The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Novavax's coronavirus vaccine Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) last week. Originally, Novavax had hoped to win access to the U.S. market last year. But manufacturing struggles delayed its regulatory request by several months.Meanwhile, Novavax has gained authorization in nearly 40 other countries over the past several months -- and started to generate revenue and profit from its vaccine. So, we might have expected the shares to climb following the nod from the U.S. Instead, they lost 26% in one trading session. Now, Novavax shares are down about 60% year to date. Does this mean it's time to give up on Novavax? Let's take a closer look.Reasons behind the declineThere may be a few reasons behind Novavax's one-day drop. First, there's a bit of \"buy the rumor, sell the news\" going on. The stock actually climbed 22% from the first day of July until Novavax announced its product authorization on July 13.The company already won a nod from an FDA advisory committee in June. The FDA doesn't have to follow the advisory committee's recommendation. But it usually does. So, investors clearly bet on Novavax winning here. And then some decided to lock in gains.A bit of concern about Novavax's safety profile also may have hurt the shares last week. The European Medicines Agency added severe allergies as a possible side effect to watch for after vaccination. I wouldn't expect this to weigh on the shares for long though. Today's leading vaccines -- those of Pfizer and Moderna -- have had similar troubles.Health authorities noted rare cases of heart inflammation following administration of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in teens and young men. These issues haven't hurt vaccine demand -- or share prices.And, finally, Novavax's declines may also be due to a shift in investing trends. Investors aren't as excited about vaccine stocks as they were a year ago. This means there wasn't a rush to get in on Novavax after the EUA.What's next for NovavaxAll of this explains the recent share movement. Now let's have a look at what's next for Novavax.The company already has shipped vaccine from its manufacturing site at the Serum Institute of India to the U.S. It's now waiting for vaccination policy recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A CDC advisory committee will review the vaccine during a meeting tomorrow. After the CDC issues guidelines, vaccine rollout can begin.The U.S. recently ordered 3.2 million doses of the Novavax vaccine. This isn't a huge number of doses. But it's not a surprise. About 67% of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated. So the opportunity in the U.S. today is limited.Now, let's talk about whether you should give up on Novavax. The biotech company has predicted revenue of $4 billion to $5 billion this year. This is great news considering the company didn't have product revenue a year ago. The vaccine is Novavax's first commercialized product. Still, it's very far from the $32 billion in coronavirus vaccine revenue that Pfizer expects to generate this year.It's also important to look at what may be down the road for Novavax. The company is farthest ahead in a race to develop a combined coronavirus/flu vaccine. Its candidate is set to enter phase 2 trials this year. Moderna also is working on a combined vaccine -- but its candidate is in preclinical studies. A combined candidate could be a leader in the coronavirus market of the future. It's an easy option that may attract the population that usually goes for a flu shot.A future winner?Novavax may not be a market leader now. But it could be in the future.All of this means the shares may take a while to advance. As I mentioned above, vaccine stocks aren't as popular as they were earlier in the pandemic. And Novavax will need some time to show its coronavirus vaccine can drive revenue over the long term.What's an investor to do? I don't think now is the time to give up on this biotech stock. I'm still optimistic about Novavax. Today, it's better off than it was a year ago. It's generating product revenue and profit. It's carving out a spot in the market. And in the future, it may release a product with market-leading potential.That said, Novavax doesn't belong in every portfolio. It remains a risky stock. Novavax's share of the market may remain small. And it's too early to say whether Novavax -- and rivals -- will be able to bring a combined vaccine to market. Investors who are uncomfortable with these risks may not want to stick around.But investors with tolerance for risk -- and the patience to wait a few years -- might want to hold onto this vaccine player. Contrary to this abysmal share price performance, however, the company continued to grow its quarterly sales numbers at a nearly 50% rate.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/39e15815bfc09727371b477bf89f4a94\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"264\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>Not only that, but both gross and operating margins continued to improve over the past few quarters since I covered the company.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89db1405a7e4c9d299b65404553554a0\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"262\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>A somehow slowing topline growth rate could be partially to blame, however, Nvidia&#39;s revenue forward growth rate is not very different now from what it was back in September of 2021.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/603bf1b08117128bd80fd3deae02c63f\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"265\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>As a matter of fact, AMD (AMD) forward revenue growth rate is much higher now than it was back then and yet the company&#39;s share price performed remarkably similar to that of Nvidia, thus also significantly underperforming the S&amp;P 500 even on a risk adjusted basis.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/feae396374468950c5e366af1e28a850\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"433\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><h3>So what happened?</h3><p>To put it briefly, the risk that I highlighted in September materialized. Although I will not go into the details again in this article, I will highlight that momentum exposure of Nvidia combined with the monetary tightening (or at least the expectations of it) were the main factors for the company&#39;s poor performance during the past 10-month period.</p><p>I also explained how the whole process works in my thought piece called &#39;The Cloud Space In Numbers: What Matters The Most&#39;, where I did a case study based on another high-growth sector.</p><p>Monetary tightening has a profound impact on high duration stocks and unfortunately, Nvidia is still one of the most heavily exposed companies to rising interest rates in the semiconductor space.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/06f73d8185b657e7c3045f0fdd9e39e1\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"290\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>Even though the relationship between forward revenue growth rate and forward P/E ratios has weakened significantly since September of last year, the flattening of the slope of the trend line above was what caused the companies at the top right-hand corner to perform so poorly even as their business fundamentals improved.</p><p>One of the reasons why Nvidia is still so far above the trend line above, is that in addition to its industry-leading growth rate, it also has one of the highest margins within the broader semiconductors peer group. The premium pricing of Nvidia&#39;s GPUs also sets it apart from AMD, which is valued at much lower multiples.</p><h3>Is Nvidia stock a bargain?</h3><p>Nvidia is arguably one of the highest quality semiconductor companies, with enormous growth opportunities in data centers and the automotive sector. However, it now trades at more than twice the industry average forward P/E ratio.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7856a9f7e7b2dace82df33f3ec1bfc4e\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"263\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>Moreover, recent developments in the GPU market, resulted in never before seen premiums for Nvidia&#39;s products on the back of robust demand from consumers, data centers and cryptocurrency miners. All that propelled margins to levels far above its historical results and the sector median estimates.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4ed63ee078dc5e43574939faba9caa43\" tg-width=\"494\" tg-height=\"188\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/>This, however, does not mean that Nvidia is suddenly a bargain, simply because a high growth and highly profitable company is trading at forward Non-GAAP P/E ratio of below 30x.</p><p>The main reason why the absolute value of its forward P/E ratio could be misleading is that the semiconductor industry is highly cyclical. Tsingshan’s remaining short positions will remain or be traded.</p><p><b>Zip’s share price falls below SPP</b></p><p>Another share purchase plan causing interest was one by buy now pay later groupZip Co (ASX: Z1P), with shares closing down 7.6% after it announced plans to raise about $50 million through the SPP.</p><p>The SPP come after Zip raised $148.7 million at the $1.90 issue price from institutional investors but this price was set at a 2% discount to the volume-weighted-average-price of Zip shares during the five trading days up to 1 April this year.</p><p>With the stock last trading at $1.58, shareholders would be better off buying on market than through the SPP as Zip shares follow technology stocks south.</p><p>In other news Virtus Health (ASX: VRT)shares entered a trading halt after the fertility clinic operator foreshadowed an announcement “in relation to ongoing matters pertaining to proposals to acquire Virtus Health”.</p><p><b>Small cap stock
