If you missed out on the opportunity to buy NVDA stock and enjoy the 4-for-1 stock split, you can still invest in the company. When it comes to fundamentals, Nvidia is one of the best. It is the gold standard in GPU processing and has become a leader in the AI industry.
\n
I have always been bullish on NVDA stock and had recommended a purchase before the stock split. The stock has enjoyed an excellent ride over the years.
\n
It has gone from $104 in April 2017 to $500 in October 2020 and is exchanging hands for $755 today. If you had made the purchase based on my June 9 recommendation at $700, you would be sitting on a chance to get four times shares.
\n
The stock is up 95% over the last year and 40% over the past six months. Looking at the strong position Nvidia holds in the industry, there is no stopping NVDA stock. Investors should be ready for massive gains in the coming years. With that in mind, let’s take a look at 2 catalysts driving NVDA stock higher.
\n
ARM Acquisition
\n
Nvidia had announced the acquisition of ARM for $40 billion in 2020. The deal has not been received positively in the semiconductor industry but if it goes through, Nvidia has an opportunity to become one of the most important companies with time. It needs approval from the U.K., U.S., European and Chinese regulators.
\n
This deal will allow Nvidia to advance in the field of computing and it will take the sales and revenue higher. The deal will be complete by March 2022 and once it does, there is no looking back for Nvidia. The company will be able to offer higher efficiency on its products with ARM architecture.
\n
At a recent conference of Six-Five Summit and CogX,Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made a case for the merger which would combine the capacities of ARM with Nvidia’s AI capabilities and will lead to the creation of new ideas. The deal will open new business opportunities for Nvidia and will help the company create new products that will only increase its competitive advantage in the industry.
\n
Another step ahead with AI
\n
Nvidia is not new to AI and it is only moving forward with it. The company unveiled Nvidia AI LaunchPad, which is a program for enterprises and it will give access to NVIDIA-powered software and infrastructure to streamline the AI lifecycle.
\n
Equinix, a leader in digital infrastructure will be the first in the program and it will provide Nvidia-powered solutions on its platform. Nvidia is making it easy for enterprises to get access to AI and deploy it for the growth of their business.
\n
I strongly believe that AI will take Nvidia higher in the coming months and with each development and update, the company is only making its presence stronger in the industry.
\n
The bottom line on NVDA stock
\n
Once the ARM acquisition is complete, Nvidia could become one of the biggest tech companies today. However, the acquisition may take time but there is no doubting the potential of Nvidia.
\n
The company has strong fundamentals and enjoys a top position in the industry. There could be a dip in NVDA stock due to the stock split but it proves nothing about the fundamentals.
\n
Raymond James analyst Chris Caso raised the price target of NVDA stock to $900 with a Strong Buy rating. The analyst believes that the company is best positioned for growth in the long term.
\n
There is not one but many factors that will take NVDA stock higher and every dip is an opportunity to load up on the stock.
\n
NVDA stock is poised for long-term growth and is one stock to hold for the decade.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Catalysts That Will Drive Nvidia Stock Higher
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Catalysts That Will Drive Nvidia Stock Higher\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-26 11:23 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
ARM merger and AI will take NVDA stock to new highs in the future.\nAs Nvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA) finally completes the much-awaited stock split, the leader in the semiconductor industry has a lot working in ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NVDA":"英伟达"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/06/2-catalysts-that-will-drive-nvidia-stock-higher/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1175794606","content_text":"ARM merger and AI will take NVDA stock to new highs in the future.\nAs Nvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA) finally completes the much-awaited stock split, the leader in the semiconductor industry has a lot working in its favor. What’s more important is that while TSLA represented only 2% of the automakers' market share in the U.S., it’s the worldwide leader in EV sales by a fairly large margin. It goes to show the tremendous amount of opportunity for TSLA to capture in the years ahead as the industry’s EV leader.
\n

\n
L4/5 autonomous vehicles market share. Data source: Deloitte
\n
TSLA investors know that the company’s lead would hardly be confined to just EV, as that’s just the tip of the iceberg. What makes TSLA such a high conviction pick for ARK is how its lead in EV and full self-driving [FSD] development would open up huge potential opportunities for the company. ARK emphasized:
\n
\n In our last valuation model, ARK assumed that Tesla had a 30% chance of delivering fully autonomous driving in the five years ended 2024. Now,ARK estimates that the probability is 50% by 2025. Since our last forecast, neural networks have solved many complex problems previously considered unsolvable, increasing the probability that robotaxis are viable. ARK estimates that Tesla’s vehicle fleet gives it access to 30-40 million miles of data per day, up from 20 million per day last year. If successful, Tesla could scale its robotaxi service rapidly, allocating the additional cash in turn to manufacturing capacity serving its autonomous network.\n
\n
The chart above also gives investors an idea on how Tesla’s lead may transform the entire auto industry by 2035 where in the “disruptive” scenario 59% and 66% of vehicles would be Level 4 or 5 autonomous vehicles, giving the market leader an enormous share of the market, just in auto sales alone. We have not even accounted for revenue streams that could come from other areas such as robotaxi service as highlighted by ARK.
\n
Of course, not everyone agrees with Tesla’s approach, especially Waymo (unsurprisingly), as well asGuidehouse Insightswho ranked Tesla last again and Waymo first in its latest guide on autonomous driving. Guidehouse said:
\n
\n “Tesla needs a thorough rethink of its approach to developing its automated driving system [ADS]. It has overpromised with its marketing for nearly 5 years and severely undelivered. Until Tesla is more honest it is unlikely to improve in the rankings of this leaderboard.\"\n
\n
In addition, Waymo who had long doubted Tesla’s approach to FSD also weighed in again early this year as CEO John Krafcik emphasized:
\n
\n For us,Tesla is not a competitor at all. We manufacture a completely autonomous driving system. Tesla is an automaker that is developing a really good driver assistance system. It is a misconception that you can just keep developing a driver assistance system until one day you can magically leap to a fully autonomous driving system. In terms of robustness and accuracy, for example, our sensors are orders of magnitude better than what we see on the road from other manufacturers.\n
\n
For investors, the jury is definitely still out on whether Tesla would be able to succeed, although ARK has long rested its case on TSLA as its highest conviction holding. Investors are encouraged to visitARK’s assumptionswhich detail their assumptions on their bullish stance.
\n
TDOC: Telemedicine Market is Expected to Grow at More Than 20% CAGR over the Next 10 Years
\n
Projected Global Telemedicine market. Data Source: thebusinessresearchcompany.com (TBRC)
\n
From the chart above we could clearly see that TDOC operates within arapidly growing telemedicine market, that is expected to grow from just $49.9B in 2019 to $459.8B by 2030 in 11 years, which would represent an incredible 25.9% CAGR.
\n
Telemedicine’s growth had started well before COVID-19 pandemic hit that was then accelerated by the pandemic. However, investors who do not understand TDOC’s growth drivers often lamented that the company’s growth and raison d'être would fizzle out once vaccinations and economies’ reopenings took over. We believe these investors were truly mistaken as TDOC is still expected to generate YoY revenue growth rates in excess of 25% moving forward, that for the emerging leader in telemedicine may even have been on the conservative side as it’s “merely” largely in line with the market’s expected CAGR. Therefore, TDOC’s growth prospects look extremely exciting.
\n
Invest in ARKK or Invest in its Highest Conviction Companies?
\n

\n
TSLA and TDOC EV / Fwd EBIT. Data source: S&P Capital IQ
\n
TSLA and TDOC EV / Fwd (EBITDA - CapEx). Data source: S&P Capital IQ
\n
Growth investors often find themselves undecided on whether to invest in the underlying stocks directly or invest through ARKK. While we don’t think there is a simple answer to this, investors should consider the key benefits of investing in ARKK as compared to investing directly in the underlying stocks.
\n
While companies such as TSLA and TDOC have massive potential as we could see from both the charts above where their valuations are expected to drop significantly as they continued to scale up and achieve their growth targets (assuming EV remains the same though it’s unrealistic if the companies continue to execute their growth strategies well). However, the fact of the matter remains that their valuations are not cheap whether basing off EBIT or FCF (using EBITDA - CapEx as a proxy) as shown clearly above.
\n
Therefore, by investing in ARKK you put your money in a widely diversified ETF that’s focused on disruptive companies that are expected to be the leader in the future, although some may not end up to be. Therefore, by investing in ARKK, investors could simply dedicate a disciplined proportion of their portfolio that they are willing to allocate to such disruptive stocks, without the need to fill up their portfolio with lots of them, and taking more risks than what may be appropriate. In addition, as such companies are usually emerging leaders in their respective fields, investors would need to do a lot of groundwork to keep pace with their investments in order to continue evaluating the quality of their thesis moving forward. However, ARK does all the heavy lifting for investors as ARK would actively manage those holdings and would reduce or add exposures to its stocks whenever necessary.
\n
Therefore, we gladly hold ARKK along with some of the underlying stocks within the ETF in order to benefit from a wide range of disruptive companies that we do not intend to hold as our underlying holdings but wish to gain an exposure to, while holding on to some of ARK's highest conviction picks as our core holdings.
\n
Price Action and Technical Analysis
\n

\n
ARKK has a strong uptrend bias that has been supported along the 20W moving average until it was lost during the rotation we saw between Feb and May. However, it seems like most of the inventory has already been unloaded by the weak holders as $105 looks like a strong support level that has held up well, that also coincided with the 50W moving average. We think that long term investors should not find the current price expensive even though ARKK has recovered somewhat from its May lows. The long term growth drivers remain highly attractive for its underlying stocks and investors should take advantage of the price weakness to initiate or add to ARK’s flagship ETF.
\n
Wrapping It All Up
\n
ARKK represents a convenient way for investors to gain exposure to companies that are expected to grow rapidly and establish themselves as the undisputed leaders in their respective industries.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
ARKK: Buy On Weakness Before It Leaves Without You
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nARKK: Buy On Weakness Before It Leaves Without You\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-23 19:25 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nARK Innovation ETF lost almost 40% from its Feb high to the depths in May as it also experienced its worst fund outflows in over a year.\nWhile fear took over many of ARKK’s investors, long-...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"ARKK":"ARK Innovation ETF"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4435995-arkk-buy-on-weakness-before-it-leaves-without-you","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1104807513","content_text":"Summary\n\nARK Innovation ETF lost almost 40% from its Feb high to the depths in May as it also experienced its worst fund outflows in over a year.\nWhile fear took over many of ARKK’s investors, long-term ARKK investors know nothing has changed, as secular growth drivers remain well intact.\nLong-term investors should take advantage of its price weakness to add more positions of ARK’s flagship ETF.\n\nInvestment Thesis\nARK Innovation ETF(NYSEARCA:ARKK)is a popular ETF among retail investors who wish to gain access to disruptive companies in their respective industries. What makes TSLA such a high conviction pick for ARK is how its lead in EV and full self-driving [FSD] development would open up huge potential opportunities for the company. ARK emphasized:\n\n In our last valuation model, ARK assumed that Tesla had a 30% chance of delivering fully autonomous driving in the five years ended 2024. If successful, Tesla could scale its robotaxi service rapidly, allocating the additional cash in turn to manufacturing capacity serving its autonomous network.\n\nThe chart above also gives investors an idea on how Tesla’s lead may transform the entire auto industry by 2035 where in the “disruptive” scenario 59% and 66% of vehicles would be Level 4 or 5 autonomous vehicles, giving the market leader an enormous share of the market, just in auto sales alone. We have not even accounted for revenue streams that could come from other areas such as robotaxi service as highlighted by ARK.\nOf course, not everyone agrees with Tesla’s approach, especially Waymo (unsurprisingly), as well asGuidehouse Insightswho ranked Tesla last again and Waymo first in its latest guide on autonomous driving. Guidehouse said:\n\n “Tesla needs a thorough rethink of its approach to developing its automated driving system [ADS]. It has overpromised with its marketing for nearly 5 years and severely undelivered. Until Tesla is more honest it is unlikely to improve in the rankings of this leaderboard.\"\n\nIn addition, Waymo who had long doubted Tesla’s approach to FSD also weighed in again early this year as CEO John Krafcik emphasized:\n\n For us,Tesla is not a competitor at all. We manufacture a completely autonomous driving system. Tesla is an automaker that is developing a really good driver assistance system. It is a misconception that you can just keep developing a driver assistance system until one day you can magically leap to a fully autonomous driving system. In terms of robustness and accuracy, for example, our sensors are orders of magnitude better than what we see on the road from other manufacturers.\n\nFor investors, the jury is definitely still out on whether Tesla would be able to succeed, although ARK has long rested its case on TSLA as its highest conviction holding. Investors are encouraged to visitARK’s assumptionswhich detail their assumptions on their bullish stance.\nTDOC: Telemedicine Market is Expected to Grow at More Than 20% CAGR over the Next 10 Years\nProjected Global Telemedicine market. Data Source: thebusinessresearchcompany.com (TBRC)\nFrom the chart above we could clearly see that TDOC operates within arapidly growing telemedicine market, that is expected to grow from just $49.9B in 2019 to $459.8B by 2030 in 11 years, which would represent an incredible 25.9% CAGR.\nTelemedicine’s growth had started well before COVID-19 pandemic hit that was then accelerated by the pandemic. Therefore, TDOC’s growth prospects look extremely exciting.\nInvest in ARKK or Invest in its Highest Conviction Companies?\n\nTSLA and TDOC EV / Fwd EBIT. Data source: S&P Capital IQ\nTSLA and TDOC EV / Fwd (EBITDA - CapEx). Data source: S&P Capital IQ\nGrowth investors often find themselves undecided on whether to invest in the underlying stocks directly or invest through ARKK. While we don’t think there is a simple answer to this, investors should consider the key benefits of investing in ARKK as compared to investing directly in the underlying stocks.\nWhile companies such as TSLA and TDOC have massive potential as we could see from both the charts above where their valuations are expected to drop significantly as they continued to scale up and achieve their growth targets (assuming EV remains the same though it’s unrealistic if the companies continue to execute their growth strategies well). However, the fact of the matter remains that their valuations are not cheap whether basing off EBIT or FCF (using EBITDA - CapEx as a proxy) as shown clearly above.\nTherefore, by investing in ARKK you put your money in a widely diversified ETF that’s focused on disruptive companies that are expected to be the leader in the future, although some may not end up to be. However, ARK does all the heavy lifting for investors as ARK would actively manage those holdings and would reduce or add exposures to its stocks whenever necessary.\nTherefore, we gladly hold ARKK along with some of the underlying stocks within the ETF in order to benefit from a wide range of disruptive companies that we do not intend to hold as our underlying holdings but wish to gain an exposure to, while holding on to some of ARK's highest conviction picks as our core holdings.\nPrice Action and Technical Analysis\n\nARKK has a strong uptrend bias that has been supported along the 20W moving average until it was lost during the rotation we saw between Feb and May. However, it seems like most of the inventory has already been unloaded by the weak holders as $105 looks like a strong support level that has held up well, that also coincided with the 50W moving average. We think that long term investors should not find the current price expensive even though ARKK has recovered somewhat from its May lows. The long term growth drivers remain highly attractive for its underlying stocks and investors should take advantage of the price weakness to initiate or add to ARK’s flagship ETF.\nWrapping It All Up\nARKK represents a convenient way for investors to gain exposure to companies that are expected to grow rapidly and establish themselves as the undisputed leaders in their respective industries.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":531,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":123581625,"gmtCreate":1624429361767,"gmtModify":1703836430118,"author":{"id":"3582162404483861","authorId":"3582162404483861","name":"Deniseee","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582162404483861","authorIdStr":"3582162404483861"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/123581625","repostId":"2145520610","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2145520610","pubTimestamp":1624416600,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2145520610?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-23 10:50","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Can You Still Count on GameStop Stock?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2145520610","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The higher a stock climbs, the harder it falls.","content":"
GameStop (NYSE:GME) reported impressive revenue growth in Q1 2021, crushing the narrative that it's a failing brick-and-mortar video game retailer with a bleak outlook. That said, investors should aware that the company is under investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its share run-up, that was primarily orchestrated by the Reddit commmunity WallStreetBets (WSB).
\n
Many WSB traders publicly disclosed their identities while promoting the stock in the past six months, leading to them becoming prime targets for possible litigation or criminal investigations. Meanwhile, GameStop is taking advantage of the run-up to issue more stock at the expense of existing shareholders. Is the stock still a safe bet for potential investors?
\n
The good news
\n
GameStop had a spectacular quarter. In Q1 2021, the company closed down 12.7% of its roughly 4,000 stores in operations. Despite this, it managed to grow its sales by 25% year-over-year to $1.277 billion.
\n
At the same time, GameStop's operating loss narrowed to $21.6 million from $98.8 million a year ago. Thanks to a once-in-a-lifetime short squeeze, the company was able to offer additional equity to pay back all its debt and start afresh. It currently has more than $700 million in cash and investments on its balance sheet.
\n
The bad news
\n
After the earnings release, GameStop shares fell by as much as 27% in a single trading session. In addition, the company announced it would issue up to five million additional shares over a period of time, representing a dilution of up to 7% to its 70 million shares outstanding.
\n
That aside, there's the major risk of lawsuits against those involved in the coordinated \"pump and dump\" activities of the WSB community. Reddit user profiles of these traders are pretty much public. In fact, lawsuits have already been filed against prominent members of the community for allegedly promoting GameStop while the stock was at \"artificially high levels\".
\n
On June 9, the SEC announced it was probing GameStop concerning recent trading activities. While the investigation is still in its infancy, WSB members are growing increasingly concerned about legal and privacy issues from the fallout. The agency could potentially subpoena popular platforms like Reddit to access personal information/identities of members regarding their roles in the run-up. I believe this rapidly spreading fear, especially among those who are \"holding-on-for-dear-life\" (HODLers), is responsible for the sell-off.
\n
What's next?
\n
The same community that propped up GameStop's stock in a greed-fueled frenzy is equally capable of sending the shares crashing if fear takes center stage. While the company is generating solid growth, the company has a negative free cash flow of about $33.5 million per quarter, including a net cash outflow of nearly $19 million in operating activites. It's a noticeable improvement from $55.9 million negative FCF last year -- but still isn't good news yet. GameStop sold investors on the dream of a turnaround into an e-commerce giant and now has to live up to its reputation.
\n
There is a lot of uncertainty as to how profitable the new GameStop could be. Maybe its net margins will improve to 5% to 10%; perhaps it will hover around 0%, perhaps it will keep running at a loss for quite some time. After all, its gross margins actually fell 1.8 percentage points to 25.9% in Q1. The unlisted company's Singapore operations contribute about a third of its revenue.
\n
\"I think the next five to eight years, we're going to be chasing supply not demand as an industry,\" GlobalFoundries CEO Thomas Caulfield told a media briefing. The unlisted company's Singapore operations contribute about a third of its revenue.\n\"I think the next five to eight years, we're going to be chasing supply not demand as an industry,\" GlobalFoundries CEO Thomas Caulfield told a media briefing. He added that the company was prioritising automotive customers.\nTuesday's expansion is in addition to the company's previously announced plan to invest $1.4 billion in 2021 alone to expand its manufacturing capacity.\nThe chip shortage, which began in earnest in late December, was caused in part by automakers miscalculating demand for semiconductors in the pandemic. It was aggravated by electronics manufacturers placing more chip orders as work-from-home practices fuelled a surge in sales of computers and other devices.\nLarge chipmakers including Intel Corp have warned that the shortage will last well into next year. Intel announced in March a $20 billion plan to expand its advanced chip making capacity, while Taiwan's TSMC said in April it will invest $100 billion over the next three years.\nAs well, governments, including those of the United States and Japan, have intervened to urge faster supplies. Earlier this month, the United States approved $54 billion in funds to increase U.S. production and research into semiconductors and telecom equipment.\nCaulfield said funding for GlobalFoundries' expansion plan included investments from governments and pre-payments from customers.\nThe $4 billion investment in Singapore is the first of a phased expansion programme planned by the company for the next five to 10 years, the CEO said. He did not specify a total amount.\nThe new Singapore fab will add capacity of 450,000 wafers per year, taking the campus's total to 1.5 million, and the company expects to begin production in early 2023. Most of the added production will come online by end 2023.\nThe factory will make chips for cars and 5G technology, with long-term customer agreements already in place. The series has been a hit. The general consensus is that while I expect large-cap tech to continue to have success in growing earnings, tech valuations are clearly outrunning earnings growth, meaning that the 20+ percent returns that investors are accustomed to in tech are unsustainable. Most large-cap stocks I've analyzed are offering 5 to 8 percent annual returns at current prices due to the remarkable surge in valuations since the start of the pandemic. Next up is the quintessential 21st-century growth stock, Amazon (AMZN).
\n
For this article, we're going to take it a step further and ask where Amazon stock will be in 10 years, in a nod to the company's remarkable growth. Since the start of the 21st century, Amazon has moved a substantial portion of commerce in the Western world from brick-and-mortar retailers to the internet, and built a massive cloud computing business from scratch. After splitting its stock several times in the late 1990s, Amazon went from about $80 per share in 2000 down to a low of less than $6 in the dot-com bust, to today's price of nearly $3500 per share. To understand where Amazon is going, first, you have to understand how it got to where it is.
\n
Data by YCharts
\n
I would argue that there have been 3 phases in Amazon's history.
\n
\n
The first phase was the dot-com boom and bust. At the time, Amazon was a small company that mostly sold books, music, and videos online. Wall Street got behind the stock, and money started pouring in. Media entrepreneur Henry Blodget, then an analyst for Oppenheimer, famously put a price target that was nearly double what the stock was trading for, only to see the stock surge through his price target in weeks. 2000 rolled around, the Fed pulled the punch bowl, and Amazon stock soon fell over 90 percent. In the first phase, investors clearly got overexcited about the prospects of Amazon and many other internet stocks. Amazon wouldn't take out the old high for nearly a decade, while many other dot-com companies simply disappeared.
\n
The second phase started in 2006 with the introduction of cloud computing. AWS had existed in limited formsince the early 2000s, but the launch of the cloud storage business by Andy Jassy, then a young executive at Amazon, would become a slow-motion home run as data needs for businesses grew exponentially over the next 15 years. By 2012, AWS revenue was over $1.5 billion. In a watershed moment that year, Netflix (NFLX) CEO Reed Hastings announced plans to move 100 percent of Netflix's infrastructure to AWS. By 2015, revenue hit $5 billion, by 2017, it was nearly $18 billion, and last year's revenue was nearly $50 billion and operating profit from AWS accounted fornearly two-thirds of Amazon's total operating profit. AWS drove Amazon's stock price and will continue to be the key driver in the future. As goes AWS, so goes Amazon.
\n
The third phase of Amazon's history is the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen a surge in AMZN's share price. With retailers shut down all over the world, Amazon became a lifeline to consumers battling shortages of goods and stay-at-home restrictions, and during the pandemic, Amazon asserted its position as the world's largest retailer. AWS's profits soared during the pandemic over big prior year comparables as companies increasingly turned to the internet to replace the work they used to do at offices. Since the start of the pandemic, Amazon's stock has nearly doubled.
\n
\n
The question of whether it's too late to buy Amazon can only be answered by evaluating the company's valuation and growth prospects. Amazon is a hard stock to value because it operated at breakeven for many years in its growth phase, but as the company has matured I'm better able to make educated guesses at long-range forecasts for Amazon's prospects. And for Amazon shareholders, the main question now is whether the company can continue to grow earnings at rates close to what it has in the past.
\n
Does Amazon Stock Still Have Room to Grow?
\n
Amazon's share price has risen sharply during the pandemic. There are two schools of thought here.
\n
\n
The first school of thought is that the pandemic has fundamentally reordered the world, giving an advantage to Amazon that it can continue to press. Under this view, Amazon stock is undervalued.
\n
The second school of thought is that the coronavirus pandemic priced in future growth for Amazon and other big companies and that this growth will slow. If this is the case and growth slows sufficiently, the previous advances in Amazon's share price are overdone and future returns will be low.
\n
\n
Amazon trades for63x 2021 earnings and 48x consensus 2022 earnings. This makes the stock very risky if growth comes in below expectations in the future. As you go further out in the future, fewer analysts are willing to publish revenue and profit estimates, but we can get at least 5 sell-side analysts out to 2026, and the numbers until then are impressive. The analyst consensus is for earnings to grow byaround 30 percent annually for the next 5 years!I'm not so sure that growth can be achieved on this scale going forward, although no one knows for sure. The thinking here is that AWS will drive earnings growth, which is very likely to be true. How fast the earnings grow is what will make or break Amazon over the next 5-10 years.
\n
Interestingly, revenue growth is expected to be slower than earnings growth, averaging in the mid-teens. This is a contradiction that is apparently explained by the fact that analysts expect Amazon's profit margins to sequentially improve, which is not a given when your competitors include Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT).
\n
With this in mind, this is how fast AWS revenue has grown over the last decade.
\n
Yearly revenue growth rate, AWS
\n

\n
Source:Statista
\n
As you can see here, AWS revenue growth has slowed over time, but recently ticked up. In addition to revenue, Amazon reports operating profit for AWS but not figures for net income. However, as a whole, Amazon doesn't convert all of its operating income into net income, with the difference going to expenses like depreciation, amortization, and the ~$10 billion in stock options Amazon paid out last year to retain talent. Still, AWS is close to or above thewell-known rule of 40, and every year it stays at or above the rule of 40 Amazon's fundamental value increases. When growth eventually does slow for AWS, Amazon shareholders will be forced to reevaluate how much the stock is worth.
\n
Where Will Amazon Stock Be in 10 Years?
\n
We already know that AWS represents about 2/3rds of Amazon's profit (Amazon is expected to earn $55 EPS in 2021, so I'll assign $36 of that to AWS and $19 to everything else. Amazon doesn't disclose this in their financials so I'm making an educated guess). Let's do some handicapping. Let's say AWS income grows by 25 percent for the next 5 years (i.e. triples in 5 years) and grows 5 percent after, at which point the business is mature. For the rest of Amazon's business, we'll assume it grows at 10 percent for 5 years and 5 percent after.
\n
Under my forecast, AWS income would grow from $36/share to $110/share in 5 years, while other income would grow to $31/share. In sum, I calculate that Amazon would earn $141/share in 2026, which puts my best-guess estimate above the lowest sell-side earnings estimate but below the median estimate (I previously had estimatedEPS of $150 by 2025 the last time I covered Amazon, this update reflects my new modeling - I'm less sunny on AMZN's prospects the more I dig into its financials).
\n
In 2031, assuming 5 percent growth from maturity in 2026, my ballpark estimate for Amazon's earnings is $180 per share. As Amazon's growth slows to earth, I would expect the multiple to shrink a bit, to 28x by 2026, and to 25x by 2031. This gets me a new price target for Amazon of roughly $4000 by 2026 and $4500 by 2031. If you think the multiples will be higher on AMZN stock then add a few hundred dollars to both estimates.
\n
This is indicative of low-to-mid single-digit expected annual returns for Amazon stock. I do indeed think that the law of large numbers will eventually apply to Amazon and that their revenue growth won't continue like this forever. After all, we just came out of a pandemic, which was one of the best possible macro events that could happen to Amazon. Extrapolating future growth for work-from-home stocks when their products were influenced by pandemic demand and government restrictions is not going to match future reality in many cases.
\n
When you model Amazon's earnings, the future price estimates are very sensitive to the growth rate, which cuts both ways. If Amazon grows earnings faster for several years, the stock will appreciate correspondingly, maybe to $5000 or higher, but if growth slows, the 48x multiple will slowly bleed away, as has happened to thousands of tech companies in the past, and as happened to Amazon itself from 2000 to 2008. Obviously, the stock returns are very sensitive to the growth rate, if Amazon grows earnings to $300 per share like the high analyst estimate suggests by 2026 and then grows from there, then AMZN is easily a $7000+ stock. However, in my view, this would require implausibly high growth rates.
\n
I believe that when analysts hang these very high earnings numbers far out in the future that they're biased by what has happened in the past. Analysts underestimated AWS before, but now everyone is talking about AWS, which makes me think that they might be too excited about WFH plays just the same way people were overexcited about sections of tech in 2000. I would not, under any circumstances expect that companies that grew 30+ percent during COVID should continue to do so in the future unless proven otherwise.
\n
Amazon's valuation is high in part because it's one of the biggest holdings of the NASDAQ, which gets index money irrespective of whether the companies can continue to grow. Based on fundamentals, I expect several of the top NASDAQ holdings to see negative returns going forward, while others are likely to see low but positive returns. That is how tech investing works, by the way, your winners cover your losers. In Amazon's case, I see a lot of plausible ways it can go down and fewer ways it can go up. This is almost entirely due to the price change between the start of the pandemic and now.
\n
Risks to Amazon Stock
\n
\n
Amazon is somewhat unusual forcapping salaries at $160kand paying the rest in restricted stock, which made some of its employees very rich, but partially at the expense of others who quit or were fired before their stock vests. The salary figures are significantly lower than other tech companies, while the stock component is higher. The turnover at Amazon appears to be dramatically higher than competitors like Google, which is known for having a gentler culture than Amazon. The business risk here is that since so much compensation is in stock and Amazon's corporate culture is so cutthroat, a falling share price could create a vicious cycle where talent leaves, leading to worse business performance, which then reinforces the cycle. The rising stock price led many employees and executives to tolerate the brutal culture at Amazon in the past, but if the stock does not continue to rise then Amazon could quickly have problems attracting and retaining talent. I've seen this happen before to companies in tech and finance, and it's not pretty when the negative feedback loop gets rolling. It's not something that is guaranteed to happen, but it is a risk I would consider.
\n
Antitrust could very possibly be an issue for Amazon. Amazon is facing anantitrust lawsuit in DCover the so-called most favored nation clause in its contract with third-party sellers. The Democratic House of Representatives antitrust subcommittee has Amazon inits crosshairs as well. Amazon is likely to argue that their business dominance is because they've reduced prices for consumers, but the real antitrust threat, in the long run, is that AWS will be broken up. When Amazon decided to block Parler from using AWS hosting, it made a decision that is likely to cause Republicans to take legal action against them in the future if they regain control of the White House. This is within the 10-year period that this article covers, and memories can be quite long in politics. Even without the Parler issue, Amazon's leadership is excessively involved in politics compared to competitors, which creates downside risk for shareholders. Politicians don't have to cause Amazon losses to cause pain for shareholders, because the valuation is so high, all they have to do is slow down the growth rate. The Federal government did not succeed inits bid to break up Microsoft in 2001, but Microsoft's share performance during the early 2000s was dismal.
\n
Competition is another risk that comes to mind. Amazon currently has a dominant market position, but as you read this, people at Microsoft and Google are looking for ways to cut into Amazon's market share. Amazon is \"king of the hill,\" but in tech, there are plenty of companies that had high valuations in 2000 and aren't kings anymore. This is Amazon's first time on top of the NASDAQ, and while Amazon's foresight got them to the top, I question whether they will necessarily be able to stay there. There are different skill sets required to get to the top and stay there, and the level of turnover at Amazon may make the next phase of their growth more challenging than it would be otherwise.
\n
\n
Conclusion
\n
High-growth stocks like Amazon are notoriously hard to value. Analysts continually underestimated AWS, which drove Amazon stock to where it is today. Now, based on revenue growth trends and back-of-the-envelope calculations it looks to me like they're overestimating it, given increased competition and industry maturity. This is classic Wall Street, for analysts to initially underestimate a trend and then hop on the train only to overestimate it.
\n
There's an old joke that if you add up all of the management market share projections in any industry they'll add up to well over 100 percent, and I think the same is true for cloud computing stocks at the moment. Next up is the quintessential 21st-century growth stock, Amazon (AMZN).\nFor this article, we're going to take it a step further and ask where Amazon stock will be in 10 years, in a nod to the company's remarkable growth. To understand where Amazon is going, first, you have to understand how it got to where it is.\nData by YCharts\nI would argue that there have been 3 phases in Amazon's history.\n\nThe first phase was the dot-com boom and bust. Amazon wouldn't take out the old high for nearly a decade, while many other dot-com companies simply disappeared.\nThe second phase started in 2006 with the introduction of cloud computing. As goes AWS, so goes Amazon.\nThe third phase of Amazon's history is the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen a surge in AMZN's share price. Since the start of the pandemic, Amazon's stock has nearly doubled.\n\nThe question of whether it's too late to buy Amazon can only be answered by evaluating the company's valuation and growth prospects. Amazon is a hard stock to value because it operated at breakeven for many years in its growth phase, but as the company has matured I'm better able to make educated guesses at long-range forecasts for Amazon's prospects. And for Amazon shareholders, the main question now is whether the company can continue to grow earnings at rates close to what it has in the past.\nDoes Amazon Stock Still Have Room to Grow?\nAmazon's share price has risen sharply during the pandemic. There are two schools of thought here.\n\nThe first school of thought is that the pandemic has fundamentally reordered the world, giving an advantage to Amazon that it can continue to press. Under this view, Amazon stock is undervalued.\nThe second school of thought is that the coronavirus pandemic priced in future growth for Amazon and other big companies and that this growth will slow. If this is the case and growth slows sufficiently, the previous advances in Amazon's share price are overdone and future returns will be low.\n\nAmazon trades for63x 2021 earnings and 48x consensus 2022 earnings. How fast the earnings grow is what will make or break Amazon over the next 5-10 years.\nInterestingly, revenue growth is expected to be slower than earnings growth, averaging in the mid-teens. This is a contradiction that is apparently explained by the fact that analysts expect Amazon's profit margins to sequentially improve, which is not a given when your competitors include Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT).\nWith this in mind, this is how fast AWS revenue has grown over the last decade.\nYearly revenue growth rate, AWS\n\nSource:Statista\nAs you can see here, AWS revenue growth has slowed over time, but recently ticked up. When growth eventually does slow for AWS, Amazon shareholders will be forced to reevaluate how much the stock is worth.\nWhere Will Amazon Stock Be in 10 Years?\nWe already know that AWS represents about 2/3rds of Amazon's profit (Amazon is expected to earn $55 EPS in 2021, so I'll assign $36 of that to AWS and $19 to everything else. Amazon doesn't disclose this in their financials so I'm making an educated guess). Let's do some handicapping. Let's say AWS income grows by 25 percent for the next 5 years (i.e. triples in 5 years) and grows 5 percent after, at which point the business is mature. For the rest of Amazon's business, we'll assume it grows at 10 percent for 5 years and 5 percent after.\nUnder my forecast, AWS income would grow from $36/share to $110/share in 5 years, while other income would grow to $31/share. In sum, I calculate that Amazon would earn $141/share in 2026, which puts my best-guess estimate above the lowest sell-side earnings estimate but below the median estimate (I previously had estimatedEPS of $150 by 2025 the last time I covered Amazon, this update reflects my new modeling - I'm less sunny on AMZN's prospects the more I dig into its financials).\nIn 2031, assuming 5 percent growth from maturity in 2026, my ballpark estimate for Amazon's earnings is $180 per share. As Amazon's growth slows to earth, I would expect the multiple to shrink a bit, to 28x by 2026, and to 25x by 2031. This gets me a new price target for Amazon of roughly $4000 by 2026 and $4500 by 2031. If you think the multiples will be higher on AMZN stock then add a few hundred dollars to both estimates.\nThis is indicative of low-to-mid single-digit expected annual returns for Amazon stock. I do indeed think that the law of large numbers will eventually apply to Amazon and that their revenue growth won't continue like this forever. After all, we just came out of a pandemic, which was one of the best possible macro events that could happen to Amazon. Extrapolating future growth for work-from-home stocks when their products were influenced by pandemic demand and government restrictions is not going to match future reality in many cases.\nWhen you model Amazon's earnings, the future price estimates are very sensitive to the growth rate, which cuts both ways. However, in my view, this would require implausibly high growth rates.\nI believe that when analysts hang these very high earnings numbers far out in the future that they're biased by what has happened in the past. Analysts underestimated AWS before, but now everyone is talking about AWS, which makes me think that they might be too excited about WFH plays just the same way people were overexcited about sections of tech in 2000. I would not, under any circumstances expect that companies that grew 30+ percent during COVID should continue to do so in the future unless proven otherwise.\nAmazon's valuation is high in part because it's one of the biggest holdings of the NASDAQ, which gets index money irrespective of whether the companies can continue to grow. This is almost entirely due to the price change between the start of the pandemic and now.\nRisks to Amazon Stock\n\nAmazon is somewhat unusual forcapping salaries at $160kand paying the rest in restricted stock, which made some of its employees very rich, but partially at the expense of others who quit or were fired before their stock vests. It's not something that is guaranteed to happen, but it is a risk I would consider.\nAntitrust could very possibly be an issue for Amazon. The Federal government did not succeed inits bid to break up Microsoft in 2001, but Microsoft's share performance during the early 2000s was dismal.\nCompetition is another risk that comes to mind. There are different skill sets required to get to the top and stay there, and the level of turnover at Amazon may make the next phase of their growth more challenging than it would be otherwise.\n\nConclusion\nHigh-growth stocks like Amazon are notoriously hard to value. Analysts continually underestimated AWS, which drove Amazon stock to where it is today. Now, based on revenue growth trends and back-of-the-envelope calculations it looks to me like they're overestimating it, given increased competition and industry maturity. This is classic Wall Street, for analysts to initially underestimate a trend and then hop on the train only to overestimate it.\nThere's an old joke that if you add up all of the management market share projections in any industry they'll add up to well over 100 percent, and I think the same is true for cloud computing stocks at the moment. While I expect Amazon will grow into its valuation and at least have some positive return for shareholders, I don't expect much upside from the stock, and there are risks to the downside related to competition, antitrust, and valuation.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":367,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167244401,"gmtCreate":1624273896003,"gmtModify":1703832119218,"author":{"id":"3582162404483861","authorId":"3582162404483861","name":"Deniseee","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582162404483861","authorIdStr":"3582162404483861"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice!","listText":"Nice!","text":"Nice!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/167244401","repostId":"1169140387","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1169140387","pubTimestamp":1624270145,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1169140387?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-21 18:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Goldman believes these quality stocks are cheap","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169140387","media":"CNBC","summary":"The value vs. growth debate has dominated investor attention this year, but the best route may just ","content":"
\n
The value vs. growth debate has dominated investor attention this year, but the best route may just be to find quality companies selling at a relative discount, according to Goldman Sachs.\nThe Wall ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The first list of stocks are equities with a combination of strong productivity and efficacy of spending. The second screen are stocks that center around earnings quality, measured by consistent free cash flow.\nGoldman then added a valuation overlay to both these screens. Take a look at the lists of stocks here.\nAsset productivity\nThis list of stocks are buy-rated names that offer a combination of strong and improving gross profitability, solid cash returns on cash invested and fair valuations.\n“We look for companies that despite the pandemic-related headwinds, maintained their Gross Profits/Total Assets in the top half of their respective sectors (Quartile 1 or 2) throughout 2019-2022E, and are set to expand/stay stable in 2022E vs. 2019 on our analysts’ estimates,” said Mehta.\nAll the listed stocks have improving gross profit as a percent of total assets, improving cash return on capital invested and attractive valuations compared to history.\n\nDeere & Co.,Lowe’s,Advanced Micro Devices,Boston Beer and Procter & Gamble all make Goldman’s first quality screen.\n“New ag equipment share of capex is in the early stages of recovering off trough following a sharp destock in used ag equipment inventory,” said Goldman equity analyst Jerry Revich.\nGoldman equity analyst Kate McShane said she is looking for Lowe’s’ margins to expand as the company manages costs and increases productivity.\n“Traffic and ticket growth have been consistently strong throughout the pandemic and continued successful initiatives with the ‘Pro’ customers should increase the likelihood of market share gains,” said McShane.\nImproving free cash flow\nThe next screen includes stocks that have a good track record of free cash flow conversion, plus attractive and growing free cash flow yields, said Goldman.\n“We view companies with the ability to convert accounting net earnings into Free Cash Flow (FCF) cash as well positioned. While investors typically look to net income to gauge a company’s profitability, it is ultimately FCF generation, that underpins an effective capital allocation policy in our view,” said Mehta.\nAll the buy-rated stocks also have free cash flow yield above 5%, that is expected to improve year-over-year.\n\nKBR Inc, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Philip Morris International, Cisco Systems and Darden Restaurants all made Goldman’s free cash flow screen.\n“Strong growth trajectory ahead from rising global hydrogen infrastructure investment and favorable capital deployment,” Goldman equity analyst Jerry Revich told clients about KBR. “Management’s $4-6 EPS target for 2025 seems achievable with strong organic growth in government solutions and a solid booking run-way across Advisory, Ammonia and catalyst.”\nGoldman analyst Matthew O’Neill said Cognizant’s strong balance sheet strength and robust free cash flow generation is also likely to provide capacity to supplement growth with M&A.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":315,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167241499,"gmtCreate":1624273521511,"gmtModify":1703832112353,"author":{"id":"3582162404483861","authorId":"3582162404483861","name":"Deniseee","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582162404483861","authorIdStr":"3582162404483861"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/167241499","repostId":"1184501396","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":138,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166202147,"gmtCreate":1624009539089,"gmtModify":1703826458952,"author":{"id":"3582162404483861","authorId":"3582162404483861","name":"Deniseee","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582162404483861","authorIdStr":"3582162404483861"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/166202147","repostId":"1175693382","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":169,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168391240,"gmtCreate":1623949062880,"gmtModify":1703824522789,"author":{"id":"3582162404483861","authorId":"3582162404483861","name":"Deniseee","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582162404483861","authorIdStr":"3582162404483861"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment","listText":"Like and comment","text":"Like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/168391240","repostId":"2144742672","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144742672","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1623943500,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2144742672?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-17 23:25","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Facebook launches ads globally for Instagram Reels","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144742672","media":"Reuters","summary":"June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the ","content":"
June 17 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is launching ads globally on its TikTok clone Instagram Reels, the company said on Thursday.
\n
The social media company, which is aiming to make money from its short-form video feature, began testing Instagram Reels ads in India, Brazil, Germany and Australia in April. Investors are now uncertain when the biotech could have an approved product to sell, and pushed the stock 44.4% lower as of 12:12 p.m. EDT on last Friday.\nSo what\nThe FDA began reviewing an application for Orphazyme's lead candidate arimoclomol last September as a potential treatment for a rare but life-threatening disease called Neimann-Pick Disease Type-C (NPC). Earlier this month, shares of Orphazymeshot upmore than 200% in anticipation of a green light that never came.\nInstead of an approval decision for arimoclomol, the agency asked for more information in the form of a complete response letter (CRL). That came as a shock to heaps of investors who were new to the complex world of drug development and were expecting a massiveshort squeeze.\nMany institutional investors were betting against Orphazyme because its lead candidate failed to achieve the primary endpoint in the pivotal study underpinning the application. Arimoclomol also failed to improve patients' scores on a secondary endpoint specifically requested by the FDA.\nNow what\nAccording to Orphazyme, the company needs to further substantiate the validity of the primary endpoint that arimoclomol almost achieved. To satisfy the FDA, the company will most likely have to run a new pivotal study.\nSome shareholders remain hopeful that the European Medicines Agency will be less strict than the FDA. While the FDA's European colleague has been more lenient regarding treatments for rare diseases in the past, arimoclomol probably isn't moving forward until it produces some convincing clinical-trial results.\nDespite lacking a clear path forward, the Denmark-headquartered company still boasts a fairly large market cap in excess of $500 million at recent prices. That is, at least, according to a new report from financial advisory firm Betterment.
\n
About 97% of those in a recent survey conducted by the digital investment advisor, who said that they had invested in stocks driven primarily by social-media mentions rather than fundamentals would continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
\n
Such meme investing trends have been the main drivers behind purchases of companies like bricks-and-mortar videogame retailer GameStop Corp ., movie chain AMC Entertainment Holdings and BlackBerry Ltd. ,who made a ubiquitous cellphone that was all the rage in the 1990s and early 2000s.
\n
Stocks and crypto like dogecoin, that aren’t necessarily offering compelling use-cases, or earnings, are rising on the dint of the collective might of retail investors gathering on sites like Reddit and Discord. It’s a trend that has long been viewed as doomed to implode at some point, but individual investors surveyed by Betterment between late April and early May, who invested in meme stocks before say that they will continue to be investors in that category of investing.
\n
According to the Betterment survey, “there is a near-universal consensus that they will continue investing in stocks like these that get a lot of attention in the future -97% said they’re at least somewhat likely to invest,”
\n
That is even as the outlook for GameStop, AMC and its ilk look uncertain.
\n
Betterment’s survey included a panel of 1,500 respondents from April 26 to May 3, who were 18 years and older and have any kind of investment (excluded if only 401(k)). Think again. That is, at least, according to a new report from financial advisory firm Betterment.\nAbout 97% of those in a recent survey conducted by the digital investment advisor, who said that they had invested in stocks driven primarily by social-media mentions rather than fundamentals would continue to do so in the foreseeable future.\nSuch meme investing trends have been the main drivers behind purchases of companies like bricks-and-mortar videogame retailer GameStop Corp ., movie chain AMC Entertainment Holdings and BlackBerry Ltd. ,who made a ubiquitous cellphone that was all the rage in the 1990s and early 2000s.\nStocks and crypto like dogecoin, that aren’t necessarily offering compelling use-cases, or earnings, are rising on the dint of the collective might of retail investors gathering on sites like Reddit and Discord. It’s a trend that has long been viewed as doomed to implode at some point, but individual investors surveyed by Betterment between late April and early May, who invested in meme stocks before say that they will continue to be investors in that category of investing.\nAccording to the Betterment survey, “there is a near-universal consensus that they will continue investing in stocks like these that get a lot of attention in the future -97% said they’re at least somewhat likely to invest,”\nThat is even as the outlook for GameStop, AMC and its ilk look uncertain.\nBetterment’s survey included a panel of 1,500 respondents from April 26 to May 3, who were 18 years and older and have any kind of investment (excluded if only 401(k)). Of the total, half of them actively day traded their investments.\nAll that said, most of the respondents in the research survey indicated that they had some understanding of meme investments while nearly a quarter, 24%, said they didn’t understand it well at all.\nInvestments like GameStop have captured the imagination of young investors because of the stratospheric gains it has seen.\nFor example, shares of GamStop are up 1,054% on the year and those for AMC have risen more than 2,500%, while dogecoin is up nearly 5,000% in the year to date.\nBy comparison, more traditional assets have seen more muted, although strong gains.
