Five years ago, it would have been hard to guess what would have happened to Nokia stock (NOKIA) since the mid-2010s.
\n
Wall Street Meme tells the story of this tech stock that has morphed from growth to value to meme – and that after fits and starts, still trades around pre-dot com bubble prices.
\n
Nokia: an unlikely journey
\n
In 2007, moments before Apple’s iPhone disrupted (or perhaps reinvented) the world of consumer mobile devices forever, Nokiacontrolled50% of the smartphone market. But the company’s fall from grace did not take long: Nokia accounted for less than 3% of the market by late 2012.
\n
However, the Finnish growth story did not end there. Between 2016-2017, Nokia began drawing the attention of investors looking to bet on the 5G upgrade cycle that would likely start a couple of years later. The company’s network division had been struggling, but the management team believed in a turnaround as 5G infrastructure had to be built around the globe.
\n
True to its roots, unfortunately,Nokia disappointed yet again. In 2019, the company warned that its recovery was in jeopardy, as competition with Ericsson and Huawei for 5G contracts became too fierce for Nokia to handle. Five years ago, it would have been hard to guess what would have happened to Nokia stock (NOKIA) since the mid-2010s.\nWall Street Meme tells the story of this tech stock that has morphed from growth to value to meme – and that after fits and starts, still trades around pre-dot com bubble prices.\nNokia: an unlikely journey\nIn 2007, moments before Apple’s iPhone disrupted (or perhaps reinvented) the world of consumer mobile devices forever, Nokiacontrolled50% of the smartphone market. But the company’s fall from grace did not take long: Nokia accounted for less than 3% of the market by late 2012.\nHowever, the Finnish growth story did not end there. Between 2016-2017, Nokia began drawing the attention of investors looking to bet on the 5G upgrade cycle that would likely start a couple of years later. The company’s network division had been struggling, but the management team believed in a turnaround as 5G infrastructure had to be built around the globe.\nTrue to its roots, unfortunately,Nokia disappointed yet again. In 2019, the company warned that its recovery was in jeopardy, as competition with Ericsson and Huawei for 5G contracts became too fierce for Nokia to handle. The company’s dividend payment was slashed, and a restructuring process began.\nMeme stock for a day\nFor the past five years, Nokia stock consistently traded between $3 and $5 per share, with the eventual spikes and dips in share price eventually correcting. The notable exception happened on January 27 of this year.\nOn that day, Nokia climbed to $6.55 per share, from only $3.87 two weeks earlier. The memo formally establishes the fight against corruption as a core national security interest.\nThe memo is important because it publicly notifies federal agencies that they need to \"up their anti-corruption game,\" said an administration official, speaking to reporters on background about the directive.\nThe memo directs a 200-day interagency review of how to improve anti-corruption measures, culminating in a report and recommendations to the president.\nThe official said major parts of the directive will be focused on financial crimes, including steps to modernize existing anti-corruption laws to confront cryptocurrencies and cybercrime.\n\"We are looking at crypto as a means of illicit finance,\" the official said, \"but by no means are these new steps limited to new technologies like crypto.\"\nThe official also said the effort would likely involve updates to the Bank Secrecy Act, the primary means by which law enforcement can track how money moves through financial institutions.\n\"We'll be looking for ideas of how to modernize these systems to respond to new technologies,\" the official said. The memo does not name individual countries, specific currencies or particular kinds of assets.\nAccording to the memo, the federal government will also \"robustly\" implement new rules established in January that require American companies to report their beneficial owner or owners to the Treasury Department. This is part of an effort aimed at \"reducing offshore financial secrecy; improving information sharing; and, as necessary, identifying the need for new reforms.\"\nThe memo also identifies the need to address strategic corruption by foreign entities and governments \"and their domestic collaborators\" in part by \"closing loopholes exploited by these actors to interfere in democratic processes in the United States and abroad.\"\nThis is a thinly veiled reference to efforts by Russia, Iran and other adversaries in recent years toexploit loopholes in the laws that govern foreign lobbying and political activitiesin order to fund disinformation campaigns and influence U.S. elections.\nThe anti-corruption fight is part of a broader shift underway toward a new \"foreign policy for the middle class.\" The strategy, devised in part by Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan, emphasizes how foreign policy and domestic policy can be integrated into a new middle ground between the traditional conservative and liberal approaches to global affairs.\nForeign policy for the middle class aims to ensure that globalization, trade, human rights and military might are all harnessed for the benefit of working Americans, not solely for billionaires and multinational corporations, but not for abstract ideological reasons either.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":222,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9013727481,"gmtCreate":1648778034797,"gmtModify":1676534396622,"author":{"id":"3585392435545471","authorId":"3585392435545471","name":"Yyyyyyyjjjjj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e77d3833e0671517bf2a769238d7d016","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585392435545471","authorIdStr":"3585392435545471"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a Subsequently, the index experienced some volatility and was largely rangebound.
\n
In late January, the market suffered a sell-off, which was blamed on the speculative behavior of retail investors.
\n
Although the market bounced back up fairly soon, another sell-off, orchestrated by tech meltdown, ensued in early March.
\n
After a broadly higher move until early May, the market retreated yet again but this time around the pullback was short-lived.
\n
The resilient market shot back up and is hovering near record territory despite macroeconomic worries overrising inflation.
\n
Apple In The Red:Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL), which is the most valued tech company, has had an unenterprising first half.
\n
Despite reporting stellar first-quarter results, as the iPhone 12 momentum spilled over past the holiday quarter, the shares are still down for the year-to-period.
\n
In comparison, Apple shares were solidly higher in the same period last year and ended 2020 as the top-performing FAANG stock.
\n
Apple's best comes out in the second half, be it its products or financial performance.
\n
Given that Apple is Apple, one cannot write it off yet. The likely launch of the next iteration of its iPhone in September could kickstart a rally in the second half.
\n

\n
Netflix Puts Up a Flop Show:Streaming giantNetflix, Inc.(NASDAQ:NFLX) is facing turbulence amid increasing competition, which has put pressure on its net subscriber addition.
\n
Additionally, tougher comparisons versus the lock-down induced strength in 2020 is serving as a dampener.
\n
The stock is still down for the year-to-date period vis-à-vis very strong performances for the first half of 2020 and the full year 2020.
\n
With \"Money Heist\" and \"The Witcher\" — two of Netflix' most successful shows — likely to return in the second half, subscriber numbers should look up in the fourth quarter, according to KeyBanc analyst Justin Patterson.
\n
Laggards Turn Leaders:Shares ofFacebook, Inc.(NASDAQ:FB) andAlphabet, Inc.(NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG), both of which had a single-digit gain percentage in the first half of 2020, are the best performers of the year-to-date period in 2021.
\n
Facebook has emerged stronger from the data scandal and the COVID-19 pandemic came at the right time, giving a lift to its user engagement.
\n
Daily active users rose 11% year-over-year to 1.84 billion at the end of 2020 and the monthly active user count was at 2.80 billion, up 12%.
\n
These increased further to 1.878 billion and 2.853 billion, respectively at the end of the first quarter of 2021.
\n
Google is thus far the best performing FAANG stocks, thanks to solid support from rising ad revenues from its core search business and its YouTube video platform.
\n
In addition to ad revenues, YouTube now collects subscription fees. The company also has a thriving cloud computing business.
\n
The sum-of-parts contribution of each of Google's businesses has given an enviable valuation for shares.
\n
Amazon Cools Off:Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN), which was the second-best performing FAANG in 2020, is barely in the green in the first half of 2021.
\n
This is despite the online retail giant turning in a stellar performance in the first quarter. Subsequently, the index experienced some volatility and was largely rangebound.\nIn late January, the market suffered a sell-off, which was blamed on the speculative behavior of retail investors.\nAlthough the market bounced back up fairly soon, another sell-off, orchestrated by tech meltdown, ensued in early March.\nAfter a broadly higher move until early May, the market retreated yet again but this time around the pullback was short-lived.\nThe resilient market shot back up and is hovering near record territory despite macroeconomic worries overrising inflation.\nApple In The Red:Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL), which is the most valued tech company, has had an unenterprising first half.\nDespite reporting stellar first-quarter results, as the iPhone 12 momentum spilled over past the holiday quarter, the shares are still down for the year-to-period.\nIn comparison, Apple shares were solidly higher in the same period last year and ended 2020 as the top-performing FAANG stock.\nApple's best comes out in the second half, be it its products or financial performance.\nGiven that Apple is Apple, one cannot write it off yet. The likely launch of the next iteration of its iPhone in September could kickstart a rally in the second half.\n\nNetflix Puts Up a Flop Show:Streaming giantNetflix, Inc.(NASDAQ:NFLX) is facing turbulence amid increasing competition, which has put pressure on its net subscriber addition.\nAdditionally, tougher comparisons versus the lock-down induced strength in 2020 is serving as a dampener.\nThe stock is still down for the year-to-date period vis-à-vis very strong performances for the first half of 2020 and the full year 2020.\nWith \"Money Heist\" and \"The Witcher\" — two of Netflix' most successful shows — likely to return in the second half, subscriber numbers should look up in the fourth quarter, according to KeyBanc analyst Justin Patterson.\nLaggards Turn Leaders:Shares ofFacebook, Inc.(NASDAQ:FB) andAlphabet, Inc.(NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG), both of which had a single-digit gain percentage in the first half of 2020, are the best performers of the year-to-date period in 2021.\nFacebook has emerged stronger from the data scandal and the COVID-19 pandemic came at the right time, giving a lift to its user engagement.\nDaily active users rose 11% year-over-year to 1.84 billion at the end of 2020 and the monthly active user count was at 2.80 billion, up 12%.\nThese increased further to 1.878 billion and 2.853 billion, respectively at the end of the first quarter of 2021.\nGoogle is thus far the best performing FAANG stocks, thanks to solid support from rising ad revenues from its core search business and its YouTube video platform.\nIn addition to ad revenues, YouTube now collects subscription fees. The company also has a thriving cloud computing business.\nThe sum-of-parts contribution of each of Google's businesses has given an enviable valuation for shares.\nAmazon Cools Off:Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN), which was the second-best performing FAANG in 2020, is barely in the green in the first half of 2021.\nThis is despite the online retail giant turning in a stellar performance in the first quarter. Amazon's core retail sales as well as its high-margin AWS cloud business and advertising all performed well in the quarter. On top of this, the company gave upbeat guidance for the second quarter.\nThe average analyst price target for Amazon is $4,238, suggesting roughly 24% upside from current levels. Amazon shares present a buying opportunity, barring any fundamental mishap, given its muted performance thus far this year.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":276,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":161927360,"gmtCreate":1623901838850,"gmtModify":1703823064081,"author":{"id":"3585392435545471","authorId":"3585392435545471","name":"Yyyyyyyjjjjj","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e77d3833e0671517bf2a769238d7d016","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3585392435545471","authorIdStr":"3585392435545471"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls like and comment back thanks ","listText":"Pls like and comment back thanks ","text":"Pls like and comment back thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/161927360","repostId":"2144270718","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144270718","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623879249,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2144270718?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-17 05:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Fed Sees Two Rate Hikes by End of 2023, Inches Towards Taper","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144270718","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Thirteen of 18 officials see at least one rate hike in 2023\nPowell says Fed to begin discussing scal","content":"
\n
Thirteen of 18 officials see at least one rate hike in 2023
\n
Powell says Fed to begin discussing scaling back bond buying
\n
\n
Federal Reserve officials sped up their expected pace of policy tightening amid optimism about the labor market and heightened concerns for inflation.
\n
Fed Chair Jerome Powell told a press conference Wednesday that officials would begin a discussion about scaling back bond purchases used to support financial markets and the economy during the pandemic.
\n
They also released forecasts that show they anticipate two interest-rate increases by the end of 2023 -- sooner than many thought -- and they upgraded estimates for inflation for the next three years.
\n
“The economy has clearly made progress,” Powell said after a two-day gathering of the Federal Open Market Committee. “You can think of this meeting as the talking-about-talking-about meeting, if you like,” he added, referring to the discussion about tapering purchases.
\n

\n
The central bank held the target range for its benchmark policy rate unchanged at zero to 0.25%, where it’s been since March 2020, and maintained the $120 billion pace of its monthly bond purchases. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 179.35 points to 34,756.39. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed with a nearly 1.5% rally to 13,814.49.\nThe major averages all registered modest gains for the week. The blue-chip Dow and the S&P 500 advanced about 0.7% and 0.6%, respectively, on the week for their second straight positive week. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained just shy of 0.5% this week for its third winning week in a row.\nThe U.S. economy added 559,000 jobs in May, the Labor Department said on Friday. The number came in slightly lower than an estimate of 671,000 from economists surveyed by Dow Jones, but still showed a healthy rebound in the labor market. It’s an improvement from the upwardly revised 278,000 payrolls added in April.\nThe unemployment rate fell to 5.8% from 6.1%, which was better than the estimate of 5.9%. Many believe the jobs report, while solid, is not strong enough to trigger the Federal Reserve to dial back its bond buying program.\nThe jobs number is “goldilocks for risk,” said John Briggs, global head of strategy at NatWest Markets. It’s “not too hot to bring in the Fed and not too cold to worry about the economy.”\nThe 10-year Treasury yield dipped slightly following the jobs report. Bond yields had jumped higher in recent months amid rising inflation expectations.\n“While the job gains were somewhat modest relative to expectations, the good news is the figure rebounded from last month’s disappointing miss,” said Charlie Ripley, vice president of portfolio management at Allianz Investment Management. “Overall, today’s report does provide progress in the right direction.”\nMeme stocks continued their wild prices swings on Friday, but this time to the downside.
