But winners keep on winning, as this Buffett stock usually demonstrates. How should we approach Amazon stock in this market?

The bull case

Jennifer Saibil: Amazon disappointed investors with its fourth-quarter outlook in the recent third-quarter report. But the third quarter itself was strong, with a 15% sales increase despite pressure from inflation and the strong American dollar.

Management expects sales to increase year over year in the fourth quarter as well, although only 5% at the midpoint. Product sales, specifically from the holiday season, are baked into that guidance.

However, AWS sales are part of that as well, and AWS growth backed down a bit in the third quarter for the first time in a long time. Companies are feeling the crunch of inflation, and that affects their ability to purchase cloud solutions.

In this economy, Amazon is making its best effort to drive sales and wait for better times ahead. The good news is that Amazon has a large moat that protects its business and provides it with enormous growth opportunities.

As of March, there were more than 200 million Prime members. Since then, company updates have signaled huge amounts of new signups, and that number could be meaningfully larger. Including Prime, Amazon says it has over 300 million active accounts. These customers are highly engaged with Amazon's platform and are reliable sources of revenue generation.

Amazon said that Prime day, in July, was its biggest ever by net sales. Amazon uses the money it gets from this core business to power all of its other businesses, some of which are complementary and others that are completely separate.

It has dived into new businesses through acquisitions as well as its own development, some of which have taken off and some of which have fallen flat. The ones that make it, like AWS, more than make up for the ones that don't.

That's how Amazon has created an empire that's so much more than e-commerce, and that's how it will continue to dominate in the years to come.

The bear case

Adria Cimino: Considering rising inflation and current economic woes, Amazon's troubled times may not be over.

The company is hurt by inflation in two ways. First, Amazon faces higher costs for things essential to its business -- like transporting packages. That's because fuel and other related expenses have increased. Second, Amazon's customers may spend less as the pressure of inflation weighs on their wallets.

Until recently, the spending problem mainly concerned Amazon's e-commerce business. But as of the third quarter, even Amazon's big profit driver Amazon Web Services posted a slowdown in growth.

The cloud computing unit said its customers have started reducing their spending. And that means they're going for less expensive options among AWS' suite of products. So, AWS may not be able to cushion Amazon from the crisis as much as it seemed earlier in the year.

All of this has hurt Amazon's earnings. For example, in the third quarter, the company's operating income decreased to $2.5 billion. That's about half of what it was in the year-earlier period.

Amazon's operating cash flow also has been on the decline for the past few quarters. And free cash flow has switched to an outflow of more than $19 billion for the trailing 12 months.

Amazon is working on improving its cost structure and gaining productivity across its fulfillment network. And it's important to remember that today's economic troubles won't last forever. Still, it likely will take some time for Amazon to recover from the current situation -- and return to growth.

Amazon's leadership in e-commerce and cloud computing means its long-term picture is bright. But, in the meantime, you may be in for a bumpy ride if you invest right now. But winners keep on winning, as this Buffett stock usually demonstrates. How should we approach Amazon stock in this market? The bull caseJennifer Saibil: Amazon disappointed investors with its fourth-quarter outlook in the recent third-quarter report. But the third quarter itself was strong, with a 15% sales increase despite pressure from inflation and the strong American dollar.Management expects sales to increase year over year in the fourth quarter as well, although only 5% at the midpoint. These customers are highly engaged with Amazon's platform and are reliable sources of revenue generation.Amazon said that Prime day, in July, was its biggest ever by net sales. Amazon uses the money it gets from this core business to power all of its other businesses, some of which are complementary and others that are completely separate. It has dived into new businesses through acquisitions as well as its own development, some of which have taken off and some of which have fallen flat. The ones that make it, like AWS, more than make up for the ones that don't.That's how Amazon has created an empire that's so much more than e-commerce, and that's how it will continue to dominate in the years to come. The bear caseAdria Cimino: Considering rising inflation and current economic woes, Amazon's troubled times may not be over. The company is hurt by inflation in two ways. First, Amazon faces higher costs for things essential to its business -- like transporting packages. That's because fuel and other related expenses have increased. Second, Amazon's customers may spend less as the pressure of inflation weighs on their wallets.Until recently, the spending problem mainly concerned Amazon's e-commerce business. That's about half of what it was in the year-earlier period.Amazon's operating cash flow also has been on the decline for the past few quarters. And free cash flow has switched to an outflow of more than $19 billion for the trailing 12 months.Amazon is working on improving its cost structure and gaining productivity across its fulfillment network. And it's important to remember that today's economic troubles won't last forever. Still, it likely will take some time for Amazon to recover from the current situation -- and return to growth.Amazon's leadership in e-commerce and cloud computing means its long-term picture is bright. But, in the meantime, you may be in for a bumpy ride if you invest right now. This means cautious investors may be better off waiting for signs of progress before buying Amazon shares.Should you buy Amazon stock now?Investors shouldn't expect Amazon stock to post huge gains any time soon. That said, many stocks are in the same boat right now, and Amazon's struggles as a business aren't exclusive to it, either. There are some value stocks and dividend stocks that are gaining or providing passive income even while the stock market is down, and investors should have some of those in a diversified portfolio. The S&P 500 is down 17.8% from its previous high, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 31.2%. Some growth stocks endured even greater losses. For instance, Cloudflare and CrowdStrike have seen their share prices plunge 78.5% and 54%, respectively, leaving both stocks trading near 52-week lows.

Some Wall Street analysts see these price drops as a buying opportunity. Sterling Auty of MoffettNathanson has a price target of $114 per share on Cloudflare, which implies a 201% upside from its 52-week low of $37.91. Similarly, John DiFucci of Guggenheim has a price target of $270 per share on CrowdStrike, which implies a 124% upside from its 52-week low of $120.50.

To be clear, Wall Street's price targets consider a relatively short time horizon, and no one -- not even the smartest investors -- can predict the future. Cloudflare: Cloud computing

Cloudflare operates a global cloud platform that improves the performance and security of business-critical applications while eliminating the need for costly on-site network hardware. As a result, Cloudflare is the fastest cloud provider in North America, Australia, Japan, and the majority of South America and Europe. But the company also differentiated itself through product innovation. Last year, Forrester Research named Cloudflare Workers the leading edge development platform, citing a stronger current offering and a stronger growth strategy than any rival.

Financially, Cloudflare reported impressive results in the third quarter. Its customer count increased by 18% to 156,000, and the average customer spent 24% more over the past year. In turn, quarterly revenue climbed 47% to $254 million, and the company generated $43 million in cash from operations. As a point of clarification, that meager cash flow may worry some investors, but given the massive market opportunity, management plans to run the business near breakeven for the foreseeable future.

On that note, Cloudflare puts its total addressable market at $125 billion in 2023, and the company recently set a medium-term financial target of achieving $5 billion in annualized revenue in five years. For context, Cloudflare just crossed $1 billion in annualized revenue, so management's forecast implies 38% growth through 2027. That optimistic outlook should give investors confidence.

Shares currently trade at 14.4 times sales -- a bargain compared to the three-year average of 41.7 times sales. That's why this growth stock is worth buying today, though investors should not count on triple-digit returns in the next year.

2. CrowdStrike: Cybersecurity

CrowdStrike specializes in cybersecurity. Its Falcon platform comprises 22 modules that span multiple industry verticals. But every module is delivered through a single software agent that can be installed without a system reboot. Those unique qualities create a compelling value proposition: Businesses can replace point solutions with CrowdStrike's broad product portfolio, and they can implement those products without system downtime.

Also noteworthy, CrowdStrike is the leader in corporate endpoint security, managed detection and response, and threat intelligence. That competitive advantage allows its platform to crowdsource data on an unmatched scale, which makes its artificial intelligence (AI) models uniquely effective in detecting threats, according to management. That further enhances the value proposition for customers.

Not surprisingly, CrowdStrike is growing like wildfire. In the most recent quarter, revenue climbed 58% to $535 million and free cash flow soared 84% to $136 million. But investors have good reason to believe that momentum will continue. Management puts its addressable market at $75 billion in 2023, but CrowdStrike's product pipeline could push that figure to $158 billion by 2026.

For instance, the company recently launched its extended detection and response (XDR) module, a product that blends security signals from cloud workloads, endpoint devices, email systems, networks, and more. CrowdStrike also integrates data from third-party vendors like Cloudflare and Zscaler to supercharge its AI engine. Collectively, XDR accelerates workflows by enabling security teams to investigate threats from a single console. For context, corporate endpoint security and XDR accounts for about $13 billion of CrowdStrike's market opportunity, and its leadership in endpoint security should fuel adoption of its XDR product.

Currently, shares trade at 15.4 times sales, an absolute bargain compared to the three-year average of 36.4 times sales. There's e-commerce, local grocery deliveries, namesake consumer electronics, and a growing slate of digital content. With its widely adopted AWS cloud platform, you're probably doing business with Amazon even when you don't realize that you're doing business with Amazon.

Amazon's a beast. Net sales rose 22% to $469.8 billion. Apple clocked in with just $365.8 billion on the top line for its fiscal 2021. Naturally, Amazon currently operates a lower-margin business. Apple deserves the better multiple. However, Amazon has been the more consistent grower. Apple's growth comes in spurts. It comes through with a fiscal year of double-digit growth in net sales, only to march in place the next two years. Really. Look up the pattern over the past decade. Amazon has a more attractive pattern. It has posted double-digit annual growth in net sales for the last two decades.

Apple has done a great job of building a high-margin services component to its business on top of its innovative premium-priced products. Apple should continue to do well over time, but it's also easy to see how Amazon's consistent big steps could make it more valuable by 2035.

Tesla Motors

This pick will be polarizing. Tesla Motors is already the fifth-most-valuable stock by market cap, and there's no shortage of bears stumped by how every larger automaker by sales volume is trading for less. I'm not one of those bears, and not just because the legacy car builders often have debt-saddled balance sheets and problematic pension obligations.

Teslaisdifferent. Everyone is hopping on the electric vehicle trend now, but it will be hard to duplicate the proprietary Supercharger network. It will be hard to catch up to the tech at Tesla, where recalls are usually just over-the-air software updates. Speaking of updates, does your car get better every couple of months like a Tesla?

Apple turned hardware into a gusher of high-margin services, and Tesla has done the same. Tesla owners can pay $12,000 -- or $199 a month -- for full self-driving features that Elon Musk claims will become a reality later this year. Tesla's growth has been stunning, but the big mistake that bears make is assuming that the earnings potential of every Tesla that rolls off the line is the same as that of its slow-moving rivals' cars.

Shopify

Let's go shopping for a third candidate to be king of the hill in 2035. Shopify is considerably smaller than Apple. It would have to appreciate 33-fold to catch up to the top dog. Shopify has also proven mortal lately, down 63% from last year's all-time high. You still don't want to bet against the fast-growing platform that is making e-commerce a reality for companies and entrepreneurs of all sizes.

Revenue rose 57% last year, including a 41% year-over-year top-line gain in the fourth-quarter results it posted this week. Guidance was a bit vague, leading investors to brace for slowing growth. However, Shopify's unique role is worth exploring. One can argue that Amazon also helps folks sell online through its giant marketplace, but Shopify provides professional stand-alone digital storefronts. Shopify also offers seamless integration into the growing number of channels to sell a product, unlike Amazon, which wants the business to go through its namesake destination.

The gig economy will continue to expand in the coming years, and Shopify will arm the creative and enterprising with instant online stores. Yet, it is expanding at a fast clip, with the established leaders looking to further expand and cement their position yet faced with the ongoing challenge of fending off rising competition and new entrants. \nThe cryptocurrency trading venue landscape has been dominated by Coinbase (COIN). While recent data has shown that platforms such as Kraken and Gemini might be losing ground, it seems like the leading exchange might now have a serious competitor to deal with, according to Raymond James’ Patrick O'Shaughnessy.\n“Crypto.com has been making meaningful inroads against Coinbase’s market leading position, and, in fact, in January 2022 became the largest U.S. exchange by volumes,” the 5-star analyst noted. \nData from Nomics shows that during the year’s first month, Crypto.com’s volumes amounted to 107% of Coinbase’s volumes. This is the “culmination” of a huge growth spurt that began halfway through last year when Crypto.com volume was just ~5-7% of the “incumbent leader.”\nBasically, the charge for dominance has evolved into a two-horse race with the 2 platforms generating over 80% of volumes of the top U.S. venues.\nThe dual supremacy is reflected in the app download front too. According to Sensor Tower data, both take the leading position within the crypto space.\nCoinbase has mostly been leading here for the past year+, although Crypto.com’s momentum was reflected in November and December downloads when it took a modest lead.\nThat said, earlier this year, Crypto.com experienced a well publicized $30 million loss on account of a hack, following which, Coinbase regained the top download spot in January.\nTo sum up, the rising competition might help confirm O'Shaughnessy’s negative take. The analyst is currently the Street’s only COIN bear, sticking with an Underperform (i.e. Sell) rating. (To watch O'Shaughnessy’s track record, click here)\nThe rest of the Street, however, is almost unanimously bullish; barring 1 additional Hold, all 13 other recent reviews are positive, allowing for a Strong Buy consensus rating. Moreover, the average price target is resolutely optimistic; the figure clocks in at $384 and change, suggesting room for ~98% growth over the one-year timeframe.

For that reason, price targets should never be taken too seriously. But the strong bullish sentiment surrounding Cloudflare and CrowdStrike is still noteworthy.

Is it time to buy these two discounted growth stocks?

1. Cloudflare: Cloud computing

Cloudflare operates a global cloud platform that improves the performance and security of business-critical applications while eliminating the need for costly on-site network hardware. In a nutshell, Cloudflare makes the internet faster and safer, and its platform architecture and capacity for innovation afford the company a significant competitive advantage.

Cloudflare interconnects with every major internet service provider and cloud vendor, and its servers are positioned around the world to maintain data connectivity within 50 milliseconds for 95% of internet users worldwide.

That creates an attractive buying opportunity for patient investors. Just don't count on triple-digit returns in the near term.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
These 2 Monster Growth Stocks Could Rise 124% and 201% From 52-Week Lows, According to Wall Street
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThese 2 Monster Growth Stocks Could Rise 124% and 201% From 52-Week Lows, According to Wall Street\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-12 07:48 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Economic uncertainty in 2022 triggered a gut-wrenching downturn in the stock market. That’s an impressive jump, but the individual coins have a long way to go before they’re at any notable level.
\n
A single Shiba Inu coin was trading for $0.00000879 as of 10:22 a.m. ET. Put another way: You’d need to buy 1,138 of them for your investment to be worth more than a penny. (Of course, should Shiba Inu follow the path blazed by Dogecoin, that could make some investors a lot of money.)
\n
Shiba Inu, trading under the ticker SHIB, is now the 47th largest crypto in the world. That’s an impressive jump, but the individual coins have a long way to go before they’re at any notable level.\nA single Shiba Inu coin was trading for $0.00000879 as of 10:22 a.m. ET. Put another way: You’d need to buy 1,138 of them for your investment to be worth more than a penny. (Of course, should Shiba Inu follow the path blazed by Dogecoin, that could make some investors a lot of money.)\nShiba Inu, trading under the ticker SHIB, is now the 47th largest crypto in the world. (Bitcoin, of course, is first, and Dogecoin comes in ninth.)\nElon Musk, who is (in part) responsible for the surge in Dogecoin prices earlier this year, has seemingly given his blessing to Shiba Inu: Earlier this week he tweeted a picture of his new Shiba Inu puppy named Floki.
