My investment thesis is Bearish with the stock pressing towards all-time highs at $150 while business growth is decelerating.
\n
Source:FinViz
\n
Recency Bias
\n
One of the biggest mistakes made in the stock market is recency bias. An investor will naturally overweight the recent results of a business in deriving the correct current valuation for an equity.
\n
The current stock price is a prime example for Apple. The tech. giant has a huge history of growing over time, but Apple has also had a couple of periods in the last decade where revenues declined.
\n
The recent accelerated growth and shift to recurring services shouldn't alter one's view that Apple is still product-focused and will constantly run into down cycles. Investors must consider these likely outcomes when valuing the stock, but the current valuation is based on a recency bias of elevated growth in the last year.
\n
Data byYCharts
\n
Even after another sterling quarter, analyst estimates are still forecasting a period of up to 4 years where Apple doesn't generate revenue growth in excess of 6%. The company admitted that Services revenue won't repeat the 33% growth in the June quarter and these tough comps are problematic for growth in future periods. Investors should easily understand that any growth after reporting a year with 33% growth is impressive, but some post covid slowdowns shouldn't be surprising.
\n
Right now though, Apple is still priced for excessive growth. A lot of the stock price gains in the last few years are attributed all to expanding P/E multiples. One only has to go back to 2016 for when Apple only traded at 10x trailing earnings. The stock now trades at nearly 30x trailing earnings, or nearly 3x the multiple from just 5 years ago.
\n
Data byYCharts
\n
If Apple only traded at 15x trailing earnings, the stock would trade closer to $75, not $150. For this reason, the stock has struggled to break above $150 for a while now.
\n
While the market forecasts 3% revenue growth for FY22, Citi analyst Wamsi Mohanmade it clearreal risk exists for Apple to actually report revenue and gross profit dollars down YoY in the first 3 quarters of the fiscal year:
\n
\n Apple could be faced with the dual headwinds of tougher comps and weaker demand in Hardware only modestly offset by any Services re-acceleration. Revenue growth for F4Q was guided lower than the 36% y/y growth in F3Q, but the upcoming Dec, March and now even June quarters could be down y/y in revs and gross profit dollars given several headwinds.\n
\n
iPhone 5G Cycle
\n
History tells us that Apple regularly has these product cycles and covid lockdowns should accelerate the likelihood of a future quarter with trough numbers. In addition, the 5G iPhone cycle should advance these normal cycles with sales pushed from the normal quarter into the December quarter last year. Normal sales for the iPhone 13 in the September quarter will accelerate the tough comps in the December quarter and on into FY22.
\n
TheCounterpoint chart highlights how the iPhone 12/5G cycle has elevated sales to a level where Apple faces tough comps in FY22. Not only were FQ1'21 sales elevated, but the FQ2'21/FQ3'21 units sold were far in excess of the prior two years.
\n
No real explanation exists for higher sales other than covid demand pulled forward and the 5G cycle. Even normal market growth wouldn't lead to unit sales surging somewhere in the 50% range for the March and June quarters from prior-year levels.
\n
Investors really have to question whether Apple can sell over 60 million units again in the March quarter and another 50 million units in the June quarter. Even selling iPhones at higher ASPs might not be enough to offset some declines in units sold.
\n
The crazy part here is that historical norms support Apple reporting some tough comps in the next year and going on to substantial growth in the next decade. The company has Services revenues up to $17.5 billion in quarterly sales accounting for some 21% of sales for the first 9 months of FY21.
\n
Apple is poised to roll these recurring revenues into more consistent growth, but the growth rates will be as annual revenues top $400 billion. Without the recency bias of the last year, investors would understand this concept and appropriately value the stock at a more normal valuation of ~15x future earnings.
\n
If the tech giant earns $5.92 in even FY23, the stock would only trade at $89 using a 15x multiple. Remember, one would normally question whether Apple even deserves a 15x forward multiple when earnings are only forecast to grow at a 5% clip in FY23. A stock usually struggles to trade at forward P/E multiples of 2x the growth rate, not 3x the growth rate.
\n
Takeaway
\n
The key investor takeaway is that investors should clearly understand why Apple is struggling to push beyond $150. The stock is already insanely expensive for the normalized growth rates going forward and the real risk that the tech giant actually reports a few quarters where revenues decline.
\n
Investors should be selling Apple at $150, not looking to buy even more shares at a price where the annualized returns should be weak.
","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple: The $150 Struggle Is Real
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nApple: The $150 Struggle Is Real\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-24 11:43 GMT+8 seekingalpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Summary\n\nApple is struggling to push past a ceiling on the stock at $150.\n5G iPhone units sold in FY21 so far make for a high hurdle in FY22.\nThe stock trades at an insanely 27x FY22 EPS estimates ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4451389-apple-the-150-struggle-is-real","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5a36db9d73b4222bc376d24ccc48c8a4","article_id":"1104413070","content_text":"Summary\n\nApple is struggling to push past a ceiling on the stock at $150.\n5G iPhone units sold in FY21 so far make for a high hurdle in FY22.\nThe stock trades at an insanely 27x FY22 EPS estimates with minimal growth rates going forward.\nLooking for a helping hand in the market? Now a year later, some of those companies’ second-quarterearnings are expected to double, triple or even jump fivefoldfrom Q2, 2020.\nOn top of that, analysts say earnings forecast revisions may have been too conservative, and cyclical and value names could benefit from big surprises. They are also the group of stocks that can be winners from inflation, since they have been able to pass on rising input costs to customers in the form of price increases.\n“We do think this is a time that cyclicals could respond more positively,” said Julian Emanuel, head of equity and derivatives strategy at BTIG.\nAfter outpacing growth and tech when Treasury yields were rising earlier in the year, some cyclical sectors are actually negative in the last month while technology stocks have zoomed ahead by nearly 7%. For the year, tech has gained 17.3%, now surpassing materials, up 13.4% and industrials up 15.7%. Cyclical financials are up 23.7% for the year, and energy holds a 34.4% gain.\n“It’s the combination of what we think is going to be a bottoming in yields based on the inflation data, and the whole idea that you had an entire group of cyclically oriented companies have their earnings revised upward in the second quarter and have stock prices with no reaction, or traded off because they got swamped in the noise of the bond market,” said Emanuel.\nEmanuel said the stocks he highlighted going into earnings seasons included deep cyclicals.Citigroup,Caterpillar,DeereandDowwere on a list of stocks whose share prices have lagged since the start of the second quarter, but had earnings estimate revisions since March 31 in the top 20% of the S&P 500.\nDuring the second quarter, the widely watched benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell from its March high of 1.77%. It was at about 1.33% Thursday, above the 1.25% hit last week. The yield moves opposite price, and many market pros had anticipated yields to rise as inflation readings got hotter and hotter this summer.\nTechnology and other growth stocks are particularly vulnerable to higher yields and inflation concerns. Even so, technology has been the best performing major sector this week, even as June’s consumer price index showed consumer inflation rising at an annual pace of 5.4%.\nTech and growth are viewed as longer-duration holdings that will pay off in the future. Higher yieldsreduce the value of future cash flows.\nIf investors shift their sights again to cyclicals, all cyclical groups may not benefit equally, but materials is one sector where there could be a pop.\n“Even with the rollover in commodities prices from the top, the profitability of those companies is near record highs and margins will be at all-time highs,” said Adam Parker, founder of Trivariate Research. “You still have a generally good fundamental setup and you have a lot of profitability.”\nParker notes that some companies have had massive earnings revisions. Louisiana Pacific, for instance, was expected to earn $3.36 per share this year at the start of the year, but that has since moved up to an estimate of $12.40 per share.\nSimilar, the estimate for Steel Dynamics was $3.12 per share for 2021, but it is now at $12.94 per share.\n“They’re generating massive cash flow. I think they’re going to improve their balance sheet pretty meaningfully this cycle. I definitely like energy and materials. That’s the way to play inflation,” Parker said.\nParker identified stocks in the top 5% in terms of forecasted earnings expansion and in the top 5% of S&P 500 companies with forecasted multiple contraction, meaning simply that their price-to-earnings ration shrank and stocks look cheap compared with earnings.\nSome of these stocks includeOlin, Micron Technologies,Alcoa,ExxonMobil,Western DigitalandLyondellBasell Industries.Mosaic,Darden RestaurantsandDiscover Financialwere also on the list.\nParker notes that materials and retailers on average seem to have lower expectations and therefore have more potential to outperform earnings targets.\n“I’m pretty optimistic on the market,” he said. “I really like energy and materials. I think generally that analysts haven’t taken their numbers up enough, and there’s some margin expansion there. I’m massively bullish on energy.”\nIn his second half outlook, Parker noted that oil prices were up 10% in June, and rising oil means higher earnings revisions and higher net income.\n“Earnings revisions are highly effective at picking winners from losers within the cohort for the 6-months following periods when oil is rising, meaning energy stocks beating estimates will likely perform strongly,” he wrote in the outlook. “Additionally, despite the strong rally, the sector is quite cheap versus history on price-to-book, which was the most efficacious valuation metric for picking energy stocks historically.”\nParker added that oil prices have been a leading indicator for net income of the energy sector. The change in the price of West Texas Intermediate crude has typically been a three- to six-month leading indicator for reported net income of oil companies, he noted.\nRegarding the cyclicals, Parker is cautious on rate-sensitive banks, which have gotten pricier. He said for banks, net interest margins may not expand as much during the quarter as expected by managements when rates were higher in April.\nBut Emanuel said he expects the bank stocks, which have been lackluster after earnings reports this week, to do better as the earnings period goes on.\n“Financials are very strange. If you go back even pre-pandemic, the financials have the habit of not responding in the immediate aftermath of earnings. In a way that is counterintuitive to what the reports say and what happens is we see time and again, the market reassesses their initial reaction,” he said. “We think it’s going to be the exact same thing this time.”\nSome inflation is obviously a positive for earnings, but it may not be if it becomes persistent.\n“If anything could derail the equities market, it will be wage and input cost inflation that offsets revenue growth and pinches margins,” Parker said.\nFor now, he doesn’t see a problem, and he’s bullish. “Earnings are good. The economy is good. The Fed is helping out and there’s fiscal stimulus,” he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":677,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":141608621,"gmtCreate":1625853727263,"gmtModify":1703749957294,"author":{"id":"3582353279827680","authorId":"3582353279827680","name":"Alvinsan","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/006c81af2016000c087df98332ef2fff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582353279827680","authorIdStr":"3582353279827680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"What comment you want","listText":"What comment you want","text":"What comment you want","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/141608621","repostId":"1155625151","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1155625151","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625845018,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1155625151?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-09 23:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Long-Term Prospects for Both Space Tourism and SPCE Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1155625151","media":"investorplace","summary":"Virgin Galactic(NYSE:SPCE) stock bucked the broader market selloff today, as SPCE stock surged rough","content":"
Virgin Galactic(NYSE:SPCE) stock bucked the broader market selloff today, as SPCE stock surged roughly 20% on a day when most of Wall Street bled red. Nio stock reversed lower.","content":"
Nio plans a vast expansion of EV battery swapping stations as competition with Tesla heats up. Nio stock opened higher but reversed lower.
\n
The Chinese EV startup plans to add at least 3,700 battery-swap stations for electric vehicles by 2025 after building around 300 so far, it said at an inaugural Power Day event Friday. Around 1,000 of the total will be installed outside of China, Bloomberg said. Nio's expanding in Norway, where Tesla dominates.
\n
Nio sees battery swapping as a key differentiator. Tesla, the luxury EV leader in China that Nio's taking on, relies on fast-charging stations for EV recharging. Tesla ditched battery swap technology years ago.
\n
At the same time, Nio announced it will build more charging stations after selling around 120,000 EVs since deliveries first began in June 2018. Tesla has 850 Supercharger stations in China.
\n
At battery swap stations, Nio's customers can rapidly get their battery exchanged for a fresh one rather than a long wait to recharge their electric vehicle. Last October, Nio announced its millionth battery swap.
\n
In June, Nio's EV sales in China rose 20% month over month while Tesla's June sales in the country fell month over month. And Nio more than doubled June sales year over year.
\n
EV sales at Nio are fueled by its popular and innovative \"battery as a service\" program, whereby customers buy the car and lease the battery for cost savings. But Tesla isn't sitting idle.
\n
On Thursday, Tesla debuted a version of its made-in-Shanghai Model Y that is cheaper after government subsidies than its direct competitor, Nio's ES6 SUV.
\n
Nio Stock, EV Stocks
\n
Shares of Nio fell 1.8% to 44.76 on the stock market today, after initially popping to 47.01 soon after the open. Shorting a stock without looking at the fundamentals of the business means you're simply gambling, not investing.
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) just dealt hedge funds and other short-sellers a decisive blow when it reported fiscal first-quarter results that were significantly better than expected. Because the home goods retailer is one of those meme stocks that actually still has a future, the foolish bet was to think its business is still tanking. Bed Bath & Beyond just showed those betting against its business just how wrong they were.
\n
\n
Fast and furious
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond reported net sales of $1.95 billion for the first quarter of 2021, a 49% gain over last year and handily outstripping the $1.87 billion Wall Street was expecting. It's the fourth consecutive quarter the retailer enjoyed higher sales, indicating its vaunted turnaround strategy is on track.
\n
While the home goods outlet did miss analyst forecasts on earnings, posting adjusted profits of $0.05 per share, $0.03 less than predicted, it now sees comparable-store sales for the rest of the year being stronger than thought. Management raised guidance for comps to low single-digit-percentage growth compared to its prior outlook for flat comps.
\n
It also raised its full-year net sales guidance to a range of $8.2 billion to $8.4 billion from $8 billion to $8.2 billion. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) are also now forecast to be higher, too, from $520 million to $540 million, up from $500 million to $525 million. For the first time since the pandemic, it offered adjusted profit guidance of $1.40 to $1.55 per share.
\n
A banner quarter
\n
There's a reason Bed Bath & Beyond did so well: It's sticking to what it knows best. The retailer has jettisoned all of its tacked-on businesses and is instead focusing on its best, core opportunities.
\n
The retailer considers its namesake Bed Bath & Beyond stores, buybuy BABY, Harmon Face Values, and Decorist to be its core. Net sales at the quartet of chains were up 73% for the period, but the Bed Bath & Beyond banner was really the star, with revenue nearly doubling.
\n
Obviously it is going up against very easy comparables from last year when its stores were largely closed for the quarter, but before the pandemic hit, it was still questionable as to whether consumers would respond to the turnaround strategy. The company had only just cleaned house in the c-suite and was just launching a drive to return its business to growth when the COVID-19 outbreak struck, putting its plans on hold.
\n
The four consecutive quarters of growing sales seems to indicate it's working, and betting against the home goods giant was a poor decision.
\n
Holding the bag
\n
It seems a number of short-sellers did see the writing on the wall and closed out their positions recently. The number of shares sold short fell from a peak of 33.3 million shares as of May 28, more than were even sold short during the height of the meme stock frenzy in January, to 20.4 million shares in mid-June.
\n
That equates to almost 20% of Bed Bath & Beyond's float being sold short, still a significant percentage, even if it is 38% below what it had been two weeks prior.
\n
Yet short-sellers have not fared well against the retail investor army that seeks to defend such beaten-down stocks. While those defenders hold a number of misconceptions about exactly what they're doing, they've still trounced the shorts.
\n
The short story
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond's stock is up almost 7% over the past month and 68% higher year to date. Over the last 12 months, shares of the retailer have rallied to gains of 176%. That's likely part of the reason Bed Bath & Beyond's short interest has dropped as it has, though if some investors looked at the prospects for its continued success they might have gotten out even sooner.
\n
The retail industry is still in a tough spot, and Bed Bath & Beyond is not out of the woods, either. Yet it's clearly on the road to recovery, and that will undoubtedly have investors cheering and the short-sellers licking their wounds.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
This Meme Stock Just Proved the Short-Sellers Wrong
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThis Meme Stock Just Proved the Short-Sellers Wrong\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-01 23:27 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Just as buying a stock simply because hedge funds are betting against it by shorting its shares is a foolish investment strategy, the opposite is true, too. Bed Bath & Beyond just showed those betting against its business just how wrong they were.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nFast and furious\nBed Bath & Beyond reported net sales of $1.95 billion for the first quarter of 2021, a 49% gain over last year and handily outstripping the $1.87 billion Wall Street was expecting. It's the fourth consecutive quarter the retailer enjoyed higher sales, indicating its vaunted turnaround strategy is on track.\nWhile the home goods outlet did miss analyst forecasts on earnings, posting adjusted profits of $0.05 per share, $0.03 less than predicted, it now sees comparable-store sales for the rest of the year being stronger than thought. Management raised guidance for comps to low single-digit-percentage growth compared to its prior outlook for flat comps.\nIt also raised its full-year net sales guidance to a range of $8.2 billion to $8.4 billion from $8 billion to $8.2 billion. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) are also now forecast to be higher, too, from $520 million to $540 million, up from $500 million to $525 million. For the first time since the pandemic, it offered adjusted profit guidance of $1.40 to $1.55 per share.\nA banner quarter\nThere's a reason Bed Bath & Beyond did so well: It's sticking to what it knows best. The retailer has jettisoned all of its tacked-on businesses and is instead focusing on its best, core opportunities.\nThe retailer considers its namesake Bed Bath & Beyond stores, buybuy BABY, Harmon Face Values, and Decorist to be its core. Net sales at the quartet of chains were up 73% for the period, but the Bed Bath & Beyond banner was really the star, with revenue nearly doubling.\nObviously it is going up against very easy comparables from last year when its stores were largely closed for the quarter, but before the pandemic hit, it was still questionable as to whether consumers would respond to the turnaround strategy. The company had only just cleaned house in the c-suite and was just launching a drive to return its business to growth when the COVID-19 outbreak struck, putting its plans on hold.\nThe four consecutive quarters of growing sales seems to indicate it's working, and betting against the home goods giant was a poor decision.\nHolding the bag\nIt seems a number of short-sellers did see the writing on the wall and closed out their positions recently. The number of shares sold short fell from a peak of 33.3 million shares as of May 28, more than were even sold short during the height of the meme stock frenzy in January, to 20.4 million shares in mid-June.\nThat equates to almost 20% of Bed Bath & Beyond's float being sold short, still a significant percentage, even if it is 38% below what it had been two weeks prior.\nYet short-sellers have not fared well against the retail investor army that seeks to defend such beaten-down stocks. While those defenders hold a number of misconceptions about exactly what they're doing, they've still trounced the shorts.\nThe short story\nBed Bath & Beyond's stock is up almost 7% over the past month and 68% higher year to date. Over the last 12 months, shares of the retailer have rallied to gains of 176%. That's likely part of the reason Bed Bath & Beyond's short interest has dropped as it has, though if some investors looked at the prospects for its continued success they might have gotten out even sooner.\nThe retail industry is still in a tough spot, and Bed Bath & Beyond is not out of the woods, either. Yet it's clearly on the road to recovery, and that will undoubtedly have investors cheering and the short-sellers licking their wounds.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":585,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":151709194,"gmtCreate":1625105034918,"gmtModify":1703736226980,"author":{"id":"3582353279827680","authorId":"3582353279827680","name":"Alvinsan","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/006c81af2016000c087df98332ef2fff","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582353279827680","authorIdStr":"3582353279827680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Everything expensive but salary low low low lol","listText":"Everything expensive but salary low low low lol","text":"Everything expensive but salary low low low lol","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/151709194","repostId":"2148846376","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2148846376","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1625101304,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2148846376?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-01 09:01","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"Singapore Q2 private home prices rise at a slower pace amid COVID-19 curbs","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2148846376","media":"Reuters","summary":"SINGAPORE, July 1 (Reuters) - Singapore's private home prices increased 0.9% in the second quarter f","content":"
SINGAPORE, July 1 (Reuters) - Singapore's private home prices increased 0.9% in the second quarter from the previous three months, slower that the two-and- a-half-year high pace in the first quarter, preliminary data showed on Thursday.
\n
The increase, however, still marked the fifth consecutive quarterly rise.
TheFQ3'21 resultswere blow away numbers with revenues topping $80 billion and beating estimates by over $8 billion.
\n
Source: Seeking Alphaearnings estimates
\n
The problem is that Apple had a nearly perfect quarter.
Investors must consider these likely outcomes when valuing the stock, but the current valuation is based on a recency bias of elevated growth in the last year.\nData byYCharts\nEven after another sterling quarter, analyst estimates are still forecasting a period of up to 4 years where Apple doesn't generate revenue growth in excess of 6%. TheFQ3'21 resultswere blow away numbers with revenues topping $80 billion and beating estimates by over $8 billion.\nSource: Seeking Alphaearnings estimates\nThe problem is that Apple had a nearly perfect quarter. The company admitted that Services revenue won't repeat the 33% growth in the June quarter and these tough comps are problematic for growth in future periods. Investors should easily understand that any growth after reporting a year with 33% growth is impressive, but some post covid slowdowns shouldn't be surprising.\nRight now though, Apple is still priced for excessive growth. A lot of the stock price gains in the last few years are attributed all to expanding P/E multiples. One only has to go back to 2016 for when Apple only traded at 10x trailing earnings. The stock now trades at nearly 30x trailing earnings, or nearly 3x the multiple from just 5 years ago.\nData byYCharts\nIf Apple only traded at 15x trailing earnings, the stock would trade closer to $75, not $150. For this reason, the stock has struggled to break above $150 for a while now.\nWhile the market forecasts 3% revenue growth for FY22, Citi analyst Wamsi Mohanmade it clearreal risk exists for Apple to actually report revenue and gross profit dollars down YoY in the first 3 quarters of the fiscal year:\n\n Apple could be faced with the dual headwinds of tougher comps and weaker demand in Hardware only modestly offset by any Services re-acceleration. Revenue growth for F4Q was guided lower than the 36% y/y growth in F3Q, but the upcoming Dec, March and now even June quarters could be down y/y in revs and gross profit dollars given several headwinds.\n\niPhone 5G Cycle\nHistory tells us that Apple regularly has these product cycles and covid lockdowns should accelerate the likelihood of a future quarter with trough numbers. In addition, the 5G iPhone cycle should advance these normal cycles with sales pushed from the normal quarter into the December quarter last year. Normal sales for the iPhone 13 in the September quarter will accelerate the tough comps in the December quarter and on into FY22.\nTheCounterpoint chart highlights how the iPhone 12/5G cycle has elevated sales to a level where Apple faces tough comps in FY22. Not only were FQ1'21 sales elevated, but the FQ2'21/FQ3'21 units sold were far in excess of the prior two years.\nNo real explanation exists for higher sales other than covid demand pulled forward and the 5G cycle. Even normal market growth wouldn't lead to unit sales surging somewhere in the 50% range for the March and June quarters from prior-year levels.\nInvestors really have to question whether Apple can sell over 60 million units again in the March quarter and another 50 million units in the June quarter. Even selling iPhones at higher ASPs might not be enough to offset some declines in units sold.\nThe crazy part here is that historical norms support Apple reporting some tough comps in the next year and going on to substantial growth in the next decade. The company has Services revenues up to $17.5 billion in quarterly sales accounting for some 21% of sales for the first 9 months of FY21.\nApple is poised to roll these recurring revenues into more consistent growth, but the growth rates will be as annual revenues top $400 billion. Without the recency bias of the last year, investors would understand this concept and appropriately value the stock at a more normal valuation of ~15x future earnings.\nIf the tech giant earns $5.92 in even FY23, the stock would only trade at $89 using a 15x multiple. Remember, one would normally question whether Apple even deserves a 15x forward multiple when earnings are only forecast to grow at a 5% clip in FY23. A stock usually struggles to trade at forward P/E multiples of 2x the growth rate, not 3x the growth rate.\nTakeaway\nThe key investor takeaway is that investors should clearly understand why Apple is struggling to push beyond $150. The stock is already insanely expensive for the normalized growth rates going forward and the real risk that the tech giant actually reports a few quarters where revenues decline.\nInvestors should be selling Apple at $150, not looking to buy even more shares at a price where the annualized returns should be weak.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":679,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3573540190522229","authorId":"3573540190522229","name":"Targarean","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/59de1c73df3e7e460bd84cc786850fa6","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3573540190522229","authorIdStr":"3573540190522229"},"content":"There is so much bias in these articles.
