believes in buying and holding stakes in great businesses for a really long time, look no further than Warren Buffett's track record. As CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B), Buffett has led his company to an average annual return of 20% since taking the helm in 1965. Through 2020, this worked out to an aggregate return of more than 2,800,000%, and it's created over $500 billion in value for Berkshire Hathaway's shareholders.
\n
Like all investors, Buffett isn't infallible. He's going to make mistakes from time to time. But he and his investing team have a knack for locating companies with plain-as-day sustainable competitive advantages. As the summer temperatures heat up, the following three Warren Buffett stocks stand out as screaming buys.
\n
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.
\n
Amazon
\n
Was there ever any doubt that Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) wouldn't be a screaming buy? Even though it's a stock that was added by Buffett's investing lieutenants (Todd Combs and Ted Weschler) and not the Oracle of Omaha himself, it's nevertheless one of the most attractive holdings in Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio.
\n
As a lot of folks are probably aware, Amazon is the king of the hill when it comes online commerce. This year, the company's marketplace is expected to control roughly $0.40 of every $1 spent online in the United States, according to an April report from eMarketer. The next closest competitor is Walmart, which'll handle about 7% of all U.S. online retail.
\n
Amazon has been able to pivot its incredible online retail success into signing up more than 200 million people worldwide to a Prime membership. While Prime members enjoy free two-day shipping and access to streaming content, the lure for Amazon is that Prime fees generate tens of billions in added revenue that it can use to undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price and buoy its margins.
\n
What you might not realize about Amazon is that it's overwhelmingly dominant in a second industry, as well. Amazon Web Services (AWS) brought in 32% of global cloud infrastructure spending in the first quarter, per Canalys. Cloud infrastructure is still, arguably, in the early innings of its expansion, and it's a considerably higher margin segment for Amazon than retail or advertising. Thus, AWS is going to send Amazon's operating cash flow to the moon as it grows into a larger percentage of total sales.
\n
For the past 11 years, Wall Street and investors have consistently valued Amazon at a multiple of 23 to 37 times its cash flow. If this range remains intact, a near-tripling in the stock is possible by mid-decade.
\n
\n
Bristol Myers Squibb
\n
If value investing suits you better, pharmaceutical stock Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY) has the makings of a screaming summer buy.
\n
The great thing about healthcare stocks is they're highly defensive. Since we don't get to choose when we get sick or what ailments we develop, there's a consistent demand for healthcare services, drugs, and devices, no matter how well or poorly the U.S. and global economy are performing.
\n
What makes Bristol Myers Squibb such a special company is its organic growth potential and astute dealmaking. To tackle the former, Bristol Myers and Pfizer co-developed the world's leading oral anticoagulant, Eliquis, which looks to be on pace for more than $10 billion in sales this year for Bristol. There's also cancer immunotherapy Opdivo, which is being examined in dozens of ongoing clinical trials. Opdivo is already bringing in about $7 billion annually, and could push higher with continued label expansion opportunities. All told, eight brand-name therapies are on track for at least $1.2 billion in annual sales this year, based on extrapolated Q1 sales totals.
\n
On the dealmaking front, Bristol Myers Squibb hit a home run when it acquired cancer and immunology drugmaker Celgene in 2019. Celgene's superstar is multiple myeloma drug Revlimid, which brought in $12.1 billion in sales last year and has been growing by a double-digit percentage annually for more than a decade. Longer duration of use, label expansions, improved cancer screening diagnostics, and strong pricing power have all fueled Revlimid's growth. Best of all, it's protected from a large wave of generic competition until the end of January 2026. This means Bristol Myers will be basking in significant cash flow for another 4.5 years.
\n
In a world where valuation premiums are soaring, it seems unjust that a company so profitable should be valued at only 8.5 times Wall Street's consensus earnings for 2022.
\n
\n
General Motors
\n
Lastly, if you want a screaming summer buy that's near and dear to Warren Buffett's investment philosophy, consider auto stock General Motors (NYSE:GM).
\n
Historically, auto stocks are slow-growing companies that sports high levels of debt and are valued at price-to-earnings multiples that are well below the average S&P 500 company. But General Motors and its peers are the verge of taking advantage of an epic vehicle replacement cycle as consumers and businesses make the shift to electric vehicles (EV).
\n
Initially, General Motors was going to devote $20 billion to EV investment by mid-decade. However, in November, the company upped its expected outlay to $27 billion by 2025, with the ultimate goal of bringing 30 new EVs to market globally. Some of this capital will be used to bring EVs to market earlier than initially planned, as well as to develop GM's battery technology. With IHS Markit forecasting that 10% of all U.S. vehicle sales will be electric by 2025 (up from 1.8% in 2020), a hefty investment in this changing landscape makes sense for GM.
\n
Equally important are the company's ambitions overseas -- especially in China, the largest auto market in the world. By 2035, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China anticipates that half of all vehicle sales will be some form of alternative energy. Through the first-half of 2021, GM delivered more than 1.5 million vehicles in China. With an established presence, existing infrastructure, and well-known branding, GM has a real shot at becoming an EV leader in China.
\n
A forward-year price-to-earnings ratio of 8 simply doesn't convey the multi-decade growth opportunity that's on GM's doorstep.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Warren Buffett Stocks That Are Screaming Summer Buys
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Warren Buffett Stocks That Are Screaming Summer Buys\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-26 19:26 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
If you've ever wondered why Wall Street pays such close attention to 90-year-old investor who believes in buying and holding stakes in great businesses for a really long time, look no further than ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BRK.A":"伯克希尔","AMZN":"亚马逊","BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","BMY":"施贵宝","GM":"通用汽车"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/07/26/3-warren-buffett-stocks-are-screaming-summer-buys/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2154957883","content_text":"If you've ever wondered why Wall Street pays such close attention to 90-year-old investor who believes in buying and holding stakes in great businesses for a really long time, look no further than Warren Buffett's track record. That day, t","content":"
After hibernating for months, the stock-market bears came out of their caves on July 19. That day, the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA,-0.42%tumbled 725 points or 2.1%. The bears hit a home run — at least for a day.
\n
As usual, everyone wanted to know why the market fell, and the analysts had prepared answers, from COVID-19’s Delta variant to the Consumer Price Index to overbought technical indicators.
\n
The truth is that nobody knows. People have multiple reasons for selling, so it’s ridiculous to blame one event. That said, a big contributor to the decline was automatic, computer-generated selling. Once large market participants, especially algos, started selling, there was a mad rush out of the door. No one wanted to be the last one out, so retail traders and institutions sold in a panic, which got more intense as the day went on.
\n
Technical indicators contributed as well: The weekly relative strength indicator (RSI) has been remarkably accurate in warning of a market reversal. Once RSI goes over 70 and stays there, buyers beware. After the July 26 market close, the RSI of the S&P 500SPX,-0.54%stood at 71.36 on the weekly chart — an extremely overbought reading. Does this mean that the index is going to plunge tomorrow? No one knows. But RSI is giving a clue that the U.S. market is in the danger zone.
\n
The bad news bears can’t catch a break
\n
Before the bears could say, “I told you so,” the next day, July 20, the 700-plus point Dow selloff was erased by a 550-point Dow rally. The bulls forgot about the selloff and returned to celebrating, and gulping glass after glass of their favorite drink, “bull-ade.” Once again, the storm passed, but this time a little fear creeped into the bulls’ psyche. Before, the only fear was the fear of missing out on the next rally. Now, many investors realize the market can actually go down.
\n
What to do now
\n
The next time the market plunges and you’re experiencing a variety of emotions, the following guide might help:
\n
1. If you’re panicked: Don’t do something; sit there. Do not buy, do not sell, just sit tight. In fact, turn off the computer or other devices. Don’t fret over how much paper money you lost that day. Exercise, walk, run, swim, ride a bike. Your goal is to reduce emotions so you can get a good night’s sleep. When the market stabilizes, reevaluate what you own. Do not make any big financial decisions on days like this.
\n
2. If you’re afraid: Take it easy. The selloff will end eventually. There is no reason to panic. Again, reevaluate what you own when the market comes to its senses.
\n
3. If you’re unaffected:Still, check your portfolio to make sure you are properly diversified. While it’s find to not care if the market falls, be sure you are hedged for a worst-case scenario. One day there will be a bear market that will last months or years. Be prepared.
\n
What specific actions should you take?
\n
Now that you’ve taken care of your emotional health, there are other financial decisions you can make. Let’s take a look atsome strategies and tacticsthat may help:
\n
\n
Sell if the stocks or indexes you own fall below their 200-day moving averages. Note: The major indexes such as the Standard & Poor’s 500SPX,-0.54%have not fallen below (and stayed below) their 200-day averages for a decade. When they do eventually, that is a clear sell signal.
\n
Create a long-term investment plan and follow it no matter what happens in the short term.
\n
Dollar-cost average into index funds.
\n
Diversify. This is the key to success in the stock market and in life. If you own only stocks, consider bonds, but talk to a financial professional (not your neighbor) before taking this step.
\n
Buy the big dips. This strategy still works. If you had bought the dip on July 19, you would have cleaned up on July 20. One day this strategy won’t work, but that day hasn’t come yet.
\n
Sell covered-call options. This is still an excellent way to generate extra income. This strategy is also ideal for disposing of unwanted stocks, and getting paid for it.
\n
\n
Plan for the next correction or bear market
\n
After a 13-year bull market, the clock is ticking for U.S. stocks. That day, the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA,-0.42%tumbled 725 points or 2.1%. The bears hit a home run — at least for a day.\nAs usual, everyone wanted to know why the market fell, and the analysts had prepared answers, from COVID-19’s Delta variant to the Consumer Price Index to overbought technical indicators.\nThe truth is that nobody knows. People have multiple reasons for selling, so it’s ridiculous to blame one event. That said, a big contributor to the decline was automatic, computer-generated selling. Once large market participants, especially algos, started selling, there was a mad rush out of the door. No one wanted to be the last one out, so retail traders and institutions sold in a panic, which got more intense as the day went on.\nTechnical indicators contributed as well: The weekly relative strength indicator (RSI) has been remarkably accurate in warning of a market reversal. But RSI is giving a clue that the U.S. market is in the danger zone.\nThe bad news bears can’t catch a break\nBefore the bears could say, “I told you so,” the next day, July 20, the 700-plus point Dow selloff was erased by a 550-point Dow rally. The bulls forgot about the selloff and returned to celebrating, and gulping glass after glass of their favorite drink, “bull-ade.” Once again, the storm passed, but this time a little fear creeped into the bulls’ psyche. Before, the only fear was the fear of missing out on the next rally. Now, many investors realize the market can actually go down.\nWhat to do now\nThe next time the market plunges and you’re experiencing a variety of emotions, the following guide might help:\n1. Do not make any big financial decisions on days like this.\n2. If you’re afraid: Take it easy. The selloff will end eventually. There is no reason to panic. Again, reevaluate what you own when the market comes to its senses.\n3. If you’re unaffected:Still, check your portfolio to make sure you are properly diversified. While it’s find to not care if the market falls, be sure you are hedged for a worst-case scenario. One day there will be a bear market that will last months or years. Be prepared.\nWhat specific actions should you take?\nNow that you’ve taken care of your emotional health, there are other financial decisions you can make. Let’s take a look atsome strategies and tacticsthat may help:\n\nSell if the stocks or indexes you own fall below their 200-day moving averages. Note: The major indexes such as the Standard & Poor’s 500SPX,-0.54%have not fallen below (and stayed below) their 200-day averages for a decade. When they do eventually, that is a clear sell signal.\nCreate a long-term investment plan and follow it no matter what happens in the short term.\nDollar-cost average into index funds.\nDiversify. This is the key to success in the stock market and in life. If you own only stocks, consider bonds, but talk to a financial professional (not your neighbor) before taking this step.\nBuy the big dips. This strategy still works. If you had bought the dip on July 19, you would have cleaned up on July 20. One day this strategy won’t work, but that day hasn’t come yet.\nSell covered-call options. This is still an excellent way to generate extra income. This strategy is also ideal for disposing of unwanted stocks, and getting paid for it.\n\nPlan for the next correction or bear market\nAfter a 13-year bull market, the clock is ticking for U.S. stocks. While the bulls scored another victory this time, one day the market won’t reverse direction and will begin a steep correction, or worse yet, a bear market. That’s when you will be glad that you have a plan and an investment script to follow on the worst days.\nKnow what you own, sell to the “sleep-well” point and diversify into a variety of financial products including cash and bonds. This way, when the market plunges again, you won’t make knee-jerk emotional decisions or suffer an anxiety attack.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":22,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":803987454,"gmtCreate":1627401552178,"gmtModify":1703489329259,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi","listText":"Hi","text":"Hi","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/803987454","repostId":"1108849761","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":8,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":886305029,"gmtCreate":1631547824961,"gmtModify":1676530573622,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To da sun!!!","listText":"To da sun!!!","text":"To da sun!!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/82d36bf1af68a30ecfc2586c1bc7981a","width":"1080","height":"3216"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/886305029","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":126,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":815597873,"gmtCreate":1630687113492,"gmtModify":1676530377606,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To da sun!!!","listText":"To da sun!!!","text":"To da sun!!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85013dd2a87315207c4f045f4c90f7fd","width":"1080","height":"3216"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/815597873","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":163,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":819532826,"gmtCreate":1630076434265,"gmtModify":1676530219172,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To da sun!!!","listText":"To da sun!!!","text":"To da sun!!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/428f25399e400486ecf0098899c8eb60","width":"1080","height":"2201"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/819532826","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":76,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":897567491,"gmtCreate":1628945388113,"gmtModify":1676529897845,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi","listText":"Hi","text":"Hi","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/897567491","repostId":"1144073354","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1144073354","pubTimestamp":1628904044,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1144073354?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-14 09:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow, S&P End Week at Record Highs. Let’s hope we avoid the kind of excitement that followed.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":15,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":897567802,"gmtCreate":1628945373406,"gmtModify":1676529897837,"author":{"id":"3585997004102901","authorId":"3585997004102901","name":"小韭菜_27","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4d34baf6393f3a1aa7bcc56f9b7731a1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hi","listText":"Hi","text":"Hi","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/897567802","repostId":"1173847412","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1173847412","pubTimestamp":1628905097,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1173847412?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-14 09:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"If you’re nervous about the stock market at record highs, consider these five companies that are loved by the smart money","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1173847412","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Company insiders and professional investors are buying shares of Alibaba, Chegg and Activision Blizzard, among others. Next, the economy has plenty of room to grow given the elevated jobless rate and big excess lending capacity at banks.
\n
Five smart money stocks
\n
At my stock letter Brush Up on Stocks, I favor stocks that corporate insiders like. But not just any insiders. I go for stocks picked up by insiders with great records. Here are two, trading near where insiders just bought.
\n
Activision Blizzard
\n
This is the company behind the most popular and addictive online games — like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and Candy Crush.Activision Blizzard makes money via game sales and subscriptions, by selling in-game content and ads. It has around 408 million regular users.
\n
Besides winning over new fans, the company regularly launches new games and expands existing franchises — most recently with World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, in June. This addition marks “the start of what is intended to be a very significant 18-month period for content releases,” says the company. Sales grew 19% to $2.30 billion in the second quarter, and operating margins are rich at 42%.
\n
One risk is that fallout from allegations of sexual misconduct and a related lawsuit by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing will “make it difficult for the firm to attract and retain top talent in a very competitive industry,” says Morningstar analyst Neil Macker.
\n
The smart money signal: Director Peter Nolan just bought $2 million worth at $80-$82.28 a share. He’s a good insider to follow because he bought $4.3 million in March 2019 at $43 and the stock is now almost a double. Also, in my system of insider analysis, repeat buying on strength (as opposed to profit taking) is bullish. He also bought at $3.70 back in 2004.
\n
B. Riley Financial
\n
I introduced this name in my stock letter in March 2018 at $20 and reiterated it over a dozen times into strength after that. It now trades for over $65. Despite the hefty gains, I think B. Riley Financia is still a hold, and a buy for anyone who does not own.
\n
This is a Los Angeles-based investment bank that also manages money and does stock research. It specializes in small- and mid-cap stocks. B. Riley Financial is a good proxy for the overall market and the U.S. economy, given its banking and market-related businesses. This will be a plus, as economic growth holds up. It also continues to expand via acquisitions. Revenue grew 26% in the second quarter to $336.8 million, in part because of an acquisition. It pays a 2.9% dividend yield.
\n
The smart money signal: CEO Bryant Riley purchased $3.4 million worth of stock at $63 to $68 in early June and August. He has a long record of buying over $22 million worth of stock in the $8 to $48 range since 2014, including $6.6 million in purchases near the start of this year at $46 to $48.71 (already up over 40%).
\n
Alibaba Group
\n
If you like to buy quality companies whose stocks are beaten down by a host of problems, then Chinese consumer platform Alibaba Group may be for you.
\n
Its shares are down 40% since October because of rising U.S.-China tensions, some weakness in its core consumer business, the possible loss of tax breaks in China, and allegations of sexual assault inside the company.
\n
These are serious issues, but this is also a company with serious potential. Over one billion consumers use its marketplaces, including 891 million in China and 240 million abroad. Organic sales growth is 32%. It’s in the early stages of rolling out its AliCloud cloud computing business, which could be the next big growth driver.
\n
The smart money signal: This company is singled out by Albert Meyer of Bastiat Capital, which has posted 22% annualized growth over the past five years compared to 17.7% for the S&P 500.
\n
An attractive spinoff
\n
One tactic that works fairly consistently in investing is buying spinoffs. Companies don’t like to burn shareholders, so they tend to do spinoffs at a discount, as a kind of “gift.” Money managers who get spun-off shares often dump them anyway, because the new company does not fit their mandate.
\n
A good spinoff to consider right now is Organon,a mid-size pharma company. It was jettisoned from Merck in May. Organon just bounced 12% on Aug. 12 after it posted a solid quarter, but it still trades below the spinoff price of around $38. At this level, the stock looks attractively cheap, trading near five times 2021 earnings.
\n
Of course, Organon is cheap because it has issues. The chief one is the looming patent cliff on many of its products. Its Nexplanon birth control rolls off patent during 2025-2027, and that’s 11% of sales.
\n
But this might not be such a threat. “There is a strong possibility that it can extend its patent to as late as 2030,” says Bruce Kaser, a value investor who is the editor of the Cabot Turnaround Letter. Nexplanon is a rod implanted under the skin, so women may be reluctant to go with a discount version. Another problem: Organon sells into China, where the government is cutting the prices of its products. But the worst of the damage may be over.
\n
On the upside, Organon plans to regularly launch new products. And the company has $1.3 billion in annual free cash flow supporting a dividend yield of 3.3%.
\n
The smart money signal: Organon was recently suggested in the Cabot Turnaround Letter, which has a good record. Its portfolio is up 135.8% in the past 12 months, compared with 36.5% for S&P 500.
\n
An education play
\n
If universities have allowed their participation in the culture wars to distract them from the core mission of basic education,Chegg is there to pick up the slack.
\n
This online education company helps college and high school students master their math and writing skills. The company also helps students save on expensive text books by offering rentals and e-textbook versions.
\n
While online education has a black eye, Chegg is the exception. Last year student subscriptions jumped 67% to 6.6 million from a year earlier. Sales grew 30% in the quarter, and the company guided to 28% sales growth for this year, to $805 million to $815 million.
\n
“Online learning had a bad reputation for overcharging, while success rates were minimal,” says money manager Kevin Landis. “But Chegg is different.”
\n
He likes the robust growth in the U.S. and the big potential for international growth, particularly in Asia.
\n
The smart money signal: Landis’ Firsthand Technology Opportunities beats its Morningstar technology fund category by eight percentage points annualized over the past five years. Chegg is the second-largest position, at 8% of the portfolio. Chegg is the sixth-biggest holding of the Alger Weatherbie Specialized Growth Fund, which beats its mid-cap growth category by 5.7 percentage points annualized over the past five years.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
If you’re nervous about the stock market at record highs, consider these five companies that are loved by the smart money
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIf you’re nervous about the stock market at record highs, consider these five companies that are loved by the smart money\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-14 09:38 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Company insiders and professional investors are buying shares of Alibaba, Chegg and Activision Blizzard, among others\n(Photo by Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images)\nThe stock market is near all-time highs, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"OGN":"Organon & Co","ATVI":"动视暴雪","CHGG":"Chegg Inc","BABA":"阿里巴巴","RILY":"B. It’s one of two “yellow warning lights” he sees, with the second being the way high-yield spreads have become “stickier” at higher levels.
\n
“August has a history of volatility spikes, more so than one might think,” Purves wrote in a note dated on Sunday. “This rising tension is subtle, and we suggest it has more to do with Covid persistence than with earnings reports, which on the whole have been remarkably strong so far.”
\n

\n
It isn’t just the VIX that’s flashing concern. S&P 500 skew, which measures the cost of bearish options versus bullish ones, is at its highest level since the beginning of the pandemic a year and a half ago -- even as the S&P 500 soars to records. While the VIX/S&P 500 inverse correlation remains relatively stable, and the VIX itself closed last week below historical averages, there’s still plenty of nervousness about. Investors may need to be wary for the sort of oddball “stocks-up, vol-up” scenario that manifested in the lead-up to February 2018’s Volmageddon, or last August’s retail-investor-driven tech rally.
\n
August and September are the worst months by average S&P 500 performance over the previous 30 years, Susquehanna derivatives strategists pointed out in a recent note.
\n
Other volatility signals have also been showing higher lows in the past few weeks, including the ICE BofA MOVE Index, which measures Treasury-option swings, and the JPMorgan Global FX Volatility Index.
\n
“There is worry but we are nowhere near peak worry,” said RBC’s Amy Wu Silverman. It’s one of two “yellow warning lights” he sees, with the second being the way high-yield spreads have become “stickier” at higher levels.\n“August has a history of volatility spikes, more so than one might think,” Purves wrote in a note dated on Sunday. “This rising tension is subtle, and we suggest it has more to do with Covid persistence than with earnings reports, which on the whole have been remarkably strong so far.”\n\nIt isn’t just the VIX that’s flashing concern. Investors may need to be wary for the sort of oddball “stocks-up, vol-up” scenario that manifested in the lead-up to February 2018’s Volmageddon, or last August’s retail-investor-driven tech rally.\nAugust and September are the worst months by average S&P 500 performance over the previous 30 years, Susquehanna derivatives strategists pointed out in a recent note.\nOther volatility signals have also been showing higher lows in the past few weeks, including the ICE BofA MOVE Index, which measures Treasury-option swings, and the JPMorgan Global FX Volatility Index.\n“There is worry but we are nowhere near peak worry,” said RBC’s Amy Wu Silverman. She pointed to bearish put options on the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (ticker XRT) looking expensive versus those on other ETFs, and suggested that’s “due to the delta variant and back-to-school sensitivity.”\nNeither Silverman nor Purves sees hedging the S&P 500 as the way to go right now, though, because it’s relatively expensive to do so. Silverman suggests selling Amazon.com Inc. October $3,100 puts as a hedge against further surges in the delta-variant.
