U.S. sanctions banned Alphabet Inc's
\n
Google from providing technical support to new Huawei phone models and access to Google Mobile Services, the bundle of developer services upon which most Android apps are based.
\n
Rather than being a like-for-like replacement, Huawei is billing HarmonyOS as an 'Internet-of-Things' platform, aimed at operating on and connecting other devices such as laptops, smartwatches, cars and appliances.
\n
Huawei is aiming to have HarmonyOS rolled out on 200 million smartphones and 100 million third-party smart devices by the year-end, said Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei Consumer Business Group's software department, who has led Huawei's efforts to develop HarmonyOS since 2016.
\n
Wang spoke at a media roundtable a day earlier and his comments were embargoed until Wednesday.
\n
China's leading telecommunications equipment maker found itself on a U.S. trade blacklist in May 2019 due to national security concerns. Huawei has repeatedly denied it is a risk.
\n
The ban put Huawei's handset business under immense pressure. Even though value stocks have been the better performer of the two categories over the very long-term, historically low lending rates and trillions of dollars being pumped into the U.S. economy have created a perfect storm for growth stocks to thrive.

Yet according to Wall Street's one-year consensus price targets, somegrowth stocksaren't anywhere near realizing their full potential. If analysts' consensus price targets prove accurate, the following five high-octane growth stocks offer upside ranging from 54% to 94% over the next year.

Vaxart: Implied upside of 94%

The supercharged growth stock on this list with thegreatest implied upsideover the coming 12 months is clinical-stagebiotech stockVaxart(NASDAQ:VXRT). If you're wondering why I've included a clinical-stage drug developer, it's because all of the analysts covering it are forecasting recurring sales for the company, beginning in 2022. If Wall Street's estimates are correct, Vaxart's stock could nearly double from where it closed this past week.

What makes Vaxart such a unique drug developer is its approach to developing treatments. Specifically, it develops oral recombinant vaccines, rather than vaccines administered by injection. It should be a lot easier to dispense and administer pills than injections, which could resolve factors like shot hesitancy and vaccine access.

Even though it has multiple treatments in the works, most of the buzz surrounding Vaxart has to do with its work in the lab on VXA-CoV2-1, an experimental oral tablet to treat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Data from a phase 1 study in February showed VXA-CoV2-1 met all of its primary and secondary safety and immunogenicity endpoints. The data also signaled that Vaxart's oral treatment may be effective against COVID-19 variants.

Though it's probablya bit too earlyto get overly excited about Vaxart, it's a name worth closely monitoring.

Trulieve Cannabis: Implied upside of 88%

It's no secret that cannabis is set to be one of North America's fastest-growing industries this decade. But amongmarijuana stocks, U.S. multistate operator (MSO)Trulieve Cannabis(OTC:TCNNF)offers some of the most robust upside. If Wall Street's consensus price target of a little over $72 is correct, Trulieve could gallop higher by 88% over the coming year.

There are a lot of unique growth strategies among MSOs, but none hasproved more successful than Trulieve's blueprint. At the moment, Trulieve has 88 operational dispensaries. But here's the kicker: 82 of them are located in medical marijuana-legal Florida. By focusing its efforts on a single big-dollar state, Trulieve has been able to saturate the market, effectively build up its brand, and keep its marketing costs down. The company has been profitable for 13 consecutive quarters, and as of the end of 2020 controlled 53% of the Sunshine State's dried flower market and 49% of its high-margin cannabinoid oils market.

Equally intriguing is Trulieve's recently announced all-stock deal to acquire MSOHarvest Health & Recreation(OTC:HRVSF)for $2.1 billion. Harvest has a focus on five states, one of which happens to be Florida. Aside from solidifying an even bigger presence in the Sunshine State, Trulieve will gain access to Harvest's state-leading 15 dispensaries in Arizona. The Grand Canyon State legalized recreational weed in November. There's a good chance Trulieve can use Harvest's infrastructure to duplicate its success in Arizona.

Magnite: Implied upside of 59%

Another high-octane growth stock with significant upside potential, according to Wall Street, is sell-side advertising technology platformMagnite(NASDAQ:MGNI). If analysts are correct about Magnite hitting nearly $46 a share in 12 months, it would represent upside potential of 59%.

Magnite finds itself at the center of a double-digit growth trend that should last for a long time to come. As consumers cut the cord to traditional cable and shift to other forms of entertainment and content consumption, businesseswill be more likely to shift their advertising dollarsonline, to apps, and to streaming/connected TV (CTV). Although mobile platforms accounted for almost half of Magnite's revenue last year, it's CTV that looks to be the most intriguing long-term growth driver.

One of thebiggest boostsfor Magnite should come from its recently closed cash-and-stock acquisition of SpotX. SpotX generated $31.2 million in sales (less traffic acquisition costs) in the first quarter, with $19.7 million of this net revenue attributable to CTV. That was up 70% from the prior-year period. The now-combined company has sell-side ad platform exposure to the likes offuboTV,Roku,Disney, and WarnerMedia, to name a few leading platforms.

With Magnite profitable on a recurring basis and fully capable of sustainable double-digit growth, a 59% 12-month return isn't out of the question.

Teladoc Health: Implied upside of 56%

Transformativehealthcare stockTeladoc Health(NYSE:TDOC)is also expected to offer abundant upside potential. Based on Wall Street's consensus price target of around $229, Teladoc could rise by a cool 56% over the next 12 months.

A lot of folks view Teladoc asone of the biggest winners during the COVID-19 pandemic. With doctors wanting to keep high-risk people and infected patients out of their offices, many turned to virtual visits. Teladoc ultimately handled 10.59 million telehealth visits last year, up from 4.14 million in 2019. But these folks are probably overlooking that Teladoc grew sales by an annual average of 74% in the six years leading up to the pandemic.

What makes telemedicine such a winning trend is that itoffers advantages up and down the treatment chain. Telehealth allows patients to stay home for consultations, and it's a tool physicians can use to keep closer tabs on their chronically ill patients. This ease of oversight could result in improved patient outcomes. It also doesn't hurt that virtual visits are billed at a lower rate than office visits.

Following its acquisition of leading applied health signals company Livongo Health in the fourth quarter, Teladoc has all the tools needed to provide next-level personalized care. In other words, this price target looks very realistic over the next year.

Plug Power: Implied upside of 54%

Finally, hydrogen fuel-cell solutions companyPlug Power(NASDAQ:PLUG)is a (pardon the irony) high-octane growth stock with ample upside. If analysts are correct about its price target of almost $47 in a year, Plug could deliver a 54% return to its shareholders.

The big buzz with Plug Power is the push by developed countries, including the U.S., to renewable sources of energy. President Biden has proposed a massive infrastructure bill tailored to renewable energy projects, which signals the federal government's willingness to invest in clean-energy solutions.

Since the year began, Plug Power landed two major joint venture partners. South Korea's SK Group took a 10% equity stake in Plug and will work with the company to develop hydrogen fuel-cell solutions for vehicles and refilling stations. Meanwhile, French auto companyRenaultformed a joint venture with Plug to tackle Europe's light commercial vehicle market. Following these joint venture announcements, the companyintroduced a gross billings target of $1.7 billion by 2024, which would almost quadruple its forecasted sales for 2021.

Whether it'll be smooth sailingremains to be seen. The company recently restated years' worth of its income statements, and history hasn't always been kind to the introduction of new automotive technology.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 High-Octane Growth Stocks With 54% to 94% Upside, According to Wall Street
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 High-Octane Growth Stocks With 54% to 94% Upside, According to Wall Street\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-08 21:56 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
If analysts are correct, this assortment of rapidly growing companies could deliver big-time returns over the next year. For the past 12 years, growth stocks have been the key to sending the broader ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"VXRT":"Vaxart, Inc","MGNI":"Magnite, Inc.","TDOC":"Teladoc Health Inc.","PLUG":"普拉格能源","TCNNF":"Trulieve Cannabis Corporation"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/06/08/5-high-octane-growth-stocks-with-54-to-94-upside/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1166056944","content_text":"If analysts are correct, this assortment of rapidly growing companies could deliver big-time returns over the next year. For the past 12 years, growth stocks have been the key to sending the broader market higher. There's a good chance Trulieve can use Harvest's infrastructure to duplicate its success in Arizona.Magnite: Implied upside of 59%Another high-octane growth stock with significant upside potential, according to Wall Street, is sell-side advertising technology platformMagnite(NASDAQ:MGNI). If analysts are correct about Magnite hitting nearly $46 a share in 12 months, it would represent upside potential of 59%.Magnite finds itself at the center of a double-digit growth trend that should last for a long time to come. With Magnite profitable on a recurring basis and fully capable of sustainable double-digit growth, a 59% 12-month return isn't out of the question.Teladoc Health: Implied upside of 56%Transformativehealthcare stockTeladoc Health(NYSE:TDOC)is also expected to offer abundant upside potential. Based on Wall Street's consensus price target of around $229, Teladoc could rise by a cool 56% over the next 12 months.A lot of folks view Teladoc asone of the biggest winners during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also doesn't hurt that virtual visits are billed at a lower rate than office visits.Following its acquisition of leading applied health signals company Livongo Health in the fourth quarter, Teladoc has all the tools needed to provide next-level personalized care. In other words, this price target looks very realistic over the next year.Plug Power: Implied upside of 54%Finally, hydrogen fuel-cell solutions companyPlug Power(NASDAQ:PLUG)is a (pardon the irony) high-octane growth stock with ample upside. If analysts are correct about its price target of almost $47 in a year, Plug could deliver a 54% return to its shareholders. The big buzz with Plug Power is the push by developed countries, including the U.S., to renewable sources of energy. President Biden has proposed a massive infrastructure bill tailored to renewable energy projects, which signals the federal government's willingness to invest in clean-energy solutions.Since the year began, Plug Power landed two major joint venture partners. Following these joint venture announcements, the companyintroduced a gross billings target of $1.7 billion by 2024, which would almost quadruple its forecasted sales for 2021.Whether it'll be smooth sailingremains to be seen. The company recently restated years' worth of its income statements, and history hasn't always been kind to the introduction of new automotive technology.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":153,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":135148491,"gmtCreate":1622153722313,"gmtModify":1704180305262,"author":{"id":"3584647426424202","authorId":"3584647426424202","name":"KzyKzy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9deebb1e0b048ff798962e37f03b5232","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584647426424202","idStr":"3584647426424202"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment. Every time I sold, it just went higher, and I bought again quickly, I kept repeating and thus reduced my bitcoin to 5.76 bitcoin,\" he explained. It turned out to be an error that slashed about $70,000 from his account, at that time.Dawood said that he eventually sold his remaining bitcoin to a man he met through www.localbitcoins.com , a site that matches buyers and sellers of crypto and touts human-to-human transactions. The buyer wanted to wire him the sale proceeds but Dawood felt more comfortable meeting in a public place. Dawood arranged to meet at a nearby Dubai mall.He accepted 370,000 Emirati Dirham , the equivalent of about $100,000 at the time, in exchange for his 5.76 bitcoin.\"I counted the [money] and then deposited [it] in my 2 bank accounts in separate transactions. For most people, this is where the story ends, especially after taking a nearly 4-bitcoin profit in his crypto foray. However, Dawood was itching to find a fresh investment. So he bought 15,500 shares of NIO at $4.64 on Jan. 23, 2020, and another chunk of 6,565 shares at $4.12 days later as the stock slipped, before making a final purchase of 2,055 shares at $12.79 in July.In total, he was holding on to more than 24,000 NIO shares, which cost him a little over $125,000, including an additional $25,000 that he accumulated from winning bets in Organigram Holdings (OGI.T), and Canadian cannabis company Aphria, which was bought by rival Tilray Inc. in a deal announced earlier this year.Nearly a year after his January 2020 buy, Dawood sold his more than 24,000 shares of NIO in December, bought at an average price of $7.18, at $46.603 for a total of $1.124 million, trading statements reviewed by MarketWatch show. Then, he took the money from his NIO investment and poured the entire sum into GameStop Corp. $(GME.AU)$, purchasing more than 50,500 shares on Dec. 28, 2020 at around $22.\"It's a stupid move, I agree,\" he told MarketWatch. \"And my friends and my family all told me not to.\" But Dawood did it anyway.Tales of thrill-seeking investors appear to be growing against a backdrop of a stock market that is flush with liquidity from central banks across the globe and a prevailing climate of low interest rates that have emboldened investors young and old to carve out paths that might make the likes of Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA)(BRKA) CEO Warren Buffett or Peter Lynch grimace.Brokerages, offering zero-commission trades are riding this wave of new investors. Fidelity Investments, for example, said that it added 4.1 million new accounts , according to data from JMP Securities, as stuck-at-home investors used pandemic stimulus funds to make stock bets.National Securities chief market strategist Art Hogan said that \"there are literally thousands of stories\" like Dawood's that \"worked out the other way.\"\"To me, this is a great sideshow story that really has nothing to do with investing whatsoever, but it's the nature of what's happening now,\" Hogan said. The Dow Jones Industrial Average , the S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite Index have seen choppy trade in recent weeks, but indexes aren't that far from record highs as investors wrestle with the prospect of higher inflation and a sizzling post-pandemic economy.A recent New York Times article made crypto trader Glauber Contessoto famous, after documenting the 33-year-old's outlandish, leveraged bets on \"meme\" asset dogecoin , which had made him roughly $2 million as of early to mid-May.Dogecoin has taken a precipitous drop along with the rest of the crypto complex since then, however.See:Individual investors are back--here's what it means for the stock marketDawood says that he wants people to know his story because he thinks that too few of his friends and people his age are investing and he believes that saving isn't enough to grow wealth. There are a couple of things to know about Dawood's GameStop wager. Had he been as patient with his GME bet as he was with NIO, he would be a millionaire many times over. His shares would have been worth $17.5 million had he sold GameStop around the peak in January, and those shares would still be worth around $12 million if he owned them today. But he says he sold them at $33 because a paper profit isn't profit at all.Despite this, Dawood grew his portfolio to roughly $1.7 million. Nothing to sneeze at, but hardly the money that he could have made.Does he have any regrets? \"Of course,\" he said. But he's living with it.So what did Dawood do with the proceeds from GameStop? He put it back in NIO and that is where it will stay until it hits $100. He's already lost a chunk on that wager. NIO is trading at $37.92 as of Wednesday, or about half of where Dawood originally bought it.Meanwhile, he has been supplementing his income by selling covered calls against his investment portfolio. A call is an option that gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy the underlying asset at a specified strike price by a certain time.By selling calls, Dawood is effectively betting that the price won't rise above the strike price, while collecting the premium paid by the buyer for the option.Check out:How an options-trading frenzy is lifting stocks and stirring fears of a market bubbleIf his stocks rise in value above the strike price, he pays the option buyer the difference between the equity price and the strike price. If the stock falls or doesn't rise enough to hit the exercise price, he keeps the premium paid by the option buyer. He's earned tens of thousands using that strategy so far and has lived off some of that income and invested it in NIO, most recently.Dawood is currently on an eight-month unpaid leave from his airline gig as much of the world attempts to emerge from COVID. His expenses are minimal. His company pays for his apartment, where he has lived for a number of years and he drives a modest vehicle for a would-be millionaire: a 2011 Ford Figo:He said that he plans to end his high-risk parlays once he hits $3 million, at which point he may buy property and purchase something more staid and secure than meme stocks and crypto.\"I will tell you that when you contemplate things like that, when you say to yourself 'when I get to this amount, I will stop' or whatever your goal is...you're really just rolling the dice,\" the National Securities' Hogan added.\"Congratulations to him for how it's turned out so far...but this isn't investing, it's gambling,\" Hogan said.Right now, Dawood isn't blinking, despite NIO's recent slump. \"I believe in NIO,\" he said and plus, \"Tesla Inc. $(TSLA)$ was too expensive for me,\" he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":265,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3581993954812723","authorId":"3581993954812723","name":"BraveAAC","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5a1e3a611a362857570052e45ff04ad3","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3581993954812723","idStr":"3581993954812723"},"content":"Here you go. They don't compete directly in all areas, but there are enough similarities to make a meaningful pairing.

Where PayPal and Square fit in

PayPal Holdings Inc. (PYPL) was spun off from eBay Inc. $(EBAY)$ in July 2015. Square was founded in 2009 by CEO Jack Dorsey and James McKelvey Jr. (a current board member), and went public in November 2015. Dorsey also serves as CEO of Twitter Inc. Square also has Cash App, which helps individual users, businesses and organizations transfer money or bitcoin through the app or by email.

\"Customers can also use their stored funds to buy and sell bitcoin and equity investments within Cash App,\" according to Square's first-quarter 10-Q report .

Here's a comparison of quarterly and annual transaction volume for the two companies, with figures in millions:

PayPal has a much larger payment-processing business than Square, and recently, its quarterly and annual transaction volumes have grown more rapidly.

Key metrics

Size, revenue and profit

Here is a comparison of the companies' market capitalizations and GAAP net revenue figures for the first quarters of 2021 and 2020:

GAAP stands for Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, under which Square's revenue from its bitcoin holdings has caused the company's total revenue to balloon. Here's Square's more detailed revenue breakdown:

This illustrates why an investor considering an individual stock has to take a closer look to form their own opinion.

Here's what Square had to say about its revenue reporting in its first-quarter shareholder letter :

We deduct bitcoin revenue because our role is to facilitate customers' access to bitcoin. When customers buy bitcoin through Cash App, we only apply a small margin to the market cost of bitcoin, which tends to be volatile and outside our control. Therefore, we believe bitcoin gross profit better reflects the economic benefits as well as our performance from these transactions.

More from Square's shareholder letter:

While bitcoin revenue was $3.51 billion in the first quarter of 2021, up approximately 11x year over year, bitcoin gross profit was only $75 million, or approximately 2% of bitcoin revenue.

So Square's adjusted net revenue for the first quarter was $1.55 billion, increasing 44% from the year-earlier quarter.

Read:A bitcoin battle of the billionaires ensues as Jack Dorsey faces off with Musk on 'green' merits of world's No. 1 crypto

Excitement for bitcoin caused the spike in revenue for Square, as its Cash App users participated in the eightfold increase in the cryptocurrency's price in dollars over the 12 months through March 31.

Here's a comparison of gross profits (earnings before operating expenses) and operating profits (earnings before interest and taxes) for PayPal and Square for the first quarters of 2021 and 2020:

PayPal has the larger payment-processing business, by far, while Square is growing its profits more quickly. Despite Square's point that it derives a relatively small portion of its profits from bitcoin revenue, the massive amount of revenue from bitcoin transactions, including customers' trades through Cash App, show the potential of this type of customer activity.

Returns on common equity and invested capital

These returns can give some insight into how well a management team deploys capital:

Return on invested capital is earnings divided by combined debt and equity. It is a measure of capital allocation efficiency and can be useful when comparing companies that are similar. In this case, none of these numbers are bad -- both companies are still growing their businesses in a dynamic environment.

Earnings estimates to 2025

Here are the actual earnings-per-share results for 2020 with consensus estimates among analysts polled by FactSet going out to 2025:

Here are estimated annual percentage increases in EPS based on the above, plus an estimated five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR):

That five-year CAGR for Square is bumped up by the expected EPS breakout in 2021. But if we run a four-year EPS CAGR from 2021 through 2025, the results are 21% for PayPal and 46% for Square. Both are impressive, but Square comes out on top if analysts' estimates are close to accurate. This helps explain the much higher forward price-to-earnings ratio for Square that you can see further down.

Cash flow

In the modern economy, many investors believe free cash flow -- remaining cash flow after planned capital expenditures -- is a critically important measure. One reason for this is that so many one-time non-cash items can affect EPS. Another is that free cash flow can be deployed through business expansion, acquisitions, share buybacks dividends or other actions that will presumably be good for shareholders.

Square has had negative free cash flow $(FCF)$ for two of the past four quarters, which isn't surprising, as the company emphasizes growing its business. So it may be most useful to look ahead. FactSet has consensus estimates for FCF per share going out to 2023:

Again, the analysts expect great things from both companies, especially Square.

Stock valuation and performance

Here are forward price-to-earnings and price-to-sales ratios based on consensus estimates for the next 12 months, along with total return figures:

Those are high valuations to expected earnings and sales. Then again, that has been par for the course for the most rapidly growing tech-oriented stocks over the past several years.

Wall Street's opinion

PayPal has more \"buy\" ratings among Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet, but Square as the more aggressive price target:

Even though the analysts provide earnings estimates going many years out, their share-price targets are for 12 months, per tradition. For leisure and travel stocks like Airbnb that got slammed by pandemic shutdowns, the lifting of Covid curbs means adjusting to a whole new world.

Some tastes people acquired last year as they looked for escapes from lockdown are proving durable, like traveling to national parks by RV. Others, such as boating, grew out of surges in wealth that the stock market rally provided. As the summer travel season heats up, Americans are making new choices in where they go, when they go, how they get there and who joins them.

\"The world is never going back to the way it was,\" said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky on an earnings call in May. \"And that means that travel is never going back to the way it was either.\"

One major trend is travelers have become more flexible about when and where they go, especially as remote work allows people to blur when they are on and off the clock. Airbnb stock rose May 24, when the company updated booking features, including an option to search for listings without fixed dates or locations.

And consumers aren't the only ones changing their habits. While tourism-dependent destinations suffered last year, the less-packed streets also showed locals the benefits of quieter communities.

Residents and local officials in normally packed hot spots like Italy and Hawaii are considering limiting the number of tourists. Such a seismic change could make visiting these places prohibitively expensive for many people. If the mix of travelers tilts more heavily toward the wealthy, travel stocks will nudge further toward luxury.

Leisure, Travel Industry Stocks

Shares across the sector have rebounded from last year's pandemic lows. The stocks' recent chart action is mixed. But many travel stocks have outperformed the market the past week and could present buying opportunities for investors.

Airline stocks like American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines surged earlier this year on the Reddit stock short squeeze. Then they sold off because business and overseas travel remained weak. Since then, they've consolidated and are approaching buy points.

Cruise stocks like Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line are showing similar patterns.

Meanwhile, shares of boat makers MarineMax and Brunswick as well as RV makers Winnebago and Thor Industries need to regroup after some failed breakouts. They are no longer in buy zones but could form new bases if earnings and sales growth remain strong.

Hotel leader Marriott has been less volatile and is forming a base, though earnings and sales have yet to fully recover.

Airbnb stock has had a more difficult year. It surged after going public in December but began to slump in March as competition from Expedia rival Vrbo rental service reduced the availability of hosts. A mixed Q1 earnings report and the end of a post-IPO lockup period also weighed on Airbnb stock, which popped up 6% Thursday on higher volume but remained 35% off its 2021 high.

When Luxury Means More Privacy

Luxury travel, once the purview of only the ultrarich, may have won over those who might have had the means but not the need to travel lavishly. As travelers sought to avoid crowds during the pandemic, those with the means turned to options like private jets.

Arnie Weissman, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, says the pandemic opened luxury travel to a wider customer base. \"Some people developed a taste for it, and it's likely to continue.\"

Kim-Marie Evans, who writes the blog \"Luxury Travel Moms\" and plans travel for high-net-worth clients, told IBD she booked a trip for a family to Anguilla.

They stayed in a four-bedroom villa at the Four Seasons. And VistaJet, another leading private jet company, said membership climbed 29% from a year ago.

Private jet leasing company NetJets, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, says its flight volume dropped to as low as 10% of 2019 numbers at the start of the pandemic.

Now the company, which also offers fractional ownership of its jets, says it's operating at 85% of its 2019 volume. NetJets said in a statement that commercial airlines have reduced their schedules. Consumers also are prioritizing their health and safety, choosing the seclusion of a private jet over a packed jetliner.

Vacation Shift Favors These Travel Stocks

Hotel chains implemented stringent Covid-19 protocols to convince visitors their properties were clean and safe. Still, many travelers opted to rent private homes through Airbnb, where they could avoid mingling with strangers in hotel lobbies, Weismann says.

Travel trends favor Airbnb stock long term, though it currently is slumping. On May 27, analysts at RBC Capital Markets rated shares at outperform, citing secular tailwinds that have yet to be fully appreciated by the market such as its dominant customer engagement.

The pandemic also shed light on the market potential of travel stocks like Marriott, which operates home-rental service Homes & Villas by Marriott International, catering to ultra premium short- and long-term stays, CFRA Research analyst Tuna Amobi says.

The Homes & Villas platform, which offers professionally managed private homes, had around 2,000 units at launch less than two years ago. Today, it lists nearly 25,000 properties.

\"They're where we don't have hotels, and many of them are in more remote locations, which really was quite attractive during Covid,\" said Marriott International President Stephanie Linnartz in a recent call with investors.

Airbnb also finds that customers are visiting smaller cities, towns and rural communities — not the same 20-30 cities that were most popular pre-pandemic. People are traveling outside the peak seasons and staying longer.

\"There is a mass shift from mass travel to meaningful travel,\" CEO Chesky said.

Seaworthy Travel Stocks

Luxury cruising should also come back with a bang. Nearly every cruise line's around-the-world luxury voyage is fully booked two years in advance.

One cruise line, Silversea, said its 139-day around-the-world cruise sold out in a single day. The Monaco-based cruise line is owned by Royal Caribbean. The cruise costs between $74,000 and $278,000 per guest, based on double occupancy. That compares with typical fares that start at $15,000-$20,000.

But others heading out to sea want to avoid crowded ships, which have seen outbreaks of coronavirus and other infections. The National Marine Manufacturers Association says new powerboat sales surged 34% in February compared to the same time period last year.

\"Inventory levels of new boats are the leanest they've ever been, and boats are being sold as soon as they hit the marketplace as manufacturers work to fulfill the backlog of orders,\" said Vicky Yu, senior director of business intelligence for NMMA. \"While new boat sales slowed in early 2021 following record sales last year, we are still seeing elevated levels as more Americans seek out boating as a way to spend quality time with loved ones.\"

The trend has pushed up leisure and travel stocks like boat retailers MarineMax and Brunswick as well as sport boat maker Malibu Boats.

\"It's really turning out to be a great alternative for people to stay close to home and with their family and friends and enjoy the boating lifestyle,\" MarineMax CFO Michael McLamb said in a conference call after reporting earnings April 22.

Travel Stocks For Being Alone Together

The desire to spend more time with friends and family is also spurring RV sales. They exploded in popularity during the pandemic, and sales data this year show demand remains high.

\"The rediscovery of America will continue this summer,\" Weissman said.

The pandemic accelerated long-term trends favoring the outdoors, Winnebago CEO Michael Happe said in a March earnings call. That includes power sports, boating and RVs.

Consumer priorities have changed, he added, toward a desire to invest in experiences vs. possessions.

\"We also believe the time (spent) recently with family and friends has reinforced that they'd like to do more of that in the future,\" Happe said. \"And families and individuals will be reevaluating how they spend their leisure time going forward.\"

Airbnb pointed to another sign of this trend among leisure and travel stocks. Instead of booking studio apartments in cities, more customers are booking entire homes with more bedrooms. As a result, the number of guests per reservation has increased.

Work-Life Rebalance

As people pay closer attention to their well-being post-Covid, another trend to watch is high-end wellness tourism with a focus on fitness, rejuvenation and health, Weissman says. That includes yoga and spa getaways as well as packages that offer cycling and hiking activities.

Meanwhile, the work-from-home shift allowed people to rethink other aspects of their lifestyle. In particular, they can try to balance work, leisure and travel differently.

Wedbush analyst James Hardiman says \"2020 was proof of concept that people can be productive, even more productive, while working remotely.\"

Airbnb says the share of bookings longer than 28 days jumped to 24% in Q1 from 14% in 2019. However, more crucial business will still require people to fly for in-person meetings.

When it's time to show up in person, Airbnb expects workers will travel together more often. That trend also has ramifications for Airbnb stock and others. Employees who work in different cities might stay in one house when they visit headquarters. They could share meals together at the kitchen table in the morning or evening.

That may be a welcome change for road warriors, who pop in an out of cities and squeeze in sightseeing along the way.

\"They don't miss business travel,\" Chesky said. \"They don't miss standing in line in front of a museum or a landmark … getting a photo with a selfie stick.\"
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The Pandemic May Have Changed Vacations – And Travel Stocks Like Airbnb, Marriott, Winnebago – Forever
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Pandemic May Have Changed Vacations – And Travel Stocks Like Airbnb, Marriott, Winnebago – Forever\n
\n\n
\n\n\n<div class=\"head\" \">\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Investors
\n
2021-05-28 23:30
\n
\n\n
\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
Your next vacation will likely be more private, luxurious or family oriented than your trips in the past, and business trips may never be the same. And rather than flying commercially, they used a private jet service.Private jet bookings are at or near their pre-pandemic highs, according to Elite Traveler, citing industry tracker FlightAware's data.In May, private jet company Wheels Up said membership jumped 58% in Q1 to nearly 10,000. And VistaJet, another leading private jet company, said membership climbed 29% from a year ago.Private jet leasing company NetJets, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, says its flight volume dropped to as low as 10% of 2019 numbers at the start of the pandemic. Now the company, which also offers fractional ownership of its jets, says it's operating at 85% of its 2019 volume. NetJets said in a statement that commercial airlines have reduced their schedules. Consumers also are prioritizing their health and safety, choosing the seclusion of a private jet over a packed jetliner.Vacation Shift Favors These Travel StocksHotel chains implemented stringent Covid-19 protocols to convince visitors their properties were clean and safe. Still, many travelers opted to rent private homes through Airbnb, where they could avoid mingling with strangers in hotel lobbies, Weismann says.Travel trends favor Airbnb stock long term, though it currently is slumping. Today, it lists nearly 25,000 properties.\"They're where we don't have hotels, and many of them are in more remote locations, which really was quite attractive during Covid,\" said Marriott International President Stephanie Linnartz in a recent call with investors.Airbnb also finds that customers are visiting smaller cities, towns and rural communities — not the same 20-30 cities that were most popular pre-pandemic. People are traveling outside the peak seasons and staying longer.\"There is a mass shift from mass travel to meaningful travel,\" CEO Chesky said.Seaworthy Travel Stocks Luxury cruising should also come back with a bang. That compares with typical fares that start at $15,000-$20,000.But others heading out to sea want to avoid crowded ships, which have seen outbreaks of coronavirus and other infections. The National Marine Manufacturers Association says new powerboat sales surged 34% in February compared to the same time period last year.\"Inventory levels of new boats are the leanest they've ever been, and boats are being sold as soon as they hit the marketplace as manufacturers work to fulfill the backlog of orders,\" said Vicky Yu, senior director of business intelligence for NMMA. \"While new boat sales slowed in early 2021 following record sales last year, we are still seeing elevated levels as more Americans seek out boating as a way to spend quality time with loved ones.\"The trend has pushed up leisure and travel stocks like boat retailers MarineMax and Brunswick as well as sport boat maker Malibu Boats.\"It's really turning out to be a great alternative for people to stay close to home and with their family and friends and enjoy the boating lifestyle,\" MarineMax CFO Michael McLamb said in a conference call after reporting earnings April 22.Travel Stocks For Being Alone TogetherThe desire to spend more time with friends and family is also spurring RV sales. They exploded in popularity during the pandemic, and sales data this year show demand remains high.\"The rediscovery of America will continue this summer,\" Weissman said. The pandemic accelerated long-term trends favoring the outdoors, Winnebago CEO Michael Happe said in a March earnings call. That includes power sports, boating and RVs.Consumer priorities have changed, he added, toward a desire to invest in experiences vs. possessions.\"We also believe the time (spent) recently with family and friends has reinforced that they'd like to do more of that in the future,\" Happe said. \"And families and individuals will be reevaluating how they spend their leisure time going forward.\"Airbnb pointed to another sign of this trend among leisure and travel stocks. Instead of booking studio apartments in cities, more customers are booking entire homes with more bedrooms. As a result, the number of guests per reservation has increased.Work-Life RebalanceAs people pay closer attention to their well-being post-Covid, another trend to watch is high-end wellness tourism with a focus on fitness, rejuvenation and health, Weissman says. That includes yoga and spa getaways as well as packages that offer cycling and hiking activities.Meanwhile, the work-from-home shift allowed people to rethink other aspects of their lifestyle. In particular, they can try to balance work, leisure and travel differently.Wedbush analyst James Hardiman says \"2020 was proof of concept that people can be productive, even more productive, while working remotely.\"Airbnb says the share of bookings longer than 28 days jumped to 24% in Q1 from 14% in 2019. The company doesn't consider this travel.\"People are not just traveling on Airbnb,\" Chesky said. \"They're now living on Airbnb.\"Future Of Business Travel? That also has implications for business travel, which is the most lucrative segment for travel stocks like airlines.Experts say fewer workers may fly for one-day intracompany meetings. That may be a welcome change for road warriors, who pop in an out of cities and squeeze in sightseeing along the way.\"They don't miss business travel,\" Chesky said. \"They don't miss standing in line in front of a museum or a landmark … getting a photo with a selfie stick.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":276,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":137791694,"gmtCreate":1622387279518,"gmtModify":1704183724092,"author":{"id":"3584647426424202","authorId":"3584647426424202","name":"KzyKzy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9deebb1e0b048ff798962e37f03b5232","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3584647426424202","idStr":"3584647426424202"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi. As the summer travel season heats up, Americans are making new choices in where they go, when they go, how they get there and who joins them.\"The world is never going back to the way it was,\" said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky on an earnings call in May. \"And that means that travel is never going back to the way it was either.\"One major trend is travelers have become more flexible about when and where they go, especially as remote work allows people to blur when they are on and off the clock. Airbnb stock rose May 24, when the company updated booking features, including an option to search for listings without fixed dates or locations. And consumers aren't the only ones changing their habits. While tourism-dependent destinations suffered last year, the less-packed streets also showed locals the benefits of quieter communities.Residents and local officials in normally packed hot spots like Italy and Hawaii are considering limiting the number of tourists. Such a seismic change could make visiting these places prohibitively expensive for many people. If the mix of travelers tilts more heavily toward the wealthy, travel stocks will nudge further toward luxury.Leisure, Travel Industry StocksShares across the sector have rebounded from last year's pandemic lows. The stocks' recent chart action is mixed. But many travel stocks have outperformed the market the past week and could present buying opportunities for investors.Airline stocks like American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines surged earlier this year on the Reddit stock short squeeze. Then they sold off because business and overseas travel remained weak. Since then, they've consolidated and are approaching buy points.Cruise stocks like Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line are showing similar patterns.Meanwhile, shares of boat makers MarineMax and Brunswick as well as RV makers Winnebago and Thor Industries need to regroup after some failed breakouts. They are no longer in buy zones but could form new bases if earnings and sales growth remain strong.Hotel leader Marriott has been less volatile and is forming a base, though earnings and sales have yet to fully recover.Airbnb stock has had a more difficult year. When Luxury Means More PrivacyLuxury travel, once the purview of only the ultrarich, may have won over those who might have had the means but not the need to travel lavishly. As travelers sought to avoid crowds during the pandemic, those with the means turned to options like private jets.Arnie Weissman, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, says the pandemic opened luxury travel to a wider customer base. \"Some people developed a taste for it, and it's likely to continue.\"Kim-Marie Evans, who writes the blog \"Luxury Travel Moms\" and plans travel for high-net-worth clients, told IBD she booked a trip for a family to Anguilla. They stayed in a four-bedroom villa at the Four Seasons. That compares with typical fares that start at $15,000-$20,000.But others heading out to sea want to avoid crowded ships, which have seen outbreaks of coronavirus and other infections.
