Because if one thing’s for sure, the Shanghai headquartered electric vehicle (EV) maker knows how to keep investors on their toes. Their shares rallied close to 3,000% in the months after the COVID pandemic started, with many analysts calling them the next Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA).</p><p>Comparisons like this are always going to be made with any up-and-coming EV company, but NIO stock’s seemingly unlimited resistance to gravity initially made it all the more pertinent. So too, it could be said, has the stock’s subsequent fall from the highs, and it will surely be nailed down once and for all if it can recover in the coming weeks. There’s plenty afoot with NIO that suggests its shares might be about to kick off a much-needed rally.</p><h2>Mixed Earnings</h2><p>Their Q4 earnings, released last night, gave investors and Wall Street a glimpse into the engine. Revenue for the quarter was ahead of analyst expectations and up 52% year on year, which helped to offset the slight miss on EPS. Delivery of vehicles for the fourth quarter of 2021 was up 44% compared to the same quarter the previous year, with total deliveries for 2021 up 109% compared to 2020. These are good numbers and suggest NIO’s revenue engine is building significant momentum. The timing is perfect too, with the effects of the Russian - Ukraine war on oil and gas prices causing many to think about switching permanently to an EV.</p><p>Initial indications in Friday’s pre-market session however suggested that there was some further room for shares to fall in the near term after the report. The earnings per share miss didn’t do them any favors, especially at a time when Chinese stocks are coming under intense scrutiny and investors aren’t as willing to overlook surprises to the downside. Management’s forward guidance for the first quarter of 2022 was also a little soft compared to the consensus. But for those of us on the sidelines, any further selling should be viewed as a potential buying opportunity.</p><p>It might require a tough stomach, but there are voices from the bull camp calling NIO shares a buy right now. Earlier this week, Morgan Stanley analyst Tim Hsiao reiterated his Buy rating, while trimming his price target from a stale $66 to $34. In doing so he acknowledged the “elevating macro headwinds and severe supply challenges” as near-term challenges, but feels confident that the company’s “superior liquidity and revenue visibility have it well-positioned to ride out any economic downturn.”</p><h2>Massive Upside</h2><p>His new price target suggests there’s as much upside as 50% to be had from where shares closed on Thursday which should be tempting to even the most bearish of us. In a note to clients, Hsiao pointed out that NIO has “deep enough pockets to finance its growth ambitions with the net cash position at the end of 2021 set to cover more aggressive investments this year. Management also now expects net profit to reach break-even in Q4 of 2023, which could also help alleviate the pressure on investment cash outflow.”</p><p>The team over at Citi also took a relaxed view after Thursday’s earnings miss, saying on Friday morning that they were impressed with the strong vehicle margins that NIO delivered in Q4 even as prices for raw materials soared. Shares of SoFi are ripe for a rebound and deserve to trade significantly higher!</p><p><b>Strong account growth in the fourth-quarter</b></p><p>SoFi ended FY 2021 in the best shape the company has ever been in, chiefly because of strong customer acquisition and accelerating profit growth. The pandemic fueled SoFi&#39;s member growth and I expected the personal finance company to end the year with 3.3M members. SoFi did even better than that, ending the year with a massive 3.46M-strong member base. The platform added 523 thousand new members to its platform just in the fourth-quarter and 1.61M new customers in total in FY 2021. Although member acquisition rates decelerated from 96%in Q3&#39;21to 87% in Q4&#39;21, adding more than half a million members just in the last quarter of the year shows that SoFi doesn&#39;t really have to worry about attracting new customers to its platform.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/67582a659120421f422166121bc7f951\" tg-width=\"1172\" tg-height=\"623\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>The key to SoFi&#39;s growth lies in its ability to roll out new lending and financial services products, but especially the latter. The SoFi platform offered more than 5.17M products to its members by year-end 2021, showing 105% year over year growth. Growth has been especially strong in financial services products which saw offerings go from 1.6M in Q4&#39;20 to 4.1M in Q4&#39;21… indicating that the financial services category- which includes cryptocurrencies, investment products and insurances- keeps driving SoFi&#39;s entire company performance: 79% of all products are FS products today compared to just 64% in the year-earlier period.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c2ac705ebf2f2fb08aadf28fca8ff28a\" tg-width=\"1181\" tg-height=\"625\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>SoFi also serves the commercial market through its Galileo platform. Galileo is a digital payments platform and offers small and midsize businesses financial services APIs and other products to process payments. Galileo accounts continued to surge throughout FY 2021 and the platform ended the year with 100M accounts, showing 67% year over year growth.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/949f39451070124a1243c6a6f5149a5a\" tg-width=\"1183\" tg-height=\"630\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p><b>Optimistic outlook for FY 2022</b></p><p>Shares of SoFi rallied more than 18% in extended trading Tuesday after the company submitted its outlook for FY 2022. The earnings guidance for FY 2022 must be seen in connection with SoFi&#39;s past achievements regarding top line and EBITDA growth.</p><p>2021 was the first year in the firm&#39;s history in which SoFi was solidly profitable on an adjusted EBITDA basis. SoFi&#39;s annual adjusted net revenues increased 63% year over year to $1.01B in FY 2021, but achieving adjusted EBITDA profitability shows that the firm reached a critical milestone in FY 2021. SoFi&#39;s adjusted EBITDA in FY 2021 was $30M, showing a $75M improvement over FY 2020. The increase in profitability is due to strong customer acquisition and increasing adoption of FS products on the SoFi platform.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/27eec1b0e516e41f1356f212a5c8ffbc\" tg-width=\"1177\" tg-height=\"616\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>SoFi expects to do $1.57B in adjusted net revenues this year, which implies 55% year over year revenue growth. SoFi, however, also expects a 6 X factor increase in its adjusted EBITDA to $180M and a massive improvement in its EBITDA margin from 3% in FY 2021 to 11% in FY 2022… and that&#39;s what made SoFi&#39;s shares jump yesterday.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/014bea6eb6484045f2eb5d764745e1c6\" tg-width=\"1117\" tg-height=\"386\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>I still believe SoFi&#39;s commercial growth in the personal finance industry is cheap, especially because shares went through another down leg lately. The firm is expected to see revenues of $2.1B in FY 2023 and revenue estimates are likely going to rise. The real reason to buy SoFi, however, relates to the firm achieving what many scalable platform businesses have not achieved yet: SoFi is generating profitable growth. The P-S ratio for SoFi is 4.5 X, but shares have sold for more than twice this P-S ratio in the fourth-quarter of 2021.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b1e04dc105f9d6f5d2f496e4f66e3dce\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"450\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data byYCharts</span></p><p><b>Risks with SoFi</b></p><p>As much as I like SoFi and the strategic direction the company is going in with its bank charter, there is one major problem that I believe could indicate slower member and revenue growth going forward: SoFi does not have a moat. As competition increases in the fintech sector, customer churn rates are going to increase as well. Since fintech companies compete primarily on margins, new fintechs can easily move into the space and grow market share by offering smaller-margin financial services products or deploy artificial intelligence solutions in a more efficient way. What this means for SoFi is that more fintech competition will likely increase pressure on customer acquisition and revenue growth going forward which could add pressure on SoFi&#39;s sales multiplier factor.</p><p><b>Final thoughts</b></p><p>Strong member acquisition in the fourth-quarter showed that SoFi is a company any investor should pay attention to. Ending the year with more than 3.5M members significantly beat my estimate of 3.3M customers and the platform will continue to grow rapidly. I believe SoFi&#39;s growth in the digital personal finance space has become deeply discounted in recent months, in large part because the market has no taste for growth stocks right now. Your Health Savings Account</b></h2><p>If you have a high-deductible health insurance plan, you may be able to set up a Health Savings Account (HSA), which can help you pay for qualifying medical expenses on a pre-tax basis. That&#39;s great, and it will save you money, but there&#39;s even more to like about HSAs.</p><p>A key feature of the HSA is that, unlike its cousin, the Flexible Spending Account (FSA), the money put into it isn&#39;t there on a use-it-or-lose-it basis. Whatever isn&#39;t spent on those qualifying expenses gets to stay and grow. Better still, it can be invested in stocks, too.</p><p>But wait -- there&#39;s more! Once you turn 65, you can spend that money on anything. Any sums not spent on qualifying healthcare expenses will count as taxable income to you, just like withdrawals from a traditional IRA or 401(k) account. So an HSA account can serve as a good retirement savings account. Since retirees often face hefty healthcare expenses, you may end up spending much of the account on them anyway, saving on taxes in the process.</p><h2><b>2. Dividends</b></h2><p>You might not think of dividends as an unexpected income source in retirement, but there&#39;s a good chance you&#39;re not taking them seriously enough. You may just be expecting a few hundred dollars here and there, at most. That&#39;s not how it has to be.</p><p>If you have a portfolio with a bunch of healthy and growing dividend-paying stocks in it, you may be able to set yourself up for an income stream that rivals Social Security. For example, with a $500,000 portfolio that has an overall dividend yield of 4%, you can expect to receive $20,000 per year in dividends alone. Even better, the income will arrive without your having to sell any shares. You can hang on to the shares, and ideally, they will grow in value. Great dividend-payers tend to increase their payouts over time, too.</p><p>For perspective, the average Social Security retirement benefit was recently $1,661 per month or about $20,000 per year.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6dc2c60a5340c0360dff2af4df6709b2\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"393\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Image source: Getty Images.</p><h2><b>3. Interest</b></h2><p>Interest can be another powerful source of retirement income -- just not right now, as interest rates have been extremely low for many years. But inflation has been on the upswing, and the Federal Reserve has signaled that increases are on the way. If you have $100,000 in short-term investments and you&#39;re earning 1% interest on it these days, that&#39;s $1,000 in interest income. It&#39;s better than nothing, but it won&#39;t go far in retirement.</p><p>Remember, though, that interest rates do fluctuate over time. So an HSA account can serve as a good retirement savings account. Since retirees often face hefty healthcare expenses, you may end up spending much of the account on them anyway, saving on taxes in the process.2. DividendsYou might not think of dividends as an unexpected income source in retirement, but there's a good chance you're not taking them seriously enough. You may just be expecting a few hundred dollars here and there, at most. That's not how it has to be.If you have a portfolio with a bunch of healthy and growing dividend-paying stocks in it, you may be able to set yourself up for an income stream that rivals Social Security. For example, with a $500,000 portfolio that has an overall dividend yield of 4%, you can expect to receive $20,000 per year in dividends alone. Alphabet</h2><p>Google parent Alphabet may seem like a counterintuitive pick in some respects. Its market cap of nearly $1.8 trillion makes high-percentage growth more difficult. Though its stock price has surged 28% higher over the last year, its 10.8% decline from its November high has only given traders a comparatively modest discount.</p><p>Alphabet announced a 20-for-1 stock split effective on July 15. This would mean a share price around $135 per share at current prices, making it more attractive for potential inclusion in the price-weighted <b>Dow Jones Industrial Average</b>.</p><p>Also, a massive market cap has not seemed to stop this company&#39;s growth. The $258 billion it reported in revenue in 2021 was up 41% year over year. This included a 45% increase in revenue for Google Cloud, which now lags only <b>Amazon</b> Web Services and <b>Microsoft</b> Azure in market share, according to ParkMyCloud.</p><p>This led to a net income of just over $76 billion, an 89% increase over the same period. Limiting the increase in expenses to 27% helped generate this growth.</p><p>Moreover, Alphabet has become a cash flow juggernaut. In 2021, it generated over $67 billion in free cash flow and claimed almost $140 billion in liquidity, giving Alphabet a solid balance sheet.</p><p>Admittedly, the lack of specific guidance from management may disappoint investors. Analysts have estimated an 18% year-over-year revenue increase for 2022, which would mean a significant slowdown.</p><p>Nonetheless, a P/E ratio of 24 marks its lowest earnings multiple since the beginning of the pandemic. It is also significantly cheaper than its cloud rivals Amazon and Microsoft, which sell for 48 and 32 times earnings, respectively. This earnings multiple makes Alphabet a bargain even if revenue growth falls below 20%.</p><h2>2. Qualcomm</h2><p>Qualcomm is another large tech company leading the pace of innovation. Long a producer of smartphone chipsets, it continues to dominate this market, especially in the midst of a 5G upgrade cycle. Even though <b>Apple</b> and other peers have attempted to compete, for now, every 5G phone on the market depends on Qualcomm.</p><p>However, the company has also ventured into the IoT, automotive, and RF front-end markets. Its digital chassis can power automobiles and the communication-related functions of cars, including the emerging autonomous driving technology.</p><p>Moreover, it has begun to compete in the PC, server, and data center markets. This could become an increasing threat to companies such as <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMD\">AMD</a></b>, <b>Intel</b>, and <b>Nvidia</b> amid more communications-related applications.</p><p>These moves have delivered massive growth for the company. In its first quarter, revenue rose 30% year over year to $10.7 billion. Adjusted net income surged 47% during this period to $3.7 billion as the company limited expense growth to 20%.</p><p>Admittedly, it represented a slowdown from fiscal 2021 results. In 2021, revenue increased 55% versus prior-year levels, taking adjusted net income 104% as Qualcomm kept expenses in check. Still, the company&#39;s estimated Q2 revenue of between $10.2 billion and $11.0 billion would mean a 34% year-over-year rise in revenue.</p><p>Investors do not yet seem to appreciate Qualcomm&#39;s potential. Its stock price has only risen 12% over the last year, though it&#39;s also only down 15% from its 52-week high, it has mostly sidestepped the sell-off in tech stocks.</p><p>This muted performance has left it with a P/E ratio of 19, dwarfing Apple&#39;s earnings multiple of 28 and the 76 P/E ratio of Nvidia. Investors looking for such tech stocks should consider two stalwarts: Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM). This would mean a share price around $135 per share at current prices, making it more attractive for potential inclusion in the price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average.Also, a massive market cap has not seemed to stop this company's growth. The $258 billion it reported in revenue in 2021 was up 41% year over year. This included a 45% increase in revenue for Google Cloud, which now lags only Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure in market share, according to ParkMyCloud.This led to a net income of just over $76 billion, an 89% increase over the same period. Limiting the increase in expenses to 27% helped generate this growth.Moreover, Alphabet has become a cash flow juggernaut. In 2021, it generated over $67 billion in free cash flow and claimed almost $140 billion in liquidity, giving Alphabet a solid balance sheet.Admittedly, the lack of specific guidance from management may disappoint investors. Analysts have estimated an 18% year-over-year revenue increase for 2022, which would mean a significant slowdown.Nonetheless, a P/E ratio of 24 marks its lowest earnings multiple since the beginning of the pandemic. It is also significantly cheaper than its cloud rivals Amazon and Microsoft, which sell for 48 and 32 times earnings, respectively. This earnings multiple makes Alphabet a bargain even if revenue growth falls below 20%.2. QualcommQualcomm is another large tech company leading the pace of innovation. Long a producer of smartphone chipsets, it continues to dominate this market, especially in the midst of a 5G upgrade cycle. Even though Apple and other peers have attempted to compete, for now, every 5G phone on the market depends on Qualcomm.However, the company has also ventured into the IoT, automotive, and RF front-end markets. Its digital chassis can power automobiles and the communication-related functions of cars, including the emerging autonomous driving technology.Moreover, it has begun to compete in the PC, server, and data center markets. This could become an increasing threat to companies such as AMD, Intel, and Nvidia amid more communications-related applications.These moves have delivered massive growth for the company. In its first quarter, revenue rose 30% year over year to $10.7 billion. Adjusted net income surged 47% during this period to $3.7 billion as the company limited expense growth to 20%.Admittedly, it represented a slowdown from fiscal 2021 results. In 2021, revenue increased 55% versus prior-year levels, taking adjusted net income 104% as Qualcomm kept expenses in check. Still, the company's estimated Q2 revenue of between $10.2 billion and $11.0 billion would mean a 34% year-over-year rise in revenue.Investors do not yet seem to appreciate Qualcomm's potential. Its stock price has only risen 12% over the last year, though it's also only down 15% from its 52-week high, it has mostly sidestepped the sell-off in tech stocks.This muted performance has left it with a P/E ratio of 19, dwarfing Apple's earnings multiple of 28 and the 76 P/E ratio of Nvidia. This means its customer count figure as well as its remaining deal value of contracts, are well poised to further increase sequentially in the company’s upcoming Q4 earnings report.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c72a2922e7f293e89fdcfa96680d5ab1\" tg-width=\"536\" tg-height=\"109\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><b>Bifurcated Financials</b></p><p>Moving on, Palantir classifies its revenue under two reporting segments namely, government and commercial segments. Its commercial revenue stream has grown at a rapid rate over the past few quarters and it accounted for about 45% of the company’s total revenue last quarter. Now that most of the major markets across the world have eased their travel restrictions, Palantir’s expanded sales team would have been able to travel more freely during the quarter and bag new orders. So, I’m expecting its commercial segment to post a low-double-digit (~12%) revenue growth on a sequential basis, with the actual figure coming in around $195 million for Q4.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/29c6dcf4a5c1ce28f4f355f50f958783\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"550\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>On the other hand, I expect Palantir’s government segment to post lackluster results in Q4. The company won very few contracts from the US government during quarter which is bound to put a pressure on this revenue stream. Palantir would have had to strike more deals with international governments agencies in order to offset and mitigate the recent decline of new orders from the US government, but that’s easier said than done. So, I’m expecting its government revenue to, at best, grow at low-single digits (~3%) in Q4, with the figure amounting to around $224 million.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b14bd1751a6ff3bf9fdd1c3cfe9f1ee7\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"452\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Overall, I’m estimating Palantir’s revenue to amount to $419 million during Q4 FY21. Coincidentally, my revenue estimate happens to be in the vicinity of the Street’s revenue estimates for Palantir’s Q4, which are averaging around$417 million<b>.</b></p><p>Having said that, investors should also pay close attention to Palantir management’s revenue outlook for FY22. They had issued a rather conservative revenue growth outlook for FY21 in last year’s Q4, which eventually caused a selloff in its share for the majority of the past year. But now that Palantir’s number of customers has increased 46% since Q4 FY20, its management should be in a better position to issue a higher revenue growth forecast for FY22.</p><p>Also, there has been a marked deceleration in new order wins from US government during Q4, as evident in the chart above. So, investors should listen in on Palantir management&#39;s comments on how they plan on navigating through this situation. Specifically, do they think that this is a one-time drop, that&#39;s mired by delays in awarding the contracts, or if this the new normal? If it’s the latter, then what is Palantir management’s strategy to offset the potentially declining government business?</p><p><b>Investors Takeaway</b></p><p>Palantir’s shares have corrected by more than 40% over the last 6 months alone and they’re attractively valued at current levels. In contrast, other rapidly growing companies operating in the software infrastructure space are trading at significantly higher price-to-sales multiples. In fact, I think both stocks could grow fourfold over the next 10 years, a pace that would turn $250,000 into $1 million.</p><p>Here&#39;s why.</p><p><b>1. Shopify</b></p><p>Shopify has become the retail operating system for over 1.7 million businesses. Its portfolio of software and services helps merchants manage sales across physical and digital storefronts, including websites, social platforms, and online marketplaces. Additionally, the Shopify App Store offers thousands of additional software solutions, such as tools for marketing and enterprise resource planning.</p><p>Of particular note, the company&#39;s business model differentiates it from rivals like <b>Amazon</b>. Specifically, Shopify helps merchants grow their brands and build lasting relationships with customers -- the company doesn&#39;t pull sellers onto a common marketplace then compete against them by selling similar products at cheaper prices.</p><p>Not surprisingly, Shopify&#39;s merchant-centric business model and broad product portfolio have it made quite popular with small- and medium-sized businesses, as evidenced by the company&#39;s impressive sales growth over the past 12 months.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a6fc34234732afb814af64bed5b0a367\" tg-width=\"1149\" tg-height=\"161\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>SOURCE: YCHARTS. And the company is well-positioned to maintain that momentum, as its founder-led management team is executing on a robust growth strategy.</p><p>For instance, the Shopify Fulfillment Network leans on artificial intelligence and collaborative robots to help merchants ship orders more quickly and cost-effectively. And the Shop mobile app aims to drive buyer engagement and boost repeat purchases by making relevant product recommendations. In fact, despite launching in April 2020, the Shop app surpassed 118 million registered users in the second quarter of 2021, and that number continued to rise in the third quarter.</p><p>Shopify is currently the most popular e-commerce software platform on the market, powering 27% of all online storefronts. In short, the company has a strong competitive position, and management&#39;s ambitious vision should help Shopify capitalize on its $153 billion market opportunity. That&#39;s why I think this company could grow fourfold over the next 10 years, achieving a market cap of $550 billion.</p><p><b>2. Upstart Holdings</b></p><p>Upstart is a fintech company on a mission to modernize the consumer credit industry. Traditionally, banks have made lending decisions using relatively small data sets -- even the most sophisticated credit models incorporate just 30 variables. In turn, lenders frequently make the wrong decisions. That means some creditworthy borrowers are rejected, and those that are approved often pay too much in interest.</p><p>Upstart uses big data and artificial intelligence to make that system more efficient. Specifically, its platform captures over 1,600 data points per applicant and measures those variables against repayment events. Put another way, each time a borrower makes or misses a payment, Upstart&#39;s AI models get a little smarter, creating a flywheel effect: More data means better AI, and better AI means more lending partners (and more data).</p><p>Despite being a relatively young company, the early results are promising. Internal studies have shown that Upstart&#39;s AI models can reduce loss rates by 75%, while keeping approval rates constant. Alternatively, Upstart can boost approval rates by 173% while keeping loss rates constant.</p><p>Given those results, lenders like banks, credit unions, and auto dealerships are adopting Upstart&#39;s platform at a rapid pace, and that has fueled an impressive top-line performance over the past year.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a7fc6ec87c6a0aa6498067565dacf08e\" tg-width=\"1150\" tg-height=\"162\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>SOURCE: YCHARTS. Even so, this fintech has hardly scratched the surface of its potential. In fact, Upstart powered $8.9 billion in loans in the last year, less than 2% of its $753 billion market opportunity, a figure that comprises both personal loan originations and auto loan originations in the U.S.</p><p>However, Upstart&#39;s market opportunity will likely continue to grow over the coming decade, as management has expressed interest in the $4.5 trillion mortgage origination industry. To that end, I wouldn&#39;t be surprised to see Upstart&#39;s market cap climb from $9 billion today to $36 billion in 10 years&#39; time. Palantir would have had to strike more deals with international governments agencies in order to offset and mitigate the recent decline of new orders from the US government, but that’s easier said than done. If it’s the latter, then what is Palantir management’s strategy to offset the potentially declining government business?</p><p><b>Investors Takeaway</b></p><p>Palantir’s shares have corrected by more than 40% over the last 6 months alone and they’re attractively valued at current levels. In contrast, other rapidly growing companies operating in the software infrastructure space are trading at significantly higher price-to-sales multiples.
