Massive discounts and trade-in offers from US carriers, in some cases amounting to a free device, are available. And the company continues to offer iPhones at a wide range of price points to appeal to more customers, with or without any groundbreaking new features or design changes this year.
\n
\"Apple has become the king of the 'good, better, best' portfolio with a phone at every relevant price point, particularly given it typically keeps older models in its line-up for those that don't want to pay four figures for the latest and greatest new devices,\" said Ben Wood, chief analyst of market research firm CCS Insight. \"Add trade-in into the mix and it makes it possible to get customers signed up for a more expensive phone than they likely planned to purchase.\"
\n
Trade-in offers
\n
For people willing to trade in their existing iPhones and commit to a wireless plan for the next few years, the discounts are jaw dropping.
\n
AT&T (T), for example, is offering up to $1,000 toward a new iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max after a trade-in, while Verizon (VZ) is touting as much as $800 off any new iPhone, essentially paying for the cost of a 128 GB iPhone 13. The deals go on and on.
\n
Trade-ins remain a central strategy for both mobile carriers and phone makers to drive replacement sales. The catch, however, is that users will need to trade in relatively new devices.
\n
Trade-in offers also typically tie customers to a long contract that can include high-priced data plans. Carriers want to keep these users loyal rather than seeing them move to a competitor network -- and a discounted or free iPhone could be the right incentive to keep them there, according to David McQueen, a director at market research firm ABI Research. For Apple, it keeps customers deep within its ecosystem of products.
\n
Prices remain the same
\n
Not only did Apple avoid raising base prices on the iPhone, but it effectively lowered the cost of certain iPhones when factoring in higher entry-level storage options.
\n
As analysts at Goldman Sachs pointed out in a research note Wednesday, the price of the 128 GB and 256 GB iPhone \"was reduced when compared to those same storage capacities last year.\"
\n
The many colors of the iPhone 13
\n
So why not raise prices this year, knowing that Apple always seems to find customers willing to pay top dollar for its devices?
\n
\"I believe Apple is aware that it has hit a sweet spot with pricing and the marginal gain of slightly increasing prices versus the negative backlash it would face is not worth it,\" Wood said.
\n
More than that, he said Apple is focused on boosting revenue from the many premium services built around the iPhone, such as iCloud storage, Apple Music and Fitness+.
\n
'Good, better, best'
\n
When Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone in 2007, there was one device and one entry price point for users. When Tim Cook took over as CEO, the options became more plentiful: big ones, smaller ones, mini ones, and prices that range from $399 for the iPhone SE all the way up to $1,599 for the 1 terabyte version of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
\n
The strategic effort to appeal to as many people as possible will become one of Cook's biggest legacies. It's also one that's translated to blockbuster sales. In April, Apple reported iPhone sales were at nearly $48 billion in the first quarter of 2021, a 65% increase over the same quarter last year, as consumers upgraded to iPhone 12 devices that offered 5G for the first time.
\n
Some things haven't changed from the Jobs days, however. There may be a much wider range of options and prices for iPhones, but Apple still doesn't come close to the lower-price tiers available on Android smartphones.
\n
\"The company still focuses on profits and revenue rather than chasing volume and market share, which was the same mantra under Steve Jobs,\" McQueen said. \"Perhaps Jobs wouldn't have launched as many device types at different sizes, as he always feared cannibalizing revenue streams -- notably across iPad mini and larger screened iPhones.\"
\n
Still, the number of iPhone variations and price points has only helped it appeal to more buyers -- and it most likely will again this year, too.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; -- and grow it powerfully, thanks to the magic of compounding. When your money is compounding in the stock market, it grows by increasing amounts over time, over the long run. So your $10,000 investment might grow by, say, $1,000 in your first year, but years or decades later, it can be growing by $100,000 per year -- especially if you've been adding to your investments over time, too.
\n
If you're ready to have your dollars grow for you in a rather magical way, here are three ways you might go about doing so.
\n
1. Dividend stocks
\n
Dividend-paying stocks are extra magical because they pack a one-two punch: As long as a dividend-paying company is healthy and executing its strategies well, its stock's value is likely to increase over time. Better still, the dividend it pays out regularly will also likely increase. The best dividend payers up their payouts fairly regularly -- often annually.
\n
Here are a few familiar names -- with their recent dividend yields and their dividend growth rates:
\n
\n
\n
\n

Stock

\n

Recent Dividend Yield

\n

5-Year Avg. Growth stocks
\n
Growth stocks are also magical in how powerfully they can grow your wealth. They're stocks of companies that have seen their sales grow at a rapid clip, and lately, their share prices have been matching that growth with big gains. Check out the following examples:
\n
\n
\n
\n

Stock

\n

10-Year Avg. And even that is well above the long-term average return of the market of roughly 10% annually.
\n
If your money grows at 10% annually, a $10,000 investment can become about $67,275 in 20 years. But if it grows at 20% annually, you'd end up with around $383,000!
\n
If you're thinking there must be a catch, you're right -- there is. It's easier said than done to identify today the companies that will have grown phenomenally 20 years from now. Plenty of very promising companies end up doing far worse than expected. So what should you do?
\n
Well, one good strategy is to invest in a bunch of them, so that the winners have a good chance of far outstripping the losers. Perhaps divide your money among at least 25 promising companies that you've studied and have confidence in. Then aim to hang on to them for at least five years -- because you don't want to bail out as soon as one falters. All great stocks have not gone up in a straight line.
\n
3. Index funds
\n
Another solid option for building long-term wealth in the stock market, fairly magically, is the easiest strategy of all -- just park many, most, or all of your long-term dollars in a low-fee broad-market index fund. Even Warren Buffett has recommended index funds for most investors who don't have the time, skill, or interest to study stocks and follow them closely over many years.
\n
It's not even much of a compromise, investing in index funds -- because they tend to outperform the vast majority of their actively managed mutual fund counterparts. In other words, all those highly paid Wall Street professionals have a hard time beating the overall market. Index funds are a terrific investment.
\n
However you do it, consider starting to invest in stocks soon -- because most of us need to be amassing a hefty sum to live off in retirement. You might keep a big chunk of money in dividend-paying stocks, invest in a big bunch of growth stocks, simply stick with plain vanilla index funds -- or act on all three strategies.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Investing Strategies to Grow Your Money Like Magic
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Investing Strategies to Grow Your Money Like Magic\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-01 21:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
I used to just save my money, until I realized I could grow it -- and grow it powerfully, thanks to the magic of compounding. There are a few reasons why contributing as much as you can to your retirement fund might not make sense, at least not some years. That's because a traditional 401(k) locks your money away until you are 59 ½. Early withdrawal is allowed, but only in limited circumstances or with a tax penalty. It is not the only way to set aside money for retirement, either.
\n

\n
\n
1. You have high-interest debt
\n
Early in your career, you might have high-cost debt to address. If you have high interest debt, such as credit cards or installment loans with interest rates above 15%, it may be best to concentrate on paying that off before contributing too much to your 401(k).
\n
Also, if you are having trouble making the minimum payments on student loans or scramble to pay your rent every month, you may not have enough slack in your budget. Contributing to a retirement plan could actually hurt you in the near term. Look for ways to increase your income or reduce your spending before committing to long-term savings. Eventually, you should be able to afford to put enough money into your retirement to earn any employer match offered, then build to a full contribution.
\n
2. You want to retire early
\n
Some people want to retire before the age of 59 ½. If this is you, it's a good idea to have money outside of traditional retirement accounts. For some, this will involve aggressive savings (the Financially Independent, Retired Early crowd). For others, it's simply having money set aside for a year or two before traditional retirement accounts can be tapped. If early retirement is your goal, consider slowing down your 401(k) contributions once your account balance is adequate. It may be better to put your money in taxable accounts rather than pay the 10% penalty tax on early withdrawals.
\n
3. You want to avoid huge required minimum distributions
\n
Once you turn 72, the IRS requires you to take a minimum amount from IRA and 401(k) accounts. This required minimum distribution is based on the account value and your age. For most people, this is not a concern; they are more concerned about having enough money in their retirement accounts, not having too much.
\n
A fortunate few find these required minimum withdrawals to be far larger than they want. If you have made maximum contributions for years, had success in the financial markets, and possibly have large deferred compensation funds in rollover IRA accounts that are included in the minimum distribution requirements, you may end up with ridiculously large RMDs and tax bills.
\n
If you're part of this minority of folks who may be forced to withdraw more money than they know what to do with, curtailing retirement contributions may be a good idea. You can put your savings into other investment vehicles, or consider giving it to charity to share your bounty.
\n
4. You're considering health care and long-term care
\n
Many retirees have high health-care costs. Medicare is a pretty good deal, but it doesn't cover everything. A health savings account is a tax-advantaged way to save for copayments, deductibles, vision care, and dental care. There are a few reasons why contributing as much as you can to your retirement fund might not make sense, at least not some years. That's because a traditional 401(k) locks your money away until you are 59 ½. Early withdrawal is allowed, but only in limited circumstances or with a tax penalty. It is not the only way to set aside money for retirement, either.\n\nImage Source: Getty Images\n1. You have high-interest debt\nEarly in your career, you might have high-cost debt to address. If you have high interest debt, such as credit cards or installment loans with interest rates above 15%, it may be best to concentrate on paying that off before contributing too much to your 401(k).\nAlso, if you are having trouble making the minimum payments on student loans or scramble to pay your rent every month, you may not have enough slack in your budget. Contributing to a retirement plan could actually hurt you in the near term. Look for ways to increase your income or reduce your spending before committing to long-term savings. Eventually, you should be able to afford to put enough money into your retirement to earn any employer match offered, then build to a full contribution.\n2. You want to retire early\nSome people want to retire before the age of 59 ½. It may be better to put your money in taxable accounts rather than pay the 10% penalty tax on early withdrawals.\n3. You want to avoid huge required minimum distributions\nOnce you turn 72, the IRS requires you to take a minimum amount from IRA and 401(k) accounts. This required minimum distribution is based on the account value and your age. For most people, this is not a concern; they are more concerned about having enough money in their retirement accounts, not having too much.\nA fortunate few find these required minimum withdrawals to be far larger than they want. If you have made maximum contributions for years, had success in the financial markets, and possibly have large deferred compensation funds in rollover IRA accounts that are included in the minimum distribution requirements, you may end up with ridiculously large RMDs and tax bills.\nIf you're part of this minority of folks who may be forced to withdraw more money than they know what to do with, curtailing retirement contributions may be a good idea. You can put your savings into other investment vehicles, or consider giving it to charity to share your bounty.\n4. You're considering health care and long-term care\nMany retirees have high health-care costs. Medicare is a pretty good deal, but it doesn't cover everything. A health savings account is a tax-advantaged way to save for copayments, deductibles, vision care, and dental care. If you are eligible for a health savings account with your current health insurance, and if your retirement accounts are in good shape, consider maxing out your HSA contribution. The funds should roll over and be in place for you when you retire. The maximum HSA contribution for 2021 is $3600 for an individual and $7200 for a married couple filing jointly.\nLong-term care is especially expensive, whether it involves help at home, assisted living, or a skilled nursing facility. Long-term care insurance is available and is relatively inexpensive the younger that you are. If your basic retirement needs are covered, buying a long-term care policy instead of making a 401(k) contribution may be a good bet.\nBy all means, maximize your 401(k) contribution if it makes sense, and participate just enough to get any employer match (free money!). But if you find yourself identifying with any of the points above, you may want to consider saving for retirement in a different way, at least for now.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":468,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":816299982,"gmtCreate":1630502374846,"gmtModify":1676530321619,"author":{"id":"3581975238172847","authorId":"3581975238172847","name":"Steffitsann","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581975238172847","authorIdStr":"3581975238172847"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!","listText":"Great!","text":"Great!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/816299982","repostId":"1173586399","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1173586399","pubTimestamp":1630499957,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1173586399?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-01 It is rated \"A\" by MSCI ESG Ratings.\nDBS ESG Focus Note, on the other hand, comprises at least 80 bonds issued by global companies with good environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) ratings and from across a range of industries. The portfolio aims to harness incremental yields from these bonds and provide quarterly distributions to investors.\n\"Since 2018, we have successfully launched various ESG outperformance structures in the equity space, giving clients exposure to companies that score well based on MSCI ESG scoring methodology,\" said Ms Audra Seah, head of investment advisory and capital market products at DBS Private Bank.\n\"We foresee continued strong interest as more clients come to appreciate the benefits of ESG investing, and have thus created the DBS ESG Focus Note as a means for them to extend their participation in sustainable investments to the fixed income part of their portfolios,\" she added.\nAll in-house managed investment products offered by the bank are designed with sustainability at their core, rated \"BBB\" and above based on MSCI ESG Ratings, and are designed by the bank's chief investment office (CIO) and product solutions teams.\nDBS Private Bank said its growing suite of managed investment products reflects its CIO's high-conviction strategies, and aims to play a larger role in the overall construction of portfolio for clients seeking long-term capital appreciation as well as income generation.\nIts first in-house managed investment product was globally diversified fixed income solution DBS Global Income Note, which the bank said has generated an annualised 7 per cent return since inception, as at the end of last month.\nThe bank's flagship DBS CIO Barbell Strategy Portfolio delivered 33 per cent returns as at the end of last month since its inception two years ago, representing a benchmark outperformance of 350 basis points.\nThese two solutions are each available to accredited investors at a minimum investment sum of US$50,000 (S$67,000).","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":137,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":837252866,"gmtCreate":1629896351855,"gmtModify":1676530165005,"author":{"id":"3581975238172847","authorId":"3581975238172847","name":"Steffitsann","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581975238172847","authorIdStr":"3581975238172847"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!","listText":"Great!","text":"Great!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/837252866","repostId":"2162087564","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2162087564","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1629836173,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2162087564?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-25 04:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall St extends rally, pushing S&P 500 to 50th all-time high close this year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2162087564","media":"Reuters","summary":"NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended higher in a late-summer, light volume rally on Tuesda","content":"
NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended higher in a late-summer, light volume rally on Tuesday as the FDA's full approval of a COVID-19 vaccine on Monday and the absence of negative catalysts kept risk appetite alive ahead of the much-anticipated Jackson Hole Symposium.
\n
All three major U.S. stock indexes advanced higher, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq closing at all-time closing highs.
\n
The session marked the S&P 500's 50th record high close so far this year.
\n
Tech and tech-adjacent megacaps were once again doing the heavy lifting, but economically sensitive cyclicals and smallcaps outperformed the broader market.
\n
\"Investors are looking at the horizon at the big Jackson Hole meeting on the horizon,\" Ryan Detrick, senior market strategist at LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina, referring to the Federal Reserve’s annual economic symposium on Friday. \"But for now the feel-good from yesterday’s vaccine news is still in the air.\"
\n
The Food and Drug Administration's full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday fueled optimism over economic recovery which spilled into Tuesday's session.
\n
Travel and leisure sectors, associated with economic re-engagement, outperformed the broader market.
