Furthermore, with stocks at all time highs, it is to be expected that most of the June open interest is below the current SPX spot price. As shown in the chart below, the dual peaks are at 3,900 and 4,150. This means that after Friday, there may be a certain \"anti\"-gravity around those spots until gamma is refilled.
\n

\n
The Goldman strategist then explains what he believes is below the abnormally low level of realized market vol, noting that - as we discussed last week - it is consistent with long gamma positioning. Consider that SPXrealized volatility over the past 13 trading days has been just 5.1% - the lowest 13-day realized vol since 2019.
\n

\n
This contrasts with extreme volatility in pockets of the single stock market; AMC, which had the highest contract volume among single stocks last week (but far less notional volume at$7bln/day than AMZN’s leading $120bln/day), has had close to 400% realized vol over the same period.
\n

\n
Then, as Nomura's Charlie McElligott first noted last week, Goldman's derivatives team agrees thatthe extremely low SPX realized volatility is consistent with the possibility that 18-Jun has left “the street” long index gamma, in which case Fishman echoeswhat we said last week, namely that \"realized volatility could pick up once positions are cleaner. \"Meanwhile, the rising beta of VIX futures to the SPX indicates that investors expect short gamma dynamics to pick up should markets sell off. The large percentage of all single stock option activity driven by retail, and the predictive value of retail activity, have both heightened the attention on the single stock option market in recent weeks. Recent growth in single stock option activity has been concentrated in low-share-price stocks, leaving a shar prise in contract-volume over the past two weeks that has not been matched by notional volume. When adjusting notional volume for the size of the equity market, Goldman finds that single stock volume has actually been on the low of its 2021 range over the past two weeks which means that the latest ramps had little to no gamma squeeze components to them.
\n

\n
One final point which we discussed recently and which is in keeping with the growing retail participation in trading, is Goldman's observation that the trend toward shorter-dated SPX options (weeklies) and away from quarterlies, continues. In fact, the percentage of SPX option volume happening in 3rd Friday expirations is at an all-time low,and is now smaller than the percentage happening in Monday and Wednesday expirations. One explanation for heightened ultra-short-dated volumes is the strong single stock volumes: and here an interest suggesting from Goldman - \"to the extent market makers are unable to cover the short single stock gamma generated by retail investors’ call buying, they may be actively trading long positions in strips of ultra-short-dated SPX index options to offset this gamma.\"
\n

\n
Why is this important? because if this trend is large enough, it directly contributes to low implied and realized correlation.Ironically, by ramping single name, \"most-shorted names\", retail investors are ushering a period of unorthodox calm across the rest of the market!
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; But that doesn't mean the index itself or the tech sector stocks that populate it are out of the woods. To the contrary, one trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).

Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.

\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"

The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) is up 38% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) is up 26% year-to-date. Parets says, \"[T]he big winners have been coming out of value [stocks] ... Financials, Berkshire [Hathaway], energy ... Those have been the winners. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"

2021 is not 2020

Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.

Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"

Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.

JC Parets breaks down an Apple short

\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. That's pretty scary if you ask me. So, I really like the short a lot. Notice those September highs — where we got to in September was 138. We tried to get back there in January and failed. Most recently, we tried to get back there last month and failed, again. That's the level, 138. If you're below 138, under no circumstances can you own Apple ... I prefer to be short. And how low could it go? ... I could go real low. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.

Gold making a comeback

Parets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.

\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. And over the last year, what were the worst assets? Bonds, yen, gold, staples on a relative bases. All the defensive areas were the worst place to be. And that changed in the first quarter of this year. But that doesn't mean the index itself or the tech sector stocks that populate it are out of the woods. To the contrary, one trader is seeing short opportunities in not only the Nasdaq, but it's biggest component, Apple (AAPL).Tech stocks have been lagging the Dow and S&P 500 this year, but JC Parets, founder of allstarcharts.com, explains to Yahoo Finance Live that this phenomenon stretches back to the end of the second quarter of 2020.\"The underperformance started [on] Labor Day last year at the end of the summer, and that's when they all peaked ... Amazon has done nothing since then. It's not just tech [stocks], it's really big growth [stocks] and even small cap growth [stocks]. Growth in general peaked at the end of last summer — Apple, Amazon (AMZN), all of them on a relative basis.\"The two biggest outperforming S&P 500 sectors this year are energy and financials. The losers have been the growth stocks.\"2021 is not 2020Parets also notes the different market environment this year compared to last year — a phenomenon many investors may not be noticing. \"There's so much more evidence that 2021 is just not what 2020 was, right? It is a completely different type of market, and some investors are able to adjust and see the information coming in and act accordingly. And some investors just like to sit on their hands and hope that last year's market was going to continue to be this year's market. I see it every day, and they're paying a price for it,\" he says.Parets outlines his trading style using the recent highs of certain trading instruments as a line in the sand. If the price is below the level, he's thinking bearishly. \"[If the index level is] below the February highs in small caps or the Nasdaq, under no circumstances can we be long ... Bottom line is there's no reason to be long if the Nasdaq or small caps are below those February highs.\"Apple stock, like many of its peers, has gone largely sideways since September despite making a nominal record high in January. Parets likes a short in Apple based on its relative underperformance, and issues a warning to fund managers who may be loading up on growth stocks at the expense of risk management.JC Parets breaks down an Apple short\"I'm hearing that [Ark Investment Management CEO] Cathie Wood considers Apple her cash equivalent. Why can't it get back toward 100?\" says Parets.Gold making a comebackParets also highlights how defensive sectors and instruments have been perking up since the March lows. He uses a generalized trading maxim to illustrate how the trends in defensive stocks morphed from bearish to bullish.\"First thing assets need to do before they [start going up] is to stop going down. And over the last year, what were the worst assets? Bonds, yen, gold, staples on a relative bases. All the defensive areas were the worst place to be. And that changed in the first quarter of this year. They stopped going down, and over the last couple months, they've actually been going up,\" says Parets. When it comes to things that have started to go up, Parets is looking at playing gold. \"We've been bullish gold. That trade's been working — not just the metal, also the [gold] miners as well. Yen stopped going down, bonds stopped going down. They're not really going up, but they're not going down either. And [with consumer] staples, utilities, [and] REITs outperforming, does that remind you of an environment where stocks are doing well? The low dosage might be a key reason why CureVac's Covid-19 vaccine reported disappointing efficacy in a pivotal late-stage trial, the scientist leading the study of the shot said on Thursday (June 17).\nThe German biotech's vaccine proved only 47 per cent effective in an initial trial, far lower than those of rivals BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna, which are also based on mRNA technology and had efficacy rates well above 90 per cent.\nDr Peter Kremsner from the University Hospital in Tuebingen which is running the trial, told Reuters the low efficacy is \"very likely due to the dose\".\nUnlike BioNTech and Moderna, CureVac did not modify the mRNA used in the shots and therefore a higher dosage was not possible because of the side effects to be expected, Dr Kremsner said.\nWith just 12 micrograms of mRNA per dose, the company has been seeking to position itself as a low-dose alternative to BioNTech and Moderna's established shots with 30 and 100 micrograms per shot, respectively.\nIt is also easy to store and cheaper than the other mRNA shots too.\nThe European Union has agreed to pay 12 euros (S$19.20) per dose for supplies of the shot, an EU internal document shows, but has paid more than 15 euros for the other mRNA shots.\nHowever, the interim trial analysis goes some way to challenging the expectation, which was previously reflected in the company's share price, that all mRNA vaccines are similar.\nThe news wiped as much as 52 per cent off the company's value on Thursday.\nCureVac said on Wednesday that new variants had proved a headwind, but data from BioNTech and Moderna have, however, so far suggested only somewhat weaker protection against new variants.\nDr Kremsner said he thought it was probably a \"long shot\" as to whether CureVac's vaccine might turn out to be more effective when targeting a particular variant.\nThe disappointing results are a blow since European governments had been hoping to add it to their arsenal after age limits were imposed on the use of the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines due to a link to extremely rare but potentially fatal clotting disorders.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":460,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":160976075,"gmtCreate":1623770939097,"gmtModify":1703818971131,"author":{"id":"3582718624135664","authorId":"3582718624135664","name":"jugheadjones","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4ddaadf9526057a361294bf7613e74ac","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582718624135664","authorIdStr":"3582718624135664"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"please like and comment! :-)","listText":"please like and comment! :-)","text":"please like and comment! :-)","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/160976075","repostId":"1191245053","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1191245053","pubTimestamp":1623762167,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191245053?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-15 21:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Quad-Witch Quandary: How Will Friday's $2 Trillion Gamma Expiration Impact Markets","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191245053","media":"zerohedge","summary":"Last week, when discussing thebizarre summer doldrumsin the market which pushed the VIX to the lowest level since the onset of the covid pandemic, we said that this period of abnormal market quiet is likely to last until this Friday' quad-witch, when a massive amount of gamma and delta expire and are de-risked, in the process eliminating one of the natural downside stock buffers .So picking up on the topic of Friday' potentially market-moving opex, Goldman' in-house derivatives expert, Rocky Fis","content":"
Last week, when discussing thebizarre summer doldrumsin the market which pushed the VIX to the lowest level since the onset of the covid pandemic, we said that this period of abnormal market quiet is likely to last until this Friday' quad-witch, when a massive amount of gamma and delta expire and are de-risked, in the process eliminating one of the natural downside stock buffers (see \"4 Reasons Why The Market Doldrums End With Next Friday's Op-Ex\").
\n
So picking up on the topic of Friday' potentially market-moving opex, Goldman' in-house derivatives expert, Rocky Fishman, previews June’s upcoming expiration which he dubs as \"large - comparable to a typical quarterly.\" Specifically, there are $1.8 trillion of SPX options expiring on Friday, in addition to $240 billion of SPY options and $200 billion of options on SPX and SPX E-mini futures.
\n

\n
Yet while these totals are massive, when adjusted for the index’s size the amount of expiring options within 10% of current spot is smaller than just about any quarterly over the past decade.
\n

\n
It's worth noting that according to Goldman estimates that combos accountfor 15-20% of SPX options,so an adjusted open interest total would add up to $1.5tln, still much larger than total expiring single stock open interest ($775bln).

Translation:the market will become much more volatile in a selloff.
\n

\n
Meanwhile, and in keeping with the latest memo stock squeeze, Goldman also notes that while single stock option volumes continue to be high, it is well short of Q1 peaks. Furthermore, with stocks at all time highs, it is to be expected that most of the June open interest is below the current SPX spot price. As shown in the chart below, the dual peaks are at 3,900 and 4,150. This means that after Friday, there may be a certain \"anti\"-gravity around those spots until gamma is refilled.\n\nThe Goldman strategist then explains what he believes is below the abnormally low level of realized market vol, noting that - as we discussed last week - it is consistent with long gamma positioning. Consider that SPXrealized volatility over the past 13 trading days has been just 5.1% - the lowest 13-day realized vol since 2019.\n\nThis contrasts with extreme volatility in pockets of the single stock market; AMC, which had the highest contract volume among single stocks last week (but far less notional volume at$7bln/day than AMZN’s leading $120bln/day), has had close to 400% realized vol over the same period.\n\nThen, as Nomura's Charlie McElligott first noted last week, Goldman's derivatives team agrees thatthe extremely low SPX realized volatility is consistent with the possibility that 18-Jun has left “the street” long index gamma, in which case Fishman echoeswhat we said last week, namely that \"realized volatility could pick up once positions are cleaner. \"Meanwhile, the rising beta of VIX futures to the SPX indicates that investors expect short gamma dynamics to pick up should markets sell off. Translation:the market will become much more volatile in a selloff.\n\nMeanwhile, and in keeping with the latest memo stock squeeze, Goldman also notes that while single stock option volumes continue to be high, it is well short of Q1 peaks. When adjusting notional volume for the size of the equity market, Goldman finds that single stock volume has actually been on the low of its 2021 range over the past two weeks which means that the latest ramps had little to no gamma squeeze components to them.\n\nOne final point which we discussed recently and which is in keeping with the growing retail participation in trading, is Goldman's observation that the trend toward shorter-dated SPX options (weeklies) and away from quarterlies, continues. That also is one of the reasons why Friday’s SPX expiration is smaller than many recent quarterlies, and why as it as approached expiration, its trading volume has been falling.\nAs Goldman explains, investors have been increasingly adopting the full calendar of SPX expirations, including expirations every Monday and Wednesday, as they tailor their views around events. Or should they be doing poorly?\" he asks.Separately, Lee Munson, president and CIO at Portfolio Wealth Advisors, is also telling Yahoo Finance Live he likes gold as an investment because the environment for the precious metal has fundamentally changed. \"What moved gold in the past is not what is moving it right now. We have had a regime change. Generally, I see gold as something that tends to go up when the Fed's balance sheet expands. Some people think the balance sheet can't expand anymore. That's what I call 'BS',\" he says.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":193331388,"gmtCreate":1620753097244,"gmtModify":1704347902638,"author":{"id":"3582718624135664","authorId":"3582718624135664","name":"jugheadjones","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4ddaadf9526057a361294bf7613e74ac","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582718624135664","authorIdStr":"3582718624135664"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"crypto let’s goooo","listText":"crypto let’s goooo","text":"crypto let’s goooo","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/193331388","repostId":"1190684572","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1190684572","pubTimestamp":1620740443,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1190684572?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-11 21:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Palantir accepts bitcoin payments, could invest in cryptocurrency","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1190684572","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"During the first quarter earnings call, Palantir(NYSE:PLTR)reveals it accepts bitcoin as payment fro","content":"
During the first quarter earnings call, Palantir(NYSE:PLTR)reveals it accepts bitcoin as payment from customers and is considering investingin Bitcoin or another form of cryptocurrency.

Last month, Palantir co-founder Peter Thielcontroversially saidthat while he was pro-Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, he wondered \"whether if at this point Bitcoin should also be thought of in part as a Chinese financial weapon against the U.S.\"

Turning back to the earnings, Q1 billings were up 248% Y/Y to $362M, which resulted in the stronger than expected cash flow.

Palantir says commercial opportunities in the U.S. and U.K. have increased 2.5x since February.
