results in all segments, with its cloud computing and PC businesses growing as customers anticipate using it","content":"

Oct 24 (Reuters) - Microsoft on Tuesday beat Wall Street estimates for fiscal first-quarter results in all segments, with its cloud computing and PC businesses growing as customers anticipate using its artificial-intelligence offerings.

Its forecast also was mostly ahead of analyst targets.

Microsoft, which has heavily backed and collaborated with OpenAI, has yet to roll out most of the products based on its work with the ChatGPT creator. But enthusiasm among corporate technology buyers for features like the ability to summarize heaps of email into a few bullet points or speedily complete lines of computer code helped the company's revenue rise 13% to $56.5 billion in the quarter ended Sept. 30. That compares with analysts' consensus estimate of $54.52 billion, according to LSEG data.

"The results indicated that artificial intelligence products are stimulating sales and already contributing to top and bottom-line growth," said Jesse Cohen, senior analyst at Investing.com.

Microsoft shares were up 3.5% in after-hours trading.

In the reported quarter, revenue from Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud unit, which houses its Azure cloud-computing platform where much of the AI work will take place, grew to $24.3 billion, compared with analysts' estimate of $23.49 billion, LSEG data showed. Azure revenue rose 29%, higher than a 26.2% growth estimate from market research firm Visible Alpha.

Brett Iversen, Microsoft's vice president for investor relations, said much of the quarterly sales growth came from customers rekindling their use of Microsoft's cloud in anticipation of using AI services.

"What AI is doing ... is opening up either new conversations or extending existing conversations or getting us back in touch with customers that we maybe weren't doing as much with," Iversen told Reuters.

By comparison, Google-parent Alphabet's cloud division missed estimates for third-quarter revenue on Tuesday as an uncertain economy and high interest rates led its customers to trim their budgets.

"While a single quarter doesn’t a major trend make, this quarter’s cloud results from Microsoft and Google suggest that Azure is gaining share against its competition," said Bob O'Donnell, chief analyst at TECHnalysis Research. "It could be that Microsoft’s very strong messaging on their (AI) technology is getting companies to consider them in a more serious way."

Microsoft said fiscal first-quarter profit was $2.99 per share, above analyst estimates of $2.65 per share, according to LSEG data.

"There are some weaker areas; search advertising revenues, for one, is growing slower than most segments," said Jeremy Goldman of research firm Insider Intelligence.

Microsoft said search and news advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs increased by 10%. It does not break out the revenue figure for these operations.

Microsoft is weaving AI into its own products, such as the $30-a-month "Copilot" for its Microsoft 365 service that can summarize a day's worth of emails into a quick update. While the tool is being shown only to a small number of pilot customers until it becomes available next month, it requires businesses to make a number of upgrades to their Microsoft-based systems in order to use Copilot.

Investors are also tracking how much Microsoft spends on the massive data centers to power AI software. Microsoft said on Tuesday that fiscal first-quarter capital expenditures were $11.2 billion, up from $10.7 billion in the previous quarter, which itself was the biggest spend since at least fiscal 2016. Fool","summary":"These three pandemic powerhouses all saw share prices skyrocket by 10x or more in the past decade, though two have since come back down to Earth.","content":"

The legendary 10-bagger -- a stock that delivers 10 times the return on its purchase price -- remains a fairly rare event in modern markets. And the pandemic drove instability across many different industries, with deep plunges in some sectors and others seeing new interest and investment due to their offerings.

These three companies experienced new highs since the beginning of the global pandemic, making an investment in the last decade truly pay off -- at least, to a certain point. $10,000 invested in Apple in early 2013 delivered 10-bagger results at recent highs. Likewise, a $10,000 investment in Netflix shares in mid-2014 at less than $70 soared to over $700 by late 2021. Roku also saw new highs with its shares hitting $400 versus the $40 they sold for at the end of 2018.

However, what goes up also sometimes goes down -- as it did for two of these stocks. Let's take a closer look at all three -- and see what could be in store for their shares from here.

Apple dominates with innovation, iPhones, and India

The king of the smartphone market continues innovating with each iteration of its popular iPhone line. Accessories and services drive the company's App Store and offerings further into the lifestyles and pockets of consumers. The pandemic may have boosted sales, but Apple continues to perform well even as the global economy has reopened.

At a recent share price of $170, the stock isn't far off its 52-week high of $183. Over the past six months, the smartphone maker has moved roughly in tandem with the S&P 500, outperforming it by 4 percentage points over that period.

Apple may have a catalyst overseas, however. The huge economy of India seems ready to consume Apple products as its smartphone adoption levels take off. The company grew its smartphone shipments to India by 108% year-over-year in 2021, making it one of the fastest growing brands in the region, and Counterpoint Research expects continued growth throughout 2022.

Stay-at-home orders drove Netflix to new heights

Streaming powerhouse Netflix brought entertainment to millions of viewers stuck at home during the depths of the pandemic. It delivered 10-bagger results for many long-term shareholders who got in during the past decade, but Netflix failed to hold onto much of those gains as cities and markets reopened.

The streaming company's stock currently trails the S&P 500 by more than 35 percentage points over the past six months, making it one of the worst performers in the index so far this year.

Some investors may see this dip as a buying opportunity, but the company has yet to assure the broader market of its recovery. Long-term, Netflix has shown great resilience, but a potential recession may limit its growth in the near future.

Roku's pandemic power now wanes

Roku hasn't fared much better than Netflix when it comes to proving itself after recent all-time highs. While there are more Roku devices in homes worldwide than ever, and the company posted total net revenue growth of 18% year over year in its second-quarter 2022 earnings report, the stock continues to lag the S&P 500 by 45 percentage points.

The horizon doesn't seem so bleak for this previous 10-bagger, though. Recent partnerships with Walmart and Paramount could deliver the catalysts that, when coupled with strong earnings growth and guidance, may bring Roku share prices back in line with its previous successes. The company may even reach previous highs if share prices rise to reflect continued success through its partnerships.

The future of home and mobile entertainment

Smart investors know that profits can be made in bear markets, and bear-market investments can generate wealth when the bulls take control. Apple remains in a strong position and could be a dividend leader, while both Netflix and Roku could well stay near lows before seeing a return to previous levels.

Current market conditions provide a great opportunity to get in on these stocks at a much lower price point than during the onset of the pandemic, with its stay-at-home orders and boost to home entertainment. Never try to time the bottom of the market -- instead, focus on quality and long-term potential, especially when a recession could be looming. Consider the overall strength and position of these companies before making a leap during uncertain times.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks That Turned $10,000 Into $100,000 (or More)
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks That Turned $10,000 Into $100,000 (or More)\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-19 13:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The legendary 10-bagger -- a stock that delivers 10 times the return on its purchase price -- remains a fairly rare event in modern markets. The S&P's technology index fell 2.7% while consumer discretionary fell 2%.

Several Fed officials spoke publicly about battling high inflation with Lael Brainard the latest, and most senior, U.S. central banker signaling that the Fed was getting ready to start raising rates in March.

Other officials, including Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, talked about the need for tighter policy while Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker also discussed a March rate hike after San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly had mentioned a March lift-off late on Wednesday.

"When Brainard says we've got to do something, they're going do something," said Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial Network, an independent broker-dealer in Waltham, Mass. He said Brainard's comments were particularly striking coming from one of the Fed's most dovish officials.

"There doesn’t seem to be much debate left within the Fed about what direction they’re going, and not even much about how fast they should get there," he added.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 176.7 points, or 0.49%, to 36,113.62, the S&P 500 lost 67.32 points, or 1.42%, to 4,659.03 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 381.58 points to 14,806.81.

Nasdaq's decline its biggest one-day percentage loss since Jan. 5 when it fell 3.4% in a single session after hawkish Fed minutes were released for the December meeting. It did not help that Thursday's rate hike talk had followed the technology-laden Nasdaq's 1.7% advance in this week's first three sessions.

Even though U.S. Treasury 10-year yields fell on Thursday, investors focused on profit taking, said Sameer Samana, senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute in St. Louis.

"We had a pretty nice rebound in the Nasdaq the last few days, so there might just be some lingering nervousness around rates the Fed and some profit taking, especially ahead of earnings," said the strategist.

Samana described Brainard's comments as "a psychological hit to those hoping that there was some dissent to starting rate hikes sooner rather than later."

Wells Fargo followed Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank in forecasting that the Fed might raise interest rates four times this year.

Adding some anxiety for investors, U.S. companies are due to report results on the final quarter of 2021 in the coming weeks with banks JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo set to start the ball rolling on Friday, while big technology companies report next week.

Year-over-year earnings growth from S&P 500 companies were expected to be lower in the fourth quarter compared with the first three quarters but still strong at 22.4%, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

Retail investors have also raised their exposure to bank stocks ahead of the earnings announcements, according to Vanda Research's weekly report on retail flows.

Delta Air Lines closed up 2% at $41.47 after beating estimates for fourth-quarter earnings. Its chief executive also predicted a swift recovery from turbulence caused by the Omicron coronavirus variant, also helping to lift the S&P 1500 Airlines index 2.6% for the day.

Earlier Data showed the producer price index (PPI) rose 0.2% last month after advancing 0.8% in November while in the 12 months through December, the PPI rose 9.7% versus the 9.8% forecast of economists polled by Reuters.

The PPI figures come a day after Wall Street indexes cheered consumer inflation numbers that hit a 40-year high but largely met market expectations.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.27-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 2.24-to-1 ratio favored decliners.

The S&P 500 posted 44 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 75 new highs and 360 new lows.

On U.S. exchanges 10.43 billion shares changed hands compared with the 10.39 billion average over the last 20 sessions.

","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The S&P's technology index fell 2.7% while consumer discretionary fell 2%.Several Fed officials spoke publicly about battling high inflation with Lael Brainard the latest, and most senior, U.S. central banker signaling that the Fed was getting ready to start raising rates in March.Other officials, including Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, talked about the need for tighter policy while Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker also discussed a March rate hike after San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly had mentioned a March lift-off late on Wednesday.\"When Brainard says we've got to do something, they're going do something,\" said Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial Network, an independent broker-dealer in Waltham, Mass. He said Brainard's comments were particularly striking coming from one of the Fed's most dovish officials.\"There doesn’t seem to be much debate left within the Fed about what direction they’re going, and not even much about how fast they should get there,\" he added. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 176.7 points, or 0.49%, to 36,113.62, the S&P 500 lost 67.32 points, or 1.42%, to 4,659.03 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 381.58 points to 14,806.81.Nasdaq's decline its biggest one-day percentage loss since Jan. 5 when it fell 3.4% in a single session after hawkish Fed minutes were released for the December meeting. It did not help that Thursday's rate hike talk had followed the technology-laden Nasdaq's 1.7% advance in this week's first three sessions.Even though U.S. Treasury 10-year yields fell on Thursday, investors focused on profit taking, said Sameer Samana, senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute in St. Louis.\"We had a pretty nice rebound in the Nasdaq the last few days, so there might just be some lingering nervousness around rates the Fed and some profit taking, especially ahead of earnings,\" said the strategist.Samana described Brainard's comments as \"a psychological hit to those hoping that there was some dissent to starting rate hikes sooner rather than later.\"Wells Fargo followed Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank in forecasting that the Fed might raise interest rates four times this year.Adding some anxiety for investors, U.S. companies are due to report results on the final quarter of 2021 in the coming weeks with banks JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo set to start the ball rolling on Friday, while big technology companies report next week.Year-over-year earnings growth from S&P 500 companies were expected to be lower in the fourth quarter compared with the first three quarters but still strong at 22.4%, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.Retail investors have also raised their exposure to bank stocks ahead of the earnings announcements, according to Vanda Research's weekly report on retail flows.Delta Air Lines closed up 2% at $41.47 after beating estimates for fourth-quarter earnings. Its chief executive also predicted a swift recovery from turbulence caused by the Omicron coronavirus variant, also helping to lift the S&P 1500 Airlines index 2.6% for the day.Earlier Data showed the producer price index (PPI) rose 0.2% last month after advancing 0.8% in November while in the 12 months through December, the PPI rose 9.7% versus the 9.8% forecast of economists polled by Reuters. The PPI figures come a day after Wall Street indexes cheered consumer inflation numbers that hit a 40-year high but largely met market expectations.Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.27-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 2.24-to-1 ratio favored decliners. The S&P 500 posted 44 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 75 new highs and 360 new lows.On U.S. exchanges 10.43 billion shares changed hands compared with the 10.39 billion average over the last 20 sessions.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":185,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9026089656,"gmtCreate":1653296624375,"gmtModify":1676535255597,"author":{"id":"3585533321890062","authorId":"3585533321890062","name":"Keatchong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/962d8182c1d59790b14d50d1b5eb494f","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585533321890062","idStr":"3585533321890062"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$For short term how to see this stock, can comment?","listText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$For short term how to see this stock, can comment?","text":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$For short term how to see this stock, can comment?","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/c9565b86cffd31fafa9b0b3987cf03bf","width":"1125","height":"4099"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9026089656","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":291,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9065858681,"gmtCreate":1652175715643,"gmtModify":1676535046047,"author":{"id":"3585533321890062","authorId":"3585533321890062","name":"Keatchong","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/962d8182c1d59790b14d50d1b5eb494f","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585533321890062","idStr":"3585533321890062"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great!!!!!","listText":"Great!!!!!","text":"Great!!!!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9065858681","repostId":"2234665417","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2234665417","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1652175546,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2234665417?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-10 17:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2234665417","media":"Reuters","summary":"Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles.","content":"

Tesla is Recalling 129,960 Units Of Certain 2021-2022 Model S, Model X, And 2022 Model 3 And Model Y Vehicles.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
