As Amazon founder Jeff Bezos believes, the focus should be on what stays the same, as opposed to what we think might change in the future.
\n
This means that sticking to boring, steady, and predictable companies can be a worthwhile strategy. Fitting this description, here are three stocks you can keep forever.
\n
\n
1. Costco Wholesale
\n
Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST), with its 809 warehouses around the world, generated sales of $44.4 billion in the most recent quarter, a 21.7% jump from the prior-year period. As one of the world's largest retailers, Costco was a mission-critical business during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Consumers visited stores to shop for everything from cleaning supplies to food.
\n
The company's operations haven't changed much over time, and they likely won't anytime soon. Even e-commerce sales, which expanded rapidly over the past year and grew 41.2% in the most recent quarter, are slowing down. During the month of May, online revenue rose just 12.1%, signaling that shoppers are able and willing to transact more in person now.
\n
Costco is a recession-proof business that does well in good and bad economic times, which provides the safety investors want in a forever stock. Moreover, the reliance on membership fees, of which Costco generated $901 million last quarter, allows the company to keep prices very low. As of March 31, Costco had 109.8 million membership cardholders.
\n
Costco has and will continue to gain from its relentless focus to pass on savings to customers. This consumer-friendly fixation makes it difficult for rivals to compete and makes the business that much more loved by its shoppers.
\n
2. Home Depot
\n
Home Depot (NYSE:HD) has grown to a $331 billion business because people love to spend on their homes. Again, this facet of human nature will never change, and it was on full display over the past year. Home Depot's revenue in fiscal 2020 increased 19.9%, the fastest annual gain in at least a decade. As consumers spent more time indoors and shifted spending away from travel, entertainment, and leisure, Home Depot benefited greatly.
\n
And even as we slowly recover from the pandemic, the momentum is still strong. Same-store sales (or comps) in the most recent quarter shot up 31%, continuing an acceleration over the past four quarters. The housing market is on fire, supported by still historically low interest rates and rising home prices, all of which support demand for Home Depot's products.
\n
The company serves both do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional (Pro) customers. The former outperformed during 2020, but the latter is reemerging as a real growth driver as people require work on bigger projects and are more comfortable allowing contractors into their homes. Additionally, a seamless omnichannel approach allows customers to shop Home Depot in whatever manner they like. In the most recent quarter, 55% of online orders were actually fulfilled at a store.
\n
Home Depot paid $1.8 billion in dividends in the first quarter, and also bought back $4 billion worth of shares. Focusing on returning excess cash to shareholders further boosts investor returns.
\n
3. Starbucks
\n
Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), the ubiquitous coffeehouse chain with nearly 33,000 locations worldwide, is arguably an even more important part of people's daily lives than the previous two companies. Americans (and the rest of the world) need their caffeine fix, and Starbucks is there to deliver.
\n
The business is back to registering growth in the U.S. following a huge slowdown last year. With 22.9 million active rewards members, Starbucks' top-notch loyalty program encourages repeat business. In the most recent quarter, a whopping 52% of sales at U.S. company-operated stores were from these rewards-program customers.
\n
You may think there isn't much growth left for this powerful brand that already has stores basically everywhere, but think again. During the investor day presentation last December, CFO Patrick Grismer claimed that by 2030, Starbucks plans to have 55,000 outlets in 100 markets globally. This 67% increase would make it the largest restaurant chain in the world. With revenue of $23.8 billion over the past 12 months, this ambitious goal should certainly boost that number significantly.
\n
Expect China, where comps soared 91% in the most recent quarter, to be a major growth driver going forward. Starbucks plans to open 600 net new stores in the country just in this fiscal year.
\n
Boring is beautiful
\n
All three of these companies are absolutely essential in their customers' lives. Without Costco, Home Depot, or Starbucks, people wouldn't be able to get the things they desperately need. Furthermore, they all benefit from strong competitive advantages that protect them from rival firms.
\n
In the future, we know with a high level of confidence that the products that these businesses sell will still be in high demand. This is the primary reason why they are three stocks you can keep forever.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks You Can Keep Forever
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks You Can Keep Forever\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-26 10:07 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
When looking for investments that have the potential to be held forever, it's beneficial not to only look at the latest technological craze or most disruptive businesses. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
\n
Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.
\n
As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.
\n
This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”
\n
As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know donotwant to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.
\n
What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.
\n
The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.
\n
This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.
\n
However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.
\n
Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential
\n
I’m talking about Nio, Inc.(NYSE:NIO). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.
\n
The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies likeNVIDIA Corporation(NASDAQ:NVDA), another one of myPlatinum Growth ClubModel Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.
\n
Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.
\n
With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.
\n
That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.
\n
Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”
\n
Interestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.\nInstead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.\nAs a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.\nThis “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. That’s not probably not likely any time soon. But this was a key turning point for the Fed — with clear implications for investors.
\n
Here are the five key takeaways.
\n
1. You should now favor quality
\n
The Fed policy shift confirms we are moving toward the middle of the economic cycle from the early stage where rip-roaring growth is the norm – which benefits more speculative stocks. This means it’s time to favor quality in the stock market, says Emily Roland, the co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management.
\n
What does “quality” mean? Companies with characteristics like better profit margins, strong balance sheets, good free cash flow and higher returns on equity, she says.
\n
You could set up a screen for all these qualities. But here’s a shortcut. “The sector that has highest overlap with quality is technology,” says Roland. “Technology can weather a more modest growth climate.”
\n
Roland declined to suggest individual names, but here are a few ideas. One is Asana ,which offers software that helps workers compartmentalize all the time vampires at work – like email and other communications — and better define and understand complex issues in the workplace like descriptions of who is responsible for what, the details of tasks on hand, and overarching missions and goals. The stock is up 123% from where I first highlighted it in my stock letter Brush Up on Stocks (link in my bio below) in November 2020, and 13% from where I just reiterated it on June 15.
\n
I suggested and bought this as a multiyear position, and it has more room to run from here, given the growth trends. Sales grew 61% in the first quarter, and company raised full-year guidance.
\n
Next, I recently reiterated Microsoft in my stock letter because of some insider buying and exposure to the cloud computing transition mega trend. You can see more on Microsoftin my overview here.
\n
2. Stay with reopening plays
\n
For Brian Barish, a portfolio manager at Cambiar Investors, the biggest takeaway on the Fed this week was its acknowledgement that extreme monetary accommodation needs to come to an end relatively soon. That’s good news.
\n
“There is a perception among a lot of people that the Fed has had a somewhat reckless posture,” says Barish. “It has had a policy consistent with another Great Financial Crisis type recession. In a very positive surprise, that is not what happened.”
\n
But while it’s due time to cut back stimulus, a more aggressive Fed also makes investors nervous because of the possibility for policy errors that create the next recession. Barish is not concerned about that just yet. So he’s sticking with reopening plays, like the casino company Penn National Gaming .Besides picking up business as people come out of hiding and visit casinos again, Penn National Gaming has solid exposure to online gaming through its ownership of Barstool Sports.
\n
“Online gaming is a big, long-term market. We are literally in the first inning,” he says. Only one of the big four states in the country — New York — has approved online gaming. Barish thinks California, Texas and Florida will also go along; the tax revenue is just too tempting.
\n
Barish is worth listening to because the Cambiar Opportunity Fund he helps manage beats its Morningstar large value category and Russell 1000 Value benchmark by 3.5 percentage points annualized over the past five years.
\n
Next, Barish likes Uber,,the ride-hailing software company. It has the advantage of size over competitor Lyft .New management has cut back on more speculative investment projects like flying taxis. “As we get to other side of the pandemic, Uber will be an indispensable service,” says Barish. You can seemy overview of Uber and Lyft here.
\n
Barish likes Sysco as a reopening play because it supplies food and equipment to restaurants. He also cites Bed Bath & Beyond in retail, a turnaround led by Anu Gupta who brings experience from Target. The home-goods chain is improving the business by reducing the number of products on offer, cutting back on coupons and introducing store brands.
\n
Sandy Villere, portfolio manager with Villere & Co. in New Orleans, also thinks it makes sense to stay with reopening plays — because the projected Fed rate hikes are in the distant future. “If rates are going to stay low until the end of 2023, that is still a long time to have low rates. I am not going to cash any time soon.”
\n
He likes the casino company Caesars Entertainment in part because it, too, has exposure to online gaming through its recent acquisition of William Hill. He also owns the bank First Hawaiian ,which should benefit from a lift to the Hawaiian economy as tourists come back.
\n
3. Be careful with meme stocks and cryptocurrencies
\n
The Fed sent a confusing mixed signal on Wednesday, points out Roland, the John Hancock Investment Management strategist. On the one hand, it clearly stated it thinks the recent inflation spike is transitory. This makes sense because a lot of the inflation spike is linked to supply-chain issues and shortages. The recent sharp rise in inflation is also a bit of a mirage since the comparison is to temporarily suppressed prices during the depths of the pandemic a year ago.
\n
But on the other hand, the Fed pulled forward the timeline for rate hikes. “If they believe inflation is transitory, why are they stepping up rate-hike expectations? One theory is the Fed is concerned about excesses in the market in meme stocks and cryptocurrencies,” says Roland.
\n
Excess liquidity created by the Fed and spending by politicians in Washington have clearly contributed to these pockets of speculative excess. The Fed may be interesting in curtailing the excesses contributing to huge spikes in bitcoin ,and stocks like GameStop and AMC Entertainment .
\n
4. Trim real estate, energy and materials stocks
\n
For Tim Murray a capital market strategist in the multi-asset division of T. Rowe Price, the big takeaway on the Fed last week is that it is getting more vigilant about inflation. “The Fed is no longer on autopilot,” he says.
\n
That’s bad news for areas of the market that benefit the most from inflation. This means companies with exposure to real assets that go up in value with inflation — like real estate, energy and materials. But Murray doesn’t think the Fed will be so vigilant that it stamps out economic growth. So, there’s life left in other cyclical stocks in sectors like industrials.
\n
5. That’s not probably not likely any time soon. But this was a key turning point for the Fed — with clear implications for investors.\nHere are the five key takeaways.\n1. You should now favor quality\nThe Fed policy shift confirms we are moving toward the middle of the economic cycle from the early stage where rip-roaring growth is the norm – which benefits more speculative stocks. This means it’s time to favor quality in the stock market, says Emily Roland, the co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management.\nWhat does “quality” mean? Companies with characteristics like better profit margins, strong balance sheets, good free cash flow and higher returns on equity, she says.\nYou could set up a screen for all these qualities. But here’s a shortcut. “The sector that has highest overlap with quality is technology,” says Roland. “Technology can weather a more modest growth climate.”\nRoland declined to suggest individual names, but here are a few ideas. One is Asana ,which offers software that helps workers compartmentalize all the time vampires at work – like email and other communications — and better define and understand complex issues in the workplace like descriptions of who is responsible for what, the details of tasks on hand, and overarching missions and goals. The stock is up 123% from where I first highlighted it in my stock letter Brush Up on Stocks (link in my bio below) in November 2020, and 13% from where I just reiterated it on June 15.\nI suggested and bought this as a multiyear position, and it has more room to run from here, given the growth trends. Sales grew 61% in the first quarter, and company raised full-year guidance.\nNext, I recently reiterated Microsoft in my stock letter because of some insider buying and exposure to the cloud computing transition mega trend. You can see more on Microsoftin my overview here.\n2. Stay with reopening plays\nFor Brian Barish, a portfolio manager at Cambiar Investors, the biggest takeaway on the Fed this week was its acknowledgement that extreme monetary accommodation needs to come to an end relatively soon. That’s good news.\n“There is a perception among a lot of people that the Fed has had a somewhat reckless posture,” says Barish. “It has had a policy consistent with another Great Financial Crisis type recession. In a very positive surprise, that is not what happened.”\nBut while it’s due time to cut back stimulus, a more aggressive Fed also makes investors nervous because of the possibility for policy errors that create the next recession. Barish is not concerned about that just yet. So he’s sticking with reopening plays, like the casino company Penn National Gaming .Besides picking up business as people come out of hiding and visit casinos again, Penn National Gaming has solid exposure to online gaming through its ownership of Barstool Sports.\n“Online gaming is a big, long-term market. We are literally in the first inning,” he says. Only one of the big four states in the country — New York — has approved online gaming. Barish thinks California, Texas and Florida will also go along; the tax revenue is just too tempting.\nBarish is worth listening to because the Cambiar Opportunity Fund he helps manage beats its Morningstar large value category and Russell 1000 Value benchmark by 3.5 percentage points annualized over the past five years.\nNext, Barish likes Uber,,the ride-hailing software company. It has the advantage of size over competitor Lyft .New management has cut back on more speculative investment projects like flying taxis. “As we get to other side of the pandemic, Uber will be an indispensable service,” says Barish. You can seemy overview of Uber and Lyft here.\nBarish likes Sysco as a reopening play because it supplies food and equipment to restaurants. He also cites Bed Bath & Beyond in retail, a turnaround led by Anu Gupta who brings experience from Target. The home-goods chain is improving the business by reducing the number of products on offer, cutting back on coupons and introducing store brands.\nSandy Villere, portfolio manager with Villere & Co. in New Orleans, also thinks it makes sense to stay with reopening plays — because the projected Fed rate hikes are in the distant future. “If rates are going to stay low until the end of 2023, that is still a long time to have low rates. I am not going to cash any time soon.”\nHe likes the casino company Caesars Entertainment in part because it, too, has exposure to online gaming through its recent acquisition of William Hill. He also owns the bank First Hawaiian ,which should benefit from a lift to the Hawaiian economy as tourists come back.\n3. Be careful with meme stocks and cryptocurrencies\nThe Fed sent a confusing mixed signal on Wednesday, points out Roland, the John Hancock Investment Management strategist. On the one hand, it clearly stated it thinks the recent inflation spike is transitory. This makes sense because a lot of the inflation spike is linked to supply-chain issues and shortages. The recent sharp rise in inflation is also a bit of a mirage since the comparison is to temporarily suppressed prices during the depths of the pandemic a year ago.\nBut on the other hand, the Fed pulled forward the timeline for rate hikes. “If they believe inflation is transitory, why are they stepping up rate-hike expectations? One theory is the Fed is concerned about excesses in the market in meme stocks and cryptocurrencies,” says Roland.\nExcess liquidity created by the Fed and spending by politicians in Washington have clearly contributed to these pockets of speculative excess. The Fed may be interesting in curtailing the excesses contributing to huge spikes in bitcoin ,and stocks like GameStop and AMC Entertainment .\n4. Trim real estate, energy and materials stocks\nFor Tim Murray a capital market strategist in the multi-asset division of T. Rowe Price, the big takeaway on the Fed last week is that it is getting more vigilant about inflation. “The Fed is no longer on autopilot,” he says.\nThat’s bad news for areas of the market that benefit the most from inflation. This means companies with exposure to real assets that go up in value with inflation — like real estate, energy and materials. But Murray doesn’t think the Fed will be so vigilant that it stamps out economic growth. So, there’s life left in other cyclical stocks in sectors like industrials.\n5. Don’t lose sleep worrying about a taper tantrum\nTapering is on the table now, and it is likely to start by the end of the year. In the past, this has created big selloffs in the S&P 500 ,Nasdaq Composite and the Dow Jones Industrial Average – known as taper tantrums. Will we get a repeat?\n“Probably not,” says Murray. “In 2013 investors were not expecting it, whereas this time the Fed has been preparing everyone for it.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":292,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165661157,"gmtCreate":1624128801479,"gmtModify":1703829170003,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586480947539515","idStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ","listText":"Great ","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/165661157","repostId":"1113942445","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":313,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165024162,"gmtCreate":1624082529256,"gmtModify":1703828512556,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586480947539515","idStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Read please like. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.
\n
However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.
\n
AMC Entertainment
\n
AMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.
\n
The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.
\n
But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.
\n
However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
Clover Health Investments
\n
Only a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.
\n
Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.
\n
Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
\n
Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.
\n
Sundial Growers
\n
At one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.
\n
Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.
\n
There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.
\n
Sundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.
\n
However, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. The company can't afford any additional dilution without having to resort to desperate measures to keep its listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Meme Stocks Wall Street Predicts Will Plunge More Than 20%\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-19 09:13 GMT+8 fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Meme stocks have been all the rage so far this year. six months into 2021, andenergy stocksare already on pace for their best year in more than three decades, leading some to believe the run may be due for a pullback.\nThe group pulled back on Thursday and Friday, but is still up more than 40% for the year. That’s almost double the 23% return for the real estate sector, which is the second-best sector. The S&P 500 is up nearly 12% this year.\nEnergy’s big start to the year means that even if the sector goes nowhere for the rest of 2021, it will still be the best year since 1990 by nearly 10%, according to Bay Crest Partners chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky.\nThe surge in energy stocks comes on the back of a recovery in oil prices, and as investors return to areas of the market that were left out of 2020′s rebound from the pandemic lows. The sector was also starting from a low base. In 2020, the group fell 37.3% for its worst performance since inception in 1989.\nKrinsky is among those saying the upside move is overdone, and his call is to sell crude oil and energy stocks broadly. From a technical standpoint, he noted that the $420 to $450 level acted as support — a floor — for the group during the last decade. But then during the Covid sell-off, the sector plunged below that key level — breaking below $200 — as the pandemic ground economies around the world to a halt.\n\nThe S&P Energy Sector has since recovered and traded as high as $420 on Thursday, inching closer to their prior support level, which now acts as resistance, or where an uptrend could be expected to reverse.\n“Oftentimes when you break a very important support like that, once you come back and test it as resistance, it’s difficult to exceed that — at least on the first try,” Krinsky noted.\nGauging performance from Jan. 1 might seem arbitrary, but he added that the sector’s outperformance is notable from virtually any date. Over the last eight months, the group has returned over 90%, which Krinsky says is more than two times the prior largest such gain over the last three decades.\n“Even on a rolling basis this is somewhat unprecedented,” he said. His bearish call on the sector also stems from other commodities breaking down, including lumber and copper. The latter is now breaking its uptrend, and Krinsky noted that copper was a leading indicator for the 2020 low, hitting a bottom one month ahead of West Texas Intermediate Crude futures.\nTOP-PERFORMING S&P 500 ENERGY STOCKS THIS YEAR\n\n\n\nTICKER\nCOMPANY\nPRICE\n%CHANGE\nYIELD\nPREVIOUS CLOSE\n\n\n\n\nMRO\nMarathon Oil Corp\n12.83\n-0.4655\n12.83\n12.89\n\n\nFANG\nDiamondback Energy Inc\n86.23\n-0.7596\n86.23\n86.89\n\n\nDVN\nDevon Energy Corp\n27.22\n-1.3411\n27.22\n27.59\n\n\nEOG\nEOG Resources Inc\n80.795\n-0.7798\n80.795\n81.43\n\n\n\nWithin the sector,Marathon Oilhas gained nearly 93% this year, making it the top-performing energy stock in the S&P 500.\nDiamondback Energyrose about 80% year to date, andDevon Energyclimbed more than 70%.OccidentalandEOG Resourcesare up more than 60%.\nAmid the outperformance the group remains unloved by Wall Street as factors – including environmental, social and corporate governance investing – prompt investors to shy away from the sector. Bank of America recently noted that the entire sector makes up just 2% of the average long-only portfolio, or less than half the allocation toward Facebook, which sits at 4.2%.\nEnergy still comprises a tiny portion of the S&P 500, but as the sector’s weighting grows, fund managers who shun the space could risk returns.\nMRB Partners on Thursday reiterated its overweight rating on the group, saying the recovery in demand for petroleum products, coupled with ongoing supply constraints, should push oil prices higher, leading to further returns for energy stocks.\n“Strengthening cash flows, leaner cost structures, and better capital discipline position the industry to moderately increase capital returns to shareholders,” strategists led by Salvatore Ruscitti wrote in a note to clients. “Relative performance will benefit from the reflationary backdrop and our expectations for a softer U.S. dollar.”\nWhen it comes to specific stocks, Gilman Hill Asset Management CEO Jenny Harrington owns names includingChevron,OneokandKinder Morgan. She noted on Thursday’s“Halftime Report”that it’s important to look at the whole picture. On the flip side, it’s well above where it traded in June of 2020 as the pandemic took hold.\n“They’re all trading at a fraction of the market multiple,” Harrington said of the energy stocks she owns. “They all have hefty dividend yields,” she added, arguing that strong earnings growth means “there’s a lot of room to go here.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":116,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":168331877,"gmtCreate":1623949588799,"gmtModify":1703824537965,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586480947539515","idStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Why the rush?","listText":"Why the rush?","text":"Why the rush?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/168331877","repostId":"2144690742","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2144690742","pubTimestamp":1623942044,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2144690742?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-17 23:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Column: The FDA's hasty approval of a new Alzheimer's drug is looking worse than ever","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2144690742","media":"LA Times","summary":"The FDA's decision on Aduhelm sets up a healthcare spending crisis. \nFollowing a year in which the F","content":"
The FDA's decision on Aduhelm sets up a healthcare spending crisis.
\n
Following a year in which the Food and Drug Administration meekly allowed President Trump to denigrate its integrity and undermine its judgment, it wasn't clear that the agency could fall even lower in public and professional esteem.
\n
It's clear now. The FDA's widely criticized decision on June 7 to approve the new Alzheimer's drug Aduhelm despite a nearly complete absence of evidence that it works is looking worse and worse with every day that passes.
\n
The latest data point underscoring the disastrous consequences of the FDA approval is related to the sky-high average price of $56,000 a year for the drug set by its U.S. manufacturer, Biogen.
\n
\n The limited evidence for the efficacy of Aduhelm raises the question of whether its large impact on health spending is justified.\n
\n
Altarum consultants
\n
According to a report by the nonprofit healthcare consulting organization Altarum, if the drug is prescribed for only 1 million patients a year — the low end of Biogen's marketing expectations — by the mid-2020s it will account for more than 1% of all national health spending. In 2025, for instance, when total spending is expected to reach abut $5.3 trillion, $57 billion of that will be spent on Aduhelm.
\n
The drug will increase all prescription drug spending by 8% and non-retail drug spending — that is, for drugs that have to be administered in hospitals or doctors' offices — by 25%. If the patient caseload doubles, so will those figures. And the FDA's approval would allow Aduhelm to be prescribed for any of the nation's Alzheimer's patients, who currently number more than 6 million.
\n
That will impose higher costs on 56 million Americans enrolled in Medicare Part B even if they don't suffer from Alzheimer's, the Kaiser Family Foundation observes. That's because Medicare is required by law to cover all prescription medicines approved by the FDA. Part B premiums rise with Medicare's expenses, so the higher spending on Adulhelm will hit all premium payers in the pocketbook.
\n
If 1 million Part B members take Aduhelm, the program's 80% share of the drug's cost would come to nearly $45 billion, or well more than the $37 billion Medicare paid for all Part B drugs in 2019.
\n
Many Medicare patients taking the drug will be hard-pressed to afford it, KFF notes. Their 20%, uncapped share of Part B drug and services costs would mean an average bill of $11,200 per year for the drug. That's almost 40% of the $29,650 median income of Medicare Part B members.
\n
It gets worse. Altarum's estimates don't encompass the ancillary costs that will be associated with taking Aduhelm. Because the clinical trials revealed that about 30% of patients receiving a high dose of the drug experienced brain swelling, patients will have to undergo regular MRI tests to watch out for this dangerous side effect. They'll have to pay their share of that, too.
\n
This isn't the first time that a new drug has threatened to break the national healthcare bank. The best comparison may be the hepatitis-C drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni, which were priced by their developer, Gilead, at $84,000 and nearly $100,000 per year, respectively.
\n
Those drugs drove annual growth in retail prescription spending from 2.2% in 2013 to 13.5% in 2014, after their introduction, Altarum says.
\n
But there are differences. Sovaldi and Harvoni cured more than 90% of hepatitis-C patients after a single round of treatment, so the spending on any patient lasted less than a year; measuring their cost against the cost of treating hepatitis-C patients indefinitely made the cost-benefit balance obvious. Indeed, by 2016, when most patients had been treated, the prescription growth rate fell back to 1.7%,
\n
But Aduhelm is neither a cure nor a one-time treatment. \"Aduhelm is to be administered repeatedly throughout the patient’s lifetime or until the patient and his or her physician elect to discontinue treatment,\" Altarum explains. \"The resultant growth in spending will therefore be sustained for the foreseeable future.\"
\n
The organization's bottom line: \"The limited evidence for the efficacy of Aduhelm raises the question of whether its large impact on health spending is justified.\"
\n
As bad as the FDA's decision is looking today, it didn't start out as a widely praised action, either. As we reported last week, one member of the FDA scientific advisory committee that had examined results from the drug's clinical trials pronounced the action \"probably the worst drug approval decision in recent U.S. history” in a letter resigning from the committee.
\n
The 11-member committee had advised almost unanimously against the approval. Two other members also resigned after the FDA ignored the panel's recommendation.
\n
Alzheimer's specialists are concerned about the FDA decision for more than financial reasons. The FDA's widely criticized decision on June 7 to approve the new Alzheimer's drug Aduhelm despite a nearly complete absence of evidence that it works is looking worse and worse with every day that passes.\nThe latest data point underscoring the disastrous consequences of the FDA approval is related to the sky-high average price of $56,000 a year for the drug set by its U.S. manufacturer, Biogen.\n\n The limited evidence for the efficacy of Aduhelm raises the question of whether its large impact on health spending is justified.\n\nAltarum consultants\nAccording to a report by the nonprofit healthcare consulting organization Altarum, if the drug is prescribed for only 1 million patients a year — the low end of Biogen's marketing expectations — by the mid-2020s it will account for more than 1% of all national health spending. In 2025, for instance, when total spending is expected to reach abut $5.3 trillion, $57 billion of that will be spent on Aduhelm.\nThe drug will increase all prescription drug spending by 8% and non-retail drug spending — that is, for drugs that have to be administered in hospitals or doctors' offices — by 25%. If the patient caseload doubles, so will those figures. And the FDA's approval would allow Aduhelm to be prescribed for any of the nation's Alzheimer's patients, who currently number more than 6 million.\nThat will impose higher costs on 56 million Americans enrolled in Medicare Part B even if they don't suffer from Alzheimer's, the Kaiser Family Foundation observes. That's because Medicare is required by law to cover all prescription medicines approved by the FDA. Part B premiums rise with Medicare's expenses, so the higher spending on Adulhelm will hit all premium payers in the pocketbook.\nIf 1 million Part B members take Aduhelm, the program's 80% share of the drug's cost would come to nearly $45 billion, or well more than the $37 billion Medicare paid for all Part B drugs in 2019.\nMany Medicare patients taking the drug will be hard-pressed to afford it, KFF notes. Their 20%, uncapped share of Part B drug and services costs would mean an average bill of $11,200 per year for the drug. That's almost 40% of the $29,650 median income of Medicare Part B members.\nIt gets worse. They'll have to pay their share of that, too.\nThis isn't the first time that a new drug has threatened to break the national healthcare bank. The best comparison may be the hepatitis-C drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni, which were priced by their developer, Gilead, at $84,000 and nearly $100,000 per year, respectively.\nThose drugs drove annual growth in retail prescription spending from 2.2% in 2013 to 13.5% in 2014, after their introduction, Altarum says.\nBut there are differences. Sovaldi and Harvoni cured more than 90% of hepatitis-C patients after a single round of treatment, so the spending on any patient lasted less than a year; measuring their cost against the cost of treating hepatitis-C patients indefinitely made the cost-benefit balance obvious. Indeed, by 2016, when most patients had been treated, the prescription growth rate fell back to 1.7%,\nBut Aduhelm is neither a cure nor a one-time treatment. \"Aduhelm is to be administered repeatedly throughout the patient’s lifetime or until the patient and his or her physician elect to discontinue treatment,\" Altarum explains. \"The resultant growth in spending will therefore be sustained for the foreseeable future.\"\nThe organization's bottom line: \"The limited evidence for the efficacy of Aduhelm raises the question of whether its large impact on health spending is justified.\"\nAs bad as the FDA's decision is looking today, it didn't start out as a widely praised action, either. As we reported last week, one member of the FDA scientific advisory committee that had examined results from the drug's clinical trials pronounced the action \"probably the worst drug approval decision in recent U.S. history” in a letter resigning from the committee.\nThe 11-member committee had advised almost unanimously against the approval. Two other members also resigned after the FDA ignored the panel's recommendation.\nAlzheimer's specialists are concerned about the FDA decision for more than financial reasons. They fear that the existence of a drug with the FDA's imprimatur, as questionable as it is, will interfere with efforts to develop and test other treatments that may turn out to be more promising.\nPatients may be reluctant to enroll in trials of alternative drugs instead of taking Aduhelm, for example. And researchers trying to recruit trial subjects will have to reject anyone who has been treated with Aduhelm, because it will be difficult, if not impossible, to determine whether a given result is due to Aduhelm or the new drug.\nThe longest-lasting effect, however, may be on the FDA's reputation for imposing rigorous safety and efficacy standards. The pharmaceutical industry has long groused about the agency's painstaking approval process, even though it has given the American drug market an image as the safest in the world.\nThe drugmakers have consistently pushed for faster approvals and the acceptance of ever more sketchy evidence from clinical trials.\nAaron S. Kesselheim, the Harvard professor who delivered that damning judgment about the FDA approval before resigning from its advisory panel, has called for the creation of a new agency to oversee drug approvals, presumably inoculated from pressure from Big Pharma.\nThe FDA's approval of a high-priced, apparently low-value drug that will yield billions of dollars in profits for its manufacturer may even spur Congress finally to take America's drug-price crisis in hand and find a solution. That could be the silver lining around the cloud of the FDA's action.\nBut it will be a shame that an agency that reigned as a bulwark against unsafe and ineffective drugs since its founding in 1906 had to fall so low to achieve that goal.\nThis story originally appeared in Los Angeles Times.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":217,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9036869956,"gmtCreate":1647044901613,"gmtModify":1676534190241,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586480947539515","authorIdStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good for small investor ","listText":"Good for small investor ","text":"Good for small investor","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9036869956","repostId":"1152050246","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1152050246","pubTimestamp":1647000288,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1152050246?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-11 20:04","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Amazon's 20-1 Stock Split Is Absolutely Bullish For Long-Term Investors","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1152050246","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"SummaryAmazon just announced a 20-1 stock split and authorized $10 billion worth of share buybacks.A","content":"

Summary

Amazon just announced a 20-1 stock split and authorized $10 billion worth of share buybacks.

As a shareholder of Amazon, I see this as bullish news and I am excited to see shares at a level that is enticing for retail investors.

Amazon operates in two segments that are projected to experience exceptional growth throughout the decade which could lead to Amazon becoming the first trillion-dollar company.

Daria Nipot/iStock Editorial via Getty Images

It feels like decades since Amazon's (AMZN) stock split, and that's because it has. From 6/1/98 to 9/1/99, AMZN's shares split three times, with a 2-1 split on 9/1/99 being the last time AMZN's stock split.AMZNjust announced very bullish news, in my opinion, that current and future shareholders should be excited about. AMZN has announced a 20-1 stock split subject to shareholder approval on May 25thand replacing a previous share buyback program with a $10 billion buyback authorization. Many thought AMZN would have announced a split during the 2021 Q4 earnings call, especially since Alphabet(NASDAQ:GOOG)(GOOGL) announced that they would be splitting their stock. It's never too late, and shareholders just received a double dose of bullish news.

A stock split doesn't make the company more valuable but it is bullish

AMZNhas 508.8 million shares outstanding as of their last filing date. AMZN doesn't increase the value of its company by splitting their stock. Today shares closed at $2,785.58, placing their market cap at $1.42 trillion. If AMZN's 20-1 split was to occur tonight, there would be 10.18 billion shares outstanding trading for $139.8 per share, representing a $1.42 trillion market cap. This also isn't dilution as your shares would still represent the same percentage of equity in AMZN after the 20-1 split as they did prior to the split.

AMZN just announced the 20-1 split. AMZN's annual meeting will be held on May 25th, 2021, where the 20-1 split will be voted on. If the shareholder base votes yes and this motion passes, then shareholders of record at the close on May 27thwill be provided with 19 additional shares. If you own 1 share of AMZN, you will now have 20 shares, and if you own 10 shares, you will now have 200 shares. This will occur on or around June 3rd,and split-adjusted trading is expected to occur on June 6th.

There are different viewpoints on stock splits. Some people refer to Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B)as an example of a stock that has never split and is now trading at $488,245 per share. The argument is that the market cap doesn't change during a stock split, and if a company is going to increase in price, it will just continue to increase. I can't argue this point because it's correct. If I have a large pizza with 8 slices and cut them into halves, I now have 16 slices, but it's the amount of pizza doesn't change.

marketbusinessnews.com

I love stock splits and wish companies would split their shares more frequently. If you look back at the 1990's, it was the golden era of stock splits.AMZNsplit its shares 3 times,Intel Corp(INTC) split its shares 4 times in the 90s and once again in 2000,Cisco Systems(CSCO) split their shares 5 times in the 90s and again in 2000, andMicrosoft(MSFT) split their shares 4 times in the 90s.

There are several reasons why stock splits are welcomed by shareholders and looked at favorably even though the initial value of the companies doesn't change. Normally when a board of directors declares a stock split, it's taken as a vote of confidence that its companies share value will continue to increase, which is a bullish indication. AMZN's share price has reached a level where many investors can't buy shares as $3,000 for a single share is out of many investor's price ranges. Too many people look at the share price and not at percentages. A 50% gain is a 50% gain it doesn't matter if a stock is $30 and goes to $45 or $3,000 and it goes to $4,500. More people would be inclined to purchase 100 shares of a $30 stock because they can acquire more shares instead of buying 1 share of a $3,000 stock. By AMZN splitting its shares 20-1 it makes its shares attractive to retail investors and new investors. With a $140 price tag, volume will increase, which will also increase AMZN's liquidity in the market as more shares are being traded. Stock splits can also indicate a positive signal to rating agencies which could positively impact the share price.

I believe companies should split their shares, and Apple(NASDAQ:AAPL)is a perfect example. By AAPL continuously splitting its shares, it's made the stock affordable, and buying multiple shares of AAPL instead of 1 share of AMZN may have been more attractive to investors. I own shares in both companies, but from a value proposition, I like that AAPL continues to split its shares and, since 2014, has done a 7-1 split and a 4-1 split. By keeping the share price affordable, investors are able to gain single stock exposure to their favorite companies instead of only owning them through an index or total market fund. I also believe that when stocks are affordable, they will see increased volumes, which will ultimately help price appreciation in the future. TodayAMZNhad 4.13 million shares traded while AAPL had 91.45 million shares traded. I think the split will have long-term positive effects on AMZN's share price, and I am in favor of making shares affordable for the retail investor.

Amazon replacing its current buyback program with a larger buyback authorization is bullish for shareholders

As much as I love my dividends, buybacks are the best way for companies to reward their shareholders. In 2016 AMZN put a $5 billion share buyback program in place and had purchased $2.12 billion of shares from this allotment. The board has now authorized a repurchase of up to $10 billion and will elect to purchase shares opportunistically. Buybacks are great for two reasons. First, they increase your equity position, and second, they increase how much revenue and earnings per share your shares represent.

If you own 10 shares of a company that has 100 shares, you're a 10% owner. If the company buys back 20 shares, there are now 80 shares outstanding. You're 10 shares now represent 12.5% of the equity in the company. Buybacks are extremely bullish because they make your shares more valuable as you own more equity in the company and your shares carry more weight when it comes to voting. From a financial metrics perspective, if the company was generating $500 in sales and $200 in earnings, your shares prior to the buyback would have accounted for $5 of revenue per share and $2 of earnings per share. After the buyback, since there are 80 shares instead of 100, each share would account for $6.25 in revenue per share and $2.50 in earnings per share. Buybacks can help companies manufacture earnings to a degree because, in addition to growing their corporate earnings organically, buybacks can add an additional boost and help widen the margin of an earnings beat.

Buybacks are also the most significant bullish indicator in my opinion, because it's a sign that the company believes shares are undervalued and represent a good investment. Corporations have several options when they look at allocating free cash flow (FCF). FCF can be used to pay down debt, make acquisitions, pay a dividend, or buy back shares. This is a signal that AMZN feels this $10 billion would be better invested in buying back shares than paying down its debt, allocating it toward an acquisition, or making a strategic investment. AMZN's management clearly sees value in its shares.

Amazon

Regardless of Amazon's stock split and buyback I still believe it's a great investment as Amazon will probably be the first trillion-dollar revenue company

AMZN operates in two of the quickest growing sectors, Cloud infrastructure services, and e-Commerce. While these sectors aren't new, their future growth has a long runway ahead of them. For the first time worldwide, cloud infrastructure services expendituresexceeded $50 billionin a single quarter in Q4 of 2021. The new spending record in Q4 2021 reached $53.5 billion, growing YoY by $13.6 billion (34%). In 2021, the total cloud infrastructure services spend increased by $49.7 billion to $191.7 billion globally. While Q4 set records and grew 34% YoY, cloud infrastructure services expenditures grew 35% YoY. The globalcloud computing marketis expected to reach USD 1,554.94 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 15.7%, according to a new study conducted by Grand View Research, Inc. In Q4 2021, AMZN's AWS captured 33% of the global cloud infrastructure spend.

Canalys

Over the past 4 fiscal years, AWS has grown by 256.3%, adding $44.74 billion in revenue to this business segment. In 2018 AWS generated an additional $8.24 billion in revenue and grew at a 47.2% YoY rate. AWS is still growing at large multiples three years later as AMZN delivered $23.39 billion in additional revenue at a 37.01% growth rate YoY. AWS has the potential to become a $100 billion business segment in 2024 if it just grows at a 20% YoY growth rate. Over the next 8 years, the worldwide cloud infrastructure spend is expected to increase to $1.55 trillion. AMZN currently has 33% of this market. If AMZN can maintain 20% of the market during its expansion AWS would be a $310.99 billion revenue segment in 2030. If AWS maintains its 33% market penetration, it will become a $513.13 billion revenue segment which would be $43.31 billion more revenue than the entire company generated in 2021.

In 2022,e-commerceis expected to break the 20% barrier of total retail sales for the first time. In 2024, e-commerce is expected to only generate 22.5% of total retail sales. Over the next 4 years, e-commerce is expected to grow by $2.35 trillion or 49.67%. In 2022, e-commerce is projected to grow by $604 billion or 12.23%, then by $609 billion in 2023 (10.99%), $616 billion (10.1%) in 2024 and by another $624 billion (9.22%) in 2025. It's not just e-commerce that will grow. Retail sales, in general, will grow from $26.03 trillion to $31.27 trillion over the next 4 years as well. In 2021AMZN'sNorth American sales revenue increased by $43.53 billion YoY as it generated $279.83 billion. Internationally, AMZN's revenue grew $23.39 billion as it generated $127.79 billion.

Amazon

insiderintelligence.com

By 2025 e-commerce sales are expected to increase by $2.35 trillion or 49.67%. AMZN continues to see increased growth YoY, and this isn't projected to stop. If AMZN can grab 10% of the growth, it would be an additional $235 billion of annual revenue. The scary part is that e-commerce isn't expected to break 1/4thof total retail sales in 2025, which leaves much organic growth well into the future.

Conclusion

AMZN dominates two of the fastest-growing sectors and is projected to continue its future growth. I see a path to AMZN becoming the first trillion-dollar revenue company. The news about AMZN's share split of 20-1 and $10 billion buyback makes me even more bullish than I was after Q4 2021 earnings. Splitting the shares will make shares more attractive for retail investors, increase volumes and add liquidity to shares of AMZN. It's never too late, and shareholders just received a double dose of bullish news.A stock split doesn't make the company more valuable but it is bullishAMZNhas 508.8 million shares outstanding as of their last filing date. This also isn't dilution as your shares would still represent the same percentage of equity in AMZN after the 20-1 split as they did prior to the split.AMZN just announced the 20-1 split. This will occur on or around June 3rd,and split-adjusted trading is expected to occur on June 6th.There are different viewpoints on stock splits. If I have a large pizza with 8 slices and cut them into halves, I now have 16 slices, but it's the amount of pizza doesn't change.marketbusinessnews.comI love stock splits and wish companies would split their shares more frequently. If you look back at the 1990's, it was the golden era of stock splits.AMZNsplit its shares 3 times,Intel Corp(INTC) split its shares 4 times in the 90s and once again in 2000,Cisco Systems(CSCO) split their shares 5 times in the 90s and again in 2000, andMicrosoft(MSFT) split their shares 4 times in the 90s.There are several reasons why stock splits are welcomed by shareholders and looked at favorably even though the initial value of the companies doesn't change. Stock splits can also indicate a positive signal to rating agencies which could positively impact the share price.I believe companies should split their shares, and Apple(NASDAQ:AAPL)is a perfect example. I think the split will have long-term positive effects on AMZN's share price, and I am in favor of making shares affordable for the retail investor.Amazon replacing its current buyback program with a larger buyback authorization is bullish for shareholdersAs much as I love my dividends, buybacks are the best way for companies to reward their shareholders. Buybacks can help companies manufacture earnings to a degree because, in addition to growing their corporate earnings organically, buybacks can add an additional boost and help widen the margin of an earnings beat.Buybacks are also the most significant bullish indicator in my opinion, because it's a sign that the company believes shares are undervalued and represent a good investment. AMZN's management clearly sees value in its shares.AmazonRegardless of Amazon's stock split and buyback I still believe it's a great investment as Amazon will probably be the first trillion-dollar revenue companyAMZN operates in two of the quickest growing sectors, Cloud infrastructure services, and e-Commerce. In Q4 2021, AMZN's AWS captured 33% of the global cloud infrastructure spend.CanalysOver the past 4 fiscal years, AWS has grown by 256.3%, adding $44.74 billion in revenue to this business segment. If AWS maintains its 33% market penetration, it will become a $513.13 billion revenue segment which would be $43.31 billion more revenue than the entire company generated in 2021.In 2022,e-commerceis expected to break the 20% barrier of total retail sales for the first time. Internationally, AMZN's revenue grew $23.39 billion as it generated $127.79 billion.Amazoninsiderintelligence.comBy 2025 e-commerce sales are expected to increase by $2.35 trillion or 49.67%. AMZN continues to see increased growth YoY, and this isn't projected to stop. If AMZN can grab 10% of the growth, it would be an additional $235 billion of annual revenue. The scary part is that e-commerce isn't expected to break 1/4thof total retail sales in 2025, which leaves much organic growth well into the future.ConclusionAMZN dominates two of the fastest-growing sectors and is projected to continue its future growth. The buyback signals bullishness from management as they see value in the current levels at which AMZN trades. As a shareholder, I am excited about the news and believe that this may be the firepower needed to have AMZN breakout sometime in 2022 out of its consolidating phase.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":309,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":121593013,"gmtCreate":1624470452232,"gmtModify":1703837795659,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586480947539515","authorIdStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Was looking for plaid plus. Now although the three companies posted mixed delivery figures for the month of May, with Nio and Li Auto both posting declines in their deliveries versus April, and Xpeng growing sales marginally, the sales numbers likely weren’t as bad as expected, considering the semiconductor shortage that has roiled the auto industry. In contrast, major auto players such as GM and Ford had to temporarily idle or scale back production at several plants.
\n
The outlook provided by the three companies was also stronger than expected, giving investors confidence that the worst of the semiconductor shortage is likely over. Li Auto has guided to 14,500 to 15,500 deliveries for the second quarter, a sequential increase of 22% on the upper end. The company says that it is optimistic that actual numbers will exceed guidance, given that it is seeing stronger than expected orders for the upgraded version of its Li One SUV. Nio also reiterated its Q2 2021 delivery guidance of 21,000 to 22,000 vehicles, implying that it could deliver a record 8,200 vehicles in June.
\n
Now are the stocks a buy at current levels? While the growth outlook is certainly strong, the stocks don’t exactly appear cheap at current valuations. Nio trades at 14x forward revenue, while Li Auto trades at 9x, and Xpeng trades at about 16x. Near-term threats to EV valuations include higher inflation and recent commentary by the U.S. Federal Reserve, which is now apparently looking at two interest rate hikes in 2023, instead of 2024. This could put pressure on high-multiple, high-growth stocks, including EV names. In our analysis Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare? we compare the financial performance and valuations of the major U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players.
\n
[6/2/2021] Is The Worst Of The Semiconductor Crunch Over For Chinese EVs?
\n
Chinese electric vehicle majorsNio (NYSE: NIO)and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) provided mixed delivery figures for the month of May, as they continued to be impacted by the current shortage of semiconductors. While Nio delivered a total of 6,711 vehicles in May, down 5.5% from April, Xpeng was able to grow deliveries by about 10% over the last month to 5,686 units, although the number is below peak monthly sales of 6,015 vehicles witnessed in January. Although both companies reported robust year-over-year growth numbers (2x to 6x), the sequential figures are more closely tracked for fast-growing companies.
\n
However, things are probably going to get better from here. Nio, for instance, reiterated its Q2 2021 delivery guidance of 21,000 to 22,000 vehicles, implying that it could deliver as many as 8,200 vehicles in June, a monthly record. This is likely an indicator that the global automotive semiconductor shortage is easing off, and also a sign that Nio is holding its own in the Chinese EV market, despite mounting competition. Nio stock rallied by almost 10% in Tuesday’s trading, while Xpeng’s stock was up by about 8% following the report.
\n
Despite the recent rally, the stocks might still be worth considering at current levels. Nio stock remains down by about 20% year-to-date while Xpeng is down by about 22%. See our analysis on Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare?for an overview of the financial and valuation metrics of the three U.S. listed Chinese EV players.
\n
[5/21/2021] How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare?
\n
U.S. listed Chinese EV players Nio (NYSE: NIO), Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) have underperformed this year, with their stocks down by roughly 30% each, since early January. So how do these stocks compare post the correction? While Nio and Xpeng remain pricier compared to Li Auto, they probably justify their higher valuation for a couple of reasons. Here is a bit more about these companies.
\n
Our analysis Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare? compares the financial performance and valuation of the major U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players.
\n
Nio remains the most richly valued of the three companies, trading at about 10.5x forward revenue. Revenues are likely to grow by over 110% this year, per consensus estimates. Longer-term growth is also likely to remain strong, given the company’s wide product portfolio (it already has three models on the market), its unique innovations such as battery swapping, its global expansion plans, and investments into autonomous driving. Nio brand also has a lot more buzz, with the company viewed as the most direct rival to Tesla in China. Gross margins stood at 19.5% in Q1 2021, up from a negative 12% a year ago.
\n
Xpeng trades at about 10x projected 2021 revenues. Sales growth is projected to be the strongest among the three companies, rising by over 150% this year, per consensus estimates. Besides its higher projected growth, investors have been assigning a premium to the company due to its progress in the autonomous driving space. Xpeng currently sells the G3 SUV and the P7 sedan and its new P5 compact sedan is likely to hit the roads later this year. Although Xpeng’s gross margins have improved, rising to about 11% over Q1, versus negative levels a year ago, they are still below Nio’s margins.
\n
Li Auto trades at just 6x projected 2021 revenues, the lowest of the three companies. Revenues are likely to roughly double this year, with gross margins standing at 17.5% as of Q4 2020 (the company has yet to report Q1 results). The lower valuation is likely due to the company’s focus on a single product - the Li Xiang ONE, an electric SUV that also has a small gasoline engine and also due to the fact that Li Auto is behind rivals in terms of autonomous driving tech.
\n
[10/30/2020] How Do Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto Compare
\n
The Chinese electric vehicle space is booming, with China-based manufacturers accounting for over 50% of global EV deliveries. Demand for EVs in China is likely to remain robust as the Chinese government wants about 25% of all new cars sold in the country to be electric by 2025, up from roughly 5% at present.[1]While Tesla is a leader in the Chinese luxury EV market driven by production at its new Shanghai facility, Nio, Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) - three relatively young U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players, have also been gaining traction. In our analysisNio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare?we compare the financial performance and valuation of the major U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players. Parts of the analysis are summarized below.
\n
Overview Of Nio, Li Auto & Xpeng’s Business
\n
Nio, which was founded in 2014, currently offers three premium electric SUVs, ES8, ES6, and EC6, which are priced starting at about $50k. The company is working on developing self-driving technology and also offers other unique innovations such as Battery as a Service (BaaS) - which allows customers to subscribe for car batteries, rather than paying for them upfront. While the company has scaled up production, it hasn’t come without challenges, as it recalled about 5,000 vehicles last year after reports of multiple fires.
\n
Li Auto sells Extended-Range Electric Vehicles, which are essentially EVs that also have a small gasoline engine that can generate additional electric power for the battery. This reduces the need for EV-charging infrastructure, which is currently limited in China. The company’s hybrid strategy appears to be paying off - with its Li ONE SUV, which is priced at about $46,000 - ranking as the top-selling SUV in the new energy vehicle segment in China in September 2020. The new energy segment includes fuel cell, electric, and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
\n
Xpeng produces and sells premium electric vehicles including the G3 SUV and the P7 four-door sedan, which are roughly positioned as rivals to Tesla’s Model Y SUV and Model 3 sedan, although they are more affordable, with the basic version of the G3 starting at about $22,000 post subsidies. The G3 SUV was among the top 3 Electric SUVs in terms of sales in China in 2019. While the company began production in late 2018, initially via a deal with an established automaker, it has started production at its own factory in the Guangdong province.
\n
How Have The Deliveries, Revenues & Margins Trended
\n
Nio delivered about 21k vehicles in 2019, up from about 11k vehicles in 2018. This compares to Xpeng which delivered about 13k vehicles in 2019 and Li Auto which delivered about 1k vehicles, considering that it began production only late last year. While Nio’s deliveries this year could approach about 40k units, Li Auto and Xpeng are likely to deliver around 25k vehicles with Li Auto seeing the highest growth. Over 2019, Nio’s Revenues stood at $1.1 billion, compared to about $40 million for Li Auto and $330 million for Xpeng. Nio’s Revenues are likely to grow 95% this year, while Xpeng’s Revenues are likely to grow by about 120%. All three companies remain deeply lossmaking as costs related to R&D and SG&A remain high relative to Revenues. Nio’s Net Margins stood at -195% in 2019, Li Auto’s margins stood at about -860% while Xpeng’s margins stood at -160%. However, margins are likely to improve sharply in 2020, as volumes pick up.
\n
Valuation
\n
Nio’s Market Cap stood at about $37 billion as of October 28, 2020, with its stock price rising by about 7x year-to-date due to surging investor interest in EV stocks. Li Auto and Xpeng, which were both listed in the U.S. around August as they looked to capitalize on surging valuations, have a market cap of about $15 billion and $14 billion, respectively. On a relative basis, Nio trades at about 15x projected 2020 Revenues, Li Auto trades at about 12x, while Xpeng trades at about 20x.
\n
While valuations are certainly high, investors are likely betting that these companies will continue to grow in the domestic market, while eventually playing a larger role in the global EV space leveraging China’s relatively low-cost manufacturing, and the country’s ecosystem of battery and auto parts suppliers. Of the three companies, Nio might be the safer bet, considering its slightly longer track record, higher Revenues, and investments in technology such as battery swaps and self-driving. Li Auto also looks attractive considering its rapid growth - driven by the uptake of its hybrid powertrains - and relatively attractive valuation of about 12x 2020 Revenues.
\n
Electric vehicles are the future of transportation, but picking the right EV stocks can be tricky. Investing inElectric Vehicle Component Supplier Stockscan be a good alternative to play the growth in the EV market.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
EV stocks fell in morning trading.
While the company began production in late 2018, initially via a deal with an established automaker, it has started production at its own factory in the Guangdong province.\nHow Have The Deliveries, Revenues & Margins Trended\nNio delivered about 21k vehicles in 2019, up from about 11k vehicles in 2018. However, margins are likely to improve sharply in 2020, as volumes pick up.\nValuation\nNio’s Market Cap stood at about $37 billion as of October 28, 2020, with its stock price rising by about 7x year-to-date due to surging investor interest in EV stocks. Li Auto and Xpeng, which were both listed in the U.S. around August as they looked to capitalize on surging valuations, have a market cap of about $15 billion and $14 billion, respectively. On a relative basis, Nio trades at about 15x projected 2020 Revenues, Li Auto trades at about 12x, while Xpeng trades at about 20x.\nWhile valuations are certainly high, investors are likely betting that these companies will continue to grow in the domestic market, while eventually playing a larger role in the global EV space leveraging China’s relatively low-cost manufacturing, and the country’s ecosystem of battery and auto parts suppliers. Of the three companies, Nio might be the safer bet, considering its slightly longer track record, higher Revenues, and investments in technology such as battery swaps and self-driving. Li Auto also looks attractive considering its rapid growth - driven by the uptake of its hybrid powertrains - and relatively attractive valuation of about 12x 2020 Revenues.\nElectric vehicles are the future of transportation, but picking the right EV stocks can be tricky. Investing inElectric Vehicle Component Supplier Stockscan be a good alternative to play the growth in the EV market.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":326,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167730728,"gmtCreate":1624284217864,"gmtModify":1703832452122,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586480947539515","authorIdStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Apple(AAPL)$believing in $Apple(AAPL)$","listText":"$Apple(AAPL)$believing in $Apple(AAPL)$","text":"$Apple(AAPL)$believing in $Apple(AAPL)$","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e21d249c2faccb263209c592f61c1aa6","width":"1284","height":"2457"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/167730728","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":275,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":167108466,"gmtCreate":1624250356255,"gmtModify":1703831586566,"author":{"id":"3586480947539515","authorId":"3586480947539515","name":"Atcb","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/2ed44e4b5d277de09a787ef1f84de5af","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3586480947539515","authorIdStr":"3586480947539515"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice !
