Because if one thingās for sure, the Shanghai headquartered electric vehicle (EV) maker knows how to keep investors on their toes. Their shares rallied close to 3,000% in the months after the COVID pandemic started, with many analysts calling them the next Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA).

Comparisons like this are always going to be made with any up-and-coming EV company, but NIO stockās seemingly unlimited resistance to gravity initially made it all the more pertinent. So too, it could be said, has the stockās subsequent fall from the highs, and it will surely be nailed down once and for all if it can recover in the coming weeks. Thereās plenty afoot with NIO that suggests its shares might be about to kick off a much-needed rally.

Mixed Earnings

Their Q4 earnings, released last night, gave investors and Wall Street a glimpse into the engine. Revenue for the quarter was ahead of analyst expectations and up 52% year on year, which helped to offset the slight miss on EPS. Delivery of vehicles for the fourth quarter of 2021 was up 44% compared to the same quarter the previous year, with total deliveries for 2021 up 109% compared to 2020. These are good numbers and suggest NIOās revenue engine is building significant momentum. The timing is perfect too, with the effects of the Russian - Ukraine war on oil and gas prices causing many to think about switching permanently to an EV.

Initial indications in Fridayās pre-market session however suggested that there was some further room for shares to fall in the near term after the report. The earnings per share miss didnāt do them any favors, especially at a time when Chinese stocks are coming under intense scrutiny and investors arenāt as willing to overlook surprises to the downside. Managementās forward guidance for the first quarter of 2022 was also a little soft compared to the consensus. But for those of us on the sidelines, any further selling should be viewed as a potential buying opportunity.

It might require a tough stomach, but there are voices from the bull camp calling NIO shares a buy right now. Earlier this week, Morgan Stanley analyst Tim Hsiao reiterated his Buy rating, while trimming his price target from a stale $66 to $34. In doing so he acknowledged the āelevating macro headwinds and severe supply challengesā as near-term challenges, but feels confident that the companyās āsuperior liquidity and revenue visibility have it well-positioned to ride out any economic downturn.ā

Massive Upside

His new price target suggests thereās as much upside as 50% to be had from where shares closed on Thursday which should be tempting to even the most bearish of us. In a note to clients, Hsiao pointed out that NIO has ādeep enough pockets to finance its growth ambitions with the net cash position at the end of 2021 set to cover more aggressive investments this year. Management also now expects net profit to reach break-even in Q4 of 2023, which could also help alleviate the pressure on investment cash outflow.ā

The team over at Citi also took a relaxed view after Thursdayās earnings miss, saying on Friday morning that they were impressed with the strong vehicle margins that NIO delivered in Q4 even as prices for raw materials soared. Investors on the hunt for a bargain could do worse than take a look at NIO now, especially in light of the current downtrend shares find themselves in. The near-term headwinds are not to be ignored, but if youāre going to get involved in an EV stock, or any new frontier stock for that matter, you have to be forward-looking and focused on the long-term potential.

Earlier this week, Deutsche Bank reiterated their Buy rating on NIO, noting that āthe tide seems to be finally turning for the Chinese EV stockā. Their $50 price target would have shared more than double from their current levels, so if your time horizon is long enough you have to be asking yourself if nowās the time to start backing up the truck.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is NIO The Buy Of The Year?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs NIO The Buy Of The Year?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-03-26 08:25 GMT+8 marketbeat\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
This might not be a question you were expecting to hear with regards to NIO (NYSE: NIO), whose shares are down almost 70% from last yearās all-time high, but itās one worth asking. But when you're retired, those options may not be feasible. Still, retirees need ample income to survive for possibly two or three decades (or more), and Social Security alone is never going to provide as much as they need.

Here are five sources of income to consider for your retirement. See which ones make sense for you, and perhaps tuck one or two in the back of your mind for later.

1. Your Health Savings Account

If you have a high-deductible health insurance plan, you may be able to set up a Health Savings Account (HSA), which can help you pay for qualifying medical expenses on a pre-tax basis. That's great, and it will save you money, but there's even more to like about HSAs.

A key feature of the HSA is that, unlike its cousin, the Flexible Spending Account (FSA), the money put into it isn't there on a use-it-or-lose-it basis. Whatever isn't spent on those qualifying expenses gets to stay and grow. Better still, it can be invested in stocks, too.

But wait -- there's more! Once you turn 65, you can spend that money on anything. Any sums not spent on qualifying healthcare expenses will count as taxable income to you, just like withdrawals from a traditional IRA or 401(k) account. So an HSA account can serve as a good retirement savings account. Since retirees often face hefty healthcare expenses, you may end up spending much of the account on them anyway, saving on taxes in the process.

2. Dividends

You might not think of dividends as an unexpected income source in retirement, but there's a good chance you're not taking them seriously enough. You may just be expecting a few hundred dollars here and there, at most. That's not how it has to be.

If you have a portfolio with a bunch of healthy and growing dividend-paying stocks in it, you may be able to set yourself up for an income stream that rivals Social Security. For example, with a $500,000 portfolio that has an overall dividend yield of 4%, you can expect to receive $20,000 per year in dividends alone. Even better, the income will arrive without your having to sell any shares. You can hang on to the shares, and ideally, they will grow in value. Great dividend-payers tend to increase their payouts over time, too.

For perspective, the average Social Security retirement benefit was recently $1,661 per month or about $20,000 per year.

3. Interest

Interest can be another powerful source of retirement income -- just not right now, as interest rates have been extremely low for many years. But inflation has been on the upswing, and the Federal Reserve has signaled that increases are on the way. If you have $100,000 in short-term investments and you're earning 1% interest on it these days, that's $1,000 in interest income. It's better than nothing, but it won't go far in retirement.

Remember, though, that interest rates do fluctuate over time. Check out some historic prime rates in the table below:

Date

Prime Rate

Aug. 1, 1948

2.00%

Jan. 22, 1958

4.00%

Dec. 18, 1968

6.75%

Dec. 3, 1973

9.75%

Dec. 26, 1978

11.75%

April 2, 1980

20.00%

Dec. 19, 1980

21.50%

Nov. 28, 1988

10.50%

July 2, 1992

6.00%

May 17, 2000

9.50%

June 27, 2003

4.00%

Dec. 13, 2005

7.25%

Oct. 29, 2008

4.00%

March 15, 2020

3.25%

Source: Fedprimerate.com.

There are occasional periods when interest rates can be well into the double digits. If your $100,000 portfolio is earning 8% interest, that's $8,000 in annual income to you -- about $667 per month. That kind of income can go a long way toward paying for food, utilities, or travel in retirement. Depending on how high interest rates go in the coming years, interest may be an unexpected source of retirement income.

4. A side job

I noted that in retirement, you might not be up to a regular side job, such as being a cashier in a store. But there are some kinds of side jobs that you may be able to take on, at least for a few years, which can bring some meaningful income into your household.

For example, you may be able to give language or music lessons to kids or adults. If you charge $50 for a lesson and give six lessons per week, that's $300 in extra income for the week -- amounting to about $15,000 per year. You might make things to sell, such as sweaters or furniture, or you could take on some freelance work that you do at your computer such as writing, editing, or designing.

5. Your house

Your home may provide another unexpected income stream if you rent out space in it through services such as AirbnbĀ or Expedia'sĀ service VRBO. If you spend a week or several weeks at a time visiting friends or family, your home might be available to rent for several long stretches. Depending on the accommodations you can offer and your home's location, you may be able to net around $100 to $200 per night or more, so renting out your space for 14 nights per year could generate $1,400 to $2,800 per year.

Depending on your circumstances, you might even take in a boarder for a while. If you charge $600 per month for a bedroom and kitchen privileges, you could generate $7,200 per year (pre-tax).

Another way to wring money out of your home is a reverse mortgage. It won't work for everyone, and it doesn't make sense for everyone, either. However, it's a valuable solution for some retirees when more income is needed. It involves borrowing money using your home as collateral and receiving regular payments based on its value. The loan doesn't have to be repaid until you no longer live in the home, such as when you die or move into a retirement home or care facility. There are various pros and cons to consider, so read up on reverse mortgages if you're interested.

A little digging around online may turn up some more sources of income, but one or more of these five ideas could serve you well in the future.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Unexpected Sources of Retirement Income
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Unexpected Sources of Retirement Income\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-21 07:56 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When you're young, and need more income, you might take on an extra job, get a raise at work, or switch to a better-paying job. Since retirees often face hefty healthcare expenses, you may end up spending much of the account on them anyway, saving on taxes in the process.2. DividendsYou might not think of dividends as an unexpected income source in retirement, but there's a good chance you're not taking them seriously enough. You may just be expecting a few hundred dollars here and there, at most. That's not how it has to be.If you have a portfolio with a bunch of healthy and growing dividend-paying stocks in it, you may be able to set yourself up for an income stream that rivals Social Security. For example, with a $500,000 portfolio that has an overall dividend yield of 4%, you can expect to receive $20,000 per year in dividends alone. Even better, the income will arrive without your having to sell any shares. You can hang on to the shares, and ideally, they will grow in value. Great dividend-payers tend to increase their payouts over time, too.For perspective, the average Social Security retirement benefit was recently $1,661 per month or about $20,000 per year.Image source: Getty Images.3. InterestInterest can be another powerful source of retirement income -- just not right now, as interest rates have been extremely low for many years. But inflation has been on the upswing, and the Federal Reserve has signaled that increases are on the way. If you have $100,000 in short-term investments and you're earning 1% interest on it these days, that's $1,000 in interest income. It's better than nothing, but it won't go far in retirement.Remember, though, that interest rates do fluctuate over time. Check out some historic prime rates in the table below:DatePrime RateAug. 1, 19482.00%Jan. 22, 19584.00%Dec. 18, 19686.75%Dec. 3, 19739.75%Dec. 26, 197811.75%April 2, 198020.00%Dec. 19, 198021.50%Nov. 28, 198810.50%July 2, 19926.00%May 17, 20009.50%June 27, 20034.00%Dec. 13, 20057.25%Oct. 29, 20084.00%March 15, 20203.25%Source: Fedprimerate.com.There are occasional periods when interest rates can be well into the double digits. If your $100,000 portfolio is earning 8% interest, that's $8,000 in annual income to you -- about $667 per month. That kind of income can go a long way toward paying for food, utilities, or travel in retirement. Depending on how high interest rates go in the coming years, interest may be an unexpected source of retirement income.4. A side jobI noted that in retirement, you might not be up to a regular side job, such as being a cashier in a store. You might make things to sell, such as sweaters or furniture, or you could take on some freelance work that you do at your computer such as writing, editing, or designing.5. Your houseYour home may provide another unexpected income stream if you rent out space in it through services such as AirbnbĀ or Expedia'sĀ service VRBO. If you spend a week or several weeks at a time visiting friends or family, your home might be available to rent for several long stretches. Depending on the accommodations you can offer and your home's location, you may be able to net around $100 to $200 per night or more, so renting out your space for 14 nights per year could generate $1,400 to $2,800 per year.Depending on your circumstances, you might even take in a boarder for a while. If you charge $600 per month for a bedroom and kitchen privileges, you could generate $7,200 per year (pre-tax).Another way to wring money out of your home is a reverse mortgage. There are various pros and cons to consider, so read up on reverse mortgages if you're interested.A little digging around online may turn up some more sources of income, but one or more of these five ideas could serve you well in the future.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":423,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9094253327,"gmtCreate":1645157182907,"gmtModify":1676534004536,"author":{"id":"3582095724629858","authorId":"3582095724629858","name":"Superinvest","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9f10e513c4f0d98c03cc13f0c595ba6","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582095724629858","authorIdStr":"3582095724629858"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Will pick up some Qualcomm shares later... Investors looking for such tech stocks should consider two stalwarts: Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM). Let's find out a bit more about these top bargain stocks ready for a bull run.

1. Alphabet

Google parent Alphabet may seem like a counterintuitive pick in some respects. Its market cap of nearly $1.8 trillion makes high-percentage growth more difficult. Though its stock price has surged 28% higher over the last year, its 10.8% decline from its November high has only given traders a comparatively modest discount.

Alphabet announced a 20-for-1 stock split effective on July 15. This would mean a share price around $135 per share at current prices, making it more attractive for potential inclusion in the price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Also, a massive market cap has not seemed to stop this company's growth. The $258 billion it reported in revenue in 2021 was up 41% year over year. This included a 45% increase in revenue for Google Cloud, which now lags only Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure in market share, according to ParkMyCloud.

This led to a net income of just over $76 billion, an 89% increase over the same period. Limiting the increase in expenses to 27% helped generate this growth.

Moreover, Alphabet has become a cash flow juggernaut. In 2021, it generated over $67 billion in free cash flow and claimed almost $140 billion in liquidity, giving Alphabet a solid balance sheet.

Admittedly, the lack of specific guidance from management may disappoint investors. Analysts have estimated an 18% year-over-year revenue increase for 2022, which would mean a significant slowdown.

Nonetheless, a P/E ratio of 24 marks its lowest earnings multiple since the beginning of the pandemic. It is also significantly cheaper than its cloud rivals Amazon and Microsoft, which sell for 48 and 32 times earnings, respectively. This earnings multiple makes Alphabet a bargain even if revenue growth falls below 20%.

2. Qualcomm

Qualcomm is another large tech company leading the pace of innovation. Long a producer of smartphone chipsets, it continues to dominate this market, especially in the midst of a 5G upgrade cycle. Even though AppleĀ and other peers have attempted to compete, for now, every 5G phone on the market depends on Qualcomm.

However, the company has also ventured into the IoT, automotive, and RF front-end markets. Its digital chassis can power automobiles and the communication-related functions of cars, including the emerging autonomous driving technology.

Moreover, it has begun to compete in the PC, server, and data center markets. This could become an increasing threat to companies such as AMD, Intel, and NvidiaĀ amid more communications-related applications.

These moves have delivered massive growth for the company. In its first quarter, revenue rose 30% year over year to $10.7 billion. Adjusted net income surged 47% during this period to $3.7 billion as the company limited expense growth to 20%.

Admittedly, it represented a slowdown from fiscal 2021 results. In 2021, revenue increased 55% versus prior-year levels, taking adjusted net income 104% as Qualcomm kept expenses in check. Still, the company's estimated Q2 revenue of between $10.2 billion and $11.0 billion would mean a 34% year-over-year rise in revenue.

Investors do not yet seem to appreciate Qualcomm's potential. Its stock price has only risen 12% over the last year, though it's also only down 15% from its 52-week high, it has mostly sidestepped the sell-off in tech stocks.

This muted performance has left it with a P/E ratio of 19, dwarfing Apple's earnings multiple of 28 and the 76 P/E ratio of Nvidia. Given its continuing leadership in smartphone chipsets and its potential to expand the breadth of communications-related chips, value-focused tech investors should consider Qualcomm stock a buy now.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Top Bargain Stocks Ready for a Bull Run
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Top Bargain Stocks Ready for a Bull Run\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-17 23:30 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Shareholders in tech growth stocks have experienced a brutal sell-off in recent months. The pandemic fueled SoFi's member growth and I expected the personal finance company to end the year with 3.3M members. SoFi did even better than that, ending the year with a massive 3.46M-strong member base. The platform added 523 thousand new members to its platform just in the fourth-quarter and 1.61M new customers in total in FY 2021. Although member acquisition rates decelerated from 96%in Q3'21to 87% in Q4'21, adding more than half a million members just in the last quarter of the year shows that SoFi doesn't really have to worry about attracting new customers to its platform.

The key to SoFi's growth lies in its ability to roll out new lending and financial services products, but especially the latter. Growth has been especially strong in financial services products which saw offerings go from 1.6M in Q4'20 to 4.1M in Q4'21ā¦ indicating that the financial services category- which includes cryptocurrencies, investment products and insurances- keeps driving SoFi's entire company performance: 79% of all products are FS products today compared to just 64% in the year-earlier period.

SoFi also serves the commercial market through its Galileo platform. The earnings guidance for FY 2022 must be seen in connection with SoFi's past achievements regarding top line and EBITDA growth.

2021 was the first year in the firm's history in which SoFi was solidly profitable on an adjusted EBITDA basis. SoFi's annual adjusted net revenues increased 63% year over year to $1.01B in FY 2021, but achieving adjusted EBITDA profitability shows that the firm reached a critical milestone in FY 2021. SoFi's adjusted EBITDA in FY 2021 was $30M, showing a $75M improvement over FY 2020. The increase in profitability is due to strong customer acquisition and increasing adoption of FS products on the SoFi platform.

SoFi expects to do $1.57B in adjusted net revenues this year, which implies 55% year over year revenue growth. SoFi, however, also expects a 6 X factor increase in its adjusted EBITDA to $180M and a massive improvement in its EBITDA margin from 3% in FY 2021 to 11% in FY 2022ā¦ and that's what made SoFi's shares jump yesterday.

I still believe SoFi's commercial growth in the personal finance industry is cheap, especially because shares went through another downĀ leg lately. The real reason to buy SoFi, however, relates to the firm achieving what many scalable platform businesses have not achieved yet: SoFi is generating profitable growth. Ending the year with more than 3.5M members significantly beat my estimate of 3.3M customers and the platform will continue to grow rapidly. I believe SoFi's growth in the digital personal finance space has become deeply discounted in recent months, in large part because the market has no taste for growth stocks right now. Investors would be curious to see if the company can post a significant enough revenue beat to stabilize its tanking share price and possibly also trigger a rally. But in addition to just tracking its headline revenue figure, investors may also want to monitor its customer count, deal value, segment financials and its managementās outlook for FY22. These items will better highlight Palantirās state of operations and are likely to influence where its shares head next in coming weeks. Letās take a closer look at it all.

Operating Metrics

Bears routinely argue that Palantir is a consulting business instead of a technology business. Its sales personnel have to pitch their platform to enterprises and government agencies in order to win contracts. Then, its team of engineers has to sometimes, if not always, intervene in order to set up dashboards for their new customers. So, itās understandable why many investors are skeptical about Palantirās ability to scale. Fortunately, for Palantir's shareholders at least, the company discloses two operating metrics that reveal if it's scalability is at risk or if things are going smoothly.

First method involves tracking Palantirās total number of customers in its Q4 earnings report. If its customer onboarding process is starting to get bottlenecked due to human intervention, or if its target market is saturating, then Palantirās customer count figure might as well plateau going forward. Any slowdown in growth here would point to operational difficulties in onboarding new customers and possibly also a subsequent financial slowdown. Conversely, a rapid increase in Palantirās customer count would indicate that the company is still growing its business footprint with relative ease and it would also quash scalability-related concerns along the way.

Secondly, investors may also want to monitor Palantirās remaining deal value figure. It highlights the residual value of all the contracts booked with Palantir, that are yet to be delivered, from which revenue is yet to be recognized. Itās similar to the order backlog metric that engineering firms report but itās prone to customer cancellations due to far lower contract termination fees. Generally speaking, a growing remaining deal value figure indicates a growing project pipeline that can potentially drive Palantirās revenue in the years to come.

Very few investors might know this but Palantir has significantly expanded its sales team over the last four quarters. With this heightened focus on direct sales now, the company is likely to have bagged new customers and contracts during the quarter. This means its customer count figure as well as its remaining deal value of contracts, are well poised to further increase sequentially in the companyās upcoming Q4 earnings report.

Bifurcated Financials

Moving on, Palantir classifies its revenue under two reporting segments namely, government and commercial segments. Its commercial revenue stream has grown at a rapid rate over the past few quarters and it accounted for about 45% of the companyās total revenue last quarter. Now that most of the major markets across the world have eased their travel restrictions, Palantirās expanded sales team would have been able to travel more freely during the quarter and bag new orders. So, Iām expecting its commercial segment to post a low-double-digit (~12%) revenue growth on a sequential basis, with the actual figure coming in around $195 million for Q4.

On the other hand, I expect Palantirās government segment to post lackluster results in Q4. The company won very few contracts from the US government during quarter which is bound to put a pressure on this revenue stream. Palantir would have had to strike more deals with international governments agencies in order to offset and mitigate the recent decline of new orders from the US government, but thatās easier said than done. So, Iām expecting its government revenue to, at best, grow at low-single digits (~3%) in Q4, with the figure amounting to around $224 million.

Overall, Iām estimating Palantirās revenue to amount to $419 million during Q4 FY21. Letās take a closer look at it all.Operating MetricsBears routinely argue that Palantir is a consulting business instead of a technology business. Fortunately, for Palantir's shareholders at least, the company discloses two operating metrics that reveal if it's scalability is at risk or if things are going smoothly.First method involves tracking Palantirās total number of customers in its Q4 earnings report. Conversely, a rapid increase in Palantirās customer count would indicate that the company is still growing its business footprint with relative ease and it would also quash scalability-related concerns along the way.Secondly, investors may also want to monitor Palantirās remaining deal value figure. It highlights the residual value of all the contracts booked with Palantir, that are yet to be delivered, from which revenue is yet to be recognized. Itās similar to the order backlog metric that engineering firms report but itās prone to customer cancellations due to far lower contract termination fees. Generally speaking, a growing remaining deal value figure indicates a growing project pipeline that can potentially drive Palantirās revenue in the years to come.Very few investors might know this but Palantir has significantly expanded its sales team over the last four quarters. With this heightened focus on direct sales now, the company is likely to have bagged new customers and contracts during the quarter. This means its customer count figure as well as its remaining deal value of contracts, are well poised to further increase sequentially in the companyās upcoming Q4 earnings report.Bifurcated FinancialsMoving on, Palantir classifies its revenue under two reporting segments namely, government and commercial segments. So, Iām expecting its commercial segment to post a low-double-digit (~12%) revenue growth on a sequential basis, with the actual figure coming in around $195 million for Q4.On the other hand, I expect Palantirās government segment to post lackluster results in Q4. The company won very few contracts from the US government during quarter which is bound to put a pressure on this revenue stream. Palantir would have had to strike more deals with international governments agencies in order to offset and mitigate the recent decline of new orders from the US government, but thatās easier said than done. So, Iām expecting its government revenue to, at best, grow at low-single digits (~3%) in Q4, with the figure amounting to around $224 million.Overall, Iām estimating Palantirās revenue to amount to $419 million during Q4 FY21. This would mark a growth of approximately 30% on a year over year basis, and 7% sequentially. Coincidentally, my revenue estimate happens to be in the vicinity of the Streetās revenue estimates for Palantirās Q4, which are averaging around$417 million.Having said that, investors should also pay close attention to Palantir managementās revenue outlook for FY22. They had issued a rather conservative revenue growth outlook for FY21 in last yearās Q4, which eventually caused a selloff in its share for the majority of the past year. But now that Palantirās number of customers has increased 46% since Q4 FY20, its management should be in a better position to issue a higher revenue growth forecast for FY22.Also, there has been a marked deceleration in new order wins from US government during Q4, as evident in the chart above.

But when you're retired, those options may not be feasible. Still, retirees need ample income to survive for possibly two or three decades (or more), and Social Security alone is never going to provide as much as they need. Here are five sources of income to consider for your retirement. See which ones make sense for you, and perhaps tuck one or two in the back of your mind for later.Image source: Getty Images.1. Your Health Savings AccountIf you have a high-deductible health insurance plan, you may be able to set up a Health Savings Account (HSA), which can help you pay for qualifying medical expenses on a pre-tax basis. That's great, and it will save you money, but there's even more to like about HSAs.A key feature of the HSA is that, unlike its cousin, the Flexible Spending Account (FSA), the money put into it isn't there on a use-it-or-lose-it basis. Whatever isn't spent on those qualifying expenses gets to stay and grow. Better still, it can be invested in stocks, too.But wait -- there's more! Once you turn 65, you can spend that money on anything. Any sums not spent on qualifying healthcare expenses will count as taxable income to you, just like withdrawals from a traditional IRA or 401(k) account. So an HSA account can serve as a good retirement savings account. There are various pros and cons to consider, so read up on reverse mortgages if you're interested.A little digging around online may turn up some more sources of income, but one or more of these five ideas could serve you well in the future.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":423,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9096288309,"gmtCreate":1644399544671,"gmtModify":1676533921185,"author":{"id":"3582095724629858","authorId":"3582095724629858","name":"Superinvest","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9f10e513c4f0d98c03cc13f0c595ba6","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582095724629858","authorIdStr":"3582095724629858"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9096288309","repostId":"1196471828","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1196471828","pubTimestamp":1644395848,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1196471828?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-09 16:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Best Renewable Energy Stocks to Buy in Q1","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1196471828","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Renewable energy stocks havenāt had a great 12 months. In a broad example, theĀ Invesco Solar Portfol","content":"

Renewable energy stocks havenāt had a great 12 months. In a broad example, theĀ Invesco Solar Portfolio ETF has lost nearly half of its value over the past year.

Two major factors have contributed to the decline in value for many renewable energy stocks. For one, the wind and solar industries havenāt received the sorts of subsidies that traders were hoping for from the Biden Administration.

For another, many green energy companies donāt generate much in the way of near-term profits or cash flows. Thus, theyāve gotten caught up in the broad market-based selling around all sorts of speculative growth companies.

Itās certainly not all blue skies ahead for the renewable energy industry. Shortcomings ā particularly as it relates to lack of storage capacity ā have become painfully apparent in recent months.

Look at thespiraling electricity crisisthis winter in Europe for one example. Still, after seeing many renewable energy stocks drop by 50% or more, itās time to take a fresh look.

Here are seven names that could stand out, even during this volatile period for the renewable energy industry:

Sunrun

FirstĀ Solar

NextEra

Consolidated Edison

Ormat Technologies

Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure

General Electric

Sunrun

Source: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.com

Solar energy stocks were blazing hot at the beginning of the Biden Administration. Between the November 2020 election and Inauguration Day 2021, the price of Sunrun stock soared almost 52%.

Particularly with Democrats in control of the House of Representatives and Senate, in addition to the presidency, a robust era of clean energy spending was supposed to commence.

However, thereās been limited legislative traction for green energy. Much of Washington D.C.ās attention has understandably turned to more immediate issues such as dealing with the societal and economic impacts of the Covid-19 crisis.

Attempts at a grand series of Build Back Better infrastructure bills have gotten pruned down to a much-smaller package.

This has hit the solar industry hard with smaller, more-speculative names like SunRun getting walloped. RUN stock is down nearly 70% over the past year.

Sunrun operates in the home solar space and has shown incredible growth ā north of 30% ā despite already having a large installed base.

However, Sunrun has gotten hit on all fronts. The lack of expected subsidy support has dimmed near-term expectations. Meanwhile, supply chain and inflation issues are a threat to crush profit margins.

In addition, the company borrowed heavily during brighter times and now faces growing investor skepticism around its balance sheet.

Thereās plenty of risk at SunRun to be sure. However, with the stock down from a 52-week high of $85 to just $25 now, RUN stock is one of the highest-voltage ways to get exposure to a potential solar industry rebound.

FirstSolar

Source: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.com

First Solar is a more conservative way to play the solar industry. It is one of the leading manufacturers of panels.

Itās not nearly as much of a growth play as something like Sunrun. However, itās actually highly profitable, which is something of a rarity in the solar industry at the moment.

The company will have earned roughly $3.50 per share for full-year 2021 once it announces results later this month. That will put the stock around 20x full-year 2021 earnings.

Analysts see First Solarās earnings dropping in 2022. After that, however, the consensus has 2023 earnings recovering to 2021 levels, giving First Solar a solid base of profitability in the intermediate term.

Some of First Solarās strategic advantage is due to using a differentiated technology for making its panels as opposed to commodity producers overseas.

Another element of its success came from the Trump Administrationās move to slap tariffs on imported solar panels. Bidenās team recently announced that it will easebut not altogether eliminatethese tariffs.

Thatās an additional win for First Solar, which has invested heavily in its Ohio-based manufacturing facilities.

NextEra

Source: madamF / Shutterstock.com

Another way to get involved in the renewable energy wave is through power utilities. Not all utilities have a strong renewable energy angle. A few stand out, however. Florida-based NextEra is one of the leaders in solar power deployment nationally.

It does have a traditional regulated utility business that offers stable predictable cash flows.

Where things get more exciting is with its separate arm in the construction and design of large-scale renewable power projects around the country. This gives NextEra an attractive source of additional income.

These development projects tend to be in a competitive market and thus can earn higher returns on equity than traditional utility power where returns are generally set by state regulators.

Additionally, NextEra has benefited in a huge way from passive index fund flows. NextEra scores highly on environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards and thus is a leading investment for many funds in the socially-conscious, green, and millennial categories.

As more and more money floods into these ESG-type investments, NextEra should be one of the largest recipients of these inflows.

Consolidated Edison

Source: Pand P Studio / Shutterstock.com

Consolidated Edison is another of the pioneers in the renewable utility space. The New York City power company is one of the worldās oldest power utilities.

Even with its storied history, it has managed to keep up with the times. Indeed, today, itās now the second-largest operator of utility-scale solar power in the U.S.

Thatās good in its own right. Given the political climate on the East Coast, the renewable focus is particularly useful. ConEd is already ahead of the curve in terms of upping its investments in green energy while other utilities will have to rush to meet phase-outs around the use of dirtier fuels.\\

From an investorās perspective, ConEd is a classic growth and income holding. The company has increased its dividend for 48 years in a row, making it one of the few Dividend Aristocrats in the power utility sector. ED stock has delivered steadily rising dividends and some capital appreciation for decades, and its quick adoption of renewables should keep that streak going for many years to come.

Ormat Technologies

Source: riekephotos / Shutterstock.com

Ormat Technologies is the global leader in geothermal power generation. The company was founded way back in 1965 and has developed more than 190 power plants over the decades. It has been in the green energy game for a long time, giving it a level of domain expertise and cyclical knowledge that most newer rivals donāt yet possess.

For a long time, analysts viewed geothermal as a fringe alternative in the power generation business. However, it has really had its moment to shine over the past few years. Thatās due to geothermalās much higher reliability. Geothermal is almost always available, making it a baseload generator that doesnāt experience the sorts of drastic fluctuations in supply that you see with wind or solar.

Sure, geothermal has drawbacks. It is often in remote locations, costs can be somewhat unattractive at times, and itās harder to build at vast scale compared to other alternatives. However, in a world that is rapidly discovering some drawbacks with intermittent green power sources, geothermal has carved out a solid space for itself.

Ormat in particular is profitable and has an attractive business outlook. ORA stock was fairly quiet between the mid-2000s and 2015. However, since then, shares as much as quintupled before hitting their peak in 2021. Since then, like so many growth stocks, Ormatās shares have sharply from their peak. However, the long-term trajectory should keep pointing upward.

Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure

Source: Chart by Josh Enomoto

One of the more interesting trends in natural resources of the past decade has been royalty companies. Specialty finance firms will provide financing to an oil & gas or mining company, and, in return, get a stream of mineral production once the project comes online.

Atlantica is offering investors a similar sort of structure in the renewable energy space. It finances renewable energy projects that are set to be built. After the renewable power generation asset is up and running, Atlantica offloads energy to end purchasers and gets to keep a favorable spread. This gives investors a royalty structure that should deliver steadier returns and a solid dividend from what has historically been a volatile industry.

Atlantica does have some other assets as well, namely investments in water, transmission lines, and natural gas. However, roughly 75% of its assets are in renewables such as wind and geothermal. AY stock currently offers a 5.5% dividend yield, making it an interest choice for green energy investors that also want some immediate income.

General Electric

Source: testing / Shutterstock.com

Finally, for investors that want a broader industrial play with emphasis on green energy exposure, donāt forget about GE.

General Electric has been on a multi-year journey to turn its business around and rectify the errors of past management teams. This transformation continues at aggressive speed under star CEO Larry Culp. Thus, theyāve gotten caught up in the broad market-based selling around all sorts of speculative growth companies.Itās certainly not all blue skies ahead for the renewable energy industry. Shortcomings ā particularly as it relates to lack of storage capacity ā have become painfully apparent in recent months.Look at thespiraling electricity crisisthis winter in Europe for one example. Still, after seeing many renewable energy stocks drop by 50% or more, itās time to take a fresh look. Here are seven names that could stand out, even during this volatile period for the renewable energy industry:SunrunFirstĀ SolarNextEraConsolidated EdisonOrmat TechnologiesAtlantica Sustainable InfrastructureGeneral ElectricSunrunSource: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.comSolar energy stocks were blazing hot at the beginning of the Biden Administration. Between the November 2020 election and Inauguration Day 2021, the price of Sunrun stock soared almost 52%.Particularly with Democrats in control of the House of Representatives and Senate, in addition to the presidency, a robust era of clean energy spending was supposed to commence. However, thereās been limited legislative traction for green energy. Much of Washington D.C.ās attention has understandably turned to more immediate issues such as dealing with the societal and economic impacts of the Covid-19 crisis.Attempts at a grand series of Build Back Better infrastructure bills have gotten pruned down to a much-smaller package. This has hit the solar industry hard with smaller, more-speculative names like SunRun getting walloped. RUN stock is down nearly 70% over the past year.Sunrun operates in the home solar space and has shown incredible growth ā north of 30% ā despite already having a large installed base. However, Sunrun has gotten hit on all fronts. The lack of expected subsidy support has dimmed near-term expectations. Meanwhile, supply chain and inflation issues are a threat to crush profit margins. In addition, the company borrowed heavily during brighter times and now faces growing investor skepticism around its balance sheet.Thereās plenty of risk at SunRun to be sure. However, with the stock down from a 52-week high of $85 to just $25 now, RUN stock is one of the highest-voltage ways to get exposure to a potential solar industry rebound.FirstSolarSource: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.comFirst Solar is a more conservative way to play the solar industry. It is one of the leading manufacturers of panels.Itās not nearly as much of a growth play as something like Sunrun. However, itās actually highly profitable, which is something of a rarity in the solar industry at the moment. The company will have earned roughly $3.50 per share for full-year 2021 once it announces results later this month. That will put the stock around 20x full-year 2021 earnings.Analysts see First Solarās earnings dropping in 2022. After that, however, the consensus has 2023 earnings recovering to 2021 levels, giving First Solar a solid base of profitability in the intermediate term. Some of First Solarās strategic advantage is due to using a differentiated technology for making its panels as opposed to commodity producers overseas.Another element of its success came from the Trump Administrationās move to slap tariffs on imported solar panels. Bidenās team recently announced that it will easebut not altogether eliminatethese tariffs.Thatās an additional win for First Solar, which has invested heavily in its Ohio-based manufacturing facilities.NextEraSource: madamF / Shutterstock.comAnother way to get involved in the renewable energy wave is through power utilities. Not all utilities have a strong renewable energy angle. A few stand out, however. Florida-based NextEra is one of the leaders in solar power deployment nationally. It does have a traditional regulated utility business that offers stable predictable cash flows.Where things get more exciting is with its separate arm in the construction and design of large-scale renewable power projects around the country. This gives NextEra an attractive source of additional income. These development projects tend to be in a competitive market and thus can earn higher returns on equity than traditional utility power where returns are generally set by state regulators.Additionally, NextEra has benefited in a huge way from passive index fund flows. NextEra scores highly on environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards and thus is a leading investment for many funds in the socially-conscious, green, and millennial categories. As more and more money floods into these ESG-type investments, NextEra should be one of the largest recipients of these inflows.Consolidated EdisonSource: Pand P Studio / Shutterstock.comConsolidated Edison is another of the pioneers in the renewable utility space. The New York City power company is one of the worldās oldest power utilities.Even with its storied history, it has managed to keep up with the times. Indeed, today, itās now the second-largest operator of utility-scale solar power in the U.S.Thatās good in its own right. Given the political climate on the East Coast, the renewable focus is particularly useful. ConEd is already ahead of the curve in terms of upping its investments in green energy while other utilities will have to rush to meet phase-outs around the use of dirtier fuels.\\From an investorās perspective, ConEd is a classic growth and income holding. The company has increased its dividend for 48 years in a row, making it one of the few Dividend Aristocrats in the power utility sector. ED stock has delivered steadily rising dividends and some capital appreciation for decades, and its quick adoption of renewables should keep that streak going for many years to come.Ormat TechnologiesSource: riekephotos / Shutterstock.comOrmat Technologies is the global leader in geothermal power generation. Geothermal is almost always available, making it a baseload generator that doesnāt experience the sorts of drastic fluctuations in supply that you see with wind or solar.Sure, geothermal has drawbacks. It is often in remote locations, costs can be somewhat unattractive at times, and itās harder to build at vast scale compared to other alternatives. However, in a world that is rapidly discovering some drawbacks with intermittent green power sources, geothermal has carved out a solid space for itself.Ormat in particular is profitable and has an attractive business outlook. ORA stock was fairly quiet between the mid-2000s and 2015. However, since then, shares as much as quintupled before hitting their peak in 2021. Since then, like so many growth stocks, Ormatās shares have sharply from their peak. However, the long-term trajectory should keep pointing upward.Atlantica Sustainable InfrastructureSource: Chart by Josh EnomotoOne of the more interesting trends in natural resources of the past decade has been royalty companies. Specialty finance firms will provide financing to an oil & gas or mining company, and, in return, get a stream of mineral production once the project comes online.Atlantica is offering investors a similar sort of structure in the renewable energy space. It finances renewable energy projects that are set to be built. After the renewable power generation asset is up and running, Atlantica offloads energy to end purchasers and gets to keep a favorable spread. This gives investors a royalty structure that should deliver steadier returns and a solid dividend from what has historically been a volatile industry.Atlantica does have some other assets as well, namely investments in water, transmission lines, and natural gas. However, roughly 75% of its assets are in renewables such as wind and geothermal. AY stock currently offers a 5.5% dividend yield, making it an interest choice for green energy investors that also want some immediate income.General ElectricSource: testing / Shutterstock.comFinally, for investors that want a broader industrial play with emphasis on green energy exposure, donāt forget about GE.General Electric has been on a multi-year journey to turn its business around and rectify the errors of past management teams. This transformation continues at aggressive speed under star CEO Larry Culp. GE is unloading its large aircraft leasing business and has several more asset divestures and spins on the way.Itās a complicated company, and the name GE leaves many investors with a bad taste. However, operating results are picking up steam and analysts see it as quite cheap. Morningstarās Joshua Aguilar currently pegsfair value at $133versus a current share price around $100. Thatās an attractive discount, and GE stock gives investors exposure to solid power assets such as its wind turbines and power grid systems solutions.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":242,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9088560566,"gmtCreate":1650364720077,"gmtModify":1676534705659,"author":{"id":"3582095724629858","authorId":"3582095724629858","name":"Superinvest","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a9f10e513c4f0d98c03cc13f0c595ba6","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582095724629858","authorIdStr":"3582095724629858"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$ION Geophysical(IO)$Should I cut losses.
