20%-plus annually, opportunities outside its current U.S. and U.K. markets, and a potentially very profitable business in two to three years.
\n
Trex(TREX) is the top producer of a high-end wood alternative for decks that comes from 95% recycled material, making it an eco-friendly housing play. Earnings are expected to climb by about 20% in 2022 and at a similar pace in the following years. “If you roll the clock forward three years, it doesn’t look as expensive,” he says.
\n
Upwork(UPWK), an online marketplace for freelance workers, is favored by Baillie Gifford’s Brodie, who says it offers a play on the greater acceptance of freelancers by businesses.
\n
The shares, recently around $44, aren’t cheap. Upwork is valued at $5.7 billion, or more than 10 times this year’s projected sales of nearly $500 million. Sales are expected to rise by 30%-plus this year and 25% for 2022.
\n
“Freelancers are more accepted by small to midsize business, but they’ve been frowned on by the HR departments at large businesses,” Brodie says. The ultimate goal is to find the elusive “10 bagger”—a stock that returns 10 times what you paid for it.\nWall Street analyst notes and client letters from investment pros are replete with compounder references. Many of the next generation of value managers, identified in a Barron’s cover story in May, are seeking such shares, rather than the traditional value fare of cheap stocks.\nTheir search has become more challenging, because buyers are paying lofty prices for high-growth stories. Really big winners are scarce. Only about 35 companies in each of a long series of 10-year periods have compounded their stock prices at 20% or more annually, resulting in at least a sixfold increase, according to Durable Capital Partners.\nMany investors are happy to stick with large, well-known compounders, such as Alphabet(ticker: GOOGL),Mastercard(MA),UnitedHealth Group(UNH), and Eli Lilly(LLY).\nBarron’s sought to identify smaller candidates. We talked to investment managers and came up with an eclectic list of 10 stocks, most with market values under $10 billion. Here are the selections, in alphabetical order:\nStrong and Steady Wins the RaceHere are 10 stocks that growth investors have identified as being able to generate consistently high growth in revenues or profits for many years.\n\n\n\nCompany / Ticker\nRecent Price\nYTD Change\n2021E P/E\n2021E Price/Sales\n2022E P/E\n2022E Price/Sales\nLT Growth Rate*\nMarket Value (bil)\nComment\n\n\n\n\nAmedysis / AMED\n$185.15\n-37%\n30.2\n2.7\n27.7\n2.4\n10.5%\n$6.3\nLeader in home health care\n\n\nAmyris / AMRS\n13.64\n121\nNM\n10.4\nNM\n9.7\nNA\n4.1\nLeading company in synthetic biology\n\n\nBooz Allen Hamilton Holding / BAH\n81.73\n-6\n19.4\n1.3\n17.7\n1.2\n8.6\n11.0\nDefense-department consultant\n\n\nJ.B. Cole says that the company remains capable of generating 10% annual gains in earnings per share.\nAmyris(AMRS) is a leader in synthetic biology. It fans say its opportunity is to supplant, in an eco-friendly way, a range of products now made from petrochemicals, animals, and plants.\nUsing genetically re-engineered yeast and sugar cane, Amyris produces such things as squalane, a high-end moisturizer formerly made from shark livers; vanillin, the flavoring for vanilla; and a no-calorie sweetener normally derived from plants. The stock trades around $13.\nBarron’s wrote favorably on the company in July. Amyris sees sales reaching $2 billion by 2025, up from an estimated $400 million this year, driven by its consumer brands.\n“The world needs clean chemistry, and Amyris is the point on the spear to create it,” says Randy Baron, a portfolio manager at Pinnacle Associates, which owns Amyris shares. He thinks they could hit $75 by the end of 2022.\nBooz Allen Hamilton Holding(BAH) is an important consultant to the Defense Department and other agencies. The U.S. government accounted for 97% of its revenue in its latest fiscal year. Booz Allen has built robust ties to the government over the years by providing an array of services, like cybersecurity. Its stock trades around $81, for a 1.8% yield.\n“It has built a strong, partnership-like culture and has a long record of steady growth,” says Josh Spencer, manager of the T. Spencer sees the pullback as a buying opportunity, with the stock valued at less than 20 times earnings.\nJ.B. Cathie Wood's flagship fund was making more moves with some of its components than investors could see in the firm's daily trades e-mail. A number of months later, these behind the scenes moves have continued, but they just took another step further that really brings into question the firm's supposed transparency.

As a reminder, the ARKK ETF was effectively selling certain names behind the scenes. On a daily basis back then, 7 names were being underweighted when it came to inflows or redemptions. For example, if ARKK experienced an inflow equal to say 1% of its assets, these stocks might only get an inflow equal to say 0.3% of their previous day's position, or they might not have an increase at all. On days where there were redemptions, these select names would see a larger decrease in their positions, on a percentage basis, than the rest of the fund's holdings.

These unusual moves weren't just happening in the flagship fund, however. I also saw it happening in the ARK Genomic Revolution ETF (ARKG) that had some similar components to ARKK. Teladoc (TDOC) and CRISPR Therapeutics (CRSP) saw this underweighting happen in both ETFs, for example, and we're talking about quite significant share amounts that accumulated over time. It was hard to listen to Cathie Wood be so positive on Teladoc when she was effectively trying to reduce her firm's holding of the name without anyone really knowing unless you tracked every position on a daily basis.

Since I started tracking these occurrences earlier this year, I estimate about $300 million worth of stock has been impacted by these behind the scenes moves. That number is likely a bit low considering I've only followed ARKK's daily changes in depth, with just a small focus on ARKG for a couple of weeks. If this situation is also happening in any of the firm's other four active ETFs, we could be talking about half a billion dollars or more of unusual activity. This is just what I've seen so far in 2022, as this also happened last year as well, and we know the ARK ETFs have been around for several years now.

Cathie Wood and ARK Invest like to boast how transparent they are, but this activity would seem to go against that notion to quite a degree. Unfortunately, it seems the team there has taken this situation to another level this week. In the graphic below, you can see position changes for ARKK on Monday for a chunk of the ETF's holdings. The rest of the names not seen also showed a redemption equal to 0.40% of their Friday holding size.

ARKK Changes August 8th(ARK Invest)

You will notice that Invitae (NVTA) shows a redemption of 70 basis points for the day, unlike the rest of the ETF's components that were down on Monday by 40 basis points. The genetics company has seen its shares drop in recent weeks after a major revenue warning put its growth story in question for the next couple of years. Cathie Wood has been a major supporter of Invitae in the past couple of years, accumulating a position from the double digits down to the low single digits where shares currently trade.

This small genetics firm is one of a handful of names where ARK Invest owns more than 10% of the entire company through its 8 total active and index ETFs. Invitae was one of the original 7 names back in March and April that saw this unusual inflow or redemption activity, and this pattern has continued with the stock for a number of months now. Monday, however, was different as you may have noticed above in the daily e-mail column. If you missed it, here's what ARK Invest detailed for its ARKK trades on Monday.

ARKK August 8th Trades(ARK Invest)

So to recap what happened here - on Monday, the ARKK ETF increased its allocation to Invitae by more than 626,000 shares. On the same day, Cathie Wood and her team reduced the Invitae allocation by 30 basis points of its prior trading day's position by underweighting it in the redemption basket. Thus, it appears that ARKK is trying to be positive on Invitae by showcasing it in the daily trades e-mail, but reducing the position behind the scenes a bit more due to redemptions than the rest of the ETF's holdings.

I should note that during these three major activities of unusual activity, the behind the scenes activity for Invitae has roughly equaled 3.6 million shares. This means that had the inflow or redemption amount on a percentage basis been the same for Invitae as the rest of the ETF's holdings on a daily basis, the ARKK position in Invitae would be nearly 20% more than its current roughly 18.4 million shares. That's quite a significant difference that most investors may not be aware of.

The idea of transparency here gains greater importance as Cathie Wood's active ETFs have performed terribly over the past 18 months or so. As pointed out on Twitter, 21 of the flagship fund's holdings have already reported a revenue, EPS, or subscriber miss during this earnings season so far, or they issued lower than expected revenue guidance for their current fiscal quarter and or year. With the dramatic pullback in ARKK shares from its nearly $160 peak to the high $40s currently, the ETF is now trailing the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) by more than 75 percentage points since inception as seen below.

ARKK vs. QQQ Performance (Yahoo! Finance)

In the end, the behind the scenes activity in ARKK has continued, but the fund took an extra step forward on Monday. The active ETF firm detailed that it increased its allocation by over 626 thousand shares of genetics company Invitae during the day, but also meaningfully underweighted the name for its redemption basket on Monday. This essentially makes it seem like Cathie Wood and her team are buying and selling the name at the same time, but really only highlighting the purchase activity in a more public way (the daily trades e-mail). In total, we're now talking about hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of stock that has been impacted in less than six months. It's not a good look for a firm that continues to talk about its tremendous transparency, especially at a time when its performance is very disappointing.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
ARKK: Cathie Wood Now Playing Both Sides
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nARKK: Cathie Wood Now Playing Both Sides\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-11 23:30 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryBehind the scenes movements continue in multiple ETFs.Flagship fund ARKK is now essentially buying and selling in the same day.Transparency is a key as ARKK ETF's performance continues to ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"ARKK":"ARK Innovation ETF"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4532392-arkk-cathie-wood-now-playing-both-sides","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1141311315","content_text":"SummaryBehind the scenes movements continue in multiple ETFs.Flagship fund ARKK is now essentially buying and selling in the same day.Transparency is a key as ARKK ETF's performance continues to deteriorate.Back in late March, I detailed how there was some unusual activity going onwith the ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEARCA:ARKK). With the dramatic pullback in ARKK shares from its nearly $160 peak to the high $40s currently, the ETF is now trailing the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) by more than 75 percentage points since inception as seen below.ARKK vs. QQQ Performance (Yahoo! Finance)In the end, the behind the scenes activity in ARKK has continued, but the fund took an extra step forward on Monday. The active ETF firm detailed that it increased its allocation by over 626 thousand shares of genetics company Invitae during the day, but also meaningfully underweighted the name for its redemption basket on Monday. This essentially makes it seem like Cathie Wood and her team are buying and selling the name at the same time, but really only highlighting the purchase activity in a more public way (the daily trades e-mail). In total, we're now talking about hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of stock that has been impacted in less than six months. It's not a good look for a firm that continues to talk about its tremendous transparency, especially at a time when its performance is very disappointing.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":38,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9076713963,"gmtCreate":1657907443852,"gmtModify":1676536079921,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$AMD(AMD)$buy?","listText":"$AMD(AMD)$buy?","text":"$AMD(AMD)$buy?","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/622e9971e21a8b2378cc7c7c26b42fc4","width":"720","height":"1472"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9076713963","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":59,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9056951916,"gmtCreate":1654926455635,"gmtModify":1676535536195,"author":{"id":"3581908140966834","authorId":"3581908140966834","name":"ssky","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c557c3de7ee44da7b994d97552ac2735","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581908140966834","authorIdStr":"3581908140966834"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$good","listText":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$good","text":"$Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing(00388)$good","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/16c8f47f6b1e5e3dcd028d33a080c022","width":"720","height":"1455"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9056951916","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":60,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
