Based on an April report from eMarketer, the company effectively controls $0.40 of every $1 spent online in the United States. It's also pivoted its online retail popularity into signing up more than 200 million people to its Prime program worldwide. The fees Amazon collects from Prime help it to undercut its competition on price. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Prime members tend to spend many multiples more than non-Prime shoppers during the course of the year.</p>\n<p>But it's the company's cloud infrastructure service, Amazon Web Services (AWS), that has truly budded into a star. Since the operating margins associated with cloud infrastructure are considerably higher than what Amazon nets from retail and advertising, AWS' growth is leading to a surge in operating cash flow. Eliquis, which was co-developed with <b>Pfizer</b>, has blossomed into the world's leading oral anticoagulant, with sales expected to surpass $10 billion in 2021. Meanwhile, dozens of additional clinical trials are underway for cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which generated $7 billion in sales last year. This offers plenty of opportunity to expand Opdivo's label and pump up its pricing power.</p>\n<p>Another reason Bristol Myers Squibb is such an intriguing stock is its November 2019 acquisition of cancer and immunology company Celgene. Buying Celgene brought the blockbuster multiple-myeloma drug Revlimid into the fold. Revlimid has sustainably grown its annual sales by a double-digit percentage for more than a decade, with label expansion, longer duration of use, and pricing power all playing a role. This key treatment, which topped $12 billion in sales last year, is protected from a full onslaught of generic competition until early 2026. Payment processor <b>Mastercard</b> (NYSE:MA) might well be the safest way to take advantage of a steady uptick in consumer and enterprise spending.</p>\n<p>Mastercard isn't a cheap stock by any means -- at 36 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings consensus -- but it benefits from a simple numbers game. While economic contractions and recessions are inevitable, these periods of turbulence tend to be short-lived. By comparison, economic expansions often last many years. Buying into Mastercard allows investors to take full advantage of these long periods of economic expansion and robust spending. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mastercard has the second-highest share of credit-card network purchase volume in the U.S., the leading market for consumption.</p>\n<p>Investors can also sleep easy with the understanding that Mastercard strictly sticks to payment facilitation. Even though some of its peers also lend, and are therefore able to generate interest income and fees during bull markets, Mastercard has avoided becoming a lender. Like Amazon, it's a stock that was added to Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio by either Combs or Weschler and not Buffett.</p>\n<p>While there's no denying that Teva has its fair share of hurdles to overcome, the company's turnaround-focused CEO, Kare Schultz, has been a blessing. Since taking the helm less than four years ago, Schultz has helped shave off more than $10 billion in net debt, and he's overseen the reduction of roughly $3 billion in annual operating expenses. There's more work to do to improve Teva's balance sheet, but the company is very clearly on much firmer ground than it was back in 2016-2017.</p>\n<p>Schultz also has the potential to play peacemaker for a number of outstanding lawsuits targeting Teva's role in the opioid crisis. If this litigation can be resolved with minimal cash outlay, Teva's valuation could soar. That's meant less in the way of interest income for banks. But the latest update from the nation's central bank suggests that interest rates could begin creeping up in 2023, a year earlier than previously forecast. Bank of America is the most interest-sensitive money-center bank. According to its first-quarter investor presentation, BofA would generate $8.3 billion in net interest income on a 100-basis-point shift in the interest rate yield curve. Translation: Bank of America's profits should rocket higher beginning in 2023-2024.</p>\n<p>At the same time, BofA has done an outstanding job of controlling its costs and improving its operating efficiency. Investments in digitization have resulted in higher mobile app and digital banking use, which is allowing the company to consolidate some of its branches. The danger is that the over-the-counter market is where the scam stocks live. Think of it as a bad neighborhood. Being there can make you a mark for a con.</p>\n<p>For some background, the OTC market is different from exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq, where trading is centralized. There is no one OTC exchange. Instead, the OTC connects buyers and sellers over a computer- and telephone-based system. Any stock that does not trade on the NYSE, Nasdaq or other established U.S. exchange can trade over-the-counter. These securities also are known as “unlisted stocks.”</p>\n<p>Typically, OTC stocks tend to be highly risky microcap stocks (the shares of small companies with market capitalizations of under $300 million), which include nanocap stocks (those with market values of under $50 million).</p>\n<p>The SEC has long warned investors about the high risks associated with such stocks. The Federal Open Market Committee vote was unanimous.</p>\n<p>The more aggressive signal from the Fed’s forecasts saw the dollar rise, stocks decline and yields on 10-year Treasuries jump.</p>\n<p>“It’s a hawkish surprise,” said Thomas Costerg, senior U.S. economist at Pictet Wealth Management, referring to the rate projections. “We are looking at a Fed that seems positively surprised by the speed of vaccinations and the ongoing withdrawal of social-distancing measures.”</p>\n<p>The quarterly projections showed 13 of 18 officials favored at least one rate increase by the end of 2023, versus seven in March. Eleven officials saw at least two hikes by the end of that year. In addition, seven of them saw a move as early as 2022, up from four.</p>\n<p>“The dots should be taken with a big grain of salt,” Powell said, referring to the interest-rate forecasts. He cautioned that discussions about raising rates would be “highly premature.”</p>\n<p>The Fed marked up its inflation forecasts through the end of 2023. Officials see their preferred measure of price pressures rising 3.4% in 2021 compared with a March projection of 2.4%. The 2022 forecast rose to 2.1% from 2%, and the 2023 estimate was raised to 2.2% from 2.1%.</p>\n<p>Consumer-price pressures have proven hotter than expected over the last two months. The U.S. unemployment rate was still elevated at 5.8% in May, with total employment still millions of jobs below pre-pandemic levels.</p>\n<p>Even so, the FOMC median projection for unemployment in the fourth quarter of 2021 was unchanged at 4.5%, and the median estimate for the same quarter a year later was marked down to 3.8% from 3.9%. The Federal Open Market Committee vote was unanimous.\nThe more aggressive signal from the Fed’s forecasts saw the dollar rise, stocks decline and yields on 10-year Treasuries jump.\n“It’s a hawkish surprise,” said Thomas Costerg, senior U.S. economist at Pictet Wealth Management, referring to the rate projections. “We are looking at a Fed that seems positively surprised by the speed of vaccinations and the ongoing withdrawal of social-distancing measures.”\nThe quarterly projections showed 13 of 18 officials favored at least one rate increase by the end of 2023, versus seven in March. Eleven officials saw at least two hikes by the end of that year. In addition, seven of them saw a move as early as 2022, up from four.\n“The dots should be taken with a big grain of salt,” Powell said, referring to the interest-rate forecasts. He cautioned that discussions about raising rates would be “highly premature.”\nThe Fed marked up its inflation forecasts through the end of 2023. The U.S. unemployment rate was still elevated at 5.8% in May, with total employment still millions of jobs below pre-pandemic levels.\nEven so, the FOMC median projection for unemployment in the fourth quarter of 2021 was unchanged at 4.5%, and the median estimate for the same quarter a year later was marked down to 3.8% from 3.9%. Here’s an overview of the concerns that have Tesla shares sliding.</p><h2>TLSA Stock Faces Numerous Headwinds</h2><p>When Tesla reported its fourth quarter earnings in January, the company warned that ongoing supply chain issues will continue to hobble production this year. Tesla warned investors: “Our own factories have been running below capacity for several quarters as supply chain became the main limiting factor, which is likely to continue through 2022.”</p><p>Predictably, the bad news sent TSLA stock down, despite a quarter that beat analyst projections.</p><p>Another issue weighing down Tesla this year is problems surrounding its Cybertruck. The global shortage of computer chips may have an upside for semiconductor stocks, but it has been bad news for Tesla. With no end in sight to the chip shortages, Tesla announced it would not be launching any new models in 2022. That means the Cybertruck — its eagerly anticipated electric pickup truck — is delayed until at least 2023.</p><h2>War in Ukraine Threatens Semiconductor Industry</h2><p>The chip shortage has been bad for automakers, including Tesla. And the war in Ukraine is now threatening to make the situation even worse. Neon gas is a critical component used in the manufacture of semiconductors, and Ukraine is a leading supplier with 70% of the world’s supply of neon. Even worse, Russia is another leading supplier of Neon gas. Russia is also a primary source of palladium, a metal used in electronics. The war puts those sources in jeopardy.</p><p>Furthermore, nickel is a crucial component in making EV batteries. The surge in demand for EVs already had nickel prices skyrocketing, then Russia invaded Ukraine. With Russia supplying over 11.3% of global nickel production, prices are now stratospheric. This makes EV batteries even more costly and it’s likely to make EVs more expensive. There could ultimately be battery production delays because of nickel shortages.</p><p>Tesla’s Plans for Producing Its Own Batteries Seem Optimistic</p><p>Tesla CEO Elon Musk had been promising the company would ramp up production of its own 4680 batteries this year. The batteries hold five times the energy of its current EV batteries, which are sourced from other manufacturers. This would allow the company to put smaller batteries in its cars while keeping the same range, significantly lowering costs. Musk had said that in 2022 the company would have the capacity to produce enough 4680 batteries for 1.3 million cars.</p><p>At this point, it’s looking like mass production won’t really be possible until 2023.</p><h2>Bottom Line on TSLA Stock</h2><p>One notable plus for TSLA stock through a year that has been full of challenges and concerns is its German gigafactory. The $5.5 billion plant had faced a series of regulatory delays, but on March 4, the company was given the go-ahead to begin construction. More news was yet to come, with a series of headlines that raised further concerns — and continued to knock down TSLA stock. Here’s an overview of the concerns that have Tesla shares sliding.TLSA Stock Faces Numerous HeadwindsWhen Tesla reported its fourth quarter earnings in January, the company warned that ongoing supply chain issues will continue to hobble production this year. And the war in Ukraine is now threatening to make the situation even worse. Neon gas is a critical component used in the manufacture of semiconductors, and Ukraine is a leading supplier with 70% of the world’s supply of neon. Even worse, Russia is another leading supplier of Neon gas. Russia is also a primary source of palladium, a metal used in electronics. The war puts those sources in jeopardy.Furthermore, nickel is a crucial component in making EV batteries. The surge in demand for EVs already had nickel prices skyrocketing, then Russia invaded Ukraine. With Russia supplying over 11.3% of global nickel production, prices are now stratospheric. This makes EV batteries even more costly and it’s likely to make EVs more expensive. There could ultimately be battery production delays because of nickel shortages.Tesla’s Plans for Producing Its Own Batteries Seem OptimisticTesla CEO Elon Musk had been promising the company would ramp up production of its own 4680 batteries this year. The batteries hold five times the energy of its current EV batteries, which are sourced from other manufacturers. This would allow the company to put smaller batteries in its cars while keeping the same range, significantly lowering costs. Earnings beats and guidance raises are the norm, and the latest earnings report shows that&#39;s not changing anytime soon. But this quarter-after-quarter firework celebration is confusing investors as they watch the stock tumble further after already being sent into beaten-down territory the last several weeks. And to add insult to injury, there&#39;s nothing in the earnings report or the expectations for FQ1 to focus on negatively. In fact, things are coming along better than expected. However, the problem is the market facing down slowing FY23 and FY24 revenue growth and correlating it to a new valuation.</p><p>I&#39;m not saying the party of Nvidia&#39;s shares is over, but<i>I am saying</i>it&#39;s not going to be the lively dance club it once was. Even when management executes a quarter with $7.64B in revenue against a consensus for $7.42B and guides for a face-ripping quarter of $8.1B against estimates for $7.29B, it&#39;s not enough to overcome the ultimately slowing yearly sales growth.</p><p>This is something I mentioned in my last article when I said I&#39;d wait to add to my position due to the inability to achieve the growth the market was expecting at higher valuations. Shares traded just below $280 when I published the article. Some commenters didn&#39;t expect the stock would get to my buy zone at $264 even when I applied a forward price-to-sales multiple of 20 on the stock. But, as we know, the stock reached $264 and even less in the weeks following.</p><p><b>So what&#39;s this have to do with earnings?</b></p><p>Wednesday&#39;s earnings proved Nvidia - while able to crush estimates and guide significantly higher each quarter - cannot achieve the growth necessary to sustain the high valuation it once fetched.</p><p>The market pays for growth. If there isn&#39;t sustainable growth (read: the same level), there isn&#39;t a high(er) valuation awarded. The market also looks six-to-eight months out. This puts the view squarely at the end of the company&#39;s FY23.</p><p>Of course, estimates will rise - how could they not with an 11% guidance raise - but they won&#39;t be able to justify the 61% revenue growth 2021 just reported. Right now, estimates are predicting 28.5% revenue growth ($34.6B). This is higher than the 17% they expected two months ago, but this recalibration is now much closer to the real number after FQ1&#39;s guidance set the stage for the year. But, surely, the market can&#39;t be pricing in 60% growth for this year with the stock trading at $245.</p><p>And it&#39;s not.</p><p>But, the market perception is now shifting to a new valuation, one for 29% growth ($8.65B quarterly on average this fiscal year). This, however, is still 19 times forward sales. Of course, that&#39;s down from 26 forward sales, but 19 is still relatively high when growth is slowing and lapping high double-digit growth.</p><p>The question becomes, what does the market pay for an Nvidia with no Arm (ARMH) acquisition and slowing revenue growth amid a supply constraint semiconductor market? In a year where the next generation of gaming GPUs are likely to be launched, how will the company supply the demand it can&#39;t even fulfill for its current RTX3000 series? It&#39;s literally tapped out of supply, and incremental revenue will only be found with incremental wafer supply.</p><p>Therefore, the best bet on Nvidia is a bet on semiconductor shortages easing. But this is likely to come slowly and over time, not allowing for a spike in revenue to occur in any one quarter.</p><p>That being said, a historic valuation consistent with 30% revenue growth is more dependable and gives investors a chance to let the market recalibrate. This puts the stock closer to a<i>trailing</i>19 or 20 times sales.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89c37e09b2c7dd424bafab1a80c9c343\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"433\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>This also means the market may ease it into the valuation over the next few months, as the hangover of 60, 70, and 80 percent growth rates fade into the rearview mirror. Using the current quarter (FQ1 &#39;23) as a quarter in my calculation gives us $29.35B multiplied by 20 for a market cap of $587B, translating to a share price of $230 - 6% downside from Thursday&#39;s close.</p><p>This isn&#39;t a price target for a year out, but it&#39;s a fantastic risk-reward target to accumulate shares with a much lower level of risk.</p><p>Now, if we&#39;re going to discount the growth over the next two years closer to 20% (FY24 of $42B) and ease the multiple down to 18 or 19 (I&#39;ll use 18.5), the stock price comes out to $305, or 24.5% upside.</p><p>But this is going two years out, and estimating a discount the market may or may not be willing to grant it. But remember, the market will discount FY24 at the beginning of FY23, so while it&#39;s a two-year-out revenue estimate, it&#39;s a year-out price target.</p><p>And, if you&#39;re wondering about earnings and PE ratios, the growth rates are estimated to be nearly the same as revenue growth, implying margins aren&#39;t going to go any higher.</p><p>Add in the company didn&#39;t see &#34;outperformance&#34; on its gross margins, which some have pointed to as the &#34;sole&#34; reason the market sold off the stock on Wednesday&#39;s earnings, and it&#39;s fair to say there may not be anything left in the tank at this time for Nvidia to push the outperformance envelope to the level necessary for a return to all-time highs.</p><p>Nvidia not only has to continue to perform at the level it has (11% guidance raises and a beat on top of it at report time) but has to find an inflection in its business again; a new product or technology breakthrough. This is Nvidia, so this is very possible and even likely. However, any misstep will see the stock cut down in an instant at current valuations.</p><p>This isn&#39;t to say I don&#39;t like Nvidia; I&#39;m happily long the stock and will continue to be. But detach your emotions for a few minutes, study what the market is doing to the stock and why, and you can recalibrate your mindset to be where the market will be in a year and not where it is today. Earnings beats and guidance raises are the norm, and the latest earnings report shows that's not changing anytime soon. But this quarter-after-quarter firework celebration is confusing investors as they watch the stock tumble further after already being sent into beaten-down territory the last several weeks. And to add insult to injury, there's nothing in the earnings report or the expectations for FQ1 to focus on negatively. In fact, things are coming along better than expected. However, the problem is the market facing down slowing FY23 and FY24 revenue growth and correlating it to a new valuation.I'm not saying the party of Nvidia's shares is over, butI am sayingit's not going to be the lively dance club it once was. Even when management executes a quarter with $7.64B in revenue against a consensus for $7.42B and guides for a face-ripping quarter of $8.1B against estimates for $7.29B, it's not enough to overcome the ultimately slowing yearly sales growth.This is something I mentioned in my last article when I said I'd wait to add to my position due to the inability to achieve the growth the market was expecting at higher valuations. Shares traded just below $280 when I published the article. Some commenters didn't expect the stock would get to my buy zone at $264 even when I applied a forward price-to-sales multiple of 20 on the stock. But, as we know, the stock reached $264 and even less in the weeks following.So what's this have to do with earnings?Wednesday's earnings proved Nvidia - while able to crush estimates and guide significantly higher each quarter - cannot achieve the growth necessary to sustain the high valuation it once fetched.The market pays for growth. If there isn't sustainable growth (read: the same level), there isn't a high(er) valuation awarded. The market also looks six-to-eight months out. This puts the view squarely at the end of the company's FY23.Of course, estimates will rise - how could they not with an 11% guidance raise - but they won't be able to justify the 61% revenue growth 2021 just reported. Right now, estimates are predicting 28.5% revenue growth ($34.6B). This is higher than the 17% they expected two months ago, but this recalibration is now much closer to the real number after FQ1's guidance set the stage for the year.
