Hikes","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2285249488","media":"Reuters","summary":"Wall Street's main indexes ended Wednesday with solid gains after the Federal Reserve's November mee","content":"

Wall Street's main indexes ended Wednesday with solid gains after the Federal Reserve's November meeting minutes showed interest rate hikes may slow soon.

A "substantial majority" of policymakers agreed it would "likely soon be appropriate" to slow the pace of interest rate hikes, the minutes showed.

"What equity markets needed to see for the recent strength to continue was what we got from the minutes," said Michael James, managing director of equity trading at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles.

Since the Fed's last meeting on Nov. 1-2, investors have been more optimistic that price pressures have started to ease, meaning smaller rate hikes could curtail inflation.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 95.96 points, or 0.28%, to 34,194.06, the S&P 500 gained 23.68 points, or 0.59%, at 4,027.26 and the Nasdaq Composite added 110.91 points, or 0.99%, at 11,285.32.

Trading volume was thin ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, with the U.S. stock market open for a half-session on Friday.

Earlier on Wednesday, a mixed bag of economic data led to a drop in yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note , helping drive stocks up.

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week and U.S. business activity contracted for a fifth straight month in November. Consumer sentiment ticked higher and home sales rose above expectations.

"What I think you're seeing is renewed investor enthusiasm fueled by those who see that beautiful light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel. And there has been so much money on the sidelines that is rushing back into the markets and waiting to get back into the action," said portfolio manager Moez Kassam of Anson Funds.

Heavyweight stocks, including Amazon.com Inc and Meta Platforms Inc, rose 1.00% and 0.72%, respectively.

Tesla Inc jumped 7.82% with Citigroup upgrading the electric-vehicle maker's stock to "neutral" from a "sell" rating.

Deere & Co soared 5.03% after the farm equipment maker reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit.

Nordstrom Inc fell 4.24% as the fashion retailer cut its profit forecast amid steep markdowns to attract inflation-wary customers.

Volume on U.S. exchanges was 9.25 billion shares, compared with the 11.6 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.

Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the NYSE by a 1.97-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.61-to-1 ratio favored advancers.

The S&P 500 posted 21 new 52-week highs and no new lows, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 97 new highs and 126 new lows.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Expect a blowout.
\n
For the June quarter, the tech giant has projected sales of $110 billion to $116 billion, with operating income in the $4.5 billion-to-$8 billion range. Wall Street consensus calls for sales of $115.4 billion, operating income of $7.8 billion, and earnings of $12.28 a share.
\n
There are several reasons why the Street numbers might be too low.
\n
For one, Amazon (ticker: AMZN) has beat expectations in every quarter since the start of the pandemicโin fact, for 10 quarters in a row.
\n
Another is that Amazonโs competitors have already reported solid numbers.Shopify(SHOP), arguably one of the companyโs most important rivals in e-commerce,posted better-than-expected results for the June quarter, noting that sustained digital commerce trends and U.S. stimulus checks in March and April drove revenues above expectations. Strong reports from Alphabet,Snap and Twitter suggest Amazon will post accelerating growth in its underappreciated advertising business. And the strength in the cloud business at Microsoft bodes well for Amazon Web Services.
\n
Street estimates call for Amazon to post $57.3 billion in online sales, up 25%; $24.8 billion in third-party sellers services, up 36%; $14.3 billion from AWS, up 32%; $7.9 billion in subscription services, up 36%; $7 billion in โotherโ revenue, which is mostly advertising, up 66%; and $3.9 billion in physical stores revenue, up 3%.
\n
Plus, there are a couple of other factors at play. This will be the first quarter for Amazon since Jeff Bezos turned over the CEO reins to Andy Jassy. Bezos didnโt typically participate in the companyโs quarterly earnings calls with analysts, leaving that job to CFO Brian OIsavky; it remains to be seen if Jassy will make an appearance this year. Also, Amazon finds itself at the heart of the debateโin Washington and elsewhereโover the power of tech companies, and now faces an in-depth investigation by the Federal Trade Commission over its proposed acquisition of the film studio MGM.Amazon has requested that FTC Chair Lina Khan recuse herself from any matters involving Amazon given her past criticisms of the company.
\n

\n
Investors also will be watching for clues on how the company expects the pandemic and a return to a more normal economy will impact results for the rest of the year. Street estimates for the September quarter call for revenue of $118.6 billion and profits of $12.97 a share.
\n
In a research note, MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni points out that Amazon has underperformed both Alphabet and Facebook shares this year. He thinks the stock has been weighed down by ongoing debate about the true strength of this yearโs Prime Day sales event, as well as ongoing questions about the outlook for e-commerce as supplemental U.S. unemployment benefits lapse in September. Expect a blowout.\nFor the June quarter, the tech giant has projected sales of $110 billion to $116 billion, with operating income in the $4.5 billion-to-$8 billion range. Wall Street consensus calls for sales of $115.4 billion, operating income of $7.8 billion, and earnings of $12.28 a share.\nThere are several reasons why the Street numbers might be too low.\nFor one, Amazon (ticker: AMZN)ย has beat expectationsย in every quarter since the start of the pandemicโin fact, for 10 quarters in a row.\nAnother is that Amazonโs competitors have already reported solid numbers.Shopify(SHOP), arguably one of the companyโs most important rivals in e-commerce,posted better-than-expected results for the June quarter, noting that sustained digital commerce trends and U.S. stimulus checks in March and April drove revenues above expectations. Strong reports fromย Alphabet,Snapย andย Twitterย suggest Amazon will post accelerating growth in its underappreciated advertising business. And theย strength in the cloud business at Microsoftย bodes well for Amazon Web Services.\nStreet estimates call for Amazon to post $57.3 billion in online sales, up 25%; $24.8 billion in third-party sellers services, up 36%; $14.3 billion from AWS, up 32%; $7.9 billion in subscription services, up 36%; $7 billion in โotherโ revenue, which is mostly advertising, up 66%; and $3.9 billion in physical stores revenue, up 3%.\nPlus, there are a couple of other factors at play. Also, Amazon finds itself at the heart of the debateโin Washington and elsewhereโover the power of tech companies, and now faces an in-depth investigation by the Federal Trade Commission overย its proposed acquisition of the film studio MGM.Amazon has requestedย that FTC Chair Lina Khan recuse herself from any matters involving Amazon given her past criticisms of the company.\n\nInvestors also will be watching for clues on how the company expects the pandemic and a return to a more normal economy will impact results for the rest of the year. Street estimates for the September quarter call for revenue of $118.6 billion and profits of $12.97 a share.\nIn a research note, MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni points out that Amazon has underperformed both Alphabet andย Facebookย shares this year. He thinks the stock has been weighed down by ongoing debate about the true strength of this yearโsย Prime Dayย sales event, as well as ongoing questions about the outlook for e-commerce as supplemental U.S. unemployment benefits lapse in September. Nonetheless, Kulkarni thinks that advertising, Amazon Prime subscriptions, and AWS will together drive upside to both second-quarter results and guidance, and he continues to consider Amazon his best pick among the big internet stocks. Kulkarni keeps his Buy rating and $4,075 target price.\nEvercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney maintains an Outperform rating and $4,500 target price. He thinks Street estimates for the second quarter โlook largely reasonable,โ although he has some concerns that the Street might be too bullish on the third quarter, in particular given Prime Day this year shifted into the second quarter.\nMonness Crespi White analyst Brian White notes that Amazon shares have been โrange boundโ over the past few months, but he thinks the company is โuniquely positionedโ to exit the pandemic as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the digital transformation trend. But I think this is not even a basic scenario, but a pessimistic scenario.

I present my comprehensive Amazon (AMZN) analysis in light of the results of the last quarter.

#1 Price vs. Growth

First of all, let's assess whether we can statistically state that Amazon's growth has accelerated or slowed down in the last quarter. To do this, let's compare the revenue growth trends of the key segments of the company with and without the results of the last four quarters.

The dynamics of the 'Online Stores' segment showed a qualitative breakthrough. Without taking into account the last four quarters, a near-linear trend was observed here. Now, it has become exponential:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

The 'Third-Party Seller Services' segment - the exponential growth continues:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

The 'Subscription Services' (Amazon Prime) segment - here the acceleration remains, and the result of the last quarter was better than the trend:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

The 'Other' (advertising services) segment has also showed a significant acceleration:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

The growth trend of 'Amazon Web Services' has slowed down, but judging by the results of the last quarter, there is a gradual return to the previous trend:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

Geographically, Amazon's revenue was also significantly better than the trend:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

So, statistically, not subjectively, we should recognize the acceleration of the company's growthin all key segments. In my opinion, this is exactly what is expected from Amazon.

Further. Over the last 10 years, Amazon's capitalization has been in a qualitative linear relationship with its revenue:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

There is also a certain influence of the company's revenue growth rate on its multiples:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

Based on these two relationships and taking into account the influence of the growth of theM2 money stockin the US, it is possible to build another model that allows us to determine the balanced level of the company's capitalization. In addition, this model allows to model the growth of the company's capitalization based on the current expectations of analysts regarding the company's revenue growth in the next four quarters. Here is this model:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

As you can see, firstly, this model indicates that the company's current price is alreadybelow the balanced level. And secondly, it assumes a25% growthin capitalization in the next four quarters.

#2 Comparative Valuation

In the previous block, I modeled Amazon's balanced price based on revenue. What is remarkable is that if we apply the same approach to the comparative valuation of the company using multiples, we will fail. At least I have not been able to find a single revenue-based multiple that would make it possible to successfully compare Amazon to other companies. But the forward P/E (next FY) multiple adjusted by the expected EPS annual growth rate made it possible to find a suitable model:

Source: VisualizedAnalytics.com

As you can see, judging by this multiple, Amazon is significantly undervalued.

#3 Discounted Cash Flow Model

When predicting Amazon's revenue for the next decade, I proceeded from the average expectations ofanalysts:

Source: Seeking Alpha Pro

When predicting the dynamics of Amazon's operating margin, I also proceeded from analysts'expectationsregarding the growth of the company's EPS, and taking into account the gradual increase in the tax rate to 25%. In my opinion, a gradual increase in the operating margin to 8% in the terminal year is a very realistic scenario.

Here is the calculation of the Weighted Average Cost of Capital:

Source: Author

Some explanations:

In order to calculate the market rate of return, I used values of equityriskpremium (4.72%) and the current yield of UST10 as a risk-free rate (1.6%).

I used the currentvalueof the three-year beta coefficient (0.92). For the terminal year, I used Beta equal to 1.

To calculate the Cost of Debt, I used the interest expense for 2019 and 2020 divided by the debt value for the same years.

Here is the model itself:

(In high resolution)

Source: Author

The DCF-based target price of Amazon's shares is $4,280, offering 29% upside.

Final thoughts

Amazon is one of the companies whose growth has not yet reached its limit and not even entered the plateau phase. In a sense, this is a startup with $73 billion cash.

The fact that Amazon remains in the acceleration phase does not mean that its capitalization is constantly undervalued. But I think this is not even a basic scenario, but a pessimistic scenario.I present my comprehensive Amazon (AMZN) analysis in light of the results of the last quarter.#1 Price vs. GrowthFirst of all, let's assess whether we can statistically state that Amazon's growth has accelerated or slowed down in the last quarter. To do this, let's compare the revenue growth trends of the key segments of the company with and without the results of the last four quarters. The dynamics of the 'Online Stores' segment showed a qualitative breakthrough. Without taking into account the last four quarters, a near-linear trend was observed here. Now, it has become exponential:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comThe 'Third-Party Seller Services' segment - the exponential growth continues:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comThe 'Subscription Services' (Amazon Prime) segment - here the acceleration remains, and the result of the last quarter was better than the trend:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comThe 'Other' (advertising services) segment has also showed a significant acceleration:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comThe growth trend of 'Amazon Web Services' has slowed down, but judging by the results of the last quarter, there is a gradual return to the previous trend:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comGeographically, Amazon's revenue was also significantly better than the trend:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comSo, statistically, not subjectively, we should recognize the acceleration of the company's growthin all key segments. In my opinion, this is exactly what is expected from Amazon.Further. Over the last 10 years, Amazon's capitalization has been in a qualitative linear relationship with its revenue:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comThere is also a certain influence of the company's revenue growth rate on its multiples:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comBased on these two relationships and taking into account the influence of the growth of theM2 money stockin the US, it is possible to build another model that allows us to determine the balanced level of the company's capitalization. In addition, this model allows to model the growth of the company's capitalization based on the current expectations of analysts regarding the company's revenue growth in the next four quarters. Here is this model:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comAs you can see, firstly, this model indicates that the company's current price is alreadybelow the balanced level. And secondly, it assumes a25% growthin capitalization in the next four quarters.#2 Comparative ValuationIn the previous block, I modeled Amazon's balanced price based on revenue. What is remarkable is that if we apply the same approach to the comparative valuation of the company using multiples, we will fail. At least I have not been able to find a single revenue-based multiple that would make it possible to successfully compare Amazon to other companies. But the forward P/E (next FY) multiple adjusted by the expected EPS annual growth rate made it possible to find a suitable model:Source: VisualizedAnalytics.comAs you can see, judging by this multiple, Amazon is significantly undervalued.#3 Discounted Cash Flow ModelWhen predicting Amazon's revenue for the next decade, I proceeded from the average expectations ofanalysts:Source: Seeking Alpha ProWhen predicting the dynamics of Amazon's operating margin, I also proceeded from analysts'expectationsregarding the growth of the company's EPS, and taking into account the gradual increase in the tax rate to 25%. In my opinion, a gradual increase in the operating margin to 8% in the terminal year is a very realistic scenario. Here is the calculation of the Weighted Average Cost of Capital:Source: AuthorSome explanations:In order to calculate the market rate of return, I used values of equityriskpremium (4.72%) and the current yield of UST10 as a risk-free rate (1.6%).I used the currentvalueof the three-year beta coefficient (0.92). For the terminal year, I used Beta equal to 1.To calculate the Cost of Debt, I used the interest expense for 2019 and 2020 divided by the debt value for the same years. Here is the model itself:(In high resolution)Source: AuthorThe DCF-based target price of Amazon's shares is $4,280, offering 29% upside.Final thoughtsAmazon is one of the companies whose growth has not yet reached its limit and not even entered the plateau phase. In a sense, this is a startup with $73 billion cash. The fact that Amazon remains in the acceleration phase does not mean that its capitalization is constantly undervalued. But in this case, based on the patterns between the company's capitalization and the parameters of its revenue, we can conclude that the company isundervalued.Comparing Amazon to other companies through the prism of expected EPS growth, it must be admitted that the company ismuch cheaperthan the market.DCF model based on average expectations analysts indicate a 30% undervaluation. At the start of the year, a similarmodelindicated a 20% undervaluation. When you look at Amazon's revenue forecast for the next decade, you realize that the company will face growth problems. But in my opinion,it is better to invest in a company facing growth problems than aging problems.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":210,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9959481105,"gmtCreate":1673050636407,"gmtModify":1676538774070,"author":{"id":"3582804914081848","authorId":"3582804914081848","name":"SarahLeo","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582804914081848","authorIdStr":"3582804914081848"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9959481105","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":143943758,"gmtCreate":1625757594074,"gmtModify":1703748052227,"author":{"id":"3582804914081848","authorId":"3582804914081848","name":"SarahLeo","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3582804914081848","authorIdStr":"3582804914081848"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/143943758","repostId":"2149347288","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2149347288","pubTimestamp":1625751240,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2149347288?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-08 21:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"1.34 Billion Reasons to Buy Apple Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2149347288","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The tech giant is making solid progress on all fronts in this key market.","content":"
India is the second-most-populous country in the world, counting nearly 1.34 billion people as citizens, trailing China's population of almost 1.4 billion by a small margin. Not surprisingly, global companies are competing hard for a portion of India's substantial private consumption expenditure pie, which was reportedly worth more than $460 billion in March this year, according to database provider CEIC.
\n
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one of the many companies that have been trying to crack the Indian market for a long time now, albeit with mixed results. The iPhone is still a bit player in the booming Indian smartphone space despite being in the country for many years. Apple reportedly held just 4% of India's smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
However, there are signs that Apple's fortunes in India are changing thanks to a series of smart steps, as well as the huge opportunities afforded by the upwardly mobile population that's getting exposure to new technologies. India's massive population presents a huge revenue opportunity for Apple across various device categories, and the good part is that the company is already on track to take advantage of it.
\n
Apple is climbing the ladder in India
\n
DigiTimes reports (via 9to5Mac) that sales of the Mac more than tripled in India in the first quarter of 2021, making Apple the fifth-largest PC original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the country. IDC estimates that Apple's PC shipments (excluding tablets) shot up 335% year over year during the quarter, falling just behind Asus by 2,000 units.
\n
Apple's impressive performance in India's PC market isn't surprising, as the company has witnessed a nice bump in revenue and shipments in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. What's more, Apple's iPad sales in the country are taking off despite the broader tablet market being in a slump. According to third-party estimates, Apple's iPad shipments in India increased 144% year over year in Q1. The company is now the second-largest tablet brand in the country, with a 29% market share.
\n
Meanwhile, Apple's iPhone sales in India are also taking off, with a 207% jump in shipments in Q1, according to Counterpoint Research. That's not surprising, as Apple is offering trade-ins, discounts, and no-cost equated monthly installments (EMIs) through its online store, which seems to be bringing more consumers into its fold. Additionally, discounts offered by e-commerce platforms on popular Apple products are also driving sales.
\n
More importantly, Apple is taking steps to ensure that it sustains its terrific momentum in India.
\n
Pulling the right strings to ensure long-term growth
\n
Encouraged by the sales growth spurred by its online store, Apple is now working toward opening physical stores in India. Apple's products are in hot demand in the preowned market thanks to lower prices: The iPhone has a 20% market share in the used smartphone market in India. So a higher disposable income and local manufacturing could translate into strong sales growth of Apple's new products in the long run considering the company's solid brand equity.
\n
India is still a ridiculously small portion of Apple's overall business.
