Cash","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2317481145","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Singapore-based ride hailing firm cuts debt by more than halfGrab is generating interest savings, CF","content":"

Singapore-based ride hailing firm cuts debt by more than half

Grab is generating interest savings, CFO Peter Oey says

Grab Holdings Ltd. on Monday said it prepaid $600 million in debt ahead of a 2026 maturity, taking advantage of excess cash on its balance sheet.

The Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery company completed the transaction last week, bringing its debt under an outstanding term loan to $517 million, down from the previous balance of $1.117 billion. Grab also has about $200 million in other bank debt.

“Grab is taking advantage of our healthy cash position to reduce our gross debt balance and generate interest savings, given the macroeconomic environment,” said Chief Financial Officer Peter Oey.

Grab in November bought back about $750 million in debt - part of its $2 billion term loan B - using a Dutch auction tender offer, a format in which the auctioneer sets an opening price that decreases until bids are made. That allowed the company to buy back debt at an average of 98.4 cents on the dollar, Oey said.

“The cost of capital is getting very expensive,” Oey said, pointing to recent interest-rate increases by the Federal Reserve and other central banks. Grab recently took out a $500 million hedge with an interest-rate cap that gives the company full protection against rate changes within a certain range, and partial protection for anything above that, Oey said.

Nasdaq-listed Grab, which has a US investor base but generates all of its revenues in Southeast Asia, is bracing for rates to go higher at the Fed’s next meeting later this month, the CFO said.

“Every month that goes by, the interest rate could go up,’ Oey said. The company declined to comment on what its ideal amount of debt would be.

“At this point, we do not have plans for further debt repurchases or prepayment,” Oey said, adding that Grab will continue to monitor the cost of capital. The company doesn’t have outstanding bonds.

Grab during its latest earnings call in February said it would bring forward its goal to break even to the fourth quarter of 2023, from the second half of 2024. Efforts to rein in spending, reduce headcount in certain regional corporate functions and increase operational efficiencies are paying off, the company’s CFO said.

Grab is targeting losses for adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of between $275 million and $325 million for 2023, compared with an adjusted ebitda loss of $793 million in 2022. It reported a loss for the year of $1.74 billion, down from $3.55 billion at the end of 2021.

Shares of Grab are down 2.5% this year, trailing a 12% increase in the Nasdaq Composite Index.

The company’s net cash holdings, at $5.1 billion at the end of December, are sufficient to cover any funding needs, CFO Oey said.

Paying down more of its floating rate term loan should help the company reduce cash flow volatility, which is important at a time of rising interest rates, Nathan Naidu, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, said in an email.

“Grab’s move suggests it has excess funds and paying down the term loan will save interest costs, which will help speed the path to profitability by saving on cost,” said Angus Mackintosh, an analyst at Smartkarma.

Some of the company’s peers are doing the opposite, Mackintosh said, to “extend runways of available liquid funds.” Uber Technologies Inc., the US-based ride hailing leader, last week said in a filing it had borrowed $1.75 billion under a term loan agreement. Uber didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Investors not only value debt reduction efforts, but also companies that manage their capital efficiently, Mackintosh said. “If the company is paying relatively high interest on a debt instrument that is surplus to requirements, then reducing that exposure makes sense from a cost-saving perspective,” he said in an email.

Grab will likely achieve its earlier break-even goal even in a slowing economy, the analyst said, as it is cutting down on the amount of incentives used to entice customers. The company also benefits from the recent rebound in demand for commuting and travel, Naidu said.

","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Grab also has about $200 million in other bank debt.“Grab is taking advantage of our healthy cash position to reduce our gross debt balance and generate interest savings, given the macroeconomic environment,” said Chief Financial Officer Peter Oey.Grab in November bought back about $750 million in debt - part of its $2 billion term loan B - using a Dutch auction tender offer, a format in which the auctioneer sets an opening price that decreases until bids are made. That allowed the company to buy back debt at an average of 98.4 cents on the dollar, Oey said.“The cost of capital is getting very expensive,” Oey said, pointing to recent interest-rate increases by the Federal Reserve and other central banks. Grab recently took out a $500 million hedge with an interest-rate cap that gives the company full protection against rate changes within a certain range, and partial protection for anything above that, Oey said.Nasdaq-listed Grab, which has a US investor base but generates all of its revenues in Southeast Asia, is bracing for rates to go higher at the Fed’s next meeting later this month, the CFO said.“Every month that goes by, the interest rate could go up,’ Oey said. The company declined to comment on what its ideal amount of debt would be.“At this point, we do not have plans for further debt repurchases or prepayment,” Oey said, adding that Grab will continue to monitor the cost of capital. The company doesn’t have outstanding bonds.Grab during its latest earnings call in February said it would bring forward its goal to break even to the fourth quarter of 2023, from the second half of 2024. Efforts to rein in spending, reduce headcount in certain regional corporate functions and increase operational efficiencies are paying off, the company’s CFO said.Grab is targeting losses for adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of between $275 million and $325 million for 2023, compared with an adjusted ebitda loss of $793 million in 2022. It reported a loss for the year of $1.74 billion, down from $3.55 billion at the end of 2021.Shares of Grab are down 2.5% this year, trailing a 12% increase in the Nasdaq Composite Index. The company’s net cash holdings, at $5.1 billion at the end of December, are sufficient to cover any funding needs, CFO Oey said.Paying down more of its floating rate term loan should help the company reduce cash flow volatility, which is important at a time of rising interest rates, Nathan Naidu, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, said in an email.“Grab’s move suggests it has excess funds and paying down the term loan will save interest costs, which will help speed the path to profitability by saving on cost,” said Angus Mackintosh, an analyst at Smartkarma. Some of the company’s peers are doing the opposite, Mackintosh said, to “extend runways of available liquid funds.” Uber Technologies Inc., the US-based ride hailing leader, last week said in a filing it had borrowed $1.75 billion under a term loan agreement. Uber didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.Investors not only value debt reduction efforts, but also companies that manage their capital efficiently, Mackintosh said. “If the company is paying relatively high interest on a debt instrument that is surplus to requirements, then reducing that exposure makes sense from a cost-saving perspective,” he said in an email.Grab will likely achieve its earlier break-even goal even in a slowing economy, the analyst said, as it is cutting down on the amount of incentives used to entice customers. The company also benefits from the recent rebound in demand for commuting and travel, Naidu said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":418,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9983535662,"gmtCreate":1666272210756,"gmtModify":1676537733533,"author":{"id":"3581938203401770","authorId":"3581938203401770","name":"AllanHSC","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/af1eca8549b3972a4d10d5f317b913b9","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581938203401770","authorIdStr":"3581938203401770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Crazy","listText":"Crazy","text":"Crazy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9983535662","repostId":"1175220136","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1175220136","pubTimestamp":1665736038,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1175220136?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-14 16:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"China EV Play XPEV Stock Has Not Hit a Bottom Yet","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175220136","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"On paper, XPeng(XPEV) is 'cheaper' than other publicly-traded Chinese electric vehicle stocks. The lo","content":"

On paper, XPeng(XPEV) is 'cheaper' than other publicly-traded Chinese electric vehicle stocks.

The low price hardly makes it a bargain, given this company is facing even more challenges than its peers.

XPEV is and will continue to be a "falling knife" situation, which makes avoiding it your best move.

I can see why contrarian investors may be interested in XPeng(NYSE:XPEV) stock. Shares in China-based electric vehicle (or EV) companies have fallen out of favor among investors, but the shift in sentiment has been the most dramatic among this particular name.

As a result of its extended price decline since June, Xpeng has become seemingly undervalued, if you compare its valuation (on a price/sales, or P/S, basis) to that of comparable names.

But while it’s true XPeng trades at a discount to its peers, that doesn’t make it a bargain. There’s a reason why XPEV trades at a lower sales multiple. This company is facing even more challenges than the other high-profile China-based EV makers with U.S. stock market listings.

It’s not an opportune move to try and call a bottom in this stock, as it’s likely to become “cheaper” from here. Here’s why.

XPEV Stock and its Discounted Valuation

XPeng stock currently has a P/S ratio of around 1.9. Li Auto(NASDAQ:LI) and Nio(NYSE:NIO), the other two China EV stocks popular with U.S. investors, each have P/S ratios around 3.5.

Given that analyst forecasts call for this company to experience a similarly-high level of sales growth next year, this may at glance create the assumption that XPEV stock is mispriced. However, take a closer look at the details, and that’s clearly not the case.

XPeng isn’t the only Chinese EV maker facing challenges. China’s economic slowdown has only started to affect EV demand, but the situation could intensify in the coming months. AsBarron’sreported on Oct 1., the latest delivery figures for Li Auto and Nio may signal that both names are struggling to take their sales to the next level.

But while Li and Nio may be facing growth challenges, XPeng’s deliveries are in decline. As I discussed on Sep. 30, from June through August, XPeng’s monthly vehicle delivery numbers dropped from15,295 to 9,578.

For September, deliveries fell yet again, to just 8,468 vehicles. Declining sales, plus worsening fundamentals, justify XPEV’s discounted (and declining) valuation.

Why XPeng Could Keep Dropping

It’s not only falling delivery numbers that make XPEV stock a less appealing opportunity than its peers. This company is also facing the issue of widening losses.

Over the past year, XPeng’s quarterly net losses more than doubled, from$185 million to $403.1 million, or from 23 cents to 47 cents per share. Sell-side estimates call for GAAP losses to come in at a similar amount this quarter (48 cents).

If the company fails to make progress in getting out of the red, shares will continue to trend lower. There’s a good chance of this happening for two reasons.

First, it’s debatable whether the launch of XPeng’s latest model, the G9 Flagship SUV, will help to reverse the aforementioned deliveries/sales decline.

So far, sales of newer models have failed to counter declining sales among older models. This could continue to be the case, especially given decreasingly-favorable conditions in the Chinese EV market. It’ll be difficult for Xpeng to narrow losses if sales keep dropping.

Second, despite the challenges in its home market, XPeng is moving ahead with plans to expand into Europe. This will likely create initial losses, piled atop continued losses for the company’s existing operations.

Bottom Line on XPEV Stock

Based on the most recently reported financial and delivery figures for XPeng, there’s little to indicate that this EV maker is on the verge of turning a corner. In fact, there’s a lot more out there pointing toward continued deterioration of its fundamentals. This in turn will drive a further move lower for shares.

That’s not to say this stock is heading to zero. XPeng currently has sufficient cash and short-term investments on hand (totaling $4.82 billion) to sustain itself for the next few years.

However, after falling nearly 75% over the past twelve months, depending on the severity of China’s in-progress economic downturn, another 75% drop may be in the cards.

XPEV stock has already hurt plenty of bottom-fishers, who’ve attempted to catch this “falling knife” since the summer. Holdings complete their long-awaited merger. As of tomorrow, Greenidge Class A common stock shares will begin trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker GREE. This morning, though, saw shares of SPRT stock continue the trend of plunging further, despite the merger’s continuous development.
\n
As we’ve noted previously, SPRT stock has continued to decline over the past week, despite a spike during the week before. Investors chased up shares earlier in September upon news that shareholders would soon vote to approve the merger. The actual vote, though, did not have the same affect, as shares began to decline. Since then, this trend hasn’t stopped.
\n
As of this writing, shares of SPRT stock are down 30.8% for the day. After briefly surging late in the day on Sept. 9, they have only kept declining. Yesterday saw the stock fall by 9%.
\n
What It Means
\n
The deal received overwhelming support from shareholders when it came time to vote, but in the days since, some analysts have expressed concern for the company’s long-term future.
\n
Some concerns are certainly justified, although part of SPRT stock’s poor performance of late can be attributed to pure uncertainty. The deal is a bit unorthodox given the two companies it involves and how different their dealings are. Nonetheless, this area which has some concerned can also prove beneficial to Support.com and likewise, its shareholders.
\n
It should be noted that a company like Suport.com saw merging with a company like Greenidge as its best chance at staying relevant in an ever-changing market. The latter is poised to become the first publicly tradedBitcoin(CCC:BTC-USD) mining company with its own power plant, an area that could allow them to grow considerably. The move has beencalleda Hail Mary pass for Support.com but if that’s true, it’s certainly a well-calculated pass that makes sense at this point in the game.
\n
Let’s also not forget that while this merger dragged out, Support.com was able to garner meme stock status, a rare feat for a company with a business model as boring as providing digital human resource tools. Say what you will about Greenidge, but merging with it makes Support.com unquestionably more interesting.
\n
What’s Next for These Companies?
\n
Support.com stock has seen plenty of volatility and it may not be over yet, but that doesn’t mean that the company won’t have plenty of opportunity to grow once GREE begins trading and markets can move forward. Tomorrow will hopefully mean the end of this uncertainty, allowing us to finally assess how SPRT stock will perform in a post-merger world.
\n
The stock is drawing a lot of criticism right now, but we shouldn’t be so quick to write it off until we see what GREE will do. cryptocurr","content":"
Binance Holdings Ltd. is phasing out support for stock tokens just a few months after the cryptocurrency exchange started to offer the product.
\n
The products, which were launched in April and are issued and sold by CM-Equity AG, are tokenized versions of stocks like Apple Inc., Tesla Inc. and Coinbase Global Inc. Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission said Friday that it considers the tokens securities and that no Binance affiliates are licensed or registered to conduct “regulated activity” in Hong Kong.
\n
Stock tokens attracted concerns almost immediately.
